P4MAM-V and Celeron 320D

Just thought somebody should know that if you install a Celeron 320D into a P4MAM-V logic board and go into the BIOS, make a change and try to save the change, the board will lock up.
I've tried this with different processors (all 320D) and different boards (all P4MAM-V).
The power supply makes no difference.  The RAM makes no difference.  If I install a P4 Prescott, the board works correctly or an older Celeron works correctly to.  I've upgraded to the latest BIOS on all these boards and that doesn't help either.
If I never need to make a change in the BIOS, then the board works fine.  No problems in Windows, all the pieces work in the logic board (LAN, Audio, Video, etc.) with no errors or lock ups.  This will only become an issue when I want to make BIOS changes  - I can never save these changes!

can you tell what BIOs changes you're trying to make?

  • CoreCenter and Celeron D question

    Hi!
I have MSI 915G Combo motherboard and CeleronD 330J
When I look in the Corecenter the default value for FSB is normal 133 x 20, but when I try to increase the FSB for example 134 I get 67 x 20 in the corecenter window and the same values are shown in CPUZ
    Practically this is underclocking
What is wrong?? it is something in the BIOS?
I mention that I am using the integrated VGA and one 512Mb PC3200 memory
    Thank you

  • 865G-Neo2-LS and celeron 2.4

I recently purchased an 865G Neo2- LS  in combination with a celeron 2.4 GHz Processor.
In installing the pair, the D- Bracket stated that no CPU was installed/ damaged processor (all four LED's Orange). ;(
In looking at the BIOS files I see that version 1.3 was released recently which supports the 24 multiplier needed by the celeron 2.4.  Is the d bracket stopping at all four LED's lit  the behavior to be expected of BIOS release 1.2 with a Celeron 2.4?
Before I go chasing down the wrong path I wanted to understand how the mobo would react if it has Bios Rev 1.2-
( would the rev initially installed be stamped on the chip? )
Thanx for any info you might have-

The CPU controls the multiplier so I would be very surprised if it wouldn't run, but you can try a slower CPU just to be sure.

  • Is a 512MB, Celeron PC good enough to run Oracle Forms

    Hi:
I was curious and would like to know if anybody knows if a 512 MB RAM, Intel Celeron DELL PC is sufficient to run 3 Oracle Forms sessions for a Call Center application.
Does anybody out there have a similar app out there and would be willing to share their PC configurations?
    Thanks,
    Thomas

    Hi Steve:
Yes, we learned early on (about 16 months ago) that launching a second session off the same browser is an issue. I believe its has to do with the JVM only getting so much memory allocated and thus when you have more that one session, you reach a limit faster and furthermore, one sessions drags the other one (or something like that). I do not know if you noticed (from some of my other posts) or remember me from last year but our app has been unstable ever since its introduction into production. If this memory limit theory of mine is true, it is conceptually possible that our app becomes unstable when a limit is reached. I am trying to find if there is a way to overcome this limit.
From last years observations, I noticed that a user with a current PC (at least 1GB RAM and at Pentium 4) experienced issues once every couple of weeks which is far better than a typical CSR (which uses 512MB RAM and Celeron processor)which experiences issues at least twice a day. I am trying to find, if it exists, documentation or solid proof that for usage described the better PC is needed, to at least justify a controlled test.
Our CSRs like to have at least three sessions open because that way they can switch and perform different lookups.
In order to avoid users opening from the same browser, we set them up with a launching executable that makes sure a new browser is open and just in case, they attempt to go around that, we installed (I believe Javascript) logic that check for the browser already running an instance of the app.

  • Oracle 9i Lite and CPU problems

Are there any known problems with 9i Lite clients on Celeron or other CPU models ?
I know there were JVM related problems with one of the Oracle Universal Installers (been there) but this problem occurs when running msql to access the polite db.
    eg.
    msql system/x@polite
    msql system/x@polite:polite
    msql system/x@jdbc:polite:polite
All return a [POL-3013] bad database or invalid password error. Suspect that MSync does not work for the same reason.

I also get the POL-3013 error message when trying to connect to the polite database as well as my own db. I can setup the user-dsn and run CREATEDB with no errors. I can even validate the db and no errors are reported. But I cannot use msql to connect to it. It used to work on my previous Win2k-machine with P4 cpu, but will not work with XP and Celeron.

