  • [nVidia Series] P4N Diamond and freeze

    Hi,
Just installed my brand new P4N Diamond with a Pentium D 830. After uprading the BIOS it works with the processor.
But now suddenly the machine totally freeze. It can be on for a long time, but when using it (starting programs etc) it suddenly totally freeze and only way out is to power off.
Using Windows XP with all the latest packs, and the most recent BIOS and drivers for the mobo.
    Anyone ?

ddebono, can't you borrow it from your friend, relative, or local store first instead of buy it?
Modern CPU run on 12v not 3.3 anymore (maybe started from P-IV and equivalent AMD, not sure).
And CPU draws more power than HDD/CD-ROM.
Of course CPU won't eat all of 20A at a time. But bigger room is better. And not all PSU rated correctly. (read about PSU sticky).
And when PSU are blown/dead, usually they brought friends (another component) -in my P3 system, it's my HDD!-
So considering your mobo & CPU is a premium, why don't you make it save and optimal with better PSU? Even if it's not the problem.

  • P7N2 Diamond Keeps Freezing

I have a P7N2 Diamond that keeps locking up on me. Its getting quite annoying as theirs no error or BSOD just bam freeze. Because of which its very difficult to diagnose.
When you reboot the system (power off then power back on again) the machine wont post. It almost sounds like its stuck in a reboot loop CD drive wirrs and you can hear the case fans spinning up and then down again. It will carry on doing this until you rip the power cable out of the back of the PSU then it will post up normally.
    System Specs as follows
    MSI P7N2 Diamond
    Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550
    OCZ3G13334GK 10666 Ram ( 1 stick 2GB )
    Western Digital Cavier Black 500GB
    Windows Vista 64bit Business
2 x Asus Radeon HD 4850 (Not in Crossfire Mode)

after monitoring while encoding video it would seem that by cpu temps are getting up to > 90c under load something which im sure I ruled out before.
Make sure that you checked the Core Temperatures, not the "general CPU Temperature".  Use tools like Core Temp, Real Temp and/or HWMonitor to check your CPU's Core Temperatures.  The best thing is to run Prime95 to get all Cores busy and watch the CPU Ratio with CPU-Z when the system is under full load.
Basically, the CPU decided when it will shut down (based on the Core Temperatures), not the board or BIOS (the Feature is called Thermal Monitor II).  The shutdown point (TJunction/Tj.Max) should be around 100°C Core Temperatures for your processor (see what estimative value Core Temp shows for TJMax.).  When the core temperatures of the processor approach the critical shut-down point, the CPU will automatically throttle the processor (it will reduce the Core Voltage and throttle the frequency (the multiplier will drop to x6 even if the system under full load (that is why it is a good idea to have CPU-Z running when you use Prime95).
If the Core Temperatures really rise above 90°C, you should really start to worry about the cooling solution.  In that case, please take off the heatsink, clean the contact surfaces, re-apply a proper amount of thermal paste and reseat the heatsink properly.

  • [nVidia Series] P4N Diamond System Randomly Freezes

Please help if you can. I've tried everything.
    System Specs.
    Pentium D 840

    Thermaltake 560W PurePower PSU
    Thermaltake Big Typhoon CPU Cooler
    Windows XP Pro OEM
System freezes randomly. Tends to happen quicker if I reset the system after the initial freeze. Stress testing makes the system freeze quicker. Has frozen while installing XP five or six times. Sometimes freezes while loading (on the welcome screen). Always the same hard lock, everything stops (including audio etc).
I've got the latest bios and latest drivers (from nvidia).
I have tried almost every possible permutation of Bios Settings.
    I have swapped the motherboard.
Tried just a single stick of ram, tried a single stick of another brand and also tried DDR-II 533.
I've tried using both SATA controllers, just a single Raptor (with both drives) and also a single WD1200JB Hard drive.
Tried 3 different 500+ watt PSUs
Tried using a single video card (with both cards)
Tried a P4 650 CPU (just in case the CPU was faulty, I MUST get dual core working though)
I have re-installed XP fresh for every change in hardware configuration.
What else can I do? Has anyone got a setup similar to this working?
Advice would be greatly appreciated. I've spent three days solid on this.

