P6310f
So this is more of a warning than a question. For the p6310f system the approved CPU upgrade specs are:
This motherboard supports only AM3 processors
Memory support is limited to DDR3 modules only.
HyperTransport 3.0
Split power planes allow separate power management for CPU and integrated memory controller for improved power savings.
Supports the following processors:
AMD Phenom II X4 9xx/9xxe/8xx Quad-Core (Deneb)
AMD Phenom II X3 7xx/7xxe Triple-Core (Heka)
AMD Phenom II X2 5xx (Callisto)
AMD Athlon II X4 6xx/6xxe (Propus)
AMD Athlon II X3 4xx/4xxe (Rana)
AMD Athlon II X2 2xx/2xxe (Regor)
This is incorrect. No where does the information state that you have to keep the same wattage. I bought the Phenom II X4 955 Deneb believing that it would work. It did not. The TDP on the model I bought was 125 watts. This motherboard can only deal with 95 watts. Again, there is no information given to let you know this ahead of time. I feel this is misleading to say the least and now I have a processor that I cannot return for a refund. Beware.
Thank you for posting that. I am sure you will save someone else from making the same mistake.

HP P6310f Hangs at Startup, Won't Recognize
Yesterday my HP p6310f running Windows 7 froze up. I had no choice but to power it off. When I powered it back on, it hung at the Start Up screen and none of the F keys would work to get into set up, boot menu, diags, etc.
I opened the case and moved the jumper to reset the CMOS. This time when I booted it up, it came up to a repair screen. I tried to run repair, which it said would take over an hour. I left it running all night and this morning it had not finished and I powered it off again. Now when it boots up it doesn't recongize any hard drive, any CD drive, nothing. Sometimes it will let me in setup, sometime not, but when it does it does not recognize hard drive or CD drive so I can't use my restore discks. I've reseated all the cables to no avail. I'm suspecting a bad motherboard (Pegatron M2N78-LA), but before I shell out some big bucks to replace the motherboard was wondering if there are other troubleshooting tips I can try? At least I want to make sure it is the motherbord before ordering. Thanks for any help.suiramix wrote:
Today, I had the same symptoms with HP P6310F desktop (14 months old), it will not pass HP splash screen ...tried reset CMOS, removed RAM, changed SATA cables and power supply ..Nothing except removing SATA cables from hard drive and DVD drive , the computer will boot normally and press F10 goes to BIOS setup. Connected external DVD drive using USB and boot up Linux Live CD without any problem !!!
At this point I suspect a faulty SATA Controller (MCP 78S GeForce 8200 -AHCI rev.a2).
I will try to upgrade the BIOS from 5.14 to 5.16 !!
Any suggestions ???
I have 2 Hp P6310f right now!! Both seem to have similar problems with start up!!
Unable to find Hard Drive or Boots fine then Freezes!!
I ran the diagnostic's tools (F9) an all pass!! Only after letting the system cool down though!
After a little more troubleshooting!!! I have found that the south bridge gets extremely hot!!
If I then run the diagnostic's tools (F9) i get an error (Unable to find boot device)!!
If I let systems cool for awhile and then reboot They fire right up But then freeze up again when the chip gets hot.
I removed the heatsync an cleaned a reapplied some Artic Silver Didn't seem to help at all!!
The heat syncs are still extremely hot!!
So i don't know if this is the same problem others are having But this is what i have found so far!
Seems to be a problem with the Motherboard!!! -

Aquestion: can i connect a tape recorder to computer and put the digitial info on my computer
I have HP Pavilion p6310f desktop PC. I desire to put some cassette tape music on the computer using the TEAC tape deck player. I do not have a receiver for the tape deck, but I would like to know if the digital info of the songs would be picked up and put on the computer/
Rocketeer89, welcome to the forum.
Here is a comprehensive guide on how to accomplish your task:
http://m.wikihow.com/Transfer-Cassette-Tape-to-Computer
You should not need a receiver. Some of the connections are located diffently and colored differently on your computer, but the names are the same.

Video preview/playback not working
I am a new premier elements 8 user.
I've captured some video from my camera using a firewire connection.
When I try to play back the video, I get a frozen image in the preview. Every once in a while I might get a different image, but it's mostly frozen.
I've updated quicktime to the latest. I've updated my nvidia drivers to the latest. I've run windows update. Premier elements has been updated. Everything (that I can tell) is up to date.
My PC is running Windows 7 64-bit, 6 GB RAM, AMD Athlon II X4 630.
The video file noted above can be played back in windows media player, windows movie maker, cyberlink power director (free version, came with the new PC), all without issues.
In fact, any video I try to load (all captured using a slightly older PC, using Pinnacle) has the same problem, so I'm thinking it's not related to one codec or the other, because it seems different types of capture encoding show the same problem when played back.
I've tried disabling and re-enabling the GPU usage setting under preferences; no diff.
I've tried contacting Adobe support, read through several KB articles, I'm running out of patience.
Any ideas?
--JSMy audio drivers have been updated.
I've tried capturing using all 4 dv project presets. When I select DV PAL Std 48khz (which is not the default nor is it the type of camera I have since I live in the US), I get an error message stating something about a potental quality issue because the method doesnt match the source, however after capturing via that method, the video plays back.
g-spot states that I have the proper codecs. The video clips I was capturing previously show that I have the proper codecs installed and play without issue (including the audio) in g-spot. When I capture using the NTSC project settings, the video codec in use shows as codec "dvsd" and name "DVC/DV/Video" and format NTSC. The audio codec is "PCM Audio". If I capture using the PAL project settings, the video codec does not change however the format still shows NTSC.
I've noticed that when I capture using the NTSC method, I have an error message at the bottom of the premeir elements screen. There's a little red X and next to it reads "Display performance will be poort due to incorrectly oeprating graphics card or driver!". Note that I previously updated the drivers for the nvidia chipset on my system, I've run an HP diagnostic for the video chipset which passes with no trouble reports, and multiple video codecs/containers play back without issue using windows media player, quicktime, pinnacle studio, and windows movie maker.
So... I'm still having the same problem. When I set up a project using the proper method and the proper formats, the captured video does not play back in premier elements 8.
At this point I have two problems....
1) I cannot view captured video, or any other video, unless there's a hack in place by capturing via the PAL project pre-settings; using premier elements on my pc.
2) Why does this workflow and asset work in 3 other editors on my system, and why does the asset play back in at least 3 other viewers on my system, but with premeir elements I cannot simply preview captured video?
Any help or additional guidance is appreciated. I feel like I'm spending way to much time trying to get a simple process to work properly.
Heres the dxdiag info...

