P4M900M2 (budget gaming computer)

Hello!
I'm trying to build myself a budget gaming computer, and ran into this core2duo board. How is this board for gaming? I need something that I can fairly overclock because I'm planning on getting a E4300. it will need some help to keep up I also can't decide if I should spend the little extra money and maybe settle for a 4400. (Thing is, that'll never stop, I can spend a little more after a 4400 and get a 6420)
My current specs are:
MSI RS480M2
2gb DDR ram which will be upgraded to DDR2 OCZ
AMD 64 3200+
Antec Basiq 500W
Thermaltake Watercooling which i'm not really impressed with
WD SATA HDD
Geforce 7600 GT 256mb PCI-E gfx
everything that I can move will move over to the 'new' computer.
edit: also what is the Virtualization Technology intel has? 4 series don't have it...

ok, well this is what I have setup right now
Some 15 dollar case that'll hold the computer in one piece
OCZ 2x1gb DDRII 6400 ram ---> http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16820227030
MSI P6N SLI-FI Mobo
Core 2 Duo E4300 (Allendale) **actually I just changed this to 4400 now, might as well spend 20 extra bux for 200 more mhz! when OCing***
Total came out to  346 w/shipping. 1 or 2 months, Hopefully i'll be spending just this much more to get a 8800 to upgrade my GPU.
Whatcya guys think Especially about 4300 to 4400 upgrade... worth the 20 bux?

Hello, I just want to ask what a good gaming computer(desktop) would be, right now i have this tower in mind http://www.bestbuy.com/site/cyberpowerpc-gamer-ultra-desktop-8gb-memory-2tb-hard-drive/6979369.p?id=... and this monitor in mind http://www.bestbuy.com/site/acer-20-34-led-hd-monitor/8816192.p?id=1218902549934&skuId=8816192
would that be a good setup? Any advice on this would be helpful. Thank you.

    Hi Nero,
Always good to meet a fellow gamer.
Other more experienced gamers will no doubt provide you with better insight than I can, but here’s what I’ve learned over the years about customizing rigs to be the ideal setup for my budget:
Build With A Particular Game In Mind. Many of the latest or upcoming games are taking advantage of the newest hardware and software technologies. It’s always a good idea to take a look at some of the games you are interested in buying and get a sense of what their hardware requirements are going to be. Building a rig for a game you bought last year and are still playing will mean you may need to upgrade sooner than you hoped.
Never Buy Integrated Graphics. If you want to see the amazing colors and details of the game you will be buying, make sure you buy a rig with a good to great video card. “Integrated” graphics are the poor man’s choice and while functional, lack the capacity to run games at their optimal settings (or even some games at all).
Dedicated Graphics Memory Is Essential. Most gaming rigs will have dedicated memory set aside just for your graphics card. This leads to faster frame rates when rendering images (among other things). The rig you are currently looking at is 1 GB of dedicated memory. The newer rigs have between 2 – 3 GB as minimums.
Processing Speed Is Important. A 1.2 GHz rig won’t do you many favors in the gaming world. Most serious rigs start at about 2.2 (for laptops) and go from there.
Get The Latest Processor. i3s might be cheap, but i7s are where it’s at.
Hard Drive Speed Matters. Never buy 5400 rpm drives – no matter the storage available to you (do you really need 1TB of storage on your rig? Me thinks not). You want 7200 rpm if you want good gaming performance.
8GB DDR3 SDRAM Is Fine. Unless you are planning on competing with a Grey supercomputer, you don’t need to worry about spending money on solid state drives or getting more than 8 gigs of ram.
Don’t Get Windows 7. I know, I know, Windows 8 is supposed to be the pits, but it’s what we have and Microsoft will eventually reduce support of Windows 7 in order to force consumers to switch. Most future games will be designing with Windows 8 or 8.1 in mind so don’t handcuff yourself by skimping on the operating system now.
Remember You Are Not Rich. Well you might be, but gaming is a hobby and you have a life outside the gaming world (well, I hope you do!). I’ve been tempted to spend $2k on rigs before – but let’s face it, by the time five years have passed, my rig will be outdated and considered a relic (I used to upgrade my tower every three years).
Read Reviews And Research, Research, Research. I can’t emphasize this enough. Some rigs look amazing, but it’s only after we start to encounter problems that we hit the net to find out what’s going on. Oooops. It turns out that the rig I just bought was using some cheap 7200 hard drives from a fly by night company operating out of China. Had I researched in advance, I would have known this. Now I have to return to the manufacturer and wait 6 weeks while they replace my drive. Oh no - 8 weeks have now gone by and computer is still not back – I’d like to call the help desk for an update, but the staff in India keep telling me they are unable to reach the company in the U.S. to get an update. Sadly for me I did not buy from Best Buy and am now having issues with the company that were selling the same rig online for $300 cheaper. OK – so you get my point – look at the components in your rig and do a  little research on the brand – a little time now could save you a major headache later on. And sometimes buying from a big box retailer is more in your favor than buying from an online cheapo store that may not be there tomorrow. If they go out of business – good luck getting your money back.
A few dollars in either direction might make all the difference. Check out the following items as some of them have i5 processors which might be better than the AMD series you are looking at (not saying it is, just giving you alternatives to consider when doing your research).
    I hope this helps!