  • Oracle 9i Lite and JavaServer Pages (JSP)

    Hello,
I was refered to this forum as I have a couple of questions:
    1. If I have an application built on JSPs and Servlets that runs against Oracle 9i and Oracle 9ias, Could I run the same application on Oracle Lite without making any changes to the application? if not, what are the changes I have to consider?
    2. I read that Oracle 8i is the database you use to make the tests, can I use Oracle 9i as well?
    3. I understood that J2EE is supported, do I need a special version/patch to be installed?
    Thanks.

  • Which pentium m or celeron m processors suit evo n1020v

which pentium m or celeron m processors suit evo n1020v? the desktop 2.4g cpu it shipped with really taxes the cooling system, and i hope i can buy a used pentium m to replace the 2.4g with for what would now be a reasonable price
I installed the latest bios so which pentium and celeron m processors can the n1020v now support?

You probably don't need that driver. You can edit the PKGBUILD to get rid of the part that is creating the error.

  • CPU upgrade on Satellite A60

Hello, i want to upgrade the cpu on my Satellite A60 celeron d345, what kind of processors are supported?
    Thanks

    Hi
I can not give you any informations about the CPU prices because it depends on the computer dealer.
Mostly the online dealers are much cheaper. So simply use a search-and-compare prices engine in the net.
Now something about the motherboard compatibility:
The Toshiba Satellite A60 is a full size notebook PC based on the Intel Portability P4 processor, providing high-speed processing capabilities and advanced features.
In my knowledge the motherboard should be ale to handle the Intel P4 (Northwood), P4 (Prescott) and Celeron (Northwood) CPUs.
    - P4 (Northwood) 2.66/2.8/3.06/3.2 GHz
    - P4 (Prescott) 518(2.8 GHz)/532(3.06 GHz)/538(3.2 GHz)/552(3.46 GHz)/558(3.60 GHz)
    - Celeron (Northwood) 2.5/2.6/2.7/2.8 GHz
    - Celeron (Prescott) 325(2.53 GHz) / 330 (2.66 GHz) / 335(2.8 GHz) 340 (2.93G) / 345 (3.066 GHz) / 350(3.2 GHz)
But note; everything what you do is at your own risk!!

  • Processor upgrade on Satellite L30

Can I replace my Intel celeron with a full Intel pentium for my laptop Satellite L30-105? As it's so slow I've only had it since Feb 2007, plus half my hard disk has vanished also?

You can use Pentium M CPU, because the difference between Celeron M and Pentium M is the cache size, and Celeron M doesn't uses SpeedStep technology, but the FSB and the Socket are the same.

  • Unboxing MSI Z97 Mpower Max AC Overclocking Motherboard

Intel Z97 chipset based motherboards is already out and I’m glad that Intel decided it to make the CPU socket the same LGA 1150 as before. Backward compatibility for the current CPUs and at the same time will have support for the upcoming Haswell Refresh and Broadwell (14nm) processors. More importantly, the chipset has three new features and these are:
•SATA Express – PCIe M.2 support. Can deliver data speeds up to 10Gb/s
•Boot Guard – serves as a shield against low-level malware attacks using Intel device protection system
•Upgraded Intel Smart Response and Raid start technologies. Now with Dynamic Cache Sharing
Few? yes, but don’t get disappointed about it yet, as I heard that the Z97 will be good at high memory frequencies and has better CPU overclocking.
That’s it for the review and thank you … just kidding hehehe. The main gist of this short review is on MSI’s Z97 MPower Max AC and it’s such a good looking motherboard. It has new features, heat sink design and OC essential tools which will be further discussed later on. Before that, let us take a look at the packaging first.
Black and Yellow ~~black and yellow…box is same as the Z87 Mpower Max before except for the OC Series logo design.

