P67A-GD65 (B3)- Crashes during use

hi
I am running a P67A-GD65 (B3) motherboard based PC, with:
a Intel I5 core (2500k) (currently no overclock)
MSI Twin Frozr II (GTI 560-Ti)
Corsair Vengeance RAM (2x4 GB, 1600Hz, stock speed (yes, I know, waste of money, but they were going cheap))
with 2 Seagate HDDs
HP X23 monitor
On windows 7
During use, the computer crashes, usually after at least 10 mins. Despite two format and reinstalls of windows, and having a PC repairman have a look at it. Memory tested, Bios settings reset, Bios Flashed, GPU drivers updated, temperatures tested (via software) and finally, motherboard sent back to Scan for testing (no fault detected, sent at the advice of the PC repairperson)
Any suggestions? Idealy, I would replace each component with a equivalent, but sadly, most everyone I know is using laptops or Macs ( )
My next option, after this, would be to resort to replacing components with el cheapo equivalents (starting with the cheapest, RAM) until it works. Is this likley to work?, since I can only afford to do so for the RAM and perhaps a cheap mobo.

1600Hz, stock speed
Please manually reduce the memory clock speed to DDR3-1333 and set the DRAM Voltage to ~1.575V.  Also, manually set the memory command rate to 2T.  Then retest.

After installing 8.2 on my iPad (2nd gen) all the apps crash during use. It appears that the iPad saves a version of what I was using because after the app crashes I double press the home button an there is a screen of an older version of the page I was using. I swipe it away and start over, only to have the same thing happen again. I have reinstalled all the apps, rebooted, synced and re-synced with iTunes. This is VERY irritating!

That's one of the weird things.. it recognizes it maybe 10% of the time. And usually, only after I do the two-button reset. Problem is.. since it won't charge above 2%, anytime I try to do a restore or anything like that using iTunes, my device shuts off and I lose whatever progress I'd made.
So, an update... after reading through a bunch of similar complaints (there are literally 1000's of them so there's NO WAY this isn't somehow ios7 related, thanks a lot APPLE ) I decided to try a restore in recovery mode. After 3 hours and several disconnections... I ended up having to just set it up as a new iPad, as the restore did nothing. Weirdly though... as I was doing the restore in recovery mode.. I noticed I'd gotten up to a 10% charge.. higher than it's been since September, so after setting it up as a new device, I turned it off and plugged it in using the wall charger. 2 hours later and I was up to 38%. Still not great, as my iPad, before ios7 could've fully charged twice in the amount of time it took for me to now get 28% more of a charge. And that's with a fully cleaned out device.. so that really ***** and I'm now more confused than ever.
But I'm gonna leave it overnight charging and see what I come up with tomorrow. Sadly, when I paid $600 for it in February, I never expected to have to play "wait and see" with it...

  • HELP--BDOD--iPhoto5 continually crashing during use

How can I stop the constant crashing of iPhoto5 during use? I don't lose anything and am not doing anything complicated but it is very annoying to have to continually force quit and then reopen. My husband got the exact same computer (powerbook G4) at the same time and he does not experience this problem.
    Any help greatly appreciated!!

  • Help with OC settings for P67A-GD65 with i5 2500k using v1.E BIOS

Right, I have overclocked quite a bit before, but it was a years ago and on AMD's. Now I have a system worth pushing again and I'm not familiar with a lot of the terms in the BIOS anymore!
Have been reading through the various threads on OC'ing this Mboard, but something thats frequently mentioned is problems with older BIOS's and voltage settings, which v1.E is supposed to fix.
I'm looking to get a stable 4.6ghz with low power usage during idle and under load temps of 65-70deg (if poss).
I don't know whether to use the approaches others have used to get round this issue or is this now not a problem?
If so, what settings should I be using?! Getting a lil confused.
Englishman's thread (https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=146272.0) has helped a bit, but I fear I may have misunderstood and cocked some of it up!
So, here's the settings I'm trying atm, will be doing an overnight Prime95 torture test, but what do you guys think? Any corrections/improvements?
Dunno how to post pics on forum so will just type all that I can think is relevant. If I've missed anything, ask and I'll post.

