P55-GD80x, OC Genie, voltages too high?

Hello and first off let me thank all the MSi staff and and more importantly the product designers for making such greats board, this P55-GD80X board is fantastic
This is not my first MSi purchase and probably wont be the last, the community support seems much homier.
Alright down to the gritty. Im usually a GPU overclocker (XFX 5870) 860/1200, its locked at 900/1200. Only solution ive found is to flash the BIOS to another card so it unlocks it.
All that is irrelevant, hope you're all still following me here.
The OC Genie function really intrigued me, i was never one for CPU clocking or MEM oc'ing but it was rather simple. As its known, press of a switch, turn the comp on and bam, its overclocked.
Heres where the problem comes into play
The above pictures are both at DEFAULT values, first picture is idle, second is under load.
So i guess as you can see, under load the voltage goes down a bit.
Now heres for the OC genie results
First picture is of idle results AFTER OC Genie, second is load results. Third pic is the memory overclock it did.
Again as you can see the CPU voltage drops under load, but running 1.4v at idle after apply OC Genie?
seems a bit off right? I also have HT off and Intel Turbo Boost off.
Is it normal for the voltage to get higher on idle then go down under load?
Cause i've seen some posts where people are getting around my speeds
with around the same voltage i have UNDER load with OC Genie (1.3V)
Is this anything i should be concerned about? and if theres a fix please help a brotha out.
My chip idling at 1.4v+ just seems insane.
Also have a CNPS9900 CPU cooler on it, temps arent really an issue.
If anyone will PLLEAASEE help me out, or explain to me what i have to do to get this in worrying outa my head.
NEW to CPU oc'ing, not so much with GPU. So please dont leave any tips or full steps out.
Thanks in advance guys  !!..Will be checking this thread very frequently.
My rig.
i7 870 Lynnfield
Kingston HyperX 8GB (4x2)
P55-GD80 Xtreme Edition
XFX Radeon 5870
CM Silent Pro 700watt PSU
1TB HD
EDIT: Also, im unable to change the voltages in the bios AND the MSi control center, theyre both greyed out.
Even in the bios the CPU voltage is in red (red meaning bad obviously lol)
Im at the point where if enabling OC Genie is gonna cause me problems down the road, then i just wanna forgettabout it.
Also a point, without OC Genie enabled im able to change the voltages, problem is im just not adequately
knowledged enough to start from scratch and entering all the values (hence the OC Genie seeming like pure gold)
Also, whats the deal with all the phase controls in the BIOS? should these ALL be disabled or enabled? i've heard alot of mixed results.
Sorry for writing a novel guys, just trying to give you the most information i can.
Nothing worse than going into battle without good intel (no pun intended).

and @DaLoon i actually do use msiafterburner!, it still limits me to 900ghz. I've been told that all XFX cards, or the ones i've seen at least are locked at 900.
I know they can be unlocked by flashing to ASUS or GIGABYTE, i mean i cant even change the voltage in afterburner, the tab literally doesnt exist.
Mmmm odd,
read this then:
http://www.overclockers.com/hd-5870-bios-flashing/
Its about the flashing you're talking about.
Remember, you do this at your own risk, if you decide to go ahead on it, I, nore anyone here is responsible if something goes wrong.
Good luck and keep us posted.

  • K8N FSR AGP voltage too high w 6800GT?

    Hi guys !
I've been having trouble oc:ing my 6800GT and one guy told me that the problem is related to my AGP voltage. It's too high thus preventing the GT from running normally at higher speeds.
The symptoms of oc:ing are 1-3 sec freezings in 3DMark05/03/01 plus crashes "expolrer.exe & drwtsn32.exe". It's not a heat-related problem because I have a NV Silencer 5 mounted on the core which also covers all mem chips. My temp indicator shows me 45-50C idle 60-65C full-load.
I've heard that the GT requires 1.3V AGP voltage. Unfortunately you cannot lower AGP voltage in BIOS.
    Any suggestions ??

i have almost teh same setup.  when i first got my 6800 i had same issueso/c and i watercool.
it wasnt until i swapped my 430true power to wifes 350 enermax that it was straightened out.  ex has like 32a on 12v line
cpu used to use the 5v line but now almost your whole system rides the 12v line all peripheral cpu and your gt juce sucker.  so those old powersupplies cant keep up with big systems like ours
also with a64 some games you need to turn cool and quiet off during because the way the code is written it doesnt keep cpu at 100% so the cpu keeps throttling down and up.  i just shortcut in my toolbar for the power control from control panel. it works nicely
agp 1.5v.  6800gt core voltage is 1.3 ultra is 1.4.
those numbers are not really related.  your friend may be connecting numbers which are not related.  dont forget 6800 has its whole own mobo essentially with a core and ram and other chips sitting on it. thats what the agp 1.5v goes to.
    hope this helps

  • Is this voltage too high??

