P6310y Graphics Card Update - What I bought as an upgrade

p6310y Graphics Card Update
Hi Everyone!
I wanted to give back to the community on this one since I got such great support when I asked.  I am a casual gamer, and do a little video work from time to time.  Byeond that, this PC is used for web surfing, email, documents, etc.      I was considering upgrading my graphcs card, which I had already upgraded to the  XFX ATI 4350 1GB several years ago.   When I posted the question, Big Dave was especially helpful and suggested that I look at the MSI nVidia N750 TI or TF.   They both looked like great choices, but were both north of $100 which I had set as a limit.  ( At some point, you just have to consider upgrading the desktop )   I went to my local Tiger Direct and found what has turned out to be a great solution!  I bought a Zotac nVidia GeForce GT 730 2 GB. ( Zotac GT730 LP 2GB 64 bit DDR3 )    I used the FireStorm software ( included with the card ) to overclock it just a little, and it has turned out to be great!   It was about $75, and has allowed me to play World of Tanks with much higher settings while maintaining good FPS ( frames per second ).
I hope that helps some of you that are still using this quite capable desktop if you are looking for an upgrade.

@Big_Dave
Here is one for you!

Thank you for posting your outcome.  We always appreciate hearing what solution was reached when asked for help.  It sounds like you made the best choice for you.  Good gaming.

  • P6310y graphic card update?

I was wondering if I can put a better graphics card in my HP p6310y without it conflicting with the built in GeForce 9100

OK now I know what you are thinking. 650 watts is plenty.
Review the ATI and NVIDIA performance specifications. Look at the memory bandwidth specifications and the DirectX level support.
How to replace a power supply.
How to replace a video card.
The only concern might be heat.  The new ATI cards draw a lot less wattage than the new NVIDIA cards.  A 100 watt light bulb is cooler than a 300 watt light bulb.

  • PPC Quad G5 Graphic Card Update from 6600

    Hi,
I just got a new EOS 40D, and am wondering if anyone has any info whether Apple will provide graphics card updates for Quad PPC G5 users who have the 6600?
Is this something they will be doing, ever?

you mean the PCI-E G5? If so, then it appears that Apple is completely deaf to the thousands of customers that purchased a machine less than a year ago. As of now, there's no way of getting a video card upgrade (short of paying 4 times the retail value for one over at welovemacs.com). If I would have known that this is the level of support that I would have been getting, then I would have waited the extra 6-8 weeks for the 7800GT. fill out a feedback form, and hopefully they'll get the hint:

  • Graphics Card for Motion 4, RAM and processor upgrade

I am using a dual quad-core Mac Pro with 8GB DDR2 667MHz RAM for FCP and Motion. I have a NVIDIA Quadro FX card which does not work with Motion. Any suggestions on the card? I am looking into ATI 4870. Also, would like to put in some more RAM..any suggestion? I am looking at products on www.crucial.com
Also, does putting two graphics cards help at all?
Considering processor upgrades..will it be worth it?
Thanks in advance for your responses and time.

Also, does putting two graphics cards help at all?
No, unless you need more than two displays.
Considering processor upgrades..will it be worth it?
    No.

  • Graphics card update, More RAM, what to do?

At the risk of replicating Amg Video Productions post below http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=537641&tstart=0 I just wanted to add this. We're in a similar situation - bought a new Power Mac 2.5 Ghz with 2.5 G RAM and GeoForce FX 5200 last spring and Motion is just a dog on it. Endless renders, 3-4 FPS real time play back, everything gummy as he**. My question is -- what does anyone suggest? Do we plow another $800 into a new graphics card when the Intel Core Duos are coming out for the towers? Do we whack in more RAM? Or what's the solve here? We're growing fast and using Motion increasingly for things we used to outsource, which is a huge save for us - not to mention that the clients love it. So it's becoming an indispensible part of our creative arsenal. But if we pimp this machine out to run Motion well that means we've blown almost a grand that could go toward a new Intel-based PowerMac (or whatever they're going to be called).

I'm not gonna presume to tell you which option is best for you, but I will say that the FX5200 is the slowest card that will run Motion by far. Slower by a factor of 3 or 4 over the next higher up ATI 9600. You could get one of those for $65. You could go for an ATI 9800 for somewhere areound $269. Running the same project and comparing gfx cards, (the thread is here) shows:
    nVidia 5200....1.5 fps
    ATI 9600.......4 fps
    ATI 9800.......10 fps
    ATI x800.......17 fps
    nVidia 6800....18 fps
    nVidia 7800....21 fps
So you can see that there is quite a bit of room for improvement over your FX5200 for less than a grand...

