P43 Neo-F - Mystery SM Bus Controller
Hello everyone!
Been rocking my Neo-F since Xmas and what a great board. Just one problem I was hoping you guys could help me with:
When I first installed the board I did a clean install of Win XP and updated drivers and all that, but device manager lists an "SM Bus Controller" that I cannot find drivers for either online or on the software disc bundled with the board.
Does anyone know what it is or where to find drivers for it? Alternatively, how do I disable it so my computer stops worrying about it every startup?
It's probably just me being dense and missing something, but over to you.
Thanks massively for your help.
Cheers.
I had the same problem with the public Windows 7 beta on my P45 Neo-3 FR board.
I solved it by installing the latest INF Update Utility (9.1.0.1012 WHQL).
They are generic (board/OS), so they will probably solve your problem as well.

Sm bus controller (p965 neo)
hi..
i have a new computer with the msi p965 neo board .
i have noticed that i have a problem with something called sm bus controller , which doesnt allow me to connect several usb divices together , i mean , i tried to connect 2 joysticks but only 1 was recognized ...
i looked for drivers for that but couldnt find any .
i am using win xp pro sp2 .
any1 ??Try un-installing the USB drives and let windows re-detect the drivers again.
You can also try updating your intel.inf driver from Intel. -
MSI P43 Neo 3F PCB 1.1 can't OC by switch at bus 333MHz
My pc: E5200 R0, MSI P43 Neo 3F PCB 1.1 (latest bios ver 2.5), 2x2Gb KingMax 1066, Vga 7100GS, PSU AcBel E2 400W, Hdd Seagate 250Gb SATA2.
When i adjust bus 200->266 by switch it work OK but 200->333 system can't boot and work. Is Mainboard wrong ? Thanks.Quote from: skip741 on 15-October-08, 05:46:56
Hi Unicron, read ur post and thought id give you some feedback.Im the guy who originally posted the 417fsb wall thread.I beleve these boards with the p43 chipset Do indeed have something going on which limits the higher fsb speeds seen by p45 series. Id be interested to hear if Any one with a p43 version msi board has achieved speeds beyond 415-417. I know the p45 chipsets have gotten thru the 500fsb barrier.I had tried Every bios available for my p43 neo3-f board and EVERY possible bios setting and yet never got beyond that 417 limitation. Voltages raised in cell menu have No effect on getting thru it. board is strong and stable Up to that point, then 1 mhz beyond there is no post or freezing as it enters desktop.Ultimately after spending 3 weeks intensive trying everything and scouring every forum and msi tech for advice, to no avail, i just gave up on it and returned my board to manufacturer. I purchased another brand of board and went right thru that fsb wall with same hardware and cpu.i was able to achieve 535fsb no problem. I had tried to post "which" board i went with before on this forum but was censored heavily for trying to do so. I guess such sharing is Not allowed. Moderators take that as promoting "other" manufacturers boards and frown on it.My intent was only to share what i learned and help others. So i have to keep that info to myself sadly.. anyway thats my 2 cents, my name is Paul. good luck !
Yes, I think we discovered the same thing:
The MSI P43 Neo boards don't go over 414, 415 or 417mhz FSB.
Nor do various other brands. I must say I haven't found/read about a P43 board that does. But I guess if you claim there 's such a board, it must exist.
I'm done looking. Next time I'll buy a higher end board. Low end CPU + Low end board OC isn't a very good idea. I should've gone with a X48 MSI DDR2 board + E9650. -
K8N Neo Plat SM Bus Controller Problems
Hi, I just did a recent build witht the K8N Neo Plat and am having some problems.
My original build kept getting corrupt files from any self extractor that did a self verify. I could install windows and the MSI NForce Drivers but many files got corrupted. I finally figured out it was Bad Ram and replaced the PC 3200 I Was using with a stick of PC 2700 I had lying around. I installed windows with no problems and all of the windows updates(which were where I was getting corrupt files). But then when I installed the NForce3 Drivers from the MSI Cd I get blue screen of death, which I did not recieve with the bad ram. I then revert to last known good setting and can install of of the NForce3 drivers except for SM Bus Controller. I have tried using the NForce3 Drivers from the MSI CD and a download version. Both won't install, it still shows up with an exclamation point next to it in device manager. I have tried choosing the driver directly, but I get an accessed denied message. The only problem is when SM Bus won't install, I cant run my new 6800 GT at AGP 8X. It stays stuck in PCI mode.
Also I see a lot of talk about CPU Temps reported by BIOS. I am using the 1.1 Bios, and it shows the CPU running at 65-70C. Core Center shows this also. Is this just a misreported temp? Im using a 3400+ CLawhammer CG Revision with a Zalman 7000 ALCu with Arctic SIlver 5, the HSF seems to be screwed down completely, but the temp reading still makes me nervous.
Thanks for any help.apply minimal heat paste
clamp sink down switch machine on
the prob is not the heat the prob is the chip clocking 8ghz
the sink and fan work really well
the bios is version 1.5 public
i'm trying to back flash it but i need version 1.1 .1.2. 1.3 and the prog to fash it
and an explanation (it's my first time lol) -
848P Neo (SM Bus Controller) is not there?
Can anyone help me, I am on an MSI 848P using realtek ethernet. I have tried using driver utility cd but cant find anything on SM bus controller. Tried My os xp cd and it couldnt find the drivers.
My comp is a p4 2.6 ghz
512 ddram
ATI 128 9600 graph card
On board sound and ethernet
80 gig hd
dvd and cd rw drives
floppy
The power went out of my apartment Yesterday and then tried to come back on and kinda of surged. It fried my DSL modem and messed with the router. The computer then started acting funny. Like it would start for 1 second then turn off. So i finally got it to turn back on and then bam, The ? mark came up for the SM Bus Controller which i have no clue how to do anything about it. My internet is kinda of screwy. Would that have anything to do with the SM Bus Controller or the on board ethernet???? Also is this a Mother board based Controller or is this a computer problem outside of the MB. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank youYou need to install the Intel INF Drivers.