What you will notice right away is the new water cooling heat sink for the VRM area. Enthusiasts will like this very much as they don’t have to worry on buying water blocks for this section. But even on stock, the heat sink is efficient to cool down the VRM chips. It is composed of heat pipe and ceramic materials.
PCB is matte black and is using dark solid capacitors. Layout is clean and organized especially on the area of the multi graphics card slots. OC button tools are placed on the upper right area of the board for easy access. The 8pin and 4pin power connectors on the upper left area are used to supply power to the CPU and it also helps achieve higher overclock potential and stability to the processor.
MSI also included an integrated Clock Generator chip called OC Engine (located below the CPU socket). Having this will support more BCLK adjustments from 100 / 125 / 167 MHz straps. The more flexible the strap is, the more doors for maximum OC potential.
12Phase DigitAll power design. Powerful enough to break OC world records and dominate benchmarks.
You also have the Military Class 4 components SFC chokes and Hi-c caps surrounding the CPU socket.
On the area in between the two heat sinks connected by a heat pipe is an additional 6pin power. It provides more juice and stability in multi-graphics card configuration.
The first two buttons on the left are the Base Clock Control Buttons. These buttons are used to increase or decrease the base clock frequency in real-time. At the bottom, you have the Discharge button and it allows you to fully discharge the motherboard and even removes information from the Z97 PCH. Next you have the Reset and Power buttons and lastly the most valuable button of them all – OC Genie for auto overclock.
To the farthest right is a switch. This is the OC Genie Mode switch which provides two overclocking modes. First mode is the Gear 1, the default automatic overclocking setting while Gear 2 is a higher auto overclock tweak than Gear 1. This goes hand in hand with the OC Genie Button.
V-Check Points is now version 2 with 2 extra ground connectors, allowing overclockers to use 3 multi-meters at the same time. You can check the VCCIN, DDR, Core,IGP, Ring Bus and System Agent voltage on the fly.
Audio Boost is also been upgraded. It has Dual Amps now and is using better Nippon Chemi-con filtering capacitors.
Here comes one of the major features of having Z97 chipset based motherboard, SATA Express. M.2 slot transfers data through a PCI Express 2.0 x2 interface which can reach up to 10 Gb/s speed. That is 67% much faster than your regular SATA 3 solutions.
Two more switches are to be found at the bottom of the board. First one is the Multi-BIOS Switch. This model has two built-in BIOS ROMs labeled as A and B (Default is BIOS ROM A). If one crashed, you can shift to the other for booting or perhaps use the other one for test purpose of new BIOS available in the net.  You can also use this feature to fix corrupted BIOS. Next switch is the Slow Mode Booting and mostly used during LN2 or extreme overclocking situations.  What it does is it will temporary decrease the CPU Ratio to 8x and after successfully booting to Windows you can flick the switch back again to apply your high overclock frequency settings.
Done with the switches and now for the small black button called Go2BIOS. Pressing this button before turning on your computer or right after a system restart, will go straight to your board’s BIOS.
The ever reliable Debug Code LED indicator is available in this model. This can be used greatly for troubleshooting boot up and hardware problems. Check out the User Manual Guide for the corresponding POST Code errors.
SATA ports 8 and 7 on the left are controlled by ASMedia ASM1061 while the rest are from the Intel Z97 chipset.  There also 2x USB 3.0 internal headers available and also controlled by Intel Z97.
    •PS2 Combo Port
    •2x USB 2.0
    •Empty space for Intel’s WIFI/Bluetooth AC Module
    •6x USB 3.0 by ASMedia ASM1074
•1x Intel I218-V Gigabit LAN Controller
    •1x S/PDIF Audio Output by Realtek ALC1150
    •1x HDMI Port
    •1x DisplayPort
    •2x USB 3.0 by ASMedia ASM1042
•6x Analog Gold Plated Audio Ports by Realtek ALC1150
This is it for now and I don’t still have the right parts to run the motherboard to its max potential. I will update you guys as soon as I get my hands on the stuff I needed. Benchmarks and overclocking results will be made.
    Long live MSI OC Series!!!

It is interesting MSI chose not to incorporate dedicated SATA Express port(s). Some manufacturers even incorporated that on it's Z87's.

If Intel didn't increase the useable RAM bandwidth with Devil's Canyon, those higher RAM frequencies are going to do nothing! With a VRM still in the CPU, even with the improved TIM, it remains to be seen how much of a better OC'er Devil's Canyon will be on conventional cooling solutions. Anything above Z97 Gaming 7 or 9 is kind of overkill for an average non exotic cooling pc user. If anything like the Z87 Power Max I got to work with, most of those OC settings on these class boards was a total waste. Z97 better OC'er for normal users? Time will tell.

  • Mega 865PRO - Things to know before building...