  • Et1331g-03w graphics card update

    I have the et1331g-03w.
    http://www.emachines.com/products/products.html?prod=ET1331G-03w
It has pci and pci express card slots
Power supply is 300 or less
I want to be able to play games on the computer. Currently I can play Left 4 Dead 2 on the computer at low settings, but I want to play something more like Battlefield: Bad Company 2. I pass all the requrements for the game other then the graphics card.
So my question is what graphics card (And power supply) should I get so I can get the best preformance.
Because at some point the cards are better then the CPU (AMD Athlon™ II X2 dual-core processor 235e (2.7GHz, 2MB L2 cache)) and it would be a wast to spend more money on a card that out preformes the CPU.

This "requires" a 350watt PSU, but, you should be able to get by with a 300 as that's a pretty loose requirement.
I'm currently using one of these in a HTPC box and it does great. Mind you, it's NOT future proof, and won't make your head spin in games, but it's a decent upgrade.

  • HP p6310y graphics card failing, will one of these work?

For the last few days my monitor blacks out for a few minutes, so I thought the monitor was going bad, but last night while usiing a 3D program an error poppped up. Something about nvidia card has failed, but has recovered. The graphics card installed is what came with the PC when purchased. It's an Nvidia GeForce 9100. I've been looking at graphics cards all day and am just getting more and more confused. I do not do any gaming, but I do need a card good enough to run 3D rendering programs and programs like photoshop, and also need an affordable one. Are  either of these compatible with my PC and will they run these programs?

    Hi:
I think the 610 GT will work fine in your PC.
I would go with this one as the specs state it has a 128 bit memory interface.
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814139078
That will be a better performing card over one with a 64 bit memory interface.
New Egg has the same 64 bit Galaxy card for a lot less ($20) than Best Buy.

  • Graphics card update for windows 7 problem

Hi, I have a 24" iMac 2008 it requires a graphics card upgrade for installing windows 7 i have 10.7 lion running, but it says on checking available disks that it cannot be installed on this disk as it requires 10.6  any ideas the update says 10.6 or later

The only thing I can think of is maybe Apple doesn't have a Lion compatible Firmware installer?
If nobody else hops in here with another idea then the only thing I can think of is to get an external HD and install 10.6 back on to it and boot from there and give it ago. If anything you now have a back up disk?
Maybe try the iMac forums to see how they did it. Just mention you were here already.
But you MAY have to swap the drives as the firmware installer might not work via booted from an external drive, just the nature of the beast.

  • Graphic card update question

ok i have been using the oem gt 220 for quite some time and need to update it. Something I should have thought about before buying the computer, but nontheless I have some immediate concerns. I plan on updating to a 600 series nvidia card.
While the the majority of the cards do not use much more power then the one I have now, ( for example an extra 10 watts) is buying a new power supply an immediate concern?
I have no idea what concerns I should have about the motherboard. Are the slimline models that different now then they were in 2010?
Upgrading from a small form card to dual slot card concerns me also. As of right now I have to have the side open with a large fan on it for my oem card! What are some concerns I should be thinking about when replacing it with a dual slot card!!!
I'm not going to be able to afford any newer gtx model or even a lower grade gtx, amd, or raideon. A small upgrade is all i want to do.

When requesting assistance, please provide the complete model name and/or product number of the HP computer in question. HP makes many models of computers that are all different. Without this information it may be difficult or impossible to assist you in resolving your issue.

  • Recommendations for graphics card update

I have a dual processor 867MHz MDD G4 and am thinking of putting in a better graphics card - primarily to (a) see the transparent menu bar in Leopard and (b) improve performance by using any available hardware acceleration on the card instead of CPU clock cycles.
    Any recommendations please?

    Hi-
The ATI Technologies RADEON 9800 PRO MAC EDITION 4x AGP graphics card will give you the performance boost you're looking for. Core Image and Quartz Extreme are supported with this card, which are needed for embedded OS effects.

I already tried updating the drivers, but it didn't change much.
Does anyone know a solution? Thanks in advanced.
Personal thoughts on why I think it's this way:
I think it's really bad running games because of the integrated graphics card, but one can't be too sure.
If I can't fix it this way, is there a way I can upgrade the graphics card?
Or do I just return it instead?
Wondering if I can upgrade to a 8750m Graphics card? Is it possible? If so where do I purchase one? If I can't, Is there a way I can upgrade to a new graphics card? Or do I jut return the product?

