P67A-GD65 rebooting loop

I have the constant rebooting problem, its the same problem (mine turned on for about 7 secs before shutting down) as many others. It worked perfectly before I took the motherboard out to get the serial number (as shown thats supposedly the only place to find it). I put it back in, turned it on, then noticed a serial number on the box. And when i booted it, it shut down again. I took everything out, made sure ALL the connections were not loose, turned it on again. I smelled something funny this time.. I turned it on once more, lo and behold there was a little bit of smoke.        
If this helps, I used a magnetic screwdriver when screwing the screws in, and I think i might have touched the gold part on the screw holes and im not sure if that has something to do with it or not, but i think it might. I had to RMA it to newegg, still have yet to pack it up.. also about 4-5 other people giving reviews to that same motherboard on newegg showed the same problem (minus the smoke). Also the smoke I saw was around the south bridge area if this helps, which was ironically right at the end or near the end of my graphics card.

Smoke... Never a good sign!
Is there any visible damage to the component that you might have spotted during the time it smoked?
How many times did you attempt to restart the PC after the reboot?
Did you have any BIOS details that appeared on the screen during the 7 sec?
Try to remove the MB carefully and check to see if you haven't maybe lost a screw underneath the MB whilst putting it back!

  • BIOS 4.3 half flashed on MSI P67A-GD65 reboot loop ME not installed

    Hi, yesterday I tried to flash my bios from 1.19 (1.jo) to 4.3 and I followed the SOP guidelines. Made a flash fat32 got bios on it, started it, stopped all my applications under windows and it went with no error. PC Restarted and now it's in infinite reboot loop. The moment the MSI BIOS logo appears, the PC auto reboots.
    If I remove the usb drive or replace the bios file with another version it tells me it's not the file it needs. When I insert the one with the .43 file it goes back to reboot cycle. I tried resetting the CMOS with the button on the mainboard and I have this screen telling me BIOS is 4.3 and it has recognized all my 12gb ram, 2 hard drives and processor. Then it has press F1 to enter setup and press F2 to continue, both options result in reboot.
    I tried the 1.JO on flash, but it tells me again that it's the wrong file. Tried renaming it to amiboot as I found somewhere, but to no avail. Tried renaming the .43 to EIVB.bin as it was suggested in one forum, again no luck.

    I wasn't sure about the ME update, read that someone managed. The Live Update 6 did my 1.19 (1.JO) update. I tried all usb slots and 3 different sticks, formated them and so on. Nothing worked. I tried disconnecting all hard drives and DVD drive too.
    Is there a way to stop this cycle or to restore to the 1.19 version?

  • P67A-GD65 reboot loop issues

    Seems like whenever I try to overclock my RAM or mess with the bios my tower would shut off and go into a reboot loop.
    What does this mean?
    Is my motherboard defective or is this what it does when a bios setting is messed up? The only way to fix the loop is to switch off the power supply and restart it that way. I've noticed it also does this if I use the MSI control panel to overclock my CPU sometimes.
    I'm starting to use MSI control panel and having much better luck overclocking compared to the MSI Bios. Is my chipset defective or is MSI's bios really this crappy...So annoying when it starts doing the reboot loop after adjusting acouple settings in the bios.
    I'll admit I'm not really an experienced OC'er so I might just not know what I'm doing. I tried upping the ram voltage to 1.65ish and OCing to 1600 with auto ram timing, but it just does the reboot loop after saving and exiting the bios. I haven't tried OCing my ram via the control panel, but upping my bclk on the control panel works well up to 105.5 bclk so far, while upping the bclk in the bios to even 100.1bclk does the reboot loop crap...I know upping the bclk is not reccomended, but I've had it at 105 on my other motherboard for over a month with no problems. I just got this board today and I'm having lots of issues with the bios...
    Anyways, I'm trying to get a ram oc of 1600. Could anyone help me in this regard thats savy with this motherboard?

