P45 Diamond Post Problem

Hi,
I'm starting to have another post problem with my P45 Diamond motherboard.  (First one was RMA'd).  This time, it's showing "Processor Initilization" with red, green, green, red.  My current system is
Motherboard - MSI P45 Diamond
Bios - 1.3
Processor - Intel Q6600 (older version)
Memory - Kingston KVR1333D3N9K2/4G 4gb total 1333
Power Supply - Silverstone 750 watt
Graphics - ATI Radeon HD 3870 X2
It's been working fine for a few weeks and just started acting up.  I'm using stock settings (no overclock) .
Recent changes are adding the Genie, however the post problem happened for the first time before I plugged in the Genie.  The same result now occurs when the Genie is plugged in and when I remove it from the motherboard power.
Basically what happens is it will power up for the first time and it works.  If I restart or shutdown and turn it back on the monitor stays blank and the status lights show Red, Green, Green, Red which is Processor Initilization.  Only way to get it to boot up is hitting the Clear CMOS button or, when I went to bed and started it up this morning, it booted fine.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

The MCH voltage in Core Center we being reported at 1.976 however I NEVER changed any of the values.  Is it possible that the bios "AUTO" changed the value?
The question is this value is really set to 1.976V or if it just a misreport.  Please start Green Power Center and check the voltage values there.
{Remove Dual Core Center from the AUTOSTART list to make sure it does not open automatically when Windows is loaded.  You can start Green Power Center independently of DCC.  Just have look at the Dual Core Center Installation folder.  There should be a sub-folder that contains the GPC Application.  Create a shortcut to it from the Desktop and you are ready to go.}

  • P45 Diamond issue with USB at boot.

    Hi everyone.
It's Felipe from Chile again.  I wait for everyone of you are doing fine.  Maybe some of you would remember me about my last issue with my last motherboard https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=121186.0.  The good thing is that problem is completely solved and the store changed my motherboard for an MSI P45 Diamond paying the difference in money.
I would be experience some little problems with this motherboard and I really would like you to help me.
I have an ASDL Modem USB Zyxel 630-C1, which I connect through Internet.  My problem is, every time Windows starts up, I have to manually unplugged it and plug it again, for the O.S. to detect it. Either way, the System would not let me to connect to Internet.
I though the problem was because of the driver and Windows Vista, but I did a fresh copy of Windows XP Pro and I experience same problems. I asked my ISP for the last driver and he told me where to download them, but didn't fix the problem.
I think, it could be a problem of USB Leggacy Support but I tried to change it disabled-to-enabled and biceversa but I couldn-t make it work.
When my last motherboard MSI X48C I didn-t experienced this problem, but with this P45 Diamond the problem is present.
What I need is, the system detect my USB modem with no need to unplug it and plug it every time I boot on Windows.
Would you some of you, maybe recommend me something, please
    I wait for your reply.
    And thanks again.

Do you use chipset drivers from Intel site?
I'm not quite sure about this question.  The only thing I installed are:
Intel INF Drivers for P3x/P4x/G3x/G4x Chipsets (from http://global.msi.com.tw/index.php?func=downloaddetail&type=driver&maincat_no=1&prod_no=1478)
Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio (From the CD included)
(I also installed Realtek PCI-E Ethernet Drivers from the same MSI web page, but I'm not using them, so I disabled both from BIOS.)
About the chipset driver from Intel site, I entered http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Product_Filter.aspx?ProductID=816 then I selected Windows Vista* Ultimate, 32 bit version, pressed the Go button, from the Download Center I access Chipset, but there I'm not sure what should I select, can you tell me what shoud I download from there, or maybe that site is not he adequate.
Thanks again and I wait for your repply.

