P45 Platinum & Corsair PC6400-800Mhz

Hello,
I've some problems since I've bought an upgrade kit for my PC, with a MSI P45 Platinum, an Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 & 2gb RAM PC6400 Corsair (I already had 4gb of PC5400).
My complete cfg :
-Vista SP2
-MSI P45 Platinum
-2x1go PC6400-800Ghz XMS2 & 4x1go PC5400-800Ghz XMS2
-Intel Core 2 Duo E8400
-ATI Radeon X1950XT
-Maxtor 250go & Seagate 500go
-Antec EARTHWATTS 430W
So, here's my problem : I can boot my PC without any problem if I connect 1go of ram (with about any go). But when I connect an other one at the same time, the PC try to boot and shuts down 5 seconds later. I tried with all dual channels, and it doesn't work. I tried some things with the bios, but I don't understand it very well, so if someone can help me precisly
Thanks !

Welcome to the forum (forgot to mention that earlier). I just looked up the CPU list for the P45 Platinum. What bios version do you have? Also, do you have the utility CPU-Z? What does it show for 'Stepping Revision'? If your E8400 is an E0 stepping revision, you need at least bios version 1.1 for it to work correctly. I would recommend to update the bios to the 1.5 version using the MSI HQ forum USB Flash Tool.
Hi,
how do you know which CPU and revision is supported in which bios version? I have a E7300 revision M0 and bios v1.0. Do I need to update a bios in order to get everything work correctly? Cos I haven't had any real problems only twice computer wouldn't from a sleep mode. I am just wondering whether the bios v1.0 is right for my E7300.
update> I actually have modded bios v 1.0B1 which solves DPC latency problem.

     Hi guys...
    I have a q9400 on msi p45 platinum latest bios update 1.6 with 2x2 gigs of corsair 1066 xms2 8500c5 , 5-5-5-15 version 4.1.
With one dimm of 2 gigs works fine , when i add the second one in dual chanel it crushes , in sigle cnanel crashes too.
In dimms 1,3 and 2,4 and 1,2 same isue , sistem crushes , in dimms 1 and 4 sistem works(????) but dimm module in slot 1 is cold and dimm in slot 4 IS HOT!!
When i set the timings in bios manualy on 5-5-5-15 and disable bios protection sistem wosks in dual chanel 1 and 3 but memory is HOT in desktop!!!!
    Questions :
This is not right ting to do ???, is life of the modul in risk becouse of hotnes of the modul( moduls are hot on touch about 55-60 degrees celsius maybe more ) ???
Memory is recognized by bios as 10067 and i cant change the voltage on modul but it is automaticli set to 2.1 so it is fine???

    DDR2-1066 CAS=5 does not exist.
    They're overvolted and overclocked DDR2-800.
    See this topic: https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=118018.0
Because the performance boost between DDR2-800 and DDR2-1066 is less than 5%,
if you need my advice let them run at 800MHz (5-5-5-15 or 5-5-5-18 at 1.85-1.90V).
Better stability, longer lifetime and almost the same performances.

  • Problem with MSI P45 Platinum DDR2 mainboard and Corsair Dominator PC8500C5D Ram

Hi, I have encountered with a problem.
    First I had
    MSI p45 platinum ddr2 bios ver. 1,4
    Intel E8400
    Corsair Dominator PC8500C5D 2x1Gb
2 Asus ATI EAH 3870 Crossfire
and it was running with windows XP without any problems.
Problems began when I decided to upgrade to 6Gb of ram and to install Vista 64. Ram modules witch I bought are the same Corsair Dominator PC8500C5D, but 2x2GB.
When i put them together adjust voltage 2.1v and timing 5-5-5-15 they fail mem test with huge amount of errors.
when I test only 2x2gb modules memtest sometimes doesn't open at all, sometimes just stops working on 8 minutes of test. couple of times they completed memtest without any errors.
Can someone advice what should I do and what could the problem?
    Thank you for your answers.

    1) the modules are not the same (the DDR2 chips are different)
    2) as general rule, mixing 2x1GB with 2x2GB is a bad idea.

