P35 Platinum Fan control

how to control the speed of the sys fans? with Dual Core Center it is impossible, how to make?

What?.....this is just mindblowingly annoying.
All boards I have owned for the last 8 years have been able to control fan speeds. I didn't even consider the possibility that that this essential feature could be lacking when I bought the P35 Platinum
I was going to recommend this board to a friend, but without software fan control the board is almost useless in my opinion.
Please never make a board in this way again...ever.

  • K8N Neo4 Platinum - Fan control missing?

    Good evening.
I've recently assembled an Athlon 64 3000 (Venice) / Neo4 Platinum system, and unfortunatly I am not able to control the speed of any fan connected to the motherboard. Also disappointing is the fact that four fans are connected, but only three show in Speedfan.
My CPU cooler is Thermaltake's Venus 12, so it's not MB-controlable.
My Enermax 120mm fan connects using the usual 3-wire connection, and has an RPM knob integrated. It doesn't seem to respond to Speedfan no matter what the state of the knob is.
Last but not least is the noisy chipset fan, which shows but also doesn't respond to Speedfan.
There's also a 92mm Enermax fan which is connected the same way as the 120mm one, but doesn't show.
I've only found two BIOS settings that were said to be relevant - Cool'n'Quiet and CPU Fan Target. Both had no effect. I did no find a NB Fan Target setting that some people reported having.
CoreCenter seems uselss. It doesn't change anything regarding the chipset fan, and I didn't find any "Temp Alarm" setting for the chipset, that was also mentioned here at some time. Tried uninstalling it as well (probably with a restart, I don't remember), but it doesn't seem to have had an impact on the fan control issue.
So essentialy, what I've got are four fans connected, three of those showing, two of these that can theoretically be adjusted through software, one that's too damn noisy at more than 7500 RPM, and zero that I can actually through software.
And no, a Zalman Fanmate is not a solution after I've invested in this top-of-the-line MB. I expect to get what I've paid for.
Is there a solution to this problem, once and for all?

To get to the CoreCenter Temp alarms, you have to expand the right 'wing' (click little arrow); but this only sets temperature below which an alarm will sound: it has no effect on fan speed itself.
But indeed, nothing on CoreCenter seems to affect NB fan.
The manual itself only mentions that CPUFAN1 supports fan control.
[Will eventually apply myself hardware solution for nb fan, either single resistor, as described elsewhere on this board, or with rheostat; if i can find a store where to buy fanmate2, that would be better (shipping/handling from net order would cost more than the darn thing!).]
@Flow: my case fan, connected to SFAN1, does show in Speedfan, even without CoreCenter lauchned (I removed it from StarUp list).
(However, i still have the AMD PowerNow! Technology Service, ie GemServ, enabled and started)

  • P45 Platinum fan control issue!

Ok i received a new MSI P45 Platinum board after my last one gave me nothing but problems and fried one of my Radeon Crossfire cards
Anyway the new one seems to be fine except one of my case fans seems sounds like it's spinning at full speed! I have case fans plugged into headers 1, 2 and 3 on the board and fans 1 and 2 can be controlled via the bios whilst fan 3 cannot! HWMonitor reports the correct fan speeds for 1 and 2 (running at 75%) and it tells me fan 3 is running at 50% but it's actually running faster and louder than the other 2!! With my old (faulty) P45 Platinum board the 3rd fan was quiet, but now it's very loud and i don't know why? I have the latest 1.6 bios installed as i did on my old board.
Can anyone explain what is happening? Cheers

I installed the latest MSI Dual Core center and now it's telling me system fan 2 RPM is too low! (keeps flashing)
CPU Fan =  around 1700 rpm
SYS Fan 1 = around 1200 rpm (set to 75% in bios)
SYS Fan 2 = around 700 rpm (set to 75% in bios)
I'm not happy with this board... My last P45 Platinum had memory/CPU/PCI-E voltage issues but the fan speeds were perfect! And now this replacement motherboard has ok voltages but the fan speeds are screwed! Both boards are the same revision using the same bios and had the same system config.
HWMonitor is still reporting fan 3 at 50% although it's literally screaming! Can someone please give me any suggestions as to whats wrong? Also does anyone have the latest beta bios (v1.7b10 i think). Cheers

  • P6N Platinum Fan Control?

