P45 platinum voltage problem

I am unable to set vcore voltage any higher than it is in bios. Right now it is 1.20v. When i raise it in cell menu and reboot it stays the same. though cell menu still shows the voltage i need. I guess it happens not only with vcore, but with any voltage i try to change. I am just checking vcore with monitoring programs and it is always 1.20v. Is there any safety switch for voltages or what am i missing here? I can change any voltage in dual core center without any problem, but bios won't let me change them.
My system specs:
msi P45 platinum 1.0 / bios 1.4
intel e8600
g.skill 2x2gb 800mhz ddr2
vista ultimate

The problem is solved. I had to change GTL REF voltage of the cpu from "auto" to some other in order for CPU voltage to go above 1.208v. With the GTL REF cpu voltage set to "auto" it was just stuck at the 1.208v and won't go up no matter what amount you set. So the problem is solved. Thanks.

  • P45 Platinum Voltage Readings in Speedfan & HWMonitor

I am having some problems reading the voltages (+12v, +5v, etc..) of my P45 Platinum motherboard in Speedfan and HWMonitor.
    Attached are some screenshots.
I also did a search and found this thread where jack the newbie posted screenshots about his speedfan readings: https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=121987.msg922325#msg922325
His voltage readings are also around the same range.
Is this due to a problem with our motherboard or the reading of voltages by speedfan/hwmonitor?
Could those who have the P45 Platinum do a test and see whether they get the same strange readings from the voltages too?
    Thanks in advance

Quote from: Jack the Newbie on 17-December-08, 01:03:00
Those readings are impossible readings.  No system would be able to function with the +12V level dropping to 1.23V.  It is simply impossible.  Both of the tools show wrong readings, which is not the fault of the board but a problem with those tools.  Check the voltage levels in BIOS, or, even better:  use a multimeter.
Thanks Jack the newbie. And thank you youeffsee for testing on your board. That shld be proof that I'm not the only one facing this issue and my board is not bad. Phew...
I knew those were ridiculous readings. The readings in BIOS are perfect. If those tools are bad, are there any that currently read the voltages correctly on the P45 Platinum? Besides MSI's own DualCore Center of course. Being able to monitor voltages in Windows without a multimeter sticking out of the casing would be nice.
And does anyone know what the other voltages/temperature sensors are reading? Thanks again.

  • P45 Platinum Raid Problems

    Hello Guys,
i have some problems with my MSI p45 Platinum. I have Random freeze when i configure 2 Raid on it.
    Here my configuration:

    MAIN DISK: 3 * Hitachi Deskstar 250gb RAID-0
With this all work well, and now the problem ...
    I added 3 * 500gb Hitachi Deskstar Disks
If i make a 3*500gb RAID-0, i have random hard freeze before 30 min after i start up PC
If i make a 3*500gb RAID-5, i have random hard freeze before 30 min after i start up PC
If i leave 3*500gb No Raid, all work well ...
I'm working on this problem from some months as you can see on my old topics... and finally i isolated the problem but, What is the problem?
Any incompatibility with >1tb disks on Win 7?

Do a check to see if there is any latest RAID driver for your board.
    Hello,
I updated BIOS to 1.6 and i have latest driver (updated 3 days ago) for Chipset / and Intel Matrix Storage downloaded from MSI site ...
Can any malfunctions on any HardDisks or Intel Matrix Storage make only the 2nd raid-mode not work? Is there any test i can do for discover it?

  • P45 Platinum boot problem!!!

    PC specs in signature below!!
Ok, this is a new system, and it has been running GREAT since I started it for the first time. I am running my RAM with manual settings of 5 5 5 18/1.8v/800. Nothing is overclocked!!
Anyway, this morning I get to the office anxiously anticipating starting up my new system for a day of pristine computing. It starts up, the screen appears where you can hit "delete" to enter the bios. The screen hangs there for allot longer than I remember. Then, I get this message popping up on the screen: ''Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device''.
The first thing I did was hit Ctrl/Alt/Del to reboot and enter the bios to check my boot order. Everything was set exactly the way it is supposed to be. CD/RW first, then my OS drive. I exit out, and it boots into windows just fine.
Ok, later I decide to run check disk on my OS drive, thinking that maybe it's going bad, and the bios is having trouble seeing it. Check disk finishes, and it goes to boot into windows, and I get the ''Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device'' message again.
So, once again I hit Ctrl/Alt/Del to reboot, and it hangs on the screen where you can enter the bios. I quickly hit delete this time to enter the bios to see if my operating system drive is recognized. When I do this, it enters the bios, but hangs for awhile where it detects the hardware. Finally I can get to all the features in the bios, so I check to see if my hardware is recognized. Both my SATA hard drives do not show up as being recognized. My SATA CD/RW shows up, but not my hard drives.
So, I exit out of the bios, and it boots to windows just fine. I restart my system again to see what happens, and it boot just fine into windows.
Anyway, I went ahead and shut down my system, pulled the power plug, and cleared the CMOS. I then started the system back, entered the bios and set up all my settings, and it boots right into windows fine.
What do you think happened here?  At first I thought maybe my OS drive was going bad, but after discovering that the bios didn't see either one of my drives, I ruled that out. Plus check disk was fine on the OS drive.
    Any ideas??

