P35 Platinum Combo - 1066 spec ram running at 800, help please

I just finished building my computer and although it runs perfectly, in the Bios it says my memory is only running at 800Mhz instead of the 1066 that it should be.
Could anyone please explain in simple terms how to turn up what is needed so I can configure correct. Also, any bios tweaks to improve performance, not necessarily overclocking, would be muchly appreciated
Many thanks in advance

belveder, your stick is OK. The highest non-OC supported RAM is DDR2-800. There is NO DDR2-1066, it's not a true spec. It's just OVERCLOCKED marketing gimics. The highest DDR2 is DDR2-800. The sticks you have only tell you that they have the potential to be overclocked to 1066. Nothing more. So when they're running at 400Mhz that is ok. nothing wrong.
If you want to get up to 1066Mhz, you MUST overclock. I personally don't encourage overclock, but if you insist, you may visit the OC forum.

  • Need Help with Memory OC to 1066 on P35 Platinum Combo

    Hi,
I've been trying to get my Corsair Dominator memory to 1066, but everytime I change settings, the system will not post. So far I've:
    - Disabled EIST & DOT
    - Disabled 'Configure DRAM Timing by SPD' and set values to 5-5-5-15 (left all others as is)
    - Processor reports 333x9
    - Set ratio to 1:1.6.7 bringing adjusted timings to 1109. I also have 1:1.2 for 1332 & 1:1.50 for 999
    - Memory voltage set to 2.1
Not sure where to go from here as other MS reported here seem to have different settings than the P35 Platinum Combo.
    Specs are:
    - Intel E8400 3.0GHz Dual Core (45nm)
    - MSI P35 Platinum Combo
    - Sapphire Radeon HD 3870 512MB GDDR4
    - Xigmatek NRP-MC651 650W Modular PSU
    - Corsair Dominator 4GB 1066 DDR2 RAM (PC2 8500)
    - Samsung 22X DVD Burner
    - Lexa Blackline Case
Any advice welcome -- I'm at a loss.

    Hi,
You would probably better off, posting in the Overclocking section than here.

  • Is P35 Platinum Combo compatible with Windos 8?

I never imagined when I bought Windows 8 that my pc might be too old but looking at the driver supprot page for my P35 Platinum Combo makes me think now that I should not be using Windows 8.  My pc has been having problems every since I installed Windows 8 on a new drive.   For a while it would often crash/auto restart.  Then things were ok for a while.  Now, in the past week, my pc is really slow.  Simple things like opening file explorer take a very long time.  Surprisingly, in safe mode my pc runs faster.
Video Driver is up to date and has been since I installed Win 8  (radeon 13.1)
    board drivers up to date
    malware/adware/virus scanned
running with only an ssd drive.  80gb free space on a 160gb drive
followed ssd drive tweaks such as indexing off, prefetching off, maintenance off, RAC off, etc...
minimized virtual memory to better use my 8gb ram
Just wondering what others think about running Windows 8 on this motherboard of mine.  My specs are:
    P35 Platinum Combo  (msi.com/product/mb/P35-Platinum-Combo.html)
    Intel E8400  (ark.intel.com/products/33910/Intel-Core2-Duo-Processor-E8400-6M-Cache-3_00-GHz-1333-MHz-FSB)

    P.s.
Can't post complete links since this is my first post.

USER-HOSTILE!  Hahaha!  Hilarious vid  I can sympathize with the author.  I'm a fairly seasoned user and while I did manage to figure out all the controls, after much googling, I still had to deal with all the crashing and slow downs.
Well I decided not to waste any more time and reverted back to windows 7.  All is perfectly functional now and at a nice healthy speed.  I think my hardware was just too old for Windows 8 since my friends pc is running fine in Windows 8.  Granted...  He hates the interface and is now jealouse that I'm back to Windows 7, haha.
Now to create my next catastrophe!  Updating my bios.  lol.  I noticed that the most recent version will provide support for L2 cache which would be nice since it seems my proccessor has that ability.
Thanx so much for your response Bernhard.

