P67A-GD65(B3) and i5 2300 overclock = 3.3 GHz max ?

I've just bought a SB mobo & CPU and try to figure out what can I do with it in terms of o/c. Just for my future reference.
My CPU is i5 2300.
Mobo is MSI P67A-GD65(B3).
PSU is OCZ Z-Series 850W
and cooler is CM Hyper 212 Plus.
I don't touch BCLK so far and I don't touch OC Genie button and I won't touch it (got used to manual driving). As far as I know all SB do have TurboBoost *PLUS* 4-tick addition (or even more with less cores active). So armed with that knowledge I entered MSI UEFI setup and disabled all energy engines (except this max 1W European standby norm.. can't remember name at this moment, sorry), so turbo 3.1 + 4 ticks should be 3.5 GHz.

And my problem is I can't reach it ;-) All I can get is 3.3 GHz (x33). CPU-Z shows me stable 3.3 with no falls to 1.6 (as energy managers are off). Even under full load (Prime95) it still shows 3.3, BTW interesting... Intel Turbo Boost Monitor shows raising bar upto 3.3 GHz under stress only, once Prime is disabled = bar falls down.
Bios is the newest (1.E). Temps under full load are about 50 deg. All voltages are auto (except memory which is 1.5 V). It doesn't matter if I set x34 or x35 CPU multiplier both in UEFI setup, and using MSI Control Centre.. as always I've got 3.3 GHz (x33) shown by CPU-Z 1.58. VDrop setting is Auto.
I'd promise once I've seen 3.4, but it was my first shot, rather for observing new cooler and temps.. and it was older BIOS.
Is it everything what can i5-2300 give to me, or is it possible to get more (x35) somehow ? I will try BCLK later, now I'd like to find maximum multiplier.

BTW, I'm happy with it (so far) as it's noticeably faster, cooler and more energy efficient than Q9550 I have had before. And the whole platform doesn't make my soundcard having "cracked", so I'd say it's a fullness of happiness.

Msi p67a-gd65 mouse and keyboard freeze - blinking caps lock.

As the title says, my mouse and keyboard suddenly froze while I was chatting on Skype and I noticed that my system was still running. In fact, my razer mouse light was also blinking. The caps lock had a sort of sequential blink, although I'm not sure.
Anyway, I had to use the power button to shut down the system and everything seems normal again. Does anyone know what would cause this? Is it a software issue or due to my board?
I'm running 64-bit Windows 7 Ultimate.

This was the first time this sort of thing has happened. I did have to replace (RMA) my PSU once before due to a random shut down issue but that was resolved. I'm really curious as to why this would happen and I'm hoping it's a software issue and not something related to the USB ports on the board.

P67A-GD65(B3) and drive upgrade (3TB, GPT) issues

I was happy P67A-GD65 owner.. until now. I've bought 3TB single drive to replace old 2x1TB drives working as RAID-0.
PC had no problems at all with detection new drive, I've connected it with SATA2 port&cable due to such case construction. I've partitioned it with GPT style = all fine.
Troubles started once I wanted to clone RAID-0 partitions to new drive. MBR->GPT partitions are not an issue, but I've got 8 operating systems there (3xWindowses, 5xLinuxes), so I had to use two-stage bootmenu: first stage MBR-based (GRUB) with direct Linux starters + entrance to Windows menu, and second stage EBR-based (Win Vista/7-style) with Windowses only. Strictly I have no idea which program is able (if any, as I doubt) to make simply copy of all structure to new drive, because of MBR... I decided new drive will be GPT-like, so no more WIndows XP and MBR -> if so, so MBR-based boot-menu goes to h*ll -> if so, so first stage menu is gone, half of my operating systems is unstartable.
So I decided to go with "manual way" and install all OSes by hand. Yes, it's a pain. One week probably out of my life calendar.
So I disabled SSD and RAID, sticking with new drive only. Windows 7 has been installed. OK then - I think - time to enable RAID-0 and copy data. ZONK... I simply can't boot "new" drive (UEFI-based) with RAID enabled.
You must know I've done Win7 install with no RAID enabled, as well as BIOS option regarding to SATA mode was set to AHCI (whether my previous setup required setting this to RAID).
SO my question: is it possible to boot PC from UEFI-based drive (GPT-style partitions) and have RAID-0 (MBR-style) attached somehow ? Drive requires AHCI mode and hangs up with RAID mode (bluescreen). I underline - it works the opposite way: I can boot from MBR-ed RAID and attach GPT single drive (BIOS SATA settings: RAID). Have I to reinstall Win7 with RAID turned on ??

