P4N SLI-FI Raid Problem

Fired up the mobo and configured the Raid Bios with 2 identical HD Maxtor 160GB SATA2 in striping mode (RAID 0) and striping block optimal. The array was successfuly created and proceeded to install the operating system (Windows XP).
After i specify the NVIDIA drivers (NVIDIA RAID CLASS DRIVER & NVIDIA NForce Storage Controller) the computer stays at the Windows setup screen mentioning "Setup is starting windows" doing nothing else.
I tried to install on a normal P-ATA HD and everything worked fine.
Any ideas someone???
PS.
The configuration i use is the following:
CPU: Intel P4 3.4Ghz M650
MOBO: P4N SLI :P
RAM: 2x1GB Modules DDR2 533Mhz
VGA: NX7800GT PCI-E
PSU: Herolchi 550W +3.3V@32A +5V@38 +12V1@18 +12V2@17

For P4N SLI motherboard, its SATA 1-4 port are controlled by NV Raid controller and its SATA 5, 6 port are controlled by MCP404 chipset.
If you connect to SATA 1-4, you should go to BIOS->Integrated Peripherals->nVidia RAID Setup to enable the related item.
If you connect to SATA 5,6, you need install the Silicon RAID driver and go to BIOS->Integrated Peripherals->Onboard Devices Configuration to enable the Onboard Silicon RAID Controller.

  • NEO4 Plat Sli SIL3231 Raid problem - Can't boot after BIOS Flash!

Hi, I have and Neo4 Platinum SLI. I had "the problem" a while back with the nVida raid where there was a hang on shutdown. I then created a RAID0 using my two Rators on the SIL3132 controller, and have three hitachi drives hooked up to SATA1 - SATA3. Back then, I had trouble getting my SIL3132 array to be the main boot volume. I could boot when no other drives were attached, but as soon as I attached them, I get the boot disk error after post. Somehow I got it to work, but not think this time, I flashed the BIOS and ran into the same problems, as the BIOS got reset.
First, I went in and re-enabled RAID on the sil3132 controller, and change the boot order to have the RAID voluime be the first boot device, and my other drivers be the next on down the line. Upon rebooting, my system hangs after verifying DMI pool at a blanksscreen for 5 - 10 minutes then gives my the "missing HAL.dll error". if I go back into the BIOS and disable SATA1/SATA2 and SATA3/SATA4 my computer boots just fine. I even completley disconnected my three drives an my system boots just fine. I have searched these forums and could not find anything close to my issue and wondered if it is something I am just missing in the setup. I will say that at POST my IDE devices has always read:
    IDE Primary Master [None]
    IDE Secondary Master [None]
IDE Primary Slave (my first DVD/R drive)
IDE Secondary Slave (My second DVD/R drive)
IDE Third Master (a 250gb drive)
IDE Fourth Master (a 250gb drive)
IDE Fifth Master (a 250gb drive)
    IDE Sixth Master [None]
Is this normal? all my hard drives are SATA. the raptors and three SATAII drives.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Since the Nvida raid problem seems to have been fixed (as far as I read) I would like to go back to using the nVidia raid controller. I just need to back up my system first!
    Thanks in advance.

    Jkmet,
I have noted the same problem, with a USB Pen drive.
If I leave it plugged in and shut down, the next time I cold boot it tries to boot for the pen drive.  What I found out the any time you add a drive before booting the BIOS places it at the top of the Hard Drive Priority list making it the boot drive.  Same thing happens when I plug in a new SATA and does not mater where it is connected.  So, what I have to do any time you add a drive with the power off you have to boot to BIOS reset the Hard drive priority list, then save, exit and reboot to boot from you windows drive.
I am sure this is a BIOS Bug, but MSI states that the way it should would work.

When submitting a problem, include a complete list of your system components; include part numbers, all Power Supply Voltages, and their output ratings.  It is almost impossible to estimate what your problem is without knowing something about it. Here is the link to the web site.

