P67A-GD55 DDR3 1600MHz?

Hi there, I just bought an MSI P67A-GD55 mobo with 2500K and 2x2GB DDR3 OCZ Gold LowVoltage 1600MHz Cl8-8-8-24 but... I cant run it at 1600/Cl8...it wont even boot.
I tried all the settings and the memory runs just fine at 1866MHz and Cl9-9-9-24 1,66V. No errors at linx, prime and other stuff and the uefi's memory test shows the memory is OK. (uefi 1,7 flashed with a bootable pendrive).
The other problem is when I turn on my pc after a few hours of it being turned off (although I dont cut the power when its off) it wont boot or gives me bsod's like "cache manager..." or "memory management..." and the memory test fails. So i can boot with memory set @ 1333MHz Cl7, then after a reboot I can change the memory setting for 1600 Cl9 and then after another reboot (omg...) I can run it @ 1866MHz Cl9 without any errors again.
Am I doing something wrong? I dont get it...
Do I have to change the ddrVref setting? Its @ 0,8V.
Its a great mobo, my 2500K can run @ 4,8GHz rock solid stable with just 1,25V but...those ddr's are giving me a hard time.

Hi d593562, i use GD55 too, combined with PSD34G1333KH and ocing myram to 1600mhz with 1.63v seems like easy hehe passed IBT 15loop max level which was using max memory test for daily i use 2500k at 4.6ghz and for 4.8ghz i need 1.315v more than urs i guess u have great procie, bro.
For ur problem, i need u to find is this mobo supporting for ur OCZ ram?? its weird since it cannot run at stock but can run at overclocked condition..... try run at 1600mhz at leave timing at auto.

  • P67a-gd55 multplier not dropping on idle

OK guys. I have the MSI P67A-GD55 B3 mobo with the 1.11BIOS updated with an i7 2600k CPU
I have noticed 1 problem with the current BIOS update and would like someone at MSI to test and possibly do another update for this if needed.
    I have the following setup
    C1E support enabled
    CPU ratio : 34
    Base Frequency : 1000
    Internal PLL Overvoltage : enable
    EIST : enable
    Internal Turbo boost : enable
    Adjust DRAM Frequency : 1600
    vDroop control : lower
    Intel C-State : enable
If I do a factory restore and set this settings without touching the CPU ratio(multiplier), then the CPU multiplier will drop to x16 when idled.
If I go back into the BIOS and change only the multiplier up to 60, keep going up to cycle through and set it to 34 again, then CPU multiplier no longer drop down when idle inside Windows.
Ideally, I would like to over lock the CPU to x42 and still retain the abily tohave the multiplier drop when idle.
Can someone look into this and test if it happens to them as Welland/or how to fix it.

I think I know what you are talking about.  You want to use the Intel Speed Stepping feature (have the CPU idle at a low Freq, but then turbo boost to a higher freq).  For the MSI boards this is possible, but you can't do it via the CPU Multiplier.  You have to use the CPU Ratio Limit setting.  To help you, here is my bios settings.  My P67A-GD55 board is using Bios 1.9.
The below settings allow my i2500K process or idle at 1.6Gig, but then turbo boost to 4.2Gig under heavy load.  Please be sure you have a good CPU cooler before doing any O/C'ing.

  • P67a-gd55 b3 o.c genie lowered my ram frequency

Got a problem with o.c genie button. when o.c button is active, my ram frequency lowered 1600 to 1333mhz.
    Mainboard : P67A-GD55 B3
    Bios : 4.3
    Cpu : İntel i5 2500k
    Ram : Kingston KHX1600C9AD3B1K2/4G  (it's 1600mhz ram,but in factory settings lowered to 1333, i don't know why)
I haven't enough information at overclocking (voltages etc.), so i trust o.c genie.
On standart mode, i changed myself ram frequency "auto" to "1600mhz", everthing is fine. But when O.C genie mode is on, ram frequency option locked, it says "1600mhz" but current frequency is lowered to 1333. Is there a option to overclocked cpu, and ram frequency on 1600mhz same time ?

Your ram seems not to feature a XMP setting (http://www.kingston.com/datasheets/KHX1600C9AD3B1K2_4G.pdf). But oc genie can either set standard or XMP settings. Your standard settings of the ram are programmed into the SPDs to JEDEC standard latency DDR3-1333 timing of 9-9-9. So your standard setting is 1333. DDR3-1600 requires manual setting.
So with oc genie you have to manually set DDR3-1600.

I suggest that you test with one piece of RAM at a time. It may be a RAM problem.
Do post the code of the BSOD here to let us identify what the exact problem may be.