Ok, I am still having an issue with this boot problem described above. Now that I have used my system allot more, I have discovered some more details. This boot problem only occurs when I plug anything into the system that gets noticed in the "boot order" in the bios. Example: USB thumb drive, external hard drive, or even swapping out an internal drive. The next time I re-boot, it fails like I described above.
Ok, here are some more experiences I have had. My system had been running great, and boot ups were working perfect. I decided I wanted to add a 3rd internal hard drive for storage. I already had my C operating system drive, and a D storage drive. I bought a large Seagate for a 3rd F storage drive. My CD/RW is listed as my E drive. So, I power my system off, and turn off the switch on the back of the PSU. I then add my 3rd hard drive and hook it all up. I power on my system. It boots to the bios screen where you hit delete to enter the bios. I enter the bios and I see all three of my hard drives. I check to make sure my boot order is correct, and save and exit the bios. As it booting, this time it hangs for a longer time at the screen where you can enter the bios. I hit the delete key to enter the bios, but it once again hangs while it tries to list all the hardware. Finally I can get to the bios setup screen, and both my C drive and D drive are not recognized, but my new Seagate is. For the record, my C drive is connected on the #1 SATA connection, my D drive is on the #2 SATA connection, and my new Seagate drive is on the #3 SATA connection. So, I select optimized defaults, save, and exit the bios. I re-enter the bios just fine and in the normal timely fashion. Now all my hardware is recognized. I set up my RAM again and other settings, and save, exit, and my system boots perfect.
So, I go about a week of perfect boot ups and no problems. I decided to buy a new larger hard drive to replace my existing C operating system drive. My plan was to install the new drive, and simply restore from a current image made from my old hard drive. I get my new C drive installed, and plugged into the #1 SATA connection on the mobo just like before. Ok, same drill......I enter the bios, and all my drives are recognized. I set my boot order, save, and exit. AGAIN, when it gets to the bios screen where you hit delete to enter the bios.....it hangs for longer than usual. I know exactly what it's doing, so I hit delete. It lags again as it starts to list hardware. Again, when I get to the setup bios screen, my C drive, and D drive are not recognized, yet my F drive is......just like before. So, both the drives connected to the #1, and #2 SATA connections on the mobo are not seen in the bios, yet the hard drive on #3 is seen. I do the same thing again, which is load optimized defaults, save, exit, and re-enter the bios again just fine. All drives are seen, I set up my personal settings, and all is well again.
The last time it happened was when I connected my USB thumb drive. Same exact scenario. The thumb drive shows up, and my F drive with the C drive and D drive missing again.
Any ideas??  The system will run just great now the way it is. But, the second I stick my thumb drive in, or an external hard drive, my C and D drive will disappear on next boot. If I kept the thumb drive and external drive connected, and just loaded optimized defaults, then rebooted and loaded my personal setting, I would never have the boot problem again. It just doesn't like me disconnecting, and re-connecting hardware I guess.
About the only thing I can think of to try is connecting my C and D drive to different SATA connections. But, even if that worked, it wouldn't fix the problem.

  • Problem with MSI P45 Platinum DDR2 mainboard and Corsair Dominator PC8500C5D Ram

Hi, I have encountered with a problem.
    First I had
    MSI p45 platinum ddr2 bios ver. 1,4
    Intel E8400
    Corsair Dominator PC8500C5D 2x1Gb
2 Asus ATI EAH 3870 Crossfire
and it was running with windows XP without any problems.
Problems began when I decided to upgrade to 6Gb of ram and to install Vista 64. Ram modules witch I bought are the same Corsair Dominator PC8500C5D, but 2x2GB.
When i put them together adjust voltage 2.1v and timing 5-5-5-15 they fail mem test with huge amount of errors.
when I test only 2x2gb modules memtest sometimes doesn't open at all, sometimes just stops working on 8 minutes of test. couple of times they completed memtest without any errors.
Can someone advice what should I do and what could the problem?
    Thank you for your answers.

