P67A-GD65(B3), new BIOS 4.3 and power phases

The old BIOS for P67A-GD65(B3) offered APS, Intel SVID and disabled as options for the power phases in the BIOS. The newest BIOS has no such option so I have to wonder whether APS and intel SVID are still around or all power phases options are set to disabled.
I have 2 of those mainboards. In the first one the BIOS is upgraded to 4.3. The system has a Pentium G860 (Sandybridge) and a Corsair HX750 psu. Control Center reports system to have 1 phase active while idle but the phase system itself is reported as disabled. It is not reported as either Intel SVID or APS. This seems to be wrong though cause when system goes to full load all phases go active again.
The other mainboard has an i5 2500K and was using BIOS v1.19. I had set the phase system to Intel SVID and indeed the phases changed between idle and full load. In a stupid attempt to benefit from Intel's rapid start technology that is supported on the latest BIOS and despite my better judgment I upgraded the BIOS to v 4.30. I had lots of issues with overclocking the CPU so I downgraded to 1.19 using the forum tool and the custom BIOS file. I may need to do a fresh installation of windows but according to the leds on the mainboard and the Control Center I can't get the mainboard to lower the phases even when idle. I've tried Intel SVID and APS in the BIOS but I had no luck. C1E is enabled along with every other energy saving feature. Currently and most of the time the i5 is running on stock clocks. I did notice that during the original upgrade from 1.19 to 4.30 in the BIOS the Intel ME was also upgraded from v7 to v8. I am not sure if the forum tool that reverted back the BIOS to v1.19 took care of the intel ME.
So I wanted some clarification to what happens with the power phase system in the new BIOS (4.3) and a bit of help in regards to the other system that for the time being seems incapable of lowering CPU phases. The second system is using a Coolermaster Silent M 1000W psu. Both mainboards are equipped with 16GB of Corsair (XMS1600) memory. Both systems use aftermarket coolers that keep the temperature reasonably low while being very quiet. I could list the rest of the specs but I don't think they will matter much.

The v4.3 was intended for those that decide to install an Ivy CPU. There must have been a reason why some of the features or settings were modified or eliminated to accomodate Ivy support. It may be best to ask this question directed towards the MSI Technical engineers.

As for phases, it may depend on how many applications are running in the background.

  • P67A-GD65 1.4 Bios faulty? Which new bios is stable?

Hello I have a GD65 mobo running the 1.4 bios but I've had bad problems overclocking it wouldn't go above 4.2ghz at 1.25v, wouldn't even boot into bios at 1.35v at 4.6ghz (Machine Check Error). So I used the OC genie function, set it to 4.2ghz at 1.25v which is what I had before manually, that ran stable for a couple of hours. After I got up from bed today the machine once again won't boot into BIOS (Machine Check Error), so I pressed the clear cmos button a couple of time, then the BIOS setting became really messed up like cpu freq was 28.21ghz or the bios would crash if I clicked anything or I get Machine Error or flashing cursor when I boot up.
Long story short, pressed the clear cmos button several times but without going into bios the first time on start, after windows loaded, then restarted to go into bios, now it was stable and I could change settings without freezing, but I found it set my CPU to 46 multiplier and vcore auto and ram to 2133mhz without me giving it the instruction.
I'm thinking it's all to do with the faulty 1.4 bios? Am I right? Also is the newer BIOS stable? I don't want to my motherboard to be bricked, like this guy on youtube updated his bios to v1.7 and bricked his mobo.

  • P67A-GD65 & i7-2600K BIOS update

As the title of this topic states, I have a P67A-GD65 board with an i7-2600K CPU. I read a lot about updating the BIOS to version 4.x (current version is 1.19), but I got confused whether I can safely update the BIOS of my mainboard with this CPU or not. Some people seem to succeed and some don't. Is it possible to update the BIOS from 1.19 to 4.x with this combination of MB and CPU and if so, which exact version should I choose and is there anything I should absolutely not do wrong in the process?

All 4.x bios versions are meant for using Ivy Bridge cpus (ME8). In most cases overclocking Sandy Bridge cpus doesn't work with those or not properly. On the other hand all new versions work that way and a newer version is needed for supporting latest Geforce GTX7x0 vgas. So if you want to use latest stuff on your board switch to the latest bios (4.3). If no hardware change is planned stick to the latest Sandy bios (1.19).
If wanting to upgrade to 4.3 use the attached archive and >>use the MSI HQ Forum USB flasher<<. With the tool point to the attached and NOT unpacked bios archive (Mode1: Point to Archive) and let the tool prepare a flash stick for you.

