P45 Platinum won't start

Hi. I have a P45 Platinum board that was working fine until last night when I moved it into a new case. No components changed. My set up is currently:
Intel e8400
Diamond HD 4850
4 GB Patriot PDC22G8500ELK
Creative X-Fi Fatality
2x 36GB Raptor (striped)
2x 500GB Seagate Barracuda (mirrored)
PC Power and Cooling Silencer 610W PSU
Right now the video card, sound card, and memory are all removed and it doesn't make a difference...
Prior to switching cases I did not have an issue with start-up.
The problem is that whenever I turn on the power, my fans spin up for about half a second, a few LEDs turn on, and then immediately everything goes off. A few seconds later it repeats.
I've triple-checked my PSU connections to the mobo and they're definitely plugged in.
Any thoughts would be much appreciated...

Yes, that is correct. The board powers up now but apparently, per the manual, the code it's giving me (LED groups 1-4 all red) is that my CPU is damaged or installed incorrectly. I'm really hoping this isn't the case but I guess I'll have to look into it when I get home... luckily I have a spare mobo/CPU I can use for testing.
Anyone know any other reason to get that error? Hopefully not involving a damaged CPU?

P45 Platinum won't POST with full memory banks

I have 4 identical 2GB DDR2-800 modules. If I install 2 the system runs fine. If I install 4 the system will not POST, hangs with the memory code. I am replacing an old P35 Platinum that had exactly the same problem (though I was using 1GB modules with that instead of these 2GB modules). 2 modules fine. It doesn't matter which 2. 4 modules bad. Won't POST. Is there some setting that prevents you from using both banks unless you change it?

They are PNY Optima. I am running them at the default timings (I think the default is for BIOS to handle it itself with SPD). I probably wasn't clear before but both modules are installed in the same bank (both in orange or both in green). I just can't fill more than one bank and get it to POST. These modules all work fine independently. There is some board/BIOS issue that is not allowing me to use both banks. I had the same exact problem with my P35 Platinum with different modules. I could run one pair, but not two pair.

P35 Platinum won't start up

Yesterday I flashed the BIOS with the latest official update and computer started normally. Only windows came up with some strange errors. So I wanted to reinstall windows but in the BIOS I couldn't select my Lite-On drive to be first to boot. In fact my BIOS didn't see it at all. So I cleared the CMOS again and went to the Boot Sequence part in the BIOS and now he was there again. I didn't change it for now because I first wanted to set in the Integrated Peripherals -> I/O devices -> RAID Mode to RAID and restart it again. So I did.
And there there was nothing, no beeps nothing. Nothing on the screen. Lights are burning on the board.
According to burning LEDs and the the manual the board is "Decompressing BIOS image to RAM for fast booting".
I pressed the Clear CMOS button multiple times, took out the battery, took off the powersupply. -> didn't change anything.
What else can I do?

What do you mean by faulty BIOS?
I used this BIOS version: http://global.msi.com.tw/index.php?func=downloaddetail&type=bios&maincat_no=1&prod_no=1212 with the flashtool 1.14a
And after flashing, it worked, I could see in the BIOS that is version 1.3xxxx in te System Information.

P965 Platinum Won't Start

My setup is:
MSI P965 Platinum Limited
Core 2 Duo E6600
Patriot 2x1GB DDR2-800 (4-4-4-12)
BFG GeForce 8800GTS 320MB OC
Antec True Power 2.0 380W 3.3V/28A 5V/35A 12V/16A
WD 2x 150GB SATA1.5
The mobo, the cpu, the ram and the vid card are all new.
Everything connected, when I turn the PSU on, and hit the switch, nothing happens; no fans turn on, or otherwise. I've tested the external cable to be fine, as well as any wall sockets.
To make sure it wasn't my PSU, I tried plugging the ATX 24pin into my old mobo, which is a 20pin, along with the ATX 4pin and my PSU turned on fine, as well as my old cpu fan, etc. When I left the ATX 4pin on the P965, my new cpu fan lit up as well as half my peripherals (ata dvd burner, but not slave ata dvd rom; graphics card fan also did not turn on despite the ATX 6pin plugged into the card).
I read the manual suggested a 450W PSU, is it that my current PSU doesn't have enough juice to start up my system? Or worse, is it possible the ATX 24pin slot is damaged?

I have no trouble with the overclocking since this is only a minor overclock (2.8GHz), the only problem I have with this is it gets stuck at restart. With that 2.8GHz OC, i have the vcore @ 1.285v which was stable running 1hr Prime95. I just can't understand why it gets stuck during warm boot.. might try to experiment (400x6 = 2.4GHz) when I get home from work to see if the 400 FSB is causing this. And yes, I agree with you that it would be easier to use a lower FSB with a higher multiplier. I just wanted to try having 400 and having a perfect 1:1 ratio. I have some data suggesting a 1:1 (@ 400:400) is better than 1:1.2 or any other divider. I used Everest cache & memory bandwidth benchmark to test this. I got lower "ns" testing my RAMs (PC6400 DDR2 800) during 1:1 FSB:Ratio (400:400) vs 1:1.2 (333:400)

P45 Platinum wont start up

Hi
i have a p45 platinum motherboard. For some reason the board just wont start up anymore, it was working fine.
when i plug it in, the power led glows, but when i hit the power button (on the board) some if not all of the leds, glow for like one second and then, nothing.
Any idea what could be the issue ? is it fixable ?

