P67-GD65, change Turbo multipliers in BIOS for overclocking

Hi,
Here are my specs
Intel Core i5 2500k
MSI P67-GD65 B3, Bios 1E
8GB Corsair ram
I have read a lot on guides and other forums on how it is possible to keep the base multiplier, i.e. at 33 and to go into the CPU features part in the Overclock menu and change the core limit for Turbo multipliers so that the over clock comes into effect when turbo kicks in. As yet, though I haven't been able to pull it off. I have changed the multipliers and increased the watts given in the menu. But still in windows the CPU only goes up to 34 multiplier. Even when I set the multipliers to a relatively tame 40.
Am I missing something here. Is this sort of thing not possible in the new BIOS, because all the guides and topics have referee to old or beta BIOS. Bt I don't want to start flashing them all and screw something up.
So any help will be appreciated. Thanks in advance

http://forums.overclockersclub.com/index.php?showtopic=183670
Please check down below where he shows how he over clocked using turbo, "Latest Successful Attempts using Speedstep Turbo overclocking"
That's basically what I am aiming for. I will be over clocking through the BIOS, I want to leave the base multiplier at 33 which is default for my processor and over clock by changing the turbo multipliers.
I have tried an older BIOS, 1.9. In it using the instructions provided I have been able to do what he mentioned and with prime95 my clock speed runs at 40x.
I'm trying each BIOS to see which one essentially killed this feature. Because in later BIOS this doesn't work and for some reason the turbo multiplier cap seems to be fixed at 60.

    This is not possible.
The shared memory is assigned automatically and this is controlled by graphic card driver.
But the shared memory is only in use if the applications (i.e game) would require more graphic RAM.

  • Which BIOS for Overclocking a P35 Platinum

I bought the P35 Platinum based on the positive reviews of performance and overclocking ability.  Reading through the forums, it's not clear which is the most stable version (other than 1.0) to get to the performance numbers I have seen.  Also, some reviewers mention versions like P03, VP.0B4 (assume a beta, but 1.4?), etc.  What versions are they referring to?
I was thinking of moving to 1.1 or 1.6. I know the "if it ain't broke...", but I want to overclock and don't think the 1.0 BIOS will get the results I am looking for:

  • [AMD] Whats the best BIOS for overclocking on the K8N Neo-2 Platinum

any one know which one is best.
    thanks

I have no idea what biosversion that is the best in general for OC the K8N Neo2 P.
I use 1.5 and it´s the only version I´ve used.
I believe not many people have tested OC potential for all 6 versions 1.0 - 1.5.
( even more if you include the beta´s).
I would say OC potential depends more of what hardware you are going to use.
Good RAM and a good CPU stepping are in most cases more important then biosversions.

    Hello,
I have two kits of memory:
    2x2Gb 1600 cl7 1.65v (that runs at 1.5v with same latencies 7-8-7-24)
    2x4Gb 1600 cl9 1.5v  (9-9-9-24)
Both kits are Gskill Ripjaws, I have already tried lots of things without any success so far, (relax timings to high values, increase voltage, tried link/unlink, swapped kits from black to blue), I cannot boot with RAM set to 9-9-9-24 (whether 1 or 2T) and 1600Mhz, the only way is to disable XMP and let memory speed to auto.
And so memory is recognized and runs in Windows at around 1310Mhz~1315Mhz with timings 7-7-7-20 (values chosen by me since I cannot use higher speeds).
In case I set memory speed to manual, whether its 1333Mhz or other values I get three long bips and I am unable to boot.

And the fact that they are the troublesome Ripjaws to begin with. Mixing one type of troublesome Ripjaws with another type of troublesome Ripjaws and you end up with double trouble.
I see, despite of the fact Ripjaws are mentioned as compatible, I should avoid them as they mean trouble.

