P55-GD85 Smart Error (Bad Status) on Sandfornce SSD at POST

Hi,
I recently bought 2 x 64gb Microcenter G2 SSD which has Sandforce SF-1222 controllers on it.  However, when I plugged it on my SATA Intel ICH10R SATA ports, every time I turn it on, It gives me an error indicating
"AHCI Port0 Device Error"
"AHCI Port1 Device Error"
Press F1 to resume ..
and it also gives a Smart error.  By looking on the errors, one would assume that this is an SSD problem.  So I went back to microcenter and they replaced it with new drives.  After getting the new drives, it gave me the same error again.
I tried connecting the SSD to a different Intel sata port and still gives me an error (of course, changing port0 to whatever port I connect it).  Despite having an error, I can still install an operating system to it, run benchmarks, and tests have good results.  However, I noticed that the system POST went very slow.  Like detection of drives are really really slow. I also tried changing the Intel Sata modes to IDE, AHCI, RAID, nothing.  I actually ran and tested RAID 0 on this system and to my surprise, everything is SOOO LAGGY inside the Intel Matrix Storage ROM setup.  Before, from the system turned off, from the moment I press the power button, POST compeletes in like 3-5 seconds.  After putting these SSDs, POST completes in about 40 seconds.
Now I tried connecting the drives to the Marvell and the Jmicron ports and it did not give me any SMART errors. It boots fast and normal.  RAID in Marvell works fine with these 2 SSDs.  But Marvell is so crappy.  I don't want to use it.  I want the Intel Ports.
Before upgrading to these Microcenter SSDs, I originally had a Kingston 64gb SSDNow and it does not give me any kind of errors or problems.  I also had a pair of Samsung 500GB spinpoint drives running in RAID-0, no issues.
I also tried connecting the Microcenter SSDs, to my Laptop and my other computer (ICH7 Gigabyte board) and never gives me any SMART error.
I read somewhere that this could only be a BIOS issue but my bios is the latest one (1.4)
Could anyone please help me?
THanks!
System specs:
P55-GD85 BIOS version A7585IMS version 1.4
Core i7-870 running at stock
8gb DDR3 G.Skill Ripjaws 1600 (XMP enabled)
Corsair PSU 650Watts (single 12v rail)
EVGA GTX 460 768mb
Sata DVDRom drive
2 x 500GB Samsung SpinPoint HDDs
1 x 64gb Kingston SSDNow (Jmicron Controllers)
2 x 64gb Mircocenter SSDs
2 x HP 2009m Monitors
Logitech MK300 Wireless KB + Mouse
Windows 7 / Linux Mint both 64-bit

I can't find anywhere in the BIOS (which I also find weird).
Anyway, I went ahead to Microcenter again and bought an Agility 2 60GB ssd which has Sandforce too.  It's not giving me any errors.  So I guess it is caused by just the Microcenter SSDs but I wonder why.

  • KDE Printer Manager fails with "client-error-bad-request"

I'm having some trouble with printing on my system. The KDE printer manager shows "client-error-bad-request" and no other information. When I run the KCM from the command line, I also get "kcmshell(17286) KCupsRequest::serverError: status unrecognised:  1024" on the console. I wasn't able to find any useful information on this issue on google or these forums; not even what the 1024 status code means. It seems to me that this may be a bug in the kcm_printer_manager module, but I'd like to rule out other possibilities first. Unfortunately, I don't know what to try from here. I'll provide as much potentially relevant information as I can think of below.
Changes since last successful print job:
    Multiple updates to KDE packages
Update to cups that changed systemd unit file names.
    Stopped and disbled old units
    daemon-reload
    Enable and start new units
Other updates to cups since then, if I recall correctly.
    Packages and versions:
    kdeutils-print-manager 4.14.3-1 (owns kcm_printer_manager module for kcmshell4)
    kdebase-runtime 4.14.3-1 (owns kcmshell4 binary)
    cups 2.0.1-1
    libcups 2.0.1-1
    systemd 218-1
    linux 3.17.6-1
Let me know if any other information might be helpful.

    Anyone please help.

