P55-GD85: USB3.0 not working (device cannot start)

I'm running Windows 7 x86 and I've installed all the new drivers from the MSI homepage. Unfortunately, the USB 3.0 Host Controller is not working.
There is a device "Renesas Electronics USB 3.0 Host Controller" but I do have the error message "This device cannot start. (Code 10)".
I also tried to install the driver delivered with the motherboard with the same result.
Any suggestions? Could it be a hardware problem?

What if you manually uninstall the device from Windows Device Manager then let Device Manager rescan and reinstall?
Try to check the disk file system for errors.  MY COMPUTER > RIGHT CLICK on C Drive and select PROPERTIES.  TOOLS then select CHECK NOW.  Tick the top box.
Also try to cleanup with CCleaner and run Malwarebytes.  I've fixed quite a few systems with CODE 10 issues using the above.
You can try the USB controller firmware update and latest driver available here:

  • IPod 160gig not recognized... This device cannot start. (Code 10)

    Hey all,
I have the new iPod 160gig, and it was working fine till i upgraded my pc. I had vista before and it worked but now its not.
My iPod charges through my computer but does not show up in iTune or in MyComputer or even in the tool bar section at the bottom righthand corner near the clock. Yet my iPod itself says it is connected.
In the device manager there is a yellow triangle over the mass storage device. and when i go into it it says "This device cannot start. (Code 10)". I also tried looking for updates but it says it has the latest driver. I have uninstalled it and then looked for updates, yet stll nothing. I even reset my computer.
I have tried it in all the other usb ports, and I have tried the 5R's, yet still nothing. It works perfect on other PC's. My iPod has all my backed up work and files on it. So formatting is not really an option, although I dont believe there is anything wrong witht the iPod itself.
    Please help

Ok well, i fixed my problem, Which seemed almost impossible was actually quite easy but tricky. While i was reading threw these forums for posts related to my problem. I read a post that there was supposed to be a file named usbaapl.inf to help out with the problem i had, well i tried to find the file but i didn't have it. The post i read said if its not found, i didn't install Itunes right, So what i did, I Uninstalled everything that was related to Apple so i can start a fresh clean install of itunes. I restarted twice so i can make sure itunes would install completely, after i downloaded itunes, once downloaded i installed it, took about 5-10 minutes. when i connected my ipod touch nothing happened, then i kept connecting it and disconnecting it about 2 times, after i restarted it once more. Then opened itunes and connected my ipod touch again and same result, Then i realized that earlier today i disabled my ipod touch threw Device Manager. While my ipod was connected and itunes opened, i un-disabled my ipod and it WORKED!!!! Anyway that was the trick, i just had to Disable my Ipod Touch first then reinstall itunes. I just wrote this just in case someone had a similar problem, Cause i tried everything before and i mean EVERYTHING. mods you can close this.

  • Pavilion dv9700 DVD/CD ROM stopped working: Code 10 (This device cannot start.)

I have a HP Pavilion dv9700 running Windows 7 where the DV)D/CD ROM drive fails to be detected. I can still get it to open and close. The device manager gives an error: Code 10 (This device cannot start). I read somewhere that iTunes upgrades can cause DVD problems in HPs, and I did upgrade iTunes a couple of days ago. I did upgrade the BIOS a few moments ago, but it didn't help. Thank you in advance for any help you can provide.

Thank you for the responses! Sorry it took me so long to implement--I wanted to back everything up first before messing with the registry. Following the instructions to delete lines in the registry AND uninstalling iTunes allowed for the DVD/CD ROM to pop up with an exclamation mark in my Device Manager. Updating the driver did not help as the computer said the driver was up-to-date. Mysteriously, when I rebooted, the DVD/CD ROM disappeared from the device manager again. I forgot to mention in the initial post that the DVD/CD ROM light blinks steadily at about two blinks/second. Any other ideas? I am wondering if this is a hardware failure now.

Create a new AppleID on a different iOS device or on a computer. You will
then be able to use that newly created AppleID on your iPhone.

  • "Device Cannot Start - Code 10" - Windows Vista Error, w/ 2nd Gen. Nano

I'm having trouble with my Nano and Windows Vista. The computer is recognizing the iPod just fine and seeing all of my songs, but nothing will play and the diamond bar does not move. I can't hear previews online either.
Under device manager, a yellow "!" shows up for the iPod, and it says "Device Cannot Start - Code 10" when I check. All of my drivers and updates are current as of today. So is iTunes. Any thoughts?
It worked before, but now it's not.

This is a reasonably common error on a PC when there is a problem with either a USB device, your USB cables or hardware, or the system drivers.
In a case where, as you say, the device works properly with other computers, the problem is more likely to be with the hardware or drivers on the computer you're trying to connect to.
See this site for some hints:
    http://www.pchell.com/hardware/usbcode10.shtml
I found it via a web search; I don't have any connection to that site.
The good news is that your iPhone is probably fine.