  • P45 Platinum Optimum memory settings with 2GB Corsair 1066 memory

    Hi all,
Looking for some advice on optimum memory settings as I seem to have been getting unstable results from experimenting with settings and the optimum defaults.
    My configuration is as follows:
    MSI P45 Platinum (V1.0 PCB) (V1.4 Bios)
    Intel Dual Core Duo E8500
    Corsair TWIN2X2048-8500C5D DDR2-1066 5-5-5-15-2T configured for 2.2v in Bios
    Palit 9800GT
    2 x Maxtor 1TB HD's
    1 x Floppy + Memory card readers
    2 x Samsung DL-DVD-DW's
    Silverpower SP-400P2C 400W PSU
With the default optimised settings loaded, the system does not book reliably or pass the memory test, in fact memtest86 just hangs when booted
With the Memory configuration set to 1:1.33 (1600:1066) the systems appears to pass the memory tests and windows is relatively stable. Voltage set to 2.2volt with Spead Spectrum disabled.
Is this really the optimum configuration ? as the Adjusted DRAM Frequency reported by the bios is 887 and I was expecting to see 1066.
Any suggestions as how to optimise reliably would be appreciated.
Although I suspect I may have a PSU issue as once booted the system locks when running any 3D games/demo's and it looks liek the 9800GT's need a lot more amps that I thought when putting the system together.
    Rgds

First of all, your DDR2 modules are in fact DDR2-800 (they're using overclocked-overvolted DDR2-800 chips).
Sencondly you need to understand how a FSB/DRAM divider works.
Your processor is Intel E8500 and that means a bus frequency of 1333MHz (333MHz quad-pumped).
    In your case 1:1.33 means 1.33 x 333 x 2 = 887 MHz for the DDR2 modules.
Set the divider to 1:1.6 if you want the DDR2 modules to run at 1066MHz.
And finally, the "optimum configuration" for max system stability means real DDR2-1066 (7-7-7-20 at 1.8V) or
    DDR2-800 (5-5-5-15 at 1.8V).

i´m sorry for my english jajaja
    ok, now to the point, i have a platinum p45 with ,core 2 duo e8500 , 4 gb corsair 2 x 2 gb 800mhz dual chanel , wd 500 gb 7200 rpm , msi geforce n9800gt 512 dd3  in a 650w power cooler
i have tested all the hardware in other pcs and the only problem is the motherb
the pc freezes in all windows and not respond so i have to reboot , and several time give me te bios setup screen with the msg CMOS checksum bad
but when i put an ati graphic card the problem seems to stop
is there a compatibility issue o its a mother problem?

the bios is v 1.0.1 i just reset the bios, but with the update i have installed before it was the same thing
yes i clean the old drivers , even with the generic i have this problem , i have format and reinstalled windows as well
what specs are? the voltage is correctly set up, so is The graphic card. the geforce graphic card works well in other CPU , the ati too but in the p45 platinum only the ati works, i will try in the other slot , but my question is there is no compatibility problem between the mother platinum p 45 and Nvidia graphic cards?
my graphic card is the MSI Nvidia geforce n9800gt , the ATI is borrowed ( is not mine , i´m not sure if i said it OK :P ) but very similar in all features
BTW sorry for my english again , and thanks for the support

  • Unstable P45 Platinum!

Hi all this is my first post and i'm hoping someone can help!
I recently purchased an MSI P45 Platinum board (P45 Zilent pack) so that i could move away from my "upgrade limited" Dell PC. I also bought a new case and have used all the parts from my Dell PC with the P45 Platinum board in the new case. After doing this i now find my PC to be quite unreliable... i've left everything set to "auto" in the bios cell menu and have re-installed Windows 7 64-bit and all the latest drivers for the new motherboard.
The majority of games i try to run will just hang on the main menu! Windows 7 has also crashed a couple of times giving me a blank/black screen whilst emitting a loud buzzing sound from the speakers! The only thing that is different from my old PC is the motherboard and the case, everything else is the same and i had no issues before aprt from the fact it was a Dell !
Here are my PC specs (nothing special):
    MSI P45 Platinum motherboard
    Intel Core 2 Duo E6850 @ 3.00ghz
    4gb Corsair XMS2 CM2X2048-6400C5 DDR2 800mhz RAM (2x2gb dual channel 5-5-5-18)
500gb Western Digital SATA hard drive
2 x Powercolor ATI Radeon 4850 graphics in Crossfire (1gb each)
    Hitachi/LG DVDRW/CDRW combo drive
    USB internal multi-card reader
850W Cooler Master Real Power Pro PSU
I have updated the motherboards bios to v1.6. I have also noticed my USB card reader light stays on all the time... even when the PC is switched off?! Everything is connected correctly to the motherboard and i even plugged a cable into that badly positioned 4-pin molex PCI-E power connector (JPWI) - Do i still need to do that considering each GPU has it's own power connector and my mainboard connector is the 24-pin type?
One other thing i noticed are the incorrect memory voltages displayed in the "dual core" software - it reads 1.950V when my Corsair memory states 1.8V on the package, I even have all this set to "auto" in the bios.
Anyway sorry for the long post but i would appreciate some help with this, thanks