I have a P43 Neo F board , XP proffessional SP3
Recently my sound device (Realtek) has dissapeared and there is no sound in the computer.
In the Device Manager ther is a PCI device with yellow question (?) mark and no drivers installed.
Under Details of the PCI I have VEN_8086&DEV_3A3E&SUBSYS_75191462
From what I found on the net this is a HD audio device - but I couldn't find drivers for it
I tried to install/update drivers - but the system doesn't find them.
Tried to reinstall Realtek driver - it didn't t change anything
Upgraded Intel drivers - no success
Please help !!!Quote from: Svet on 13-April-09, 08:54:41
Go to device manager, then expand "System Devices", and locate "MS UAA bus" Right click over it, then click "Disable".
Reboot and enter in "Safe Mode", {hit "F8" just after bios post screen}
Once done go to device manager then expand "System Devices", and locate "MS UAA bus" Right click over it, then click "Un-install".
Reboot PC, then run Realtek driver installation again.
If problem persist use:
>>> Unknown Devices 1.4.20 Beta with updated ID lists <<<
Thanks Svet
Still no solution ....
But I don't see any "MS UAA bus" under the System devices
What will be the effet of the "UKD_14-20_Beta_updated_july_08.exe " that you provided link to ?

Well I'd been running Windows 7 flawlessly apart from a few non-related motherboard problems, so I decided to install Vista.
Basically my main OS drive (sata) is always detected, but then occasionally (more often than not) my secondary sata drives will simply not be listed in device manager once the system is booted up. Now, I've seen this problem before, and it was sorted by right clicking 'my computer' going to 'manage' and setting the drives up to be detected. But this simply isn't the case here. They don't appear anywhere!
It sometimes sorts itself out once I click 'Scan for hardware changes' in device manager and they magically appear as if ive just plugged in a USB device, which is fine I guess...but each time it swaps the damn drive letters around! So having media library's in Winamp, etc or putting a shortcut toolbar to my music on the taskbar is all but pointless!
All of my hardware apart from Bluetooth has drivers installed for it, and nothing seems to be conflicting at all. Does anyone have any idea why this is
happening? because in all my years of computing I've never seen something as strange as this...
As far as I know I have the latest Intel INF drivers installed (9.0.0.1011)
This is the board: http://www.ebuyer.com/product/148024I can't see how it'd be PSU because Win7 was just fine...but here it is...
PSU: OCZ XStream 600W PSU
100~240Vac 10-5A 50/60Hz
+3.3V(36A), +5V(30A), +12V1(18A), +12V2(18A), +12V3(18A), +12V4(18A)
Specs:
Dual Core E5200 2.5GHz
4GB Corsair RAM + 2GB OCZ RAM
nVidia GeForce 9600 GT
MSI P43 Neo-F
Not detected (at Vista startup) drives:
Hitachi HDP725050GLA360
ST3320620AS
(they show up perfectly fine in DOS, but I remember only the drive below appeared during Vista setup drive options...)
Detected Primary OS drive:
WDC WD800JD-00LUA0
My drives in BIOS are set to IDE mode (which has always been fine for me in the past). I set it to AHCI Mode to check if it boots but it just sticks on the same screen (flashing underscore). I'm sure it's driver related but I'm totally out of options now...you'd think installing the ones provided on the MSI site would get it working... :/
Another thing is under 'Storage Controllers' in device manager, there is only an IDE Controller. I'm sure there should be a SATA one there, too? -
hello all,
I just got my new computer fresh from the shop:
cpu - c2d e5200
cpu fan - arctic cooler freezer pro 7
mobo - msi p43 neo
(http://global.msi.com.tw/index.php?func=proddesc&maincat_no=1&prod_no=1484)
