P35 Platinum BIOS setup CRITICAL QUESTIONS...

Hi,
my config:
Motherboard: MSI Platinum version 1.2 BIOS 1.5 092807
CPU: Intel Q6600 Quad Core 2,5 GHz, 1066 MHz, G0
RAM: 2 x 2Gb Patriot Extreme Performance DDR2 800MHz 5-5-5-12 at 2.0 Volts
PSU: Corsair 620-HX 620W
HD: 2 x WD Raptor 74Gb WD740ADFD - 00NLR5
GPU: PNY Quadro Fx570
CASE: Antec Solo
THERMAL: Noctua NH12-F
FANS: 1 x Nexus 120mm 2 x Nexus 92mm
DVD
Floppy drive
S/O: Windows XP 64 bit
SOME CRITICAL QUESTIONS ABOUT BIOS SETTINGS:
1 - Advanced BIOS features -> MPS Table Version [1.1 or 1.4]
I read that this parameter depends on the SO type.
I would like to install Windows XP64 bit. What's the right setting?
2 - PnP/PCI Configurations -> PCI Latency Timer [32, 64, 96, 128, 160, 192, 224, 248] where higher is better
I use PCI-E device (PNY Quadro Fx570). Are these parameters valid also for PCI-E?
3 - CELL menu -> Advance DRAM Configuration
I would like to manually set up the CAS etc.. parameters to the Patriot recommended values: 5-5-5-12 at 2.0V
These are the first 4 parameters...and the others??? Patriot don't specify anything else...
And how can I set up the voltage of memory? Under "Memory Voltage" there's "AUTO" set up, and there's no way to change it...if I set up custom memory parameters (CAS, ...) is the DRAM voltage auto adjusted by the motherboard (i.e. 2 VOLT) ?
4- CELL menu -> Adjust PCIE Frequency [between 100 and 200 MHz]
These are my GPU specifications:
PNY Quadro Fx570
core clock: 460 MHz
memory clock: 400 (800) MHz
Memory type: DDR2 SDRAM
RAMDAC: Dual 400 MHz
So....wath's the correct value for the PCIE Frequency????
THANX A LOT.

Just change the first 4 to show 5-5-5-15, the rest are best left alone for stability issues.

  • P35 platinum bios memory timings

    hi
i have a question about the memory timings in the BIOS in the P35 Platinum
once you changed the value to manual
all the settings become available to change
i'm only interested in the first four setting i.e. cas trc trp tras
i dont know and dont care about the other settings
but their is no way to turn them on auto
should i assume that the initial settings they have are taken from the SPD and are therefore safe

    Quote from: hapi.djus on 22-September-07, 03:32:09
Is the TRC the same as the TRFC?
not is not the same i'm also looking for the trc option but i couldn't fin it nether
    -Row Cycle Time (tRC).
Determines the minimum number of clock cycles a memory row takes to
complete a full cycle, from row activation up to the precharging of
the active row. For optimal performance, use the lowest value you can,
according to the tRC = tRAS + tRP formula. For example:
if your memory module's tRAS is 7 clock cycles and its tRP is 4 clock cycles,
then the row cycle time or tRC should be 11 clock cycles.
-Refresh to Activate Delay / Refresh Cycle Time (tRFC).
Determines the number of clock measured from a Refresh command (REF)
until the first Activate command (ACT) to the same rank
if you want all the definitions view this page http://www.tweakers.fr/timings.html
my memories work at 5-5-5-10-38-6-3-3-3 @866MHz waiting for my others ballistix to lower more the timings

  • P35 Platinum + BIOS issue?

    Hi,
Today I updated the BIOS for my P35 to 1.3 through Windows. Everything seemed to go OK but as the system rebooted it never came back to life. The D-LEDs indicate "Memory DecetionFail" however the system was working just fine before the flash.
The ram i'm using is "Corsair XMS2 6400C4".
    Rest of the system is:
    -P35 Platinum
    -E6750
    -Above mentioned ram in 2 x 1GB
    -GF 7900GT
    -Creative X-Fi
    -Antec NeoHE 550W
Any ideas? Try to find a floppy and reflash back to 1.1?