Alright..classic 14" Ibook no backlight problem.
Tested the inverter cable - cable good.
Tested voltages going to inverter board: (Should be 0, +5, +12, and 1.5-3.5, from what I've read). Mine test: (0, +5, +16, +3.5ish)
I replaced the inverter board and still no backlight.
Before I replace the CCFL lamp, I just want other people's opinions whether the 16volts is too high, and maybe that's burning out the inverter board or the lamp?
What do you think? Is 16 ok? Should I order a bulb and try that next or would I be wasting my money?
    Thanks in advance.

    OK Rob,
Here's the troubleshooting from the 14.1 1.42 Service Manual:
    "Display
No display, or dim display, but computer appears to operate correctly (if dim,
display shows startup icon and/or desktop)
    1. Remove any connected peripherals.
    2. Try known-good power outlet, power adapter and power cord.
    3. Press F2 (with the fn key pressed and not pressed) to increase the screen brightness setting.
    4. Reboot the computer—hold down the Control and Command keys and press the
Power button, or press and hold the Power button for 5 to 10 seconds to shut down the computer, then press the Power button to restart.
    5. Reset the power manager by pressing the key combination Control-Option-Shiftpower.
Warning: Make sure you do not hold down the "fn" key when resetting the
    power manager.
Warning: Resetting the power manager means you will also need to reset the
date and time (using the Date & Time control panel)."
    6. Reset PRAM (Press the power button, then hold down the Option-Command-P-R
keys until you hear the startup chime at least one additional time after the initial
    startup chime).
    7. Connect an external display, and check for video on external display.
    • If video is fine on external display, troubleshoot LCD panel and verify cable
    connections to inverter and LCD.
    • If video symptom is same on external display, replace logic board."
That would imply a GPU error
"8. Verify backlight cable and LVDS cable connections are seated properly and that the
cables are not damaged (refer to display assembly replacement instructions)."
I flex the cables near the hinge point to do this check. Especially pushing them into compression (to make any broken connections)
    "9. Replace LCD panel.
    10. Verify cable connections and check cables around the hinges for damage.
    11. Replace logic board."
1 black and 1 grey wire which I believe are the airport antenna, and a black wire for the microphone.
    Also from the Manual:
"From the bottom of the bezel brace, note the routing of the black and gray antenna cables."
So those sound like the Bluetooth and Wireless antenna cables.
The LVDS cable is bundled with the mike (black) cable and is fat and gray.

  • 865PE Neo 2 LS core cell voltages too high

    hi all,
I just updated to bios 1.7 and Corecenter 1.58
There are higher voltages for my Vcore (new value 1.5625v , old value 1.52 v)
and Agp card (new value 1.7v, old value 1.6v) that the new bios is using.
Are Vcore 1.5625v and Agp 1.7v too high (ie will damage the cpu and v/c)?
What is the correct voltage of a 2.8c P4c?
    thanks,

    I don't think i'm going back to bios 1.3,
I have set the bios to the lower voltages for agp and cpu
but when i reinstalled core center 1.58 it shoots the voltages back up
I am going to play around with speedfan and cpuz for a while.
    i tlooks like the correct P4 voltage for a 2.8c /533mhz is

  • 785GTM-E45 - auto voltage too high?

I recently bought a 785GTM-45 and Phenom II x2 560BE processor.  When I run CPU-z, the voltage it shows is 1.44.   Is it normal for the voltage to be so high on auto?  I thought the stock voltage was 1.325v.  All voltage settings are on auto.

The normal voltage range should be 0.875-1.40V - http://products.amd.com/en-us/DesktopCPUDetail.aspx?id=715&f1=&f2=&f3=&f4=&f5=&f6=&f7=&f8=&f9=&f10=&f11=&f12=

  • MSI R7950 TF 3GD5/OC BE too high stock voltage

Hi, this is my first post so please be gentle with me
I just bought a MSI R7950 TF 3GD5/OC BE video card which is 960mhz stock speed, but I found out that this card has a too high stock voltage which displays 1.18v in GPUZ and 1.25v in afterburner. I don't think the card can last long with such a high voltage so I want to lower it.
I try to adjust the voltage in afterburner, it seems it changes in the software (the slide did change). But GPUZ still displays the same voltage.
Can anyone help me with this?
    Thanks.