Device Manager in Windows 7 won't populate
My device manager won't populate in Win 7 Premium. It started after I tried to install a video card, but could never get it installed, so I took it out & reverted to onboard graphics. I tried 2 different video cards-a Radeon 6450 & an Nvidia 8600
GT with no success. The computer would not recognize them. It's an HP p6310f about 2 years old. How do I get Device Manager to populate again?Hello,
The Windows Desktop Perfmon and Diagnostic tools forum is to discuss performance monitor (perfmon), resource monitor (resmon), and task manager, focusing on HOW-TO, Errors/Problems, and usage scenarios.
Since your post is off-topic, I am moving it to the
off topic forum.

Slow Video Games & Fullscreen In-Computer Video Files
I have a HP p6310f Desktop with Windows 7. It's only a little more than a year old. I have had no problems with it before; but now I am having slight issues.
Whenever I pull up a PC game with 3d graphics (even if I have the game set on the lowest definition settings), I get a really slow framerate, which makes the game pretty much un-playable.
Also when I try to pull up a video saved on my machine in full screen on Windows Media Player, the video slows waaay down and the audio and video don'y match. However, this doesn't happen with DVDs.
I think I have a great graphics card and plenty of RAM, so i don't really understand why this is happening. I defragment my computer once a week, and I have more than half of my memory free. I'm paranoid that something is wrong with my computer, and would be really grateful if someone could help me out.Hi,
If you don't have any restore points to go back to then someone has tampered with your PC. The Windows restore point process is set active by default.
Backup your data to external media (usb drive) and then use the HP Recovery Disks to bring your PC back to factory fresh condition. If your PC has never been connected to the internet then it's missing a lot of critical and highly recommended updates. Review these HP updates and once you do get connected to the internet then you will have many Microsoft updates.
Off the cuff I would start with a video driver update and then a bios update.
Another looming issue in the background is that the motherboard in your PC has a bad history.

3TB drive available in Win7 Disk Admin; only 801GB recognized by BIOS
Hello, I have used seagate disc wizard to format the drive as GPT, and 1 partition of size 3TB. The OS recognizes the drive as such. however, once I try to write more than 800 GB (which is what the bios recognizes), the system stop responding and I have to hard power off. Is there any fix for this, or can my desktop not support this? I have already returned one drive to Seagate, but I no longer believe it was a drive issue. I have an HP Pavilion p6310f, running bios 5.16. The SATA firmware upgrade on the HP suport site appears to only for Western Digital drives, so I have not applied that fix. Thank you. Bert Cross
Hi, Sorry about giving you a link to the XP driver site. Try this site for a later W7 nforce SATA driver. A driver update is not going to change what the bios is indicating. That is why you have to use the drive as a non-boot drive. What disk format are you using? You need to use NTFS. If the updated driver doesn't solve the issue then you may end up having to use the "extended capacity" manager that comes along with the Seagate disk wizard. Did you install the Acronis driver?

Is the M2N78-LA motherboard prone to failure?
This is my second new thread posting in less than a week. My first is here:http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Hardware/bd-p/HardwareDPC Now my other HP Windows 7 PC - a p6000 is also experiencing similar problems. They both have the same mobo - M2N78-LA. On the pc6000 all I get is the screen that displayes the BIOS, processor, CPU speed and the 4 memory banks. So far, so good. Then it says Initializing USB controllers..
DoneThen several blank lines before it says
Press <F10> to enter Setup
Then nothing... although sometimes after the 'Done' line it says
1st Drive: None
2nd Drive: None
3rd Drive: None
4th Drive: None
00 USB mass storage devices found and configured
befire going to a new screen where it says
Reboot and Select proper Boot device or Insert Boot media in selected Boot device and press a key
Pressing any key just redisplays the msg.
What could possible be going on with these 2 nearly identical HP desktops with the same mobo?
Same results with a Windows 7 Home Premium CD in the drive. Here are the specs for the p6310f and here are the specs for the p6310y. They have the same everything according to the specs... same motherboard (Violet6), same CPU, same memory, same HDD... same everything. Must be that one was sold Fry's (p6310f) and the other by Best Buy (p6310y)... cause the only difference is the last letter in the model name. As for being prone to failure... I have a two computers that use that series of motherboards, one with the Violet m/b and one with the Violet6 m/b and neither has failed in 2+ years of use. Frank
