P35 Platinum Over 500 FSB problems

As I stated in the subject, I'm having problems getting over the 500 fsb even at 6x multiplier with my E6320 is it the cpu or the mainboard ?  any help appreciated.  Enclosed is a file of my system.

  • P35 Platinum Corsair C4 Memory problems

    Just recieved my brand new P35 Mboard, E6850 CPU, 4Gb Corsair XMS2 6400C4 Ram.  Imagine my horror when the system wouldn't even POST!!!  Took out two ram sticks and eventually got to bios. Changed the date & time and rebooted, would POST. Had to clear the CMOS to get to bios again.  However it will not POST every time.  The board came with v1.3 bios installed.
    Is this a familiar problem? Based on all the various thread I have read lots of people have experinced the same.  Should I flash the bios to v1.1, but will that support my E6850?
    Or can I try some C5 ram, manually change settings and replace with my new ram running at C5 clock speeds?

    As it seems is the AUTO setting for the RAM. At least thats the case for the 1.4b3 version but I think its why all bioses from 1.2 and up have problems with ram.
    Just set the ram divider manually don't let the AUTO setting.

    I imagine if I am a president of a big brazilian PC manufacturer, because the sells of computers in Brazil in that year beats any market in world, and then I see all this bullshit happening from MSI side, then I turn my attention on Gigabyte or Asus (they too act on OEM market and give more attention to your customers).

  • Msi P35 platinum: bios auto-raises NB & SB voltages when fsb over 316

    Why does this happen when I'm overclocking FSB in bios and reaching over 316, NB voltage goes 1.250V->1.450V and SB I/O Power 1.5V->1.8V automatically. Both are in red text after this.
    Of course, I can try to lower these settings back to normal but never tried.. I've just left these raised voltage settings because everything is running fine (now E2140@2816MHz,352FSB). But are these settings safe (NB 1,45V and SB I/O 1,8V) ??
    I know that raising NB voltage is necessary when raising up FSB but SB I/O Power voltage?
    Should I try lower these voltages and see if my computer is still stable?
    I have bios v1.6, mobo msi p35 platinum rev1.1...
    Please help me

    this is probably due to overclock jumper's setting for FSB STRAP(200/266/333).
    With my Neo 2 Fr (pretty similar) about the same happen to me but at 382...then I moved the jumper to the 333 setting (see manual) and no more change in voltage of NB and SB over 382.
    If you do so, be careful on your setting before the change of position of the jumper as it automaticaly add 67 mhz to the FSB and so the system may not start because of too high cpu freq. Be careful also on memory multiplier (before the change set it to 1:1 or calculate the ram freq. (FSB+67 mhz and your memory multiplier)) as the system may not start because of the RAM.
    However even if it not start after 2-3 reboot it start in safe mode(as after OC) and you can change the settings.
    My advice:I think your cpu fsb by default is 200, if so and if you don't plan to go over 382 set the jumper to 266 (you should be ok with voltages until 382mhz of FSB.
    Always remember what said over about the +67 mhz on FSB when you move the jumper!!!!

  • Problem installing MSI P35 Platinum & MSI NX8600GT & windows XP

    I just bought my MSI P35 platinum mobo and MSI NX8600GT graphics card.
    Was trying to install XP on it.  During installation, got the following error message :
    A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.
    If this is the first time you've seen this Stop error screen, restart your computer.  If this appears again, follow these steps:
    Check to be sure you have adequate disk space.  If a driver is identified in the Stop message, disable the driver or check with the manufacturer for driver updates.  Try changing video adapters.
    Check with your hardware vendor for any BIOS updates.  Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing.  If you need to use safe mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer, press F8 to select Advanced Startup Options, and then select Safe Mode.