memory - kingston 800mhz 2gb*1 value - I think the timings are 6-6-6-18
gpu - sapphire radeon 4850 dual slot fansink
psu - jsp-tech (ezcool) 450w
hd - wd 640gb
case - silverstone ps02b with two case fans
bios version is 1.7
OS - windows xp sp3
I want to do a moderate oc on this baby, but I'm afraid since it's my first time. I read a lot from the internet and also the manual but still have several questions.
1) I understand that in this mobo there is no need to adjust the pci and pci-e bus?
2) I plan to do a modest oc - raise it only to 3.0ghz. the bios has gray "auto" next to all of the voltages brackets. can I keep it in "auto"?
does "auto" means stock voltages or will the voltages rise when I'll raise the fsb?
I don't want to "overvolt" just yet.
3) I understand that I need to change DOT, c1e, EIST, spread spectrum to "disable". but I want to keep the EIST and c1e for power conservation. will that effect my oc, considering it's a modest one?
4) is raising the fsb from 200->240 keeping the multiplier 12.5 (240*12.5=3.0ghz) and changing the FSB:DRAM to 1.66 a good option or should i try another one?
5) is there other items I should change in the bios?
If there is anything else that you can suggest, pls do. thank you in advance for your kind reply.if your going to oc it in 3.0 ghz just raised the fsb 286.. reboot and see if theirs and error..
dont change anything yet.. -
MSI P43 NEO-F, Q9400, GSkills 4GB DDR2-1066 unstable... help!
Just built a new system with the following hardware:
CPU: Intel Quad Core Q9400 (stock: 2.66Ghz 1333Mhz FSB) (running @: 3.2Ghz 1600Mhz FSB)
Motherboard: MSI P43 Neo F (1.A or 1.10 BIOS)
Memory: G Skills 2x2GB DDR 1066 5-5-5-15 (F2-8500CL5-2GBPK) (running @ 800 2.1v only, not stable at 1066 2.1v)
Video Card: MSI ATI R4870
PSU: OCZ GameXStream, OCZGXS700 7OO watts, 4x +12V@18A outputs
Cooling heatsinks are all stock, but air flow is good with the new TT case.
Current voltage settings:
CPU Voltage: 1.335V
CPU GTL REF0: Auto
CPU GTL REF1: Auto
DRAM Voltage: 2.1V
MCH or NB Voltage: 1.328V
VTT FSB Voltage: 1.2V
MCH GTL REF Voltage: Auto
ICH or SB Voltage: 1.5
Does anyone have the similar setup or any idea why I can't get the system running at 3.2GHz @ 1600FSB and 4GB @1066MHz ?
I've ran multiple tests with PRIME95 and Memtest64, and was unsuccessful.
System actually got through Prime95's small and large FFT test OK, but failed the Blend test. So I'm leaning towards the memory.
But I got LOTS of errors from Memtest86, while memory set at 1066 @ 5-5-5-15 2.1V
What voltage should I be tweaking the CPU, NB and SB to get the RAM to pass Memtest?
I'm not asking much, but it seems these overclocked DDR2-800 RAM aren't that stable at 1066 without tweaking other components. B/C the system definitely wasn't stable with CPU/FSB @ stock speed and RAM set at 5-5-5-15, 1066, 2.1V
Don't know why they call it DDR2-1066 when it only runs stable at DDR2-800...
Any advice would help,
ThanksQuote from: Jack t.N. on 09-November-09, 05:12:28
The P45 Memory controller natively supports only DDR2-667 and DDR2-800 modules. From the point of view of the chipset, DDR2-1066 is beyond specifications. Also, your memory modules are just DDR2-800 sticks with a permission to overclock, not native DDR2-1066 modules, built to work @1.8V.
This double overclocking makes a stable system @DDR2-1066 somewhat of a hit & miss situation.
Do you have options to tweak the DDR Reference Voltage Values in BIOS?
Nope, I didn't find a DDR Ref Voltage value.
Hmm , I thought the MSI specs posted would mean the chipsets and mainboard can sustain double overclocking...
Cause the memory module report on the MSI website actually has my memory set, and results were OK when operating at DDR2-1066.