Hey AngelD69! I noticed we have almost the same specs so I might as well share my settings.  So far, it's rock solid... (Although when using IBT, I still seem to have throttling issues.  It's prolly coz of beta bios.)

  • Safari keeps crashing during use

Can someone please take a look at this report, and tell me what you see. I need to learn how to read the crash reports, but in the mean time, I would like to get this user's Safari working. The user states that when she is booking reservations or using Google Docs Safari will unexepedidly quit.
    Thanks in advance.

  • P67a-GD65 System Freezes and Recovers During 3D gaming and Online Video

    The Problem:
Temporary system freeze with audio stutter. The system recovers 30sec - 2min later.
Key presses made during freeze will execute after system recovers (ctrl+alt+delete for example)
Usually, but not always, I see an error message in the system tray and I do NOT experience bsod.
This happens seemingly at random from 3D accelerated applications, and web browsing. Games such as BF3 (moderate), WoW (seldom), Planetside 2 (frequently), Minecraft (seldom), Hawken (seldom), etc.
Also happens frequently in both Internet Explorer 9/10, Firefox, Chrome, and Steam store browser. Typically when watching steaming video (youtube, HULU, flow player, etc)
but Pandora audio streaming also seems to create the conditions where this happens.
    Error Message:
"Display driver stopped responding and has recovered
Display driver NVIDIA Windows Kernal Mode Driver 314.07 stopped
    responding and has successfully recovered"
The problem also shows up in the Windows reliability history with the following data:

    My System Hardware:
    CPU: Intel i7 2600k @ 4.5ghz
    Motherboard: MSI p67a-gd65 (B3 stepping)
    Memory: G.SKILL Sniper 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600
GPU: Originally MSI 6950 2GB. Replaced with EVGA 670 FTW 2GB.
PSU: CORSAIR HX Series HX850 850W
    HDD: 3x Western Digital WD RE4 WD5003ABYX 500GB in Raid 0
OS: Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 with all updates
Case/Cooling: Silverstone Raven 2E with Thermalright silver arrow cpu heatsink
    What I've tried:
Updated all motherboard drivers and bios (4.3) to current versions (no improvement)
Updated display drivers (in safe mode with driver sweeper. No improvement)
Updated Realtek Audio drivers for onboard sound (no improvement)
Updated Intel Rapid Storage drivers (no improvment)
Cleared CMOS and tested system at default settings with no overlock (no improvement)
Flashed 6950 back to 6950 stock bios and removed overclock (no improvement)
Replaced old 6950 with new GTX 670 (problem still occurs in the same exact way)
Tried GPU in 2nd PCIe slot. No improvement.
Checked GPU Temps. GTX 670 fan profile in EVGA Precision X set to keep temp below 70 degrees Celcius. Card maxes at 60 degrees under heavy gaming load.
Complete reformat of raid array with fresh install of Windows (4 different times) Seemed to help for a few days, then freezes came back
Ran OCCT and Prime 95 Torture tests separately for a few hours at stock and OC settings. System stable with core temps of high 50's overclocked, and low 40's stock.
Ran Memtest86 for 10 hours with zero errors.
Used digital multimeter to test 12v rail on PSU. Noted solid 12v reported. Didn't test other rails.
Unplugged PSU cables from motherboard and reattached firmly
Ran HD Tune and Data Life Guard Tools for error checking on hard disks. Zero errors found.
    Disabled Windows Aero (no improvement)
Updated Adobe Flash Player to latest setting (no improvement)
Removed Adobe Flash Player (no improvement)
Turned off Adobe Flash hardware acceleration (no improvement)
*EDIT: Forgot that I also adjusted Nvidia driver profiles for apps that have frozen to include power preference to max performance
All of my hardware with the exception of the new 670 was purchased and configured back in February of 2011. This problem first occured in BF3 multiplayer sometime in early 2012,
and has gradually been happening more frequently. Web searches found many individuals with this error, but the solutions are all over the map, and I've tried just about everything that I've found.
I think I've narrowed the problem down to the motherboard, but I just can't find a clear answer or solution. Maybe it's the raid array? I really thought replacing the GPU would solve my trouble here
and I was...NOT happy when it happened again with the new 670 that I scored for $250 after amazon gift cards. I typically get kicked/disconnected during online game play when this happens and I'm ready to be done with it. I was hoping to fix the issue without needing to buy new hardware, but I don't see any other way at this point.
My patience runs thin. Please help!

