P67-GD65 (B3) won't boot

After upgrading my CPU cooler to a corsair H100, the video failed when my 570 gtx was plugged into the primary PCIX (top) slot. Moving the card to the second slot, video was displayed just fine. I cleared the CMOS, pulled the battery rebooted a few times, no luck. Next, updated the bios to the latest version -- 7681v43.zip. I followed the procedure correctly, i.e. copied the zip to usb, unzipped, ran the exe, system rebooted, bios updated successfully. Rebooted and now my system won't fully power on, the fans spin up for a bout 2 seconds and then it reboots and is stuck in a loop. Is there anything that can be done? I've worked on / built computers for years and have never run into anything like this. System was running fine for quite a while up until this point.... Thanks in advance for any help.

Reseat the cooler and gpu. Check the socket for pins which got bent during mounting the cooler first time. Since the PCI-E lanes are coming from the cpu problems with detecting vgas are usually caused by pent pins or wrongly placed cpus/ bad presuure on cpu by cooler. Make sure to mount the screws of the H100 heatsink in a cross scheme.
Thanks for the suggestions. I rebuilt the box twice and still had the same problem. I ended up running to Microcenter and picking up an ASRock Z77 extreme6 for $100, rebuilt the system with all the same components and it runs perfectly. I'm going to RMA the MSI board since it's still warranty...

  • P67A-GD65 B3 won't boot?

I just bought a new P67A-GD65 from Fry's an I cannot get it to boot. I installed it with an Intel i5 2500k with stock cooler, Patriot DDR3 1333 PSD38G1333KH ram (2x4gb), Cooler Master Silent Pro 800W power supply, two Caviar Blue 320gb hard drives, and two EVGA GTX470 graphics cards.
All the equipment is brand new, with the exception of the hard drives and graphics cards, both of which were working fine in my previous system.
When I try to power on the system, the fans will spin up, the hard drives will spool, but after about a second the system will shut down, and then try to restart itself. It does this over and over indefinitely until I turn off the power supply. I have tried removing everything except one stick of ram and one VGA, but same results. I returned one mobo, thinking it must have been a defective mobo, but I have the same results with the new one. The LEDS at the top show the CPU going from phase 1 to phase 6 and then the whole system shuts down. The BIOS LED's stay blank. I have checked the CPU pins, as well as the bottom of the CPU, and both look good. The bottom of the CPU has indents where the mobo pins made contact, so I know there is no contact issue there.
I have read multiple posts about rebooting issues, but they seem to vary in cause or when the reboot occurs. Does anyone have an idea of what is going on here? I am at wits end, and about to return the whole setup and go with some non-sandy bridge setup.

You should start with bare minimum of parts to get system running OK and then start adding parts 1 at a time. If you start having problems at a certain point in the process then you know where to start solving the problem. Each of you start your own topic instead of hi-jacking someone elses as the cause of your problem may not be the same and it gets too confusing trying to solve multiple problems of several people in one topic.

  • X79A-GD65(8D) won't boot/enter BIOS

Hi, just got my new board and after rebuilding, it won't let me enter BIOS . POST seems to finish, i see the graphic, then the screen goes blank with a flashing cursor top right of screen.
    specs as follows
    X79A-GD65(8D) board
    32gb Corsair ram (8x4gb)
    Gigabyte t560TI
    Seaget 2TB and 1TB HDD's
    i7-3820 proccessor
Cant find out what the BIOS verion is
I have stripped it right back to 1 stick of ram and one HDD, no change.  Have completely dismantled and checked all connectors.
All help gratefully appreciated, this is/was my main work PC and i'm stuck badly without it.