  • Problem OC P35 Platinum + 8GB of CL4 memory with Q6600

    Hi all!
    I just lost that 1000 words post from power outage, so bear with me if I'm more direct to the point.
    System:
    P35 Platinum BIOS 1.9B1  (Vcore:1.375V, VTT: 1.30V, NB:1.550V, SB: 1.8V) 417MHz FSB x 8 = 3336MHz
    Q6600 G0 2.4GHz @ 3.336GHz (42*C idle 68*C load)
    OCZ Memory (OCZ2RPR800C44GK x 2 : AKA CL4 HPC Reapers) PC2-6400 @ 800MHz (4-4-4-15) OC @ 960MHz (5-5-5-18) VDimm: 2.2V
    Geforce 8800GT 512 MB DDR3 (680MHz/1800MHz/1050MHz)
    OS: Vista Ultimate x64
    I try to push those memory sticks to 1000MHz.  To do this, 2 ways I know: up FSB to 500MHz with 1:1 ratio  or change ratio to 5:6 + up FSB to 417MHz.  I tried both and here are the results:
    Test the CPU OC = FSB: 417MHz x 8 = 3336MHz & RAM 834MHz (1:1) = 24 hours prime95 stable (small FFT)
    Test the memory = FSB: 417MHz x 7 = 2919MHz & RAM 1000MHz ratio 1:1.2 = 24 hours memtest86+ v2.01 AND 24 hours prime95 stable (blend test)
    Test them together = FSB: 417MHz x 8 = 3336MHz & RAM 1000MHz ratio 1:1.2 = memtest86+ stable (20 hours) but not prime95 stable.  At those settings, SuperPI 32M would finish only 50% of the time (not exact in round)
    I tried upping NB to 1.6V (Afraid to fry it), tried upping VTT FSB (What does that do...) to 1.4V-1.45V : no luck.
    I know that below 1.55V my 8GB setup is unstable (crashed prime blend test at 18 hours...)
    The other option is now trying with higher FSB. All those tests were done with 1.9B1 BIOS.  At 500MHz FSB, the board wouldn't even POST.  I then flashed the BIOS to 1.9B2 with success! I can now POST and boot with 500MHz FSB! I cannot load windows though which leaves me short of my goal. I tried some more conservative speed (470MHz FSB) and succeeded in loading Vista. Had a hard time thought, at that FSB speed, Vista was crawling and CPU and memory benches in Everest were about 50% lower than last stable benches.  Something was wrong.
    I was then wondering ways to boot Vista with 500MHz stable or make my two stable overclocks work together...
    I read a post from someone stating that MSI told him to use performance BIOS P09 because OCing 8GB was easier with that BIOS.  I did so.  I could not boot in Vista (without OC, at default settings) because of nvidia driver (was able to boot in safe mode).  I also read in that thread that BIOS P09 had problems with G92 videocards...  I wish I could read German (or danish, not sure) because (save the thread I mentioned) the only forums talking about performance BIOS are German MSI forums...
    I also read that BIOS after 1.3 are not good for OCing because of bad voltage regulation.  I would flash back to 1.3
    but the Q6600 Kentsfield is not supported before 1.6.
    So I'm asking help at the same time from this board and User mod BIOS, was not sure to which board my thread would belong.
    Thank you for you suggestions and/or advices concerning performance BIOS.

    Well, it seems that the CS4 settings where exactly the rated speed for the GEIL Ultra Dual Channel modules, it's just that the (100% safe) pre-programmed SPD speeds are slower than the official rated timings. GEIL tells about that with all of their newer products, so timings I entered where not illegal for the modules.