Might want to ask for the special archive to return the mainboard to pre-Ivy support UEFI/BIOS and then test again with everything set to auto/stock/default.
Already tested that before updating to 4.3.  I started having the problem on 1.8, then 1.J0, then 4.3.

Just a shot in the dark.
The length of time that your CPU has been running at the OC could have accelerated the eventual degradation.
Have you tested your CPU in another board or do you have access to a "known good" CPU to test in your system ?
I do not have another 1155 lga board to test the cpu in unfortunately, hence the CPU stress testing.  Based upon previous experiences with multiple overclocked systems that I've run at much more aggressive overclocks, I don't believe I'm seeing a processor failure, though I can't rule out the possibility.

Quite a few components can cause this.
Do you have a friend that could lend you a psu to test? A weak of failing PSU can often be the cause of something like this?
No I don't have another PSU to test. I did use a digital multimeter to test the 12v rail, as well as the motherboard contacts for testing voltage to the cpu and system  They were all right in line with what I'm seeing reported in the bios.  I did not test these contacts while the system was under load however, so I may need to do it again.

  • MSI's own Control Center hard crashes my comp (P67A-GD65)

So I just got a P67A-GD65 B3 board, with an i5-2500K and I got it all set up and put together. The thing runs great, quiet, cool, etc. I'm currently at stock speeds and settings. However, I did NOT use the MSI CD to install drivers. Instead, I used the website so I had the latest versions of all these drivers. Anyways, I installed pretty much everything but the TPM Modules and RAID tools.
So, when I pull up the Control Center, the main screen displays fine. However, as soon as I click the Cooling tab to check temperatures, the computer locks up hard and the sound emits a strange audible buzz through the speakers. I have no clue why this is happening, and furthermore, I'm disappointed this is happening on a very stock build. I literally installed the components, installed Win7 x64, installed the drivers, then tried to check the temps. That's it.
I have successfully used SpeedFan to check my temps, so I know it's not some issue with probing the sensors. Does anyone else  have this problem, or know of a solution? I think it's kind of silly that MSI's own control center for their mobo's crashes the computer.

Seriously, this is kind of ridiculous. MSI needs to get their stuff straight. Others are having this same problem.
I trust you did report this to MSI technical as per earlier responses in this post. Posting opinions out of frustration does not add value, nor does it assist in fixing the problem. This forum's prime objective is to gather factual information in an attempt to anlayse the problem and then employ the user community to post potential solutions. >>Please read and comply with the Forum Rules.<<
If others are having the same problem, then they also need to report this to MSI technical, being as comprehensive as possible. As I mentioned before, it seems a 64bit OS symptom.

  • Disk Utility crashed during partition and DOUBLED partition use - now it's full?

    This one has me stumped.
1TB Disk - NON-start-up - had about 450GB of data files on it.
Split it with disk partition so I could reclaim free space.
Disk Utility crashed during the partition.
    Relaunched Disk Utility.
Now shows 900GB of the disk are used.
Tried to repair disk with Disk Utility, "Can't Unmount Disk"
Have rebooted now and am trying to find out WHAT that other 450GB of space taken up actually is. (using WhatSize).
Anyone have any clues what the heck is going on? I now no longer have any space to duplicate the partiion files to (though on another drive completely). I can still access the files but not sure what that other space hog could be....?
    Thanks anyone.