I'm thinking the UEFI/BIOS version may be the problem. Early production mainboards may have been shipped with v1.0 or v1.2. To support the CPU you have, v1.4 is required.
Added: Standard USB keyboard and mouse? Initial startup should be with minimum components, not 8 sticks of RAM and all the HDD's. Makes it hard to troubleshoot if there is a problem. With just the one stick in the primary dimm slot, power off, pull the PSU power cord, remove the battery for awhile, clear CMOS and see if you can get into the UEFI/BIOS when tapping the Delete key. Was there a code number in the bottom right of the screen also?

how do I update the bios?
Do you have a bootable USB stick? Try the CMOS clear first.

  • X79A GD65 8D Won't Boot

    Starts OK. Proceeds to message:
Asmedia 106X SATA Controller Ver 0.90 IDE Mode
    S.M.A.R.T. Supported
    Using PCIE Gen 2
    Can't find any device.
And then it just hangs on a black (ish)  screen with just the cursor blinking.
I thought that the BIOS needed updating to the latest version to support the i7 3820 but I took it to my local shop to do this and they were able to boot it up on the bench no problems and left the BIOS as is. I get it back and assemble it again into the case and it wont boot again.
    Any ideas at all folks?

What vga do you have? Did you try switching to alternate bios?
Problem is solved. When I tried flobelix's solution it was late at night and I lazily just used DVI on the graphics card and it did not work. This morning I pulled out my old vga monitor and presto it worked (once I connected a drive that is - without one it won't find a UEF map). So I am now going to update video drivers etc. and finish off the build.
As it transpired the message I get at the startup was a red herring and quite normal as I still get it on successful bootup, The message is:
Asmedia 106X SATA Controller Ver 0.90 IDE Mode
    S.M.A.R.T. Supported
    Using PCIE Gen 2
    Can't find any device.
    Thanks flobelix for you help!

  • X79A GD65 8D Won't Boot/Post/No Display

    Hi,
Just recently bought this board with the following hardware
    Intel 3930K C2 Processor
    32 GB 4gb x 8 Gskill 2133 Memory
    2 x 590 nVidia Graphics
    2 x OCZ Vertex 3 SSds
All but the processor were in my last PC and worked fine.
I installed the board/CPU but when I boot the PC lights up but nothing else happens.
There is no video displayed and the LED debug screen stays blank.
I have tried it with minimal h/w (1 graphics card/1 or 2 Memory) but this has no effect.
In fact taking all the hardware out entirely gives the same result as does taking out the CPU.
I have read on the forum that the original BIOS didn't support the C2 stepping ; would this cause this issue ?
If so is there any way to resolve without getting a 2nd processor ?
Any other suggestions would be appreciated
    Thanks

Err... Just reading the manual (don't usually bother I'll be honest) .... is JPWR3 important ?  I thought it was for the external SATA connectors (since the expansion card has the same type of power adapter on it) but the manual says it's for 'use to provide power to the graphics card). This obviously sounds like it would cause a problem with video display (!)  but I had assumed that the 2 x 8 pin power cables to each graphics card would be all they would need. In any case I would have assumed that the motherboard would still boot/error codes display.
I'll be really embarrassed if this is the problem .. I have sent the board for testing back in the UK (can't get a local shop to do it) so if this is the problem I can let them know and avoid too much diagnostics.
    Thanks

  • MSI P67 GD65 Boot Beep change after bios flash 1H & 1I

    Good evening.
First of all my pc specs:
    - Msi P67 GD65 B3 Revision
    - i5 2500K
    - 2 * 4 gb DDR 3 G.Skill Ripjaws XF3 1600 mhz
    - Sapphire HD 4870
    - Ocz Vertex II 60 Gb (windows 7)
    - Western Digital Blue Caviar 1 tb (storage)
Today I flashed the bios using a bootable pen drive.
Previously I had the 1.9 version and all went perfectly fine. The booting sequence was : 1 short beep, short beeps counting my usb devices and 1 final short high tonality beep.
Now I updated to version 1.I and the beep sequence changed completely: now I have 1 long low tonality beep, short beeps counting my usb devices and no final short high tonality beep . Also it takes some more seconds than version 1.9 before making the beeps!
I tried also versione 1.H (which I have in this very moment) and I experienced the same faulty beep sequence
I also tried to clear c-mos and load optimized defaults but I still have the same beep sequence in both cases.
    What shall I do?
Please notice I never changed memory or cpu settings (no overclock at all)