  • P35 platinum combo will not boot windows after bios update via Live Update

    Hi,
I had everything running on windows 7 fine until 2 days ago.  I installed Live Update from MSI website.  I was about to install driver updates for my motherboard, but the bios update went instead.  my pc tried to restart after the bios update installed, but it failed.  would not post and would only see black screen.
then i removed one of my memory sticks.  it would post, but then windows would not start up.  it would get stuck at windows loading screen.  i tried to reformat with my windows cd.  but during install it would blue screen of death me.  i tried multiple times and it would always blue screen of death with different errors.  the last one i remember was a message saying i should off turn shadowing and caching.
this all started happening after i attempted bios update via Live Update.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

  • Help needed regarding P35 Platinum COmbo Ver 1.1

    Hi all,
I have recently purchased P35 Platinum combo ver 1.1 motherboard and whenever I try t boot up the system, it boots...then shuts down and again boots up. After that...nothing happens...no display...nothing...and I do not even reach BIOS. The LED indicators at on the board suggest that there is some problem with the Memory. I have also followed all the instructions given in the manual and used the turbo cards. I am using 1x2 Transcend DDR2 800 ram. I also found few other people who have had the same problem....

well I just checked the ram details on the net and it states:
    VDDQ=1.8V ± 0.1V guess this means its 1.8V...

So I assume you have installed your ram module in the DIMM_DDR2_1 slot.
Do you know which are your memory specifications? I mean, voltage, latencies.
If the memory that you have runs @ 2.1 or 2.2 Volts, perhaps you have to use another ram module just to enter to bios, change the vdimm setting to the proper one, and then put back your original memory module.

  • MSI P35 Platinum + Q9550 CPU + 4x1GB RAM

    Greetings!
I just upgraded my system by changing just the CPU, from E6550 to Q9550, and having some small problems.
    The past:
My system was stable with the E6550 and the 4x1GB RAM sticks (Kingston, 667MHz), with the only negligible issue being that during POST it momentarily stuck (e.g. for a fraction of a second) at ~3100MB before sweeping the entire 4096MB of memory and proceeding with loading the OS (Win7x64). I've never had any weird BSOD issues and never done any OC (on CPU, RAM nor VGA).
    The present:
Problem is that, now, with the Q9550, system wont POST with all four of the 1GB sticks plugged; it stops/freezes at ~3316MB (if I hit ESC or DEL during RAM-sweep it blacks out and goes off-power)  before the "beep". Needless to say that I can't even access the BIOS menu in this configuration. Removing one 1GB stick, specifically from slot #2 (counting from the CPU), thus running at 3x1GB, allows for normal boot. In this configuration, the new CPU model is properly recognized by both POST and BIOS, but the CPU multiplier is reported wrongly in the BIOS settings (x7 instead of x8.5), just like it "remembers" my old CPU's setting. How can I check, within the OS, that the frequency is the right one? Many programs report it correctly (e.g. CPU-ID or Windows), but there's the chance that they're just stating the nominal spec of the CPU model...
Any clues on how to address these two problems?
    My (small) troubleshooting:
I am wearing the latest official BIOS, version 1.C (or 1.12, dated 2009-12-30), that hasn't given me any cause to worry about, in the last 3 years.
The system worked fine before (w the E6550 CPU) on the 4x1GB RAM, so I am kinda excluding the case of a "bad" slot or stick. I haven't (and don't wanna) undertake the tedious task of trying all possible permutations of 4 slots & 4 sticks. Please note that the RAM sticks are same brand, size and frequency, but the model-numbers might not be exactly the same (one pair was bought in 2007, the other in 2011).
When booting with 3x1GB RAM, and running some benchmarks from the OS (PassMark PerformanceTest, Prime95) reveals that CPU is working fine. Only problem is that its temps are a little on the hot-side (40-45C@idle, 65C+@load, at ~25C+ ambient, on stock cooler) and the CPU benchmark scores are 5-10% below the average-baseline; however, these issues worry me not because the CPU was used (got it from eBay for $90).
My PSU is a 550W HEC, and the rest of my system comprises a HD4850/1GB VGA, two HDDs (WDs, one of them a "green"), one SSD (Intel/60GB) and a DVD-writer.
    Any ideas?
I am hoping that there's some BIOS tweak I can make in order to re-recognize all my RAM with the least possible hardware changes and operations. Maybe re-flash the current BIOS, or try to roll-back a version? Will tweaking the RAM settings (voltages, freqs) help any? Is that do-able on the P35 board? My last (money-costing) option is going for new 2x2GB RAM sticks, which I evidently want to avoid...
    Thanks for your help!