P43 neo-f fsb wall at 417 with e8200
with the p43 neo which i believe there identical too p43 neo 3 apart from cooling on motherboard and bios versions(layout same ,features same, chipset same) ,anyway I will hit a 417/418 fsb and will become totally unstable and freeze on me(while using dual core centre) or if using bios overclocking will reboot until it goes back to defaults, have also tried everything voltage wise, have dropped multipliers and it is definitely a motherboard fsb wall issue.
even tried putting a fan over northbridge to cool as seems to run very hot(is now just warm too touch so ok),but makes no difference to overclocking and is annoying hell outta me, as i bought an e8200 to specifically overclock and best i can get stable is 3300
an overview of my specs
coolermaster igreen 600w
msi p43 neo-f (latest official bios)
dual core E8200
xigmatek s1284 with arctic silver
A-data 800mhz ram 8gb (I have pretested in anouther machine upto 900mhz at 1.8v)
nvidia 512mb 8800gt
Asus xonar dx soundcard
samsung f1 1gb
seagate 500gb hard drive
Things I have tested
with only 2/4gb of ram
all conceivable variations of mch, vfsb, ich mem voltage etc (have not messed with clock drive and skew etc as i am not aware how they effect things)
dropping cpu multi to 7, then raising to fsb of 417 again results in restarting until defaults etc meaning board is hampering overclocking.
upping voltage to cpu-this results in absolutely no better overclocking as it is mobo stopping higher clocks.
Bug I noticed- sometimes on booting into windows after a few minutes with an overclock through bios the mch would show the mch as 2.57v in the dual core centre(i reset to defaults in dual core centre whenever it happens) dont know if this is a bug with bios or dual centre the mch in bios I have set it to is 1.35v, id imagine if it was actually at this voltage it would crash out and fry wouldnt it? but dosent seem to affect anything.
dual core centre often also shows a 1.9 voltage on my memory when it is set to 1.8 in bios, i again reset to defaults in dual core centre and appears to reduce voltage.Quote
with the p43 neo which i believe there identical too p43 neo 3 apart from cooling on motherboard and bios versions(layout same ,features same, chipset same)
As I already told you elsewhere, these boards are not identical. They are similar as they use the same chipset, but they are not identical.

while using dual core centre
Don't use Dual Core Center if you are looking for a stable overclock.

if using bios overclocking will reboot until it goes back to defaults, have also tried everything voltage wise, have dropped multipliers and it is definitely a motherboard fsb wall issue.
Which settings have you used. Please write down ALL Cell Menu settings you used for the highes stable overclock you were able to achieve so far.