Techtool Pro was able to determine the directory structure was fubarred - repairing it corrected the structure to report the size correctly.

I using FF-5-Stable. It much slower than Google Chrome 13. & crash during upload ??
it takes too much time to open a page.
Always Crash during upload..for big or small file..
It hangs and closed through Task manager or Reboot...

    1. What are you "uploading"?
    2. Have you tried a new Profile? Profiles don't last forever, and after going through a few major version updates "things" slow down, depending upon how much stuff the user has added to Firefox. Personally, I have created a new Profile for every new version of Firefox I have installed, up through Firefox 4.0. Didn't do that for Firefox 5, and probably won't for Firefox 6, due to the new fast release schedule and the fact that Firefox isn't being changed as much from one version to the next as it used to be changed under the 10 to 14 month intervals between major versions.<br />

  • P67A-GD65 major issues

I'm having some major problems with my P67A-GD65.  I received this board from an RMA about 2 weeks ago (previous board had the no and/or corrupt ME issue), installed it and have had zero issues until two days ago.  I was playing a game when the game crashed.  I didn't think anything of it and started up again but the crashes continued from that point on (game has been installed and played without issue for 2 weeks, since new RMA).  I did a restart and upon reboot several windows services and other apps all crashed.  I checked event viewer and noticed all the crashes are listed under the same event ID (event ID 1000, Exception code: 0xc0000005).  At this point I scheduled at disk check (using windows 7, enabled both fix file system errors and scan for bad clusters), I let the scan run it's full course (took several hours) and there were zero errors.  I decided to reintall my OS and see if I had any better luck, thinking perhaps the game crash caused some freak, one of kind, system error.
As soon as the OS was running again, I was immediately greeted with more of the same errors.  This time searchindexer.exe crashed over 100 times, until I got a BSOD (bad_pool_caller stop 0x000000C2).  I rebooted and there were no errors, again checking the event viewer, I saw the same event ID 1000 with same exception code (also, this The Windows Search service terminated unexpectedly.  It has done this 138 times, bear in mind this occurred in a 10 minute time period).  I tried to install some of my drivers, only to have my sound drivers refuse to install with a CRC error and my video drivers install, then immediately had the catalyst service crash upon reboot.  I was afraid perhaps it was my SATA port going bad so I moved my HDD from SATA 8 to SATA 1 (avoiding all the Intel ports) but this didn't help the issue at all.  Is it possible I got a bad RMA board from MSI?  Any ideas on things I can check out?  It's odd it was working fine for the first two weeks.
I mention the problems beginning with the game crash because something odd happened after the crash.  I was playing a game within Steam.  Right after the crash, steam no longer worked.  As soon as I tried to start steam again, it would crash and quit immediately.  I had to do a complete reinstall of Steam to get it working again.  I do have UAC disabled so is it possible by some freak occurrence the game crash could have damaged my OS install?  Again, I did a complete reinstall since then though and had no improvements.

I just wanted to add a few of the errors from event viewer:
Session "Circular Kernel Context Logger" stopped due to the following error: 0xC0000188 (event id 3)
{Registry Hive Recovered} Registry hive (file): '\??\C:\Windows\System32\config\COMPONENTS' was corrupted and it has been recovered. Some data might have been lost. (event id 5)