Quote from: qyx on 26-August-07, 00:28:14
Try clearing cmos carefully (with power cord disconnected) as described in the manual.  Then try it with battery removed and letting machine sit for at least 30 minutes before restoring jumper to original position, closing case and reconnecting powercord.  Windows flashing can be quite risky as you just learned.  If cmos clear does not work, you should reflash back to the last bios that worked (see other threads for right way to flash).  Good luck
Thanks for the tip i tried to clear the CMOS right away but it didn't do anything...i've since read that there are some issues with the 1.3 bios and CL4 ram and i'm going to get some ordinary CL5 DDR2-667 ram tomorrow and will try to boot to see if that does it..
The reason i did the Windows update thing is that i have no floppy so will have to get me one of those as well tomorrow to make sure that I can reflash to 1.1 if indeed the BIOS is corrupt due to the Windows update.

  • Msi P35 platinum: bios auto-raises NB & SB voltages when fsb over 316

Why does this happen when I'm overclocking FSB in bios and reaching over 316, NB voltage goes 1.250V->1.450V and SB I/O Power 1.5V->1.8V automatically. Both are in red text after this.
Of course, I can try to lower these settings back to normal but never tried.. I've just left these raised voltage settings because everything is running fine (now E2140@2816MHz,352FSB). But are these settings safe (NB 1,45V and SB I/O 1,8V) ??
I know that raising NB voltage is necessary when raising up FSB but SB I/O Power voltage?
Should I try lower these voltages and see if my computer is still stable?
    I have bios v1.6, mobo msi p35 platinum rev1.1...
    Please help me

this is probably due to overclock jumper's setting for FSB STRAP(200/266/333).
With my Neo 2 Fr (pretty similar) about the same happen to me but at 382...then I moved the jumper to the 333 setting (see manual) and no more change in voltage of NB and SB over 382.
If you do so, be careful on your setting before the change of position of the jumper as it automaticaly add 67 mhz to the FSB and so the system may not start because of too high cpu freq. Be careful also on memory multiplier (before the change set it to 1:1 or calculate the ram freq. (FSB+67 mhz and your memory multiplier)) as the system may not start because of the RAM.
However even if it not start after 2-3 reboot it start in safe mode(as after OC) and you can change the settings.
My advice:I think your cpu fsb by default is 200, if so and if you don't plan to go over 382 set the jumper to 266 (you should be ok with voltages until 382mhz of FSB.
Always remember what said over about the +67 mhz on FSB when you move the jumper!!!!

  • P35 Platinum - BIOS 1.C

Anyone had/seen complaints about not being able to install their OS with BIOS 1.C on a P35 Platinum?
I've verified it's not the optical media, multiple versions/discs of Windows fail.
I've verified it's not the optical drive, internal and USB drive fail.
I want to use AHCI, but have also tried IDE, both SATA control methods fail.
Error messages are erratic. They happen at different times during the installation. The messages themselves are always different. Sometimes a blue screen, sometimes one or more error popups from the install utility, sometimes it just freezes.

    Any ideas appreciated.

Ugh , I forgot to increase the voltage to RAM after updating to BIOS 1.C. Apparently even at relaxed/spec clock speed and timings, it will not run at 1.8v. I increased the voltage to 2.2 and everything was back to normal. I should have deducted from the erratic errors that the RAM was the fault. Such an angry, yet relieved feeling once it finally hit me.
    Thanks for the help.

  • P35 platinum, memory and videocard questions

    Hi folks.
I recently had a problem with an Asus P5K board in the sense that it doesn't allow use of 8gb of ram (despite saying it does) when you use 4x 2gb sticks. I want to replace this board with a P35 platinum but first I want to make sure my geil 8gb kit (4x 2gb DDR2 6400 sticks) will work (I'll be runnnig windows xp x64).
Also I have an XFX Geforce 8800 Ultra which has quite a big cooler, I read in some reviews of the board that the southbridge heatsink is too high for cards with big coolers like that to fit neatly. My question is will it still work? Can I screw the card in or do I have to live in fear of it plummetting out of the slot?
Thanks in advance for your answers.