  • P35 Platinum rebooting problem

    I have just registered at MSI Forums, as i have quite strange problem with my PC and i need help :azn:
    My specs:
    Motherboard : MSI P35 Platinum, bios ver1.9
    CPU : Intel Core 2 Duo e6600 coolde with Thermalright Ultra 120a + Zalman 120mm fan
    Memory: Mushkin XP2-6400 2 GB CL4-4-3-10
    VGA : Inno3D 8800gts 512 with Accelero s2 rev2 + 2 Silverstone 90mm fans
    HDD : Seagate 160GB SATA
    Optical : Liteon DVDRW LDW-851S
    PSU : Tagan TG430-U22 (i am running it at 'combined rails' mode, which has 28A rating for the 12v rail-information from the sticker)
    I also have 3 120mm fans mounted in case
    I have Windows XP SP2 installed
    I took attempt to overclock my cpu and memory, and i managed to get 3.4ghz for cpu and 972mhz for memory (486FSB ; CPU Multipliter 7 ; RAM timings 5,5,5,15 ; RAM voltage 2,0v ; CPU voltage 1.4125v ; VTT FSB voltage AUTO ; NB voltage 1.45v ; SB I/O power 1.8v ; SB core power 1.15v), i am able to run Orthos Blend test (stressing cpu and memory) for about 8 hours (so it's pretty stable I think)
    So, let's get to the point:
    I am able to run my PC flawlessly all day long, but when i try to turn it on next day, it keeps rebooting itself for few minutes (it turns for about 10 seconds but the screen stays black, then it turns off and turns on again.....LEDS keep showing red/red/green/red indicating memory problem) and finally boots with 'overclocking failed' information.............i get to the bios, change ABSOLUTELY NOTHING, save settings (or not save..it doesn't matter at all) and then it boots and loads Windows no problem.......... what the heck is wrong?? Is it memory problem? Or maybe PSU? (I was using it in my previous PC)
    Any suggestions ?  :azn:

  • P35 Platinum Problem

    Update:
    Have not got standard memory yet so tried other options...
    Replaced floppy drive with one that I verified was working, but no change so floppy drive is ok. Another possibility ruled out.
    Reseated memory, floppy cable, graphics card multiple times, no result.
    Changed FSB jumper to 333 setting, no result. Changes back to 200, result!!! Booted to bios config multiple times. Some times I got 4 red leds though, in which case the system stopped and rebooted. Then booted to bios again. I decided to try again to reflash the bios to 1.1 using ctrl-home keys. This time it worked. Verified bios is now v1.1.
    Started getting cmos errors though. The bios gave me the option to reset to default values, when booting. I did this, and rebooted. The system stopped working again then, showing two green lights, two red. :(
    I reset the FSB jumpers to 333, turn system on/off, switched back to 200. Again, I found I could now boot to bios again.
    This is as far as I have got. Havenot been able to boot to OS yet. Any advice appreciated.
    Starting to think this is not just a bios issue.... :(

    Update:
    Before my last post, I had previously flashed the bios back to the original bios which originally worked for me (1.1, the version which came with the machine, got it from the web site), but I ended up with the same problems. Last thing I did that night, was flash the bios to 1.4b... bios, but seeming same problems reproduced.
    I was ready to return the motherboard on Saturday but curiosity got to me so I decided to follow Bosskillers advice and try out some other memory. Not that I doubted Bosskiller but this meant I had to bite the bullet and go buy some vanilla memory. Another 128 euros less in my pocket, after replacing my PSU also   
    Before installing the memory, i decided to try to again boot the PC (using bios 1.4b... beta) with the high perf memory. Didn't work the first couple of times, then it did! OS booted even, first time in a week. Occasionally  (30% of boots) I got the four red lights followed on the next boot by an error messages highlighted in red saying the previous overclocking settings prevented the machine from booting, did I want to keep current settings or reset them. In each case, I kept the setting and simply rebooted.
    I then noticed I had not switch the FSB jumper to the 266 setting.  Not sure if this matters, as I though bios automatically detects / sets the correct FSB setting in any case. This seemed to improve matters a little.
    I then changed the memory, and things improved further.  I am now able to boot most of the time, only seeing the 4 red lights when I cold boot the machine after it has not been used for a while (this happens 100% of the time). While running, it seems stable. If i do mess about a little, and constantly hit the reset or main power switch on/off every 10 secs, I will occasionally see the four red lights, or 1G1R2G so I avoid this 
    Will run the memtest tools you suggested. I am not convinced the high perf memory is bad yet. Will try out some more tests on it at a later date though. The cold boot issue sort of suggests a PSU issue to me but I am unsure. In any case, my Antec power PSU is not in yet  , but will install when I get it and hope it resolves the residual issues.
    Much appreciate all the help from folk, especially Bosskiller. It has been interesting, I have learned quite a bit I believe.

