  • DVR/STB Troubleshooting

I have been having some issues with my service or DVR since the new guide/firmware update last year.
The first issue is that an average of 50% of my DVR recordings will have a glitch in them:
Jogging forward or fast forward causes the program to end and return to the recording menu.
Not channel specific or time specific; could be any recording.
Steps taken to resolve this issue:
Auto fix STB issues under In Home Agent - no change.
Auto fix DVR issues under In Home Agent - no change.
Power cycling STB - no change.
Called into support and they sent out a replacement DVR - issue seemed to be resolved for around a month but reoccurred.
The above process was repeated with the new DVR/STB with no change.
I have also tried turning Program Chaptering On/Off and the problem still occurs regardless of this setting. One thing that I have noticed is that during the affected recordings the information bar will often disappear completely or have the incorrect recording time (IE when playing a 30 minute recording and pressing Info button the program will show 10:00/1:30:00 or 10:00/0:00:00 as if the DVR does not know how long the recording is actually). The jog forward or fast forward causing the program to end usually occurs after 10 minutes of record time. This issue is very annoying as it defeats part of the purpose of the DVR and being able to skip through the program.
The second issue that I am having is intermittent issues with what seems like signal quality and delays changing channels:
Turning the DVR on and changing channels usually results in anywhere from a 30 sec to 2 minute delay (DVR stays on the selected channel or goes to a black screen until the DVR processes the channel change and goes to the selected channel).
Seems to occur when changing from a local channel to a premium or HD channel or vice versa (3 to the HD 503 or any channel to 70 or 76).
At times the signal seems to drop out and I get a lot of audio freezing and some artifacting in the picture.
The channel change/audio skip or freeze usually occur once or twice an hour.
Steps taken to resolve this issue:
I did a search and found that some users had success changing or turning off the SD override feature, I have tried Off, 480i, 480p and Stretched - no impact on channel change delay or audio/video freezing.
Auto fix STB/DVR with In Home Agent - no change.
These issues are very frustrating and hard to pin down from a diagnostic standpoint. Each time I call into support when the issue is occurring the Menu Diagnostics or STB/DVR reset throws a red herring in that the problem seems solved until the next day when the problems start again or I have a DVR full of recordings that I cannot fast forward through. No offense but I am tried of going through Level 1 phone support and running through the book resolutions only to solve the problem temporarily. If anyone can shed some more advanced light on this issue, it would be greatly appreciated.
    Edit for formatting.

What you are describing in both scenarios is a signal disruption. Please unscrew the coax cord from both ends (from the DVR and from the wall). Make sure the tips are good and straight. Screw both back on. If you are still having troubles, then try using a different coax cord all together. If you are still having troubles, it might be a problem with the wall jack or the main splitter. For further assistance with those, please send me a private message.

  • Boolean troubleshooting

    Hello every body
I am trying to make a loop, and i got stuck at the following part. please suggest an appropriate solution:
I want to make a loop which starts saving data when it recieves a 'True' from a boolean control and then bypasses the loop itself and keeps on collecting data irrespective of the boolean output. I am attaching my 'vi'

To latch a Boolean, you just need a shift register as shown below. Also, from what I can tell, you have no way to stop the program unless you use the Abort Button on the toolbar. Wire a stop button to the stop input of the DAQ Assistant. For clarity, you might also want to convert the output of your Greater Than function to a single Boolean. I thoroughly despise dynamic data because it just makes it harder to see the actual data type.

  • VISA troubleshooting with puTTY

I am attempting to talk to a device through USB but it acts as a COM port/ serial connection through a driver.
I am writing commands to the device, and the the bytes in port vi shows that bytes are being written to the device, yet the device does not respond at all.
I can easily operate the device through putty though.  I know the device works as I have confirmed it through an oscilloscope.  What else should I troubleshoot?  Or, are there other easier ways to write/read to a serial port other than VISA
I've attached a standard writing VI I have also tried with no luck.  Should I try to continue to use VISA, or can I emulate puTTY on labVIEW?