    Here is the manual: http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c04310036.pdf
You have to change the whole motherboard for that.
Your graphic card in internal: integrated onto the board.
Also the processor you're having is the top one possible from AMD for this laptop & the graphic card associated with is limited to Radeon R5.

On mac website they write about the upgrade.
    Compatibility:
Requires Mac Pro (Early 2009 with 1066MHz DDR3 memory) or Mac Pro (Early 2008 with *800MHz DDR2 FB-DIMM memory*) with PCI Express 2.0 slot
will the card work on my mac???
If not what are my other options as I have not so great NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT 256MB

It is only when you get to the bottom, and that you want to PLAY GAMES that it is possible to answer.
Having 7300GT is worthless, unless to use 3rd monitor.
Only Windows has better Nvidia graphics and drivers for games. And if you run Windows, you can use PC card and leave the 7300GT for OS X alone.

  • Graphic card update .. Why is it so complicated

    Hello,
Sad to say but I am at this point where I think that I probably made a mistake to go for Mac.
(Especially after that Final Cut X episode).
Well , here is my question:
I have a 2009 MacPro Nehalem process (let me know if you need the serial number) and I would like (actually it is more a need) to upgrade.
I work with HD stuff and 2 GT 120 are just not powerfull enough to do what I want.
My question is: is it really the only thing you offer?
    http://store.apple.com/ca/product/MC742ZM/A?fnode=MTY1NDA5OQ&mco=MTg2OTU0NzM
Is there another alternative? Is there another model compatible with Mac pro 2009 ?
    Please save my life
    Thanks a lot.
( I was also curious to know why you charge $269 when Futur Shop charges $199 for the same thing)

Speaking for "The Netkas Group" I can say that GTX580 can be made to work but Hatter is right in that power issue is not easily gotten around.
Best to add an external Power Supply to use GTX480 or GTX580.
There is no EFI for 5xx Nvidia cards so they are ATY_Init only. GTX570 can be easily powered with existing outputs but needs ATY_Init to work. (can be used without helper in 10.7.2 Beta)
There are EFI ROMs for GTX470 and GTX480.
They work perfectly but the need for external juice on 480 is a real downer.
Basically, unless you use software that can get use from CUDA, the ATI cards are better deal. The 6870 can run 4 separate displays at once, the vaunted 480/580 cards just 2. The official Apple 5770 is a sweet spot in terms of value and ease of use.
The Nvidia Fermi cards are for Power users with specific needs.
For editing Gramma's 85th b-day video and watching all the latest You-Tube / Facebook / Twitter dreck, the 5770 is more than sufficient.
EDIT: I am adding the following info that I posted in another thread.
It sums up what cards are OFFICIALLY supported in which Macs. Do what you will with it.
I will make it simple, here is a list of ALL Mac Pro video cards as released by Apple or their partners. These were cards that were either available on the machines, or through retail. Note that there are flashed versions of these cards which can cross borders, but these are the OFFICIAL released cards.
    Work in ALL Mac Pros:
    ATI X1300
    ATI X1900XT
    ATI 2600 XT
    ATI 3870
    ATI 4870
    ATI 5770
    ATI 5870
Work in 1,1 and 2,1 Mac Pro ONLY (EFI32)
    Nvidia 7300GT
    NVidia 8800GT  (EFI32 version)
    Quadro 4500
Work in 3,1 or later Mac Pro (64 bit EFI)
    Nvidia 8800GT (EFI64 version)
    Nvidia GT120 (aka 9500GT)
    Nvidia GTX285
    Nvidia Quadro 5600
    Nvidia Quadro 4000
You will note that ALL of the ATI cards work on ALL of the Mac Pros (due to EBC EFI)
You will note that Nvidia cards are either/or. The ONLY Nvidia card that is available on BOTH types used a completely different EFI on each version. Thus, an 8800GT that works GREAT in my 1,1 Quad 3.0 will boot to a black screen in my 4,1 Octo 2.26.
    Such a simple rule...
ALL ATI CARDS WORK IN ALL MAC PROS
ALL NVIDIA CARDS WORK IN ONE OR THE OTHER.
To add to the confusion, there is no single way that these Macs are referenced. Apple calls the 3,1 Macs the "Early 2008" Mac Pros. So someone who remembers that they bought theirs in February of 2008 thinks theirs is 3,1 and therefore EFI64. What they don't remember is that they got a KILLER deal because OWC was clearing their stock of 2007s and they got a 2,1. They order an 8800GT for a "Early 2008" and get a BLACK SCREEN.
When buying an Nvidia card, whether from an online retailer or EBay auction or garage sale, it is vitally important to know which Mac Pro you have and which Mac Pro the card is designed to work in.