MSI Mega 865PRO Barebones SFF PC
    Hello there!
Following on from the success of the previous stickies on the Mega 180, 651 and 865, we present to you a new sticky on the most recent addition to the MSI Mega PC range: the 865PRO.
Unfortunately, I have no first-hand experience of using one of these, and as no-one else has bravely stepped forward to do the honours, I think we have enough already for me to start a sticky FAQ anyway.
If you have any valuable info that needs to be shared with other Mega 865PRO users, then please feel free to post in this thread, and at some point, I will integrate it into the main FAQ post.
If you want to ask a question, or need help, then start a new topic, please don't clutter this thread with useless or irrelevant posts. You will always get much better help by starting your own topic, and it keeps this thread useful.
    InstantOn
Intervideo's InstantOn is a small Linux-based OS that allows fast booting to an environment where you can listen to music, radio, watch TV and DVDs, without booting up into Windows.
You must install InstantOn to a clean, unpartitioned drive. In other words, if you built your 865PRO with a brand new hard drive, you must install it before you install Windows.
We still don't have a definitive answer on what card the Mega 865PRO TV Tuner card is, but a look on Intervideo's website, tells us that the program supports TV cards based on the following chipsets:
    Conexant 2388x
    Bt878
    Philips SA713x
which to me appear to be most software-based analogue TV tuners out there. InstantOn does not support DVB-T cards, only analogue.
InstantOn will also only work with the onboard Intel 865G chipset, so you won't be able to use it with an nVidia or ATi add-in AGP card. (It does work with other graphics chips but they are only solutions you will find in other integrated chipsets, such as SiS 650 and Via CLE266.)
InstantOn will also only work with the integrated audio, however you could use an addin soundcard, provided it was one of the following:
    Advance Logic
    Aureal Vortex
    C-Media
    Creative Sound Blaster Live
    ForteMedia
    ESS
    Yamaha
    Crystal
which does narrow your options somewhat....
    CPU Support
Mega 865PRO is designed to support most Socket775 Intel Pentium 4 and Celeron CPUs. You can find the latest CPU support list here:
    http://www.msi.com.tw/program/products/slim_pc/slm/pro_slm_cpu_support_detail.php?UID=602&kind=4
Please note that if you intend to use a Pentium 4 6xx CPU which includes EMT64 64bit instruction set, then you will need to upgrade your BIOS to remedy a random crashing issue, addressed in BIOS version 1.1 (110). If your system already has this BIOS version, then you do not need to update.
    Installing Windows to C: partition
Same as with the other Mega PCs, if you go to install Windows, the text setup program automatically allocates C: and D: to the card reader devices, and E: to the optical (CD/DVD) drive. Which leaves Windows to install on the F: partition which you will create on your hard drive. Not normally much of a problem, as Windows will work wherever you install it, but some programs are not happy if they can't find your Windows directory on the C:, most notably Intervideo software
So how to get round this? If you aren't using a USB keyboard, then you can just disable the USB controller in the BIOS setup, then you can re-enable it at any point following the first restart after Windows has created and formatted the partition and copied the installation files.
However if you need to use a USB keyboard during the text-based setup stage, then you will have to open your case and locate and disconnect the card reader connector from the motherboard. Do this with the power off, and reconnect when powered off also. You can do this at any point, when you start your PC, Windows will find the new hardware and automatically install the drivers for it.
    The LED Display
The LED panel on the 865PRO is very different to the earlier Megas. It doesn't use the same Bluebird module, and doesn't have a 'Hi-Fi' mode. Therefore it is impossible to use Nathan's Girder plugin, to program the remote to work with programs other than Intervideo/MSI Media Centre II
However Digest and Kane81 have both been investigating methods of getting alternative information onto the LED display.
According to Kane81 in this thread, the LED display already displays some information, when running Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 (MCE2005): Mega865 LED display support in MCE
And Digest is working on his own utility to be able to display other information on the display, you can follow progress by reading this thread: 865PRO LED (VFD) panel, again
And this thread gives more info about configuring the System Control Manager utility: https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=92403.0

I have BIOS 1.0 installed in my 865 PRO, and i also have the known problem. BUT, when i try to do an automated download of the new BIOS, 1.1 hopefully (I´ve seen 1.3) the software do not find any new BIOS for me. Tried to use the console, but that was to complex. I have the lastest version of the software. Help please!