    Not really, but the blue slots are the recommended slots to use. From what I am seeing, there is no XMP profiles for your RAM. What that means is, reaching a stable 1600 RAM speed may be a bit of a challenge, or possible. Recommend with setting 1600, to try CR 1 (or 2), 9 9 9 25, tRFC 88 (or maybe 103), @ 1.60-1.65v's & give it another try.
    Added: Actually, running the RAM at the settings shown in the Memory Tab, is not a bad thing. Having done a few tests, the performance difference between RAM at 1333 & 1600 is pretty low. Sometimes only a few FPS.

    Due to the inability to hold any overclocks with any voltage besides auto, and because the Windows MSI control center wouldn't keep settings on startup.
    Installed the forum flash tool on a USB drive and it wasn't bootable.
    Tried with another flash drive and it wasn't bootable.
    Used the on-BIOS tool to flash the BIOS
    Flashed, rebooted, and began reboot looping.
    Cleared CMOS - nope
    Removed battery and cleared CMOS - nope
    Removed all but one stick of RAM - nope
    Is it bricked? If so, how do I get a replacement/repair?
    Edit, was perusing the forums and found this:
    Forum flasher defaults to looking for zip files, if you pick rar from the drop down it should accept the file just fine, if you don't use method 1 you won't get the ME flashed.
    It's lovely that that's documented and pointed out in the flashing tool's post, and it's rather odd that all of the BIOSes are saved in .rar archives if the flasher looks for .zip. I used method 2.

  • For Those Experiencing the Infinite Boot Loop on P67A-GD65

    My story in a nutshell - bought the original (non B3) P67A-GD65 from Newegg on the first day it was available along with 8 GB (2X4 GB) Corsair Vengeance DDR3-1600 ram and Intel i5 2500k processor.  Received the items, hooked them up on a test bench (rubber mb supports so no grounding issues) along with a Corsair VX-550 P/S (both 24 pin and 8 pin leads plugged in), GTX-460 video card (2 PCI-E 6 pin connectors plugged in), the default Intel i5 heatsink and a known good USB KB and mouse.  Promptly experienced the infinite loop boot issue others have described - fans on h/s and video card spin up, 1st APS LED lights for a fraction of a second then all 6 light up for 3 to 4 seconds then APS LEDs go out and fans on h/s and video card spin down.  No beeps from speaker and no video signal to monitor.  After everything has stopped spinning (about 3 to 4 seconds), the power comes back on and the cycle repeats exactly the same way every time until I turn off the power supply.  Here is what I tried:
    1.  Used only 1 stick of ram (tried in all 4 slots)
    2.  Pulled 1 stick of DDR3-1600 ram from my working X58 system (again tried in all 4 slots)
    3.  Different power supply (OCZ 520-ADJ)
    4.  Known good PCI video card instead of GTX-460 (in case there was some problem with power draw)
    Under each of these changes, the same infinite boot loop occurred.  Called tech support, they walked me through each step I had already tried and finally suggested I RMA both the MB and the CPU to Newegg.  Did so and the replacements worked fine from the start.
    Then came the B2 stepping issue.  Notified both Newegg and MSI that I had one of the B2 boards.  Newegg notified me they had the new B3 boards in stock.  Arranged for cross shipment where they would ship me the new board and then I would return the old one.  Received the new one last Friday.  Put it on the same test bench as above and the same infinite boot loop is now happening on the new B3 stepping board.  Just to test, put the cpu, ram and GTX-460 video card back into the B2 stepping board and everything works perfectly.
    Another test, since some people reported the infinite loop problem when they had failed to plug in the 8 Pin power lead to the mb, I unplugged the 8 pin connector on the working B2 stepping board.  The infinite loop problem is entirely different in this case.  When you press the power switch, the fans start to spin and the first LED lights for less than a second.  Then the LED goes off and the fans start to spin down.  After everything has stopped, it repeats until the power supply is turned off.
    This is my first MSI motherboard after 15 years of Abit and Asus with the occasional Gigabyte or EVGA thrown in and I am not happy with the QC I have experienced with this board!
    So to summarize, 2 of the 3 P67A-GD65 boards I received from Newegg have had this infinite boot loop problem.  Apparently, I have to RMA again.  Am I lucky or what???!!!