    Quote
They say do not care about the beeps if the PC could work normally.
Same thing I already told you...
Forgot about those stupid beeps.  As long as the system starts & boots fine, they are not critical error signals to begin with but status signs, that tell you that some things are there.
    Quote
What do they mean by "the new bios should fix some beep error" ? Which bios are the talking about? Maybe the upcoming 1 L version which is going to be released in future?
What they are telling you is that the beep sequence is not something to worry about. That the beeps "lie" so to speak and that you are looking for a meaning that is not there.
    Quote
What beep sequence do you have with 1.C version compared to the two videos I posted ?
It does not matter.  You are getting hung up on beeps even though the system is obviously running just fine.  If the beeps are getting on your nerves, then unplug the speaker from the board and enjoy the silence.
This is a non-issue.  Stop being paranoid.

  • Help - My machine won't boot and I cannot get into the BIOS - 990FXA-GD65

I have been trying to install an AHCI driver for use by WinXP, so far with no success (see this link: https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=161637.0 )
However, following my last unsuccessful attempt, I had to take a break from running any more attempts and switched off the machine for several days.
I have come back to it tonight and I find that the machine won't boot at all and that pressing DEL or F11 after starting won't take me to the BIOS or the boot menu. The display shows nothing, other than 'No HDMI signal'
Are there any tests I can do to establish what might be wrong?
    pbb

Thankfully the machine has come back.
I tried a couple of cmos/battery clears, with no success.
Then I took out one stick of memory, cleared the cmos and it all worked on rebooting!
I put back the memory slug, cleared cmos again and it continues to work!!
What a relief - thanks xmad.

  • MSI P67-GD65 (B3) Did I make a bad choice? I'm building a new system!

After reading all the problems everyone seems to be having with boot problems and freezing, did I make a bad choice? Here's what I'm putting together when the parts arrive.
It's been a few years since I built my own rig, but every pc I've ever owned I built myself except my Dell XPS 630i  (got a screaming deal).
    MSI P67-GD65 (B3)
    Intel i7-2600K unlocked and unleashed
    CORSAIR high performance Vengeance memory module 8GB (2x4GB) 1600MHz 9-9-9-24, 1.5V
    Sapphire AMD Radeon HD 6970 2GB GDDR5 PCI-E 1080P
Western Digital Caviar Black 1T Hard Drive
Dell XPS 630i Case and Delll 750W power supply (I know I shouldn't reuse this case)
    Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit

"Dell XPS 630i Case~I know I shouldn't reuse this case"
Poor case for cooling with quad CPU and higher power consuming VGA card as you sure will end up with high temperature problems. It would be wise to get a better case.

    Hello,
I have two kits of memory:
    2x2Gb 1600 cl7 1.65v (that runs at 1.5v with same latencies 7-8-7-24)
    2x4Gb 1600 cl9 1.5v  (9-9-9-24)
Both kits are Gskill Ripjaws, I have already tried lots of things without any success so far, (relax timings to high values, increase voltage, tried link/unlink, swapped kits from black to blue), I cannot boot with RAM set to 9-9-9-24 (whether 1 or 2T) and 1600Mhz, the only way is to disable XMP and let memory speed to auto.
And so memory is recognized and runs in Windows at around 1310Mhz~1315Mhz with timings 7-7-7-20 (values chosen by me since I cannot use higher speeds).
In case I set memory speed to manual, whether its 1333Mhz or other values I get three long bips and I am unable to boot.