  • X38 Diamond and P45 Diamond; endless reboots before POST

    Hi,
I'm experiencing the same problems with two MSI-boards now, and I have had the same problem with a another MSI P35-based board earlier (belive it was a P35 Premium with a C2Q Q6600 - I replaced the board and the config worked fine with a Gigabyte P35-board).
These system don't share any components.
For the P45 Diamond I use a C2Q Q9300, 4 GB of Crucial PC6400 DDR2, Asus GeForce 8600GTS and WD 250 GB SATA HDD. I was able to build the system, install the software and use it for about a week before the trouble starts. When I power the system, fans starts spinning, before it restarts it self over and over again.
On this system I have tried to change the PSU from a Antec 500W to a Corsair 450W, without any difference...
The X38 Diamond system runs with a C2D E4200, 4 GB of Corsair XMS3-1800, GeForce 7800GTX, 250 GB WD SATA HD and a 900W Fortron Source Epsilon PSU. The problem is the same: I was able to get the system up running, install Windows and drivers, and after a few days the problems start. I turn on the system, and after a few seconds it turn itself off, then on, then off and so it goes.
Other than being in the same room, and buildt by me, these systems don't have anything in common. I have used different power-sockets also, on seperate circuits, and that itself should not be a problem.
Tried resetting CMOS on the boards, disconnecting HDD and other stuff that ain't really needed to POST... As I said. At first these systems worked fine, but after a few days of use, problems started. The P45 Diamond-system was buildt some months ago and they put away because of the problems, and now the similar problems with the X38-based setup...

The P45 Diamond does not support DDR2 memory modules.  Can you please verify the info you gave?  Also, what is the onboard BIOS Version?

  • Having problems booting p45 diamond, hangs on logo screen, entering bios.

Hello to all. im new here but been reading these forms for a few months now, and learnd alot from here by just reading. i manage to get my q6600 GO stepping to 3.8ghz.everything was going fine until recently when my board sits at the logo screen and just hangs there,i then hit ctrl alt del to restart it and it attempts again sometimes on the second attempt it works sometimes i have to clear the cmos after trying like 10x.
i have cleared the cmos and loaded advance setting and ran it at stock speed and it still did the same.
sometimes after clearing the cmos it hangs, doesnt even get to that screen where you have to press f1 to configure the bios.
after it finally boots windows it works great, i regularly keep it at 3.4 and i ran prime95 last night for 10hr with out any errors.
oh and i have tryed to run memtest86 but it dosnt want to boot from the cd. boot menu doesnt even come up sometimes.
i think there is a problem with the boot sequence, i thinks thats whats causing the problem because i whent to format a hard drive i had and uninstalled my main hard drive poped in the windows cd and restart it and nothing happens. i then try to go into boot menu and it just hangs. so then i go into bios (several attempts later) and set the cd drive first and save exit restart and still doesnt boot from disk. the light on the drive doesnt even come on.
please if you can help i'd appreciate it.
    thanks in advance.

  • Problem with BIOS update to P45 Diamond

Ok I have been trying to figure out why I couldn't push the fsb on my CPU much past the stock 266mhz mark. I spoke to a friend and he suggested I try updating the BIOS, sounded like a good idea so I tried it. Went online, saw the Live  Update icon and used it. Now I restarted the machine after the update which said that I had the latest version but that it had optimised it somehow. Upon restart I saw the usual boot, memory count and then blank. I've tried reseting the CMOS, loading safe defaults and so on but to no avail. I'm guessing the Live update uploaded something that doesnt agree with my machine. is there anything else I can do besides taking it back to MSI for repairs?
    my system is as follows
    qx6700
    p45 diamond
    3 x 1gig xtune ddr3 1600
    asus 8800GT
    700 watt PSU

Thats the thing, there's no hard drive activity at all  else I would have assumed it was to do with the vga or monitor. It's got to be the bios right? but I don't know how to update the bios if I cant even get to a dos promt