    Frankly, I can understand your frustrations on the problem but it is not fair to judge a brand by looking at the number of complains in a forum. I can guarantee you, there are more RMAs out there from all other manufacturers even before an user even knows that a Forum ever exist for them to post for enquiry and most of them aren't an IT engineer or hardware engineer by self.
    If you want to compare, I have also been in this industry for more than 15 years and I have many DOA boards from other manufacturers as well and DOAs after RMAs are common to me. When you handle thousands of PCs, laptops and mainframes, such things are really common.
    Back to your problem. Maybe I didn't make it clear on how I want to describe on my previous post for your issue in words. I am referring to having a chance to let the system boot into BIOS or past BIOS after multiple times of rebooting, then you can try to flash the BIOS. This is also not uncommon as I have encountered systems which are problematic but are able to boot into Windows after 15 to 20 times of infinite reboots by itself.
    How about processor? Tested it in another system yet? Or is this another unless suggestion to you?

  • P67A-GD65 (b2) stuck in boot loop after bad flash

    My mainboard is stuck, I can't open bios setup, (even tho it appears in f11 menu), and it won't boot on any device.
    I removed every hard drive and DVD, and tried to boot on DOS with a usb, but it won't even boot DOS, and no usb device appears in f11 menu (I tried every usb ports)
    And I can't enter bios setup (it just reboots)
    Initially I was trying to update my bios because some features I wanted were not in my old version. But I think Avast blocked the update program (E7681v43.exe opened in an usb) and when I restarted the bios flash failed, and my PC entered a boot loop. When I press f11, it's a new interface so some things in the bios updated.
    The only message I get when I put the E7681v43.exe and E7681IMS.430, or the files for v1j (oldest version before ivy bridge support) on a fat32 usb stick (tried formatted, and formated with Rufus), a red message appears saying "bios me updated ... file not found."
    Same thing if I try the MSIHQ flash utility, it doesn't work as my PC won't boot on the usb.
    I think my motherboard is bricked and the only solution is to send it to msi to get a working bios.
    My motherboard p67a gd65 (b2) (the one with bad sata 2 ports) and it doesn't appear in the product name list anymore to register it on msi...
    It was bought the on the 19th of January 2011, I hope I can still ask for msi for help!
    I'm looking forward to your opinions on my issue, and sorry for the long text.

    I just build a p67a GD65 System i am an experienced system builder testing out on a cardboard surface after the system would not boot.
    Using corsair Vengence ddr 3 ram
    Coolmaster silent pro 800 W power supply
    Hyper 212 plus cooler
    2600k processor
    After the continuous loop i tested power supplies swapped them and got the same problem
    Then i got a clean cardboard box and started troubleshooting now the system, even barebone with the essential hardware only won't boot at all I do however see the green power light go on and OC genie light, light up when i press the power button but the system won't budge, I'm wondering if this is a bad processor or motherboard? I am leaning towards a bad mobo as these problems with this particular MSI board have been rampant.
    Just to add none of the bios LED's light up.

    I have a question crxer, does the OC Genie Light come on and stay on, or does it turn off? If it stays on then you have the OC Genie Button pushed in and you're trying to overclock the system right off the bat which you don't want to do, and that could be why the constant power cycling because of an OC failure.
    Not that this is similar to your problem, but I had a Z68A-GD65(B3) which gave me nothing but problems with overclocking and the the dual bios feature. I would get the power on recycling a few times every time I tried any OC and reboot whether by using the OC Genie button or manual OC, but it would then eventually boot. Mine would also give me the Bios LED coming on in all the different configurations telling me the primary bios failed or secondary or both but I was always able to re-flash the primary bios and the board was never bricked. You're not having that problem thank goodness.
    I am a very experienced builder and troubleshooter and tried everything to isolate the problem and make that Z68A board work, but to no avail, which is why I returned it to Newegg and replaced it with a MSI P67A-GD55(B3) shown in my signature, which is similar to your GD65 and it works perfectly with all the same components as I used on the Z68A-GD65(B3), and I have it manually OC'd it to 4.3 Ghz which is good enough for now. Good luck crxer. 