Overclocking means accelerated death, but that 10% level is not quite a dangerous one.
Did you overclock them more than 10% in the past?
And if yes, how much and for how long?
Try to borrow another processor and another DDR2 module and see how it goes.

MSI P45 Platinum and Neo2-FR

P45 Platinum NEED HELP FAST PLEASE!

As you may have read previously, I was going to and I got a P45 Zilent board along with other parts. Now I have a few problems. Firstly here are the system specs:

So, when I installed everything, and turned on the PC the DOS looking environment that shows up before the OS is loaded is filled with exclamation marks on the background, and in the BIOS has dots on the background. I thought at first OMG my VGA is faulty, but then in Windows it shows perfectly good image quality and no problems what so ever...
Second problem: My PC won't reboot. When it goes to reboot, it goes through the shutdown sequence properly, but after that when it needs to restart it just hangs and the 4 indicator lights are all red. Now when it starts normally there is no hang, all the lights are green and system is working fine. But every time it restarts it hangs there and nothing happens... :S
And third on CPU Z my the PC multiplier varies and also the bus speed is too low... here is a screenshot:
Now, even though the multiplier changes when PC under load, and I read it is some kind of power saving option, the BUS remains that low :S
Please help me fast, please.

There is no real need to disable that function. After all, it is a feature of your processor, you paid for it and the Multiplier should switch back to default as soon as you CPU gets something to do. It will only drop to x6 when the system is IDLE to save power and keep the temperatures low. There should not be any performance sacrifices. Keep in mind that the Core Voltage is reduced as well. This is all intended to for the benefit of your Processor and therefore for you, after all.
However, if you really think that you want to disable these functions, you may want a little info on what functions are actually involved:
1) EIST = Enhanced Intel SpeedStep Technology -> The option is located in the Cell Menu. You can actually disable EIST on the OS level (and keep in enabled in BIOS). All you need to do is to turn off the Windows Power Saving Features and set everything to max. Performance. This disables SpeedStep/EIST, even when the support is still enabled in BIOS.
2) C1E Support (C1E = Enhanced Halt State) -> This feature can only be disabled in BIOS. Even if EIST is disabled (OS and/or BIOS), the C1E Feature will still be doing its job. To disable it, look in the CPU Features Section of the BIOS. You should find an option there.
In any case, my suggestion would be to keep both functions enabled. These features are actually rather good.

The standard DDR2 supply voltage is 1.8V +/-0.1V. The fact that your memory modules need to be overvolted to have a chance to run at DDR2-1066 MHz shows that they are not "real" DDR2-1066 memory modules but actually just DDR2-800 sticks with a manufacturer's permission to overclock them. Also, keep in mind that the P45 Chipset does not natively support DDR2-1066 memory modules, but DDR2-667 & DDR2-800 only.
This said, you actually need to overclock both the memory controller and the modules, which is not necessarely stable.
To increase the memory voltage, you need to manually adjust the FSB/DRAM Ratio in BIOS to 1:1.6 and manually increase the DRAM Voltage using the +/- keys of your numpad. Spread Spectrum should be disabled at all times.

Problems Powering up MSI P45 Platinum board --LED3 still flashing

I've currently started a new build using the following equipment:

MSI P45 Platinum
Intel Quad Q2600 Processor
1200 MHz patriot 2x1GB Memory
xfx 9800 HD 1GB Graphics Card
power supply Trust switching power supply ATX 400W&P4 :
220 v AC
+3.3v---20A
+12v ---18A
-12v --- 0.5A
+5v ----24A
-5v ---- /
+5v sb ---2A
Wired everything up, connected all the connectors. When I go to power up the system, I get a Red LED 3 but no fans or anything spins up. Switched out for a known good power supply and received the same problem. Not sure where to go from here?
and also i press cmos reset button and nothing happing

I remember reading about this issue before I built my P45 Platinum system. I made sure during the build that the button was not being pressed by the i/o shield.

P45 Platinum and 8GB (4x2GB A-Data Vitesta 1066+) Problem

I have problem with start up of my comp when i use all 4 sticks at 1066MHz. When i use 2 sticks only i don't have any problems at [email protected]
When i try to start pc with 4 sticks at 5-5-5-15@[email protected] nothing, my pc won't start.
I have NO problem when i start it with 4 sticks and 5-5-5-15@[email protected], everything is fine.
Maybe i need give a little more voltage to MCH, but i'm not sure.
Have anyone tried 8GBs on P45 Platinum with more than 800MHz.

For two reasons:
1) you don't have real DDR2-1066 (the modules you have are overclocked & overvolted DDR2-800)
2) with 4 memory modules, any DDR2/DDR3 controller (northbridge) gets into speed limitation.
In conclusion: 8GB (4x2GB DDR2-800 5-5-5-15 at 1.8V) is the best choice (presuming you don't have any stability issue).