  • P45 diamond - corsair memory issues

I have the p45 diamond board . i just upgraded to that board as well as the q9550 intel quad chip. I am running one of the recommended ram kits ( corsair 2x2gig tw3x4g16009hx )
My vista 64bit install went fine but i noticed by default my ram was running at 1067 instead of 1333 at post screen. I flashed the bios to v1.4 and adjusted the timings and voltage in my bios to 9-9-9-24 1.8v. with the fsb/dram ratio @ 1:2.00 . the ram clocked at 1333 in my post screen. however. i started getting blue screens (win32k.sys) as well i can't even launch cod4, it says there was an error and closes. I have re-installed cod4 and it still doesn't work. I went back to the default memory speed and still doesn't work. After flashing my bios i get these errors. I called corsair and explained to them what was going on and they said that that particular ram has known issues. I advised that they're memory configurator lists that as compatible, they thought it had already been removed from being suggested. They set me up with an RMA for ( 2X2gig twin3x4096-1600c7dhx) and said that would fix the problem. I haven't received the ram yet but we will see.
Is anyone else running this ram that i am RMA'ing up to? Its stupid that a high end board like this has so many problems with ram.

That's true, but pay attention to that "users looking for the best overclocking results".
Also, he didn't mention the most important thing (the reason is obvious  ):
all those modules are using overclocked & overvolted DDR3-1333 chips!
As general rule, an overclocked component doesn't run properly on ANY configuration in any condition.
Not to mention the extra heat, shorter lifetime and other troubles.
Before buying DDR3 modules, check out their SPD settings (skip OCZ because most of their settings are messed up):
    7-7-7-20 at 1.5V means DDR3-1066
    9-9-9-24 at 1.5V means DDR3-1333
Something more: 99% of the DDR3-1600 and DDR3-1800 on the market are in fact overvolted DDR3-1333.
The fastest DDR3 chips on the market are DDR3-1600, but they're a "rara avis" in DDR3 modules (also they're very expensive).
They have been designed to work with timings of 11-11-11-30(34) at 1.5V.
They can be overvolted to 1.8-1.9V and they can reach 2000-2200MHz.
For example, Buffalo has a DDR3 module using ELPIDA chips (11-11-11-34) able to reach 2400MHz at 2.1V.
For future take care and don't buy "nice heatspreaders"
    cheers

  • MSI p45 diamond + sata

Recently i ran into some real bad problems after updating the jmicron sata driver to the .52 version.
but first off my pc setup:
    Q9400s
    4x 2GB Kingston ddr3
    P45 diamond
2* 500GB sata drive (raid 1 on jmicron controller)
4* 1TB sata drive (raid 5 on intel controller)
    gfx = msi cyclone oc
and i still got a dvd writer also sata on the intel controller.
But now after reinstalling the jmicron drivers (reinstalled it because it didnt install the windows application) the bios cant find the jmicron drives if the intel raid is active. after a lot of struggling i ended up having to reinstall my windows 7 LOST my raid 5 well it only still has 2drives left in the raid and the other 2 it shows as outside eventho i never changed any data on them). And i still dont have the windows application for the jmicron sata.
I ended up changing it all to
raid 5 and raid 1 on the intel controller and put the jmicron in the bios to AHCI and hoocked my dvdr to that.
but anyone knows what the reason could be and if i can recover my raid 5 data?
and also how to get the frking jmicron windows application for the raid management?
And perhaps even a reason as to why all of a sudden my drives started dissappearing?

Thanks for the help i think i sorta managed to get it working again now.
Started the windows install wich i had load the .49 jmicron drivers then i rebooted and in the bios i changed one of the 3 options where you choose between IDE RAID or AHCI to IDE and left the other 2 at RAID and then it suddenly recognized all the drives straight after bios altho i did have to create 2 new raid setups so i hope i can still salvage some data from older drives ;/
But atleast all seems to be working for now just posted the solution here for future reference or incase anyone would encounter something similar.

  • MSI P45 Diamond : Question about voltages and straps.