  • "This device cannot start. (Code 10)" 6th gen nano ?

    Hello!
I recently purchased a used ipod nano 6th gen.  It was working great by itself but it won't connect to my laptop.  Here's the short story:
Ipod worked fine out of the box.  Is not recognized by Windows7.  Installed and reinstalled the driver, no effect.  iPod does not charge from the laptop of from the power outlet.  I have itunes version 11.2.2.3 but the ipod has not been able to connect or be recognized by itunes yet.
Here's the Long story w/ the details:
    1.  Before I connected it to anything with the cable, I was able to use all of the features and played the radio it worked fine.
    2.  It began to give the low battery warning.
    3.  I plugged it into my laptop with the usb cable for the first time.
    4.  Windows (7) gave the error window pop-up:  "USB Device not Recognized."
    5.  If I click on that error pop-up window the next window says "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)"
    6.  If I open Device Manager, it shows one of the USB ports name is "Unknown Device".  If I leave the nano plugged into the USB, the device manger window appears to update every 10s or so and alternates between displaying the port name "Unknown Device"and not displaying the port named "Unknown Device".
    7.  If I click on device properties of the "Unknown Device" USB port from the Device manager screen, I see that the error also alternates between "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)" and "Currently, this hardware device is not connected to the computer. (Code 45)"
    8.  When attached to the USB port the nano screen alternates between 3 displays, 1 - "low battery", 2 - the apple logo, 3 - the home menu, which is operational.  The battery meter symbol shows 0 power and does not indicate charging.
    9.  If I unplug the nano it does not turn on with the sleep/wake button, I think due to depleting the battery.
    10.  If I plug the nano into the wall charger, the screen alternates between the home menu which is operational and the apple logo.  The battery symbol shows 0 power and does not indicate charging.
    11.  I followed some troubleshooting steps, on the "Device Properties" window I see the following information:
    Driver Provider: Microsoft; Driver Date: 6/21/2006;  Driver Version: 6.1.7601.18328;
    12.  If I select "Driver Details" button, a window appears that says"No Driver files are required or have been loaded for this device"
    13.  I found trouble shooting steps on the apple website to install the driver, which I followed.  I navigated to the folder with the driver as recommended from the apple website and selected it. C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers  "usbaapl", then selected "Apple iPod USB Driver" from the list to install.
    14.  I get the error window titled "Update Driver Warning" which explains installing the driver is not recommended as Windows cannot verify it is compatible with my hardware, but I proceed with "yes".
    15.  Next window titled "Update Driver Software - Apple Modbile Device USB Driver" shows the error "Windows encountered a problem installing the driver software for your device; Windows found driver software for your device but encountered an error while attempting to install it; Apple iPod USB Driver; This device cannot start. (Code 10)" and it suggests to download a new driver.
    16.  Next, I uninstalled the driver and followed all of those steps and it indicated success, also chose delete driver software option.
    17.  If I plug in the nano at this point I get the indication windows is trying to install driver software, and then the same error occurs as when I first plugged it in "USB Device not Recognized." and I can go through all of the steps again.
    18.  The Driver details button gives the following info:
Provider:  Apple, Inc.; File Version: 1,64,0,0; file names usbaapl.sys & usbaaplrc.dll; driver version 6.0.9999.65.
    19.  Now the device manager window alternates between showing and not showing the USB port named "Apple Mobile Device USB Driver".
    20.  If I look under Devices and Printers, it shows a generic icon with the title "Apple Mobile Device USB Driver" with a yellow exclamation mark and the status shows "Needs troubleshooting"!
Can anyone help me I will give you any detail and info you want!
    thanks!
    steve

  • IPad2 on Windows 7 : MTP USB Device = This device cannot start. (Code 10)

    Hi Guys,
I want to access to the Internal Storage of my iPad 2 on Windows 7.
But I have an error with the MTP USB Device => This device cannot start. (Code 10)
So I cannot see my iPad in Windows Explorer.
I tried many actions from Forums :
update the driver to the "Apple Mobile Device USB Driver" located in "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers"
delete the upper and lower filters in REGEDIT : {36FC9E60-C465-11CF-8056-444553540000}.
stop and restart the service "Apple Mobile Device"
But as soon as I connect again the iPad there is the same error message after Installing device driver software => "Device driver software was not successfully installed" : MTP USB Device : Fail
Is there someone who get the solution ?
    Thank you for you help
    Stephane

I have a similar problem, only mine is Code 31 for the MTP USB Driver.  The Apple driver loads fine, and I'm able to sync with iTunes, but I can't connect to the device as a drive and copy the photos off of it.
I've tried nearly everything at this point that has been suggested in other threads, and nothing has seemed to work.