OK, I've had some time in the weekend and I did my tests, that seem successful Yay!
    A. New CPU multiplier mis-identification in BIOS (7x instead of 8.5x) -- This was fixed by clearing the CMOS (as RemusM suggested, using the on-board button) and then "Loading Optimized Defaults" by the main BIOS menu. Apart from the time/date and boot-order, the only other thing I had to change was the On-Chip ATA Devices RAID mode (enable AHCI), to allow the SSD drive where my OS is stored to boot normally.
    B. POST stopping with 4x1GB RAM sticks -- The above BIOS-related changes didn't help here. So, I undertook the task of checking each RAM stick alone with MemTest86 (as XFM suggested). To this end, I plugged each stick in Slot#1 (DIMM_A1) and no errors were found, for a one-pass test, for all four sticks; evidently, my RAM sticks were fine. I then tried some permutations of the four sticks and the four slots and, lo and behold, one of them, worked! Please note that my four RAM sticks were purchased in two kits of 2x1GB, that were equal brand/size/frequency and the serial numbers were almost the same (apart from the last 2-3 digits in a series of 10-15 characters). The sticks looked similar even to the bare eye (very similar PBC "routes", chip placement etc). The only difference was the date, 2007-vs-2011.
For what it's worth, the non-working combination was:
       DIMM_A1 : Kit#1 (2007) / Stick#1
       DIMM_A2 : Kit#2 (2011) / Stick#1
       DIMM_B1 : Kit#1 (2007) / Stick#2
       DIMM_B2 : Kit#2 (2011) / Stick#2
    while the working combination is:
       DIMM_A1 : Kit#2 (2011) / Stick#1
       DIMM_A2 : Kit#2 (2011) / Stick#2
       DIMM_B1 : Kit#1 (2007) / Stick#1
       DIMM_B2 : Kit#1 (2007) / Stick#2
(i.e. the two sticks of the same kit were placed in the same RAM Channel slots: the Green and the Orange)
Nevertheless, one mystery remains unsolved: In the fast-sweep of the RAM during the POST, the check still stops/pauses at ~3320MB but, fortunately, it proceeds to sweep the entire 4096MB and then boot the OS normally! The duration of this "pause" is maybe a little longer than it used to with the old CPU: it now last up to one full second while it use to pause for only a fraction of a second. I can't help but correlate this pause location (at ~3300MB) with the maximum RAM that is "recognized" by 32-bit OS...
Anyway, thanks for all your help! Hopefully this thread might help other guys with similar problems.

  • Ram on p35 platinum combo

    hello guys
    i have 2 x 1gb kingston 800mhz sticks and one 2gb kingston 800mhz stick
all cl5(but the 2gb smaller in size!!) , i know this setup doesn't run in dual channel but why cpu-z showing that it does ?!
and is the difference between 4gb single and dual channel significant ?And if im going to oc my cpu
should three sticks prevent me from overclocking ?!
should i go and buy 2x2 or stik with what i have (which i may do since i cant sell them !!!! )

It can very well be true that the system is operating in Dual Channel Mode.  The main functional criteria is that both channels have to be populated with an equal amount of memory (not the same amount of memory modules). The modules all need to have the same density, of course, however, not the same capacity.  Even though 2x512MB + 1x1GB can cause stability problems in some cases (if the chips on the modules differ significantly), this does not always have to be the case.
    http://www.intel.com/support/motherboards/desktop/sb/cs-011965.htm
    Quote
Dual channel mode is enabled when the installed memory capacities of both DIMM channels are equal.
    Quote
Single channel (Asymmetric) mode. This mode is equivalent to single channel bandwidth operation for real world applications. This mode is used when only a single DIMM is installed or the memory capacities are unequal.

