P67A-GD63(B3) Bios update with older Intel i7

Hello all,
I have always been an happy customer with my MSI P67 board. But at some point the new series of BIOS was released, which supported IvyBridge processors. I used to keep my BIOS updated, now I understand that unless I have an IvyBridge, it's not recommended.
Does that mean that I am losing the chance to update my BIOS forever - and the other perhiperals BIOS with it, say the RAID controller? Or maybe things have changed since the first release?
I have an Intel i7 2600K.
Thanks everybody!
Antonio

I, have P67A-GD55 motherboard and i7 2600K (sandy bridge) and all work fine with the last 4.3 bios.
However, OC is not optimal with this 4.3 bios.
If you plan to buy an Ivy Bridge processor, you'll have to update to 4.x bios before changing processor because Sandy bridge processor doesn't work with 1.X bios.
After updatind to 4.X bios with your sandy bridge, you will can to change it to Ivy bridge.

[Athlon64] Failed Bios update with both Live Update and Dos version = badchecksum shutdown

Sometimes bios recovery is a long shot .
But the award bios v.6 is supposed to be able to do it if the bootblock is still intact.
Best way seems to be to strip it down to minimal configuration , disconnect all drives except floppy , one ram module , perhaps without video card also .

  • 650 G1: Silent BIOS Update With No Automatic Reboot?

We need to update the BIOS during our automated Windows 7 OS deployment. It is required that the BIOS install runs with no interaction and that it doesn't reboot automatically so that our deployment process can control all reboots.  I know the BIOS upgrade requires a reboot, but we will add the reboot as a task in our deployment scripts so we can control it.  Unexpected reboots will cause the deployment to fail. Here is a link to the update installation files:http://h20565.www2.hp.com/portal/site/hpsc/template.PAGE/public/psi/swdDetails/?sp4ts.oid=5405401&spf_p.tpst=swdMain&spf_p.prp_swdMain=wsrp-navigationalState%3Didx%253D%257CswItem%253Dob_130551_1%257CswEnvOID%253D4059%257CitemLocale%253D%257CswLang%253D%257Cmode%253D%257Caction%253DdriverDocument&javax.portlet.begCacheTok=com.vignette.cachetoken&javax.portlet.endCacheTok=com.vignette.cachetoken  Our older laptops used hpqflash -s -a, but it appears it has changed. What is the command line syntax to run this BIOS update unattended with no reboot?

Begining sometime in mid-2013, notebook platforms began using a new flash utility --  HPBIOSUPDREC.exe. I would have to do some investigating as to how the SilentInstall uses the "hpqrun.exe" command in the cva file , but the map.ini file included with SP65838  provides the following:        1993=hpbiosupdrec -s -r -fL77_0104.bin
           1994=hpbiosupdrec -s -r -fL77_0104.bin
           2101=hpbiosupdrec -s -r -fL78_0104.bin
2102=hpbiosupdrec -s -r -fL78_0104.bin where the 4 digit number on the left refers to the system ID number. Run HPBIOSUPDREC.exe /?    from a command line window to see all the command line flags.  thanks,RichardI work for HP but am not a company spokesperson. • Qosmio G30-189 BIOS Update to support Intel Core 2 Duo ( MEROM )

    Hello !
Can you tell when Toshiba will release a BIOS Update to support the new intel core 2 duo mobile cpu.
The actual BIOS 1.4 does not recognize the new cpu type.
As Toshiba delivers a core 2 duo based qosmio in USA G35-650 a bios should be availble.
For sure I now that this makes the gurantee go away.
    Please help.
    Greetings
    Marcus Reichert

Hmm, yes sure - i work in IT and I think I repaired 5000 notebooks ... I am certainly not mad at you !
I am happy that anyone answeres me ....
So, I have here an Qosmio G30-145 and the G30-189 - they are absolutely identical.
Only the Video Ram is smaller and a different CPU is inserted.
In the US there is the G35-650 - also nearly the same - and this uses a creo 2 duo.
Be sure Toshiba will not build different units - they just change the name and include some minor changes to config ( pal and ntsc etc. )
You will be sure to see a G30 with Core 2 Duo very soon here in europe or germany and then bang - it will be the same hardware with a different bios - I BET !!!
Yes, I know the power Saving Tool and I agree with you in all points.
BUT windows XP, Linux and Vista do also habe power schemes and controll the fans - the Toshiba tolls adds only more features.
I think the actual bios accepts now the core 2 duo, but still has problems with the power scheme - Intel says the CPUs are nearly comaptible.
I have tested Core 2 Duos, Asus and other - no problem at all.
I think if we wait we get a bios which fixes all, problem is I need it know.
    Have a nice weekend

  • Hp envy-m6 1201tx (Bios Update with switch-able graphics option)

Hi I have bought Hp envy-m6 1201tx, it is very smooth in working & all,
but the problem comes with switchable graphics.
i've studied every possible option for switchable graphics to work so i can use my AMD (Radeon HD 7670M),
but i can't because my pc does not support Opengl applications to run on High-perforance (AMD gpu) & and thus im forced to used low quality GPU(Intel HD Graphics 4000) which i don't want  . I want to use my AMD GPU and it it only possible if there is a (Bios Upgrade) from HP with the option of Switchable Graphics(Fixed Mode & Dynamic Mode). I've spent around $927 for this pc and also upgraded the RAM as well to 16GB & it will be all in vain if i can't use my AMD GPU. I just want bios upgrade for my PC like HP did the same bios upgrade for these PC's http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c02948560&lc=en&cc=uk&dlc=en . Its a problem all HP envy-m6 1201tx users and others are facing.. I im a loyal Customer of HP and i dont want to switch to any other brand so HELP and Replay ASAP.
I hope i wont get disappointed........

