P45 NEO - Q6600 @ 3.6Ghz - 400x9 vCore 1.5600 too high?

Hi All,
I have received my Thermalright 120 Extreme this week and buyed a new Coolermaster 120mm 90cfm fan.
With this new build i have started to reconfigure my setup to run 3.6Ghz daily.
After many hours of configuration i got a stable configuration below in bios:
FSB: 400
FSB-DRAM: 1:1 (OCZ Heaper 1066 running at 800Mhz) but latter i will try 1066Mhz
vCore: 1.5600
GTL Ref 1: Auto
GTL Ref 2: Auto
MCH: 1.21
VTT: 1.22
ICH: 1.50
Temps are realy low with this new cooler, at full load i got 56c. and idle 29c.
Now come the questions:
I belive that 1.56 is too high for this CPU, but as most mobos, the real vcore is below 1.56, like 1.51
Is there a way to increase MCH and reduce vCore?
PS: I have EIST enabled!!! So this save a lot of power as when i got idle the mult fall to x6 (2.4Ghz) and vCore fall to 1.32

I have made a mistake with Core Temp VID.
But one more interessting think is when i put the CPU at FULL load with prime95 or OCCT, my mobo start a low noise like a whizz.
Looks like this mobo will not support this high vcore for much time

    This is my first post, so bear with me a little!
    First, my system:
    Intel Q6600 G0
    MSI P45 Neo-F mobo with 1.9 BIOS (factory installed)
    Thermaltake Soprano case
    8GB Kingston HyperX T1 1066 DDR2 (@ 800)
    Changed the 120mm case fans for Thermaltake ISGC 12's
    Changed the Stock Cooler for a CoolerMaster Hyper TX3 with an additional BladeMaster 92 fan in a push/pull config.
    Used MX3 thermal paste.
    Everything is running fine at stock settings.
    I would like to get a bit more juice out of the CPU if I can - The PC is mostly used for work and general internet/mail, but I do game on it and I would like to get as much out of it as I can.
    I've done quite a bit reading, and looked at a lot of other posts/forums, but I just can't replicate what others are doing with similar setups.
    My problem is this:
    I can get the chip stable at 3200 in Prime95, but only if I ramp the core v up to 1.4850. Most people with the same setup and similar cooling seem to be able to achieve this at a much lower voltage - usually around 1.37v or so.
    Can anyone point me to where to start looking for the problem here?
    I haven't done a lot of overclocking before and I'd appreciate some advice.

  • MSI P45 NEO-F Overclock different from BIOS 1.1 and 1.7

    PS: Corsair TX650W
    MEM: 2GB OCZ Platinum 800Mhz 4-4-4-12
    GPU: eVGA 9800 GTX
    CPU: Q6600 G0 with stock cooler
    OS: Windows Vista 32bit
    DualCore Center
    eVGA Precision 1.5.1
    I was using BIOS 1.1 and OC the CPU to 3.0 GHz using FSB 333, vcore AUTO, DRAM 1.9v, DRAM Mult 1:1.25 (833Mhz), EIST Enable and all other settings default.
    Everything is OK, but I was unable to rise the CPU to 3.6Ghz using FSB 450. (The maximum that I get is 3.2Ghz with FSB 400 and DRAM Mult 1:1 (800Mhz) )
    Now, i have updated my bios to the latest version 1.7.
    The first difference is then i leave the FSB with 333, my DualCore Center shows 331 (2.979Ghz ) and CPU-Z shows FSB 332. This won´t happens when the BIOS was 1.1 and DualCore Center shows FSB 333 and CPU-Z too. (Seems that BIOS 1.1 has a better precision with FSB frequencies than 1.7)
    Now, i can configure the CPU to 3.6Ghz (Using FSB 450), the system boot up but restart when loading the startup programs in windows.
    My question is why with new bios 1.7 my fsb shows different from BIOS and DualCore Center/CPU-Z.
    What information is correct? The BIOS or the DualCore Center/CPU-Z?
    Has anyone already configured Q6600 to 3.6Ghz FSB 450 with P45 NEO-F and BIOS 1.1 or 1.7?

    Little at a time is the way to go. When you get that cooler you can get your vcore up in the 1.4 range. Then you should get higher numbers. You will nearly always see a different cpu speed in windows than what you see in bios. That's not a problem.