  • P67A-GD55 - Two beeps after turning on the reboots loop

    just installed a P67A-GD55 with a i5 2500k into my PC and everything was working fine, all drivers installed etc booted to Windows 7 no probs. Restarted and went into BIOS to check a few things then rebooted.
    PC starts, two beeps, then reboots, continuously.
    No BIOS LED flashing. So it seems two beeps means parity error. I've looked this up and mentions something about first 64k of mem check failed. To check RAM.
    So went through each slot with one RAM and tried different RAM too to make sure, no difference. So booted up with no RAM in. No beeps but PC just starts then reboots in a loop.
    Never got anything on the screen.
    Checked all connections, removed all hard drives etc no difference, unplugged USB cables etc so in end just had graphics card, one stick of RAM, CPU and power plugged in. Still two beeps.
    Reset CMOS still same, two beeps the reboot loop.
    Tried all sticks of RAM in another motherboard and i5 760 and boots fine so its not the RAM.
    Can't understand it as it worked fine at one point.
    Is my motherboard faulty ?

     When I start my computer sometimes it starts normal or I get the following warning;
     Reboot and select proper boot device.
     If this happens, its stays for a few seconds on A2 at the lower right corner , then MSI mainboard screen, and then the above warning.
     When i use the reset button, it starts normal or same problem.Sometimes i need to restart it like 5-7 times to get it started normal.

    When I turn off my pc at night, windows dont loading with the first time
    After POST I have black screen with blinking underscore - after reboot, windows loading is good. The same way is good loading, when I reboot PC from Windows, or turn off my pc for 10 minutes and turn on.

  • Z68A-GD65 G3 Reboot Loop

    I'm putting together a new build and I've run into a reboot loop.  When I attempt to start it up, it runs for about 5 seconds, then turns off.  This goes on in an endless loop.  It never gets to POST.  The 6 LEDs light up and the BIOS ones don't (so this appear normal).  I have never gotten a successful bootup.
    My setup:
    Motherboard: Z68A-GD65 G3
    CPU: Intel Core i5, i5-2500K
    Memory: Kingston HyperX (4x4GB DDR3 - 1600 CL9 240)
    Power Supply: OCZ ZX Series 850W
    CPU Cooling: Xigmatek Gaia SD1283
    I am not listing anything else, because I am not getting far enough for it to matter.
    I am running with only the above pieces connected to rule out all but the essentials.
    I've inspected the CPU and slot.  Both appear fine.
    I've cleared the CMOS using the button on the I/O panel and removing the battery.
    I've subbed out the Power Supply.
    Only the 8 pin CPU and 24 pin motherboard connections are made.
    I've tried various things with the RAM.  All 4, just 2, and just 1 (in the DIMM1 slot).  Most testing was done with just 1.  I have tried all 4 in the DIMM1 slot.
    I've removed it from the case and booted it up in the cardboard box (nonconducting) it came in, to rule out a short.
    I've inspected the motherboard carefully, no obvious issues.
    I've checked that the CPU cooler is making good contact with the CPU.
    I've verified that the OC button is not active, although I've tried that too.
    I've read through the forums, but have not been able to find a solution that works.

    I had this very same problem with a Biostar T-POWER I55 2 years ago, to cut a story short the retailer and the distributor who handled Biostar RMA's rejected the RMA.
    I spoke to Trading Standards/Consumer Direct as I read in the Sales Act that in the first 6 months of a purchase if the damage cannot be proven to be done by the end user then a warranty claim still exists.
    Finally after stating this & quoting the Trading Standards Reference number to the retailer, I got a call from them saying they would offer a refurbished motherboard worth £113, my original motherboard cost £138 so I refused this & asked if they would agree if I could purchase a brand new alternative for (£75ish) around 50% of its purchase value to which after another day they rang back & agreed.
    You are not the first and won't be the last this has happend too, One manufacturer will cover for warranty in these circumstances because I asked them.
    I suppose you could get a 2 year warranty via Amazon, small expense for peace of mind which covers you for Accidental damage as well as mechanical failure, quite good if the  motherboard pins snap off the motherboard.

