P67A-G43 reducing multipliers under load
I did a quick search of the forums, so apologies if this has been addressed, however:
I am running a P67A-G43 with the latest 1.12 (1C) bios in conjunction with a 2500K processor. When manually overclocking my machine through the UEFI interface, whenever I apply a full load to processor in instances such as Prime95, I can visibly see my multiplier pull back to 46x in CPUz and then cap itself there.
So far as I can tell, there are no ostensible parameters in the bios for speed/power limitting of the processor, so what gives, and how I do get around this issue?
Everything is happy @ 4.6ghz/2.8v's right now and torture test temperatures just crest the 60c mark. I've played around with C1E, Turbo Boost, and many other settings, but it all results in the same outcome -- partial load on 4 cores will allow 4.6ghz+, full load and it caps itself at a 46x multiplier.
Thanks in advance.
OK, I goofed, sure enough there is *one* extra field on the overclocking menu that you have to scroll down one tick to see
-overspeed protection: off
-power technology: off
-C-state: off
---IF I enable C-state, then I get the option to set the package C-state limit: c0, c2, c6 and then no limit
So not accustomed to these new UEFI's.
EDIT:
Turbo boost MUST be enabled to get the Long duration power limit (200w), Long duration maintained (1000ms), short duration power limit (250w), and then primary tubo power limit (0). For some reason, it won't let me adjust these values, especially the primary turbo power limit, where 0 = minimum. It's also a bit peculiar because when I have turbo boost disabled, the processors still dynamically scale.
EDIT 2: figured out how to change those values. In MSI's great wisdom they elected to make you manually key in the values you want... unlike anywhere else in the UEFI and no mention of it in the manual. Right now I have the above values set to 200/1000/250/255 <- max. Still cuts the mult. back to 46x

First PC Build: MSI P67A-G43 - Can't Boot From Windows 7 DVD
MB: MSI P67A-G43

CPU: Intel i5 2500K
I just built my first PC. In the BIOS I had it set to boot first from my DVD drive that has a 64-bit version of Windows 7 loaded. No matter what I tried, I received the message: "Reboot and Select Proper Boot Device"
So I have been on the phone with technical support, and they suggested I download a driver update, which I found HERE.
I have tried installing both the driver and the BIOS updates, but every time it says that the boot from the pen drive failed and to check the USB drive and ROM.
I've looked for answers all over the web, but the only ones I find assume that you've previously had Windows installed. This is a first boot though, and I really don't know what to do next. Can anyone help with this?
thanks! If anyone would like to take a look at these OC settings that are default with my board as to a reason why it wouldn't be booting from the DVD drive or accepting the RAM, I would appreciate it.