I've tried 4 x 2GB OCZ DDR2 memory sticks. P35 Platinum detects 8GB main memory but shows usage memory as only 4GB out of 8GB. I've emailed MSI helpline if they can help out.

  • K8N Neo Platinum Bios 1.3 Question

This is bit of a dumb question..... I am not a noob either, been building computers for 6 years.
I have a K8N Neo Platinum with AMD64 3000, 1 GB Corsair Value Ram, 160 GB Western Digital ATA Drive, ATI 9800 Pro 128MB Catalyst 4.7,   LG DVD Drive and NEC 2510A DVD burner, Windows XP Pro with SP 1a.
Tried to get into Safe Mode the other day ( to uninstall the video driver with Driver Cleaner) ...Hit F8 while booting , got the standard menu for safe mode, picked the standard "Safe Mode " option....then the computer restarts.
So I can't get into safe mode
I went back to the MSI website to get bios version again....then I saw this for Bios version 1.3 which I have on my board....
    Quote
System reboot to safe mode when "Insert" key pressed
Does this mean, instead of hitting F8...you hit the insert key , or does this mean hit F8, chose the menu selection you want , then hit insert while it is going through the boot process.
    Thought that I would ask?

The "safe mode" that the BIOS message refers to is not related to Windows' Safe Mode. The BIOS safe mode lets you un-do any overclocking or memory settings that might make your computer so unstable that you can't even get into the BIOS settings to change them. In that case, you hold insert while powering on to reset the BIOS to default safe values.
As for your problem getting into Windows' Safe Mode. If you upgraded from another motherboard that uses a different chipset, or if you somehow got the wrong chipset drivers installed, then the old AGP GART or chipset drivers will cause the system to halt/reboot very early in the Windows boot process even in safe mode. I've run into this problem before and its tricky. Best thing to do is switch back to the old motherboard, then go into safe mode and remove all chipset-related drivers, and then switch back to the new motherboard. If you can't do that, try running system repair from the windows setup CD. And failing that, you'd probably have to fully re-install the OS.

  • Any one ever posted on p35 platinum bios 1.3 with 1066 ram?

just wondering cause im outta options here.

i'm was testing P35 Neo2-FIR (nearly like Platinum) with 1066 memory (A-DATA, Kingston etc.) and it was w/o problems
well relatively because i needed to setup manually CAS etc. values (SPD autodetect seems to always set wrong CAS (6) etc))
with 1.4 it seems be bit better in autodetect area too

  • P965 Platinum BIOS setup?

First of all here is my puter hardware.
BIOS v1.2 out of the box
    Intel Pentium D 3.4 Ghz Presler/4mb Cache/800FSB/Socket 775
    Corsair TWIN2X2048-6400C4D
    Maxtor 6V160 SATA II
NEC 3550 DVD/CD R/RW (w/ latest firmware, but can not remember what it is).
ATI X1600 Pro (in the x16 slot ofcourse)
    Ultra ChillTec CPU cooler
Ok, since that is just about all that matters I will now getto the point.
When I first set it up I was reading through the manual at the same time. I noticed that there are a few arrors in the manal. That is why I need some assistance. One thing that is strange is the fact that HT does not exist in the BIOS like the book states. All I see is Intel SpeedStep, which I disabled.
Can anyone give me a betteway to setup my bios with values that actually exist?
On nother note the below happened on first boot up after pluggig in all my wires.
I just set the time and then looked through the rest to make sure nothing was way off, then rebooted! Puter shut down after a beep and after 3 to 5 seconds came back on with a message stating that the oc confi faied and system would be set back to defaults. I actually started to laugh sice I had not changed a thing in the oc settings or anything that might have triggered that message. Then, after my wife told me to stop laughing so hard I then went on like it never happened.
Rebooted system, no message about oc this time, and allowed the WinXP DVD to take over. One thing that really got me steaming was the fact that it took over an hour to copy the WinXP setup files. I then decided to try and update the bios. It would not update. Kept telling me that I enter the wrong information.
Anyway, I am now just using the basic WinXPSP2 CD to load the OS. Still taking a excessive amount of time compared to my Pentium 4 3.2Ghz supper heat producer with the MSI 865PE Neo 2 Platnium and above hd/dvd.
I am going to try and get the BIOS updated to see if things change. It will not work in DOS so I will try Live Update.