In my attempt to further silence my computer I bought a AC Freezer 7 Pro to replace the stock Intel HSF. After I installed it I started the computer and the fan was spinning at 2700rpm I was able to slow it down to 1700rpm(28db) using the Dualcorecenter utility but I wish to slow it down further down to about 1300rpm(20db).
-How do I lower the fan speed even more? (or manually lower the voltage to 9v ish)
-Can fan speeds be controlled under Bios, or am I stuck having to run Dualcorecenter all the time even though I don't get my desired fan speed.
-The stock intel fan throttled up and down according to temperature. Is the AC not capable of doing that?
So far I'm not satisfied with the AC at all. At 1700rpm the AC is just as loud as my stock intel hsf which ran at 2100, and my idle temps are only down about 1 degree celcius. (Just my $.02/buyer beware)

Under the hardware monitor under bios I can only set the "smart cpu target" which doesn't do me any good. I was actually able to lower the fan speed down to 1100 minimum using the speedfan program, but I still find it kind of annoying because I have to leave it on and the fan doesn't throttle according to temperature
My heatsink is actually well seated and installed but the temps at idle dont change no matter how fast the fan is running? My e6600 is stock and at 1300rpm it runs at 30c idle/47c load(orthos). At 2700rpm it runs 29c idle/ 45c load. Besides the fact that it is quiet, the temps are pretty much identical to my old Stock intel hsf running at 2100rpm. I guess I can't complain as I got it for 29 USD shipped. Perhaps your great results are due to your cpu being overclocked. What are your exact temperatures
I have another question along with my previous three. Is the P6N unable to power the hard drives down during inactivity? I set the hard drives to power down after 45 minutes of idleness but none of them do. On my other vista machines the hard drives power down just fine. Thanks

  • Fan control P35 Plat. Combo

I'm new to MSI product.. So far I'm very pleased with my purchase..
I can't seem to figure out how to adjust my system fans.. My fans are able to be adjusted and were adjusted to lower speeds on my other (non MSI) motherboards..
I've tried using the limited adjustment found on the H/W bios page, but nothing changed..
I've tried adjusting them VIA the 'Dual Core Center' and nothing happens, I hit up or down and it won't change..
I've tried to load the sidebar utility and it fails to load.. IDK why this is.. I've tried to install from the CD and the Website and neither version will work..
Really the only thing I am wanting to take care of right now is the System fans.. They are loud at full power.. Is there a way to slow them down from the bios or utility?
    Thanks

    Hello ATIonion,
does the automatic CPU Fan regulation work properly?
How many system fans do you have installed and which of the SYSFan-headers did you use for each one of them?
Automatic CPU fan Reg.. ?? I'm not sure I know what you're refering to
As for the SysFan headers I am using 1,2,3, and 5.. 4 is the only one not being used.. In addition to this I should say that I have no control over my CPUfan speeds either..
    Thanks for any help...

  • P35 Neo - Sys Fan control

I have a P35 Neo and recently i bought a cooler and a fan for my Ati4850.I connected the fan to the Sys Fan 1 but to my dissapointment i cant control the rpm of the fan through the Dual core center .
I took a look at Bios but i couldnt find anything useful.
    Do i miss something ?
I even download Speedfan but didnt help .

I don't know of any that would have fan speed control for anything other than CPU fan. The only thing I can suggest would be to purchase a fan control module of some kind that goes in an empty drive bay. Something like >> this <<

  • MSI P35 Platinum - No fans so no additional Cooling Needed?

    Hello,
With the idea of supporting a quiet but powerful system, I had intended to buy the MSI 875X Platinum, but I just saw the new passively cooled MSI P35 Platinum.    Can I really get by using the MSI P35 Platinum with no fans or additional cooling, running:
    -Core 2 Duo E6600 Conroe Processor 2.4GHz, 1066FSB
    -4GB Corsair TWIN2X2048-6400 DDR2-800
-MSI GeForce 8600 GTS NX8600GTS-T2D256EZ-HD Video Card
-Zalman ZM600-HP HeatPipe Cooled 600w PSU
I won't be overclocking; I'd just like an updated, quiet system with power to spare; will be used for photoshop.
    Any other comments?  Thx.
    Scott