Still going on this one. Tried another PSU.

  • [nVidia Series] P4N Diamond freeze

    Hi,
When using a Pentium D 830 in my P4N Diamond it suddenly freeze. It can take 5 minutes or 5 hours.
My PSU is a 560W with 35A on 12V in combined mode or 20A on 12V1 and 12V2.
The temp is around 60C on CPU and 50C on system with heavy load.
    Have the V1.2 BIOS.
    Any ideas ?

The latest is V1.2 that I can find.
Sorry, I'm speaking bullshit:) Yes...1.2 is the latest. Maybe RAM or vga issue (VGA overheat?!).

  • New Bios Update for MSI P4N Diamond to support 9XX D series

Hi, i recently bought a P4N Diamond with a 830D cpu. I want to upgrade to a 940D but unfortunately   the MOBO does not support it as yet ( i had a look in your mobo support status) so was just wondering when and if an update will come out to support it.
    Thanks

Hmm so that means Possible Yes or definite no that it wont be supported.
Another problem im having with my setup is this it keeps shutting down randomly on its own.
with overclocking and without overclocking. i have gone up to 3.1 ghz 3.2 ghz 3.3 ghz and it shuts down on its own or sometimes it justs freezes

  • P4N Diamond (blackscreen boot bios?)

I just put together a brand new comp.  All parts are new.
    -P4N Diamond MB
    -650W powersupplu
    -1gb Corsair XMS2 6400 (800mhz)
    -WD Raptor 74gig SATA 10000rpm
    -EVGA 7800 GTX
    -Pentium D 830
Me and my friend put it all together and then connected everything and turned this puppy on.  Thing is all the fans turned on(even the cpu heatsink fan that is powered from the MB) and the light on all the drives turned on.( the graphics card fan was on too)...  But the monitor screen remained black as if it where in standby mode and none of the lights on my keyboard turned on...... Its as if the MB is not recognizing any of the external stuff.
I've been reading the MB manual and i would put in the D-Bracket piece that has the 4 leds but i cant find the JDB1 bracket on the MB.....This is my first comp and i dont really know much about BIOS settings and the such.  I read think i read something about a CMOS button and battery and something about jumping something else...but i really dont know exactly where the part is to be jumpered.
Any in-detail help would be much appreciated.....P.S.  All i wanted to do was play some BF2 on my new blazing comp...but now i can't ... =(

Aaarrrrggggg!!  Well when i called the Tech guy for my new chip on Wed the 14 of Sept and he said it would be send out the next day.  Well i called them on friday the 16th to make sure they had sent it and the guy i talked to gave me a fedex shipping number so i could track it and he said it may take a day for the shippment to get into the system.  So i checked on Sat, and Sunday, and Monday.  Then i was like ....hmmmmm i called today Tuesday the 20th and he said that my part had never been shipped. (Good thing i was in a good mood otherwise i would have..........blown my top)  So he was like, i'll send you a bios chip with version 1.0 on it and....i was like hold the phone... i need bios version 1.3 to get my Pentium D to work.(its like they dont keep a record of the problem..so i had to explain to him the reason why i just didn't want a new bios chip, but one with version 1.3 on it)
Anyways he gave me an order number and I guess i'm going to have to call back everyday to make sure that they ship it.
I guess for anyone getting this board they should order the updated bios chip when they order the motherboard too.  I think i am going to post this on newegg and some other websites under the products reviews.....not to badmouth MSI but to make sure people know what to do when they get this problem.   <-----Is that a bad idea? or a good one?

Hey, when will the windows xp professional 64 bit drivers come out for the P4N Diamond? I'm stuck with no sound at the moment, and no other drivers so I do not have any of the specials that come with the motherboard, and some of the usb sockets keep not working for no apparent reason, its blasted annoying!