  • MSI Z87-GD65, Freezing while gaming, then reboot loop/bsod/total failure.

    Hey fellow MSI'ers
    Im hoping to find a solution for my problem i have been getting. I build a custom gaming rig a few months ago (specs below)
    Sinds a couple of days iv been getting wierd problems, System runs fine, i can do everything watch movies do work stuff. But when i start gaming it will work great for about 15-30 minutes, then i hear a click/beep thru the sound system, and a total pc freeze, screen freezes nothing works.
    So i hit the reboot, then the system decides to turn itself off and get into a reboot loop, turning on for few seconds then turning off again for a few back on for a few, etc etc.
    Only way i can get it running is pull the power, make sure the Motherboard has no charge left, then wait a bit and replug the power. Most times it will boot up fine and story starts at part 1 again.
    First off i thought it would be temperature, tho im running a almoost ull watercooled system, (Ramm + cpu + video) and i put up temp controlls on my seconds screen, and they never got above 35, on any of the components.
    Now seeing my build it is extreemley hard to quickly test a diffirent component, been running memtest with no problems, But when i do graphx/cpu stresstest/benchmark i get the same issue.
    As i stated before it has been running perfectly for few months.
    I read that PSU might be a problem, compatability wise with Haswell, tho then it wouldnt have worked for so long and just now giving these strange problems.
    What i tryéd so far:
    -Reinstall windows
    -Flash bios
    -clear bios
    -unplug as much as possible
    -diffirent ramm
    -Running with or without crossfire enabled.
    All same problems, i hope somebody has a idea without having to pull apart my custom build.

    Yep, bleeding is nice job and dooing it right on all steps is needed so yeah great, but if your CPU can handel the stress and you have tested the PSU then i cant see other way.
    Tip: take the hard loop,pipe, bridge(betwean the blocks away and add two 90angle fittings with long tobe, so you can rest each card away the pc 1 at time that way you dont need to bleed the system bitwean.
    (allso rest of the toops needs to be so long that it can be far away...)
    And yes you need reg edit your SATA drivers like xmad sayd, if you like to change IDE to RAID.

    Edit: You dont need to insert that PSU in the case, just connect wires whrere they need to be, at the momen for testing.
    Edit2: My current needs little service and update( add backplate, water change, delid cpu and moving GPU to bottom slot).
    Edit3: Wait that one 120mm low Rad keeps your sytem 32c??? Damn you have great chips, cold house or software issue. need for delid main is the heat i dont like and i have hmm 10 times that space to get heat off :D

