P67A-G45 (B3) and Asus R9270-DC2OC-2GD5

I'm having essentially the same problem as the OP in this thread: https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=175787.0.
In my case, however I have an Asus R9270-DC2OC-2GD5 that I'm trying to get to work in a P67A-G45 (B3).
My current AMI BIOS version is 1.9, which was published in March of 2011.  I suspect, as in the other thread, that the BIOS is probably the issue.
The card should be compatible with my motherboard, right?  If so, does anyone happen to know which version of the BIOS I should flash to.  I would assume the latest official release (1.J) but thought I'd ask just in case.

So any GTX 6xx card will work with my current motherboard?
If that's the case, I'll probably go with a GTX 660, as it's extremely close to the AMD card in terms of price and performance.
I've never felt that my homebuilt machine has been absolutely 100% stable, and though I've always suspected that it may just be my current AMD Radeon HD6850 not playing well with the rest of my setup, I would nevertheless feel a little wary of flashing the BIOS.

  • P67A-G45 (B3) and Wake Up Events

    Hello all,
I can't seem to get my system to resume from sleep properly in the desired methods.
    I am running Windows 7 Ultimate x64.
I need to be able to wake by Keyboard and LAN (Magic Packet) as well as OS Scheduled Tasks (Event Timers).
I can't seem to have both currently though...
If I set the BIOS to Wake Up on BIOS events and enable keyboard/mouse/PCI/etc, it resumes from LAN/Keyboard perfectly.  But Timers set in Windows don't work at all (I use Media Center to record TV shows).
If I set the BIOS to Wake Up on OS events, the Timers set in Windows work perfectly, but LAN/Keyboard have no effect (I can push the Power Button on the chassis though).
I really need both as I remote in to my computer frequently and need to be able to send the LAN event as well as have it wake itself to record shows and such.
Am I missing something?  All my other PC's have always done this just fine.
    Thank you for any assistance.

Are there other P67A boards that support both?
Not that I am aware of. The B2, B3, & the new Z68 tested here are either BIOS or OS. Recommend opening a ticket with MSI Tech Support & ask them if a custom BIOS is possible to enable both; http://support.msi.com

  • Overclocking p67a-g45

    Hello, everyone,
I'm just assembled my new 2500k/p67a-g45 system, and I was looking forward to attempting OCing for the first time. According to all the guides, I should change the CPU voltage but there is no option to change it in the BIOS. Does anyone have this MB, and could they possibly point me to a solution? The BIOS version is latest - 1.E0. Thanks!

In a situation that a mainboard has no other option than the Auto (default) setting for CPU V., & a BIOS update is not offered to enable such a feature, then all one can do is OC to the highest multi that can be set that it will remain stable under load.

Hello folks, I just replaced an MSI P43-C51 LGA 775 Intel P43 ATX Intel Motherboard, with an MSI P67A-G45 (B3) and an I5 2500k, running everything at default settings, the p-43 board gave me good service but one day, I turn the computer on and it didn't do anything, since LGA 775 boards are getting hard to find I went ahead and got the P-67, the issue I have is the same high temperature on TMPIN02, before I took the heatsink off the temp was getting up to 203c I couldn't believe the board didn't fail at that time, I went ahead and remove all 3 heatsinks (the ones around the CPU socket also) and inspected for thermal grease, well I noticed that it looked like chewing gum and that it was solidified and that there was very little coverage on the actual chip. I went ahead and cleaned the old stuff and used Arctic Cooling paste I keep in my tool bag, put it all together and fire it up the NB temp drop to (idle) 50c which is a lot better under load it goes up to 65-70c I have moved the video card to the second pci-e slot to see if more air will flow in the NB area but then 3 of the 4 SATA connectors are covered up by it, I also adjusted the rmps of the front fan (200mm) but is not making a big difference, so I'm really happier with the results but not entirely happy, my brother is going on his 3rd motherboard (MSI) first one would not boot, second one no video output to monitor I'm not sure if I want to consider MSI products in the near future. I have been a loyal MSI customer for many years. I would appreciated any comments to this post I know is a little old.