  • Memory upgrade | PC won't boot

Hi everyone. I've just upgraded my memory from 256MB to 1GB, I took out the 256 one and only inserted 1GB one so that they don't clash as they are of different makes. Now when I start up my PC, my monitor says 'Monitor is working, check you PC or cable' and nothing boots up, not even that screen where I can get into system setup/bios etc. So from there I have to turn it off by pressing the start CPU button for 5 or so seconds.
I can run memtest only after booting up when it goes to that stage where floppy or cd drive is checked, but it doesn't. CPU does start but nothing comes on the screen, instead the monitor says 'Monitor is working, check your pc or cable'. when I put my old ram in, it runs the memtest, no problems.
Help would be loved here, my £40 are at stake, please. :(
    My motherboard: http://www.msi.com.tw/program/products/mainboard/mbd/pro_mbd_detail.php?UID=37
    My new RAM: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=6800317366&ssPageName=MERC_VI_ReBay_Pr4_PcY_BIN_Stores
    My system:
    Windows XP
    MSI MS-6507
    Intel P4 2.0 GHz
    256MB Ram (old)
    GeForce 4 MX 420
    Seagate (40 GB 5400 RPM Ultra ATA/100)
    Maxtor (40 GB 7200 RPM Ultra ATA/133)

    Hi,
Most DDR400 works at 2.7V some can even go higher. So adjusting the voltage to 2.6 and then 2.7.
Yes, DDR400 will work with P4 and Celeron 400FSB.  Have a 2.6 Celeron 400FSB  in 848P Neo S mainboard and is running fine. (Also tested in 865 Platinum mainboard (dual channe)l and 845GE max mainboard.)
The only other suggestion is you ask a friend to MEMTEST for you.
Where did you download bios from? As the MSI bios download for "link"mainboard is only 2.1........

Want to connect to site in internet like http://www.google.com. In Eclipse and as .jar.File on my Windows 7 everything runs fine. On Windows 2003 or Vista I cut LAN, so no network and the application response 'ok' and do not throw an Exception, what my Windows 7 and another Windows XP do immediately. New start of application has the same effect. After a time of circa 20 seconds application throws an Exception. Bad surprise. All Windows use java version 1.6.0_21.

    2. Different hardwareI didn't say anything about hardware either.
So you haven't 'disproved' anything yet.
Win XP Pro SP3 on Pentium M and Celeron laptops get information from its hardware.Obviously, and from their TCP/IP stacks.
    JVM get information from OSObviously.
and put it to cache every definied time as reply a cycle.I can't make much sense of that, but the JVM certainly doesn't maintain TCP reply timers. It relies entirely on the TCP/IP stack for that.
This unit of time should be set shorter. I think, I have to parameterization JVM to put the information for TCP/IP in shorter time to cache. I would know gladly where this has to define. As this imaginary timer doesn't exist, there is nothing to define. As I already told you, 'there is nothing you can do about it within Java'.
If the hardware delivers an interrupt to the operating system and the operating system delivers that in some form to the TCP/IP stack and the TCP/IP stack construes it as a cable loss and turns that into a ' connection reset', that's what you will get in your Java code. If all that doesn't happen, you won't.

  • OC Genie II - Z77A-G43 (MS-7758) Board

    Hi all,
I've just bought a new PC and this board, I tried to use the OC genie but it doesn't seem to be doing much.
I enabled it with Control center and enabled it in BIOS, I get the flash screen at bootup telling me its on, but the clock speed doesn't seem to move from 3.3Ghz.
    Here's some screenies:
    Thank you,

However, it stays at 4.2 all the time, I assume this will decrease the life of my CPU and increase the power usage?
I'm an AMD fanboy so I can't really help you here. But I can say that if the temperatures and voltages of your OC is within the threshold of your CPU you have no need to worry about the life of the CPU. They'd probably last way after you have upgraded to the latest and greatest tech in a few years' time, even if your computer is on 24/7 with the OC in place. What is the warranty period for an Intel CPU? 3 years or 5 years?
On the other hand, if you are concerned about power usage I'm sure there is a setting in your mobo similar to AMD's Cool N Quiet. What Cool N Quiet does is throttle down the CPU when workload is light. And then, there are a bunch of power saving modes in Windows itself and also in the BIOS of your mobo. I've never used an Intel system (not counting the Pentium and Celeron) so I'll let the more learned bros here chime in.