The item is not defective. The problem is with SLI technology in general. As it turns out, an SLI computer is strictly a gaming machine and will NOT run normal application software reliably.
Here are a few examples of application software that will not run:
    Example 1:
I purchased the MSI ATI Theater 550 Pro TV Tuner. I tested the tuner in a non-SLI computer and it performed at a level of quality well above anything I have ever seen before. I highly recommend this tuner. When I installed the tuner in the SLI system, the Windows Messenger failed to run and produced some really strange error messages (Active Movie errors). An attempt to run CyberLink PowerCinema 3 (the application software bundled with the tuner) will totally freeze Windows XP requiring a re-start.
    Example 2:
You can forget trying to install CyberLink Power DVD 6. The installation setup will crash producing a “Catastrophic Error” message during the installation.
    Example 3:
Nero Burning ROM 6 will install and you can burn CDs and DVDs but forget the CD Labeling software. An attempt to perform the following action will crash the application:
Nero Burning ROM -> File -> Print Disk Cover
    Example 4:
LiteOn SmartBurn v3.1.10 is a utility that enables a user to identify the manufacturer, maximum recording speed and other parameters of a blank CD or DVD simply by inserting the blank disk in the drive and running the application. This application will produce a, “Memory Access Violation”.
.... also i can't pull out the memory because 1 have 2X1GB modules.  All of the othe RAM i have is DDR not DDR 2

  • Heatsink/fan recommendation for P4N Diamond?

I bought a P4N Diamond and a P4 630 CPU, but looking for a recommendation for a heatsink and fan.
I bought a Thermaltake CL-P0092 (http://www.thermaltakeusa.com/coolers/cl-p0092silent775/cl-p0092silent775.htm#logoInfo)  and it does not fit. The copper base plate is so wide that it rests on top of the capaciors and does not make contact with the CPU. The heat pipes also protrude too far and depending which way I face it they either prevent the base plate from making good contact with the CPU, or leans against the chipset's heat sink.
Any suggesstions? Stock cooling is not terrible, but I am looking for something a bit better that will actually fit well on this motherboard
    --Jon

yup, that's a pretty bad cut or a pretty badly designed heatsink (in terms of not following specs).
OK, back to your question. I've heard of users here using ThermalRight XP-90 with a 120mm fan.
Personally I'd like to have an orb or sunflower shape fan. The reason is you still need to blow air on those CPU VREG (voltage regulator) area. Those MOSFETs are running pretty hot especially you place in a dual core CPU, and they are exposed without heatsinks. If you used a horizontal fin like this thermaltake, that means only the side MOSFETs will have airflow, those in between I/O Plate and CPU socket (I call it North phase) will not have good airflow. This is not good at all!
Keep this in mind while you're hunting for a new fan. (I am too! )

  • MSI P4N Diamond + 2xMSI 7800 GXT + Pentium 4 Extreme 3.73 CPU OK?

    1. Is this a good working combination?
    2. Will I have issues when trying to SLI the 2 x MSI 7800's?
    3. Does the P4N Diamond support the intel pentium 4 extreme 3.73 cpu properly (I notice a lot of reviews of the P4N Diamond on the 'Net used the intel pentium 4 extreme 3.73 in their tests, but MSI's CPU Support page for the P4N Diamond motherboard shows that it is not yet tested)?

I noticed yesterday that if I install the supplied v77.xx D.O.T. enabled Nvidia / MSI driver, I get 56xx marks in 3D Mark 05 for a single card (approx 500 marks) much higher than the standard WHQL drivers from Nvidia).
This is because of DOT (Dynamic Overclocking Technology). Basically it overclocks your card when the extra performance is needed. As long as you keep an eye on your temps you can do even more overclocking with the standard drivers from NVidia. I believe the program most people use is Coolbits2 (someone correct me if I am wrong). You can use speedfan to monitor the temps and it will most likely be listed as remote 1.
    Good Luck