No, it's not GPT partitioning. I've done this properly now, Windows didn't shout during install...
So - summing up:
All connected (SSD & 2xHDDs in RAID-0 & new 3TB HDD) - to Intel SATA ports:
port 0: 3TB Toshiba
port 1: SSD
port 4: RAID-0 vol1
port 5: RAID-0 vol2
.. in BIOS there's SATA mode set to: RAID mode. Clicking F11 - bootmenu - during startup:
* Windows boot manager (UEFI) boot - shows screen with corrupted uefi/someething file, repair or reboot
* Intel RAID-0 boot - loads Win7 from SSD, new drive is shown with no problem
Single drive boot (SSD & RAID-0 unplugged):
* Windows boot manager (UEFI) boot - loads Win7 from new 3TB drive
So I can't work with newly instaled WIndows (and copy a whole content of "old" HDDs having booted from new drive), I have to boot "old" MBR-based RAID-0 system and copy files instead. It's a bit odd as if I wanted to connect RAID-0 (or another bootable drive) in the future = boot might be impossible ?
I'm just afraid how Linuxes will go... brrr.

P67A-GD65(B3) and freezes during boot, or rare reset

Hi,
I've got stupid issue. My mobo is rock solid under:
* few Windowses (7/8/XP)
* few Linuxes (Mandriva, Mageia, Ubuntu - in 32 and 64-bit revisions)
* UEFI BIOS.
But I've noticed it sometimes freezes on.. GRUB (ver 2, installed by Ubuntu) - when I press cursor keys too much, it just freezes and all I can do is hard reset. Is it something wrong with keyboard support, or something ? Keyboard is fine and doesn't cause any issues under any OS though.
I've tested memory with MemTest and all was fine. PSU is strong enough. Nothing is overheating (CPU/GPUs/bridge). System is not overclocked. Everything else works just brilliant (gaming, overclocking, testing under load). Oh, and GRUB is placed on my HDD, not SSD.
Any suggestions, please ?
P.S.
And sometimes.. it's very rare, too - but when I choose Win 7 to boot from SSD (I've got multiboot system with GRUB/Win menu) it boots... but after 5-6 seconds (before log screen) my PC makes self-reset.

Do you enable xmp profile to get 1600 mhz memspeed in bios or do you run mem @ 1333 mhz? I get this with win7-64 with my 2 X 4 gb corsair vengeance lp 1600 if I run it at 1600 with the p67a-c45. I was told that since this intel chipset has a max officially rated speed of 1333 mhz you can get strange things happening if you overclock the chipset. BTW performance gain with running @ 1600 mhz is almost zero anyway.

MSI P67A GD65 Multiplier and software problems

i just bought i5 2500k and Msi mb, it came with 1.4 bios version and the maximum multiplier that i could log into Windows was 44 even though the vcore adjustment didnt work properly
maxing out at 1.224 (bios reading) no matter the voltage set manually, I updated to 1.7B4 and i was able to get into windows at 46x100 the downside of the new bios was the memory suddenly stopped working at 2133 10-11-11-30 1.65v even 12-12-12-30 would end up in oc failed message so i had to settle for 1866. Now i updated to 1.8B5 and i can run my memory at 10-11-11-30 again no problem but
maximum muliplier went down to 44... again - theres no way to make system work with 45 or higher multiplier so basically oc-wise 1.8B5 is like 1.4 with vcore adjustment working properly/pll fix - Plz p67 users need proper bios.
Second problem is that Overcloking center crashes with 0xc0000005 code right after launching exe - first happened on my old XP SP3 so i installed fresh Win7 unfortunatelly its the same story.

Ok now im mad i flashed back to 1.7B4 and guess what i cant choose any multiplier above 44! Whats weird is that although bios version says 1.7B4 its behaving exactly like 1.8B5
Every time i changed some voltage option in bios V1.4 or V.1.7B4 the pc would power down and then power up, since 1.8B5 it would just reset. That and inability to go above x44 when just yesterday
i could go x46 (i didnt check more as i want to run my SB below 1.35vcore) makes me think my cpu is artificially locked and ability to go above x44 in 1.7B4 was just an accident that was
corrected in 1.8B5 whch has some code inside that prevents (in case somebody wants to downgrade) to update data responsible for cpu oc. Another example supporting that is that my cpu can
boot up at 4.4 ghz@stock voltage (1.168 in bios) log into windows and run some tests , of course it would freeze and reset randomly after some seconds or minutes but still... On the other hand changing the mulitplier to 45 and vcore up to 1.4v doesnt even make HDD start spinning and load WIndows after the MSI logo screen vanishes, its just seems locked.