The only BIOS update available for the HP ENVY m6-1201tx Notebook PC is "HP Notebook System BIOS Update (Intel Processors)" below. As to whether or not it includes Switchable Graphics in it I cannot say as there is nothing the description saying it does.

Not every computer or Notebook will have the option in the BIOS as not every computer or Notebook are the same hardware requirements may not be available for a BIOS option.

  • X61: BIOS Update with/from USB Stick or 3rd party CD-ROM

I was trying to update the BIOS of my X61 (7673-CTO) but surprisingly read, that with Vista 64Bit I am only able to do this via a bootable CD which is fine for me (although to my very personal opinion a bit old-fashined). The bigger problem is, that this CD obviously does NOT boot properly from/with a third party external USB-CD-ROM, which I personally think is outrageous! So I am somehow forced to buy "an original Lenovo-Drive" to make a BIOS update?? Forum, please proove me I am wrong!

    Hello all,
I, too, found this oversight on the part of Lenovo to be quite distressing. It is possible to upgrade the X61 BIOS with a USB thumb drive. I have provided directions at http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=817897
The above tutorial is aimed towards Ubuntu Linux users. However, I believe that users of Vista should be able to follow along. Please let me know if you have any questions... the process is simple enough that it should be possible with any OS out there right now.

  • [(un)-SOLVED] BIOS update with wine?

    Hi all,
I'd like to know if it is safe to update the BIOS via Wine. The problem is that my BIOS update does not run from DOS and I don't have any Vista partition on my HD (the BIOS update is only for Vista it seems). However, the program launch with Wine.
    Thanks
EDIT: Nevermind... Wine can't reach the BIOS.
Although, if anyone has an idea as to how to upgrade a BIOS with an utility made for Vista... Please tell me.

I reflashed the firmware in my DVD writer via WINE the other day, without really thinking. About halfway through the process I came to my senses and spent the rest of it biting my nails and holding my breath. But it worked. (Didn't solve the problem I was having with it, mind you, but the thing still works as well as it ever did.)
I'd never try a BIOS update, though. Too risky even under "real" Windows, unless it's absolutely necessary.

  • P67A-GD55 (B3) Bios update fail

Hi all. I just tried doing a bios update using the Windows USN method and now my computer is stuck in an infinite loop and will not finish the bios update. I tried a bios reset a couple of times with no luck. Does anyone have any suggestions?
I am using a i5 2500K an SSD with Win7 and 8 GIG of 1333 Dual channel RAM.

The bios chips is soldered not in a socket. The chance to get the old one out and the new one in is very slim if you are not really good at electronics and have proper tools for those minature dimensions. Besides a bios chip is of no use if you can't flash it. If the chip is not preflashed the chip wouldn't be of more use than the current one. Still you'd need an SPI flash programming device. As the chip is already at 20 bucks and of no use it is more useful to save some more for a new board. Also you could contact MSI as they are offering to flash boards for a reasonable price in many markets. >>How to contact MSI.<<
Thanks for the input. I am aware of these facts and looked into doing it myself and discovered that the EPROM is soldered and not a socket-ed version. You are right...my old eye site, etc. would not allow me to accomplish this feat. The EPROMS on Ebay are already programmed with the latest BIOS, by the way. I guess I will either sell the mobo as is or look at getting it fixed by a pro or MSI in the near future. In the mean time I decided to cut my losses and am waiting for the delivery of an ASRock Z77 Extreme4 board. (for a very reasonable price with discounts applied).
Gonna miss the old board because of it's great overclocking. When I first got it I had my i52500K running up to 5 GHZ and stable at 4.8 GHZ. I am not going to miss the standby problems it was prone to though. The BIOS boot was slow also. Oh well gave me an excuse to upgrade to a newer chip set MOBO.
    Rock on MSI dudes!

  • P67A-GD55 (B3) bios update to Ivy Bridge, vDroop

    Hi again,
Carrying out the BIOS update to 4.1 seems to have fixed the double booting issue I used to have with Win7 64 bit.
I am currently running Sandy Bridge i5 2500K and the system runs fine, however I seem to have lost vDroop control, no vDroop setting seems to make a difference (from auto all the way up to +100). With 1.35v set in bios ends up being 1.295v under 100% load as reported in MSI control centre, 1.37V = 1.305. As a result my CPU OC has been reduced from 4.7 to 4.2 stable. Is this something that may be corrected in future releases or is my board now only supported in an Ivy Bridge configuration?
    Many thanks in advance.