  • Gaming Computer - Tower

Getting ready to buy a gaming computer for my son.  He wants to play the StarWars Games, Starcraft, etc.  Wondering what operating system is the best for gaming...Windows 7 or Windows 8.  Also, wondering if Ibuypower and cyberpower are good computers or should I go with Dell?  Not wanting to go over $1000.00.  Bestbuy.com has some interesting units from $749. - $999.  Wondering if we need 1TB or if 500Gig is enough.  Also, Intel verse AMD?  So many choices....and just when I think I settle into a unit, it goes into the Sold Out status.  But, have notice that they come pack into stock....if you wait.
    Help,
    Thanks,
    Barb

When it comes to gaming and multimedia I ALWAYS recommend Intel based processors. AMD are very good but they build their processors for a different market. With Intel processors you have 2 ways your can go. The Intel I7 which is the top tier series and then the Intel I5. The Intel I7 does offer some beneficial abilties but many will not play that big of a roll in gaming. I would save the money and get an I5 and spend a little more money to get a good graphics card. There is a Dell XPS desktop on bby.com (SKU:6877726) that has an Intel I5 processor, 8GB ram (upgradable) and a 1TB hard drive. The hard drive wont make much of a difference in terms of speed, but it will in how many games can be installed and what can be saved. Think movies, music and pictures. You would be hard pressed to find a performance desktop with much less then 1TB of space because the cost of hard drives has come down so much since the past years. Since this desktop computer already has a dedicated graphics card (ATI HD 7570) it should have a good power supply to support a better graphics card but you may need to upgrade the power supply. I cannot see what the wattage of the power supply it comes with. With that said, you can get by with that graphics card that it comes with but like I said before, Save the money with the step down in the processor and get a better graphics card. It will pay off big time in performance. For the graphics card I recomment the Nvidia 660 (sku:7001204) or Nvidia 660TI (sku:6208848). Both are great, the TI version offers some added benefits over none TI card that make a world of difference in the games performance. Plus I have the 660TI and I LOVE it. With what I recommended with the desktop computer and the graphics card you will be able to stay within your budget and get a gaming computer that will play any game out right now with outstanding performance and last for a few years at the least. If you have any more questions feel free to ask.

  • Gaming computer help

I'm looking into getting a new computer to play newer games. Mine is just so old and out of date, I need to upgrade the entire thing to get a new video card.
Just need one that can run games well and not have to be upgraded for a while.
Seems like every game that comes out needs a better and better card. -.-
Not sure which processor and video card combination would be best.

This is the kind I had in mind, but I can't seem to find which ports the computer has. I know it had them before, but I can't seem to find them now.
I need a headset and microphone port.
Kind of a lot of money, so I wanted some opinions before I made a purchase!
Thanks to everyone who decided to read this far. (:

No! That computer will not run most games.
That computer has a NVIDIA GeForce GT620 graphics! The GT620 is not a gaming card.
The only good thing about that computer is the processor.
Gaming performance on a scale 1 - 10, that PC would get about a 2.5.
Just becuase it looks like it can be a gaming computer and is advertise as one, does not make it one...

  • My daughter is asking for a gaming computer. What is this?

My daughter is asking for a gaming computer. What is this?

Not a MacBook Pro, that's for certain. The best gaming machines are PCs - desktop or some laptops - that are specifically built for gaming. They usually have, at least, dual graphics processor and are usually "Built to Order" so that you get exactly what you want.
I have a Sager "gaming" laptop - not because I'm a gamer but because it has terrific specifications for graphics work. I don't know much about gaming desktops, but you certainly don't want an off-the-shelf Dell, etc. I would just go Googling if I were you - and hope that some more people will see your message and offer suggestions.
    Best of luck,

  • Modifying MacBook 2003 into gaming computer?