  • P35 Platinum Combo Turbo Memory Stick

Alright, I've had this board for over a year and a half now, but just recently upgraded CPU's from a Pentium D 930 to a core 2 Quad Q9650.
Here's my dilemma. When I took everything apart, cleaned it with compressed air and put it back together with the new CPU, I noticed I was missing one of the "turbo memory sticks" that comes only with this mobo (as far as I know). I tried looking for it, but it turns out that my roommate chucked it in the garbage (douche).
Since this tragedy I have been searching different websites, looking to see if it's even possible to pick one up by itself, and have had no luck. I'm stuck using 2gigs of ram until I can find a replacement.
    Any suggestions?
PS. Here's a pic of the stick I'm talkin' about

Bios v1.3, and even my PC wont display anything, the CPU fan is working the LEDs are on inside the cabinet. But its like the Screen gets no signal. I tried with Single stick and still no results. However it works fine with DDR2 ram. Please some1 suggest a solution.

  • Vista64 bit takes 10 minutes to load on p35 Platinum Combo

I had a lot of troubles installing Vista64 until I disconnected all sata devices except for the boot drive then it installed perfectly.
The problem I am having is that takes 10 to 15 minutes to boot, all that time is when it is on the screen with bar moving across the screen.
I could post this elsewhere I think but I am thinking that it is a problem with something to do with the hardware as I have to disconnect all devices when I install XP as well
Any help would be greatly appreciated

What optical drive do you have? Is it sata, if you have an optical drive try and make sure there is no cd in there.

  • P35 Platinum Combo won't restart

I have this problem with my pc that has just started about 2 days ago.  When I reboot the computer it closes down ok but at the stage when it starts booting nothing happens (it doesn't shut down) it just doesn't go any further, the montor has the little box coming up flashing between analogue and digital and then stops as well. if the dvd burner was open it used to close automatically and now it doesn't
Pressing the reset button fixes the issue, which is what I have to do everytime I restart.
    Any help would be appreciated

Do you have another graphics card to test?
You can also try resitting your graphics card.

  • Ballistix pc4000 ddr 500 running @ ddr 214 - help please?

    k8n neo2 plat bios ver 1.3
    3200 winchester
2x512 ballistix pc 4000 ddr sdram in slots 1+3
    Hi
Im hoping someone will be able to help. I cannot get this memory to run at anything more than a ddr clock of 107 (214 ddr) when i set the timing to 'auto' on the memlock. Cpu-z says this speed but also has '256 clocks' in the 'dram idle timer' in its memory tab (meant to be 16 clocks im sure).
Ive messed around with it for ages trying to get it to work and have just received various error sounds and messages causing me to have to reset the cmos numerous times just to be able to get back in.
I can get it to work if i lock the memlock at 200 but this is causing it to run at only pc3200 (ddr 400) speed, not to mention giving me the inability to overclock it at all. Timings are set at what the memory is meant to run ddr 500 at - 2.5-4-8-4 (but im only sticking 2.7 volts through it, from stated 2.8, as it's running slower).
The crucial tool said it would work fine, the spec of the memory and board indicate that they're compatible with each other, and several people in the thread on this site are using it (1 person @ 235 fsb) - so i seem to think that i may be missing something.
Also, each stick of the memory works fine on it's own, got it to ddr 440 without flinching (220 fsb... ), and stable, no crashes or nothing - hours of use and numerous benchmarking. But 2 sticks just sends the ddr clock back to 107 unless i lock the memlock.
I've run memtest whilst locking the memlock at 200 and it showed no errors. Im going to do the same thing overnight tonight with the ddr clock knackered at 107 - see what shows up.
My other memory works fine - 2x512 2700 kingstonX.
    Can anyone help? Much thanks

    Try a BIOS upgrade.
Maybe it's no coincidence that my OCZ 3500EB was also limited to 214 mhz on my K8N Neo (not Neo2) with BIOS 1.4. Both sets of RAM use ICs made by Micron so perhaps it's no coincidence (not to say they're exactly the same.  They're not.)
Upping to beta BIOS 1.52, 1.55, or 1.56 fixes things for me.
Maybe for the Neo2 you should try beta 1.36 or 1.37 then? Worth a try.  I believe that K8N Neo BIOS 1.4 and K8N Neo2 BIOS 1.3 are total clunkers.
    Good luck...

