P45 Platinum Q9550 boot/bios problem

Guys,
I've recently built a machine with a P45 Platinum board and Q9550 CPU. It has a Corsair 650w PSU, 4gb Corsair ram and a Samsung 1.5tb HDD. GPU is 2x Radeon HD4770 crossfire setup. I'm running Windows 7.
The problem is, when I first boot the machine it starts up and then I get the windows 'blue screen' and it tries to reboot, but does the same thing over and over. If I press the the reset CMOS button it wil then boot fine, and will switch on and off fine all day, until the next morning, when it does the same thing over again.
Any ideas anyone?

Just quick add:-
Bios is upto date?
I was running bios 1.5, now updated to 1.6. I've also pulled the jumpers so the FSB runs at 400mhz and set the RAM settings to what the Corsair data sheet says for 1066Mhz, (5-5-5-15, 2.1v) and it seems to be stable. It shows 1067Mhz still though, but I'm guessing this is right?
I'm not that mad for overclocking, but it seems happy at 3.4ghz, CPU temp is about 42 degrees.

  • P45 Platinum - not booting

    Hi guys,
I built my PC in 2009 and have had 2 years of trouble free running from it.  This month it has started giving me grief!
Every time I turn it on it just repeatedly reboots after around 5 seconds.  When I press the power button all the fans spin up as do the HDD's.  There are no beeps from the motherboard and no BIOS info appears on my monitor.  It just reboots, spins everything up then reboots again etc.
I have been able to start it each time by switching the PSU off, pressing the clear CMOS button then switching back on. I've been doing this every day for about 2 weeks now.
Today it got worse.  I cleared the CMOS with the button on the back and tried to boot the system.  This time everything spins up but it doesn't reboot now.  It just runs the fans and HDD's indefinitely, until I switch the system off.  No beeps from the motherboard, no BIOS info on the monitor.  I tried clearing the CMOS again but it just does the same.  This happened once last week but I left it disconnected from the power supply overnight and I was able to switch the system on again.
When the system does switch on it runs perfectly, no error message, no slowdown etc.
The motherboard has the latest BIOS version according the MSI website, v1.60.
I'm nor sure where to start looking for a fault. I think I'm just about ready to throw it out the nearest window

  • P45 Platinum/Zilent with 8800GT problem

Windows Vista Home Premium SP1 32 bit
    HEC Winpower 550AB
I was watching this board for a few days now but I haven't had seen any post with a similar problem.  I've already tried bios 1.1, 1.2 and the beta bios 1.22.  What happens is when I run a game, it will close a few minutes later and Vista will show a "nvlddmkm stopped responding" error.  This happens with forceware version 175.19, 177.79 and 177.83.  With forceware 169.25 though, I can play a game normally.  If not for the specific driver version that works, I might have suspected it's a power supply problem.  I was fine with using the older driver, but now that they released the new driver with Physx support, I want to update.
Someone in another forum said that he was able to make his 8800GT Sonic work with beta bios v. 1.24, but had problems with beta 1.23.  I don't have the 1.24 bios to test yet to see if it'll fix the issue.
I'm aware of the 8800Gt having issues with older boards with PCI-E v1 but since this board has PCI-E 2.0, this should not be the case.  I've also tried putting the card into the second PCI-E slot but encountered the same problem.  The 6 pin power connector is properly connected to the video card, and I even tried connecting a 4 pin molex to the connector above the PCI-E slot (which I know is used as extra power for Crossfire configuration).
So.. anybody encountered this problem too?  Any solutions (other than getting an ATI card).