  • X61 - SD Card Reader - (Code 10 - the device cannot start)

    Hi.
One of our users in RTX Telecom Denmark have a problem with his X61.
Everytime he insert a SD card to the reader it comes with this error message:
Code 10 - the device cannot start.
We have tried all the Windows hotfixes, reinstalling the drivers from:

restarting the machine, but nothing helps.

I have now tried with the preload without any luck. Or that is not completly true, I could put a 1 gB Kingston card in the computer and it would pop up. But it also freezed the computer from time to time.
If I took the card again after a freeze, the computer went back to normal.
But out of 6 SD cards, that was the only one I managed to get working.
I tried all kind of sizes:
    64 mb (no luck)
    512 mb (no luck)
1 gb (kinda worked - sometimes freeze)
    2 gb (no luck)
    4 gb (no luck)
    8 gb  (no luck)
So now I have called Lenovo support and they will come and fix it for me.

  • R61: Intel 82566MC Gigabit Network Device Cannot Start (Code 10)

    Hi
I purchased a Western Digital 7200 rpm 320 GB hard drive (the WD3200BJKT) a few days ago to be installed in my ThinkPad R61 (model 773215A). After making a fresh install of Windows XP SP3 and all the drivers, everything seemed to work fine except for my ethernet device, which is an Intel 82566MC Gigabit Network Connection. I obtained the following error code: "This device cannot start. (Code 10)". The ethernet device only functioned once, which was right after I installed its driver after the fresh install of Windows XP. However as soon as I rebooted, I received the above mentioned error code. By the way, the device was working fine before I changed my hard drive.
I have tried everything described in troubleshooting guides available online, including disabling and enabling the ethernet device, uninstalling and reinstalling the ethernet device and updating the drivers, but to no avail. The only way I could make it function again is by switching off my notebook, unplugging and replugging the power adapter and finally switching the notebook on again. If I were to do a restart, or switch my notebook off and on without unplugging the power adapter, the ethernet device would not function.
I have a feeling that it might be the bios. I am currently using the latest bios (version 2.26), and I noticed that this bios was 'supposed' to fix "The "New Hardware Found" message for Intel Gigabit Ethernet may appear." Looks like some problems with the Intel Gigabit Ethernet still exist. However I have tried flashing several older versions of the bios, but the problem still persists. Appreciate any help/suggestions I could get. Thanks.

    Hello
I bought my R61 beginning of 2008, and since then I had this problem - only with the LAN device, NOT with WLAN - 3 times. It did never have something to do with reinstalling Windows or installing a new device like a HD, it just happend, usually after configuering new network properties (with the tool Access Connections).
The first time when I experienced this, I tried to reinstall the NIC driver, but that didn't help.
Every time, after 2 or 3 days, the problem simply disapeard.
I have on the same laptop, on a second HD partition, a Debian Linux installed. This time, my NIC started its "time-out" after configuering new network properties on Linux, and it does not work anymore on neither Linux nor Windows (2 days so far).
It's really annoying, and because it seems the OS has no influence, I think it is Lenovo's job to fix this problem.
I belive it's - like mhafiz says - a BIOS problem, or some hardware issue, so please: Lenovo, it's your turn!
I always bought Thinkpad Laptops until now, and I think they are in quality high above any other brand, and I really hope this will continue.
    Chris
PS: I hope your (and also mine, like it did before) NICs will just resume operating after a while...

I bought the titanium hd in october andf have been hapily using it until last week.
I was playing a game and it crashed to desktop?and there was a pop up error about driver didnt install successfully, the driver was already installed when i installed the card the first day.
Then i noticed i had no sound so i cleared the drivers and reinstalled from disk, but still had no sound, i went to device manager and it had excalmation and error.
?This device cannot start. (code 10)
At this point i cleared drivers and tried different pcie slots but still the same, as a last resort i tried a complete fresh install of windows 7, installed card got same windows error about install, i then installed the drivers from disk and it still is unfixed no sound and, This device cannot start. Ok update last night instead of clear cmos i removed bios battery to see if that could help, it didnt, so i then installed vista 64 just to check it, and i get same error.
So back on win7 i installed drivers as before and it lets me from disk but when it comes to driver update it says no craeti've products detected or something very simlar. i get same erro if i try and install the beta driver.
Squall thanks for the suggestion but that also didnt help, i do remember though i had been benhmarking the afternoon it died?and had increased my ioh voltage to .25v which isnt much.
I thought at first id damaged one of my pcie slots but i checked my gpus in all 7 pcie slots and they work fine.
Looking at the net i see that there are lots of other people running into this error and not just with sound card but usb devices and such, so it gives me hope that the cards not bad.
Any more suuggestions would be good,
Other things i've tried is remove the device from device manager and retry, along with uninstall device.