  • MSI P67 GD65 Boot Beep change after bios flash 1H & 1I

    Good evening.
First of all my pc specs:
    - Msi P67 GD65 B3 Revision
    - i5 2500K
    - 2 * 4 gb DDR 3 G.Skill Ripjaws XF3 1600 mhz
    - Sapphire HD 4870
    - Ocz Vertex II 60 Gb (windows 7)
    - Western Digital Blue Caviar 1 tb (storage)
Today I flashed the bios using a bootable pen drive.
Previously I had the 1.9 version and all went perfectly fine. The booting sequence was : 1 short beep, short beeps counting my usb devices and 1 final short high tonality beep.
Now I updated to version 1.I and the beep sequence changed completely: now I have 1 long low tonality beep, short beeps counting my usb devices and no final short high tonality beep . Also it takes some more seconds than version 1.9 before making the beeps!
I tried also versione 1.H (which I have in this very moment) and I experienced the same faulty beep sequence
I also tried to clear c-mos and load optimized defaults but I still have the same beep sequence in both cases.
    What shall I do?
Please notice I never changed memory or cpu settings (no overclock at all)

    Quote
They say do not care about the beeps if the PC could work normally.
Same thing I already told you...
Forgot about those stupid beeps.  As long as the system starts & boots fine, they are not critical error signals to begin with but status signs, that tell you that some things are there.
    Quote
What do they mean by "the new bios should fix some beep error" ? Which bios are the talking about? Maybe the upcoming 1 L version which is going to be released in future?
What they are telling you is that the beep sequence is not something to worry about. That the beeps "lie" so to speak and that you are looking for a meaning that is not there.
    Quote
What beep sequence do you have with 1.C version compared to the two videos I posted ?
It does not matter.  You are getting hung up on beeps even though the system is obviously running just fine.  If the beeps are getting on your nerves, then unplug the speaker from the board and enjoy the silence.
This is a non-issue.  Stop being paranoid.

  • P67A-GD65 (B3) latest BIOS update won't change CPU multiplier

Hello everyone, Before I explain my problem these are the components I'm using.
    Motherboard:P67A-GD65 (B3)
    CPU:Intel 2600k
So just recently I flashed my BIOS to the most recent version which is 4.3. and before this I was running my multiplier at 4.5 with no issues. But now when I change my multiplier programs like CPU-ID and CoreTemp aren't reflecting the changes being made in my BIOS they just show the stock speed the CPU runs at which is 3.4GHz. But then windows shows that the changes have been made so I don't know what to believe. Also in the BIOS screenshot you can see at the top it says my CPU is running at 3.8 GHz You can check out the screen shots to see what I mean. Anyways my question is, Is my CPU really overclocked right now or is Windows lying to me and if it is, how can I fix this?
    BIOS Settings
    Different Reading from the OS

The "Fix My USB Key" process worked. Thanks.
Unfortunately the re-flash of the BIOS to official 4.3 didn't make any difference to the problem.
CPU is still throttling down from 4.5GHz to 3.9GHz as soon as load is applied.
Can you confirm what settings I should have for -
    C1E Support
    Overspeed Protection
    Intel C-State
    Any other ideas?
I do a lot of video encloding work and this throttling is increasing encode times significantly, i.e. from 4-hours to 7-hours.

  • [P67-GD65 B3] Safe way to flash 4.2 official bios and why.

    Hi all!
I am still trying to remedy my problem with too high (~1.43V) voltage while 4.5GHz OC (turbo or not) with "vdroop low" enabled. Now I am on 4.39 and it`s ok on (non turbo/manual x42) 4.2GHz and auto voltage (it`s ~1.288V while Prime, etc). I know that 4.20 official bios gives % vdroop settings. I want to try it to avoid my problem but I can not find 4.20 package ready to go with MSIHQ flasher. Actually all 4.xx MSIHQ versions go from 4.3x.
I am wondering if it is possible just to compress "valcheck.com" with 4.20 official bios file and throw it via Mode 1 to MSIHQ(?)
BTW: Maybe it (flashing 4.20) does not make any sense because "%" vdroop on 4.20 will not give me anything higher then "Auto" voltage settings. I think I need ~1,38V to get stable 4.5GHz. Any other ideas?
I could try manual voltage for CPU but I want to stay with energy saving c-states. I am using C1E with my non turbo OC.
I know You can find my problem a bit boring  but maybe forum's Gurus could give me a green or red light(?)