  • HELP! My 2011 MSI P67A-GD65 (B3) build suddenly refuses to boot

Hello, I am new to this forum because I hadn't had any troubles yet.
I built my system in July/August 2011. Here's what it has:
    MSI P67A-GD65 (B3)
Intel Core i7-2600K Sandy Bridge CPU
    16GB Corsair Vengeance 240-pin DDR3 1600
    650w Corsair Enthusiast PSU
MSI N460GTX Cyclone 1GD5/OC GeForce Graphics Card
    1x 2TB Hitachi 7K3000 7200RPM SATA 6 GB/s (With Windows 7 64-bit installed)
    2x 3TB Seagate 7200RPM SATA 6 GB/s (For storage)
I have used this computer for graphics and video editing...it has served me faithfully. Yesterday evening while editing a Word document, I got "do you want to save your changes before exiting?" and of course I said yes. Then to my surprise my computer proceeded to shut down and reboot. At first I thought maybe I missed a Windows Update message telling me it would reboot in xxx minutes so I was not alarmed. But then as I watched it reboot, it gave me the POST message that there was no disc drive recognized. I thought that was weird since I never noticed it before. But then after the BIOS screen with the MSI graphics thing I was faced with a blank screen except for a flashing cursor two inches from the top of the screen. When I realized that this wasn't going to leave, I got a bit worried so I did a reset through my tower's button and same thing happened...I unplugged everything and let it sit for a few minutes... restarted 10 minutes later....same thing. Did it again and then went into my BIOS to look around. It showed no HDD's connected and I had 3 hooked up. I was concerned my HDD went bad so I connected it to another pc and accessed it with no trouble as another storage...I was happy my files are all there. So then I reconnected to my original build and got the same POST message, but this time the drives were visible in BIOS....but still no boot.
I have another blank SATA HDD so I removed all my HDD's and connected it by itself along with my SATA DVD drive and I tried to do a clean Win7 install on it. But at the point in the install process where it asks WHERE you want to install Windows, no drives showed up. So that door was closed. I tried the same thing again after swapping SATA port locations, thinking 1 was defective, but I got the same treatment from all of them...nothing recognized during the install process, although the drives are showing up in BIOS....
I think I know why the POST message is saying 'no drives detected,' though...I read it is saying that based on the SATA ports being used...I have 8 SATA's on my MOBO...4 6gb/s; 4 3gb/s. 7-8 are 6gb/s and ONLY when I have a HDD plugged into one of them does it show on the POST screen...which I still think is weird, and seems to have just started happening last night with the rest of the problems...but I could live with that since I could disable the message in BIOS I think.
But I have tried to clear the CMOS...all three ways...jumper, button, battery. I reset BIOS thru BIOS.... Nothing changes. BTW, in BIOS I ran a RAM memory check and it passed. Besides, I am not hearing any weird beeps...related to that....
I don't know why this would happen after working perfectly for 2 years... And why would it politely shut down in the beginning of the process anyways? I mean...I appreciated being asked to save my changes...but I don't know what else to do...PLEASE OFFER SUGGESTIONS...any help is appreciated.
Thank you in advance...I hope someone can help me! I am still covered by warranty...but I want to do this right.
    Thanks!
    Marie
EDIT: BTW, I have also tried unplugging everything from the pc except for the DVI and power plug in case that was interferring....

On a slightly different topic...would it work (I have never done this!) to take my OS HDD and boot it on another PC? I am thinking this would not work because of system files and etc., but I have always wondered this and now would be the best time for me to know
It mostly works if the components used aren't too special. As you have no RAID setup it should work. However you will need to reactivate Windows once it made it. Of course you will also need all drivers for the new machine. Be aware that you might not be able to connect to the internet before you installed the proper driver for the ethernet adapter.