  • Intel 9965 Device cannot start (Code 10) fix

I just wanted to report my experience upgrading from Vista Basic to XP Pro on my new T61.
The laptop came with Vista, I upgraded to XP Professional Service Pack 3.  Everything worked with the Lenovo downloadable drivers except the sound card, which would not install the correct drivers, and the Intel 4965 Wifi card, which would accept the drivers but would always give me a "Device cannot start (Code 10)" error and the wifi light wouldn't go off and on with the wireless switch on the front of the laptop.
The sound card would not install the correct drivers because the 888111 SP2 patch would not patch SP3, even though this particular UAA driver problem has not been fixed in SP3.  I got around this by downloading kb888111.exe, opening the file (the .exe) with WinRAR, and extracting all the files to a temporary directory.  Running the file directly won't work.  From here you can either do a direct .inf driver install, or point the device manager to the temp dir while doing a device manager driver update.
The Wifi problem was much more elusive, but ended up being easier to fix.  A simple BIOS update was all it needed.
I used the update found at http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-67988
I am also using the latest driver from Intel instead of Lenovo's, which is a tad old.  Either will work - I don't think this was a driver problem at all.

Great news, I did more research on the standard PCI slot and decided to dig deeper into the bios. I found a setting for the PCI frequency setting. It was set to auto so I switched it to manual and selected the lower of the 2 options thinking since this card was designed a decade ago it might not register properly at the higher frequency (I think the 2 options were 37Mhz and 41Mhz, don't quote me on the numbers). On reboot much to my surprise I saw device installed sucesssfully.
    Outstanding troubleshooting work!

  • WinUsb "Device cannot start. (Code 10)"

    Heya,
Well, usually i end up solving my bugs alone after a few hours working on it but it seems i cant get away with this one.
Im trying to install winusb as a driver for an USB device i made, but right after the installation i get a message saying "This device cannot start. (Code 10)". When i check the device properties though (through device manager), WinUsb.sys is defined
    as the device driver.
Beside, when i check the device with USB Device Viewer, i get this :

    Hello Doron,
    thanks for your answer.
did you change the hardware id in the inf to match your device?
d -- This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights.
Yes i did, its a temporary ID, just for testing.
also, how did you install the inf? If with devcon, make sure to use the update option, not install
d -- This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights.
Yea, I installed it via the update option.
Finally found out what was wrong. The bug was in the firmware program. I moved out to an other library, it works now !

?The drivers are up to date as is the firmware. I have run through the troubleshooting pages and the forum. I am using Vista 32-bit with 2 g memory. The Windows Media Player is v , which is required by the book/ library software, Overdri've Media.

GRe: Zen 8G This device cannot start code 0 and firmware update problem?Hello Tbg99,
    Welcome to Creative forums!
Try booting the player in the recovery mode.
. While the ZEN is off, press and hold down the play/pause button.
    2. While holding down the play/push button, push the reset button slowly using a paper clip/pin. You should feel the "click" sound when press it.
    3. Slide the On/Off switch towards the power button and hold it down until the recovery boot screen appears.
Choose Clean Up then Reboot. If problem still persists, you may need to format the ZEN but take note that formatting will delete the contents of the device. To format the ZEN, boot the ZEN in the recovery mode again and choose Format this time.

  • Device cannot start (Code 10)

Hello all! I went out and bought an iPhone last Wednesday and have had no problems syncing it to a Mac or my parents Toshiba laptop; however, when I plugged it into my desktop, it does not show up in iTunes. I went to check the device manager only to have it reveal an error (yellow circle and exclamation mark) next to Apple Mobile Device USB Driver. When I right clicked and looked at the error, it simply says "This device cannot start. (Code 10) Click Troubleshoot to start the troubleshooter for this device.
I have tried to uninstall the driver and reinstall with no luck. I have also tried every USB port on my desktop computer (not a USB hub) and have had no success. I tried many different combinations of rebooting the iPhone, the computer, the iPhone then computer, and vice-versa and got no where. I have also tried updating Windows and the latest drivers for my motherboard. Nothing works; it just doesn't like to sync with this desktop's USB ports.
    Here is my current setup:
    Windows XP Pro SP2
Gigabyte K8N (ALi M1689 chipset, ALi M1563 southbridge)
    AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+
In my device manager, there is a ULi PCI-to-USB Enhanced Host Controller and ALi PCI-to-USB Open Host Controller.
My question now is if there are any problems with the iPhone and ULi/ALi USB controllers?

This is a reasonably common error on a PC when there is a problem with either a USB device, your USB cables or hardware, or the system drivers.
In a case where, as you say, the device works properly with other computers, the problem is more likely to be with the hardware or drivers on the computer you're trying to connect to.
See this site for some hints:

I found it via a web search; I don't have any connection to that site.
The good news is that your iPhone is probably fine.