When you see a beachball cursor or the slowness is especially bad, note the exact time: hour, minute, second.
These instructions must be carried out as an administrator. If you have only one user account, you are the administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
Each message in the log begins with the date and time when it was entered. Scroll back to the time you noted above.
Select the messages entered from then until the end of the episode, or until they start to repeat, whichever comes first.
Copy the messages to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of it useless for solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.
Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.
Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.

  • EMac crashing more & more often (possible RAM problem?). Help, please!

My eMac is a year and a half old, and the screen began to suddenly freeze up about a week ago. I first noticed the problem when playing back DVDs. After a minute or so, the screen would intermittently display a bunch of short, thin horizontal white lines along with the image, and then suddenly lock up; for a few seconds, I could still move the cursor, then that would freeze, too; the only thing that worked was to turn the power off and on again. The problem has been getting steadily worse since then. The freezing up seems to be triggered by anything that involves a lot of motion on the screen (moving a Quicktime, Windows Media Player, or VLC window around while a video is playing; using screensavers that involve a lot of motion, etc.). The white lines, however, only appear with the DVD player. Most recently, and more alarmingly, moving any window at all around, even a little bit, seems to trigger the problem, as do drop-down menus, adding bookmarks, etc.
Also, I've noticed that the problem is sometimes accompanied by a very "smeared" looking Dock, and if audio is playing at the time of the freeze it will often stutter.
After reading posts, both on this site and elsewhere, about similar problems, I've tried the hardware test on the disc that came with the computer. (Everything passed.) I've also reinstalled the OS, disconnected non-essential peripherals, repaired permissions, used the disc repair utliity (no repairs were needed), trashed a number of permssions as per advice on some websites -- all with no success. I've also spent the past week looking through the various logs and reports on the Console, but since my technical knowledge is extremely limited, this information has not been able to help me so far. Finally, there are several user accounts in my family, and this problem does not seem to be confined to any one of them.
Today, I ran memtest (www.memtestosx.org) to test my memory, and one of the 3 test sequences gave me the following error message:
    "Bit Flip: testing 1FAILURE: 0xfffffefe 1= 0xfffffffe at Offset 0x03261c93"
Could this be the problem? If so, what does it mean and how can it be corrected? (All of the other memory tests were o.k.)
I'm growing increasingly frustrated and worried as this problem worsens, and I'd be grateful for any advice.

I'd take one of the DIMMs out of the eMac and test again. If you get the error, the DIMM in the eMac is bad. Replace it. If you don't, that DIMM is probably still good. In either case, take it out and test with the other DIMM. If you get the error, then the other DIMM is probably bad. If both DIMMs show the error, you may have had two bad DIMMs (unlikely, but possible) or the test may be in error. At that point you might want to run Apple's hardware tester, which ships with each Mac. (With older machines, it was a separate CD. With newer machines, it's on the DVD.) If Apple's tester says you have bad RAM, you have bad RAM. Replace it. If Apple's tester says that you have good RAM, but the problems continue, I'd take it in for repair... or just buy new RAM and have done. Most eMac 1.25s andn all 1.42s can handle up to 1GB (Apple's official stance) in two 512MB sticks, or 2GB (reality) in two 1GB sticks.

  • Unable to run Memory profiling, help please

    Hi there,
I installed the lastest version of JDeveloper 10 and created a very simple project(only have one class with Main()method) for testing purpose.
I configure the Profiler in Project Properties page, setting the class as included instance, however, all those profiling menu items(e.g.: Memory Profile...) are greyed out and I am unable to run memory profiling.
I wonder if the functions are available for the free-downloaed version of JDeveloper, or is there something wrong with my setting?
    Your help is highly appreciated.

Make sure you are positioned on the class in the application navigator before going to the "run" menu option.
Also does it work if you don't change anything in the project properties?
Here is what I did - created a new project with a simple hello class. And I didn't had any problems profiling it.
There is no function limitation on the version you downloaded.
Here is the class I tried:
    public class Class1
    public Class1()
    public static void main(String[] args)
    Class1 class1 = new Class1();
    System.out.println("hello");
    }