  • P67A-GD65 rebooting loop

I have the constant rebooting problem, its the same problem (mine turned on for about 7 secs before shutting down) as many others. It worked perfectly before I took the motherboard out to get the serial number (as shown thats supposedly the only place to find it). I put it back in, turned it on, then noticed a serial number on the box. And when i booted it, it shut down again. I took everything out, made sure ALL the connections were not loose, turned it on again. I smelled something funny this time.. I turned it on once more, lo and behold there was a little bit of smoke.
If this helps, I used a magnetic screwdriver when screwing the screws in, and I think i might have touched the gold part on the screw holes and im not sure if that has something to do with it or not, but i think it might. I had to RMA it to newegg, still have yet to pack it up.. also about 4-5 other people giving reviews to that same motherboard on newegg showed the same problem (minus the smoke). Also the smoke I saw was around the south bridge area if this helps, which was ironically right at the end or near the end of my graphics card.

Also the smoke I saw was around the south bridge area if this helps, which was ironically right at the end or near the end of my graphics card.
    Smoke... Never a good sign!
Is there any visible damage to the component that you might have spotted during the time it smoked?
How many times did you attempt to restart the PC after the reboot?
Did you have any BIOS details that appeared on the screen during the 7 sec?
Try to remove the MB carefully and check to see if you haven't maybe lost a screw underneath the MB whilst putting it back!

no trust me, I had this thing working up until i did this, and then I didn't even take any of the cables out of their m-connectors and I even took a some pics of how it was arranged before i did it and referenced them when I re-did it.

That's what someone told me what might have happened during the time when my 8 pin was unplugged, it might have overloaded a component?
    This is contradictory!
Did you or did you not remove any wires?

  • P67A GD65 Lagging at Boot

I've been running this board for a few years now, never given me any problems except for the fact that my keyboard (a gaming one) wouldn't function properly prior to Windows loading, meaning I couldn't select an option with it during startup.  Annoying, but it didn't seem to important.  Eventually I discovered that later BIOS update added support for gaming keyboards and so I decided to update.  I updated to version 1.19 and I also updated a number of my drivers.  I then encountered a problem with my USB devices, which now appears to be resolved (in brief the computer claimed a phantom drive existed and that the device was not functioning properly) but I have now developed a problem at boot.
For as long as I have had it, when the board boots I get a screen with a blinking underscore in the top left and a two digit hexadecimal in the bottom right that changes, shortly afterwards it attempts to load from the Marvell SATA 3 ports (there's nothing plugged into them so it quickly moves on but I've often wondered if there's a way to stop it from checking in the first place) then it returns briefly to the underscore before displaying the MSI boot logo and booting Windows, all of this happening in about 5-10 seconds.  Now however, it hangs at the underscore page, both times it visits, for about 30 seconds each time.  The underscore doesn't blink, it's just constantly on and the number is static.  This happens whether booting from cold or rebooting the system.
Does anyone know what might be causing this, or a way to fix it?  Once booted the machine functions completely normally.
    Specs:
    MoBo: P67A GD65
    Processor: i5 2500k @3.3GHz
    RAM: 8GB Corsair Vengeance
    GPU: nVidia GeForce GTX 560Ti
Booting Windows 7 from 120GB OCZ Vertex 3 SSD
Any help that can be offered would be much appreciated.

It was this: link.  It was very cheap, bought primarily because it gave me front facing USB 3.0 ports (which are plugged into the motherboard USB 3.0 at the back).  Unfortunately, while the booting issue now seems to be resolved the stability issue isn't, I got the exact same BSOD five minutes ago.  I'm assuming this has all started because I updated my BIOS to make it support my keyboard.  Should I try reinstalling the BIOS?  Or install an earlier version?  What about the drivers listed on the MSI page (Intel Management Engine Driver, Intel Chipset Driver, et al.)?  I updated those when I updated my BIOS, I thought correctly but I could be wrong, what's the right way for me to check them?
Currently the times when it has crashed have been when I close Firefox pages (often Youtube) and when I play Minecraft.  The crashes are always sporadic and unpredictable, sometimes everything is fine, and then it suddenly goes.  A part of me wonders if it has something to do with an important file being stored on my secondary data hard drive which seems to try and spin up just before it crashes, but I'm not sure how I would go about checking for that problem, if it could even be the cause.