Having this same issue.  Is it safe to increase the BIOS voltage setting beyond what you intend to hit the proper voltage?  IE  setting 1.45 so that you get 1.40.   I am a little uneasy with doing that, but what is the alternative?
1.400v's is the recommended everyday limit for CPU V., so the best way to know what the actual voltage is being delivered, a digital mulrimeter is a must.

  • P67A-GD65: failed BIOS update, no more post

    Hi,
I had updated my P67A-GD65 (B3) to the new 4.3 BIOS, after using a much older one, based on the description for improved PCI-E performance. The experience was a nightmare though, and not only could I no longer overclock in the BIOS (nor the Control Center software), but my video card, a Radeon 7870, became highly unstable. I had backed up my BIOS before this, and proceeded to downgrade to it from the BIOS utility. It gave me a warning that the BIOS file was not for my motherboard, which i understandably ignored, since that was what it had been running before. Lo and behold, the machine will no longer post at all and I have just about thrown in the towel.
I did some searches here and cleared the CMOS via the jumper, and tried the recovery tips I saw regarding booting with the CTRL-Home keys pressed, but no sign of life at all. I live in Brazil, so sending this for tech support will mean some weeks and shipping abroad. Before I do that, does anyone have any tips or suggestions?

I Think MSI must advise all users that some procedure of flashing are dangerous, like "in Bios" and "in Windows".
MSI should simply remove from official site these flashing possibilities.
Perhaps I exaggerate, but it is not normal that the flashing procedure fails with official tools.
I think the fact their new BIOS is so problematic is a much worse issue than this failed flash problem that killed my computer. I did not mention that after all those problems I described with 4.3, I actually downgraded to 4.2 to see the exact same problem. It was at that point that I chose to move back to the older BIOS family which led to the present standstill.

  • P67A-GD65 No BIOS/boot with DisplayPort

    Hi,
Just replaced Asus P8P67 Deluxe with this board, as the Asus suffered from random power downs. Turns out, this board did exactly the same as I was typing this.
That problem aside (added more vcore), this board will not even boot into the BIOS (v1.8) with my Apple Cinema screen connected via the DisplayPort (XFX 5870). All I get is a blinking cursor before the MSI logo.
It boots fine using an older DVI monitor.
As soon as I get to the W7 login screen, if I connect the Apple screen, it works perfectly.
One would imagine its something to do with the DisplayPort driver and the graphical aspect of the BIOS.
    Any suggestions?
Edit: already reset CMOS (tried about 5 times), to no avail. AX850 PSU with Corsair 1600 CAS8 16GB RAM.

  • P67A-GD55 (B3) bios update to Ivy Bridge, question regarding PCIe-3

    Hi,
Ive just updated my P67A-GD55 (B3) to the 4.0 BIOS for Ivy Bridge and I am a little confused as to whether of not I will be able to benfit from PCIe-3 support on a Ivy Bridge CPU?
I intend to run 2 x GTX 680 in SLI, will I still be limited to PCIe-2 of can my board now take advantage of PCI-e 3?
    Many thanks in advance.

For PCI-E 3.0, a Z68 G3 series mainboard with an Ivy CPU would be needed at the minimum. So far, you are not really missing anything anyway. PCI-E 3.0 doesn't seem to be reported as providing all that much of a performance benefit with current apps, programs, and games.
Having tested GTX 680 on the P67, I must say it is in itself running PCI-E 2.0 very impressive.

  • P67A-GD65 B3 BIOS Update Failure

I decided to update my BIOS to the latest due to them being 1.5 years old (Version 1.D) to the latest (4.2).  I did it via the Windows method, after the first reboot there was no longer any video. I let it sit for 40 minutes and still nothing.  So now the computer is unusable.  I can't get into BIOS.  I tried resetting CMOS multiple times and different ways.
The BIOS status light on the board does not indicate a problem. USB even powers up.  Not sure what to do now and could really use some assistance.
    Specs:
    Mobo: P67A-GD65 B3
    CPU: i7 2600K (No overclock)
GPU: MSI Nvidia 670 GTX 2GB
    RAM: GSkill RIPJAWS DDR3-1600 CL9-9-9-24 1.5v 4GB (x2)
    PSU: Corsair TX650w
HDs: 500GB WD Blue, 650GB WD Black

Yeah, not much you can do at this point.
Your best bet depending on where you are and how much shipping would be is MSI. If you could, let me know how much if anything they charge for this.
    >>How to contact MSI.<<
Next, would be a computer shop with the nessesary equip, that is of course unless you have a friend with an IB cpu.
Keep in mind how much it is going to cost though as even a high end board like the z77a-gd65 is only $165 or so.

PS: You aren't the only one by a long shot doing this, so don't feel bad. The warning isn't very intimidating beneth the bios download. Perhap's MSI will flash it for free, who knows.