  • Can't Enable XMP after BIOS flash to V1.4 on P55-GD85

I didn't put this in the BIOS section because while the BIOS is involved,  I don't think it's necessarily a BIOS issue.  However, if it should go there please move it.
While not new to computers by any stretch I committed the cardinal sin of updating my BIOS when I didn't absolutely have to.  While their were some issues I'd hoped would be fixed with a new BIOS revision, they weren't critical.
I have a i7 860 Lynnfield system running Win 7 Home Premium 64 with a MSI P55-GD85 mobo which has been running fine since being built in March of this year.  This was the first BIOS flash since I've built the system.  The system came with either V1.0 or V1.1 (I think it was V1.1).  I checked using Live Update (yes, I now know this is bad) and found there had been several udpates since my current version.  I went ahead and used Live Update to flash the BIOS (yes, I know...not a good idea).   Contrary to the horror stories the flash itself went fine.  I watched it flash the BIOS and everything verified fine.  Of course  after the update I had to reset my BIOS settings to get the system to run which went fine.  The problem is that the one thing I can't do is enable the XMP option for the memory without the system crashing.  If I enable this option the system will POST and then do a memory dump before ever getting to the desktop.  Without turning this option on I can't take full advantage of my RAM.  I am running G.SKILL Trident 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 2000 (PC3 16000) which are XMP compliant and ran without issue up until the BIOS update.  It is possible that there is some other setting that I didn't reset after the BIOS change to allow this to work that I am missing.  I know I did a bunch of tweaking and changing of settings trying to get things to run correctly when I first built the system.  I've gone over and over the BIOS and can't find anything else to try to get me to allow to enable the XMP option without crashing.  By simply enabling that option my system would normally run stable at about 3.6-3.7GHz.
Does anyone have any ideas as to why this might be happening or what I can do about it?  About the only other thing I can think of is to reflash the BIOS back to a previous version to see if that helps.  I am sure there is something I am missing as there is no reason the BIOS shouldn't allow the XMP feature to be enabled without crashing.  Any help would be most appreciated.  Thanks.

Have you try to increase your RAM voltage to 1.55v ~1.6v?

When I try to install ios lion the installer says my hard drive has SMART errors and that I need to buy a new Hard Drive, but my computer witch has snowleprd and runs just fine.

SMART is a technology that monitors the drive for signs of impending failure. You can verify that SMART is indicating a problem in Disk Utility. Select the hard drive and look at the bottom of the window. It should look like this:
If the SMART status is not "Verified" then you should back up your drive and start shopping for a new one.

  • Unconfigured, Bad Status "A", Bad Status "B"

    Greeting All.
I recently upgraded to LabVIEW 8.5.1, including LabVIEW-RT.

Anyhow, to make a long story short, my program started to malfunction.
[After lots of pain and suffering,] I learned that the call fo FP Read produces the error:
Unconfigured, Bad Status "A", Bad Status "B"
The error is frequent, and I cannot help to think that it is considerably diminishing the performance of all other tasks.
    Any Ideas?

    Certainly.
Attached, you'll find a VI that resembles my worker-VI - which I use in my project.

  • P55-GD85 CMOS Pin #s and CPU Phase LEDs

    Howdy, folks.
Looking for some information that isn't in the manual.
I have a brand new P55-GD85 that won't POST.  Could be a lot of reasons, but I wanted to check that the CMOS jumper on JBAT1 was properly across pins 1/2.  The problem:  The manual doesn't orient the jumper on the board, and the board doesn't label the pins.  Does anyone know whether pin 1 is closest to the battery or furthest from it?
The jumper came from the factory sitting on the pin closest to the battery (plus the middle pin).  I assumed that the jumper was properly set at the factory, so I powered down the board and moved the jumper to the other pair for 30 seconds or so, and then re-seated the jumper where it started.  Before I did this, powering up the board turned on all of the blue LEDs on the CPU Phase panel, plus LED #1 on the CPU_VTT Phase panel.  Now, none of the LEDs lights at all (except CPU_VTT #2 blinks once if I use the reset button on the board).  The problem:  the manual does explain which LEDs are supposed to light up on boot, normally.  Does anyone know?  Was all of the LEDs lit a good thing or a bad thing?  Now that none light up, is that good or bad?  Is there any documentation for this?
The board came with a plastic cover across one of the two, 12 volt 4-pin ATX JPWR2 CPU power plugs (the one closest to the center of the board).  Nothing in the manual explains why or whether to use one, two or none of the JPWR2 plugs.   Anyone know why one had a plastic cover?  I plugged in both halves of the plug, anyway.
Here are the specs on the machine.  No overclocking, no tinkering, nothing changed on the board, and no peripherals.  I haven't even hooked up the USB headers.  Just the front panel power, which I unhooked once I had these problems.
    * P55-GF85 w/ i570-LGA1156 (on the supported CPU list)
    * 2x2GB G-Skill F3-12800CL9D-8GBRL (correctly seated in DIMMs #1 and #3 -- testing with 1 stick at a time = no change.   This memory suggested by NewEgg and reported to work with this board)
    * Rocketfish 500W RF-500WPS2, which is not a great PSU long term, but at the moment the board isn't running a single HD or peripheral except some fans.  The PSU has 2 12v * 18A rails, and 18A on each of the +5 and +3.3.  The manual says "at least 18W" so this may be a problem.
    * An old GeForce 6500 card, which may not work, although it gets power.
Thanks, in advance, for any insight.