What termination characters are you using with putty? CR, LF, both? You have to send the same with VISA.
I'm not sure why you would attach an example that comes with LabVIEW. If you would read any of the hundreds of posts on this subject, you would know the example's string control is set for '\' Codes Display. Use \r and \n as needed.

That model may or may not have a recovery partition. If Windows runs, you can check it out this way.
1.46GB partition and other small partition are for the System Recovery Options and the factory softw...
    Look for a third partition.

  • Help troubleshooting, please!...

    Hi fellow Fios people,
It takes a little time to describe, but it is necessary to kno what I've tried
I have had FIos working on a desktop for over 6 months.  This is connected directly to a dataport that runs down 1 floor to my basement where the router is located and the main hub leading to all the other 3 dataports in my home, as well as Fios TV.  I bring home a wireless laptop from work that I set up in the kitchen (1 floor above the basement) and it connects just fine wirelessly.
Since my kids are getting older and we can't all share the same computer, I tried to add a desktop on the bedroom level, right where there is a dataport.  When I connect it with an ethernet cable, there pops up a symbol in the lower right corner of the screen that says 'connected at 100mbs/second.  But I can't get it to connect to the internet.  Spent hours on my own, tried all the troubleshooting tips and downloading (on the working desktop) to a flash drive the Fios connection wizard, all to no effect.  After being on hold for over 45 minutes, finally got a service guy at Fios who had me try to ping, with no luck. tried all avenues through the control panel and through wireless XP utilities.  No luck.  We switched cables at the router from the port that worked to the port that did not, my existing desktop reconnected no problem, but still no ping, no connection upstairs.  He concluded that there is notheing he can do, no suggestions, that I must have a bad ethernet card.
Next day I have my laptop that works wirelessly in the kitchen.  I bring it upstairs and use the ethernet cable to try to hardwire it.  No luck, no connection.  Then I try to connect wirelessly, no luck.  When I open Show all available  wireless connections, it detects my network with a good signal(4 bars, if that means anything) and everyone elses in the neiborhood with much wweaker signals.  But no matter how may times I tell it to connect, it won't.  So I pick up the laptop and start to walk downstairs with it. As I get halfway down the stairs, it connects without my even trying.
Okay, so thats the situation.  With 4 bars of signal showing, I guess that is not strong enough to connect??  Why wouldn't the ethernet connection work?  It shows in the lower right corner that it has a 100mb signal on both my laptop and my desktop?  My pproblem is that I don't know if I need to get a new computer for the upstairs so that my kids can do work(becuase my old desktop is old, and may have a bad ethernet card, and I don't want to spend money making it wireless, do I?  Is there such a thing as a range extender for the router, and does anyone think that will help, and how do you set that up?
Am I better of relocating my router to the center floor of my house by running an ethernet cable upstairs from the outside feed to the routher and then to my computer?  BUt then my TV will get all screwed up because all the home runs are in the basement by the router? Customer Service has proven to be a waste of time with internet connection issues.
Suggestions, please!  I know some of you out there are more technically savvy than I, and hopefully are willing to spend a little of your valuable time helping out a fellow Human trying to help his kids on a limited budget.  I've seen a decent desktop at Staples by HP for only about $400, but there is no guarantee that will work unitl I know if this is a range problem, and how do I check my direct dataport upstairs?
    Thanks, I'll shut up now.
    Regards to all,
    Jeff in River Edge