  • 8GB of RAM Installed, only 4GB detected/used by BIOS/Windows 7 (with P67A-GD55)

Let me start off by saying that I'm not very good with computers. At all. I know a little bit about them, but I am by no means an expert. That said, I have 8GB of RAM installed on my motherboard, spread out across 4 sticks. However, upon looking at my BIOS and my Windows Resource Monitor, it declares that I only have 4GB of RAM installed and usable. This is what I know so far:
    - This issue has been prevalent as long as I've had my computer, and by extension my motherboard and my RAM sticks, so this issue isn't recent.
    - I do have a 64bit version of Windows 7. I've checked and double-checked, and I'm 99.5% positive that it is.
    - Speccy, a 3rd party program designed for checking system specs, declares that I do, in fact, have 8GB installed.
    - I don't think that the RAM is bad because the BIOS still does pick up on different statistics of the RAM that are in the slots; it just fails to register the actual fact that they're there.
    System Specs:
    OS: Windows 7 64bit SP1
    CPU: Intel Core i5 2500K  @ 3.30GHz
    RAM: Patriot PSD32G133K 4x2GB DDR3 @ 498MHz
    Motherboard: MSI P67A-GD55 P67 LGA 1155
HDD: 977GB SAMSUNG SAMSUNG HD103SJ ATA Device (SATA)
Optical Drive: LG DVDRAM GH24NS50 ATA Device
GPU: AMD Radeon HD 6870 1GB VRAM
    PSU: Cooler Master 750 Watt
    BIOS Version: E7681IMS V1.5
Now this is where it gets interesting: My motherboard has 4 DIMM slots for the RAM, and the motherboard (I assume by default) works in dual-channel mode. This means that DIMM 1 and 3 work together and so do DIMM 2 and 4, which most of you probably understand. However, filling up all 4 slots only gives me half the RAM. So I remove the RAM from slots 2 and 4, and it results in all 4GB of RAM being detected. Then, I add in each other RAM stick one at a time, and it fails to register both. So I remove the RAM from slots 1 and 3, and keep the RAM from slots 2 and 4, and it ends up in all 4GB being registered.
I feel like the answer should be directly in front of me, but from endless Google searches and posts on other forums, I have ended up at a dead end. I'm completely clueless, so I could really use some help.
Any and all help would be appreciated.
Also, if this is the wrong forum for this, feel free to move it wherever.

What is your current UEFI/BIOS Version?
The usual cause of such problems is (apart from bad memory slots or a defect of the processor's memory controller) a contact problem between the boards CPU Socket contact pins and the CPU's contact pads.  Broke or bent pins are one explanation, in other instances a heatsink that is fastened to tight can also cause such issues.
I'll have the BIOS version up in a moment, but I'll see about diagnosing if one of those problems might just be what is my problem. Any tips on doing that?
Also, BIOS version is up in the OP now.

  • P67A-GD55 Memory Query

In February I am emabarking on a new PC/System build.
The Motherboard will be the MSI P67A-GD55, with the Intel I-5 2500K unlocked CPU.
PSU will be the Corsair HX650.
My question is, if I put in 2x2GB DDR3 Dual Channel Corsair Memory sticks with a voltage of 1.65V, will it be ok for this mother board?
    Thanks in advance.

    nvidia 9600gt
    win 7 64bits
it work fine with 8gb at 1333mhz, but when i upgraded it to 16gb, it don't start anymore and loop at the boot. I tried to setup ram to 1333mhz instead of auto, put the voltage to 1.65v as suggested for p67 board. I also tried each module and it's works fine at 8gb but anything to do at 16gb.
There is a way to do it works with this kit.

Quote from: loomyz on 30-May-12, 07:17:01
I updated the Bios to v1.I and it changes anything. I mixed my 8gb kit and it works, so i supposed it will normally work at 16gb.
just because 8GB of mixed ram worked doesnt mean it will always work with mixed kit (you probably got lucky with the 8GB config and the chips would have been within a batch or 2 of each other)
the 16GB 2x(2x4GB) dual channel kits might have very different chips so you have this problem
DON'T EVER ASSUME THAT MIXED KITS WILL WORK BECAUSE IT DID BEFORE YOU MIGHT HAVE JUST GOT LUCKY <--- thats a rule i always follow
do you still have the boxes the 2 8GB kits came in as there is a lable on the back with a barcode number above the kit number CMZ8GX3M2A1600C9 what are the 2 numbers off them eg. 106578452?
a drift on them of more then 1,000,000 then the chips will not be matching at all from my experiance with corsair dimms.