Google for pictures of the board (large/high-resolutioin images) to compare jumper positions.
The "keep data" position is usually just a parking position that does not much else electrically.  So, taking the jumper off the pin header altogether would also make sure that it is not wrongly placed.
Remove the board from the case and test it on an non-conducting surface in barebone configuration (just CPU, one stick of RAM, video card & power connectors [24-pin ATX, 12V CPU power, PCI-Express power connector]). Reseat CPU and heatsink as well and check for broken or bent CPU socket pins while you do that.

  • What is up with the Marvell 9123 Raid Controller? P55-GD85

    Hi all,
I recently bought an MSI P55-GD85 - I updated the bios to the latest 1.3.  Everything is good and I love it.
The problem came when I bought an SSD.  First of all, I NEVER wanted to use the Marvell Sata ports (white one, Port 7 and 8) because I don't have any SATA III drives but right now It seems that I don't have a choice because of the SSD.
Originally, I ran Raid 0 on my 2 x Samsung F3 Spinpoint 500GB which is plugged on the P55 sata ports (ports 5 and 6).  Of course that means that the P55 sata controller is running in Raid Mode.
Now the SSD came to play and wanted to use it as boot drive. I plugged it into SATA 0 (P55).  I decided to run some benchmarks and tests BEFORE installing Windows 7 on it (still keeping my Raid 0 Samsungs).  I ran some tests and it was amazing.  ATTO and HD Tune pro hits the spec speeds of the SSD.  For the sake of it I also ran test on the Samsung that I have.  In raid 0, I hit 280mbps reads speeds/13.5ms seek which is very very good.
    Now the problem:
Even though I have a Single SSD drive, TRIM does NOT work because it is connected to the same P55 SATA ports where my Samsung Raid is connected - which is of course, in Raid mode.  As far as I know TRIM will only work in AHCI mode for the P55 ICH10R chip.
I don't want to give up my Raid setup so I though maybe I should connect it to the Marvell Raid.  I had to reformat and rebuild the RAID volume in Marvell and reinstall Windows 7.  This time I also installed Windows 7 on my SSD so I can benchmark my Raid 0 (marvell controller).  To my shock these are the results:
    Using HD Tune Pro:
    P55 Raid - 2 x 500gb samsung F3s
    Max Read - 280mbps
    Min Read - 220mbps
    Average - Around 240mbps
    seek - 13.5
    Marvell Raid 0 - 2 x 500gb samsung f3s
    Max Read - 160mbps
    Min Read - 113mbps
    Average - Around 130mbps
    seek - 15.6ms
I made sure that all drivers are updated (unless I need to flash the BIOS for the Marvell chip - is that possible)?  I'm in the office right now as I can't remember the exact version of the marvell, I think it is 1.0.0.1013 (I'll edit as soon as I go home).
As you can see, the performance is like half!  Which is unacceptable.
Then, just for tests, I tried to plug in my Single SSD to the Marvell white Port (port 7) and ran some benchmarks.
    Here are the results:
    P55 ports Single - Kingston 64gb SSDNow V series
    Max reads: 180mbps
    Min reads: 130mbps
    Ave reads: 140ish
    Seek: .2ms
    - it did not hit the 210mbps theoretical speed that it pretty decent IMO
Marvell Sata ports - Single Kingston 64gb SSDNow V series
    Max reads: 130mbps
    Min reads: 110mbps
    Ave reads: 120ish mbps
    seek: .3
I also noticed real world performance (like boot times and application snappiness) differences between Marvell and the ICH p55 controllers.  The Marvell does not perform well compared to the intel one.
BTW, I also tried the Jmicron 36x Sata port 9 and it is so much worse.
Is the Marvell Controller really that slower compared to the Intel Controllers?
Could any one please help me to improve my RAID and/or AHCI mode of my Marvel; controller?  Also, does TRIM work with Marvell Controllers in AHCI mode?
    Thank you!