Ok ive built many computers in the past, but this is the first one ive had that either runs two post or is experiencing an issue.  It starts on boot and about 10 seconds later it gives two rapid beeps, and about 3 seconds later a normal POST beep.  Its currently running an initialized ubuntu server, and it seems fine, but i have nnot had a chance to do any sort of setup or config yet.  I just didnt know with the new click bios if this was normal, or is something causing it an error which it is recovering from?

its a single boot system, and the bios says theres 2 usb hubs and 1 mouse, but it still gives 2 beeps even if theres an additional usb cd/dvd drive plugged in as well.  Ive gone with msi for every graphics card ive ever purchased, but this is my first mobo with them.  Ive never had anything like this occur with the asus or gigabyte boards ive used.

where in the manual says that? cant find it.
    Excerpt from manual;
    Important
DDR3 memory modules are not interchangeable with DDR2, and the DDR3 standard
is not backwards compatible. You should always install DDR3 memory modules in
    the DDR3 DIMM slots.
In Dual-Channel mode, make sure that you install memory modules of the same type
and density in different channel DIMM slots.
To ensure a successful system boot-up, always insert the memory modules into the
    DIMM1 first.

does this mobo even support 1600mhz ram without overclock? i choosed it because i was told it could  i mean, if i put 1600mhz rams, will it be that speed directly or must i change some settings first? if so, which settings?
The thought process is not quite correct. The mainboard specifications say it will support up to 2133 OC right? It is the CPU IMC that only natively supports DDR3 1333 speed. Anything over 1333 is overclocking pure & simple. If the RAM is 'properly' programmed, it should default & work without having to change any settings.

  • P67A-G45 3T drive only formatting to 746Gig

    P67A-G45 3T drive only formatting to 746Gig
Converted partition to GPT, still 746Gig.  Saw other posts for firmware update to UEFI, but could not find that in my downloads for this motherboard.  About a year ago I updated my BIOS, and Live 6 Utility says that my system is up to date.  What am I missing?  Thanks for your help.

Thanks, yes I read that.  It was one of the few concise posts on the issue.  Once you got to the Intel site to get the driver.  Intel tells you"
    "IMPORTANT:
Before installing this application or requesting technical support from Intel, first contact your system manufacturer. They typically provide software which is specifically configured for your system. "
MSI has been updating other drivers even those that are from Intel.  Why is MSI not seeming to endorse the use of this driver?
    Thanks for your help?

  • What to do with bricked motherboard? MSI P67A-G45 AFTER FLASHING LAST BIOS

I flashed MSI P67A-G45 by the last BIOS for IB CPU. The flashing goes twice with intermediate reset. Before I flashed P67A-C43 by the same version from MSI, and all was Ok.
I flashed new BIOS from version 1I under DOS mode. There was a problem with pen drive and I used hard disk without USB pen drive. That was my error. The exe file started and flashed BIOS  normally and then after reset started flashing Intel ME firmware. I thought all is going ok and the image is taken from HDD. But after the process finished and motherboard reset, it didn't start at all. The fan starts and stops, LED blinks and motherboard behaves the same way even without CPU. What can I do? Is there any way, suppose, using a EEPROM writer? I have one and I can take the BIOS chip off and flash by old version of BIOS. What can You advise? Maybe the second flash process writes another chip - can You tell me about it. Please advise how to manage this problem.
I received no help from support. I'm not a novice - I work in repair center and have soldering station etc. Can You explain me anything about second flashing process? I need only information and I will be able to manage th :lol_anim:is problem.

Problem: Within days of building computer in January the computer started to automatically reboot seconds after shutdown or entering sleep mode.
    Attempted Fixes:
-Total re-install of Windows + BIOS
    -Updated BIOS via LiveUpdate
-Rolled back to initial BIOS that came with MB
-Changed between registry option of "PowerdownAfterShutdown" between "0" and "1"
    -Disabled Wake-Up Events in BIOS
-Changed to OS controlled Wake-Up events
-Changed "Restore after AC Power Loss" to off in BIOS
-Ordered a new PSU, replaced PSU
Regardless the fix, if I try to shutdown - the computer reboots within a few seconds.  If I try to put it in sleep mode, it boots right back up.  The only way to get the computer to shut off is by manually turning off the PSU.
I've seen that there have been frequent power-cycle issues with this particular motherboard in comments on newegg.com, just wondering if this issue has been encountered and if there is a fix available?