  • P4N SLI-FI boot problem

I just assembled a PC with an MSI P4N SLI-FI motherboard, P4 3.2GHz CPU, 2 pcs Kingston 512MB DDR2 PC533, MSI GT6600 PCI-E card, 480 watt HEC PSU, LG DVD combo drive and a Samsung 32" LCD TV for monitor.
After doing a Live Update on the BIOS, the system hangs on boot-up (no beeps, no video). The LED on the D bracket 2 says: Testing Base and Extended Memory. (It is stuck red on the two left most LED's).
After a couple or more hardware reset, the system will then proceed to boot.
I did a stress test using BurnInTest and everything passed including the memory.
Is there a possibility it is the PSU, or a buggy BIOS? Should I restore the old BIOS?

When it hang, meaning you see nothing on the screen? This sounds like ... hmm... your 3.2GHz P4, is it a Northwood or Prescott or Cedarmill?
It could be power supply but it could be something else, such as RAM. HAve you tried to set DDR voltage to 1.9V instead ?
Yes, nothing on the screen. My 3.2 GHz is an Intel 640 (I do not know the name)
I ran a stress test (burnittest) after booting and everything is reported PASSED, did this test several times. I also changed voltages on the DDR, NB etc. and same problem, I have been playing with the unit for three days now...
I transferred the RAM, PCI-E Graphics card and CPU to my Shuttle XPC and it worked fine. So it could be the PSU or MOBO...
I just checked the specs on my HEC power supply, and the 12V1 is rated at 17A and the second rail of 12V is rated at 15A, I remember reading on my MOBO manual that it requires 18A on the 12V rail! Could this be it?

  • [nVidia Series] P4N Diamond Major Raid Problems

This is a very hard problem to explain so i will be very basic i can not get raid to run on this board, with the drivers that came with the board windows will set up but then can not reboot! With newer drivers from nvidia windows can not copy files for installation. At the moment i have windows set up on a single drive and it runs fine But i did not spend all this money just to run 1 drive to me this a worthless board if i cant get raid going any one out there have any ideas pls let me know.

NEC 16x Dual layer DVD Burner (IDE)
    MSi TV Tuner Plus
    4x 80 Gig sata2 hd's
550W Rosewill PSU (I allready know its not the prob!)

Just to be clear, the process you used was:
    1. In the board bios (accessed with the Del key) you enabled the nVidia raid function.
    2. Then you enabled Raid for the Primary and Secondary SATA1 channels
    3. You then rebooted the computer and used the F10 key to access the raid bios in order to configure the drives.
The online manual doesn't talk about step 3 at all. You should be able to refer to section 5 in the english manual from the AMD board if you don't have it in your paper copy:
    http://www.msi.com.tw/program/support/manual/mnu/spt_mnu_detail.php?UID=637&kind=1
I would think the configuration should be the same.
Good luck, you've gone past my limited knowledge on these boards.

  • P4N SLI-FI Intel Edition Memory Problems

Ok Im new to DDR2 but this just seems like something is not right. Ok so I have the P4N SLI-FI Intel Edition Mobo. Flashed to newest bios as of 01/23/06 Ok so the ram comes up in bios as ddr2-667 but when I boot to windows it clocks down to 333mhz effective clock and 167mhz real clock, giving me a 5300 bandwidth( checked with everest ultimate edition). Also this ram is Corsair Value Ram rated at 667 ddr2 pc5300. I am running a 1gb dual channel kit I had bought from newegg. I looked on the internet elseware and found somthings about speed ratings and such but nothing that tells me straight up if 5300 should be my bandwidth, I have 14 years of computer experiance and common sense tells me that my bandwidth should be 10.6gb. Again ddr2 is completly new to me. Also I have read that pc5400 solves some problems in other boards not sure what they ment by problems but I was thinking maybe I bought the wrong ram, also on msi's website I checked the pdf file for supported ram and again I did NOT see the ram I had purchased but that means almost nothing as they leftout alot of major brands of ddr2-667 and other speeds aswell.
I am really pissed off at this point. I can tell my system is slow, boot up times are longer then my Amd XP3200+
Also another problem I am having is that the Nvidia GbE Lan is not working at all. Checked the bios and its turned on still no go. I had to put a Lan card in to even get online. This is not as important as the first problem but still annoying.
    Thanks for your time.