    Hi,
Before I start a post with my overclocking problems I want to learn more about the board and have a few questions:
    1. OC Jumpers: What do they exactly do, do the increase any voltages, do the change the nb strap or do they only increase the fsb. If they do not change the strap, when/where does the board change it 266/333/400?
    2. What is the maximum safe voltages for the mch, ich, fsb?
    3. New BIOS: Does anyone know when can we expect one or where can I download a beta that is newer than 1.4.
Ok, my problem is that I can overclock past 390. I can get 400 but it is not stable in windows. I first want tolearn how the board works before I discuss my oc problem.
    PC Specs:
    MSI P45 Diamond (v1.4 Bios)
    Intel Q9300 (ran 2000fsb on a xfx 780i)
    4x1gb Transcend aXeram DDR3-1800+
    Zalman 850W power supply
    XFX GTX 260 XXX
    Xfi Titanium
    Thanks

The jumpers change the strap & the FSB Frequency:
When you have an FSB-266 MHz processor and put the jumpers into the 333 MHz position, the FSB Clock Speed will be forced to 333 MHz and the BIOS treats the CPU as though it is an FSB-333-MHz Processor, that means even after a CMOS Clear, the FSB Clock Speed will be 333 MHz and FSB/Memory Ratio will be adjusted automatically based on that strap and the SPD Tables of your memory modules.

    2. What is the maximum safe voltages for the mch, ich, fsb?
The Intel Datasheet for the P45 Chipset should give you a basic overview on voltage ranges.  However, you may need to exceed these ranges, in some cases, depending on your overclock to keep the system stable.  You will find nobody, that will seriously be willing to tell you the "maximum safe voltage" as every voltage increase is potentially dangerous to your the components.  Welcome to overclocking.

  • Any P45 Diamond overclockers out there?

Hello all, first post on this forum for me here.
Was wondering if there are any P45 Diamond users/overclockers around that have experience in using GTL values.
Thing is, im overclocking atm stable at 3.8 ghz with a q9450. (8x475)
I have tried many settings regarding the GTL. None really helped. The only settings that helped was upping de VTT to 1.30, and the vcore to 1.36.
Just that i dont like the fact that i have to push the volts that high. Reading around the web showed that GTL can let me use lower voltages.
Also i have tried to reach 4 GHz, wich i could run but with higher voltages only.
Dont worry about my cooling btw, i got a bigwater set from thermaltake, that also cools the NB.
Something else thats prolly kinda interesting to say, the 1.1 BIOS sucks when it comes to my system. I cant get anything stable above 3.2 GHz for some reason. I reverted back to 1.0 and let me go up to 3.8 again.
There is another problem with my DDR3 memory it seems, when it goes above 1450~ MHz respectively, then the system does not post at all. But running it on 1266 gives me no memory issues. (FSB:DRAM 3:4).
I'll make a post about this issue later in another section of the forum.
So to get back to the origin of this post.
Is there anybody out there that can help me with the GTL values?
Needless to say its about a 45nm quad cpu.
    I'll list my specs :
    MSI P45 Diamond
    Q9450 @ 3.8 GHz, 8x 475 FSB, 1.36 vcore (1.34 under load), 1.30 vtt.

  • NEED BIOS MSI P45 DIAMOND

    Hi!
I have a problem - can`t overclock my p45 diamond over 450 mhz at fsb with bios 1.67.
I need perfomance bios version. Where i can download it?

There are no up-to-date Performance BIOS Versions available for your mainboard.  If Performance BIOS Versions ever existed, they were released in the early BIOS Development Phase for testing purposes.  To be honest, I have not come across any Performance BIOS for your board yet and it is also highly questionable if such a BIOS would help you in any way (if it existed).  Whatever problem there is (or not is) does not necessarely have much to do with the BIOS you use.
If you need help and advice on overclocking, please open your own topic in the OC Section of this forum, provide FULL system specifications (read the >>Posting Guide<< first) and post a list of your current Cell Menu settings for comparison.