P67A-G43 B3 1 long 2 short post beep
From the troubleshooting guide:
Continues beeps or 1long 2short beeps = possible memory error
• Try re-seating memory or test with different memory
1long 2short or 8short beeps = possible video card problem
• Try re-seating video card, test system with known good video card
1 Long, 2 Short A video error has occurred and the BIOS cannot intialize the video screen to display any additional information
I am trying to use a Radeon HD 6870 with a P67A-G43 B3. Is this not possible and do I need a different motherboard?
Additional information:
This is happening during an external build test with only the CPU, Memory, and GPU installed. The CPU is a i5-2500k, the memory is Kingston 4Gx2 KHX1600C9D3K2/8G, the GPU is a Saphire Radeon HD 6870. When I plug in a monitor I get no display information.
This is the VGA test report for the motherboard: http://us.msi.com/file/test_report/TR1_2342.pdf
My GPU is not listed but when I used PCPartPicker I was under the impression that it would only pick compatible parts for my computer. It's looking like I need a different mortherboard but I would like a confirmation.Wow I feel really stupid now. So when I used both of the 6pin power plugs I got a single post beep.
Thank you for all your help now if you have a little more time I wouldn't mind additional help.
When I start it up and successfully get the single post beep, on the monitor it says "CPU or Memory Changed !!!" and says press f1 to run setup or press f2 to load default values and continue.
is this normal? -
New builder: P67A G43 won't POST (I think..)
Hey all, this is my first post, and incidently I'm also building my first pc. I've run into a problem and I don't know what to do! My rig is as follows:
Mobo: MSI P67A G43
CPU: Intel Core i5 2500K
GPU: MSI N560GTX Ti
RAM: 2x4gb Corsair XMS3 (1333)
PSU: Seasonic x650
I have NOT yet installed an OS, as I havent picked one up yet.
When I turn on the computer, I get 3 SHORT beeps: the first 2 are the same pitch, the 3rd beep is higher. Right after, the "msi military class II" logo flashes on the screen. Immediately after that, I get the following message: "reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media...etc,etc". I can enter the bios, however I have to frantically hit the DEL key after turning on the comp, and there is no screen or message that says to do so during the above process. As this is my first build, I'm not well versed on what exactly a POST screen is, or if my specific mobo even has one.
Are these beeps normal? Am I supposed to see a POST screen at some point? I am aware that MSI boards give beeps based on the number of USB devices connected, however I get the same beep code without any USB devices connected.
EDIT: Google has brought me to other threads on this same topic, and it has been suggested that memory could be an issue, or an overheating CPU. When I am in the bios there is a memory test app available, and it indicates that my RAM is fine. As well, the bios indicates that my CPU is running at 32-33C. So I don't think that either of these things is an issue, but Im new and could be completely wrong.1.Pull out video card and RAMs and reinsert carefully, confirming it's not loose. Visually inspect CPU cooler during.
2.Check if you've connected all the power cables to MoBo and Video card. Reinsert them, to confirm tight connection.
3. don't clear CMOS so often
4. no need to manically hit Del button, just wait for the beep, and when you see the keyboard diodes flash, start pressing slowly ~ 2x pre second for example
5. are you sure about the beep code? i haven't heard different pitch beeps before
6. go into BIOS, load defaults, and check all 66 items turn off green power and other exotic enhancements for now
But seriously - all devices should be properly recognized - CPU,RAM, HDD and optics, check IDE/SATA/AHCI settings, temperatures, voltages, boot sequence, integrated peripherals, etc.
Double check CPU clock, multiplier, FSB speed, memory speed and ratio.
7. get a live Linux or Windows CD to boot up the system directly from CD
8. start Aida64 HWMonitor from USB (or what you prefer) to again confirm temps/voltages and FSB, CPU and memory speed... and RAM size/configuration properly recognized
9. Start testing system stability with Prime95 (or else), and be around to watch the temperatures
10. test video card for artifacts. I used AtiTool for mine, not sure what is good for 560GTX?
If fail, start pulling out you components -
one RAM stick out -test again
video card out - test again with Intel's GPU. -
4TB, RAID5, and a P67A-G43. I gotta make it work...
Right now I am creating a new computer setup solely for the purpose of having Windows 7 x64 running off of a single 4TB RAID5 (3X 2TB). I know it's (theoretically) possible, as this board is a UEFI-type board, and there's just no other way for this system to be completed without this RAID setup. I purchased this board with the associated DDR3 RAM and i3-2120 CPU yesterday, set it all up, and can boot normally. I did a test run by installing Windows 7 to a single 2TB HDD in ACHI mode, and followed up with updating the UEFI BIOS to the latest 1B version (2011-04-14 date of release). However, I'm now running into a number of roadblocks.
1. The very first thing I did once I could confirm everything was set up properly was set the SATA connections to RAID mode. Rebooting the computer, I Ctrl-I enter the Intel ROM Option screen. All three 2TB drives are listed, and I go ahead and create a new RAID volume. I choose RAID5 with 64kb clusters, and the max size of roughly 3.7TB is created. Problem is when all is done, the volume under 'Bootable' is no. That's obviously not good. I try anyway to force it by booting a UEFI-optioned Win7 setup disk, convert the volume to GPT and did both an automatic new partition on one try and manually make the EFI, MBR, and the NTFS partitions on another. The full partition of roughly 3.7TB minus the two minor partitions is listed and not broken up or cut-off at 2TB. I get the error along the lines of "Windows cannot be installed to this disc... the selected disk is of the GPT partition style", but I can still select Next and proceed - if I booted the setup disk outside UEFI boot, then I would get a second error and could not proceed. The installation gets to the second to last step without incident (the step where it restarts before Completing Installation), and then once I get back to the UEFI bot option screen, I don't have the option to either select the volume under the Hard Drive listing, nor is it listed under the UEFI boot option listing either. How can I make this RAID5 setup bootable?
2. Frustrated with that, I retested by doing the same thing as above, but this time I intentionally set the RAID5 volume to a size of 1.8TB. This new volume was now listed as bootable, so I proceeded with the Win7 installation. Again, once the second to last step was reached, the computer restarted, and I had to go back into the UEFI boot order screen to make adjustments. This time, the volume was listed under the Hard Drive options, but still not under the UEFI boot options. Either way, I could still not boot from the RAID volume to finish the installation.
I've Googled the known universe trying to figure out how to get this to work, but still haven't found the answer. What I need to know is two-tiered: How can I - with the built in Intel RAID controller - create a bootable 4TB RAID5 volume, and then, how do I successfully install Windows 7 x64 to it? I need to know an answer relatively soon as if it turns out it is not possible, that's fine, but I have less than two weeks to return the motherboard. There is no other way around this - for this specific application a single 4TB RAID5 bootable environment with no other drives or storage is required. And if all else fails and I do have to return this, are there any boards within the same $150 price range that can accomplish this?
Other specs and overview:
The board is a P67A-G43 (B3).
UEFI is at version 1B.
The CPU is a i3-2120.
The Intel ROM Option 'application' is at version 10.0.1.XXX. I believe there is a 10.5.1.XXX version that supports booting >2TB volumes, but don't know how that applies to this board.
The system functions normally when SATA is in IDE or ACHI mode.
I can upload some screenshots as needed after work today.Quote from: Wonkanoby on 22-June-11, 00:42:50