I mean it sounded kind of like it was correct but, in windows I expected something to say ddr2 667 and all the programs I am running label it as ddr2 333
Even my everest ultimate 2006 and sisoft sandra say its ddr2 333, the benchmarks that do come with those programs show other peoples ram running at ddr2 667
Also the comp just seems slow windows loads in 5 bars (the thing at the bottom when booting) and then another 30 secs after that.
My other comp an AthlonXP 3200+, 512 ddr400 DC, 40gb ide hdd, 9600xt) loads windows in 1.5 bars and instant to desktop with older technology.
The games dont seem to be loading fast at all either. Basically I am very dissapointed in the performance of ddr2-667 its not faster than ddr400 by any means and if its the board then im really heated because this board should fly, funny how I read reviews on the board before I buy it and they said it was all good, then I find more in depth reviews that really say this board is below average.
Could it be possible that ddr2 5400 would be a better choice because the board cant support ddr2 5300?
Again thanks for your help guys im just dissapointed in the performance, sucks after spending $450+ and the video card is the only on par piece I've gotten.

  • [nVidia Series] Problems with boot time for p4n sli

I have spent a couple of hours digging trying to find out some information.
I bought the p4n sli (not diamond) and everything seems to work fine, BUT the boot time is very long.  It seems to try to access the dvd drive for 30 to 45 seconds and then it will boot.  Once it starts to boot I get 4 error code beeps and one that sounds as if it would be the normal everything is good beep (the fifth beep is always different and usually in the middle of the four same tone beeps).
I have a intel 630 cpu, a nvidia 6800gt vid card, one gig of corsair dual channel memory and 1 gig of geil dual channel memory (I get the same errors without the different memory), I have a 450 thermaltake psu, a maxtor 120 gig sata drive and a 160 gig ide drive.
I have no problems with anything once the computer is booted up.  It just takes a lot longer to even start to boot than I have seen with modern computers.
The beep codes thread stated that
4 beeps - Timer not operational - bad motherboard
5 beeps - Processor error - bad processor
Would I still be able to run this computer if either of these was true?  I would love any advice.  I do not want to burn up anything.

    hey LtDano38,
Im sure that the beeps that you are hearing are on account of the amount of USB devices that you have hooked up. You should get one for every device, the low tone one that you hear is the bios beep saying that everything is normal. The USB beeps should come before the different tone one at the end.
As for the boot time, i would try a different cd-row to see if it does the same. Also is the drive IDE or SATA?
    GL and post back.
ok, I do have four usb devices, a flight stick, a nostromo, and usb mouse and keyboard, I have one ide hd, one sata hd and an ide dvd.  I tried slaving the dvd off of the hd and with it by itself on the other ide channel.  My os is on the ide hd.  One last question, can I use anymore abbreviations?

  • P4n sli

Hi all, I recently bought a p4n sli off ebay, I built it up with a p4 640 cpu, 1 gig of 667 ram and a 7600gs vid card. Firstly, while searching the MSI site I was unable to find this exact board, it's the board with only 1 lan connection and the "sli" board between the 2 pci-e slots, anyway i turned it on and the cpu fan spun up and the hdd spun up but no output to the monitor and no beeps. I have a celeron 331 cpu spare, and after some mucking around and getting nowhere I decided to put the 640 back in my old pc and in my haste to build up the MSI board i had thrown my little cpu cover away so i had nowhere to put the celeron cpu so I put it in the MSI board really just to put it somewhere while i went searching thru the bin. Before I had a chance to raid the bin I wanted to get my pc back online and decided to do a search and see if I could find anyone else having probs too. Any to cut a longer story shorter, I decided to turn on the MSI again with the celeron in it and BINGO it came to life.
I still dont understand why the 640 wont run in it but even with the celeron in it it's faster than it was in my old pc. Can anyone offer any ideas on what my problem is and which board I have? Thanks in advance

Quote from: NovJoe on 26-April-07, 20:55:53
So the P640 runs in your old PC?
Yes the old pc has a gigabyte board in it but only runs with ddr1 ram. On the taskmanager it shows the 640 as having 2 cpu's, I I don't know why tho.
    Cheers

    hi guys.
the Winbond W83627THF is reporting 2 thermistor diodes in addition to the cpu's PII diode. does anyone up here know exactly where those thermistor diodes are physically located on the p4n sli motherboard?
i've had this p4n sli for 1 month now and the only problem i had wasn't the motherboards fault. it works fine. i can rip a dvd while running winamp, hammering google earth and copernic w/ ie. nice and smooth . i think i'll keep it.

i shot a tech question regarding this to msi support and got a response within 15 minutes as follows ........
    Dear Customer,
The location of the diode are located near the IO Ports on the mb.

    that's close enough for me.

