P35-Neo2 posts only after CMOS reset

Hello everyone,
I've searched the forums and found the 'solution' mentioned above in other related threads. However, none of these seem to solve my problem and resetting the CMOS everytime is certainly not nice. I hope you can share your knowledge and give me some hints on what might be wrong.
Like for all the others the board does not post, but hangs in the "CPU damaged or not installed properly" cycle. Powering it off, resetting the CMOS makes it boot and I can access the Bios without hassle. Tried failsafe and optimized settings, but if the system is rebooted it hangs again until I reset the CMOS.
I can use this trick to get into the Windows 7 installer (university MSDN in case you wonder) but it will hang at the blue wallpaper. I will try to get my hands on an XP or Vista medium and see if that one works. The PC is completely new so I cannot tell if it ever worked. The components are as follows:
Quote
Memory: A-DATA, 2x2 GB, DDR2, 800 MHz, PC2-6400, CL6 (AD2U800B2G6-2). According to specs sheet they need 1.8 V
CPU: Intel Pentium Dual Core E5200, 2.5 GHZ (800 MHz), LGA775 Socket, L2: 2MB, OEM (EU80571PG0602M) (BIOS says 6x333 = 2 GHz, but correctly identifies the CPU as "Intel Pentium… @ 2.5 GHz". Might this be the problem?)
PSU: Sharkoon SHA 450-8P, ATX 12V 2.0, 450 watts (4044951005871)
hard disk: Seagate Maxtor DiamondMax 23, SATA 2, 3.5" (STM3250318AS)
graphics card: used Nvidia e-Geforce EVGA 7600 GT PCI-E, (it works fine elsewhere)
board: MSI P35 Neo2 GR, ATX, iP35, LGA775 Socket, UDMA133, eSATA, GBit Ethernet, HD Audio (7345-030R). BIOS is at 1.10 (2008-10-11)
Case: Sharkoon Rebel 9 Economy Edition (with 2x2 front USB plugged into the mainboard's JUSB1 and JUSB2 ports, plus Front Audio plugged into the audio port.). I haven't checked these cables after building the computer, but I verified I plugged in POWER/RESET correctly. For some reason the reset button does not seem to have any function. Might this be related to the "real" problem?
I did not flash the BIOS myself. The board was sold as "opened" from the retailer, but I can still return it. I thought I'd first ask here though, as it seems to work fine except for the mentioned issue.
The board is connected using the 24-pin default ATX power connector (to be specific it's 20+4 because of the PSU) plus the two 12 V connectors plugged into POWER1. I did not plug in the JPOWER1 because the graphics card is the only PCI-E consumer and the manual doesn't state that it requires additional power (it doesn't feature an additional connector either). The mainboard's manual isn't very clear on this, do I need to connect JPOWER1 with an "old peripheral connector" even if only the "usual power" PCI-E offers is required?
The boards FSB jumpers are set to the bottom most position, i.e. 333 MHz.
This is all what I can think of right now. Please tell me if I forgot something or if I should try something. Thanks for you time and help!
Greetings
xonnor

Thank you for your quick reply.
I'm not sure about the jumpers. Unlike printed in the manual, the three pins are not seperated in any way so I'm not sure if they're in the "bottom" or "top" position. Would you kindly have a look at the attached picture and tell me if they're set to 333 MHz or 200 MHz? The jumpers are located just below where the flash is most visible. If the bottom position in the manual is the bottom position like in the photo, then they are indeed set to 333 MHz.
PSU: I'm not sure about what information I need to provide. If I read the sticker correctly, each 12 V rail provides up to 18 A. However, the 2nd connector just "spawns" (wording?) from the 1st one. Please have a look at the photos, these are probably more accurate than me.
Unfortunately I cannot provide CPU-Z screenshots as I haven't yet managed to install or boot Windows.
I hope that provides all information necessary without being too inconvenient for you!

  • Ram slots not working after CMOS reset

Im using MSI K9N Neo V2 mb, and it was doing fine until i reseted CMOS. Now 3 out of 4 ram slots are not recognized by BIOS nor Windows. Im sure that ram memory is ok, cause ive checked all of it by replacing it between ram slots, and they're only working in slot nr 4.
I know that the MB is old, but everything was working fine, and suddenly went wrong after CMOS reset
    Things i did to fix:
    Updated BIOS
    Msconfig memory uncheck box
    Cleared CMOS with jumper
    Replaced CMOS BAT
Checked if smth's wrong with cpu
Cleared RAM slots with rubbing alcohol
System wont even boot without memory in DIMM 4 (ram slot 4), and BIOS only recognizes memory in DIMM 4
This is really frustrating, because there is no reason for smth to not work all of a sudden
    Any help? Tnx

There is a known issue with Powerbooks with the lower memory slot failing, and it sounds like yours may be starting to fail. At one point there was an Apple recall for a small sliver of Powerbook systems to fix that.
The alternatives are to run with 1GB in the upper slot, try one of the internet vendors that say they can fix that (check references), or install a used logic board. I don't believe Apple is repairing Powerbooks anymore, so if you want to buy a used logic board, you'll need to install it yourself, or perhaps an Apple Authorized Service Provider would be willing to do the work.