I've been using GPT. That's not the problem. It's the fact that I cannot complete a 7x64 installation on a RAID, combined with the handicap of not being able to create a bootable RAID >2TB - something UEFI, GPT, and 7x64 are specifically designed to do.

Why not use Windows Software RAID?? And boot of an SSD?
Makes you controller independent and it's a lot faster too
Also no >2TB problems.
Because that's exactly what we are not doing for our testing. -
After upgrading a P67A-G43 with BIOS 5.4 in preparation for a 3770k, the existing 2600k doesn't OC.
Setting the CPU ratio in BIOS shows the correct ratio in top right stats and in the ratio setting and, after disabling graphic splash, the correct multiplier is even shown on the POST. However, CPU-Z in the OS and benchmark results show only the stock 3.4.
In normal mode I tried 35, 37, 40, 44. OCG mode has the same problem. Although it show 42, CPU-Z shows only stock.
I can down-clock fine (and CPU-Z shows the correct down-clock ratio), but going above 3.4 is a non-starter.
[SOLVED]
If you disable Turbo, the core limits are not shown in the CPU settings. You have to enable Turbo, set the core limits, and then disable Turbo.Quote
Can I just flash to the 4.1 bios using the pendrive method I used to flash to 4.2??
Yes.

Note: GD65(B3) takes the same UEFI/BIOS version. -
Cache and/or Connection problems under load
I have a Kodo web app that's been running just fine in
production for many months now. However, recently the web
traffic has shot up by a huge amount, literally overnight.
But unfortunately, it's caused the app to fail very ungracefully
under the strain.
It's been a crazy few days, and I haven't been able to do
very much analysis because of higher priorities. But from
what I have been able to gleen, it now looks like Kodo is
the most likely culprit. From what I've read in other messages
here, it appears others may have been experiencing similar
problems.
My environment: Redhat Linux 8, Postgres 7.3.4 with the
included JDBC3 driver, Apache 1.3.x, Tomcat 4.1.x and the
webapp connector. Similar behavior was seen with Apache 2.x,
Tomcat 4.1.x and the JK2 connector (that was on the new machine
I setup to handle the new traffic, which, of course, died the
night before).
As I mentioned, this app has been running reliably for
months with no problems. But when placed under heavy load,
it appears to get into some sort of pathological state where
it slows down dramatically (asymptotically?) to the point where
it's effectively locked up. In one case, where the app was
left running for several hours in this state, requests were
taking 90 minutes to complete (normal is 1-5 seconds).
From what I can deduce, there seem to be four things
going on, three of which have been mentioned in recent threads
here:
1) Excessive memory consumption. When the app is
operating normally, I see fairly flat memory usage for
the JVM process. Under load, the JVM steadily expands
until it hits its heap limit. I've gotten OutOfMemory
exceptions with a heap size of 350MB, which should be plenty.
2) Level 2 cache locking issues. I've seen dozens of
threads waiting on a lock in the DataCache code. Not sure
if there's a deadlock happening here or just that the
threads are waiting on a lock that's being held for a long time.
3) Database Connection leaks or contention. I see threads
spinning in the DataSource code trying to get a connection.
I also see dozens of connections from the Postgres side which
seem to be sitting idle, but in the middle of a transaction.
When things get bad, I also see exceptions being thrown because
of timeouts waiting for a connection to become available. It's
a web app, PMs should not be tied up for more than a few seconds.
4) CPU usage pegged or nearly so for the JVM. I suspect
this is related to #3. Something very bad is going on here.
If I stop all inbound requests to the JVM when it's in this
bad state, it will continue to burn CPU at 90%+ for a very
long time. I think it will eventually finish what it's doing,
but I haven't had the luxury of waiting for it. It's definitely
not a linear slowdown proportional to the load.
Attached are my kodo.properties file and some thread stack
traces along with some comments. Any advice would be greatly
appreciated. This is not a complicated app nor am I doing
anything unusual. It doesn't seem logical that Kodo could
breakdown so dramatically under load, so I'm hoping it's some
sort of interaction thing that I can work around.
Thanks.