  • P4N-SLI support Pentium D 805 Smithfield core or not???

Regarding the subject above and after i refering to MSI official website, I still wonder the P4N-SLI mobo support the Pentium D 805 2.66 GHz Smithfield CPU or not cause the CPU support list on MSI website shown that it's still under testing. P4N Diamond support this particular CPU and is that P4N-SLI possible support this CPU too?

Quote from: Maesus on 27-August-06, 02:06:05
The reason of "not" supporting 805 is some features such as EIST will not be available for P4N chipset. Multipler if 805 is 20x, with EIST, it will drop back to 14x, giving 1.86Ghz, very good for thermal/temperature and save power. This feature is not suported by P4N, so all the features inside the CPU will not be fully supported as well. I think, that's the problem why MSI hesitate to make the CPU as "supported".
805D does not support EIST nor does it support HT. This can be seen here. Only the 9xx series did and the earlier series (B1) had it disabled due to stability issues. So EIST should not have been a problem with my 940D as it is a B1 stepping. The only problem would have then been simply the 65mm fab which I don't think was an issue at all with the NF4 chipset. The B1 stepping would have had a coding same as the 8xx series which also did not support EIST. The following should spell out what I was ranting on about.
    Quote
The Pentium D processor supports Intel's EM64T technology, the XD Bit and like most current Pentium 4s, uses the LGA775 form factor on an 800 MT/s bus. The only motherboards guaranteed to work with the Pentium D (and Extreme Edition) are those based on the 945, 955, and 975 series of chipsets, as well as the nForce 4 SLI Intel Edition and ATI Radeon Xpress. The Pentium D 820 will not work with the nForce 4 SLI Intel Edition due to some power design issues, though they were rectified for the X16 version of the chipset (which the P4NSLI chipset is). Motherboards based on the 915 and 925 series of chipsets will not work at all, as the chipsets do not have support for more than one processor core (a result of Intel trying to prevent motherboard manufacturers from making Xeon motherboards with the chipsets, as happened with the 875P). The 865 and 875 series chipsets do have multiprocessor support. Motherboards based on those chipsets may be Pentium D compatible so long as the manufacturer provides an appropriate BIOS update
So with this is becomes quite apparent that MSI simply had to make a few changes with the bios to recognize the fact that the B1 stepping did not support EIST and the 9xx series would have worked. But rather they simply chose to lump all the steppings together and not support any with the board. This is what ticked me off. Show them facts and they simply ignore it and then tell you that it's being phased out and no more will be done with it. What a crock.

  • Dead P4N SLI...4 Days Old

    Hi
My new mobo died after 4 days out of the box and I could use some advice as I'm going to have to figure out what to return to the online company that I purchased it from. Could it be the processor?
    I put together a:
MSI P4N SLI mobo with a 3ghz Celeron and 512mb chunk of Geil 667 RAM with a 480 watt Mutant Mods PSU. Yes, the RAM is in the correct slot.
After 4 days (24 hours a day) of operating fine, yesterday I was talking on Skype and my machine went cold, lights out.
Tried rebooting, can hear the CPU crunching, fans and lights working, DVD drive blinking, hard drives are humming but monitor remains in sleep mode and there are no POST beeps to be heard. Tried resetting the CMOS, nada...no luck. Tried booting a few hours later and the monitor came on and I got into the BIOS so I let it sit like that. After a few minutes it died again. Does this mean anything to anyone?
Would a dead CPU prevent the BIOS from being accessed or is the BIOS able to operate without a CPU?
Would a dead mobo be able to boot again but only for a brief time?
    Argh!!!!

hcoshawn, I think you just solved the problem.....I'll wait it out and see what happens
On the board, just about the top PCIe slot, there is a 4 pin molex connector to add more power to the board, in addition to the 24 pin main and the square 4 pin ATX. When I originally built up the system, I had this hooked up and then removed it thinking that I'd only need it there if I have a vid card in that slot and it worked fine...for 4 days. Anyway, I tried putting if back just now after reading your post and although there are no hard drives hooked to the board right now, with all the power connectors stuck to the board, she booted up and gave me a single POST beep, which for this board is a positive POST.
I'm just going to let it run for awhile and see if it shuts down again, but she is purring like a kitten now..
Any ideas why it would work for 4 days without this connector and then just stop working? I think it could be that I installed the nVidia drivers for the board on that 4th day and that initiated a call for more power from the board....not sure.
I am sofa can we todd did! :D