Is your WAN Connection from your ONT wired for Coax or ethernet?
I can't exactly pinpoint the cause from your description.. And i'm sure tech support has had you power cycle everything to start off..
I am assuming since you have no connectivity to any of your clients, the router needs to be configured properly.
Are your computers all obtaining a LOCAL (192.168.x.x) IP address from your router?
Are you able to access Video On Demand on your TVs?
If you can connect locally, but can't surf out to the internet - then you need to make sure your broadband WAN(Wide area Network) connection (Either Coax or Ethernet - however the tech installed it) has an IP and is enabled.. Otherwise, you wont be able to get anywhere..
    I'm not sure what an ONT is, but if its' the router;
The Ethernet WAN light is on, the COAX light is off, and there is only one COAX jack on the back of the router, and I'm 99% sure it is for Fios TV.
All other jacks on the back of the router are CAT5.
All other 'clients' are working, My main desktop in the office, my wireless laptop works in the basement and on the main level of the home, but will not connect upstairs where the 2nd desktop is located, which is the one I am trying to add to the system.  Also, my laptop will not connect when hard wired to the same ethernet port.
Yes, all the working connections show a local address of 192.168 x x , but something peculiar is that the desktop that I can't connect was showing that it was connected but to a completely differnent address, which I don't recall.  This desktop says that it is connected, I've gotten it as far as being able to ping, but not connect to the internet.
I dowmnloaded the Router Manual from Verizons site and followed the isntruction for logging into the router, and found that the connection I was truing to make was not enabled.  I enabled it, but was unsure of what IP or DNS values to give it.
I have pdf screenshots of some of the configuartion pages, and would love to email them to someone who knows what they mean.  I think there-in lies the problem.
One other thing, whenever I run the Fios connection wizard, it says that my connection from tje router to the computer is broken, that I have a bad wire, but I still get the 'connected at 100mbs message in the lower corner, and like I said, can ping out to the 192.168.x.x settings.
I have not done a reset for over a week or so, trying at the beginning to get the upsstairs desktop.
    Thanks,
    Jeff

  • Big Troubleshooting List with S10-3t

    In order of importance:
-Big Beeping Noise at random. Sort of like two electronic heartbeats, just with less bass and somewhat more treble. Machine was plugged in at the time.
-Sound changes no longer displays. I can press Fn left or right to change sound intensity, but it no longer displays.
-Trackpad is somewhat broken. It still technically works, but there's a loud click every time I put pressure on the left button, which doesn't necessarily result in a button press.

beep sound is saying that you're having serious issue with your computer, probably mainboard, ram.

  • Pixelation troubleshooting

I had trouble with pixelation from installation date (6/26/08). Installation tech asked if I had this problem before--I said no. After he made some adjustment the problem disappeared (until after his departure). Didn't use this set until Olympics & pixelations, sound problems & intermittent blackouts occurred. My first reaction was THIS CAN"T BE FIOS so I'd better buy a new TV. Then sanity returned & I got my 12" TV with the fios digital adapter box & started troble shooting.
Step 1. replaced pixelating TV with 12" TV --problem persisted. ;i.e. nothing wrong with my TV
Step 2. Plugged TV directly into cable terminal --no problem ;i.e. trouble not in cable input but in downstream components.
Step 3. Substituted fios digital adapter for STB box--VOILA !! problem disappeared
Step 4. Called fios tech support. Told them my trouble shooting steps. They said they'll send a repleacement STB box & transferred me to a business/billing office to complete steps for getting new box only to be told that the original installation order is not listed as complete & they couldn't send a replacement STB until the original order is listed as complete. Told me to call back Thursday & hopefully I can then request a new box.
Oh for the good old days of regulation & C&P telephone Co. customer service.

  • PCI-7030 troubleshooting

    Hello,
We've just bought a new PC for our lab.
It runs WINDOWS XP SP2 and is equiped with
    the Real-Time DAQ-device PCI-7030/6030E.
Before plugging the DAQ card into a pci slot,
    I re-installed LabView 5.1.2 and the latest
    compatible NI-DAQ driver (version 6.9.3).
Then I inserted the card in the PC.
Up to that point, everything worked fine.
Then I tried to test the card as explained in
    the link below :
    http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/3efedde4322fef19862567740067f3cc/496468935bf5810986256ad300513487?OpenDocument
The RT processor board 7030 as well as the daughterboard 6030
are effectively detected by MAX, and the 7030 passes the test
    succesfully.
However, when I want to reset the device as indicated in
the aforementionned link, the card fails to reboot.
None of the solutions proposed in the link hereafter solved
    this issue.

Can anyone help me to get the card working?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hello,
First of all, sorry for placing that post not in the right
section of the forum. I didn't understand very well the way the
    forum works.
I finally succeeded in resetting the device :
the new PC is featured with a hyper-threaded CPU.
Simply desable the hyper-threading technology in
    the bios solved the issue.
I got the information from a post relative to a PCI-7041 device :

  • 6100 HD Troubleshooting

i noticed on the drivers page for this model that there is nothing for XP service pack 2/3......is this model going to have problems reformatting on clean drive with XP updated to sp3?