"Born with a broken heart" -Kenny Wayne ShepardPlease read prior posts regarding level 2 cache. It is unusable under stress
as far I am concerned. Basically entire cache gets locked on any database
read. Makes it very unscalable
Are you using 2.5.3? It will request a connection from a pool every time it
resolves reference to a PC even if it is cached in PM and therefore Kodo
does not need to read any. As result if you iterate over 100 objects in your
query and for each object resolve reference to another object (always the
same) kodo will request 100 database connections from the pool (and note
they issue rollback on every time they return a connection to the pool so
getting connection might be fairly expensive)
In conjunction with level 2 cache contention this causes application to go
into a stupor.
Try to go back to 2.5.2 (or may be 2.5.4 they promised in the near future
with a workaround) or use "persistent-manager" connection retention if you
discard PM after each HTTP invocation - it will take care of connection
pooling issue. As far as L2 cache I was unable to find any work around so
far - see if you might be better of without cache. You might if your object
graph is not very complex

With cahce enabled, 2.5.3
Here the app had recently slowed down and then effectively locked up.
There where many outstanding web requests that were not receiving output.
At this point most threads seemed to be waiting at the same location.
There were a large number of active database connections and most of
them had open transactions (according to pg_stat_activity). The app
was not responding to any web requests.
It would seem that db transactions had been started, then the thread
got stuck for a long time on a synchronization lock in the cache lookup.
Below are two randomly chosen thread stack dumps.

while running slow, 2.5.3
At this point, the app had been running several hours normally, then
apparently slowed down and locked up while I was away. When looking
at the app threads and database activity, everything appeared idle.
No transactions seemed to be open in the db. But the app was not
behaving normally. Web requests that did not make use of JDO worked
fine (but slow). But requests that hit the db either blocked or were
very slow to respond.
Looking back at the log, there had been a large number of requests
that threw exceptions because they could not get a connection within
five seconds.
Most threads were idle, waiting on read, but some were in the state
shown by the following two stack dumps. Unlike the cache threads above,
they did not seem to be waiting for a lock to be granted, they seemed
to be spinning in the connection management code. Apparently trying
to get a connection. I suspended and resumed the same thread repeatedly
and it always seemd to be doing the same thing. Single stepping was
very difficult because the debugger was slow to respond, apparently
because of other threads also busy spinning.
Postgres indicated that there where lots of connections open and
that they were all idle, so there should not have been a shortage
of connections in the pool. There are two mysteries here: 1) why
can't this thread get a connection? and 2) Why is it busy spinning?

With cache disabled 2.4.3
This run was an accident. I inadvertently ran the app with the older
2.4.3 version of Kodo, with the cache disabled. This one got into trouble
almost immediately. It also seemed to lockup with lots of opentransactions
in the db. It's also interesting that these two threads also seem to be
hanging around the same method as in 2.5.3.