  • E8500 + MSI P45 Neo

    Hello! I'm trying to OC my E8500 and I've ran to some issues with this combo.
    I've ran it somewhere @ 3,6GHz for couple of years now with auto CPU voltage. Now I decided to buy a decent cooler because new CPU coming and decided that I should try going over it.
    I tried to bumb the CPU voltage but no effect, I added little bit to everything, No effect. It seems that the max FSB for me is 386x9.5 which gives me the clock of 3667MHz and I'm unable to go over it. Still this CPU should OC well and I got confirmation that this MOBO should be able to do more from here : https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=119816.0
    I tried those settings with my system and boom overclocking failed ofcourse. The thing is what I've been noticing is that the Dram frequency gets set to 1068MHz somehow and I've set it to 890MHz what is causing this?

    Up your DRAM voltage to ~1,95V.
    Set your Multi step OC booster to mode 2. It helped me on my P45 Platinum.
    Have you removed the FSB jumpers on your board to set a 400FSB on boot ? If not, reset your BIOS to defaults first, and then try that. It worked well on my board, but you will need to check with your board.
    These settings helped me achieve a stable 24/7 on my board with a Q9550 with a 450FSB.
    DRAM ratio 1:1
    CPU V 1.3325
    DRAM V 1.956
    MCH V 1.352
    VTT FSB V 1.35
    You may have to reduce your multi to around 7 for a start and see if you can get it stable with a 440-450FSB. Then start increasing your multi.

  • Overclocking Q9650 + P45 Neo 3

    Hello, I'm hoping someone can help me.  I've had my Q9650 CPU a few months and I decided to try overclocking it.  From reading other websites I got the impression it would not be difficult to get it to 3.6 GHz stable by just increasing the FSB.  Here are my specs:
    Q9650, P45 Neo 3, 4GB DDR2 RAM, Windows 7 64-bit, Hard Disk 250GB, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 285
    The timings for the memory are:
    DRAM Frequency: 401.5 MHz
    FSB:DRAM: 5:6
    CAS# Latency: 6.0 Clocks
    RAS# to CAS# Delay: 6 Clocks
    RAS# Precharge: 6 Clocks
    Cycle Time: 18 Clocks
    Row Refresh Cycle Time: 52 Clocks
    Command Rate: 2T
    If I increase the FSB to 400 then my computer will either reset after Windows loads, or during boot.  I then have to clear the CMOS.  I tried increasing the vcore slightly in the BIOS, but it made no difference.  I did manage to get a stable boot by increasing the FSB to 367 and CPU temperatures were normal.  Any advice to get it to 3.6 GHz would be much appreciated.

    First off, remove the crucial mem and run the samsung alone (the 2x1GB), mixing memory is never a good idea, always keep it with one type, for stability reasons.
    If you need more then 2GB, best is to buy a 4GB kit (2x2GB), since running 4 DIMM slots occupied can be tricky too when oc-ing.
    Set your memorytimings to auto completely, first time you oc, you can tweak that later on, only set Vdimm to ~1.9V, for stability when oc-ing..
    Up Vcore and and NB 1 - 2 notches and set fsb to 1600, run mem and fsb unlinked when oc-ing, so put it in manual, if possible and put the mem @800MHz.
    Maybe set fsb vtt 1 - 2 notches higher also.
    Reboot and see if it works.
    Ive got my cpu running at 0.0625V extra and it still isnt in the red, so dont worry about upping Vcore, as long as the numbers dont turn red and temps are within limits ( ~70C max !! on the cores ).
    And remember, oc-ing is not done in minutes, it takes a while and need alot of testing to make sure all is stable.
    Use HWmonitor, everest, CoreTemp for monitoring, Orthos, Prime95, or Intel burn test for testing stabilty, read well before using any of those programs.