P67A-GD65 (B3) and Corsair Dominator DDR3

I've got old 4GB of Corsair Dominator DDR3 memory (CM3X2G1800C8D) which operate at standard 1800 MHz CL8 and 1.8 V. I used to get them work @ 1333 MHz CL6 and 1.66V, probably they might work @ 1333 and 1.5 V with higher timings (CL9) as I remember, but this is not written down into SPD, I'm afraid.
Question is - can I use such memory sticks with my new motherboard ? I know they are able to operate at 1.66V and 1.5 V (probably), but what about first launch ? Is it safe to fire up PC before I get EFI BIOS ? How would mobo try to set them up ?

I don't know if that memory supports XMP, but this and SPD is NOT important, by the way.
Most important and valuable information is - as I wrote - would my new mobo fry CPU, or wouldn't ?
This question leads to tech spec (which I don't know as I'm not an MSI engineer) which generates questions like "which memory voltage will be set by default, if my (above mentioned) memory stick are detected" ? If answer is "votage is followed by some rules", I'd like to know what are those rules, for example: if settings are Auto, so XMP profile #1 is used as first, if profile #1 is not available, or doesn't match to other settings, profiles #2 is used, if #2 is not good for some reason, what is next rule etc. Or, generally, do those rules care about .5 V difference between memory and uncore voltage (or it's not important in SB CPUs) ? But it's just background, and I don't have to know it, obviously, as I'm interested in result, final conclusion: yes, or no.
I hope you understand my concern, which is not simply speech about profiles, names, or standards - but about my components' safety.
So - concluding - is it safe to first (initial) boot with such memory stick ? Purpose of this first boot is to enter the UEFI Setup, of course, and manually - or via XMP, or whatever, set memory sticks up to proper work.

P67A-GD65 (b3) bios 4.0 problems

After updating my bios, i can't get my old result@overclocking, i was using my CPU@4,5ghz but now i only have 3,8ghz stable. And my ram's have xmp problem, i can't activate xmp for g.skill ram's, it was ok before update but now... how can i solve this problem, anybody has this problem?

You should not have flashed 4.0 BIOS unless you intended to use Ivy Bridge CPU, in fact 4.0 is no longer available to flash.
There are beta BIOSs available for keyboard/mouse issues and other similar problems but 4.0 was only available for Ivy Bridge CPU support and that did not work out so good and 4.0 was removed from BIOS downloads at MSI shortly after it was released.

Unfortunately I don't think there is any way you can flash to the earlier BIOS you had before. I imagine it could be done by a shop or MSI using JSPI1 but you can't flash it by USB yourself.

P67A GD65 B3 = no wirless

Hi all. Proud owner of a shiny new rig, except my computer will not detect wireless networks. I've tried 2 different USB adapters, and an Encore PCI card to no avail. I have a laptop and an HTPC connecting just fine. I get a 100% signal on all other comps, and did on this one before I switched out mobo/cpu/ram. Any ideas would be most welcome.

Did you have a look in device manager? if driver maybe did not install correctly it will give you a question symbol, or something like that next to it.
Some usb adapters want drivers and software to be installed first, and then you need to plug in your adapter once installer prompts you to do that.
I would try removing all you have installed so far and start over.

P67A-GD65 Standby issue

Hi,
I've noticed that when I go to the menu to shut down on Windows, there's not an option for Standby, and if I hit the Standby button on my keyboard, it just turns off power completely. Is there no standby option for this motherboard? It's quite possible that I overlooked the setting in the configuration menu for the motherboard, but I'm not sure.
It's a P67A-GD65 (B3), and I've got a Corsair 650W PSU, and an Intel i5-2500k CPU. If you need additional info, let me know.

Win7 has a "Sleep" option in the shutdown menu drop down. This will put it into the S1 or S3 sleep state depending what you have configured in your BIOS, that is of course if you have not configured something else in the Power Options of the Control Panel.

This has bricked my board. Now what?
My board is P67-GD53 b3.