  • P67A-G43 B3: Cannot POST--reboot loop on formerly working system--out of ideas

    So I bought a computer today off of Craigslist.  I demoed it before buying, running CPU and GPU benchmarks and playing a bit of Skyrim.  Everything looked good.  I put it in my car, drive for 10 minutes (no big bumps/turns to speak of) get it into my apartment, plug it all in and *BOOM* the computer starts for a sec and then powers down, going into a loop, doing it over and over till I hit reset.  6 hours later, I have made no progress, hoping someone here might have some suggestions.
    Specs:
    P67A-G43 B3 board
    i5 2500k CPU
    16gb GSkill DDR3 1600 Ram (2x8 gb)
    Geforce gtx 480 video
    Corsair 650W PSU
    What I've already done:
    First, I re-seated ram and video.  Same issue.
    Then, I tried re-seating the motherboard, took it out and screwed it back in (thinking something came loose and caused a short).  No dice.
    Next, I tried resetting CMOS (unplug power, hit "reset CMOS" button, took battery out for 5-10 mins, replaced).  The computer boots!  But, no video.  No harddrive access.  No nothing, other than the fans, as far as I can tell.  I restart, and it's back to square one (with the infinity reboot loop).  This behavior is repeatable, IE if I reset CMOS, it gets it out of the loop for one start, but there are no other changes.  It doesn't constantly restart, but it's not giving me anything more than that, and the restart behavior returns as soon as I power off.  In fact, if I short the Power On switch on the board to turn the power off, the system comes back on about 2 seconds later with an infinite loop.  Strange.
    Then, I took everything out of the box, re-assembled on a breadboard with bare minimum components.  With CPU and No RAM, the behavior is the same (including the reset CMOS behavior).  Ditto if I add a stick of RAM (tried it with both sticks, in a bunch of different slots, no difference) and if I add the video card in.
    Additionally, I've re-seated the CPU heatsink, no effect.  I've checked the pins on the CPU for any bent pins--I saw none, everything looked normal as far as I could tell.  On the back, all pins look good, except for two that seemed to be touching on one of the PCI slots (this PCI slot does appear slightly bent forward on the front).  I took a knife and carefully made the pins not touch, like the rest of the slots, but this seems to have had no effect.
    So, I've got what should be a pretty sweet rig sitting on a cutting board right now unable to do anything.  I consider myself reasonably technical, but I'm out of ideas.  One thought I did have was I wondered if there was any way to upgrade BIOS with the board in such a state?  Maybe by USB?  Doesn't seem like I can though.  Also, this system was working fine TODAY, and apparently had been working fine for a while, so wth, why now?  Anyway, any help would be greatly appreciated, I'm tearing my hair out.
    One additional note: the green tag on the motherboard w/ BIOS description says "E7673\IMS1A0"

    Since it was working fine before it got into the car and within 10 mins there's problems. I think it could be some of the power connections to the board or the PSU suddenly gone bonkers.
    The reason for pointing out these two hardware is due to the fact that they have not been changed out with another similar hardware for testing yet.

    Hello, I have recently purchased a P67A-GD65 from newegg along with a 2600k and G.SKILL DDR3-1600 (F3-12800CL6D-4GBXH)
    The problem I am having is that the motherboard will stay on for about 5 seconds then it will reboot, and continue to do so until I turn off the power from the PSU. It will not post so I cannot access the bios or anything.
    I have been in contact with msi tech support and they keep telling me to do what I have already done so many times.
    I already returned my board for a replacement once but the replacement had the same power cycling issues. I am thinking of buying some cheap 1333 CL9 RAM to see if I can manage to get into the UEFI and see if I can tweak something into making my RAM work
    I went on to the G.SKILL forum and found an interesting thread about RAM incompatiblities. Could this be causing the constant reboots?
    (Have cleared CMOS many times, tried different PSU, ETC)
    tl;dr
    Is my RAM causing the P67A-GD65 to continuously reboot without posting?
    Bought some Patriot 2GB 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 CL9 RAM from newegg today to see if those will work.

    In the meantime while waiting, try this. With one stick RAM in the primary blue dimm slot, if you get in to the BIOS then, set DRAM Mode to 'Link', timings to 9 9 9 24, tRFC 88, DRAM V. to 1.507 or 1.521. Looking at those timings of the G.Skills in your component list, SPD being set must be rather non standard (just a guess).  

  • MSI P67A-GD65 infinite boot/loop problem

    installed everything into my case and go to boot into the UEFI and nothing !
    i press the power switch, everything starts fine and the fans spin up and the LED's on the board are fine, waits 5 secs then it shuts itself off and tries the exact same process again. it keeps doing this until i cut the power !
    i've checked the 24pin etc, KB & mouse r fine, 2 different sets off RAM in every slot, cleared CMOS (i think).
    seems like a very common problem with this board after a bit of googling !!

    everything is confirmed working apart from the CPU & Motherboard. everything worked yesterday, but i didnt have the necessary equipment to test the motherboard or cpu before using them together (today)