    Just to report!
Yesterday I finally tried to down-flash from 4.39 to 4.20 with MSIHQ. Risk taken  Happily it was success!
But boy ... I should read carefully comments about 4.20 bios (grammar lost). I did not know that on this bios 100% vdroop is not ... How to say it? It is not 100% of "vdroop low" but rather 100% of "vdroop auto". So it not helped me with my main problem. I am now back to 4.39 beta bios.
BTW1: After some tests, I found that while on CPU voltage on "Auto" my CPU max voltage is ~1,29V (never more, it stabilize more or less from x40 multi CPU) while stress testing. Switching to "Low vdroop" I get above 1.4V just from x40 multi. Something is not right. It goes up with higher multi.
I tried to workaround this by Control Center. Switched to lower multi in bios, switched vdroop to "low" (voltage was OK and below the 1,4V line while stress testing) and then bump up multi in CC. Guess what ... Voltage was also bumped to the same (too high) values.
BTW2: I started to think that above problem may be my fault. From start with my P67-GD65 I experimented with OC Genie and maybe I switched some values or even reseted CMOS while using OC Genie (I know that was warning about it). I don't know, but maybe it damaged something and my motherboard behaves like this for good :/
I think that it is the end of my experiments. Bios 4.20 (% vdroop) was my last resort, but it failed.
Big thanks for all that tried to help me . It started 07-April-12:

I have to stay on x42 with ~1.288 voltage or go above x45 with more than 1.43V.

  • Turbo multiplier MSI P67A-GD65

Dear users of the MSI forum. I hope this question hasn't been asked before, I did search but found nothing.
Is it possible to adjust the so called "Turbo Multiplier" on the MSI P67A-GD65 motherboard in combination with the i7 2600k processor? For example: lets just say I want the standard 3.4GHz - 3.8 GHz turbo boost set to, shall we say, 4.0GHz - 4.5Ghz? Is this possible on this board? I have only seen this feature on Gigabyte and Asus motherboards, unfortunately not with MSI.
If the MSI motherboard doesn't have this function, do you miss it?

This thread may be of assistance regarding that; https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=146272.0

  • Unable to change CPU or Turbo multipliers in UEFI - FM2-A85XMA-E35

    FM2-A85XMA-E35 UEFI 2.1
    A10-6800K Richland
Right now, the CPU Base Frequency, CPU multiplier, Turbo multiplier, and all Voltages in UEFI do not change. It seems as if these settings are locked.
It is possible to change these settings inside Windows, using MSI Control Center or AMD OverDrive.
However, I want to change the multipliers before Windows boot, for the purpose of Linux testing.

I was trying to change the settings by double-clicking with the mouse. This works for many of the settings, but not for other settings.
+/- keys works. Problem solved. That was easy. Thanks.

  • Ivy BIOS For P67A-GD65-GD55-GD53 [MS-7681] Mainboards

    Ivy support for P67 GD65 is now available. I have personally tested it. It is genuine. Recommend to use the DOS method, and please, follow the instructions carefully;
    >> Ivy Support <<

Yes. Click BIOS II is incorporated. Yes, the UEFI/BIOS System Information shows the ME version. Currently, yes, a Sandy is installed. The answer is yes, it was worth it. For flashing, I used a standard bootable USB stick (not the forum method or forum key), in the DOS mode. I strongly recommend the Windows method 'not' be used. I see lower CPU voltages being needed for the same clock speeds.
    Quote
Has anyone read the manuall? It says on p15 (update under dos): "2.  Extract the file into a USB pen drive."
How to do this? Double clicking on the file wants to update the bios on the next restart (after clicking yes) and there's no option to "extract" anything?
    @HU16E
How did you flash this under dos and how did you "extarct" whatever is in there?
I just followed the guide information. Just unpacked everything & placed the unpacked BIOS file out of the unpacked BIOS folder & placed it on the USB stick. Typed the BIOS file name exactly as it shows when prompted, let it do it's thing. Just don't pull out the USB stick too early. You will end up with a bricked board. After install is over in DOS method, just double clicked on the unpacked driver package & it auto installed everything.