My first plan(?) is,
I am waiting arrival of air blow soldering rework station.
As soon as I receive, I will replace preprogrammed 4.37 BIOS chip.
I ordered two, but first I will replace PRIMARY one and try it.
If problem to update SECONDARY, I will replace SECONDARY with preprogrammed one.
My second plan is,
1. Waiting arrival of SPI programmer and SOP8 to DIP8 adapter.
2. Waiting arrival of 10 Macronix MX25L6445EM2I-10G1 BIOS chip.
3. Learn how to Program to the BIOS chip with SPI programmer, it's easier than expected.
I am engagaed in PLC & Inverter for commercial dry cleaning machine.
To support my customer, I will continuously using Windows 7x64 for Omron and Yaskawa, XPx32 for Mitsubishi with multibooting.
That's why I should keep Two P67A-GD65 Desktop and Two Lenovo E520 Laptop in good working condition.
One is main use and other one is just backup.
The reason is Windows 8 PC has some restriction to install other OS, because of Secure Boot.
That's it.
PS: The official 4.20 BIOS is just BETA level BIOS.
I have PC experience during PC-XT, before PC I used NEC5200/05 PTOS(Personal Technology Oriented System).
I never had problem with BIOS flash with MSDOS, it was successful, but boot failure.

P67A-GD65 Motherboard PS/2 connector problem

A few months ago I picked up the P67A-GD65 Motherboard and it worked just fine. One day I turned it on and found that the keyboard wasn't working anymore, not a single button functioned and the power light was off, however the USB/wireless mouse I have was still working while plugged into the back of the keyboard. Unplugging the keyboard from the PS/2 slot, and having only the USB connector to the motherboard, suddenly the keyboard would work fine. I've used two other keyboards, of different models, in the PS/2 and have the exact problem with both of them. I've been using it like this for about 2 weeks now, and every once in a while randomly the keyboard won't function when I turn on the computer, but the mouse still does, until I reach back and unplug the USB connector and plug it back in..and then poof it works fine again, which is rather annoying and confusing.
What could be causing this problem, is there a way to fix it myself? The motherboard came with 3 years warranty, however their return policy makes is so I have to ship it to them, and they will ship it back repaired/or new, which could take a week or longer. I work off my computer and even a few days of being without it would be bad for me, and the reason I bought this motherboard is because my old one is fried, so I don't have a spare to plug in temporarily.

Souns like a faulty PS/2 connector rma or just using USB seems to be the only option.

Help with P67A-GD65

Hi everyone, just wanted some advise please, i have ordered the parts for my new gaming pc (This is my first build)
I have ordered the MSI P67A-GD65 motherboard and after doing some research i getting worried that my CPU cooler won't clear my ram.
I have the coolermaster V6GT CPU cooler and the G.Skill RipJawX 4GB DDR3 kit
I just wanted to know if anyone else has this board RAM and cooler ?
If not could i get some advise on wether i should change my CPU cooler to some thing like the Akasa AK-CCX-4002HP Venom CPU Cooler ?
Or could i move my RAM into slots 2 and 4 ? would this work or would the system not boot properly ? (sorry first build )

Ha, it's OK, I read the same thing in the manual. The manual certainly doesn't leave any room for assumption, it flat out states you should use 1 & 3.

P67a-GD65 System Freezes and Recovers During 3D gaming and Online Video

The Problem:
Temporary system freeze with audio stutter. The system recovers 30sec - 2min later.
Key presses made during freeze will execute after system recovers (ctrl+alt+delete for example)
Usually, but not always, I see an error message in the system tray and I do NOT experience bsod.
This happens seemingly at random from 3D accelerated applications, and web browsing. Games such as BF3 (moderate), WoW (seldom), Planetside 2 (frequently), Minecraft (seldom), Hawken (seldom), etc.
Also happens frequently in both Internet Explorer 9/10, Firefox, Chrome, and Steam store browser. Typically when watching steaming video (youtube, HULU, flow player, etc)
but Pandora audio streaming also seems to create the conditions where this happens.