WL server failed to response under load
Hi
We have a quite strange situation on my sight. Under load our WL 10.3.2 server failed to response. We are using RestEasy with HttpClient version 3.1 to coordinate with web service deployed as WAR.
What we have is a calculation process that run on 4 containers based on 4 physical machines and each of them send request to WL during calculation.
Each run we see a messages from HttpClient like this:
[THREAD1] INFO I/O exception (org.apache.commons.httpclient.NoHttpResponseException) caught when processing request: The server OUR_SERVER_NAME failed to respond
[THREAD1] INFO Retrying request
The HttpClient make several requests until get necessary data.
I want to understand why WL can refuse connections. I read about WL thread pool that process http request and understand that WL allocate separate thread to process web request and the numbers of threads is not bounded in default configuration. Also our server is configured Maximum Open Sockets: -1 which means that the number of open sockets is unlimited.
From this thread I'd want to understand where the issue is? Is it on WL side or it's a problem of our business logic? Can you guys help to deeper investigate the situation.
What should I check more in order to understand that our WL server is configured to work with as much requests as we want? Thanks for a good explanation!
Linux server it's not in my competencies but what we have now is:
root soft nofile 3072
root hard nofile 65536
So the upper number is really big. As I understood it's a config for whole processes in operation system.
But I go further and find these numbers for our WL managed server.
cat /proc/23085/limits
Limit Soft Limit Hard Limit Units
Max cpu time unlimited unlimited seconds
Max file size unlimited unlimited bytes
Max data size unlimited unlimited bytes
Max stack size 10485760 unlimited bytes
Max core file size 0 unlimited bytes
Max resident set unlimited unlimited bytes
Max processes 578455 578455 processes
Max open files 8192 8192 files
Max locked memory 32768 32768 bytes
Max address space unlimited unlimited bytes
Max file locks unlimited unlimited locks
Max pending signals 578455 578455 signals
Max msgqueue size 819200 819200 bytes
Max nice priority 0 0
Max realtime priority 0 0
Again it's only a config numbers. If continue moving in this direction I'd want to see the real numbers when the server is under load. So finding these numbers I would make an assumption that the issue is here. Don't you know is there a log file or history file where I can find a max open file descriptors for WL server? -

I recently buyed one of this mother boards and i cant play the COD 2 multiplayer mode, an error message occurs in codmp_s.exe... XP, Vista and 7 always the same problem...

Please provide your full system configuration. >>Posting Guide<<
You can play COD2 in single player mode? If so, then I would think that you have a game set-up problem with the mutli player mode.
Just do a search on the net for that error message and you will see you are not alone. Go to the game manufacturers site and check for game updates. It could also be related to direct X installation.
Hi, i think could be a drivers problem, i just replaced my motherboard and processor only and i never had any problem before...
Cod 2 should run perfectly on Windows XP but i have the same crash problem...

Battery level dropping under load while plugged in
Hi all,
I'm, the otherwise happy owner of a retina Macbook Pro form July 2014 (with a 85w power supply)
I have the issue that, whenever my computer is under load and uses the discrete graphics card, its dropping power - even though the charger was connected.I know the discrete graphics card uses up more power, but honestly it cannot be true that if I play a game in high settings on the macbook (which only has a keyboard, mouse and charger connected in that case), then the battery drops... It cannot sustain itself or what? (I have never experienced this with any other laptop, so I hope for the love of God, this is not what to expect).
Also, just the other day, I was using 2x external monitors (with their own power supplies), and just watching a Twitch (videogame stream) in a browserwindow on one of the screens, and the charge started dropping, even while plugged in again -- it dropped maybe (a wild guess) 10% an hour or so.
The setup there was: I had iMessage open on the screen on the macbook - nothing else; I had a PDF displayed on the first external screen and I had a browser-window open with a video-stream on the second external screen. A mouse, keyboard, powersupply and 2x videooutputs (1x HDMI, 1x DisplayPort), was connected to the macbook at that moment...
I mentioned that I couldnt play anything with high settings, or watch a videostream while using external monitors without draining the battery power to a friend that has had a few macs - he had note experienced it before, and told me to post in here (After we agreed that since the external displays had their own power supplies, they shouldn't be dealbreakers). I'm hoping you can help me shed some light on the issue and help me. If something might need to be sent back to Apple for replacement, I'd rather do it before I personalize it too much.
Thanks alot! Thanks for the answers I see.... A shame since the 85W charger is by my understanding the highest wattage one Oh well, thanks!

hello. maybe someone can help me out. my son got a p67a-g43 motherboard from a classmate in his high school pc class several months ago. the classmate removed the old processor from it before my son got it and my son wants to put a i5-3570k processor on it, but the bios was still at version 1.b, which from what i read is way too old for this processor. i was able to make an interface to talk to the bios eprom with my parallel port and upgrade the bios to 1j, but of course that is not what the processor needs either but i was able to confirm my interface worked because the file i wrote and read back was the same as the original v1.j file.
i dont have an older processor to bring this board up to be able to do a windows bios upgrade to v 5.1 and the kid who my son got the board from sold the processor, and i cant afford to send it off to be upgraded, especially where i can do it myself. what can i do to get a bin/rom version of the v5.1 file so i can write it myself in dos to the eprom???? my son saved up $800 over 8 months to be able to outfit this board to run and i hate to have him wait longer to buy another board. i sent a msg off to msi asking for a non exe version of the bios update, but so far no response. if the exe was extractable on a machine other than the one i am trying to fix it would be no problem, but its not...... i dont have and cant afford an older processor just to fix this board. can anyone help or suggest anything before my son goes and buys another board from a diff manufacturer?my son is in the only computer class in the area but they dont teach the hardware repair/flashing part in the class. they focus more on what to buy and networking, its really a sham. anyway i can program it, i just need the file. as i said the v5.1 file on the msi site is in exe self extracting format. it asks to be on a usb drive. so when i put it on a usb drive in another pc it then says it cant extract cause its the wrong machine. so i cant get the file out of it i need to be able to flash it. if i had the file in would be golden cause i could flash it in no time. i dont understand why msi released it only in a format that will only extract on the machine its meant for? i do understand some people will be careless and run a file not meant for their pc but it sucks for those of us who can do this themselves and cant get to the bin/rom file needed to solve a simple problem. if someone had a copy of the extracted file or had read thier eprom after flashing it with v5.1, my problem would be solved easily.