Quote from: NovJoe on 20-August-08, 14:43:39
This is more of a driver issue with the OS rather than the board issue.
Normally, that would be my conclusion too, except that I did a few more tests:
    8800GT + another computer on XP + forceware 175.19 = normal
8800GT + another computer on Vista + forceware 174.xx (driver that came with the CD) = normal
    7600GT + P45 Platinum + forceware 175.19 = normal
    8800GT + P45 Platinum + forceware 169.25 = normal
    8800GT + p45 Platinum + forceware 174.xx/175.19/177.79/177.83 = "nvlddmkm stopped responding" error
What I'm asking from other users though is if they managed to use an 8xxx/9xxx series on this board with the latest drivers without encountering error on games, and what bios version they were using.  The just-released official 1.3 bios even included a compatibility fix with the Geforce 9xxx series.   Flashed mine yesterday but didn't solve my problem.

I have this MS GD65(B3) mobo (1.1a Latest Bios), and a Logitech G110 keyboard and whenever i start my computer or restart it automatically boots into the bios!  I have to unplug it to start windows :(  Can somebody please help me?

They all have the same problem :(  Thanks Trev.

Your link confirms a definite firmware issue with the keyboard, and as such, this needs to be addressed with Logitech firstly.
You also should list your complete system >>Posting Guide<<
Please also report your findings to MSI directly, to allow them to replicate the problem and see if they can perhaps address this in conjunction with Logitech. >>How to contact MSI.<<

  • K8N SLI Platinum - CD-ROM - BIOS problem?

    Hi all,
I'm having a few problems with a new PC and I would be grateful for any help you can offer me.
The symptoms are: both DVD drives show up in Windows device manager, but when a CD or DVD is inserted, the discs do not read the content.  Drive D (set up as the master on IDE1) does not show any content and Drive E (set up as slave on IDE1) asks for a CD to be inserted when I try to view the contents with Explorer.
When I got the system, all was working correctly (CDs and DVDs were working correctly).  However, some faulty RAM caused the system to crash.  At this point I reset the BIOS back to its factory defaults (my mistake as this didn't need to  be done).  When fresh RAM was installed the machine was fine, but I discovered this CD problem a couple of days later.  I do not know whether the BIOS reset caused it, or whether some part of Windows has been corrupted.
So far, I have tested the DVD drives in another system, and they work correctly.  When set as a boot device the master DVD is working on the problematic system.
The DVD set up as master reports that it is on the primary ATA channel and the slave is on the secondary ATA channel.
As i would like to rule the BIOS setting in or out as the problem, could someone tell me how my BIOS should be set up for a single SATA hard drive and two DVD drives connected to IDE?
Thanks for any help - system specs are as per my sig.

Oh well they were the usual suspects.
Only time i've had something similar is if you have installed some dvd/cd writing imaging software. has this issue been present b4 adding any such software.
May be worth deleting the drives in control panel rebooting & let xp find them again, in case Quote
Windows that has chucked a wobbly...

  • K9a Platinum 1.7 bios problem

Hi, I was previously running bios v1.3 without any problems, today I flashed to bios 1.7 as I am planning on using 4gb ram soon with windows xp x64.
Well I flashed to 1.7 ok, then cleared cmos and loaded bios defaults.
Rebooted and then loaded optimized defaults and configured the bios settings identical to the settings I had in bios 1.3. With the exception of HTlink i set this from auto to 1ghz as cpu-z was showing htlink running at 200mhz instead of 1000mhz.
Then after booting in to windows for 3-4 minutes my system powers down completely and the power led is flashing and system is off.
I am not overclocking this board and I never had this issue with bios 1.3 anyone experienced this?

Quote from: msiguy on 25-October-07, 14:14:53
i think i experienced this once. my computer simply cut off and wouldn't power on for about 1 minute.  the cause ended being this 3rd party program i dled. it was a temp monitor for dual cores that displayed the temp in the taskbar. i got it off this site actually. it was easy to diagnose since i just installed and ran it be4 the shutdown. good thing too b/c i was going to put it in my startup folder :(
    Hi Msiguy
Was the application you was using called coretemp? if so I am using that program to monitor my temps as corecenter will not work under xp x64. I have done some research on coretemp and people are reporting shutdown problems on some amd systems. I also have it in my startup folder!! I guess it never affected me when running bios 1.3. I think your issue was caused by coretemp and mine could be as well, can you confirm that it was coretemp that was giving you the shutdown problem?

