P67A-GD53 (B3) Boot problem

Hi Folks.
I just built a new machine using this motherboard, but when it boots I see 98, 99, and A3 appear in the bottom right of the screen. Around the 98 and 99 time, I also heard 1 long followed by 2 short beeps. The machine then boots to Windows 7, and appears to be fine.
I have tried everything i can find on this forum, but no clue what these codes mean and how to resolve the problem.
I am using a 600w PSU, Intel i5 2500k cpu, 8gb Corsair vengance ram, 3 sata hdd's, 1 sata blu-ray, and a Zotac GeForce GTS 450 1gb.
Does anyone know what the codes mean, and how i might resolve the problem?
Thanks,

The PSU is a Seagate SS-600HT Active PFC F3
cheers.
Don't you mean Seasonic? Seagate makes hard drives.
Mine has a B4 between the 98-99, anyway it boots to Windows just fine after A3 so therefore I'm not going to make a problem out of nothing.

  • P67A-GD53 (B3) Boot Problems

Hello all, having a problem with my computer that I believe is to do with the motherboard and could use any input, I downloaded the latest bios for the mobo and flashed from a usb while in windows, it finished and restarted the system, after the boot it updated the ME and restarted again, this time it didn't boot it just would turn on for 2/3 seconds and then turn off and then the same thing again, the power as in the fans/noise seems to come on nothing appears on screen then after 3 seconds it goes off, kinda a stop start loop, ive already tried taking out the coin battery, resetting the cmos, using each of the ram sticks in turn, without the hard disk and with another graphics card.
I know (atleast now) that people advise to update the bios in a boot process or something but I was just impatient and tried from windows, so i accept that ive seriously frelled up and its my fault here, can this actually be fixed, or is the mobo bricked and this is a excuse to upgrade, maybe a Z77A-G45 witha i5-3570k (i can atleast get something outa this... ).
Any advice, suggestions is greatly appreciated, thanks in advance

    CPU: Intel i5-2500K
    RAM: Crucial Ballistix BLS2CP4G3D

    1. Flashed in a Windows environment instead of the SOP described DOS procedure.
    2. Flashed an Ivy update.
    3. Flashed for what specific purpose?
Lecture over! Options are to take the system to a pc shop that has an SPI flash programming device, or send the board to an MSI Service Center. If no intention of ever installing an Ivy CPU, DO NOT have the board flashed to an Ivy support UEFI/BIOS.

  • P67A-GD53 slow booting

    Hi
Just built a new PC as follows
    P67A-GD53 (s) mobo
    Intel i5 2500k (unclocked)
    Cooler Master 212 hyper plus
    8mb crucial vengence ram
    64gb SSD (op system)
    1tb Samsung HDD
    Win 7 home premium
The system appears to be running OK and it boots in around 15 secs but the issue is that intermittently it is slow to boot.  I will get a black screen with B4 on the bottom right and it may stay here for a minute then it will show the military class II screen and then onto Windows.  Then other times it will boot in 15 secs.  I don't think its a Windows issue as I don't think it would have started loading the operating system at the point where it is slow.
    Any pointers would be appreciated.
    Regards

Just resurrecting this thread.  I sent the m/b, ram, cpu back to the vendor and they tested it OK.  When I got it back I assembled everything apart from the SSD/CDROM/HDD and the issue was there.  But disconnecting the internal card reader (which plusgs into the USB header) the PC boots everytime into a Shell screen.  As soon as you plug it back in it sometimes hangs with B4 in the bottom corner.  If I plug the case panel USB to the header then that boots everytime as well so this suggests an issue with the card reader (so I thought).  The vendor sent a new card reader, plugged it in and same issue with the intermittent hanging  .
Now I am out of ideas as the vendor has tested the board OK, they have sent replacement part and the issue is still there.  The option is to send the MB with the card reader back to the vendor for testing.
I am reading a lot of threads with the B4 issue.  Is this a m/b or device issue?