  • P45 Diamond won't load Vista or anything!!!!!

    Hi,
After spending about 300 bucks on this board and several hundred dollars in diagnostics, and 2 weeks myself trying to get my system to just run... I am at the end of my tether.
Vista Ultimate x 64 (bought the disk) won't load, and BSOD after the pretty circle logo.
I updated the bios to present one. The crashes don't even get to the ATI crashes (ATI.DKG errors)
I've tried all the tricks like 1 stick of ram, video card only in 2nd PCIE slot, millions of memtests (all passed)
I would post the errors, cept I can't open windows :(
My setup is P45 Diamond Motherboard
    2 Seagate 1TB hard disks
    8 GB of DDR3 ram (2 sets) (Corsair xms3-1333MHz 1.7V CM3X2048-133c9dhx)
2 visiontek ati 4850 video cards
    Intel Q9550 processor
Power supply is 1000W Silverstone Strider Series
I did my homework and made sure the ram, videocards and processor were compatible. Don't know why it doesn't work, nor anyone else.
Is this board garbage or what?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    I h
    - reduce memory clock speed to 1066 MHz by manually choosing the corresponding FSB/DRAM Ratio
    - raise Memory Voltage to ~1.58V
    - Disable Spread Spectrum
    - Disable EIST
    - Disable C1E Support (CPU Features)
    - Disable everything that you do not need for installing an operating system, that is:
--> USB Controller (use PS/2 Keyboard) (tried both ps2/ and usb)
--> USB Device Legacy Support (disabled)
    --> Onboard LAN Controller (disabled)
    --> Onboard 2nd LAN Controller(disabled)
    --> LAN Option ROM (disabled)
    --> Onboard IEEE1394 Controller (disabled)
    --> Onboard E-SATA Controller (disabled)
    --> Extra RAID/IDE Controller (disabled)
    --> COM Port 1 (disabled)
--> (Green Power [Energy Save, CPU Phase Control, DDR Phase Control, MCH Phase Control]) - removed it, ran it as 24 pin direct as well)
--> disabled aoip in bios as well.
There are kernel crashes in win xp 32 , xp 64 bit, vista 32 bit ultimate, vista 64 bit ultimate (bought 2 disks to date  ) debian, knoppix, Kbuntu, Ubuntu as well.
retested my ram , CPU at today at a highly priced and well respected shop today as well.
Corsair engineering stated they tested compatibility with this MOBO, but when retested today couldn't seem to get it working..... ???
Additionally, the ram states 1.7v @ 9-9-9-24 settings for optimum. the board defaults at 1.5 v (10666). these are true 1333 MHz chips, and the actual voltage is 1.6 volts with a manual setting at 9-9-9-24 (as per corsair engineering).
They did test an XMS3 DDR3 module, but it was only the 1G x 2 set. They stated compatibility for the 4 GB (2x2GB) set due to the chip architecture alone it appears.
Silly me for wanting to run 8 gigs on a 64 bit system...
This board appears to have great -promise, but looking at the returns at Fry's, makes me wonder why MSI doesn't get off their ass and make drivers to work with all the main rams and cards.
That's how the big board manufacturers used to do business, now they just don't care.
BTW the Visiontek 4850 cards crash randomly with the ATI.DKG Driver with this card.
ATM, I am stuck with dual 4850s - those are going to join the P45 Diamond in the garage (decided not to throw them away as I dumped $368 (with a 2 year warranty on the MOBO) and cannot return it as it is well past 15 days at the store  , perhaps MSI will make drivers for compatibility, world peace is achieved, and the cure for cancer is found (most likely to occur first)
I might try another MSI product in the future, but my friends (who want me to build clones of my system) do not want this board after the extend of trouble I have gone through.
Looking at EVGA and XFX at the moment, as ASUS is having a 60% return currently (poor manufacturing practices).
Thank You All for all the assistance in trying to help me resolve my problem.
this is by far the most helpful forum I have ever been on. I will keep looking, and of course trying trying to get this board running in my spare time in another system, but have run out of time in trying to get my office system running, so I am sending it to a shop so I can use this overpriced ram and flawed crossfirefire system (let someone else deal with the headaches). I am still interested in the OC features on this board, but really - "Green Power for an COD board is like trying to soup up a 4 cylinder for speed and gas mileage lol.  Cheers and Have a Great Day!!!