  • 945P Neo Platinum IDE or bios problem

Ive just fitted a maxtor diamondmax 10 160G hdd as a second drive to my pc, the hdd was previously in an external case, had no problems, now that it is connected to ide 2 on the mobo the transfer rate is incredibly slow, about 30 mins for a 4.5g DVD, ive looked in the bios changed the ide controller to ide instead of raid, i also checked device manager but cant seem to see anything wrong, any ideas

Tried Hd Tach i got 2.2Mb per sec, removed the drive tried it on usb and got 35Mb, will try installing the via controller, i thought the floppy was only for the raid drivers.
Thanks will let you know how i get on

  • P45 platinum zilent ed-spdif problem

hello, its my first time to post here.
anyway, im having problem with my motherboard. i have a HTPC set up, i just bought a denon avr, and my problem is the spdif output from the mobo is not detected by the avr, supposed to be it will display on the screen of the avr saying "digital", so i checked the sound config of the pc and it its not detecting/showing the spdif plug also, unlike those in the 3.5mm jack once u plug or unplug the computer will automatically detected it.
im planning to buy a soundcard but i dont want a redundant set up, my avr alone can decode HD format audio. pls help.
    TIA!

Just to make it clear my pic/screenshot was from the PDF manual which is in fact the same as what my P35 manual has. I also can not find the setting for digital out on mine using W7.
OK i just found it. Go to Control Panel and click on Hardware & Sound and then Sound and you will get the window in pics below. I never used this section for S/PDIF so it took a while for me to figure it out.
Right click on the section with the speaker icon and then in the pop up menu left click Show Disabled Devices
Next right click on the Realtek Digital Output section to get the menu and then enable digital out.

I don't think there should be such an option for SATA devices (?).
But you might want to try USB Safely Remove which claims to make it available anyway.
They just released version 4.0 last week (and gave away free 1-year licenses to celebrate that).

  • Question on P45 Platinum bios setting for "Adjust PCI Frequency (MHz)"

    System:
P45 Platinum updated to bios 1.6
Intel Q9400 CPU with Xigmatek Heatsink
    620W PSU
    8BG (2x4 slots) Cosair TWIN2X4096-8500C5D PC2-8500 1066MHz
PowerColor 1GB ATI HD 3670 Video card
System runs almost fine at the default setting.  As it boot to blank screen a few times.  Hard reset to boot into system fine.  Once a while, system just froze and need hard reboot.  But seem to stable enough (temperature around 26C)
I wanted to overclock to 3GHz.  But as I just increased FSB from 333 to 340, the system will not boot or it will boot and then locked up after logon to window.   I left everything at auto.  Do I need to set the PCI clock?  It is default at auto.

    Quote
I have to constantly change the FSB/Dram ratio to keep the RAM frequency between 800-900 for it to stable.  Otherwise, the system will reboot by itself. Is that because I used all four slot of RAM?
Well, the fact that all memory slots are populated makes the matter a little more complicated, but the main problem is elsewhere:  The Intel P45 Chipset natively only supports DDR2-667 and DDR2-800 modules.  In addition to that, your memory modules are not "real" DDR2-1066 modules, but DDR2-800 memory sticks with a permission to overclock and overvolt them to DDR2-1066 @~2.1V.
Try these settings to try to raise your memory clock speed farther:
    - Enhance Setting (Try all settings here: "Enabled", "Disabled" and "Auto")
    - DRAM Voltage = 2.1V
    - DDR_VREF_A = 0.955V
    - DDR_VREF_B = 0.955V
    - Spread Spectrum = Disabled
Usually, the reduction of the DDR Reference Voltages compensates stability problems that are related to overclocking/overvolting the memory to DDR2-1066 on this board.  There is no guarantee that it will work for you, but you may as well give it shot.