    I want to try to get my Q6600 processor up from 3.0 to 3.6 GHz, though I'd appreciate to get a clue to what settings might be the goal. I have little experience with overclocking, but I think 3.6GHz is a realistic goal.
    Msi P35 Platinum revision 1.2, bios 1.4
    Q6600, been running at 3.0GHz the last 6 months by simlply upping the FSB
    4x 2GB ddr2 800MHz Mushkin value ram
    Initial settings:
    I can get it boot up at 3.6GHz/1600MHz fsb, by upping cpu volt and others but it fails the Prime95 stress test immediately.
    multiplier x9
    memory auto
    cpu V = 1.375 (too low perhaps?) (default=1.275)
    NB V = 1.425 (default=1.250)
    SB io V= 1.7 (default=1.5)
    SB V= 1.05 (default=1.05)
    Before trying to tweak incrementally I hehe would like to try some tested values to start from, and hope I get lucky and can go on from there.

    Being somewhat in a hurry, and being a newb, I tried getting the Q6600 to work at 3.6Ghz (400/1600MHz fsb, mult x9), but I couldnt make it stable with Prime95.
    Lowering it down to 3.4Ghz seem to be really ok, and it has been stable for some time in Vista x64. Seems i can stick with this and mabye try to tweak it a little later.
    I still would like to hear from anyone running the MSI P35 Platinum with Q6600 at 3.6 with air cooling, and learn about their voltages.

    Thanks for participating in the Apple Support Communities.
    It sounds like the Mail app on your iPad mini is showing that you have over 500 unread email messages, but your inbox is actually empty.
    There are several steps I'd use to troubleshoot this situation.
    First, restart your iPad to see if it clears up the symtom:
    Restart or reset your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support
    Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the red slider appears.
    Drag the slider to turn your device completely off.
    After the device turns off, press and hold the Sleep/Wake button again until you see the Apple logo.
    If this doesn't correct the behavior, try removing and re-adding the affected email accounts next:
    Get help with Mail on iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - Apple Support
    Delete the affected email account from your device.
    Tap Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars.
    Tap the affected email account.
    Tap Delete Account.
    Add your account again.

  • Help P35 platinum problems

    Hi, I'm new in the forum.
    I have bought a p35 platinum about three weeks ago, it is fantastic and I like it very much, but I have some problems with it.
    If I list them, could you help me??
    My complete configuration is:
    mb: msi p35 platinum;
    processor: Q6600 (without O.C.);
    ram 4x1gb team elite ram 800mhz;
    video: ati 2600xt 512mb gddr3;
    . At first, the motherload's bios colour was black, but suddenly it became classic blue. Now it's blue yet. Is it normal?
    . When I turn on the Pc it a emits "beep"(that should be a sign of bad operation of the AMI bios).
    . The bios read 3.25gb of ram, but I've installed 4gb.
    . dual core center inform me that the CPU fan is 0, while, it goes on spinning. (it happens often)
    . A lot of programs, like Sandra or Everest 2007, read the chipset ICH9 instead of ICH9R.
    . Live Update crash when it looks for bios versions.
    . After installing the bios 1.3 the start is more slowly, besides there is a screened where I can read the marvel component. unfortunately I can read just this, then I will try to do a screen.
    PS:
    Despite of I had this problems, I go on loving my magic motherload. I hope you will help me, because I don't know what to do.
    My O.s. is Windows vista Ultimate.