  • P67A-GD65 (B3 )boot problems

I've built my box around mid-December (2011) and ever since, I've experienced the same issue as well.
The very first time it happened, I ran the repair tool, but just like others said, it could not repair it. I DID NOT have have MSI control center installed for the first few weeks and yet the random reboots at the windows logo still happened, so I'm certain it is NOT an MSI control center issue (at least in general).
Yes, it is very hard to pinpoint, just like others said. Most of the time it boots just fine. On those rare occasions (maybe once every 20-40 boots) I just let it reboot automatically and then it's all fine.
I'm NOT an overclocker at all, so I have everything set as it is out of the box and aside from this random, occasional reboot everything works fine.
I don't remember which bios version originally I had, either 1.C/D/E, but I upgraded to 1.G and it still does it, and did before the bios upgrade. Currently 1.E is the latest which I don't have.
    MSI P67A-GD65 (B3)
    Intel i7-2600K Sandy B
    G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 16GB (4 x 4GB) F3-10666CL9Q-16GBRL
    ADATA S510 Series AS510S3-120GM-C SSD
    Nvidia GeForce GTX 275
    Win 7 x64 Ultimate

Ok, so I just want to recap on this issue. It seems my machine is stable now.
I have reinstalled windows about 4-5 times this week, trying to test what the problem might be. Wasn't sure if it's a driver, the service pack (1) or maybe the order of installation messed something up. So I wanted to start clean the various installations/testing. None helped.
So I noticed there was a new BIOS update available with v 1.I (dated 01/12/2012). As a side note, I don't understand why they post version numbers with letters (A, B, C, D, etc) but in the BIOS or in other programs, such as CPU-Z, they report the version number with numbers. Anyhow.
So I installed this BIOS. That didn't solve it either. But while I was running the OS, I noticed my BIOS LED is flashing, so my primary BIOS failed. It still booted and ran fine. I just didn't understand why did the primary BIOS failed since the BIOS update tool (downloaded from this forum, reported the flash was successful.)
I cleared the CMOS, reset the BIOS to default values, installed windows 7 ultimate x64 using AHCI and IDE mode. None made any difference. Still experienced random reboots at the Starting Windows screen (but it rebooted only once - consequent reboots were fine).
So I used the dual BIOS to re-flash the primary with the secondary. The secondary had BIOS v 1.11 (dated 04/20/2011). So now I'm running this version. Lo and behold (and also knock on wood) I don't have any random reboots so far. That's about 5 days now.
So I want to close this thread by saying, that it seems there was some issue with the new BIOS releases (I only used 1.G and 1.I) but reverting to the original one (which is in the secondary BIOS - 1.11) makes my machine ran stable without random reboots - so far.
I think this is how I'm going to leave it. This works. As they say, if it ain't broken don't fix it, so this is the BIOS version I'll stick with.
    Long live the King!

  • P67a-gd53 wont boot after live update

my computors been fine for the last 12 months but for some daft reason i downloaded live update 5 last night and set it off
today the computor was on when i came to it (after i turned it off last night)
    blank screen
i pressed reset and it started looping initial boot
comes on 2 beeps waits a few seconds fans running and shuts off
few seconds later and it repeats
comes on 2 beeps waits a few seconds fans running and shuts off
all 6 aps leds are on during the boot
im guessing something in the live update has killed my motherboard?

Try pulling the PSU power cord, removing the battery for awhile, clear CMOS. If it will then get to the UEFI/BIOS screen, reset and see how it goes. If the OS was loaded under AHCI, be sure to remember to set the SATA controller mode again and also set the correct boot order.
Added: And remove Live Update from your computer.

  • MSI P67A-GD53 (B3) Boot loop after BIOS update

    Hi,
I've just updated my BIOS to 7681v42 from an earlier version (can't remember which one exactly) and after the update I am stuck in a boot loop. The computer turns on for about 5 seconds or so and then switches back off, the CPU fan, motherboard fan & video card fan spin for a few seconds then power is cut.
I've tried booting up with nothing else connected (no vga, memory, hdd, empty USB slots) to no avail. I have tried resetting the CMOS as well but I don't get any further than the reset loop.
Can anyone suggest something? Is there any way to force the MB to use the backup BIOS?
    Thanks in advance.

You can try doing this again with a single stick of ram or some different ram, but more than likely you will need to rma the board for re-flashing.

  • MSI p67a-gd53 (b3) Wont boot with ram in slot 1 and 3, or 2 and 4.

Hi i recently built my own system, with just one ram stick in it boots fine and everything.
When i try to put the other stick in slot for so that in runs dual channel it just wont boot, it turns on starts the fans up and then just goes off, and repeats this.
The ram i have is Corsair Vengeance Low Profile 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit.
It also doesnt work in slots 2 and 4, can anyone help me :(?
    My setup is :
OCZ ZS Series 650W '80 Plus Bronze' Power Supply
Intel Core i5-2500K 3.30GHz (Sandybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor - Retail
    MSI P67A-GD53 Intel P67 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard
MSI ATI Radeon HD 6870 OC HAWK 1024MB
    Corsair Vengeance Low Profile 4GB
    Seagate Barracuda 500gb HD
Gets no beeps on boot with just one stick in, im really confused :s
    All Help will be appreciated.