  • P35 Neo2 POST failure

    Hi
Have just built a brand new system consisting of MSI P35 Neo2, Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550, XFX 9800GT, Corsair XMS2 DDR2 800, Seagate HD, Samsung optical drive.  All items obtained from one (internet) supplier.
Problem is: PC powers up but won't pass POSTs.
According to LEDs on mobo it gets to POST step 10 (testing base & extended memory) but stops there. i.e. it wont get to step 11 (assign resources to all ISA).
    Monitor displays initial MSI graphics.
    Can't enter BIOS setup.
Pressing TAB or DEL during initial MSI screen does allow display of BIOS version (1.8) & 2048MB OK, but nothing more.
Mobo was returned to supplier who apparently cleared CMOS, tested, found no fault and returned.
After re-building, exactly same problem was observed.  I've cleared CMOS again by removing battery but no improvement.
Mobo advertised to be compatible with my processor, but is it?
Certain forum threads hint that maybe I need to upgrade BIOS for use with 45nm processor, but as a beginner I'm not sure how one upgrades the BIOS with a PC that won't even boot to BIOS setup.
Been sitting for weeks with an exciting looking system which won't even boot!
Any help will be very gratefully received.

there is nothing wrong with mobo or bios, you have bought an overclocked memory default voltage 2volt.
power pc press delete and hold it  till you get into bios then go into cell menu section. in there you have to set the cpu and memory setting from auto to manual and change the memory voltage from 1.8 to 1.9 or 2 volt save and exit .
post a reply then we can guide for the rest (first step is to boot the pc for the window to load)
use only one memory stick in slot 1 (closest to cpu)  first. then we add other memories.
    it is compatible but overclocked.

  • K8N Neo4 Platinum boots only with CMOS reset

This is my first build (and perhaps my last). The system ran without error for two weeks but the BIOS recognized only 2.88 GB rather than the 4 GB which are in the DIMM slots. I removed the power cord, put on an anti-static strap and reseated two of the 1 GB sticks. Since that time it will not boot without a CMOS reset. (But the BIOS recognizes 3.9 GB on most of my boots. On my last one, it was back to 2.88 GB).
    Here's my booting process:
Remove power cord and switch PSU off.
Put on wrist strap and depress CMOS reset button on board for ten seconds.
Insert power cord and switch PSU on.
At this point the system boots normally without my depressing the normal power switch at the front of the case! And it runs without error once it boots.
I can reboot the system from the operating system without problems. When I shutdown (power off), depressing the normal power switch has no effect and I have to boot with the CMOS reset process above.
Memtest86 shows no memory errors. A similar thread with Neo2's suggested setting ht = 4x but that didn't help in my case. I also let the BIOS load optimized defaults but that didn't fix things either. I'm open to whatever suggestions you can make! (If my signature with my system configuration doesn't appear, I'll post it in a followup.)

Looks like a Memory/Motherboard problem but I've never heard of it before or a low powered power supply could stop it recognising the 4GB so may be worth borrowing a more powerful one to test and see.. all out of ideas on this now
You were right. I borrowed a Rosewill RE501-BLK 3.3v@28a, 5v@30a, 12v@34a, 500W and now I don't have to reset the CMOS to boot! The case power switch still doesn't work--I have to turn off the PSU and turn it on again to boot--but others in this thread have suggested improper wiring of the switch which I'll check out. But I certainly can live with this since the PSU power switch is at least external to the case (as opposed to the CMOS reset switch). Now I'll go to the PSU thread to pick out a new PSU.
The BIOS on repeated boots recognizes the memory as about 3.7 GB (and Linux at about 3.4 GB, but I suppose that there are "good" reasons that OS's give a different number than BIOS's) and I can live with that, also, since, in an earlier post in this thread, I quoted MSI's "warning" that I could only expect 3+ GB to be recognized by the BIOS if I filled all 4 DIMMs with 1 GB sticks. But I think my 1.52beta MS-7125 BIOS also contributed to this increase. (My v. 1.3 BIOS recognized only 2.88 GB.)
I'm happy and thank all who contributed suggestions to this thread. Now I need to configure the software, a task that I know at least something about.