  • P6N Hardware raid problems (sata 6,7)

I didn't find the sig things which i find odd but anyway...
    here my rig
    P6n Diamond
    2 asus 8800gts in sli
    i have 4 HDD WD 200 gigs sata2
(will go into detail about those lovely HDDS)
    dvd burning sata (currently unplug)
    dvd rom IDE plug in
    2 gigs of ram 4x512
    core duo 2.66 ghz
OK here the problem i wanted 4 HDDS in raid 0 or raid 1 or the 1+0 since i got 4 ... works GREAT fast machines until something went wrong which blew out my original 4 gigs ram 4x1 gig ram sticks and no matter what ram i put in it did not work...sent it in for RMA got it back ever since i got it back RAID BEEN ACTING UP!!! my raid would FAIL in 1+0(i assume it means stripeing and mirroring) and 0 my desktop would hang for a few moments doing gaming regular uses email internet music video uses OR IDLEING after it recovers i get a balloon saying that access fail er to X.X.M drive it use to be one drive now when one acts up the other three follows it examples that was in raid 0 and 1+0 same issues once in a blue moon wait that everyday when i have it in raid 1+0 i found a brand new harddrive in my computer the raid had degraded ? what that means well i know what but HOW ? how did it degraded? so i rebuild the array and geese what compleat fail er it dies and i loose all my stuff on it...now be for someone comes in such as MSI saying that my HDD may be at fault it not...infact it is currently in raid 0 just 2 of them on my other desktop working great and the BEST PART it is FASTER on the P6N i get 200MB burst and when it was in raid 0 i get like 120 continuous read and in raid 1+0 i believe half that speed or 90mbs in the older desktop i get 330mb BURST and i forgot what i got for continuous ready again probably 90 and it is stable plus i ran forever hour es test on the HDD surface scans errors and such and it in 100% good shape and ready to rock....so you guys know the HDDS were in sata 1-4 sata 5 was my dvd burner and 6-7 blank....so i was using the SOFTWARE raid and it not doing so well at all i did try using 2 drives i didn't do a proper test yet but i think it also failed...so seeing that I'm having allot of software raid problems decided to get from bad to worse i cant get anywhere with it so here the new set up now...
2 hdds ONLY and PHYSICALY installed since the other 2 are in the other computer i have an IDE dvd rom plug  and drive 1 and 4 are plug into the sata 6 and 7 the black and red sata heads...NO BLUE LIGHTS AT ALL NEVER SEEN A BLUE LIGHT... as we know Jp1 and JP2 i think ? there are 4 pins there are 4 possible ways to set that up i tryed all four and no blue lights not even a blink i look close I CANT FIND THE LIGHT PHYSICALLY INSTALLED or i dint recognize it ( i hope i am being blind) what i mean there four ways i tryed jumping one pin from jp1 to jp2 instead of two pins on jp1 and i even put 2 jumpers on both jp1 and 2 and both jumpers the other way from jp1 pin two jp2 pin actually that 6 ways my bad no blue lights...
the BIOS is set to IDE didn't work in raid as i read from other places if things go well light come on and the BIOS sees it as a single drive which means no floppy to installed 3rd party drives AWESOME!!! cant get it working :( .. it not detecting it at all it saying i have NO HDDS installed at all
i sent the board in for a second rma..guess what they did they pulled it out and put it in a box and send it right back to me....the moment it got there i get an email saying it being shiped back and i was like oh nice they replace it...they didn't TOUCH it...so I'm calling them up the next day...to find out why they did that and to try to set up the SIL raid....
now what I'm asking is in case MSI don't help how you guys get yours to work or tell me how to get it working ....and if the HARDWARE raid is a pain then why is my raid failing too much in software raid dose anyone know how to keep the raid alive in software ? i originally wanted software so it supports 4 drives but it failing so I'm dropping it to two drives in the hardware raid and i cant get it to even w/e it is it need to do....any thing will help right now I'm stump i went to this forum spent all day looking through it and tryed some stuff no luck :(
I'm using an ASUS board on my older desktop for 2 years straight more or less it still in raid 0 NO ERRORS it is sata1 that the HDD only maxi um speed with 2 sata1 in raid 0 it acts like 1 sata2 drive and i never had to reinstalled my OS for 2 years and it gets better the ORGINAL motherboard for that old desktop was an MSI and right now that original board is on my self causes a lil device fryed ( don't think it msi fault but got fed up with that board with allot of bugs it was a NEO F or something really old lol....
    awesome a spell checker :D