Both ram sticks worked in slot one and it would boot but I tried running a game and it froze each occasion, cud this be due to the ram being dual channel and only having one in? Or that the ram has the wrong settings.
I have returned the motherboard along with the ram to the shop i got it from for tests to see if the dimm slots had problems. Il let you guys know what they say.
Thanks for the advice, when I get it back il build it again and see if it runs fine, if not il try the things youve said.
Can anyone else shed any light on this? Any other things I may have to try?
    Thx again

  • Help, P67A-GD53 B3 won't boot

    Hi,
    Please help
Had my p67a-gd53b3 for a few months now. About 2 months ago, it wouldn't boot with 2 sticks of corsair vengeance DDR3 1600. Too fix this I removed one, booted no problem.
Today nothing, no boot. No error messages, all 7 power LEDs light, reset CMOS, rebuilt Pc.
Strange thing I don't even have a error with no ram installed.
I am thinking its either the mobo is gone, or could be the PSU. RAM is on order anyway.
Any ideas or pointers would be great!!!

In the manual it states you can press the CMOS reset button and the system should restart. It doesn't do this but I have done it and no luck
Another symptom is the monitor seems to get a signal but displays nothing. Pointing to the GPU
I don't have anyother computers available to me. So I can't remove and test, I will have to buy new ones and check that way. I ve also done a rebuild with the new ram but again no luck

  • MSI P67A-GD53 (B3) in boot cycle before POST

OK, so I purchased a new Motherboard, CPU and RAM today to complete my upgrade. Having installed everything, I hit the power button, machine turns on... then off after about 4 seconds, before POST, then on again, then off again, repeat ad nauseum until I unplug or flick the power switch on the PSU.
I took everything apart again, put the MB onto of the box (to rule out the chances of it shorting on the case) and plugged in the power, with just the CPU (and fan) and RAM in place. Same thing happens. Tried taking out the RAM, exact same thing.
Nothing has been done to any part yet, this is all out of box spec:
    MSI P67A-GD53 (B3)
    Corsair XMS3 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9  (CMX4GX3M2A1600C9)

    Intel i5 2500K 3.30GHz (Sandybridge) Socket LGA1155
Obviously I've got graphics card, HDDs etc, but none of those are plugged in, for the purposes of troubleshooting. All that's connected is the above. I've tried booting with no RAM installed, same thing happens. I've got access to an old internal 2 pin speaker, scavenged from a buggered HP work PC to try and get a beep code, but I can't see where I'd connect it on this MB.
Is the MB fluffed out of the box, or could it be something else? Any help would be greatly appreciated

It needs to be connected to the JFP2-Pin Header (check user manual, page 2-14 for pin definitions).
Just to make sure:  Have you connected the 4/8 pin +12V CPU power connector to the mainboard (in addition to the 24-Pin ATX connector)?
Also:  Have you unplugged your PSU from A/C power and >>Cleared CMOS<< at any point?
Have you inspected the board's CPU socket for bent/broken pins?
Thanks, I'll give that a try.
    Yep
    Yep
I've eye-balled it but they're pretty small, so it's hard to tell, but it'd be pretty difficult to bend them as the CPU only fits in one way.

  • P67A-GD53 (B3) sometimes fails to boot in to Windows 7

I'm having a really frustrating time setting up  a new PC and wondered if anyone had any suggestions.
Spec is as below. The motherboard shipped with bios 1.B and when I first booted up I couldn't get in to any OS at all. I tried to install Windows 7 32 & 64 bit, Ubuntu 11.04 live CD, the live update from withing the BIOS with the system CD loaded. In all scenarios the process would start but I'd then just get a blank screen or it would stall. Windows for example would load the initial loader but then stall at the little swirly animation.
Eventually I downloaded the updated BIOS 1.D and lo and behold I was able to install Windows which I've now done and been through the lengthy process of driver installation and software setup. Great I thought - for once a BIOS update has worked and I'm home and dry.
I should have known better. Every now and again when I boot the system again stalls when trying to load Windows 7 and again it's at the point where the little swirly animation tries to load. The only way to get access again is to reflash the BIOS with 1.D. I'm then loading the optimal settings, changing to AHCI mode (for performance of the SSD) and enabling the smart fan to quieten things down.
I've checked the G. Skilll site which reckons thate the memory is compatible with the latest BIOS. Temperature shouldn't be an issue at boot time and I'm now tearing my hair out. Anyone any suggestions of some settings to adjust please?