    1) the modules are not the same (the DDR2 chips are different)
    2) as general rule, mixing 2x1GB with 2x2GB is a bad idea.

i have tested all the hardware in other pcs and the only problem is the motherb
the pc freezes in all windows and not respond so i have to reboot , and several time give me te bios setup screen with the msg CMOS checksum bad
but when i put an ati graphic card the problem seems to stop
is there a compatibility issue o its a mother problem?

the bios is v 1.0.1 i just reset the bios, but with the update i have installed before it was the same thing
yes i clean the old drivers , even with the generic i have this problem , i have format and reinstalled windows as well
what specs are? the voltage is correctly set up, so is The graphic card. the geforce graphic card works well in other CPU , the ati too but in the p45 platinum only the ati works, i will try in the other slot , but my question is there is no compatibility problem between the mother platinum p 45 and Nvidia graphic cards?
my graphic card is the MSI Nvidia geforce n9800gt , the ATI is borrowed ( is not mine , i´m not sure if i said it OK :P ) but very similar in all features
BTW sorry for my english again , and thanks for the support

    P45 Platinum
    Asus EAH4670
    2x500G WD5000AAKS
I have problem with start up of my comp when i use all 4 sticks at 1066MHz. When i use 2 sticks only i don't have any problems at [email protected]
When i try to start pc with 4 sticks at 5-5-5-15@[email protected] nothing, my pc won't start.
I have NO problem when i start it with 4 sticks and 5-5-5-15@[email protected], everything is fine.
Maybe i need give a little more voltage to MCH, but i'm not sure.
Have anyone tried 8GBs on P45 Platinum with more than 800MHz.
    Thanks in advance!

    For two reasons:
    1) you don't have real DDR2-1066 (the modules you have are overclocked & overvolted DDR2-800)
    2) with 4 memory modules, any DDR2/DDR3 controller (northbridge) gets into speed limitation.
In conclusion: 8GB (4x2GB DDR2-800 5-5-5-15 at 1.8V) is the best choice (presuming you don't have any stability issue).

No matter how many u rise voltage at vcore, vtt, vmch, etc. and lower multiplier (also ratio 1:1) its always unstable. If i could not wrong, i heard many guys out there seems problem too, and that because the bios boards issue? I find something wrong with bios 1.51, my quads its too high temp than real and i cant set vcore over 1.19 and vmch over 1.35

    Check the temperatures with CoreTemp.
ahaa.. u got right intuition Aaron. Well, i check up temp with 2 model. First, as ur suggest using with Core Temp 0.99.4, and the second with HWmonitor Ver. 1.08. But too bad i cant post the pic in here because my internet connection bandwitch is very, very slow.... (oh god, i waste the time for upload it) :-(
I strap fsb to 400 (3.4Ghz) and averything i set it auto (nothing more OC, just only strap fsb)
On the Core Temp shows 42C at idle (1.1 Vcore), and various temp core1-4 between 41-44C. and with HWmonitor its shows 48C (1.09 Vcore) at idle and various temp core1-4 between 46-49C. And last in bios, vcore always show between 50-52C
Ok, now which better i trust? .. lol
and.. oh ya aaron, if u dont mine can u tell me ur setup in cell menu to OC ur quad 9450 at x48 boards? I know its different chipset but just for compare.
    Thx for ur help again.

  • Problem with P45 Platinum during POST

    Good day!
I have MSI P45 Platinum mainboard and from to time to time it freezes during POST with AMI bios POST code - 423C. This happens right after the message that "4096MB OK" and before the detection of SATA/IDE drives.  When this happens, the only way to make the system run is to turn off the power (pressing Ctrl-Alt-Del of Reset would result in the same error)  - after that the POST procedure finishes correctly and I don't experience any problems afterwards (system is rock-solid after POST completion).
So my question is - can anyone explain me what does this post code mean (D-Leds are not much of a help)? Is this a mobo problem or may be there is some kind of incompatibility with my hardware. I should mention also that I've tried all versions of Bios both official and beta without any success.
This problem does not trouble me that much (doesn't happen often), but still I would like to understand what may cause it.
    P.S. My system config - iC2D E8300/MSI P45 Platinum/4x1Gb DDR2-800 Geil Black Dragon (5-5-5-15)/MSI Radeon 4870 1Gb OC edition/HDD 250 Gb WD + 120Gb Seagate/SB Audigy 4/DVD-RW Asus 1814/PSU TT Toughpower 700w (w0105)
Thanx in advance and please excuse my poor English

    Thank you for the reply!