Good suggestion; I was unaware of the SilenX Fans, but I reviewed and get the idea--they are excellent for low noise applications, and this is exactly what I want!   Thx.
    Scott
For those who don't know the Antec P180/P182 has the PSU in a separate chamber at the bottom of the case so it can chuck the cpu's heat straight out of two 120mm fans in top and rear.   There is also a 3rd 120mm fan in lower chamber blowing onto the PSU.   All three Antec fans are fitted with HI-Med-Low switches.  I find Low to be good.
120mm fans push a decent amount of air on low RPM and are much quieter than 90mm.
There is room to fit two more of your own fans on the Upper HD cage.   One to draw air in from the front of the case and one that blows straight on the graphics card.  If you use both at once it creates a wind tunnel but means you cannot use it for hard drives.  Although you could just fit the front fan and have it blow across your HD.   I have my disks in the lower chamber to keep their heat away from the motherboard, and have done the wind tunnel option.
If I could change one thing I would have bought slower RPM  or adjustable extra fans because they are louder than the built in Antec fans.
    Hope this makes sense lol.
To be honest, you don't really need the extra fans if silence is more important, but my room is very warm and I plan to overclock.

  • Faulty MSI Intel P35 Platinum motherboard

Hi i am building new pc but i seem to have problem with MSI Motherboard.
    My PC Specs as follows:
Ocz Game Xstream 600w Power Supply
    MSI Intel P35 Platinum motherboard
    Intel E6750 Processor
MSI Nvidia 8800GT NX 512mb ddr
    Geil Ultra DDR2 2.0GB PC6400 Dual Channel memory kit (2 x 1GB) 800MHz (4-4-4-12) +Aluminium heat spreader
500GB Seagate Barracuda SATA II 300 7200rpm 16mb cache Hard Drive oem
    COOLERMASTER case
Now i put everything in place and connect the power supply to the motherboard, however it wouldn't start. I know many of you will say PSU is faulty but its not, i already been on OCZ forums and i have done all the tests including jump start and it works 100%. However when i take off  2 - 4 pin CPU1 and CPU2 connector from motherboard, The pc starts but no sceen, when i put them on the pc won't start. I took it to PC repair shop to have all parts tested, they said motherboard is not working. Did any1else had a same problem, if not please help me resolve this issue. THanks.

I had a problem with my original P35 where the CPU fan control didn't work.  Fan would spin, but it never registered speed.  CPU would get to 70c at idle.  Got a replacement MB and fan speed registered and temp was at about 30c @ idle.
RMA the motherboard.  Depending on where you got it from you'll be up and running in 10 days.
OH!!!! VERY IMPORTANT.  Do NOT reuse the heatsink compound which is now on the CPU and the heatsink.  Scrape it off both, use Isopropyl Alcohol to clean the residue off both.  After you get your new MB, apply NEW compound to the top of the CPU.  Then seat the heatsink on.

  • P35 Platinum: I have to press the power button multiple times to start

    Hello fellow MSI customers,
as written in the subject, I have a problem with starting my PC. When I press the power button, the computer powers on, but there is no output to the screen. In fact, my LCD stays in standby mode. I can hear the fans running, so something is going on. According to the LEDs on the mainboard, it is a memory problem.
Now I turn the computer off, using the power button (have to hold it for a few seconds). When off, I start again and everything runs as it should.
After starting, I ran memtest86 multiple times without any errors. I ran a few games, compiled some programs, installed Vista 64bit, Linux, all without any crashes or hangups. It is just the starting that makes problems. After booting it is very stable.
Seeing that it could be a memory problem, I brought another pair of memory, just to be sure. I couldn't reproduce the problem on that day! Any type of memory I put in (the one before, or the newly brought home) the computer always started on the press of the button. So I thought, OK, maybe they were not seated correctly. But, alas, two days later it is again only starting by pressing the power button three times.
     What I tried:
     1. Boot using only 1 piece of memory stick
     2. Boot using only 1 piece of memory, but different one
     3. Use another pair of memory   <-  worked, but on that day it also worked using my original memory
     4. Disconnected everything except graphics card, to make sure it is not a power supply issue (minimized power usage)
     5. Tried all of the above with a different processor
     6. Used another power supply
    Any other ideas?
    Here are my specs:
    MSI P35 platinum
    Core2 Q6600
    Nvidia 7900GT
    4GB V-Data DDR2 800MHz      <--- I think this is the problem, any experiences?
    Enermax Liberty 400W
a few other things (HDDs, XFi, DVD-RW)
By the way, how can I boot from an external DVD-RW? It doesn't show in the menu when I press F11 (boot menu).
Thank you for any help, muro
And just to let a bit of steam off:
    1. I had major problems with the RAID controller (not MSI fault, rather intel) - I put two disks into a RAID 0, then RAID 1 and they always failed after a few boots - member missing on both disks. I was getting angry, so I put them as normal (non RAID) disks and everything is fine since, although no RAID.
    2. Installing anything except windows with an IDE DVD-RW is very hard. It took me ages until I got Ubuntu booting (there are guides on the net, google is your friend), and much longer to get grub (boot loader) working. Long story short - if you have multiple disks, use the Linux disk as the bootable, do NOT put grub on the disk where Vista is installed.
    3. I have no idea, how to update the BIOS, if I had to. I'm using 1.1 that came on the board. I use 64bit Vista and Linux, none of which is supported to upgrade the BIOS. Any hints how to do it (if I needed to)?