Well...i didnt see any drivers for SP2.....BUT it doesnt matter at this point because I cant install a new HD....i noticed threads pertaining to this subject on here...i found out something about the HARD DRIVE SIZE FOR this model as I attempted to install XP on a new WD1600BEVE:
Windows only recognized a 130gig formatable partition...the other 30gig was unable to partition or even access and I kept on trying and kept on getting a **bleep** BLUE SCREEN at some point this is what I found:
-The system does not have a 48-bit LBA-compatible Basic Input/Output System (BIOS) installed. This includes EIDE controller card BIOSs. Please contact your motherboard or controller card manufacturer to determine if your hardware supports 48-bit LBA addressing. Please see Answer ID 936: Operating System and BIOS limitations - 137GB, 32GB, 8.4GB for more information pertaining to this issue.
If you have an Intel based motherboard with the following chipsets:
    Intel 810 Chipset Family\
    Intel 815 Chipset Family
    Intel 820 Chipset Family
    Intel 840 Chipset family
    Intel 845 Chipset Family
    Intel 850 Chipset family
    Intel 860 Chipset family
The motherboard will not support full 48-bit LBA addressing until an Intel based utility called the Intel Application Accelerator is installed into Windows (after Windows has been installed). See Answer ID 1004: Can I use the Intel Application Accelerator with WD drives over 137GB (128GB binary).... This means that initially, the drive will need to be setup with a partition under 137GB (128GB Binary). Once the Intel Application Accelerator has been installed, the remainder of the hard drive's free space can be partitioned and formatted from the directions in Answer ID 207: How to install, partition, format, or reformat a WD external hard drive in Windows XP.
    Then i found this:
The Intel Application Accelerator provides 48-Bit LBA compliant ATA/ATAPI controller drivers (IntelATA.mpd). This driver replaces the standard Windows 2000/XP controller driver and supports drives over 137GB.
If you are using drives that are larger than 137GB, Intel recommends that you install version 2.3 or higher of the Intel Application Accelerator.
Versions of the Intel Application Accelerator prior to 2.3 may result in a blue screen error and the inability to boot your system. These issues were resolved in Beta version 2.3 and higher of the Intel Application Accelerator. This is also important if you are using the Promise Ultra TX2 100 controller card.
    The Intel Application Accelerator only supports the following chipsets: 810, 810E, 810E2, 810L, 815, 815EP, 815G, 815EG, 815P, 820, 820E, 840, 845, 845E, 845G, 845GE, 845GL, 845GV, 845PE, 850, 850E, 860.
I was excited to have found a fix...but I had to get an OS on there somehow.....so now I am trying...TOSHIBA HD2183...THIS SHOULD WORK.....
First attemp was with UNATTENDED XP W/ SP3....BLUE SCREEN
Second attemp was with WINDOWS 2000 original...BLUE SCREEN
Third attemp (IN PROCESS NOW) UNATTENDED 2000 SP4....im 92% with formatting...im sure it will BLUE SCREEN when it starts copying or installing.....BLUE SCREEN PAGE FAULT ERROR
Fourth attemp with XP SP2......BLUE SCREEN SOMETHING ACCESS POOL FAULT ERROR
Anyone have info on how to install HD in this machine.  Or could it be somehting else causing this critical error on install?????

  • Troubleshooting compiled code?

I am using Fieldpont modules to control some lab tests.  Since we have a few separate tests, we've decided to use compiled code to cut down on Labview costs.
The issue I'm having is when I have an error in the compiled code on a new install.  Is there any way to see where in the code the error is occurring?  Maybe some sort of test run mode or something? I know the code interacts with the windows registry as well as a few files on the hard drive. I think this is where the problem is. Unfortunately, I did not write the code, so I'm not certain where the problem could be.  I have always been able to easily troubleshoot issues with code when running the full Labview software, but with the compiled code, you can't see the block diagram.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