And the fact that they are the troublesome Ripjaws to begin with. Mixing one type of troublesome Ripjaws with another type of troublesome Ripjaws and you end up with double trouble.
I see, despite of the fact Ripjaws are mentioned as compatible, I should avoid them as they mean trouble.

  • P67-GD65 B3 Replacement DOA

I did the msi exchange program on my P67 chipset.
Sent my fully working GD65 board to msi for the B3, got the B3 and installed to find its dead.
Really not happy with the time and costs to take time off work to get it sorted for msi to send me a duff board.
Anyway, what to do? Was I just unlucky our do I go back to Asus and forget about msi..
If I do stick with msi who do I contact about ANOTHER board? Scan.co.uk where I bought my B2 board from or back to msi who sent me a dead board?

    Apologies..

When I turn on all fans spin, hard drive lights and power light on. Monitor flashes standby mode. Blue motherboards lights are all lit solid.
No display, no beeps, no POST.
Tried reseating everything, booting with one stick RAM in various slots, no pci cards etc etc.
    Tried clearing CMOS.
One thing I did notice was my motherboard box contents were not organised like my first motherboard box from the shop. Could this be a dead motherboard sent to me by mistake?

  • P67-GD65 voltage options

    Hello,
I was wondering if there is a way to adjust the voltage by offset on P67-GD65 board? I'm currently using v1.8b6 version of BIOS and can't find this option. If voltage is set manually to any value other then Auto it won't drop when CPU is idle - with both EIST and C1E enabled.
    Thanks

    Contact MSI Technical Support here:
    http://support.msi.com/
The form you have to fill out does not require you to choose your mainboard model from a pre-compiled list.  It is a free form that allows you to enter whatever you got into the respective fields (Model Name, M/B ERP Version, M/B ECN version, BIOS Version).
Again, this is a user-to-user forum, not a support platform run by MSI Technical Support but by users just like you.  In average, we have a little over 255 postings per day here, which adds up to more than 1700 postings per weeks (more than 7600 postings per month) concerned with all kinds of different problems (and very often pseudo-problems) with a large variety of different MSI Retail Products.  "Browsing" through these posts "once in a while" is definately not the job of MSI's technical support teams as that would most definately keep them from doing their actual job.
We do not need to debate about this further.  If you have a particular issue that is definately BIOS or UEFI related, then it can only be fixed via a BIOS or UEFI Update. We do not make BIOS or UEFI releases here.  That means we can not help you with those and that is why contacting MSI Technical Support under the above mentioned address is what you should be doing instead of complaining in here.
MSI Tech.   02/25/2011   Please contact the office which handles your region, as we only handle the U.S. and Canada and do not provide over clocking support, so they can advice you on what your options are. You can use the link below to find the proper office. http://www.msi.com/language/
Well Jack, contacting Tech Support online was certainly a good use of my time.
The thing is, I don't think the Engineers even saw my query, because I'm sure someone with a technical mind and devotion to a product they created would have a bit more professional pride when it doesn't work well. A typical customer service monkey basically told me to get lost, they don't want to know.
Because my region, the UK website, explicitly tells me the UK arm only deals with repair and mainteance and for technical issues I must go elsewhere, the "global" service. And in anycase, I don't want an RMA. I want an engineer to have a look and come up with a BIOS revision.

  • P67-GD65 Memory Questions

    Hi,
I have a P67-GD65 motherboard/I7 2600k and Cosair XMS3 2000MHz memory modules. When I use XMP in the bios it marks the memory at 1888mhz, but when I use the OC Genie button and boot into windows 7, MSI control center reports the memory at 1066. The CPU is OC to 4.2. Do you need to adjust the memory manually or could this be a display issue in control center?
    Thanks