Hi guys, This has been my first build with msi board and has turned out to b a pain in the u kno what lol.
I wanted a Sandybridge upgrade so got all my new components delivered the other day. core i5 2500k, msi P67A-GD55 (B3) and 8gb (2x4gb) corsair vengeance 1600 ddr3.  and after installing it all in my case, i switched the system on and it came on for a min or so then it turned of then back on only stayin on for a second then rebootin over n over till i unplug the system.
I have reset bios on many occasions even removed cmos battery for over 12 hours and no joy. Also i have removed memory and tried usin just the 1 module in every slot, used other module by itself too.
    I have a OCZ 780watt PSU, GTX 480, X-FI Forte, G.Skill Falcon 64gb SSD and 2x 1tb Samsung f3 drives
    Please help guys
    Thanx

Well I have phoned up scan and they have issued me RMA number.  I dont have access to additional RAM, Have since built system in and outside case with only cpu and 1 stick or ram still boot loopin so will send board bk to scan. Thanks guys for your responses

  • P67A-GD55 can't access bios.

Had problem earlier to access bios using an msi p67a gd43, today i changed in to a p67a gd55 and i have the same problem. When i start it counts "98","99","A3" and then i press ALT and it just locks saying "starting setup".
I'm able to boot in to windows 7 64bit without any problem.
    My setup is:
    CPU: i5 2500k
    GFX: Palit Geforce GTX460 768mb
    RAM: 2x UMAX DDR3 1600 oc 2gb
    PSU: Zumax 630W
I've unplugged all HDD and DVD.
So far I've tried to Clear Cmos with button and also jumper/battery method. Bios was 1.8 stock but flashed it anyway to 1.8.
    Switch slots for RAM.
Removed the moderboard from chassi so it had no metal contact.
    Changed PSU.
Only things i havent been able to change is ram and gfx so i suppose one of them is causing this problem, as for the memory im not able to get any information from it in sisoft sandra, in cpu-z it cant identify the brand.
Anyone had this or similare problem, and what did you do?

I hearby would like to inform all people that cetus UMAX DDR3-1600 OC is NOT suitable with MSI's P67 chipset.
It would be beneficial if you could advise the forum what memory you are using now that does work. Makes it easier for others that are considering memory for their boards.

  • P67A-GD55, RipJaws & Scythe Mugen 2 Rev. B - compatible?

    Hi all,
Am thinking of upgrading my system with the following components:
    P67A-GD55 motherboard
    G.Skill RipJaws memory (2 x 4GB)
Scythe Mugen 2 Rev. B cooler
Does anyone know for sure if these are all compatible - that is, the memory will fit with the cooler attached? Is it OK if the cooler covers 2 memory slots, and I only use the outer slots? (Obviously I'd rather avoid this but it would be acceptable)
    Thanks in advance,
    P.

Suggest you consider the Zalman that HU16E is using and then rather get some low profile mem modules like the Crucial Ballistix instead or Corsair XMS3
You did not say what exact RipJaws these are.

I used the USB flash tool (mode 1), and used a archive posted on the forum. Everything seemed fine, "update completed succesfully", i shut down computer and cleared CMOS, went into bios and loaded optimized defaults.
In Bios I could see the updated Bios version. So in Bios everything was working fine. But after i saved my settings and tried booting into windows i only get to "windows starting", then blue screen and computer restarts. I tried to do another Cmos reset but it didnt work, and the same thing happend a couple of more times. Right now im in a loop where the computer starts for a couple of seconds and then restarts almost immediatly, so i cant go into BIOS.
    Any help is appreciated!

I had to change DRAM Frequency to 1333MHZ, i keept DRAM Voltage at 1.65v. With the CMOS reset, the DRAM Voltage is set to about 1.48v and 1333MHZ.
    EDIT2:
Changing DRAM voltage did not make a difference. Should i try to make the bios recovery: "How can I recover the BIOS on my MSI motherboard"?
no the problem is not in BIOS, you no need bios recovery.

After disconnecting CD/DVD and HDD i am now able to enter BIOS.
which one exactly? find the reason what cause you not to enter in bios setup
about OS you may need OS reinstall since you are flashing from very old BIOS version to the latest one with ME7
in some case it may need OS reinstall
assume if everything else is set right: SATA Mode , and no stability issues

  • P67A-GD55 Won't Power On - Onboard Power Button Blinks

I just built my Core i7 system with the P67A-GD55 motherboard and I'm having a problem.  I've got all my components installed and when I plug my power cord into my power supply the system won't turn on.  The power button on the motherboard repeatedly blinks green, but doesn't do anything.  My case power button won't do anything at all either.  I've read through the manual and searched through the forums and haven't been able to find an answer.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Mobo:  MSI P67A-GD55
    CPU: Intel Core i7-2600 3.4GHz
    RAM:  Patriot Gamer 2 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3-1600
    HDD1:  Crucial M4 64GB connected to SATA1
    HDD2:  Seagate 7200.11 500GB connected to SATA2
    PSU:  Silverstone ST60F 600W
    Video: ATI Radeon 4670 1GB

PSU has 42 +12V amps on the single rail, so that shouldn't be a problem. Could you please check the green sticker on the BIOS chip to see which version the board was shipped with? Guessing 1.8 or 1.9? I have a feeling it is a RAM compatibility issue. The very newest BIOS's have improved support for both G.Skill & Patriot memory modules, but you have to get into the BIOS initially to set the RAM up manually to possibly get to the point of loading the OS for the BIOS update. To rule out a possible bad stick of RAM, try to start with each of them singularly in the first blue slot, & just one HDD, & with VGA installed.