    I would recommend to try some Corsair GT series DDR3 RAM. Those DDR3 1333 rated G.Skills, 9 9 9 24 @ 1.50v's & you have to set command rate to 2?
Maybe I missed it, but does this 'hang' occur when tested with just one stick used in the blue primary dimm slot? Try BIOS v1.C.
    Added:Quote
I followed the guide to clear the CMOS properly, went in the setup and enable AHCI
Can you explain this a little better? You can't set the controller mode to AHCI after the OS has been initially installed unless you go in to the Registry & make the proper changes.
    Added: Additional thought. Quote
I used the Win 7 system restore to put my windows system on to a band new WD hard drive. First time I rebooted it hung in exactly the same way at the windows logo so it's not the Crucial M4 SSD.
If the OS is corrupted & basically cloned on to another HDD, platter or SSD, the exact same behavior might not be such a surprise result.

  • P67A-GD53 (B3) in a boot loop

    Configuration:
    Motherboard: MSI P67A-GD53 B3
    CPU: Intel i5 3570k
    CPU cooler: Freezer 13 pro
    RAM: Corsair Vengeance 2x4GB
    GPU: Gigabyte GT 430
    PSU: Corsair CX600
    HDD: WD Caviar black 1TB
    SDD: OCZ Agility 3 120GB
The build boots, then turns off 4-6 seconds later. It beeps 4 times while doing so. Sometimes, it boots and turns off within 2 seconds without making any sound.
Now I know that the Motherboard requires the 4.1 update to run the i5 3570k properly, but surely they must be a way to update it with this CPU. For the record, the motherboard boots then immediately turns off without the CPU inside. So I need the CPU for it to work and to update it.
I have tried putting a single piece of RAM in every slot one by one and booting, but that doesn't help. Neither does clearing the CMOS. Do I just have a faulty board? Or is this because of my i5 3570k that my mobo doesn't fully support without the update?
Any ideas would be much appreciated.

  • PCI-E slot possibly not working (P67A-GD53)

    Hello all,
New guy here. New MSI customer and everything.
I just built a new PC today with a MSI P67A-GD53. I first plugged in the VGA (a MSI GeForce GTX 560Ti OC Twin FrozR II) to the top PCI-E slot.
On boot, I get what I think is a VGA problem beep code (1 long - 3 short beeps). This happened with 2 different VGAs. I also tried my old XFX 8800 GT.
The computer boots fine when I plug in the MSI VGA to the second (bottom) PCI-E slot.
Does this mean that the top slot is broken? I guess I could try the 8800 at the same time to see if it works when 2 VGAs are plugged in, but I suspect it wont. Should I get the motherboard replaced? I am considering not getting it replaced now since I ordered it from the UK and I live in Cyprus and replacement could take a month to complete (posting overseas). Would that be a bad idea? I fear that if one part of the motherboard is faulty, it could potentially have other problems as well.

are you sure you got the stand offs right under the board
I might have missed a hole, but I definitely didn't leave any old stand-offs that might short the board from underneath.
I'll recheck and add any missing and get back to you.

  • MSI P67A-GD53 (B3) Bios failure?

    Hello everyone,
I am in a bit of trouble, and I'm hoping someone can help me out.  I'd like to say that I've only flashed mobos a few times in the past but never had any problems until now so I'm kinda unsure with what to do.
I was getting some BSOD now and then while playing games and decided to update the BIOS etc to see if that would help fix it.  Well, I flashed from the 1.A bios (2011-03-30) to the latest one from the BIOS menu.  It got to about 98% then restarted and now it just BSOD's over and over, I'm lucky if I can get into Windows, the BSOD's are usually all sorts of different things.  I have tried flashing back to the previous BIOS but no difference - I really hope I haven't killed the board.  I've tried clearing the CMOS - made no difference.  Tried to boot from optical to reinstall Windows but it crashes before I can even get into setup . . . any ideas?

Test a regular hard drive.  Do you get BSODs with that, too?

  • P67A-GD53 question

I setup a new PC with the following parts
    Motherboard: P67A-GD53
    CPU: i5 2500k
    GPU: 470 GTX
    OS: Windows 7 64 Bit
Now if I plug in my 470 GTX in slot E2 windows will freeze shortly after the windows screen, if I plug it into slot E5 it boots up fine.  According to the docs slot E5 is x8 where slot E2 is x16.
Does anyone know what would cause this issue?
    Adam

I did some more tests on this, installed a new version of Windows and installed one driver at a time until the hang happens.  Its definitely the graphics card and it only hangs when its in slot E2.  The card is powered correctly and seems to perform really well in slot E5, but it really confuses me why that would even cause an issue.  Maybe theres a BIOS setting i'm missing somewhere.
It also makes me wonder if theres an actual problem with my motherboard or the GPU.