    Thanks for the reply.
I've found the solution for that. I downloaded the version 3.00beta9 of afterburner and now it can change the vcore.
I changed the vcore from 1.25 to 1.05v. Now the card is running at 1050mhz, 57degree with 60% fan speed, cool and quiet. Before was 75 degree and 80% fan speed.
    I'm satisfied now.
Ive got Afterburner 2.31, its allows undervolting as well. But problem is that in boost mode new values are ignored and back to default. So in that case cant see any sense in doing that. Is that changed in ver 3?

  • When I print business cards, they sometimes print 1/4 too high but not always.

I have my business cards in a Word document using an Avery template. I have used the same file for years. I never had a problem with my Canon printer but after buying an HP Photosmart D110 I have had nothing but problems. When I print then they print about 1/4 inch too high ruining the cardstock and wasting ink. This doesn't happen all the time. Sometimes I print and they are perfect but when I go back and print another, the problem returns. This is the same card stock I have used for years and when it is inserted in the printer it doesn't matter if it is a single page or a stack of them. I have tried previewing the page before printing and the alignment is correct. I've tried printing to a PDF and then printing the PDF, same problem. I try it on the Canon and no problem. Only reason I bought this in the first place was the cartridges were cheaper and I do a lot of color printing and scanning!  I have just replaced the cartridges and did a head alignment so that is not the problem. I have tried it with regular paper and the problem persists. I'm ready to drop kick this thing and buy another Canon!
    This question was solved.

Did you ever find a solution for this problem? I have no problem printing the business cards out on a Canon printer, or a different HP printer I used to have, but the D110 is nothing but a pain in the you know what !  I'm using publisher and the avery 8371 card stock,  I searched solutions for days and did everything possible but still they're not printing correctly!! I'm dissapointed in this printer, every time I have a problem with something it always seems to be an HP product!!!  Very frustrating because I never had to mess with any settings in the other printers I had, I would just put the file in, change the quality and click the print button with no problems. I'm ready to throw this printer out the window Anyway thanks in advance and I hope somebody can help me with this issue !!!

  • I have a macbook pro OS 10.5.8. I've sync'ed it with an iPad 2. I would like to access the "cloud" but it seems my Leopard isn't sufficient. How high an OS upgrade would i need to use cloud? Most of my current apps wouldn't work with a too high upgrade.

I have a macbook pro OS leopard 10.5.8. I've synced it with an iPad 2. I cannot access the cloud because my OS is insufficient. Problem is most of my most- used applications would not work with a too-high system upgrade. I can't afford to upgrade all my apps. I need to know: what would be the least-high system upgrade I can install in order to access the cloud on my new iPad 2?
    MAC O.S. 10.5.8 - LEOPARD
    MacBookPro
    MacBookPro4,1
Intel Core 2 Duo - 2.5 GHz; speed 800 MHz
    Quark Express 7.3
    Adobe Acrobat 8 Pro
    Adobe Photoshop CS 3
    Adobe Illustrator CS 3
    Adobe InDesign CS 3
    Microsoft Office 2008
    Extensis Suitcase Fusion 12.1.7
    Stuffit 12
    Thanx
    calico6

Define "access the cloud". I can access my iCloud.com account on my 5 year old iMac at work running OS X 10.4.11 Tiger. I can download and upload Word documents and Pages documents in the iWorks section of my iCloud.com account.
What do you want to access in "the cloud"?
Snow Leopard would be your next system upgrade and you should be OK with the CS3 applications, and Office 2008. I cannot confirm that the other applications will work.
This is quite old, but take a look or Google the other applications to see if they are compatible with SL.

  • IMac Hard Drive expectations, Are mine too high?

    Hey everyone.
I have a 27" iMac i5. Its around 22 months old now and its being used as a personal PC at home.
Lately, I have been experiencing HDD related issues, It hangs, load times are poor, OS takes ages to boot (windows and OSX)
I backed up all my data to external drives and did a clean OS restore to Lion. No help, first boot with the OS was just as bad as a boot full of clutter. Loading Windows on the win partition also sometimes gives me the "cannot find OS boot disk" error which is scary.
Anyway's doing research its all sure tell-tale signs of a failing HDD and ironically last night on my Win7 partition, I got the windows error message saying my "windows detected a hard disk problem, back up all data and contact your manufacture".
Now, back on topic. Is this reasonable? a $2000+ computer suffering from a hardware fault like this when the HDD has never had more than 30% of the 1TB used in its life? (everything I keep backed up on externals.)
I was honestly expecting a few more years out of this, **** even my 5 year old Macbook has never had an issue in its life and its been bagged around more places I can think of in its lifetime. How does a computer that sits on a desk suffer for a hardware failure such as this?
From day one, I had a faulty power board inside, it caused a loud electronic buzzing noise. I did not get this fixed for aroun 9 months as tbh, it sounded normal but in the last month leading upto the replacement, it got much louder over a few days. This was replaced by Apple and I was sent on my way happy it was fixed. could this have caused something to overload?
I am a little bit bitter which I am sure you can understand, but was my expectation of this hard drive just too high? or am I in my right to be a little upset by this?
And before anyone askes, I was OS when my warranty ran out, my Macbook, iPad 3XiPhones and Mac Mini are all covered by their own Apple Care. the only thing that isnt is the iMac.. just my luck!
Edit: the old link for the power board.
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2737002