i dont know how two memory stick whould make a diffrent but to answer your question no i havent the goal is to have all 4 sticks and yes they work great i put them in my old system as well and was able to see incrase of performance even though it two gigs all my other hardwares are working find cause when the mainboard was sent in for repaires i move some parts over so i can play SOME games while i wait...now for the power supply it has MORE then enough power it is a 1200 watt thermaltake with 4 12v rails 2 are 20 amps and the other 2 or 36 amps.. 5v rail is 30 or more but the 12 v rail are acurate i was studding it so i can properly connect the 36 amp to my video cards all power cord are plug in like i said all hardwares are working fine causes they were tested befor and none of them were at faults..
however i will try the memtest86 now dose it need to have an OS installed (dont have it causes it wont see my HDDS in sata 6 and 7) i have to head out in a bit but when i come back ill check it out causes the orginal rams were working find and everythign was happy untill the motherboard blew out and took out 4 ram sticks so i brought a new one from a diffrent brand wich fell into the compatible list of ram for this board the other one was not "comptiable" thank you be back shortly...
i forgot to mention befor i whould like a good list of directions beside the one in my manuel of how to set up the sata 6 and 7 raid if wores come to wores im going to back up my old HDDS wich have been working great and move it over to the HARDWARE raid and see if it works i will post what i find out but in the mean time the proper set up of the raid hardware will be nice in case i did something wrong thank you

  • MSI P4N SLI E -F

    Hi all,
I've recently purchased a new Msi p4n sli xe -f mobo (no idea what the f stands for) for my new setup and i've already run into a problem.
After building up my machine and turning it on the leds on the backplate do the usual flashing and then it sits there with leds 1,3 & 4 on red and 2 on green.  I've checked in the user manual which says it's a memory problem so today i went to PC World  and bought a single 512 strip of ddr2 533 to test this out.
I installed the new memory but the same problem persists, does anyone have any idea's?
I've used a standard PCI graphics card to allow me to setup the bios and windows before i buy an 8800gtx card but haven't been able to do anything because of the problems i've described.
The rest of my setup is:
    Msi P4N SLI E -F Mobo
    3Ghz Intel Pentium 4 Processor 530J
    (Now) 1.5Gb ddr2 533mhz ram 2xKingston 1xPny

Try booting with only the following hardwares:
    CPU + HSF
    Mainboard
1 x RAM each time swapping out upon posting failure
    PSU
    Low end GPU
Feedback the results and I'll try to verify what is the best alternative you can do.
To clear CMOS with jumper can be easily achieved by taking the mainboard's battery out for 5 - 10 secs and placing it back in place.
Ok, i've done that and i get the same problem no matter what i try.
The gpu is as minimal as it can get, it's a pci (not express) graphics card based on the early nvidia chips that i borrowed from a friend and it works ok because he tested when i was at his prior to me installing it into my machine.
A maxi gamer cougar or something like that. i know it was an nvidia card anyway.
I've tried contacting Msi through their technical support email and i got an automated reply saying that they were dealing with a number of other cases and that they would reply as soon as they could...........that was over a week ago now.