Your memory is an example of overclocked and overvolted 1066 chips.
See the max bandwidth in the SPD Tab. PC3-8500F (533) i.e. 1066 and that is what they defaulted to, correctly.
If you inspect the SPD tab you will see 4 JEDEC profiles the last one (XMP) being DDR3-2000 at increased timings but requiring 1,65V which is not JEDEC standard.
Based on these profiles you will have to manually set your memory in the BIOS.
Go into your BIOS and manually select a DRAM ratio that sets your memory to 1333. Set your memory timings manually to 9.9.9.26, those will be the first 4 timings in the list of manually adjustable timings.
Then test your system. If that is stable, then use the same timings but set the memory to 1600. For this test increase your DRAM voltage to approx 1,55V.
    Test and report back.
You need a 64bit OS to be able to access more than about 3GB available RAM. If you have XP 32bit, you should have bought 2 X 2GB and saved a couple of dollars. You can read this thread as well. https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=108883.0

  • P67A-GD65 (b2) stuck in boot loop after bad flash

    Hello,
My mainboard is stuck, I can't open bios setup, (even tho it appears in f11 menu), and it won't boot on any device.
I removed every hard drive and DVD, and tried to boot on DOS with a usb, but it won't even boot DOS, and no usb device appears in f11 menu (I tried every usb ports)
And I can't enter bios setup (it just reboots)
Initially I was trying to update my bios because some features I wanted were not in my old version. But I think Avast blocked the update program (E7681v43.exe opened in an usb) and when I restarted the bios flash failed, and my PC entered a boot loop. When I press f11, it's a new interface so some things in the bios updated.
The only message I get when I put the E7681v43.exe and E7681IMS.430, or the files for v1j (oldest version before ivy bridge support) on a fat32 usb stick (tried formatted, and formated with Rufus), a red message appears saying "bios me updated ... file not found."
Same thing if I try the MSIHQ flash utility, it doesn't work as my PC won't boot on the usb.
I think my motherboard is bricked and the only solution is to send it to msi to get a working bios.
My motherboard p67a gd65 (b2) (the one with bad sata 2 ports) and it doesn't appear in the product name list anymore to register it on msi...
It was bought the on the 19th of January 2011, I hope I can still ask for msi for help!
I'm looking forward to your opinions on my issue, and sorry for the long text.

Quote from: Svet on 24-September-13, 17:50:38
older b2 cannot be updated to the .4xx
you have to send the mobo to be replaced with newer revision
Thanks! do you know where can I ask for a replacement?
I can't register it on msi, and when I ask a question and I give the serial number it just abords...
I already send an email to msi France (I live in Belgium). But email are too slow usually.
and what about the secondary bios, no way to repair primary bios with it?

  • Computer Won't Boot Up

Here is my issue, my computer one day was working fine and the next it won't boot properly.
    System Specs: Satellite T235D-S1345RD (Laptop) - Windows 7 (64bit) - BIOS 1.7 - 4gb RAM -
I have gotten the computer booted one time. I am unsure why it did that time but did not do it another time.
Since that one time I put the computer in hibernate and when I tried to bring it out it told me it failed when coming out of hibernate so it went to reboot and now won't boot.
Here are the few steps I have done to try and get it working.  When it boots up it gives me an error message (says that power failed or for some reason it did not boot)
I have ran "Repair Computer" and it does not do anything.  I try start windows normally and it goes no where.
So I then tried F8 and got into the Advanced Boot Menu. First one I tried was Start Windows From Last Known Good Configuration. (or something like that I forget the exact wording)
When it does that the computer will start to boot up go to the "Windows Loading" screen and then it flashes a blue screen (there are words there but it flashes so quickly I cannot read it) and it goes back to the boot screen and acts like it is restarting and continues in that loop.
Next step - Enter F8 again tried "Repair Computer" and it loads to a black screen with a Cursor but nothing ever happens. I have given it over 30 min and nothing happens.
So next step- I enter F8 again and try to boot up in safe mode and again when it loads it flashes a blue screen and then nothing.
EDIT - I found how to show the blue screen. It says UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME. Not sure what else I should do after I get that error message. Message Reads:
It reads UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME and says if it's the first time I've seen the error screen, to restart the computer. Then it tells me if it appears again, to check and make sure any new hardware or software is properly installed.
"If problems continue, disable or remove any newly installed hardware or software. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. If you need to use Safe Mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer, press F8 to select Advanced Startup Options, and then select Safe Mode."
    END EDIT
Next Step: I come to you guys here on this forum. I am a bit perplexed and lost at what to do. I wonder if this is a virus but I cannot get the computer to respond to try to get  into it to check.
Ideas? Advice? What should I try? I can get into the F8 menu but not sure what else I should try. I will try anything to get this computer up and running!
Thanks for any and all help.