    Hello,
now today is the day I've finally received my replacement board. The good news first - it DOES work! Yepeeee!
     Now some more information:
The jmicron controller seems to be missing - a screen with something about "Marvel" is shown before the intel raid screen. However, it is only visible for a fraction of second, so I cannot read it. I think it detects my IDE DVD-RW so I'm quite certain it's the replacement for jmicron. I won't miss it - it took me ages to install Linux with the jmicron controller.
The problem where I had to restart the computer sometimes because it didn't even post (RAM error) is gone. It boots just fine now.
I had an extremely long first post - about a minute, but after that it boots very fast now.
anyway, regarding some questions around here - the manual states MSI recommends using an 350W power supply. My 400W is more than enough. Please note - it is an Enermax, not one bundled with a cheap case. My cheap RAM sticks also work very well now. I did try them on different boards before, so now I know I just had a faulty board.
In the end, I can only say this: This is my 3rd board already and it's the first one that works well. As the hardware changed, I presume there were major issues with this board that lead them to make a new revision. What is strange, though, is that the revision is still 1.1, as were my previous two. I pity everybody who had the same problems as I did, but I can now say that I'm very happy about the board now.
     Cheers, muro

  • Is P35 Platinum Combo compatible with Windos 8?

I never imagined when I bought Windows 8 that my pc might be too old but looking at the driver supprot page for my P35 Platinum Combo makes me think now that I should not be using Windows 8.  My pc has been having problems every since I installed Windows 8 on a new drive.   For a while it would often crash/auto restart.  Then things were ok for a while.  Now, in the past week, my pc is really slow.  Simple things like opening file explorer take a very long time.  Surprisingly, in safe mode my pc runs faster.
Video Driver is up to date and has been since I installed Win 8  (radeon 13.1)
    board drivers up to date
    malware/adware/virus scanned
running with only an ssd drive.  80gb free space on a 160gb drive
followed ssd drive tweaks such as indexing off, prefetching off, maintenance off, RAC off, etc...
minimized virtual memory to better use my 8gb ram
Just wondering what others think about running Windows 8 on this motherboard of mine.  My specs are:
    P35 Platinum Combo  (msi.com/product/mb/P35-Platinum-Combo.html)
    Intel E8400  (ark.intel.com/products/33910/Intel-Core2-Duo-Processor-E8400-6M-Cache-3_00-GHz-1333-MHz-FSB)
    Intel X25-M SATA Solid State Drive - 160 GB, 2.5 inches (ark.intel.com/products/56603/Intel-SSD-X25-M-Series-160GB-2_5in-SATA-3Gbs-50nm-MLC)
    Kingston 8gb DDR 2 800
    Saphire HD 7850
    P.s.
Can't post complete links since this is my first post.