First of all, try with just one graphics card and see if that makes a difference.
If you've set the RAM voltage to auto then the motherboard decides what to set it to. You need to go and set it to 1.8V manually. Whilst you're there set the RAM timings manually to the specified 5-5-5-18 2T.
Thanks for the reply and advice! I done a complete re-build of the system and checked for any loose connections etc... I have also just installed 1 of the ATI cards instead of 2 but the system still remains flaky! I did as you suggested and manually set the RAM to 5-5-5-18 timings but i cannot find the option to adjust the command rate between 1T and 2T... it just does not exist in this motherboards bios. Also i cannot change any of the RAM voltages... or any other voltage for that matter as it's all greyed out in the bios??
MSI's "Dual Core Center" utilty is still displaying the wrong RAM voltages as 1.930V this time (although it highlights 1.800V in green when i click the voltage drop down menu.... so why does it not use 1.800V by default???). Any help is always appreciated, thanks
I was going to upload some bios pics but it seems this cannot be done.

  • P45 Platinum, some overclocking experience needed !

    Hi,
I have bought a new computer last winter and been busy with it all the time.. when i bought it i had problems with MY CPU and memory but both fixed, CPU with BIOS 1.4 ( at that point the most recent BIOS ) and memory fixed with the help of some other guy with the same problem and the same hardware.
When all that was fixed and my PC runned stable i began overclocking the CPU by taking off the FSB jumpers so it wouldn't run on 333 MHZ but 400 MHZ FSB.
Now i wanna know if someone has experience with overclocking a Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 on a P45 platinum, my CPU is now running on 3.4 GHZ ( stand 2.83 GHZ )  and I wanna know if a Vmod is nessecary need to get it to.. lets say 3.6 to 3.8 GHZ ?
I also want to know if someone has overclocked his Corsair Dominators above 1066 MHZ and how he did it, because nothing is working for me ( little changes direcly give BSODS etc. )
    Thanks for everyones time,
    Tim

Try your overclock first by setting your memory to 5.5.5.15 at 800MHz. This will eliminate or at least minimise any possible memory instabilities that are more than apparant in the forum when trying the 1066 overclock. If you are succesful, let me know, as I have the same set up, except that I have OZC Reapers. I must say that my 3,4 GHz (I have followed the same route as you via the jumpers) has not encountered a program or game yet that yielded unsatisfactory results. In actual fact my average frame rate in Far Cry 2 allgraphics maxed out runs between 70 and 80 fps. (MSI 9800GTX+). Unless you are running some scientific programs that need speeding up or you want to increase a theoretical benchmark, I wonder if the extra ,2 or,4 GHz will justify the potential temp increase or possible instabilities. But please advise once you have achieved that, what your system settings are what the percentage temp increase is on your CPU. I would be interested as I am too conservative at this stage to go beyond the 3,4.

  • P45 Platinum - Overclocking Core2 Duo & Ram

    Hi all,
I recently got a P45 Platinum.  Have had alot of bother with it todate.  It started off when it recognised my memory at 800Mhz when infact it was 1066 DDR2 Dominator.  Bios update version 1.1 looked like I could set it too 1066 on auto but it still recognised it as 800mhz.  However Bios update 1.1 would not boot with my Nvidia GX2.  Cured that got the beta 1.2b and all works well.
However I am running 3dMarks06 and the max I pushed out of my system was 15000 :-( .  Was kind of hoping for bit more, still very laggy in crysis at times.
I am thinking about pushing a little more outta my CPU but if i fiddle with the CPU FSB currently default 333 it does not boot right and resets to be done.  I have set the voltage to 1.3 and ram 2.0.
    Any thoughts on this issue.

Your memory modules are recognized as DDR2-800 modules, because the SPD-Chips of these modules do not have an SPD-Profile for DDR2-1066 which the BIOS could detect to set memory clock speed to DDR2-1066.  Your modules present themselves as DDR2-800 modules to the BIOS (because they are basically DDR2-800 modules).  The BIOS can only read SPD profiles, not what Corsair has actually printed onto sticker that is on each module.

If you check the official Corsair datasheet for your modules, you will see that it will say that these modules were tested @1066 MHz @2.1-2.2V, not that they are DDR2-1066 modules.  At the bottom of the datesheet you will find a brief note telling you that the actual OC results "may vary".  I am not sure which memory related settings you have tried so far. If you need advice and suggestions regarding memory settings, please let us know the precise model name/number of your modules and tell us which settings you have tried so far.