Quote from: nickursis on 03-March-07, 20:13:12
Well, I have just returned to MSI after a long hiatus since my ECS 965A-T seems to like to lock up a lot. The tech support who said that the IDE will not support optical drives should be shot, then fired. Any IDE drive should work, and the only issue may be that the driver may be the root cause of the problems. I installed SP2 Home on my ECS board which also has the Micron controller in it, and never installed any driver, and it worked fine, so it can be done. Your burning issue may be a software problem with the burning software. To test, try to have a plain file of some flavor, and then use XP's built in burning capability for the burner. If you can burn, it is not hardware or any driver. If not, then you do have an issue of some kind with the burner. If you can read a cd with your drive, then you should also have no problems burning. I wish Intel had not made the bad decision to try to force the world to SATA completly, that was bad. You can also get a PATA to SATA converter that will let you use an SATA port, and see if that changes anything, I don't know how it will effect speed. Also see what the Micron controller is set to, I have seen a couple of other posts where it gets stuck into PIO mode and your software may not recognize it there.
To cover everything that you stated I will just state "Tryed It!" Windows sees it as a SCSI drive, therefore the drive does not work properly. Windows built in burning will not work since it thinks no buner exists. I have not tried any of the other drivers from JMicron though. Maybe I will give that SCSI driver a shot.
Since I have time I will add to more of what techsupt stated to me. He told me that the drive that they have not had issues with at all is anything from LiteOn. Others may or may not work. I have a LiteOn DVD drive that I have had since I was stationed in Japan back in 2001. Problem was that it failed and when I talked to LiteOn techsupt they told me that my drive was to old to be under warranty. That was 2 months after purchase. Since I was back in the US when it failed I was screwed when it came to exchanging it where I purchased it. I know, my dumb fault, but I will never buy another product from LiteOn.
I like that website Zip Zoom Fly. They have real good prices. I may upgrade to a full SATA drive, but since I already have the ATA to SATA adaptors on the way then I will wait and see how they work. BTW, Nick, you will never see SATA speeds from a ATA/ATAPI drive regardless of having it adapted to a SATA controller. It is and will always be a ATA/ATAPI drive running at 66/100/133 speed.
TNT1, if you have a website for that SCSI drive I will give it a shot. If not don't bother looking for it again.
EDIT: NVM, I found the websit and after 30 minutes of digging found the newest driver. Installed and still nothing! Oh well, got my hopes up.

  • P35 Platinum Bios 1.1 and Quad 6700

Will the older Bios ver 1.1 support a Q6700 processor? Is anyone actually running a quad core with this bios? I am now running a 6850 and everything is running perfect with the 1.1 bios, overclocked to 3.45Gig.

Remove any overclocking before flashing! Also, use the USB flashing tool developed here at the Global Forums for the safest method.

  • P35 platinum bios update query

just updated bios from 1.1 to 1.4 and now lan stays active when pc is shutdown...now under 1.1 the lans only became active once windows was up an running and all lights on router went out on shutdown has anyone else seen this behviour.alos this updated bios removes some of the options is there an f key ican press to get to a advanced bios state

There are a few reasons I guess.  One of the key is the Wake on LAN. Trying turning this option off in bios to see if your lan light go off on shutdown. But this is very common in most PCs. Give it a shot and let me know how it goes.

  • Which BIOS for Overclocking a P35 Platinum

I bought the P35 Platinum based on the positive reviews of performance and overclocking ability.  Reading through the forums, it's not clear which is the most stable version (other than 1.0) to get to the performance numbers I have seen.  Also, some reviewers mention versions like P03, VP.0B4 (assume a beta, but 1.4?), etc.  What versions are they referring to?
I was thinking of moving to 1.1 or 1.6. I know the "if it ain't broke...", but I want to overclock and don't think the 1.0 BIOS will get the results I am looking for:

No, no no it isn't. You need X38 for PCI-E 2.0. But cards don't even use PCI-E 1.1 bandwidth, nevermind doubling that figure...