USER-HOSTILE!  Hahaha!  Hilarious vid  I can sympathize with the author.  I'm a fairly seasoned user and while I did manage to figure out all the controls, after much googling, I still had to deal with all the crashing and slow downs.
Well I decided not to waste any more time and reverted back to windows 7.  All is perfectly functional now and at a nice healthy speed.  I think my hardware was just too old for Windows 8 since my friends pc is running fine in Windows 8.  Granted...  He hates the interface and is now jealouse that I'm back to Windows 7, haha.
Now to create my next catastrophe!  Updating my bios.  lol.  I noticed that the most recent version will provide support for L2 cache which would be nice since it seems my proccessor has that ability.
Thanx so much for your response Bernhard.

  • Help P35 platinum problems

Hi, I'm new in the forum.
I have bought a p35 platinum about three weeks ago, it is fantastic and I like it very much, but I have some problems with it.
If I list them, could you help me??
    My complete configuration is:
    mb: msi p35 platinum;
    processor: Q6600 (without O.C.);
    ram 4x1gb team elite ram 800mhz;
    video: ati 2600xt 512mb gddr3;
. At first, the motherload's bios colour was black, but suddenly it became classic blue. Now it's blue yet. Is it normal?
. When I turn on the Pc it a emits "beep"(that should be a sign of bad operation of the AMI bios).
. The bios read 3.25gb of ram, but I've installed 4gb.
. dual core center inform me that the CPU fan is 0, while, it goes on spinning. (it happens often)
. A lot of programs, like Sandra or Everest 2007, read the chipset ICH9 instead of ICH9R.
. Live Update crash when it looks for bios versions.
. After installing the bios 1.3 the start is more slowly, besides there is a screened where I can read the marvel component. unfortunately I can read just this, then I will try to do a screen.
    PS:
Despite of I had this problems, I go on loving my magic motherload. I hope you will help me, because I don't know what to do.
My O.s. is Windows vista Ultimate.

    3. My O.S. is 32 bit vista ultimate and my O.S. too read 3,2gb of ram but, also when the O.S wasn't istalled on my PC, my platinum p35 read anyway 3,5gb that could be utilized and 4gb installed.
    Read here:

You need a 64bit operating system to make use of all 4gb of ram.

    It means everything is OK.

  • P35 Platinum rebooting problem

    Hello,
I have just registered at MSI Forums, as i have quite strange problem with my PC and i need help :azn:
    My specs:
    Motherboard : MSI P35 Platinum, bios ver1.9
CPU : Intel Core 2 Duo e6600 coolde with Thermalright Ultra 120a + Zalman 120mm fan
    Memory: Mushkin XP2-6400 2 GB CL4-4-3-10
    VGA : Inno3D 8800gts 512 with Accelero s2 rev2 + 2 Silverstone 90mm fans
    HDD : Seagate 160GB SATA
    Optical : Liteon DVDRW LDW-851S
PSU : Tagan TG430-U22 (i am running it at 'combined rails' mode, which has 28A rating for the 12v rail-information from the sticker)
I also have 3 120mm fans mounted in case
I have Windows XP SP2 installed
I took attempt to overclock my cpu and memory, and i managed to get 3.4ghz for cpu and 972mhz for memory (486FSB ; CPU Multipliter 7 ; RAM timings 5,5,5,15 ; RAM voltage 2,0v ; CPU voltage 1.4125v ; VTT FSB voltage AUTO ; NB voltage 1.45v ; SB I/O power 1.8v ; SB core power 1.15v), i am able to run Orthos Blend test (stressing cpu and memory) for about 8 hours (so it's pretty stable I think)
So, let's get to the point:
I am able to run my PC flawlessly all day long, but when i try to turn it on next day, it keeps rebooting itself for few minutes (it turns for about 10 seconds but the screen stays black, then it turns off and turns on again.....LEDS keep showing red/red/green/red indicating memory problem) and finally boots with 'overclocking failed' information.............i get to the bios, change ABSOLUTELY NOTHING, save settings (or not save..it doesn't matter at all) and then it boots and loads Windows no problem.......... what the heck is wrong?? Is it memory problem? Or maybe PSU? (I was using it in my previous PC)
    Any suggestions ?  :azn:
    Thanks in advance