  • P45 Platinum memory issue(s)

I've experienced some trouble getting my Corsair DOMINATOR TWIN2X-2048-8500C5DF G ver 1.1 memory modules to work as intended, ie at 1066 MHz
(PCB ver 1.1 , E8400 at stock speed)
BIOS ver 1.0 would not POST correctly, hanging at "Memory detection Test"
After reading alot in Phily7 thread (same issues), I decided to try BIOS ver 1.1b5
Some improvements. POST is now ok, and no need to manually reset CMOS everytime I've fiddled with the memory settings
Tried DRAM voltages up to 2.196 Volts, but still the MB only recognises and threat them as 800MHz (Corairs home page says ver 1.X @2.2V, ver 2.X @2.1V)
Tried to adjust the FSB/DRAM to 1333/1066, which causes the MB to reset itself until it says "The previous performance..."
Tried by advice of "Jack the Newbie" to adjust memory timings to 5-5-5-18, Spread Spectrum disable and tRFC=53, which also ended up with " The previous.."
    Everest (trial version 4.5) read memory timings to @ 400 MHz   5-5-5-18  (CL-RCD-RP-RAS) / 23-51-3-6-3-3  (RC-RFC-RRD-WR-WTR-RTP)
    Any suggestion would be appricited?
    (Sorry for rusty english...)

Yup, the thread was about getting all 4 memory modules up to 1066.
    I'm now running 4Gigs(2*2) of Corsair DOMINATOR 6400CL4 at 2.1V - flawlessly :-)
The 8500 modules are on hold until a new BIOS is aviable, I don't wanne waste anymore time trying to make them work for now.

  • P45 Platinum [MS-7512] booting and crashing issues

    Hello all,
Upgraded my PC with new hw and faced with annoying problem:
I can boot it only 1 time of 20-30 (roughly) attempts, the typical symptoms are (word-for-word from https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=118779.0 post):
All the led of (group 1,3 and 4) turns red and group 2 turns green. According to the manual it says ''memory detection test. Testing onboard memory size. The D-LED will hang if the memory module is damage or not installed properly.''
Problem arose after I'd replaced ATI HD3850 with nVidia GTX260, no other changes were made.
Tested another pair of DIMMs - the same behaviour.
    My config:
    Intel E8400 / MSI P45 Platinum [MS-7512 PCB 1.0] / Corsair XMS2 [TWIN2X4096-8500C5DF] 4096Mb (2x2048Mb) PC2-8500 1066MHz DDR2 / Inno3D nVidia GeForce GTX260 / Hyper 620W PSU / 4 HDDs / Creative X-Fi / Windows XP Pro SP3 32bit
Initial BIOS version was 1.0, all BIOS settings are default (used load default optimal settings), no overclocking.
After MSI released version 1.1 I flashed it that solves problem with booting but my PC started freezing and crashing several times a day, also tried other beta version found there https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=117741.0 :
    1.2b4 - the same as 1.1
P.0b16 - testing now no crashes still
Again, all BIOS settings are default, no overclocking, BIOS flashed with CMOS clearing and loading default optimal settings.
    Any suggestions?
    Regards,
    colibri

Because of both - motherboard and DIMMs support 1066MHz, memory works on 1066Mhz by default, in my case under heavy loads (games for example) PC freezes or reboots randomly.
After changing FSB/DRAM ratio to 1:1.2 (800Mhz for DRAM) as Jack the Newbie suggested (thanks!) system became stable.
The question what about 1066Mhz remains open, different BIOS versions set different voltages to DRAM (version 1.0 - less than 2.1V and system doesn't boot with 1066Mhz DDR2 which needs 2.1V (correct me if i'm wrong, don't want to reflash just to check this statement) - versions 1.1 and later set 2.1V - which is perfect for overclocked DDR2 but doesn't assure stable system in my case. BTW I haven't tested with 2.2V yet may be it helps.

  • P45 Platinum - Vista works just fine, but unable to get into BIOS

This is my first build, so I'm still learning a lot. Be kind!
I'm using the P45 Platinum with an Intel Core 2 Duo 3.0ghz Wolfdale cpu, 2 2gb sticks 1066mhz G-Skill ram, a Corsair 750w PSU, EVGA Nvidia 8800GTS video card, a 74gb WD Raptor HDD and a 250gb WD Caviar HDD (both SATA). I'm currently running 32bit Vista until 64bit has more support.
I have never been able to access the BIOS - before Vista was installed the splash screen was too fast so I kept missing my oppurtunity to enter BIOS, so I went ahead and put in the Vista install DVD. It installed just fine - it doesn't see my second HDD, but I expected that due to it being SATA.
I want to enter the BIOS to disable the audio so I can download the new Realtek audio drivers (I have no sound, even after installing the driver off the CD), but when I start up the computer and hit DEL (when prompted), it takes me to the Windows Boot Manager. Several times I have repeated the process and every time it takes me to the boot manager instead of the BIOS. The BIOS is obviously working, I just can't access it.
    Any help is appreciated.