    Hello there MSI info seekers.  This is my first time posting here, but I've used this forum as a guide to build a system online.  I've been told by several sources that this motherboard cannot put out the numbers that I desire without risking burning up the whole setup.  Now, im no dummy when it comes to overclocking, but I wouldnt say that I know enough to push where I'd like. I recently purchased a system with;
    Mobo: MSI P45 Neo-f (possibly replacing if it cannot perform a 4.25 GHZ overclock and support 8 gigs of memory)
    Proc: Intel E8500 Core 2 Duo
    Memory: 4GB <random> - to be replaced by 4/8GB of Corsair Dominator 1066mhz 5-5-5-15 2.1v (clocked down due to this boards displayed fussiness with stuff over 800mhz)
    Video: <generic Nvidia 9500 1gb mem> - to be replaced by an EVGA Nvidia GTX 260 (revision 2, overclocked edition)
    Storage: 300GB Velociraptor (for gaming) & 500GB <random brand> storage drives
    I have a 750 watt power supply, 2 LG cd/dvd burners, and ... I think that should be it. 
    My question is, does anyone here have experience with this motherboard enough to give me any suggestions on overclocking this rig (or pointing me in the direction of a more reliable motherboard for the application/abuse I want to put it through - even if its to a DFI lanparty or some such)?  I've seen some horror stories with it not being very reliable and want this rig to be stable and reliable for a few years, even if I have to remove the motherboard and slap in a new one myself.  I'd be happy with a 4.0 GHz overclock, but eventually would want more.
    Any insightful posts would be appreciated, thank you ahead of time 

    Ah yes wouldnt it be nice to be sure it will do 4.25GHz.
    Let me check my crystal ball 
    But alas, you get no garantuee, with any manufacturer, that it will reach your desired speeds.
    First of there's the cpu, you and I cant tell if its a crappy one, or a good one.
    So thats limiting factor numero uno, if your cpu will "only" get to, for instance, 3.6GHz.
    Remember its rated at 3.16GHz so in Intels eyes its still a good cpu, but you'll probably think of it as crap, since your friend, neighbours or whom ever, got an E8500 to 4+GHz.
    Its not something I would complain abouth though, cause 4.25Ghz is nice, but the few fps more I get for running my cpu at its limit, isnt worth it for me.
    And yes thats all you gain when raising cpu speed, a few fps.
    Second, 8GB 1066MHz, without the use of an AMD or Bloomfield intel (core i7), you wont ever be able to run it at 1066MHz ( And those cpu's dont fit this board ).
    On Core2 boards, no matter what people tell you, it aint gonna happen, 4x2GB 1066MHz.
    With all 4 slots occupied, your limited to 800MHz, if you get lucky somewhere in the 900's.
    This is something that involves all manufacturers, because of memorycontroller, not being able to cope with all the data from "double" dualchannel.
    And why use 8GB??? Apparently you'll use it mainly for gaming, 4GB is enough, more then, these days.
    If you decode/recode, rar a lot, I would consider a quad with 8GB of fast 800MHz memory.
    If you use it only for watching movies, gaming, homeoffice and inet, a good dualcore, like the one you're on planning to get and 4GB 1066MHz will do.
    On 4GB, 2x2GB, not 4x1GB, you can also do 1066MHz with your mem, cause then your not limited.
    The board, well Ive seen many peeps doin 4GHz + speeds on it without any issues, here in Holland they reached a massive 5.6GHz OC during a competitionwith liquid nitrogen and the board still worked flawlessly, so that shouldnt be a problem.
    Apart from the above, i would say nice setup.

  • P45 neo problems

    Ok, so I've tried about everything I could think of.
    I assembled the computer, intel core 2 duo E8500, not 100% sure of the stepping, but its s-spec=slapk. motherboard is an msi-7519 ver 1.0, P45 NEO, 2X2 gig PC2-6400 DDR2 ram modules, 500 gig WD hd, nvidia 8800GT 512mb. Then when I switched power on, and had windows xp in it, it started loading stuff and then gave me the following error.

    I tried switching to a different video card, use a GS7900 256mb, didn't work, tried my 1gig X2 pc-6400 ram, didn't work, tried different dvd-rw drive, didn't work, I have 2 other computers, and been trying every pieces to get past this error message and couldn't.
    So, now I do not have a floppy drive anymore, but I bought a 2gig usb drive.
    I've been trying to read on how to flash my bios, but it seems in all the instructions I've found that I need to have a stable operating system, problem being, can't install it.
    I have even tried installing windows xp on the hard drive using my other comp, and putting it in before I install all the drivers, didn't work, getting the same error message.
    So, I'm guessing I need to flash the bios.

    GTX 260 require at least 40A at +12V line.
    PSU's that comes with a PC Case usually are junk.