The Marvell Controller Firmware Updates will come as part of the system BIOS Update.  I am not sure if this has to do with the Controller Firmware or the driver version used.  But in any case, I suggest you contact MSI Technical Support and report your findings so they can check it:
    http://support.msi.com/
    Thank you for your reply.
I hope it is nothing serious. I have to make screenshots and make a better documentation of my findings before I send it to them.
How about the others that use Marvell 9123 in SATA II or SATA II RAID-0?  Am I just alone?

  • A message will pop up (Exc in ev handl: Error: Bad NPObject as private data!) and the tab I was on will close out and reopen in a new window. Why is it happening and how do I stop it?

Okay, I will have a window open with 4 tabs open. At first, everything is fine, but after a day or so, a message will pop up on screen saying "'''Exc in ev handl: Error: Bad NPObject as private data!'''" and after you close it out, the tab you were on will close and reopen in it's own window. I then have to shut down all both old and new windows and open a new window with my original 4 tabs again. It will work fine until a few days pass and it starts over again.

Just got a new MSI GD85 with hopes to SLI, but having trouble trying to setup 2x Nvidia 9800 GT cards.  Both are xfx similar style, one is xxx (core clocked 675 vs the other stock clock at 600 mhz).  Nvidia's forums note the different clocks shouldn't be an issue, since their current drivers support asynchronous clocks, have tried reversing the order of the cards (slower card up top, vice versa) same issues:
The cards are recognized and seem to start up ok, recognized as SLI and enable..and seem to functional ok, but all applications and games run 5-10% slower.
Take out the second card and I'm back at normal speeds.  Tried both cards alone, both function extremely similar.

I think its working now - not sure if it was the different nvidia driver or not because I also did the chipset drivers from intel and rebooted same time.  At any rate, with a single card i am getting 21809 3DMarks (05) and 26998 in SLI.  A definte improvement, but not really the numbers I was looking for.
All things considered I decided to order a MSI gtx285 today off newegg http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductReview.aspx?Item=N82E16814127428 rather then purchase a 2nd GT9800.
If you look at the design of the MSI PCIe card, you kinda forget about the perfomance advantages, the card is just too damn dreamy to the eye.

3dmarks05 is a older one and resolution isn't higher, the SLI won't be feel much there.
However the score difference with/without SLI [21809 3DMarks (05) and 26998 in SLI], shows that SLI is working properly.

Did you try disabling every option in the "Wake Up Event Setup"?
I just checked the Changelog for the latest BETA Releases for your board.  The latest BETA Version is A7585IMS.132 [v1.3b2] and among other things it includes the following fixes that seem to address the problem you are experiencing:

    - Fixed WOL still work after disable LAN controller.
    - Fix after use LAN (on PCIE slot) wakup S1,system can't shut down from OS issue.
For you, this means good news:  Your problem is already known and was, at it looks, already fixed.  All you have to do right now is to contact MSI Technical Support and ask them to provide you with that BIOS Release.

  • HP Pavilion dv7-4269wm SMART Error and Recovery

My hard drive recently crashed after receving SMART errors for over 6 months. I am planning on ordering a new hard drive to replace it. Thankfully I was able to backup my computer about 2 weeks ago so I dont think I lost anything important. My question is regarding the recovery discs from HP. Although I am from the US, I am in the Netherlands Antilles at the moment and am having a hard time contacting an HP office to mail me the recovery discs. If I install a new hard drive and install Windows on my computer, is it necessary to have the recovery discs to make sure all the drivers, etc. are working or will my computer still work properly without them?

How are you planning to reinstall operating system?
To confirm the fail, do the hard drive - quick & extensive test from BIOS - System Diagnostics by pressing ESC key or F10 as soon as you power on the laptop.
If that fail & generate 24-character failure ID, is a hardware failure & replacement if the option left.
You can use Recovery media only if you buy & install a new HDD of capacity 750gb or higher.
For clean installation, that's not an issue.
You can download & save all the latest version of the drivers (check the date & version number) setup/.exe files in to USB. Insert USB & DVD simultaneously and there'll be option for loading driver during process of installation, just select the USB from there & it'll automatically install the storage drivers from it.
Later on after Windows installation, additional drivers could be installed from USB manually with a restart of notebook after each installation.