    Thanks guys.
Just got off the phone to Applecare.
they confirmed my drive is faulty. Im just a little upset it died like this. I have never had a drive fail before. Id rather my externals go than the internal.
Spoke to Apple, they said that he spoke to his Tech Specalist and they would not offer a free replacement. I agree is its 10 months out of warranty, but even the Apple rep I was speaking too said he would not be impressed either if it was his personal computer
Oh well. Time to look at HDD Upgrade options! Not that I am totally impressed about it.

I'm using A.Reader v.9.3.4 in  XP.3 and Officejet J4540 series; I do think you are on to something with  print preview composite showing  Zoom 94% & page set to 8.27 x  11.69" but where to change to 8.5 x 11 inches since the zoom @ 94% does  not jibe with over 11 lgth X less than 8.5 inches which would seem  logical if the 94% issue were the trouble...please expound ~ Jaye ~

I'm not on Windows now, but the Windows dialog box is similar to the Mac Print dialog box.
You can see under Comments there is a Page scaling dialog box. Click on the drop down menu and switch from None to Shrink to Printable Area.

  • My macbook pro cpu temperature is too high??please tell me correct fact and information

i mistake deleting my activity.......re question...
I'm using macbook pro retina 13inch 2013 late version.
my macbook has NO external graphic card, just iris graphic.
when i was playing diablo3 or watching movie by using bypass ip address, my cpu temperature was maintained 90~100 celcius degrees.
And at the same time, my cooling fan was maintained 5800~6000 rpm.
    There are two questions.
One, is my macbook temperature too high or normal level ?
Two, i know that 6200rpm is maximum speed of cooling fan. Why  did fan run 5800~6000rpm, not maximum?

When processor intensive activities are taking place, temperature may reach the maximum level.

  • Warning Message - Tracknumber of CEvLaunch too high! Help?

    Hi there
I am attempting to import a midi file I found online into GarageBand 09 but I get the following pop up
*Beta-only warning message - not to be localized:*
    *Tracknumber of CEvLaunch too high!*
I'm not really too sure what this means? Does it maybe mean the volume is too high? Or there are too many tracks for Garageband to cope with?
When I click OK a few times on the pop up it then pops up
*Launch Event without associated track found!*
    *Changed to track 1.*
I then have only 3 tracks for this song when I know there are many more.
I want to be able to hear and use all of the tracks form this midi file in GarageBand 09.
FYI when I play the midi file with Quicktime 7 it sounds fine, with all the tracks being audible.
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks!

I have a way around this message popping up (but would still like to know why this error appears).
    I downloaded this free program
    *Midi File Editor 2.01*
    Available here
    http://mac.softpedia.com/progDownload/Midi-File-Editor-Download-71782.html
Opened the file, and then saved it as a new name.
Imported it to GarageBand and it worked with no errors (although the instruments are way off)
Its a very old feeling program Midi File Editor 2.01, but hey, it worked!
    Yay!

  • Stereo audio causes "Video Bitrate too High" error

    SOS, Whizzkids.
I try to make a build of a DVD with 1 menu and 3 tracks. , and I get an error message "Video Bitrate Too High." I check the compression setting and they're set to factory default for SD 4by3. (4 and 7 MB).
Get this: I delete one channel of audio from each of the 3 tracks and it compiles perfectly.
I duplicate audio channel 1 by option-dragging to channel 2 for one track, recompile and get the same error.
    I give in. Wassup?
    Any help gratefully received.

Did you convert your audio to AC-3 (Dolby Digital)?
If not, this is the likely cause of your problem. Run your audio through A.Pack (if using DVDSP 3 or earlier) or Compressor 2 (if using DVDSP 4). The "Dolby 2.0" presets in Compressor 2 are the Dolby Digital, but it's recommended to change the following settings and make a new preset.
Set dialog normalization to -31 and the Compression Preset to "None". They default to -27 and "Film Standard", respectively.