  • MSI P45 Neo-f with intermittent boot problems

    Current system:
    *CPU: Intel core2duo 4300 1,80GHz
    Mobo: MSI P45 Neo-F LGA775
    *Memory: 1 Kingston 1GB PC2-5300 667MHz DDR2 and 1 Dane-Elec 1GB PC2-5300 667MHz DDR2
    Videocard: Club3D Nvidia 8800GT 512MB GDDR3
    *Hard drive: 120GB IBM deskstar 7200rpm Ultra-ATA/100 (yes I realize it is known as the deathstar, but it hasn't failed so far, I do back-up because I'm paranoid
    PSU: Real Silent Nexus NX-5000 500 watt
    *Soundcard: Soundblaster Audigy
    OS: Windows XP home, service pack 2
    *Lite-on IT dvd-rom drive
    *floppy disk drive
    I also have 3 case fans spinning away in a marginally large Chieftec Dragon tower.
    The parts I marked with an asterisk (*) are parts that I removed from my old rig and re-used.
    I'll try to give a clear rundown of my problem and the steps I've taken so far.
    3 days ago I acquired the P45 Neo and installed it into my system, together with the 8800GT videocard. I was still using my old PSU, a Chieftec 360watt. This PSU served me well for 7 years, but it was starting to build up noise while trying to keep up games on my old rig.
    I had some trouble getting the system to boot, I tried changing some of the 4 pins wires going to the hard drive and the dvd drive. I don't know if it was luck or if I managed to divide the load properly for the system to boot. But I succeeded into booting up, got into the bios and eventually installed WinXP.
    As soon as it was time to install the videocard drivers, it stopped responding. I assumed it was a power issue, since I could only install the 20pin and 4pin cpu, but my Chieftec PSU didn't have a 24pin plug to the mobo - and it needed replacing anyway! So I bought a new 500watt PSU that had all the required plugs and more wattage.
    I installed the new PSU, checked every connection and pressed the power button. 'Lo and behold, the computer starts up. I install the videocard drivers and it proceeds with no problems. I try to install the soundcard, but the cd says I don't have one installed. I fix that by going to the System list and install the drivers from there. I install a firewall. By then I have successfully rebooted the computer 3 or 4 times. I decide all is well and turn off the computer. But I realize I wanted to check up something on the internet.
    I press the powerbutton. The PC power light go up for just a fraction of a second. I can see the blue LED of one of the case fans switching on just as briefly - then it goes out. The computer keeps trying to turn itself on. It looks like it's hickupping to try and boot!
    I turn off the PSU power on the back-side because the computer keeps trying and wait for a bit. After 10 minutes, it still doesn't work. I leave the computer for a bit and return an hour later. The computer then starts up with no problems. I turn it off after a few hours, do a reset, start it up, no problems. But then the next day it happens again.
    It's pretty tough figuring out what the problem is because it looks..almost random. I considered it could be a heat issue, but sometimes it *does* start up just after it's been turned down. Checking the bios shows no strange temperature shifts.
    Hope anyone can help me, because I do not want to go back to my old Asrock mobo

    While powered down I cleared the cmos data, removed the Dane Elec DDR2 module and set the bios to optimized defaults. Computer restarted to WinXP with no problems (it has been off the whole night). I shut down WinXP, wait a few moments and then turn the computer back on. Alas, it won't start and starts hick-upping. I turn power off at the PSU again, so it stops.
    Now I try switching out the Kingston module instead. By now the computer has been off for 10 min (while I write this entry on laptop). I press the power button on the PSU and then the power button on the front. There is a short pause, lasting a second. The computer turns on, longer now, but it only lasts 2 whole seconds before it turns off again and goes on again (I believe now you can call it powercycling). It repeats this process until I shut off the PSU.
    I check to see if I have installed it properly and try again but it starts powercycling again.
    15 min pass, I put the Kingston module back in, press the power button and voila, this time it does start. WinXP shows up, no problems. I leave it on for a bit and then shut down. And when I press the power button again - the feeling of dread returns, when it starts hickupping again.
    I'm going to see if I can install one of the memory modules from my housemate. Then hopefully tommorrow, I'm going to try if I can test a different PSU, since I see someone else on the forum - who recently posted, has the exact same power supply and also has boot problems, coincidence... or not ^^;.