  • SATA RAID problem on K8N Neo2 Platinum (nForce3 ultra) & winXP x64

I entered on MSI driver dowload page, put my model, and i found out that the RAID driver for win x64 wasn't released (nforce3 ultra), but in the same page was the driver for the nforce4, so I supposed it was compatible. I made the driver disk. press F6 and he askme for the drivers, ok, i introduce BOTH drivers, he detects perefctly the SATA RAID (stripping) format the disk, copy the files and ask me for some .CATof teh raid driver that wasn't on the zip file.... omit files, reboots, completes the instalation, but on the first boot of win x64 when it's just about to show the windows screen, a bue windows, and resets the pc so fast that's unreadable.  fail safe start.. same crash.
I Installed win on an IDE and it run prefectly... In th other hand... without installing any driver the windows instalation recognices the SATA drives, but not the RAID. Maybe I just got to install the raid driver but not the SATA driver... the nforce3 driver form nvidia.com is pretty old... The real funny is that when i installed winXp x64 BETA i hadn' any problem... (winXP 64 doesn't admit the 32 bit driver=
Which driver i'm supposed to install? to INSTALL winxp64 on a SATA RAID and make it boot from there?
    Thaks a lot

HI! i'm the one wih the raid problem on a k8n neo2....
That's what a i Did.. i unpacked the exe and copy the files in a floppy... question is: if i do that, windows instaler askme for some files that aren't in the .exe, anway it reconices the raid and everithing goes fine until the first BOOT on windos... it shows a blue screen, butremoves it so fast that i cant read it or pause the system. But i know it's a raid problem because if i install it on a ide disk it works.
The nforce3 drivers are almost a year old, and i'm not sure if nforce4 is compatible...
I think the're compatible because if you enter in msi driver download page and select my model, they put the Nforce3 and nforce4 for win64 and my model is only nforce3. The thing is they havent released the nforce3 for WIN 64.... So.. It's normal that win asks me for some files that ain't in the .zip file (i extracted the files o course) and Which driver should i put the Nvidia one year old nforce3 or the new nforce4. (the nforce3 for 32 bits is rejected by windows) or... i have to wait the new nforce3?
    thanks for helps

  • MSI P4N SLI, Long wait before BIOS post? (nForce 4 SLI Intel)

Does anyone else have a P4N SLI? Or maybe you might just know anyway...
Everytime I boot the PC, before the BIOS POST even starts theres a long wait (insanely long, compared to other PCs and mobos I've had and used) around 45 sec to a minute, where nothing is shown on the monitor and the DVD and CD drives are constantly read (even though theres nothing inside em). Then the BIOS post comes and the rest of the whole process is fast as I could wish for....
Is that normal with the P4N SLI or maybe even with nForce motherboards?
If not, any ideas what it could be? (I tried stripping my pc down to barebones, minimal RAM, no extra cards, 1 hdd and 1 cd drive (and even without the cd drive) yet still it takes the same amount of time...)
    Please help...
    Thanks in advance.
    my specs are as follows:
    Intel P4 w/HT 3.0 Ghz LGA775 Land, 1 MB L2 Cache (530J)
    Creative SoundBlaster Audigy 2 ZS
    3 GB DDR2 @ 533 Mhz
    3 HDDs (1 WD Caviar 7200 RPM SATA I, 1 Maxtor 7200 RPM SATA I/II, 1 WD Caviar SE 7200 RPM SATA I/II)
GIGABYTE 3DAurora Case (this case has 3 x 120mm fans)
    GIGABYTE 3D Cooler Pro Fan
    2 SONY Optical Drives (1 DVD/CD-RW, 1 DVD+/-RW)

    Do you mean
    1GB, 512MB, 1GB, 512MB?
    Sorry, ya thats what i meant, 2 GB was a mistake. Its 1 GB, 512, 1, 512.

As stated before. Remove the 512meg sticks. To run properly, all sticks should be the same. Reason is due to timings and voltages. Also try to up the voltages to the cpu.
I removed the 512 sticks before, like I said, and I'm just running with the 2 x 1GB sticks, it hasnt had any positive effect on the long wait before POST. The voltage for the RAM is 1.8v right now as according to the BIOS, is that the correct value?
Did I mention that during this long wait my monitor is in sleep mode, then 1 short beep is heard, the lights on my keyboard reset as is usual on any PC and the BIOS does its POST (if i pause after the keyboard lights, its usually auto-detecting my HDDs, and optical drives). It's strange because during that long wait nothing is happening other than my cd drive and dvd drive intermittently flashing and my HDD light is constantly on....
The strange thing is this same setup was working perfectly fine on my old Intel D915GEV motherboard... and it also runs perfectly fine on this mobo too, once you get past the 1 minute+ waiting time...