  • P35 Platinum Restart-Hangup problem

    Hi, happy new year to all.
    Well,  yesterday I bought some PC parts and did an upgrade but I'm facing a lot of problems....random re-starts and hangups about every 45min  !!!
    My specs are:
    -Q6600 G0 Stepping
    -MSI P35 Platinum
    -GSKILL DDR2 1000  8GB (4x2GB)
    -eVGA 8800 GTS 640
    -Thermaltake toughpower 650W (W0104RU)
    -LG DVDRW Sata
    -WD 500GB RE2 sata
    -Seagate 250GB N35 sata
    -Maxtor 160GB sata
    -Soundblaster X-FI fatal1ty
    -Vista Enterprise 64bit
    The system isn't overclocked, all settings are default and bios is 1.6. Any help will be appreciated!

    3)I never installed dual core center
    4)Currently is running @800
    5)I downloaded the patch and it says that doesn't apply to my system (Vista 64bit)
    I found that when disabling the x-fi, the system runs OK. Is there any issues with that x-fi or 64bit driver? I ask because previously I was running vista 32bit with that same soundcard and everything was OK.

  • P35 Platinum and MSI 8600 GT problem

    I have a problem with the computer locking up. It will do it on certain web sites, clicking around in Media player and other programs. I tried everything I could think of. Finally I Got an 8400 video card locally and everything is fine. My question is, since the 8600 GT gets all of it's power from the PCIE slot could it be a voltage problem? If so, I see no way of increasing the PCIE voltage in the bios for this MB.
    Any ideas before I send this card back?

    It locked up with default bios settings and no overclocking. I didn't overclock the video card at all. I tried everything. Since I put in a temporary 8400GTS I have the processor overclocked to 3.3gig and everything is fine. Could the 8400 need less power than the 8600GT and if so is there a way to increase the voltage on the 16X PCIE slot? This is a MSI MB and MSI Video card so I would expect them to work together.

  • P35 Platinum and eSata problem

    I recently bought a WD My Book Premium ES 500GB and when i try to connect it via eSata cable, it doesn't work.My system can't recognize the drive, it doesn't show up in BIOS screen where HDD's are. I tried 2 different eSata cables but nothing.Via USB2 connection it works fine.
    My system Specs are: Intel Core 2 Duo E6600,MSI P35 Platinum Mobo with latest BIOS update 1.1, 2GB RAM DDR2, Asus X1950XT VGA,Tagan 500W PSU.
    I tried both eSata ports at the Back Panel of my motherboard but none worked with My Book.
    Is there a problem with My Book? or is a compatibility issue?

    Make sure you have set the switch or whatever your external drive has, to E-Sata mode.  I'm sure you probably already did that but just sayin! 
    I have a different board AND different external drive but after playing with my setup for a whole day trying to get the esata to work, it finally dawned on me that I had not set the switch from  USB to Esata (no wisecracks please 
    As soon as I did the switch, the Esata started working just fine.

    we're professional pc producers
    we're building 2 workstations with this components:
    cabinet coolermaster stacker
    p35 platinum
    kingston memories (667,800,1066)
    hdd western 320gb
    psu coolermaster real power 700w
    nvidia quadro 1500
    now:
    with 700w cooler master psu system wont boot or post, fan start about 3 sec then quit
    no beeps, no leds.
    with others psu's EVEN CHEAP 450W OR 500W system post FINE!!!
    AND THE 700W COOLER MASTER IS WORKING PERFECTLY! cause it works with 10/20 other machines.
    we've updated every kind of bios release
    we've switched 667,800,1066 memory from kingston, a-data o buffalo
    we've unplugged all peripherals
    so. any1 ideas?
    the problem is the same with all 2 mobos
    1mill $ at guys that solve this issue

    hi all, thanks for posts. we already switched to enermax psus and everything is going just fine.
    but the question about cooler master psu still remain...we've done some electric tests, but we didnt find any ground problems...regard the 12V rail...an "abnormal behaviours" is a *very* generic definition of the problem, so we dont understand where we have to look...
    It would be nice to find where really is the problem, so we really can say they products are "mediocres" and feel free of suggest them or not...this way product judgment can be based on real technical facts and not personal opinions...