A-data 800mhz ram 8gb (I have pretested in anouther machine upto 900mhz at 1.8v)
That does not mean much. Different board, different chipset/memory controller, different BIOS usually mean different overclocking behaviour. As soon as you go beyond 400 MHz FSB-Clock Speed you are overclocking your 8GB of DDR2-800 memory which is likely to be a cause of instability. Have you raised the memory voltage at any point above 1.8V?
Quote
dual core centre often also shows a 1.9 voltage on my memory when it is set to 1.8 in bios, i again reset to defaults in dual core centre and appears to reduce voltage.
Uninstall Dual Core Center, it is not the best tool every conceived by men.
Further Questions:
1) Have you disabled DOT in BIOS?
2) Have you disabled EIST in BIOS?
3) Have you disabled C1E Support in BIOS?
4) Have you disabled Spread Spectrum im BIOS? -
P43 Neo-f: Bios has no option to enable AHCI
Hi!
I just bought a P43 Neo-f and wondered whether there is any way to turn on AHCI with it. In the BIOS section "On-Chip ATA Devices" there is an option "Raid Mode" which, according to the manual, can be set to AHCI. But instead of giving me this option I cannot choose anything but "IDE" here. Is this true for everybody with this mainboard or is mine defective?
Is there any other way to turn AHCI on?
I want to try this as my SATA HDD and DVD-burner are not recognised as existing at all in Ubuntu 8.04 and I read that AHCI sometimes helps with SATA drives in Linux. Other approaches would be appreciated as well.At first I want to thank you for your answers!
@AaronYuri: I tried that already and it does not work... actually I think this just cycles through the different entries otherwise available as that selection pulldown menu when pressing the Return key. And as there is no such entry it does not work with +/- either.
@Jack the Newbie: hmm... this is odd... maybe Intel forgot to add it to that website as
http://global.msi.eu/index.php?func=proddesc&prod_no=1484&maincat_no=1&cat2_no=170
clearly states:
• Intel® ICH10 Chipset
- Integrated AHCI controller.
or do I get something wrong there?
And finally some googled sources (of which I do not know the credibility) also say ICH10 has AHCI, e.g.
http://xtreview.com/addcomment-id-3747-view-Intel-ICH10.html
So I am not sure... I am writing to MSI Online Customer Support to find that out now! -
[P43 Neo-F] No Pci-e Frequency option in BIOS??
Hi..
I am using a MSI P43 Neo F Board(MS-7519).
Now I am facing the FSB Wall problem of this board and the only solution I have found is to increase Pci-e frequency to 104 as suggested by the main topic about this problem on this forum. But the problem is that there is no pci-e frequency option in my bios. Bios is latest as confirmed by live update software but there is no such option.
Can anyone help me on that?why is that I have the same model but not the same options??Quote from: Adiel on 13-April-11, 04:02:00
You have not used P43 Neo F I suppose, that mobo does not go above 400 or 415 fsb, search the internet, its a common problem, and the only solution is the one i posted. But why is that the bios of my mobo does not have this option??
Its most likely because the parts are not the same and even if they were they wouldn't work the same.
Like he mentioned already, it works for some and not for others. Its a fickle thing, it isn't a matter of "oh hes better so it works" its more like "his CPU's die isn't as f-ed up as yours is". Something along those lines. -

Try this Intel chipset driver...
https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?DwnldID=20775&lang=eng
If the auto install file doesn't work, download and unzip the second file listed (zip file).
Go to the device manager and click on the smbus controller needing drivers, click on the driver tab. Click on Update Driver.
Select the Browse my computer for driver software option and browse to the driver folder that was created when you unzipped the file.
Make sure the Include Subfolders box is checked and see if the driver installs that way.
For the mouse pointer problem try reinstalling the touchpad drivers. -

Managed to get the 8.1 SM Bus Controller Driver Installed
I tried the AMD chipset earlier without success
Re installed both Intel driver downloads again with no joy
Finally tried to load drivers manually Sp 67245 by pointing to the intel saved directory again
This time the driver loaded altough I tried it last night ( another HP post mentioned doing something very similar)
I should note I am dual booting Win7 & 8.1
When i started the computer was missing 2 drivers PCI Simple Communications ControllerBCM20702A0 & SM Bus Contoller on both operating systems
For WIn7 IntelChipset Driver SP 65025.exe solved the Sm Controller Driver issue & SP 69680.exe Broadcom 2070/ 20702 Bluetooth Driver install the BCM20702A0 driver
For Win8.1 manually pointing to the Intel Sp 67245 directory on CWSETUP\SP245 loaded resolved the SM Bus Controller Driver