  • P67A-GD65 (B3) new build

I have a question about a new build using the following hardware:
    Motherboard: MSI P67A-GD65 (B3)
    Memory: OCZ 3G1333LV8GK DDR3-1333 (2x4GB)
    CPU: i7-2600k
    GPU: EVGA GTX 580
Hard drives: 2 1TB Western Digital SATA (no RAID)
After Windows 7 is installed...should I install all of the software under the Driver download section on the MSI site?  Is all of it needed?  Is there an order to the install?
    Thanks or any info...

Why not simply install the drivers that are on the disc that came with the MB? Most of do not install the utility software or Live Update, just the drivers after OS is installed. 1st would be chipset/INF drivers and such and then the latest graphics drivers from NVIDIA website.

Hello everyone, Before I explain my problem these are the components I'm using.
    Motherboard:P67A-GD65 (B3)
    CPU:Intel 2600k
So just recently I flashed my BIOS to the most recent version which is 4.3. and before this I was running my multiplier at 4.5 with no issues. But now when I change my multiplier programs like CPU-ID and CoreTemp aren't reflecting the changes being made in my BIOS they just show the stock speed the CPU runs at which is 3.4GHz. But then windows shows that the changes have been made so I don't know what to believe. Also in the BIOS screenshot you can see at the top it says my CPU is running at 3.8 GHz You can check out the screen shots to see what I mean. Anyways my question is, Is my CPU really overclocked right now or is Windows lying to me and if it is, how can I fix this?

  • Z87-GD65 Gaming: New BIOS?

    Hello,
is there a new BIOS version available that can be used with the MSI Forum HQ USB flashing tool?
The current Bios on my mainboard is 1.A or 1.10, the version of the Forum flash tool I have is 1.25g, and the latest version of the Intel ME Driver I have downloaded is 10.0.0.1204.
    Thanks

    Hi Svet,
thanks a lot. It seems that the current MSI HQ Forum USB flasher is still "MSIHQ Tool 1.25g Installer.rar". I just want to be prepared with a new BIOS in case something goes wrong when I will finally change my intel onboard graphics into a nvidia discrete graphics card.
But one more question: Since there is also the use of FPT recommended in some other thread in regards to all LGA 1150 mainboards, supposedly with the use of the BIOS version from the MSI support site, is there any difference to using the Forum flash tool method together with the BIOS version you gave me other than having to prepare the USB stick myself when I use of FPT instead of the convenience of letting the Forum flash tool do this for me?
    Thanks again.

in A64 TWEAKER there is same option, Refresh Rate (TREF) , of course i am using the 200mhz, but can the 200mhz 15.6us cause to instabilty instead of the 3.9us ?
when ocing or not? how should i know if it causing any problems?
I am very very confused because i don't know how to oc right, i sometimes have crashes and blue screens when trying to oc, because always there is one option or setting that can make the instablity and to get real, there too Freaking many,
and how do i know for sure that Agressive timing doesn't causing to any errors or anything else? crashes and all kind.

  • New bios 7.60 and temp. raise?

Flashed my K7N2-ILSR Delta the other day with the newest bios, and since that day my temps have raised with about 10 degrees celsisus. Right now I have a cpu-temp of 56, and when active it goes up to 60-65. This is not good, is there something wrong with the new bios giving false readings? The temp was fine before and and all fans etc still work.
    Thanks!

Don't worry about it...it's a bad reading from the BIOS...there's a lot of discussion among everyone about the temps...
Get a Temp Sensor and mount it under your processor...that's the best way to know what it's really doing...

  • P67A-GD65 B3 new 1.D bios problem

I updated to the newest BIOS since I was redoing my computer anyways and now my mouse only moves up and down. It works when I'm in windows but not in the BIOS itself. My mouse is a logitech G700. Am I missing something or did this BIOS mess up compatibility with my mouse?
The good thing is, I can still use my keyboard so it's not the end of the world, but it would be nice if my mouse could work in the BIOS area.
Edit: Also, what are those numbers that pop up in the bottom right corner with the blinking line in the top left, when the computer boots up.
Edit #2: I tried the 1.D2 bios as well, everything is fine except the mouse.