    Hi:
The 24 character failure ID usually indicates HDD is failing/has failed. You need to replace it with a new one.

    Order recovery USB: http://support.hp.com/in-en/product/HP-Pavilion-dv6-6c13cl-Entertainment-Notebook-PC/5191856/model/5...
    Contact HP: https://support.hp.com/in-en/contact-hp/product/HP-Pavilion-dv6-6c00-Entertainment-Notebook-PC-serie...
If you're under warranty, HP would send you replacement HDD.
If you're not, buy any branded 2.5" SATA 9.5mm thick internal laptop HDD and replace it yourself. But HDD of at least same capacity HDD as the one that came with your laptop (640gb) so that recovery media would work -
Go through page 56-58 in the Manual for replacement procedure. It's quite simple DIY job.
    Something like this:
    http://m.newegg.com/Product/index?itemnumber=N82E16822236561
If you've not yet created the Recovery media to restore the factory settings after replacement, you have to order a set of Recovery USB from HP.
For salvaging the data from old HDD, I suggest you take out the drive. Connect it to another PC using SATA to USB adapter - copy all the files you need.

  • Satellite m300 won't boot! please help!

    Hi,
I've got a bit of an issue here.. I have a Satellite m300.. a white one..
and it won't boot... I've had this very issue before but it turned out to be an external USB HDD that stopped it from booting up but now even with everything removed it still won't boot.
And it was fine until yesterday, it just gave up.. I am away from home for work so I have all the work stuff and unfortunately without my recovery cd, but my guess is that it won't even read it..
    So this is what happens..
    turn on..
all light come on.. including power and all the white lights around the keypad..
and then maybe 5 sedconds later caplock and numlock(?) green lights flash..
then it's a dead still.. no HDD activities or sound.. just dead quite..
the screen remains black blank through out..
it seems to get stuck here before reaching the post screen.
i thought the power button usually took more than just a push to turn off? it instantly swithces off with a single push of the power button..
I think this laptop is like on sleep or something and can't seem to wak up.. maybe?
    And it has vista.
Please help.. I have some important work files I need to recover at least before formatting..
and that has to wait till I get home which won't be for a month or so..
which also lets me take it back for warranty as well..
    any help appreciated!!!
    cheers,

Can also be that the motherboard fails to initialize the vga AGP card.
Turn off all power incl. AC .
Disconnect all devices from motherboard : AGP/memory/drives/floppy/USB/PCI cards etc. take out the 20pin & 4pin PSU connectors and reset the motherboards
    cmos .
Assemble PSU connectors ,only one DIMM module and graphics card and turn it on and se if you get a post .
Just removed all components. I reset the CMOS. I then reconnected the 20pin and 4pin, 1 stick ram, and the video card (no ide devices, no mouse, keyboard cd drives) and the monitor doesn't show up. I also tried another monitor so it isn't the monitor.
Could it have a bad AGP port?
Any other suggestions? I am thouroughly stumped. Also the power and reset buttons don't work no matter what configuaration I put the front panel connectors in. The Power LED is lit up and it doesn't work and the reset light is off and it doesn't work.
Also noticed one of my fans connected to one of the two other fan pins on the motherboard isn't working.
    What a nightmare.