Simply keep hitting  >DEL< as soon as the Splash screen appears.  If that doesn't help, clear CMOS with main A/C power cable removed from PSU.  Upon restart the system should hold with a CMOS Checksum error and give you the chance to hit F1 to enter BIOS Setup.  Now you can load "Optimized Defaults" and disable the BOOT LOGO.

    Hi
i have a p45 platinum motherboard. For some reason the board just wont start up anymore, it was working fine.
when i plug it in, the power led glows, but when i hit the power button (on the board) some if not all of the leds, glow for like one second and then, nothing.
Any idea what could be the issue ? is it fixable ?

    Q8200 2.66@ 3.01Ghz
    2*1GB DDR2 Ram 800Mhz @ 860Mhz
Overclocking means accelerated death, but that 10% level is not quite a dangerous one.
Did you overclock them more than 10% in the past?
And if yes, how much and for how long?
Try to borrow another processor and another DDR2 module and see how it goes.

  • Doubt about overclocking with p45 platinum

    hi guys
i have a Q8200 processor and an MSI p45 platinum motherboard.
now the multiplier on the processor is 7
    now using a a bus speed of 400mhz i was able to achieve a 400 * 7 = 2.8Ghz on my processor from 2.33
now when i use cpuZ it shows that im currently running at 1600fsb
now as per the board specs 1600 fsb is the maximum.
now does this mean that i wont be able to overclock further ?
i am currently using transcend 800 mhz DDR2 ram
i have the memory divider set at 1:1
so the rams are running at 800mhz
now if i try to further overclock the board, it results in a no boot. i get a single green light and rest 3 are red and the mother board restarts 3 times and then i get the overclock failed message could some 1 advise me on how to go further increase my overclock ?
i have tried to increase my processor voltage and my ram voltage by quite a bit (not over the safe limit though) but still not able to boot :(

This just states that Processors that natively run @400 MHz FSB Clock Speed are supported.  It has nothing to do with overclocking margins.
Try this for a quick test:
    - turn off the system
    - remove both OC Jumpers to force the FSB Clock Speed to 400 MHz
    - Clear CMOS with main A/C power cable removed from PSU
See if the system boots and runs stable.  If it does, use the BIOS for further overclocking from the 400 MHz Strap.  As you are forced to overclock your memory modules as well when you raise the FSB Clock Speed beyond 400 MHz try raising the memory voltage to 1.9-2V to see if that helps.
Spread Spectrum should be enabled at all times in the Cell Menu.

  • Overclocking Q6600 with MSI P45 Platinum

    Hi again!
I need some advice regarding my OC settings.
Unfortunately, im an unlucky owner of the infamous Q6600 L8XX batch which has a high VID (1.3250v)
Anyway, I was able to reach 3GHz stable with these settings:
MSI P45 Platinum official v1.5 bios
Motherboard OC Jumper set to: default
    ================================
    C1E: Disabled
    Green Power: All Disabled

    Multi-Step OC Booster: Mode 1
    DOT Control: Disabled

My goal is set at 3GHz and to get a lower cpu voltage (lower than my current 1.3175v), but anything below 1.3175v restarts when i stress test using OCCT. I've run memtest and it's ok. Can anybody advise which voltage I can configure to lower my cpu voltage? Also, is 333 x 9 to achieve 3GHz better? Or should I go with 375 x 8? Thanks! Btw, I plan to maintain these settings for the remainder of my CPU's life..  :D

thanks for the tip. i'm currently logging all my OC settings in an excel file. i just finished played an hour of COD4 without any restarts or instability. currently my settings are just the same except CPU voltage is at 1.344v and i reduced my Dram voltage to 2.0v. running memtest for over an hour, 2 passes already with no errors. i'll stress test it over the weekend.
i have a question though. a lot of people are suggesting a 1:1 FSB/DRAM ratio. but using 333x9 settings @ 1:1, you get 667.. i'm using 2x 2GB GeiL PC6400 800, that's why i used the 1:1.2 FSB/DRAM ratio to get 800. is it ok to keep using the 1:1.2 FSB/DRAM ratio even though people say 1:1 is the ideal ratio? many thanks for the reply