  • Do i need to load defaults after cmos reset?

MSI 970 gaming owner here, I reset the cmos after a bios update, do i need to press F1 go into bios to load setup defaults or can i press F2 to just continue into windows?

Clearing cmos resets to setup defaults. If you continue (F1) you are using defaults. In bios you can change settings if needed.

  • Powerbook 5,7 boots only after pmu reset, does not wake up from sleep

    Hello,
my PB 5,7 wont boot normally. I got to reset the pmu every time i try to power on, even when i put it into sleep it will not wake up - only after the pmu reset.
What i tryed until now is:
reset pram, disconnect: HD, optical drive, PC Card, Soudboard, Airport, right USB board, left USB Flex cable, fans – no other reaction.
I changed: Topcase with keyboard, DC-IN board, power cables, batterie cable, RAM and right USB board with the pram batterie - every time it will only start with the pmu reset.
I installed a new tiger system and also a new leopard from orig. DVDs and updated both via Airport with the combo updates.
Now i dont have any further idea. Every help would be appreciated! Did i have overseen a crucial thing? Thank you all!
    Must I replace the Logicboard?
    Best regards
    siebo

    Hallo,
yes I run the AHT. There came no error message. For the AHT my Powerbooks seems totaly ok. And I also reset my Mac's PRAM and NVRAM without any results.
But thank you for your suggestions!

  • KT3 Ultra only boots after cmos reset

I have a brand new (bought last week) KT3 Ultra v1.0 (MS-6380E) with no RAID and no BlueTooth.  I've updated the BIOS to v5.7.
CPU: AMD XP 2200+ (clocked as same)
RAM: Kingston 256MB PC2700 (one stick, tried all slots, tried different stick, also tried 2 sticks at once)
    PSU: ANTEC 350W +3.3=20A +5=33A (both = 180A) +12=15A -12=1A -5=1A +5SB=2A (also tried L&C 400W +3.3=28A +5=40A (both = 220W max, amps not labled) +12=17A -12=.8A -5=.3A +5SB=2A)
Cooler: CoolerMaster CP5-6J31C-01 (rated to 3000+ or more)
CPU temp: ATI mach64 PCI (also tried 2 other cards, both PCI and AGP)
    D-Link PCI NIC
    WD 6.4GB HDD (tried disconnecting)
ancient 4x CDRom (as 2nd master) (also tried disconnecting)
    1.44 MB floppy (tried disconnecting)
No hardware changes had any effect.
Before updating bios, the system would boot only about 1/10th of the time.  When it didn't boot, usually the screen would stay blank and a beep code of "longer pause, long beep, longer pause, long beep, etc." would occur.  Cold booting seemed to increase likelihood of booting.  Removing and reseating ram may also have increased likelihood.  Putting ram in 2nd slot seemed to help.
After updating bios to v5.7, the system would never boot at all except EVERY TIME after a cmos clear.  After the clear, the machine would boot and report "invalid CMOS settings" and if I pressed F2, it would accept defaults and boot OS.  If I opened setup and rebooted, it would again fail to boot until another cmos jumper clear.
Lemme know what you guys think.  Thanks in advance.

    First, thanks for the input.
Second, please note that the cpu cooler is rated for a much faster Athlon XP than I'm using.
Third, do you recommend a specific brand of RAM for best chances of success?
Fourth, do you recommend a specific brand of PSU (if you think mine is underpowered).
    Thanks in advance.

  • Pc won't boot after cmos reset

Hi i was working on my m92p thinkcentre and everything worked properly, after i finished working i powered off my computer properly(start->shutdown).
The next day when i pressed the power button it booted but than showed a message saying that it couldn't find an operating system and rebooted and so on (infinite loop of this message). So my first idea was to reset the cmos, i went into the cmos menu by pressing f1 and weiredly it suggested resseting the cmos setting (It never did it before) and so i did but after resseting the cmos i rebooted the computer and the monitor stopped working (No signal).
What i did next was opening the computer case, pulling the cmos battery and putting it back in after a minute but it only made the problem worse.
Now every time i boot my computer nothing appears in the monitor and i hear 2 beeps and that's it, nothing happens next.
    What should i do??
    Thanks for the help

if the computer making a beeping sound, one of the memory sticks or both of them may have a loose connection. try one memory stick first then try to boot up the pc...if it works attach the seconed memory stick...if its making a beeping sound you have to reattach the memory stick.  another thing to consider is the memory sticks should be compatible to your computers specs.