  • Cannot get out of standby - P35 Platinum

    Hello everyone,
I recently build myself a new rig, featuring a nice and shiny new P35 Platinum board. Here are the system specs:
    MSI P35 Platinum - BIOS version 1.4
    OCZ GameXStream SLI/Active 600W
    Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 2.4Ghz overclocked to 2.88 (FSB 320)
    2x 1GB 1066Mhz PC-8500 Kingston HyperX RAM (5-5-5-15) no overclock there
    2x Seagate Barracuda 320GB in RAID 0
Sapphire Radeon HD2900XT, 512M etc etc
    Some IDE NEC DVD+/-RW Drive
Here comes the problem. I put my system on standby, and down it went. I restarted it once, booted into Windows Vista Home Premium, 32bit without a problem. Then I turned it off again and went away for a few hours. I came back, started the machine and... nothing. At least not on the screen: it tells me that it's not receiving a signal. All the fans are spinning, and I hear a normal, single post beeb. I opened the case, and saw led3 was constantly shining. I don't know if this was the case before the problem turned up, I never bothered to look at it. The status leds on the board have shown me varying stuff, I got all greens once, and I believe it booted to windows on that occasion. I also got it green-red-red-green once, but that pattern didn't come back. I tried to clear cmos with the button, system powered down etc etc (which didn't help), and now I'm getting green-green-red-green (searching for a floppy drive), and it's not booting to windows anymore. Which seems logical after clearing cmos, because in standard bios settings, the Intel RAID controller is disabled, so it can't find Windows anymore And now the big question... how on earth can I reset the board so that it doesn't think its standby anymore, without any display support? It seems unlikely there's a defect in the graphics card or the psu doesn't supply enough juice; the rig ran just fine the other day (also on heavy gaming/video processing).
Please help me out, o great MSI forum experts

It's really strange. On one hand, the status leds indicate the system boots normally, it even booted into Vista once (heard the vista starting sound), but on the other hand, there's NOTHING on the display. Everything seems to work just fine, except for the fact that I'm not seeing anything before the problem arose, I booted several times with the memory installed. I experienced absolutely no problems at all. I also tried to boot with only one stick, didn't solve the problem. But I will try it with a 6400 stick. I just wish I'd never ever put the stupid thing on standby. I'm thinking of an S1 / S3 problem myself. Is it possible the videocard still thinks the entire system is on S3 standby and therefore refuses to output anything to the screen? I didn't adjust any of the settings in the power management section of the bios when I still had visual access to it, by the way.

  • P35 Platinum - will not POST

    Hi all,
PC has been stable for nearly 2 years now.  Problem started after a clean install of Vista 64-bit, while installing updates (had software problems, so clean install).
After one set of updates the PC hung while trying to shut down Windows for a restart - sat at the shutting down screen for a couple of hours.
Eventually I shut down by holding the power button.
On restart I wanted to enter Safe mode, so was trying to hit F1, but the machine seemed to be stuck on the logo screen - F1 doing nothing, Del doing nothing, tab doing nothing, so I restarted the PC again.
On reboot this time the fans span up, then immediately machine went into a reboot loop, every 3 seconds or so.
Checked diagnostic LEDs - first RRRR, then machine rebooted and gave RRGR - memory test, then reboot to RRRR, RRGR, etc.
I reset CMOS and dumped all but one RAM chip - still no post, blank screen etc, but now the diag LEDs go to RRGG (decompressing BIOS to RAM), and nothing else happens except I get a single beep every 10 seconds or so.
I've tried changing the single RAM chip, tried in different RAM slots, changed the PSU, but still the same.
    Any advice please?
    Thanks all

I almost certainly flashed to the latest BIOS when building the PC (September 2007)
When it September? Do you remember that?  There were some serious issues with memory compatibility in BIOS v1.3 (released in July 2007) which were finally fixed in v1.5 (2007-09-28)).  If you are using v1.3 or v1.4 your current problem may have to do with that memory bug.  The symptoms were precisely the same and it sometimes happened that everything ran perfectly fine until the problem was triggered by a certain event.  The solution was ususally to install a DDR2-667 memory stick and then update the BIOS to the latest version.

At this stage I'm thinking either the CPU or the motherboard is dead...
Not necessarely.  Try a DDR2-667 memory stick (an old but functional 256MByte stick would be enough) and see if that changes anything.  If it does not, please hook up an internal floppy drive to the board and a PS/2 keyboard and follow this procedure using the latest BIOS Release:
