P67A-GD65 B3 boot priority keeps changing with USB device plugged in
I just bought this board this week and updated to the latest ( 1.D0 ) bios and still having these issues. First issue is that when in bios, my mouse only moves up and down. Can't move it sideways. I have to use my keyboard to adjust settings. I have Logitech USB keyboard and mouse. Second major issue is that I have 4 drives in a Raid setup and 1 1tb drive for storage. The Raid drives are hooked up to the Intel controller and the 1tb drive is hooked up to the Marvel controller. Everytime I turn the pc on and off or do a reboot the bios keeps changing the hard drive priorities to having the 1tb drive 1st even though I had the Raid drive as being first. One thing I notice is that if I unplug my USB card reader it boots fine and doesn't change the drive priority. It would be a hassle if I have to unplug my card reader each time and plug it in when I use. Kinda defeats the purpose of a front panel card reader. BTw the reason I had to plug my front panel card reader into a passthrough USB is because the board only had one 2.0 USB header and that was already being used by my 2 front panel USB connectors which was also disappointing.
Ok, all testing complete. Installed a USB 3.0 external, & a WD 2TB HDD to the Marvell. Settings, Intel AHCI, Hot Plug enabled. All USB functions enabled. Marvell set for AHCI. Booted to Windows normally. Marvell HDD showed up at POST, but in Windows had to be activated & assigned a drive letter. Full shutdown. At fresh startup, all was normal in the boot sequence with the Intel OS HDD as the #1 Boot Option, & the Marvell HDD was listed in the BBS as available to assign it's boot order. Continued to Windows & did another full shutdown. This time on a fresh restart, the Boot Option Priority was still #1 the OS HDD, but, the BBS boot order was the Marvell HDD listed as first & the Intel OS HDD as the #2. This didn't really cause any problem to boot normally even though the HDD BBS sequence was out of order. Full shutdown. At this restart, the Marvell 'was' #1 in the Boot Option Priority & the Intel OS HDD didn't show in the BBS list. I went ahead & let it boot into Windows which it did without a hitch & then I shutdown right away. At this point I took the USB external out of the picture, & it had no affect one way or another as to the boot order. Full shutdown/fresh startup, but this time, set Marvell to IDE, changed Intel Hot Plug to all disabled, save & exit, next cycle, Marvell was #1 Boot Option Priority again. Set the Intel as #1 Boot Option Priority & also as #1 in the BBS, & at every shutdown & restart since, the Intel OS HDD has held as #1. I went back & changed the Marvell back to AHCI later, & it still held correctly as to what I had set in each fresh startups.
Summary? I believe the Marvell devices are being initiated first in the POST sequence. Disable of Hot Plug seemed to help. Since the Marvell has no way to disable Hot Plug, the HDD always shows up in the Sys Tray. My advice? Unless you have multiple ODD's, I would suggest to disable & not use the Marvell ports or controller at all, or use it for ODD's only. How your card reader fits in to all this, I have no way to test for that. Place the storage HDD in one of the Intel SATA III ports, leave the 4 HDD's in Raid in the 4 black SATA II ports, place the ODD if only one in the other Intel SATA III port. Bottom line; MSI Tech Support needs to be notified & involved with this. By your description, there is an obvious conflict with the card reader & how all the boot order is established. Although I did have the Marvell take over the boot order a couple of times, it never caused the OS to not load as normal or cause any problems while in Windows. http://support.msi.com/

Notebook won't boot with usb device plugged
Hi,
Voila, I have a Satellite Pro Sp6100, when i try to boot it whith an usb printer plugged in, the notebook won't start at all. i have latest bios version 1.90.
Thx,
Barzot @+Hello
It will be interesting to know if the printer is ON or OFF when you start the unit. I have tested my Tecra M1 with USB stick and the boot up procedure needs about 5 min. If I put the USB stick out the unit starts as usual. -
Brandnew Lenovo M93 won't boot with USB device plugged in...
Since last week i got the Lenovo M93 with Intel i7-4770 CPU @ 3,40GHz. With 8 GB on board it's a real great machine!
The only thing i notice is when I boot the machine, it hangs on the opening screen, which says 'Lenovo'. Only after I remove all (2) USB connected HD's it advances and starts booting Windows. At that time i can reconnect the HD's
What can be the problem? The only 2 devices are external HD's which worked well on my 6 year old HP machine. One of them has an external powersupply.lugies wrote:
I restored to Windows 8 from the Lenovo disks, then upgraded to 8.1. I'm booting from UEFI bios, the external is 3TB and is MBR, which is the way it came from the store. Do you think it could be because its MBR partition style?I don't know how a hard drive of greater than 2TB cannot be GPT. At least that's what it is supposed to be. MBR is for 2TB or less. If it came from the factory as MBR, that sounds wrong to me. Unless only 2TB is "visible". All the reports on this forum (in a number of separate threads) about this same problem all talk about (1) Windows 8/8.1, (2) UEFI BIOS, and (3) external drives larger than 2TB. In my own "problem-free" case, it is (1) Windows 7, (2) legacy BIOS, and (2) external drive of 2TB. I'm not denying that there would seem to be a Lenovo problem in the UEFI BIOS, but getting a 3TB drive that's partitioned as MBR sounds wrong. How about if you just delete all partitions on it, and recreate new partitions... with GPT. Use Partition Wizard. Does it make any difference? Or can you still not boot successfully with the USB drive plugged in? -
P67A-GD65 : Boot sequence keeps changing after installing SSD
Hi,
Before I had the SSD, all was fine and running on IDE. After installing SSD and changing mode to AHCI, the boot sequence keeps changing after reboot. I did not reset the CMOS after installing the SSD. I had disabled all boot except for the SSD (which is connected to SATA Port 1). And I did save by pressing F10 after changing the sequence in BIOS.
Appreciate your advise.
Thank you.I have the same problem. The board decides to try and boot from some other device, even though the SSD is detected. Very annoying.
I'm using the sata cable that came with the board; e.g. brand new.

Windows 7 / Arch Linux Dual-Boot - win7 keeps changing the boot flag!
Greetings!
Its been a long while since I had to dual-boot with windows on the same machine.
I 've installed windows 7 and then arch linux and installed GRUB on my sda1 where the /boot partitions is located at.
I've managed to boot into arch successfully and later into windows also successfully.... but when i tried to boot into arch again I wasn't greeted with the typical GRUB boot screen... grub was ignored completely and win7 booting began as if it was the only OS in my hard drive.
I've used the gparted live cd and realized that the boot flag has changed from my /boot partition (sda1) to my windows partition (sda2). I've changed it back and I was able to boot into arch again. but when I rebooted to win7 and then to arch the same thing has happened. The boot flag keeps changing whenever im rebooting into windows making impossible for me to boot with GRUB unles I manually change the flag again.
I haven't installed GRUB into the MBR because I hear it is a bad practice when you have a windows OS also installed (something with service packs not being able to install, among other things). I also don't want to use the easyBCD method to boot arch using the win7 loader.
here is the partition scheme on my 500gb sata drive :
/dev/sda1 /boot 250mb (primary)
/dev/sda2 windows 7 ntfs 100gb (primary)
/dev/sda3 swap 4gb (primary)
/dev/sda5 / 16gb (logical)
/dev/sda6 /var 8gb (logical)
/dev/sda7 /home the rest of the hd space (logical)
What am I doing wrong and how do i prevent the boot flag from changing?
Thanks in advance for any help you can give me!

this just looked cleaner to me.
if anyone has figured out how to prevent windows from automagically changing the bootgflag, id like to know !
but maybe this is a question more suitable for a windoze forum

/edit: seriously, ive been searching the net for some time now, including irc chans and there seems to be no solution to this ! all threads similar to this just end dead !
i hate how windows claims to own my computer!
1. don't necrobump
2. as mentioned in the thread, just install grub to mbr and chainload windows. It works just fine and is the easiest way to get it working reliable. -
P67A-GD65 B3 HDD Priority queries
Hi,
Just checking if it is normal for the HDD boot priority to be reset everytime I plug in a new drive? I've got an external USB HDD that I use for archival purposes and everytime I plug in the drive and do a reboot the first HDD connected to the Marvell controller will become the first drive. My primary boot drive is connected to the Intel SATA III 6Gbps port. This will occur again everytime I remove the same drive from my computer and plug it in again... which is pretty often

Yup! Best to connect the external after booted into OS. Then use 'Safely Remove Hardware' before shutting down & remove the device. -

At times I'll get stuck at B4 or 98 error code for a good 5-15mins plus. I will either have to wait it out or press reset until it boot properly. Even when it gets passed this issue I still have to wait a while looking at the windows start up animation. I'm using a 2500k right now, my i920 system only displays the animation once before proceeding into windows.
The major issue is the B4/98 issue. I have tried a lot of things to no availability. If all else fails I will send this board back to Amazon and pick up an Asus or w/e.

P67A-GD65 (B3 )boot problems
I've built my box around mid-December (2011) and ever since, I've experienced the same issue as well.
The very first time it happened, I ran the repair tool, but just like others said, it could not repair it. I DID NOT have have MSI control center installed for the first few weeks and yet the random reboots at the windows logo still happened, so I'm certain it is NOT an MSI control center issue (at least in general).
Yes, it is very hard to pinpoint, just like others said. Most of the time it boots just fine. On those rare occasions (maybe once every 20-40 boots) I just let it reboot automatically and then it's all fine.
I'm NOT an overclocker at all, so I have everything set as it is out of the box and aside from this random, occasional reboot everything works fine.
I don't remember which bios version originally I had, either 1.C/D/E, but I upgraded to 1.G and it still does it, and did before the bios upgrade. Currently 1.E is the latest which I don't have.

Win 7 x64 UltimateOk, so I just want to recap on this issue. It seems my machine is stable now.
I have reinstalled windows about 4-5 times this week, trying to test what the problem might be. Wasn't sure if it's a driver, the service pack (1) or maybe the order of installation messed something up. So I wanted to start clean the various installations/testing. None helped.
So I noticed there was a new BIOS update available with v 1.I (dated 01/12/2012). As a side note, I don't understand why they post version numbers with letters (A, B, C, D, etc) but in the BIOS or in other programs, such as CPU-Z, they report the version number with numbers. Anyhow.
So I installed this BIOS. That didn't solve it either. But while I was running the OS, I noticed my BIOS LED is flashing, so my primary BIOS failed. It still booted and ran fine. I just didn't understand why did the primary BIOS failed since the BIOS update tool (downloaded from this forum, reported the flash was successful.)
I cleared the CMOS, reset the BIOS to default values, installed windows 7 ultimate x64 using AHCI and IDE mode. None made any difference. Still experienced random reboots at the Starting Windows screen (but it rebooted only once - consequent reboots were fine).
So I used the dual BIOS to re-flash the primary with the secondary. The secondary had BIOS v 1.11 (dated 04/20/2011). So now I'm running this version. Lo and behold (and also knock on wood) I don't have any random reboots so far. That's about 5 days now.
So I want to close this thread by saying, that it seems there was some issue with the new BIOS releases (I only used 1.G and 1.I) but reverting to the original one (which is in the secondary BIOS - 1.11) makes my machine ran stable without random reboots - so far.
I think this is how I'm going to leave it. This works. As they say, if it ain't broken don't fix it, so this is the BIOS version I'll stick with.

Network name keeps changing with Print Share
I have 3 iMacs on a network using a Brother MFC-9840CDW printer. My computer is set for print sharing. I keep getting messages that the name of my computer is already in use on this network and it keeps adding a higher number at the end of the name. But as soon as it does that, the other computer cannot print until I change my computer name back to the previous number. It works for a while, and then I get the network name error message again.
What can I do to resolve this? Thanks.New MB user. have windows network. installed printer CUPS driver for my brother 7820N printer. can print when connected directly with USB. MB recognizes printer when not connected directly...must be going through the wireless network. try to print and little printer icon on DOCK starts jumping...says printer is Off-Line. can see the files in the queue.
Any ideas on how to make the printer "on-line"? Thank you. -

ITunes Country Keeps Changing with iTunes Match
I moved & my iTunes Match is registered to a different iTunes store than the one I want use on Apple TV.
It used to work with the Apple TV being in one country & iTunes Match in another without signing out but now it keeps changing the store for the entire Apple TV.
Is there any workaround or way to fix this?I've found it's better if you sort the list view by "album by artist" rather than just "album" (by clicking on the heading to cycle through the options). Then the tracks stay in their proper order regardless if iTunes has helpfully(!) edited the new "album artist" field.
Still, I'd rather it didn't edit tags without telling me. It's not quite cricket....

P67A GD65 (B3) - Boot Up Problem
Every time I cold boot, I get the initial beeps, then it hangs on a black screen, with 98 in the bottom right hand corner. I have to turn the computer on and off another one to five times, before it boots up normally.
I have updated to the latest bios, disconnected every USB device, but the problem still occurs and once in Windows, I get no BSOD's whatsoever, so I'm running out of ideas.
Any ideas, before I go to Tech Support?
Thanks,

Yes. Please try it without a HDD connected. If it completes POST quickly, then it is either that one single HDD that was connected, or the Intel or Marvell controllers are most likely faulty. That would mean RMA of the mainboard for sure.
Edit: Rather than RMA, if a bad controller could be identified, Intel SATA II or III, or the Marvell SATA III, the good controlled ports could still be used. Would limit the connectivety choices though.
I tried it with no HDD's connected, no joy mate.
I've also just installed another PSU and the problem is still there, so I'm giving up and sending it back.
Cheers for your help mate, but I've given this problem a LOT of time and money and enough is enough.