  • X79A-GD45(8D) Blank screen after CMOS reset

I had a bad switch and a bad GPU that came on my Black Pearl
from Cyberpower. They sent replacements and I thought I would
add a hard drive I had and a sound card. I was adding the
sound card because after I got replacement the GPU the sound was bad.
I must have hit the on board system with the card.......
I put the hard drive and switch in and tested the system.
It worked fine but the spalsh screen didn't come up.
I was going to disable the onboard sound in BIOS but the Boot screen
nor BIOS would come up. If I hit DEL or f11 I got a blank screen. If I
did nothing it went straight to the Windows screen with the users on it.
I checked on the forum and found the thread about reseting the CMOS to
fix that problem. I shorted the jumper as the manual said, removed the
battery and hit the reset switch. The system came up, sounded like it
was hitting the floppy then the blue LEDs went out and it came up again.
It would keep coming up and shutting down until I pulled the plug.
Is it looking for a boot disk? I have a repair disk from CyberPower
I tried in both drives while it was cycling with nothing happening.
    Any suggestions?

  • Problem after CMOS reset K8T NEO FIS2R

    Hi,
After messing around with my memory timings, I could no longer boot my system, so I decided to reset my CMOS using the jumper.  After doing so, my system gets stuck at the SATA drives not detected BIOS not installed screen, and I can no longer access the BIOS.  I'm fairly sure that the BIOS not installed message is in reerence to the SATA controller and not the main BIOS itself.  I have tried reseting the BIOS a couple of more times with no different results.  My D-Bracket reads red LED in location 1, green LEDS in 2, 3 and 4.
    System:
    Athlon 64 3000+
    K8T NEO FIS2R
    Radeon 9700 pro
    Audigy 2 ZS
    400W PSU
    Any ideas would be welcome.
    Thanks

    Hi
Try removing the Ram sticks when resetting Bios, remeber to earth yourself first, also remove power cable, and leave for a couple of minse, to allow all chips to discharge, then replace mem sticks, the cmos jumper and the power cable. Try to get into bios at start to reset the timings you have changed.  If still having a prob, use Ctrl + Home as you boot, holding them down will initialise the bios. You will have to reset the bios settings.
Failing that you will need to use a recovery floppy.
    Good luck

  • Why i get 502 bad gateway in CERTAIN sites only after reboot, reset browser, update flash player etc and still getting 'bad gateway'?

2 sites in particular when I go to stream old TV shows, my movie site is ok, youtube is ok, all plugins are up to date, I've reset firefox, rebooted and all that regular stuff but still these 2 sites won't stream my video

now it is all the links on the given sites, I've tried everything, maybe it is related to the given 2 sites, one being 'watchseries.ch' I don't know, all input is appreciated. At this point I may just wait a day or two before trying anything else and see if it is these particular sites.

  • P35 Neo2 - OS died, need help restoring RAID after re-install of XP

I have a P35 Neo2 with on-board Intel RAID.  I need a bit of help getting a two drive RAID going again after reinstalling XP.
    Here's my situation:
Same hardware, MB, etc. I originally set up the system with a 20gb IDE and two 320gb SATA drives. I put the OS on the 20gb, and set the two 320's up as a RAID. I partitioned the 320's into 200gb + 120gb sections on each drive. The 200gb partitions were mirrored between the two drives, and the remaining 120gb on each drive was used as non-RAID storage space.
I picked up a nasty virus-spyware a month or two ago that I was struggling to find a fix for when the OS began to BSOD. I put the 20gb IDE to the side, and put a 40gb IDE in it's place. I re-installed XP on it last night, and now need to get the RAID up and running again.
I went into Disk Management and it showed three dynamic drives with a yellow triangle icon and labeled 'foreign'. I right clicked and found an option to 'import'. I clicked on import and a window popped up showing all of the partitions and logical drives I had previously created on the two drive RAID. I figured I was in business, so I clicked OK.
Disk Management now shows one dynamic disk as 'Online', but still shows two as 'Foreign'. If I right click on them, and chose import, I get the same window showing my partitions and logical drives, but if I click OK, I get a warning message that: "Some of the volumes you are importing will lose data because you have not moved all of your disks to the system."
I'm in over my head at this point, so any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    GeoD