  • P45 diamond mobo does not power up

    Hello,
I recently purchased a P45 diamond mobo from Newegg, and the mobo didn't work when I received it. The only thing it would do was display a red light at LED 1, which according to the book means it's on standby? I talked to Newegg and they said they would RMA it. Today I just received the replacement and the exact same issue exist. The probability of two boards having the exact same problem makes me suspicious.
I currently have the mobo sitting on the box it came with and the only thing connected are the two power cables; 8 pin and the 24 pin. When I turn it on, I only get a red light at LED 1. It doesnt matter what I have installed, I get the same red light. My real question is, what does this red light indicate other than standby? Am I doing something wrong? I have assembled computers since 1989, and I am out of ideas here.
I used the Cmos jumper- correctly. I also removed the power cable and pressed the Cmos button.
I have one last question. If no CPU is present, will the LED status indicators work or does the mobo need a functioning CPU to display LED light beyond the single red light that I am getting?

Install the processor + heatsink, a video card and one stick of RAM, then clear CMOS with main A/C power cable removed from PSU.
Try to start the system by shorting the two pins for the power-on button (JFP1 pin header) with a screwdriver.  If nothing changes, please try another PSU.
I purchased a new PSU to try and isolate the problem during the last motherboard. I also tested the other components on another mobo and they worked. I did what you said also and shorted the power-on header and nothing happens. I dont know what the probability of receiving two boards with the same exact problem but it makes me wonder. Newegg is generally a good company, maybe it's just my bad luck.
I just built a system for a friend of mine and he uses the same board and loves it. Hopefully, I can RMA it from MSI and get better results.
    Thanks Jack for the help.

  • P45 diamond, Vista64, ATI 4870 BSOD (incompatable???)

Well, I took the plunge on the P45 Diamond (MS-7516, PCB v 1.0) with the hopes of making a nice OC'r. Everthing was going fine on install until I loaded the ATI 4870 drivers, after which Vista 64 boots, I logon, then about 10 sec. later, BSOD. This is repeatable. I updated to AMI BIOS 1.4 (with great help from the Forum USB Bios Tool!!). All went well. Reinstalled the latest 8.9 ATI catalyst driver (Vista64) for 4870 and same thing. Vista 64 boots, I logon, then 10s later - BSOD. I can roll back with system restore and all is well. But after I reinstall - same thing. I've updated the Intel drivers, etc. Would be nice if the 'Live Update Online' worked, but I can manage with the manual method. PSU is a 750 PC P&C, so it shouldn't be a power problem. Memory is a 2MB Patriot Viper DDR3 PC3-1600 (2000 MHz). No OC'ing yet, just trying to get the 4870 running. Temps are way cool, CPU ~30C, GPU is cool via touch. I read some other threads about the 4870 problem, but looked like BIOS flash was supposed to cure. The 4870 is a Sapphire, w/ 1GB memory. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Problem RESOLVED! MSI Tech support notified me that ATI put a new driver for the 4870 (8.1) on their web site yesterday. I was a bit skeptical, as I've put several BIOS updates on and several ATI drivers on, and always ended with the same exact problem. But willing to do 'whatever' to get my hard earned cash operational, I installed the new driver and Voila! Problem resolved. Thanks also for your help and assistance Bosskiller.
dude, where did you get your 1.51 bios update? i searched and all i got is 1.50.. did you checked if you also installed your sm bus driver? because that's what screws my video card..