What I've tried:

Cleared CMOS and tested system at default settings with no overlock (no improvement)
Flashed 6950 back to 6950 stock bios and removed overclock (no improvement)
Replaced old 6950 with new GTX 670 (problem still occurs in the same exact way)
Tried GPU in 2nd PCIe slot. No improvement.
Checked GPU Temps. GTX 670 fan profile in EVGA Precision X set to keep temp below 70 degrees Celcius. Card maxes at 60 degrees under heavy gaming load.
Complete reformat of raid array with fresh install of Windows (4 different times) Seemed to help for a few days, then freezes came back
Ran OCCT and Prime 95 Torture tests separately for a few hours at stock and OC settings. System stable with core temps of high 50's overclocked, and low 40's stock.
Ran Memtest86 for 10 hours with zero errors.
Used digital multimeter to test 12v rail on PSU. Noted solid 12v reported. Didn't test other rails.
Unplugged PSU cables from motherboard and reattached firmly
Ran HD Tune and Data Life Guard Tools for error checking on hard disks. Zero errors found.
Disabled Windows Aero (no improvement)
Updated Adobe Flash Player to latest setting (no improvement)
Removed Adobe Flash Player (no improvement)
Turned off Adobe Flash hardware acceleration (no improvement)
*EDIT: Forgot that I also adjusted Nvidia driver profiles for apps that have frozen to include power preference to max performance
All of my hardware with the exception of the new 670 was purchased and configured back in February of 2011. This problem first occured in BF3 multiplayer sometime in early 2012,
and has gradually been happening more frequently. Web searches found many individuals with this error, but the solutions are all over the map, and I've tried just about everything that I've found.
I think I've narrowed the problem down to the motherboard, but I just can't find a clear answer or solution. Maybe it's the raid array? I really thought replacing the GPU would solve my trouble here
and I was...NOT happy when it happened again with the new 670 that I scored for $250 after amazon gift cards. I typically get kicked/disconnected during online game play when this happens and I'm ready to be done with it. I was hoping to fix the issue without needing to buy new hardware, but I don't see any other way at this point.
My patience runs thin. Please help!

Already tested that before updating to 4.3. I started having the problem on 1.8, then 1.J0, then 4.3.

I do not have another 1155 lga board to test the cpu in unfortunately, hence the CPU stress testing. Based upon previous experiences with multiple overclocked systems that I've run at much more aggressive overclocks, I don't believe I'm seeing a processor failure, though I can't rule out the possibility.

No I don't have another PSU to test. I did use a digital multimeter to test the 12v rail, as well as the motherboard contacts for testing voltage to the cpu and system They were all right in line with what I'm seeing reported in the bios. I did not test these contacts while the system was under load however, so I may need to do it again.

Overclocking an i7-2700k on P67A-GD65

So I tried Overclocking yesterday after watching a guide on YouTube.. It seemed pretty easy on a sandy bridge so I thought I'd give it a try. I went into bios changed the CPU voltage to 1.35, changed the CPU multiplier to 45, and enabled XMP profile, I then saved settings and rebooted. Windows booted up fine, turned on prime 95 and opened up real temp and ran prime 95 to make sure CPU temps stayed below 70C. One core managed to reach 70 but other than that everything was gone so Im assuming everything was stable and good. I reboot my pc and you know how when you install new ram or CPU, while rebooting for the first time it says new CPU installed etc? Well that popped up and I got curious so I went into bios and everything went back to default again. So I set up it up All over again, saved and rebooted and now I'm getting a blue screen. So I reboot go into bios and notice my sata isn't set to AHCI. So I set it and reboot. Widows loads again... I then reboot again and I get a blue screen.. Also noticing my motherboard light is flashing. I check the manual and it told me that one of my bios profiles failed. I looked up how to fix it online and managed to fix it. The light disappeared, went into bios tried to oc it again... Saved.. Rebooted light started flashing.. Windows booted up fine. I then restarted... And the comp restarted on its own a few times during post. I fix the light flashing set everything to default and now I'm clueless as to why this is happening to me. Do any of you have any ideas why??!

Power as in electricity? or power from power supply?
Oh also, after setting the stuff in BIOS and rebooting.... I noticed a FAN ( Don't know which one ) but kept going low rpm & high rpm for like 3-5 seconds... before it was normal again... then booted up to windows normally... is this supposed to happen?
Also, 20 minutes into PRIME 95 and CoreTEMP and RealTEMP... this is what i have so far..... memory has not been modifiied in bios... Only the 1.35 CPU Core Voltage and Multiplier is 45.
I just stopped the Prime95 and the final 4 highest temps were 66 73 74 71. That's too high huh?

P67A-GD65(B3) and i5 2300 overclock = 3.3 GHz max ?