Recently upgraded CPU from 4770K to 4790K on MSI Z87-GD65 and I'm getting reset freeze.
Screen goes black (no signal), fans are spinning and system stays in this state.
People say to update BIOS to 1.B (1.11) which is latest one but this did not solve the problem.
After restoring default settings in BIOS system reset correctly once and then it hangs again.
It doesn't matter if the reset is from windows or linux of from BIOS after saving changes.
I was flashing BIOS from BIOS menu using M-FLASH and pendrive.
    Any suggestion are appreciated.

  • P67A-GD65 (B3) - Latest BIOS Killed PC

I don't know what I was thinking downloading the latest BIOS when it clearly states recommended for Ivy Bridge only. I'm running with a Sandy Bridge i5.
    Problem is as follows:
Call of Duty : Black Ops 2 is doing some weird stuff like not displaying at 1080p without crashing and not being able to v-sync. This is the only game in my library that has this problem
So someone suggested I upgrade the BIOS which is a fair statement as mine was 1 year out of date. So, I copy the exe to the USB disk and let it do it's thing. PC reboots and powers up:
    - System power is OK (still not BIOS) but my 6950 GPU fan is doing something strange, then I remembered that I flashed it to a 6970 BIOS. Luckily it has a backup BIOS feature, so I switch back to default
    - The PC reboots and the BIOS updates / backs up the BIOS. Great.
    - PC now boot for 1 second then powers off, repeatedly for infinity
I've cleared the CMOS and tried another PSU, removed everything but the CPU, but it seems to clear that the mobo has some micro code that is preventing the CPU from starting. It was OC'd to 4.2 but clearing the CMOS should reset to factory. I don't know....
I'm a bit lost and have almost thrown in the towel. The PC is in bits at home now and I've contacted the reseller to see if they will kindly RMA it.
Strange thing is this mobo has a backup BIOS. How do I access when my PC doesn't boot?

    I am running a SB i7
My PC still boot (I JUST installed W8 x64)
It is is acting a bit weird.
Though I am not sure if it is the External USB 3.0 enclosure atm or the mobo.
    USB 3.0 speeds are sloooowwww.
Acessing the drive is slow as heck too, even if it use a 2.0 port.

  • USB enumeration takes up to 20 seconds after wakeup or bios boot on P67A-GD65

    Hi all,
Just bought my new rig. It is described in my signature. Unfortunately I found two issues with my current setup. The first issue is in a separate post.
I'm using a P67A-GD65 motherboard. My USB keyboard and mouse are immediately detected the first time I start up my computer (cold boot), but when I do a suspend (to S3) and resume it usually takes quite a while before the mouse and keyboard are enumerated again. I can see this as the mouse and keyboard light up when they are ready for use. It sometimes takes up to 20 seconds, but the delay differs everytime. Occacionally the mouse and keyboard are immediately lighting up after I press the resume button, which is the behaviour you expect. On my previous pc I never had issues with enumeration after a resume.
When I restart the PC, the bios usually gets stuck in Post code B4 (USB HOTPLUG) for quite a while as well. It is probably trying to enumerate the mouse and keyboard. This can also take up to 10 seconds. During a cold boot this does not happen and B4 is completed instantly.
This issue is quite annoying, as I have to wait for quite a while before I can use my keyboard and mouse after I wakeup the PC. It beats the principle of instant-on, and sometimes it is faster to cold-boot the thing.
    I tried both V1.7, V1.8 and V1.9B1 bioses.
When I disconnect one of the devices (only mouse, or only keyboard), the enumeration is usually quicker, but still takes up to 5 seconds.
Could this be a bug in the Sandybridge chipset (it is not stepping B3), or is it something in the BIOS? Are any others having this issue and found a solution?

I've red through the P67 errata about USB and all of them have the status "No Plan to Fix". As being quite familiar with the USB 2.0 specification (I've once written an USB driver for an embedded system myself) I do not see any issues mentioned that could be related to enumeration problems during cold boot or resume. This seriously doubts me that the B3 release will fix my issue.
I will also put this problem in MSI support, but knowing how they did reply in my other issue report about the mouse not working in my BIOS I'm not so sure if they will take it seriously....

  • P67A-GD65 bios update

My P67A-GD65 came with bios 1.4. I'm having some problems with memory, and am hoping that 1.7 fixes it.
When I update to 1.7, I can't save any changes to the bios, it just hangs. Fortunately, I was able to downgrade back to 1.4 (thankfully I saved it first).
Anyone else have this issue? No a way to fix it?