A 200gb partition is restored, but the 120gb is not, which is confusing. ALso, when I look at the logical drives in the partition, I'm beginning to think I had the 200gb mirror /120 gb storage backwards. The data restored is not something I would be concerned with losing. It's installed applications, and multimedia files that I could lose without worry.
There is also 70gb dynamic drive labeled Missing.  I know I left a small portion of all three of the drives unallocated as a reserve, so that must be what this is. It's like the RAID info is incomplete which leads me to the next piece of info.
Something I didn't initially mention for the sake of brevity, was when I right-clicked on 'Import Disk' the applet noted the disk was 3/3. I assumed that meant disk 3 of 3 disks. I've since begun to wonder if I imported the disks in the wrong order. ie) I should have imported disk 1/3 first.
Do you know how to clear out Disk Mgt's info, so I can start over?
I also noticed only one of the 320 SATA's shows up in Device Mgr, (DM). What I found both confused me and encouraged me.
When I created the array, I named the the drives RAID0 and RAID1. They both show up in DM. But only one of them shows up as the drive model: WDC WD3201ABYS-01B9A0. There should be two of them.
The OS knows there should be a RAID, but for some reason only one of the drives show up as hardware.  I rebooted and checked the data and power supply cables, (connected), the BIOS, (both drives show up) and both drives show up in Disk Mgt.  Just not in DM.
Does that mean the HD has died?
Part of my difficulty is I had a brain injury in 2001, followed by another in 2003. The 2nd injury caused 6 months of what the docs call it a walking coma - I walked and talked, but have no memory of the time.
When I 'woke up' in the Fall of 2003, I found I had lost considerable cognitive function and other problems.  These problem have ended up disabling me, (I'm now on SS Disability).
Until then I had been a 'System Admin' for micro-businesses, (max - 15 computers). I built systems and servers, installed networks, maintained them and did all the support. Basically I was these company's Sys Admin on an as-needed basis.
One thing I lost was the ability to troubleshoot and repair hardware. Combined with other cognitive problems, I was forced into closing my business. At the time, I was maintaining close to fifty offices; ~20 had Peer-to-Peer networks & ~20 had servers I had built.
What's doubly frustrating is I was just getting ready to sign up with an online backup service when I got hit with a nasty malware/virus that's so new there's no info on the 'net about it. I got entangled in trying to fix it and spaced out the online back up. Now I find myself in a situation where I desperately need to restore the data on these RAID drives.  Because of the memory problems I now have, I completely depend on my computer as an auxiliary 'brain' - I have stuff on these drives that I have to have.
I didn't do much with RAID when I was still in the biz, and this is the first time I've had problems with a RAID of my own, so I'm struggling to figure this stuff out.
Should I be able to install one of these drives by itself so I can get the data from it? The way I understand the theory of RAID is that if one drive dies, you can put another in and the mirrored portion will re-create itself on the new drive.  Couldn't that be a way to get the important data off the drive or drives if they don't want to go back together as a RAID?
I could back each up to the online service and then just rebuild them.  Not my first choice, but it would reduce my stress level if I thought I could do it.
Sorry to go on, but now you can see why I'm both struggling & worried.
Thanks for any info or help.
    Later,
    GeoD

  • TBB4 Any way to post only reset?

    Hi Experts:
Any way to post only the reset of a TBB4?
My Client went live on 01.01.12. They have migrated account balances including accrued interests as part of its assets and liabilities at 31.12.11 (they have even uploaded gains and losses cause their closing balance date is 30.06.12)
They have decided to run TBB4 every month with reset.
They have already uploaded all the TRM transactions at that date (31.12.11)
Now they need to reverse on 01.01.12 the acrrued interests calculated via old systems
So a good idea is to run for all transactions uploaded the TBB4 with key date 31.12.11 but only to post the reset.
    Any solution?
    regards
    Claudio

    Hi,
You can mark the accrual update types as not relevant for posting and the reset update types as relevant for posting and run TBB4.  After posting, you can mark the accrual update types as relevant for posting for the next accrual run onwards.
    Regards,
    Ravi

  • 'You can post in new year only after closing the previous year

    Hello Experts,
I am also getting same error while executing depreciation run AFAB ''You can post in new year only after closing the previous year''.
I found one OSS Note 18800 and it is saying solution as below ...
At the first depreciation posting in the new fiscal year after a shortened fiscal year, the fiscal year variants must, in all cases, still be entered in asset customizing and in FI customizing for the affected company code. If necessary, all periods for the following fiscal year must be maintained with the variant of the shortened fiscal year.
Up to 2.2D the following correction must also be installed:
Please carry out the syntax check only in main program SAPLAFAR.
But in my case there is no shortended fiscal year.
Can I apply this OSS note correction instructions ?
    Please suggest me.

    Hi
I don't think so. Moreover that is applicable till 2.2D.
Moreover depreciation is to be run for all periods you have not run earlier. Please check upto which period dep run has happened. Thereafter close the fiscal years in order thro AJAB.