P45 Platinum - OCing with FSB jumpers

Hi,
I have already had problems with my memory and you guys helped me alot so i suggested to post my new problem here,,, maybe you guys know what to do.
I have a MSI P45 platinum with Intel Q9550 but when i check the ratings with CPU-Z it says my CPU is running at 2 GHZ and only using 6.0 x multiplier... were it should be 2.83 GHZ and 8.5 x multipliere ( Stock settings ).. how is this possible and how to fix this ? also in the BIOS it says its just running normal ( 2.83 GHZ at 8.5 x ) and so thoes windows XP and vista do ( they show 2.83 GHZ. ) but i think that is normal since vista and XP see a Q9550 and tell me it runs on 2.83 GHZ when its working properly.
it is running on 1333 MHZ ( well its 1336.4 to be exact) but i think it won't hurt if its running on it right ?
what settings should i change to let it run normal ? maybe the voltage for the CPU ?
Also i was checking my BIOS for this problem but i couldn't find he multiplier option where you can OC it... or do i need to enable something for it ?

You need an Intel Extreme Edition Processor to be able to overclock the CPU by rasing the multiplier beyond standard. On all other model, all ratio higher than default are locked by Intel.

Raising the FSB Clock Speed is the only way to overclock the processor. You can try to remove the OC Jumpers of the board completely, which will force the FSB Frequency to 400 MHz via hardware. Do a CMOS Clear (with main A/C power cable removed from PSU) after removing the jumpers and see if the system will start up okay. Alternatively, you can simply raise the FSB Clock Speed in BIOS (but keep the FSB/DRAM Ratio in mind, when you do that, as the memory clock is tied to the FSB Clock via set ratios.)

P45 Platinum fan issue

I've been running a P45 Platinum mobo with an E8500 core 2 duo processor. After the initial 3 or 4 minutes of usage, the CPU fan quickly goes to full speed for a few seconds, making it sound like a jet engine. After a few seconds, the fan goes back to normal speed and stays that way. This occurs each time after a cold boot. Is this some sort of setting that needs to be changed, or simply how the mobo operates? Looked through the manual and BIOS settings but haven't been able to see anything related.

The BIOS can adequately control the CPU fan if set correctly and you don't use a joke aftermarket HSF. A correctly set up Smart fan will run the CPU fan at full pelt for a few seconds at switch on before chopping it back as the BIOS boots and starts control.

P45 Platinum - Vista works just fine, but unable to get into BIOS

This is my first build, so I'm still learning a lot. Be kind!
I'm using the P45 Platinum with an Intel Core 2 Duo 3.0ghz Wolfdale cpu, 2 2gb sticks 1066mhz G-Skill ram, a Corsair 750w PSU, EVGA Nvidia 8800GTS video card, a 74gb WD Raptor HDD and a 250gb WD Caviar HDD (both SATA). I'm currently running 32bit Vista until 64bit has more support.
I have never been able to access the BIOS - before Vista was installed the splash screen was too fast so I kept missing my oppurtunity to enter BIOS, so I went ahead and put in the Vista install DVD. It installed just fine - it doesn't see my second HDD, but I expected that due to it being SATA.
I want to enter the BIOS to disable the audio so I can download the new Realtek audio drivers (I have no sound, even after installing the driver off the CD), but when I start up the computer and hit DEL (when prompted), it takes me to the Windows Boot Manager. Several times I have repeated the process and every time it takes me to the boot manager instead of the BIOS. The BIOS is obviously working, I just can't access it.
Any help is appreciated.

Simply keep hitting >DEL< as soon as the Splash screen appears. If that doesn't help, clear CMOS with main A/C power cable removed from PSU. Upon restart the system should hold with a CMOS Checksum error and give you the chance to hit F1 to enter BIOS Setup. Now you can load "Optimized Defaults" and disable the BOOT LOGO.

P45 Platinum - not booting

Hi guys,
I built my PC in 2009 and have had 2 years of trouble free running from it. This month it has started giving me grief!
Every time I turn it on it just repeatedly reboots after around 5 seconds. When I press the power button all the fans spin up as do the HDD's. There are no beeps from the motherboard and no BIOS info appears on my monitor. It just reboots, spins everything up then reboots again etc.
I have been able to start it each time by switching the PSU off, pressing the clear CMOS button then switching back on. I've been doing this every day for about 2 weeks now.
Today it got worse. I cleared the CMOS with the button on the back and tried to boot the system. This time everything spins up but it doesn't reboot now. It just runs the fans and HDD's indefinitely, until I switch the system off. No beeps from the motherboard, no BIOS info on the monitor. I tried clearing the CMOS again but it just does the same. This happened once last week but I left it disconnected from the power supply overnight and I was able to switch the system on again.
When the system does switch on it runs perfectly, no error message, no slowdown etc.
The motherboard has the latest BIOS version according the MSI website, v1.60.
I'm nor sure where to start looking for a fault. I think I'm just about ready to throw it out the nearest window

Just got my multimeter out and tested the 24 pin plug on the power supply.
Removed power supply from the case and used some cable to connect pins 15 and 16 to make the cooling fan spin.