Is this with no case wire connections to any of the headers? i.e. if you start it by shorting the on/off pin headers with a screwdriver tip.
    Yeah, as shown here.
    http://www.computer-how-to-guide.com/motherboard-troubleshooting/motherboard-post-test-how-to/
Shorted on with flathead, boots up fine.  After flipping off the PSU to turn it off and then flipping the PSU back on, the dang thing waits a few seconds and boots right back up.  No short required.  At this point I think a ghost might be living in my computer.

  • Unable to update P67A-G45

    Hello all,
I have been running my P67A-G45 (B3) based system for over a year now with no issues. Every few months I check MSI's site for BIOS updates and have been flashing via the HP Flashdrive utility.   Ive used this method several times with no errors.
Im currently running BIOS 1.12 dated 7-22-2011 and I want to update to version 1.I
When I run the flash (booting into DOS via flash drive) I get the following error:
"ROM file ROMID is not compatible with existing BIOS ROMID"
Is there something im doing wrong? or is the MSI website linking to the wrong BIOS?

This is weird. If you mentioned that you update your BIOS every few months, your last BIOS version should be version 1.H dated 13-01-2012.
For the board, P67A-G45 (B3), there was never an official BIOS of 1.12 dated 7-22-2011, the only two BIOS versions that were available between April to October were version 1.B dated 14-04-2011, and version 1.D dated 04-10-2011.
Check this link for all P67-G45 (B3) BIOS and release dates > http://www.msi.com/product/mb/P67A-G45--B3-.html#/?div=BIOS
I suggest you double check your board details again.

and do you really think 512mb and 1gb modules were tested on this P67 board?
Just posted a link to the modules list, nothing more. Made no recommendations & made no other assumptions. Selections & decisions are yours & yours alone.
Here is a suggestion however. Never a blanket guarantee, but I have yet to have the Corsair GT series fail to properly default or not work on any board I have tested. Whatever you purchase, make sure it properly defaults to the platforms IMC specs for DDR3 1333, 9 9 9 xx @ 1.50v's + or - 0.075v's. Plain stick, fancy heatspreaders doesn't matter. Compatible SPD profile programming does matter.

So my bad...there is an Intel Turbo Mode setting under the OC tab.  It was enabled and I tried to disable it.  No change...
So then I started turning off C1E and C-State stuff.  That only made it worse.  According to CPU-Z the CPU was getting full voltage all the time.  At least with C1E/C-States enabled the voltages will back off with no load on the CPU.
The Win 8 Task Manager is very strange.  It is showing the frequency bouncing around 3.3-4.2 while CPU-Z shows it hard locked at 4.2  I am not sure what the Task Manager is using for its calculations.  But even the Task Manager hard locked at 4.2 with everything disabled.
I have the same board (P67A-G45) and I am having the same problem.  When I set the multiplier in the BIOS, the CPU will bounce between 3.3GHz and whatever I set the multiplier to.  I am running the V1.18 BIOS.  With Windows 7, I could set the multiplier to whatever I wanted, enable C-States, and the CPU would throttle down to 16x without any issue or any interaction from me.
You can use ThrottleStop to check the multiplier more accurately then CPU-Z.  Also in ThrottleStop, you can click "Set Multiplier" -> "Power Saver" -> "Turn On" and the CPU will run like a champ at 16x multiplier, so its definitely possible.  This 16x get reported in CPU-Z and in the Windows Task Manager as well.  Once you disable Power Saver, its back to 33x + multiplier land.
I hope a solution to this will be found, seems really silly to install a new OS and have CPU multiplier issues...

No, the only LED's on your motherboard are the CPU Phase LED's and they should not come on without any power being provided to the board. The LED's are located at the top of your motherboard. This info is provided in your MSI motherboard manual.
I take it you are still unsure whether it's your power supply or your mobo that is defective? How about sharing what steps you have taken in the process of elimination so we may help you troubleshoot your problem.