  • Posible p4n diamond heat problem and other beep question

Hi   was using my p4n diamond for about 2h 30min and it all of a sudden just cuts out with no warning.
im unsure if its heat related thought the constant 55C is not as good temp as i should probably have but it stays stable there.
Also when i recently installed msi core it said i was very close to the voltages it had in the display just to hope to rule out power problems.
i have the cases 120mm exaust fan in the back an 80mm input fan in thefront and then the cpu fan that came with my pentium d 830 .
if its heat related should i get another 80mm fan as an exaust or an 80 mm input fan. i have one more spot on the door of the case.
    ----other beep question--
I was also wondering about the beeps on my computer. when i first was working with this pcc i had no beeps but then when working i had one beep  before os   then two after os and usb case plugs and floppy , 3 when i put on a printer and then back to one and then no  beeps.
are these my beeps going down related to my heat or is this mother board short lived . one beeps soposed to mean that its loading properly
    thanks

regarding your question about target temperature. my board isn't exactly the same as yours, but it's close.
you are right that you can lower the target temp and it will tend to cool the cpu because the fan runs faster at a lower temperature. the way i set up mine was to DISABLE the target temp and that gives the fan full voltage at all temps. that way, the fan rpm will bottom out at 2250rpm (instead of 1100rpm up to the target temp) or so even at lower temps.
also keep in mind that your cpu temp in the bios disply should be a few degrees HIGHER than the temp in "idle windows".
the intel data sheet for the pentium D 8xx series says that the max temp is 69C. so your cpu shouldnt have a problem at 55C.
i ran a prime95 primality test for about 17 hours at 60C to test stability (while using the computer for my normal foreground tasks) and didn't have a problem. i'm NOT recommending this. but i wanted you to know that this cpu doesn't have a problem with temps in the 60C range. and that msi motherboard will stand up to rough treatment.
also, in my humble opinion, i would NEVER run those msi windows utilities. they may be causing you a problem with stability. i use speedfan from almico to monitor temps and i have it set up to generate sound and visual warnings at certain temps. the F1 docs are good. if it were my system, i would go so far as to reinstall windows and format the C: to get rid of core center. i wouldn't even trust the uninstall unless you're good enough to surgically remove it manually.
also make sure you turn off EIST in the bios. it wont impact your temps significantly. that nvidia nforce sli intel edition has a problem with 14x multiplier and pentiumD. and EIST bumps you down to 14x occaisionally.

  • [nVidia Series] P4N Diamond Motherboard

I have bought P4N Diamond motherboard previously I have 925XE Platinum motherboard. I had faced problems wih Core Cell & Digi Cell ; the problem was when I installed software for both Core Cell & Digicell my computer freezes & restarts. so I solved that problem by not using both Core Cell & Digicel. Now I am again buying MSI motherboard and want to know that do Core Cell & digicell work this time or I will face the same problem. I had installed Windows XP (Professional) operating system & will install same operating system. Also do SI provides speacial support who buyes Diamond series motherboard?l

Today, i just build a new computer based on P4N Diamond, and i have tried to install MSI CoreCenter & Digicell software with WinXP SP1 & SP2, it seems nothing happen, it should be ok.
As to MSI 925XE board, I heard there was the issue that would show "No hardware moniter.." when installing the CoreCenter, but now, the issue has been solved, you can try to directly download the software from their website: http://www.msi.com.tw/program/support/software/swr/spt_swr_list.php?kind=1
You can try it . Good Luck!

  • My time machine keeps freezing when I am backing up

I have recently purchased a seagate 1.5TB external hard drive and am trying to back up my computer using time machine.
    My compute is 56GB large.
I have tried 3 times and have been forced to stop it everytime because it keeps freezing.
    What should I do?
It says it is compaitble with USB 2.0 and 3.0
My MBP is from late 2011 and I think it is 3.0 yet when it does backup a bit it doesnt do it particularly fast then it pauses.

If you have a late 2011 MBP, then you have USB 2.0 ports. Only the mid-2012 models came with USB 3.0 ports. Is your Seagate a USB 3.0 model? It should be backward compatible with your machine; you just won't acheive USB 3.0 speeds. How did you format your drive? To use with Time Machine, it must be formated as "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)".
I'm suspecting (and rather hoping) that it's just a formatting problem. Try using Disk Utility to reformat the drive as "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)" in order to work with TM.
    Good luck,