Why has my mail started storing under Load More Messages. I'm now unable to access my mail messages.
This is my basic, first start, recommended "fix" when these types of weird, unexplained things occur on the iPad. Give it a try. After you reboot, go back to the mail app and see if the messages will load.
Quit the mail app completely and reboot the iPad.
Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Double tap the home button and the recents tray will appear with all of your recent apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner of the app that you want to close. Tap the home button or anywhere above the task bar.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up. -
Dv8315nr drops to battery while plugged in, especially under load
Have the dv8315nr and it keeps dropping to battery while plugged in, especially when the PC is under load, such as games or using CD drive. The power block is ok, it has been tested with other power blocks and the issue still happens. If you unplug the power at the pc and plug it back in, it will (most of the time) go back into a charging state. I sent to hp while under the extended warranty and they sent it back with the diagnosis of "battery was bad, needed new battery".....and it worked ok until just out of warranty then started again.
I don't think it's the battery, since it happens with or without the battery in place (of course it dies completely when the power drops w/o battery in).
Has anyone experienced this and if so, have a method to fix it? I suspect there is a hardware problem with the power supply in the laptop.
This question was solved.
View Solution. It sounds like the beginning stages of a bad power jack. That is the place where you insert the AC adapter into the laptop. The problem is very common and requires that a new jack be installed. Fortunately for you, the dv8000 has the power jack as a separate plug-in module...it does not require soldering just removal and replacement.
Here is an internet ad for a company that does the repair. I am not suggesting you hire them but they do post some nice pictures of the internal workings of the dv8000 series so you can understand what I am writing about. The repair job is only modestly hard; not nearly as bad as if soldering were needed. The part is readily available.

X220 - What's your CPU temp under load?
Running SC2 for a few minutes and my CPU was sitting at 92 C consistently (i5 2520). Yikes!
What temperatures are you getting under load?
43C idle.no not really, it seems the problem only came after the recent BIOS update. I will have a look at this issue when i have more time on my hand.
When running on battery saver mode, the temperature drops to 45 degrees, which is good as this is the setting i use most of the time.
P.S. The ambient temperature in Australia is more than 30 degrees celsius, so that could also contribute to the issue of overheating.

JDK 1.3.1_08 Under load on linux (RH7.3)
I have been running JDK 1.3.1 on linux under a development environment for quite a long time (2+ years) without issue, running a large Java application cinsisting of EJBs, and Web apps being run by BEA Weblogic. In an effort to cut costs we are migrating to linux for our production systems.
During the testing phase of running our applications on a dual-SMP Xeon based server with 2 GB of RAM we had no issues. However under load the java child processes (threads to the JVM) are getting very low priorities (15-19) and have a status of "SN" sleeping, and low-priority. If you run pstack on the PPID of the java processes they seem to be 'stuck' in nanosleep.
Does anyone out there have experiencing running large apps under high load on linux platforms?had no issues. However under load the java child
processes (threads to the JVM) are getting very low
priorities (15-19) and have a status of "SN" sleeping,
and low-priority. Every Linux JVM that I know does not use native thread priorities (nice levels) at all, so if you are seeing child PIDs at the 15-19 range, someone most likely started the JVM at the exact same nice level. How many runtimes do you have running? What are your 5, 10, and 15 minute load averages? Are they under 2.0? Can you start your runtimes at a lower nice level?
Does anyone out there have experiencing running large
apps under high load on linux platforms? The `S' you see w/ ps is not particularly indicative that its stuck in this queue, just may be waiting for IO. Adjust your runtime nice level to 10 and under if your load is high and you have a higher IO priority runtime (as you have a dual-proc system).
