P55-GD80 Shuts down after 15 to 20 seconds

I'm just putting together a new system
Motherboard P55-GD80
PSU Corsair 750
CPU I7-860
GSKILL 8GB (4 x 2GB)
The motherboard will POST correctly but after a few seconds it just shuts down. I barely have time to enter the BIOS but not enough time to save any changes. If I don't enter the BIOS then my Windows 7 Setup starts running but after a few second the whole thing shuts down.
I was trying with all memory modules at first then read a post in the forum to try to boot with one stick first. I did that. I removed all but one, the first black closest to the CPU. I got the same exact behavior. The LED codes are all correct.

The CPU has a Thermal Protection Feature that will cause the processor to automatically shut down, if the temperature reaches a certain point.  However, the temperature values that are of importance here are the Core Temperature values which are not shown in BIOS.  What you see in BIOS is the "general" CPU Temperature which is usually around 15-25°C lower than the CPU's core temperatures (depending on sensor calibration).
If you get 66°C in BIOS, right after startup, this indicates that you do in fact have an overheating problem.  It seems that your processor is overheating rapidly after the system starts causing a thermal shutdown after 15-20 seconds.
Of course, this is only a hypothesis.  To verify/falsify it, please take of the heatsink, clean the contact surfaces of the heatsink and the processor, apply a proper amount of new/fresh thermal paste (not too less and most  certainly not too much) and then reseat the Heatsink.
Test and see what happens after that.

    Hello
    my ps 2014 can not open it shuts down after 10-15 seconds. the old version run fine

    There are several things you can do I understand.
    1) Check the battery condition using a program like the widget iStatPro (free). If the battery health is less than 80% then Apple have a free replacement program for this.
    2) Switch the machine off and disconnect the power supply. Remove the battery and leave out for several minutes - to allow complete discharge of all electronic components, I think. Then re-instal the battery, etc and restart. I'm not 100% clear on all steps in this procedure but it provides a reset which sometimes resolves problems at least temporarily.
    3) Disconnect all peripherals and see how it works. One of these might be calling for more power than it should.

  • Apps shut down after a few seconds, apps shut down after a few seconds

    Hi. I have an iPhone 4S running iOS5.1.1. Since the update, all of my apps, including messeges and email, close after a few seconds. I can't send messages, or use any of the apps. I have reformatted the device several times, and also done a fresh install as a new user. I still have the same problem. Can anyone give me suggestions?

    Thanks. Tried this and still not working. I can't even send a lengthy sms or email, as EVERY app shuts down after a few seconds. Sometimes it even fails to launch. The battery life is less than 4 hours, even after turning off 3G, wi-fi, bluetooth and cellular data.
    It must be a hardware problem, as the phone gets extremely hot as well.
    Apple are far from helpful. Their customer service is dreadful, if you live outside of the States. No telephone or email support. Time to flush the phone and buy a Samsung Galaxy 3.

  • When I start iPhoto it opens up but shut down after a few seconds. Any advice please?

    Try this:  launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new, test library.  Import some photos and test to see if the same problem persists. If that does the same or you can't create a new library try the following:
    1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home/Library/ Preferences folder.
    2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
    User/Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder (Snow Leopard and Earlier).
    or with Lion and Mt. Lion from the User/Library/Containers/com.apple.iPhoto/
    Data/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder
    3 - launch iPhoto and try again.
    NOTE 1: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto.  You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
    NOTE 2:  In Lion and Mountain Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.

  • MacBook Retina shuts down after a few seconds after every boot

    Hi there
    My retina macbook keeps shutting down after booting and rebooting by its own a minute later. No error message is displayed or anything like it, it just magically shuts down.
    It had been working fine until now but it seems to be going crazy for whatever reason...
    When it shuts down by itself, I can't turn it on myself. It does it on its own even if the lid is closed and then shuts down again after about 30 seconds.
    This only happens when it's connected to a power source (it doesn't even start when it's not).
    I have tried to reset the PRAM without success.
    The only time the issue doesn't happen is when I do a Safe Boot.
    Can anybody tell me what is up with my Macbook (I really need it for work AND school).
    Thanks

    Have you done a SMC reset?

  • My brand new 6th gen ipod nano keeps shutting down after about 30 seconds?

    My new 6th generation ipod nano keeps shutting down after 30 seconds. It has been registered with itunes and has about 200+ songs on it. I have not tried to reset it because i was not sure what this would do. Please help!

    This is usually a sign that your headphones are not plugged all the way in.  Make sure you cannot see any silver still showing from the headphone's plug.  It may require a little extra force to get the headphones to become fully inserted.  You should hear a sort of clicking noise indicating that they have been fully seated.
    Also check the headphone port from a damage or debris.

  • Km3m mobo shut down after a few seconds

    i have been playing with this new mobo for a while now trying to get it to work
    it keeps shutting down after 15 or so seconds, so i tried every possible combination
    with the power sw and reset sw and such. still had problem so i came on here to read up on similar problems. then i read some advice that cpu might be overheating or heating to quickly and is causing comptuer to shut off. so i took out the cpu and turned her on and she didnt not shut down so i am assuming that i have this problem. the advice given to the other guy was to make sure the hsf paste was on correctly. now is the paste that improtant or is the hsf defect any advice?

    yeah i didnt put the paste on the die, didnt think it made such a difference, have to wait a little bit to go get some more paste. but now the original psu is not working,( it was an hour ago), i got another that is but i cant keep it. the fan works when you do the green wire black wire trick so i am really confused now. yes wires are connected properly
    oh rates on psu non- working one  +3 @ 28a, +5@40a, +12@17a
    3+5 total max 220w, total 380w
    working one +3@38a +5@28a +12@23a
    3+5 total 240, total 380

  • NPR app shuts down after a few seconds after tapping it open, I deleted and reopened it ,but still shuts down?

  • My email opens without words then shuts down after about ten seconds.  I've tried closing it, tried restarting iPad and resetting the iPad, all to no avail.

    For the last three days, when I press my mail icon, it loads the blank template then closes after about ten seconds. I've tried to close and reopen it, have shut down and restarted the iPad and have reset it, but nothing has worked. I tried to use the Apple online support but was told I would have to pay £25!  The iPad has not been the same since we upgraded the software as it is much slower, but the emails have not been a problem until now.

  • Power shuts down after 1-2 seconds?

    I've been very happy with this computer for about a year:
    Mobo = K9N SLI Platinum (MS 7250) 570 SLI (this one was rma'ed last year due to the cd burn issue)
    RAM = 4X 1G Corsair Dominator
    CPU = AM2 dualcore 5200
    Video=MIS NX8800GTS 320
    PWR=700W OCZ GameXStream PS
    I turned it on the other day and system power cuts out after about 1 or 2 seconds.
    So far I have not been able to boot the system at all.
    I have observed the D-Bracket with 4 red lights, but I don't know if it really has time to run it's test cycle before the power cuts out...
    I'm not really sure how to start trouble shooting this issue.
    PS? CPU? Mobo?
    Any sugestions are welcome. Can the mobo do this by itself? I was reading the manual but did not see it that use case described anywhere.
    Thanks
    Chris.

    Can't really defend the motherboard, but Belkin card and DVD-burner can have problems all of their own. And if we can help you with one of those things the failure rate is down dramatically.
    Belkin card bottom PCI-slot. On-board disabled. Sometimes disabling a service, which I can't remember right now - zeroconfig...? - can help. How do you know it does not work?
    Set UDMA2 for the DVD-burner. But you should also say what it is.
    Add: Mysterious problems is often Windows related. How about taking unnecessary things out, use a clean hard disk and do a fresh installation?