I have a MacBook 2003 model and I was wondering if I could modify it to make it more of a gaming computer?

Yes. Sell it. Use the proceeds to buy a very powerful desktop computer.

  • Purchasing a New Gaming Computer

I am trying to buy a computer. The basis of this computer is to game, but I still want it to be able to perform normal tasks. I would like it to be able to run games of the level of Skyrim. My price range is up to $700 not including the screen. Any help would be awesome.

If you have any computer knowledge at all I would say build it.
If you can read up and understand how to build it. Also if you can read/understand troubleshooting documents then it's a no-brainier to build it.
You do take a small risk on messing up the computer parts, but as long as you are careful and ground yourself before working on it you should be fine.
The worst part is DLing/installing drivers and making sure everything is working properly (which windows 7 has made a lot easier then previous iterations).
Computers I build for gaming cost $800-$1000 and would cost $1,500-$2,000 retail. But that is also waiting on good sales.
You can get a good gaming computer for $600 if you watch sales and give it a month or so.

  • My future gaming computer!

    Hi Dragoon Army!
I'm wondering if the customized computer I'm planning on buying in Autumn for my birthday is good enough to
be used for gaming-, school- and multimedia purposes not just for now, but also
for the next 3 years coming. Then I'll probably be upgrading the computer myself.
    Specs hardware:
Case: Cooler Master Storm Scout II Gaming Ghost White
Power supply: XFX ProSeries Core Edition 650W
    Processor: Intel

    Hi,
The specs you mentioned have no problem with gaming and it worth the price.
When it comes to gaming, VGA cards are the most important. And of course with MSI GeForce GTX 770 Gaming, you can play games smoothly.
Please refer to the gaming benchmark on Guru3D to have a gaming performance overview with MSI GTX 770 Gaming.
    http://www.guru3d.com/articles_pages/msi_geforce_gtx_770_gaming_review,1.html
As for the cooling device, the stock CPU cooler is OK for not-heavy-loading usage.
But when you plan to overclock the CPU or the system is usually under heavy-loading usage, such as gaming, a more powerful CPU cooler is suggested.
A more powerful CPU cooler helps to lower the CPU temperature and make the system more stable and durable.
Wish this information will be helpful for you.

  • New gaming computer

So I'm Looking into getting a Brand new computer.
Now I strictly only do 2 things with this computer which will be Music and World of warcraft. I got my most recent computer 2 years ago and it don't allow me to play  World of warcraft on full graphic settings and it makes me very sad. Sadly it broke down From I have no idea. So what I'm asking more or less is What would be a good computer with a decent graphics card that will allow me to play World of warcraft and wont cost me and arm and a leg

Well, "Gaming", "Laptop" and "Cheap" don't mix, so you're going to have to settle for a desktop.  (You didn't specify laptop so I assume this isn't an issue.)
I would recommend a desktop with discrete NVidia graphics, a GT440 or above should do the trick.  (I use a GTX460 and it's great despite not being too high-end.)

  • Budget gaming.... kinda

I'm looking for a computer that will be good for gaming... mainly WoW. i dont wanna pay too much so most legit gaming computers are pretty much out of the question. i just want something that will provide good performance and decent upgradable capabilities (graphic cards, RAM,... etc). just looking for opinions and pricing if you know it. please and thank you

If you're talking desktop, and already have a monitor, then $500 will get you a decent WoW machine.

  • In need of gaming computer

I have a laptop but it doesn't have a minimum required video processor. And from what I understand, videogames make laptops slower. So I've decided to save up to buy a gaming desktop. I don't have a lot of money, but the only thing this desktop needs is space for games and basic internet for Steam verification. I'm specifically looking to play TESV: Skyrim. What are good and reliable gaming computers that can run skyrim, while still being not to expensive? Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Hello!
I would personally recommend you making your own rig! For under 600 you can make a very high quality IF you know where to look. My best buy store has very few desktops and those even the specs are not that great. So either go into the store to see a great selection including open box items or make your own!

  • Macbook Pro 15" i7 not a good gaming computer?

I was told that the MBP 15" i7 wasn't good for gaming..Is this true? I thought that it was pretty good for gaming. I'm not talking about intense gaming. Just maybe some NFS or like a couple of MMORPG's. Any input on this?