Everything else is auto and Core Center is showing:
    vcore 1.21v
    memory 1.92v

CPU temperature after an hour of usage: 23C
You don't wanna use MSI Dual Core Center for temperature monitoring.  The tool is unable to read/calculate the Core Temperatures of your processor which are based digitial sensors implemented in each processor core.  The data these sensors collect is stored in specific CPU registers that can be accessed by tools like Core Temp, Real Temp, Everest Ultimate and Speedfan (there are more tools of course).  The "CPU Temperature" value shown in BIOS and by MSI Dual Core Center are based on the readings of an analog sensor of unknown location.  It is uncertain, what this value actually refers to and it is also not very reliable.

  • P45 platinum voltage problem

I am unable to set vcore voltage any higher than it is in bios. Right now it is 1.20v. When i raise it in cell menu and reboot it stays the same. though cell menu still shows the voltage i need. I guess it happens not only with vcore, but with any voltage i try to change. I am just checking vcore with monitoring programs and it is always 1.20v. Is there any safety switch for voltages or what am i missing here? I can change any voltage in dual core center without any problem, but bios won't let me change them.
    My system specs:
    msi P45 platinum 1.0 / bios 1.4
    intel e8600
    g.skill 2x2gb 800mhz ddr2
    vista ultimate

The problem is solved. I had to change GTL REF voltage of the cpu from "auto" to some other in order for CPU voltage to go above 1.208v. With the GTL REF cpu voltage set to "auto" it was just stuck at the 1.208v and won't go up no matter what amount you set. So the problem is solved. Thanks.

  • P45 Platinum hang @ power up

    Hi,
my p45 platinum wont boot to BIOS. It gets stuck at Memory Detection Test. Cold boot gets it sometimes to "Decompressing BIOS image to RAM for fast booting.".
I'm not getting any feed to my screen.
    My build:
Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 (older rev)
    MSI P45 Platinum (BIOS v1.6)
    2x Mushkin enhanced XP2-8500 2GB
    2x Club3D radeon HD 5770
    Thermaltake Toughpower 750w cable management
    I've tried the following:
    1. cleared cmos (many times)
    2. switch the places of the memory sticks and also tried with one only
    3. uninstalled the whole build and then re-installed it (including cpu)
    4. bareboned the build (only cpu, video card and memory sticks installed)
    5. switched the video card (got 2 identical)
    6. tried even without the memory sticks
The problem is similar to what happened 2 years ago. Back then I sent the MOBO for a warranty service and it came back with a note "No problems found". I also ordered new memory sticks and they didnt help.
After 2 months of being powered off, the problem just vanished without a trace of what might've happened..
The problem came back after this:
I was uninstalling usb device drivers on Win7Pro, and I had to restart the computer because i accidentally uninstalled the mouse and keyboard and Windows wouldnt re-install them even when I changed the usb port of the forementioned devices. After restarting, the motherboard just got stuck with the 4 leds on (which indicates that the processor is damaged or not installed properly). After powering off the computer, I turned it back on, and then the motherboard got stuck to the "Memory Detection Test" phase..

Welcome to the forum (forgot to mention that earlier). I just looked up the CPU list for the P45 Platinum. What bios version do you have? Also, do you have the utility CPU-Z? What does it show for 'Stepping Revision'? If your E8400 is an E0 stepping revision, you need at least bios version 1.1 for it to work correctly. I would recommend to update the bios to the 1.5 version using the MSI HQ forum USB Flash Tool.
    Hi,
how do you know which CPU and revision is supported in which bios version? I have a E7300 revision M0 and bios v1.0. Do I need to update a bios in order to get everything work correctly? Cos I haven't had any real problems only twice computer wouldn't from a sleep mode. I am just wondering whether the bios v1.0 is right for my E7300.
update> I actually have modded bios v 1.0B1 which solves DPC latency problem.