  • P67A-GD55 boot stops at POST 99 w/ 1-long+2short beep code.

Well subject line tells most of the story:
P67A-GD55 boot stops at POST 99 in lower right of display and with 1-long+2short beep code.
I've found a note somewhere on these forums that 99 code means Super IO initialization,   though I'm not sure if this is the checkpoint before or after that process.
I've found generic information that suggests 1long+2short beep code indicates a video card failure.
I'm surprised that the manual for the MB doesn't list these codes, and that they weren't listed in the troubleshooting FAQ on the MSI site.   So I still wonder if it may mean something else.
I've disconnected all the SATA connections,  and removed all pci cards except for the video card.   Guess I'll try disconnecting the front-panel usb connectors too in a moment, but I'm running out of ideas.
With a EVGA GT520 video card,   I get these symptoms regardless of which pcie slot I put the card in.
With a Galaxy 8400GS  the beep code is the same but no output is ever visible on the display.  It seems possible that I just need an adapter to use the other connector on this card to see the output though.
With a EVGA 7800GT   the symptoms are the same as with the EVGA GT520
If I try removing the memory sticks I get 3-long beeps followed by system shutting itself down.

Run of the mil keyboard.    (has a logo with a circle containing a crescent containing a D).   Suppose I could switch to a usb keyboard around here somewhere.
Disconnected the logitec usb mouse that I had connected to the back panel with no change in symptoms.
Toughpower-650 power supply (had been in use on a system that was running an athlon x64 and the GT7800GT graphics card.
2 sticks PNY DDR3 PC3-10666 4G  ("compatible with 1333MHz")   1 stick in each blue slot.
No idea how to tell you the UFEI/BIOS version.    The manual says its "CLiCK BiOS"   but since I've never seen anything but 98,99 and _  displayed by the BIOS  I really don't know.
Removing the case front panel USB connectors didn't change symptoms.
Resetting the bios by the button at the back panel connectors (near keyboard connector)  didn't change anything. (although it did not cause  "system will boot automatically"  as a line in the manual might suggest.
Tried using the JBAT connector to clear the bios as well and likewise no change in symptoms.
There are no peripherals connected other than case power switch, power LED and HDD LED at this point.    Somehow I don't expect much change from disconnecting LED's.    Case switch seems to be behaving normally in that it causes the boot cycle to start, and if pressed while the "99" is sitting there in corner of screen it causes machine to shut down.
No SATA devices are connected to it since they won't really be useful untill can at least get to the BIOS.   The sata cables that would go to those devices are still connected to the MB.
    CPU:i5-2400 3.1GHz 6MB Cache LGA1155 95W
Heatsink:Cooler Master Vortex PlusRR-VTPS-28pk-r1  connected to the CPU fan connector on MB.
    No sysfan connections to MB.

  • HDD Freezing and dissapear with SSD + P67A-GD55

    Hello people
I have just renove my computer and bought this:
    CPU                   QuadCore Intel Core i5 2500K, 3450 MHz (35 x 99)
    Motherboard   MSI P67A-GD55 (MS-7681)
GraphicCard   NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560 Ti  (1024 MB)
    Memory            G Skill F3-12800CL9-2GBXL   2 GB DDR3-1600 DDR3 SDRAM
Sound           Creative SB X-Fi XtremeMusic/Platinum Sound Card
    SSD               OCZ-VERTEX2 ATA Device  (SATA-II)
I have just add also my old CorsairHX520W powersupply plus one Western Digital Green of 2TB and one Velociraptor of 300GB
The thing is that when I finish of installing Windows 7 x64 and all the drivers, when I for example use intensely the Velociraptor it freezes and finally dissapear of my computer. And then after a lot of reboot i cant initiate Windows. I am desperate. I think is related with Intel RST drivers, SATA or ACHI.
If you need to know I have install all in ACHI mode, Vertex2 in SATA0 port, Velociraptor in SATA1, and the GreenCaviar2TB in SATA3.
Any suggestions or ideas to fix it? Thanks!

Since the OP hasn't done a followup post since April, we don't really know the outcome. No indication if he had a B2 board or a B3. It would be best if you open a fresh new thread. Please include all the systems components.
This can be further discussed in your own thread.
    Ok.