What is your current BIOS Version?
I've recently flashed the latest beta bios version - 1,5 beta 6... but it produces the same error as did the latest official bios v1.4
    Quote from: Jack the Newbie
Does the same problem occur with only one memory module installed?
I don't know actually. But thanks for pointing this out  - I will test the system with one (and then with two) module(s). I've tested the modules with the memtest86+ software (the latest version, which supports P45 chipset) several times and it showed no errors. So the modules are OK and they worked without any problems with my previous mb (Gigabyte P35-DS3).
    Quote from: Jack the Newbie
What do the POST-Status LEDs of the board tell you, when the system freezes at the described stage?
Well, I guess I don't fully understand what does the combination of LEDs tell during the freeze. I'll try to describe the combination -
    LED12 - OFF           LED13 - GREEN
    LED8 - RED             LED7 - OFF
    LED14 - OFF           LED10 - GREEN
    LED15 - RED           LED11 - OFF
In mobo's manual this diagnostic LEDs are grouped in 4 groups and the description of the group that most closely resembles my case is - "Testing base and Extended memory etc." But I'm not sure that I'm identifying the problem correctly, because of the LEDs that are OFF.
    Quote from: Jack the Newbie
Are you experiencing any freeze and/or stability problems appart from the described problem?
No, as I said in my initial post, once it get past this stage everything is running smoothly - OS boots and all software, including the most demanding games or tests, are running OK.

    Hi,
take the board out of the case to test it on a non-conducting surface in barebone configuration (CPU, one memory stick, video card, Keyboard and power connectors, nothing else).  Make sure every kind of connection (front panel etc. to the case is removed).
Then clear CMOS with main A/C power cable removed from PSU and try to power-Up the board.  Try both of the following methods to power-up the system:
    1. use the little red onboard-power-on-button (make sure you don't confuse it with the reset button)
    2. shorten the two pins of the board's pin header that are usually hooked up to the case's power-on button with a screwdriver

    a well known problem.
I remember reading about this issue before I built my P45 Platinum system. I made sure during the build that the button was not being pressed by the i/o shield.

  • Msi p45 platinum power up problems

Hey guys, i have got a fairly new system i think its about 2 months old
    e8400 e0
    msi p45 platinum bios 1.71beta
    4g kit 1066 kingston hyperx
    palit 1g 4870
    huntkey 650w psu
Okay so heres the deal, the computer was running at 3.6ghz, stable for the past 2 months.
I have tried 4ghz with almost every possible combination of volts, but it passed prime 95 for about 36 hours 1 day, and the next have a random reboot
I also noticed that my psu was making this weird whining noise so i just ordered and installed a pc power and cooling 750w.
To my happyness comp booted up at 4ghz and seemd stable enough for 2 hours. (just searching net and stuff) then boom, comp turns off.
okay so i thought maybe it wasnt stable. tried to reboot but to no avail. all i get is about half a second when my fans try to spin up but then it just cuts off again.
i have tested the usual out of box, 1 stick of mem, clear cmos with power cord removed, removed battery for 10 minutes but nothing. Also did the same with the old psu which was working.
All that happends is it trys to start, eg leds everywhere flicker and i mean flicker there is no way i can see what order. Im refering to the 8 leds down the bottom. the flick on then off.
After trying to start it up once, i wont get another chance to start it. eg i have to remove the power and wait till the power is completly gone from the system b4 i can try again and only have the same thing happen.
    Thanks for your help guys

Something may have been damaged during overclocking.  What voltages did you work on when you overclocked the system to ~4GHZ?  What where your temperatures?

  • P45 Platinum + Kingston HyperX KHX8500D2K2/2G Problem

    Hi!
I bought a P45 Platinum + Kingston HyperX KHX8500D2K2/2G Memory Kit + CPU Intel E8400 Duo Core. I can't get my system running at 1066Mhz. I upgraded bios to version 1.2 but it still doesn't work. I set many configs but windows xp does not boot or the machine keeps rebooting.
    Any ideas? Thanks.

I have the same set of memory modules.  The proper settings for DDR2-1066 clock speed vary between BIOS Version [after all DDR2-1066 for these modules is a double overclock: memory controller beyond specs and memory chips beyond specs]. I never had problems to get both of these sticks  to POST in Dual Channel mode on this board.  DDR2-1066 can be tricky with some BIOS Versions but DDR2-800 has to be possible at all times with all Versions (at least, that never was a problem in my case).
The Bottom line is:  If you can't get your system to get through POST @DDR2-800 MHz with both modules in dual channel configuration, one of the follwing explanation to come to mind:
    - short circuit within the case affecting one of the memory slots [test the board outside the case on a non-conducting surface]
    - defective memory slot [if you have tested in Slot 1 & 3, try Slot 2 & 4 and see if anything changes]
    - faulty modules [maybe one of them [did all 10 memtest tests pass on each module without errors?]