    I know that these CPU temps are not aceptable, but as soon as my thermal grease arrives I'll use it with my TT cooler(current I'm on cooler box) and it will drop a lot.
    COOLING
    I just use:
    a 120mm fan in the lower front of the case sucking the (cool)air in,
    a 120mm fan in the middle back of the case blowing the (hot)air out,
    a 80mm fan fixed in the door case blowing the (hot) air out,
    a 80mm fan over the back of the VGA blowing air to the Northbridge heatsink,
    and (about next week) Thermaltake Big Thyphoon 120 VX with Artic Silver 5.
    The MSI N9800GTX is the best VGA cooler that I ever saw, it really does the job even in the extreme overclocks.
    FINAL WORDS
    After I did this OC, I used the machine for about 4 hours with no problem at all. I did some tests, including some benchmarks like Super PI and 3Dmark 2006, but I did not made any stress test(prime95, orthos) because I'm still using the cooler box and this will for sure overheat it beyond it's capacity, therefore this OC was just a preparation(test) for the real one that I'll do when my thermal grease and my TT cooler were in place, I think that the voltages still can suffer some variation with the advantage of the new cooler, but it will be worked in the right moment, after all overclocking is a long process, when I wrote "final results" to the title of this topic, I mean that this is the clock that I wanted to reach, but of course that still lacks some fine adjustments.
    The real objective of this test was to see:
    1. if the motherboard handles it stable.
    2. if there were no FSB walls to block my OC.
    3. if there were any voltage problems.
    4. if there were extreme overheating.(even with the cooler box)
    and I'm more than happy to see that it passed in all the tests so far.

    Just so by the way, I'm running Vista Ultimate 64 bit, everything was stable for about a week, now all of a sudden its starting to crash applications like the sidebar and MS Office 2007 Groove, Media player, MS Office 2007 Outlook ect.
    I dropped my clock a bit but still the apps crash.

    my hard drive failed (Western Digital 400gb sata) and i just purchase a seagate barracuda 1tb sata 32 mb cache 7200 rpm data 3gb's data rate
    does anyone know if this motherboard can support this hard drive

    i have an older board then that running a 1.5TB drive so i wouldn't think that you would have any compatability problems!

    If you have no problems with the BIOS Version you are currently using, there is no need to update the BIOS (and it is not recommended to do that either).

    S5 - State = Shutdown-State
    The BIOS Update should turn off the 5V power supply to the USB Ports when the system is shutdown (S5) or in Hibernation State (S4). 

  • MSI P45 Neo-F: Computer having problem starting up, and crushes frequently

    Hello,
    I have the following rig:
    Pentium Dual Core E5200
    MSI P45 Neo-F
    2x2GB Kingston DDR2 RAM
    Seasonic 500W SS-500ET
    The problem is that when i start the comp, i won't start up (the computer gets power, and the fans\hd are spinning, but nothing show up and no beeps).
    I have to do several resets and wait for a few minutes in order for it to start. I get a few bsods, resets, and finally, the windows is up.
    When I work in windows, I get freezes and BSODs from time to time.
    I tried to:
    -disconnect all drives
    -disconnect all USB peripherals
    -disconnect TV tuner and Sound Card
    -disconnect every other memory slot, one for each time
    -ran Memtest86 - the memory came out fine
    -ran Intel burn test - which failed
    -ran furmark - passed ok.
    -changed the PSU.
    -the CPU's temratures are fine (around ~35 c)
    I think the problem is in the MB, as this behavior is not common for CPU failure. The comp crushed randomly, not when it is loaded.
    Can somebody comfirm it?
    What can I do?

  • Msi p45 neo f audio drivers

    Where can i find the msi p45 neo f MS-7519 realtek audio drivers?
    i get a popping sound whenever i pause videos from my 4850 video card connected to a receiver using a dvi to hdmi. i wonder if i update my realtek drivers will it get rid of the annoying popping?

  • MSI P45 NEO 3 reports incorect memory settings

    I have the following system:
    MSI P45 NEO 3 FR (PCB 1.0), Intel E8400, 2x1GB DDR2 A-DATA EXTREME 800+(4-4-4-12), Palyt 8800GS, Samsung 640 GBx2, DVD-RW, FDD, Sirtec 460W.
    BIOS (MEMORY-Z) and CPU-Z reports that my memories are 5-5-5-18. I've manually set the latency to 4-4-4-12 and the voltage to 2,004V but the problem remains. I've updated my bios to the latest release, but the same.
    What can i do to set the correct values?

    Memory-Z reads the SPD-Profiles of your memory modules.  Nothing you set in BIOS will ever change the information that Memory-Z shows.  The actual timings that are currently used can be checked via the CPU-Z "Memory" Tab or tools like Memset.
