P67A-GD65 to P67A-GD65-B3 question...

Hi all...
I have a MSI P67A-GD65 board that I will be replacing with a MSI P67A-GD65-B3.  Will I have to reinstall the OS or will I just be able to do a swap, reconnect my HDDs, etc. and be off on my way?
Has anyone tried this?
Thanks for any info...

IMHO it will be fine.
PS: My P67A-GD65 get W7 system after ancient Asus P5B-Dlx. I was worried a bit but it went ok. It was necessary to install some new drivers, that's all.

  • P67A-GD53 RAID Question

    Hi All
Very quick question re RAID set-up on a P67A-GD53. Sorry if this analogy is lost on everyone, but do these boards handle arrays like, say, a Dell PERC card does? Essentially, is the array handled entirely by the hardware and transparent to any Operating System/Hypervisor that may be installed on the volumes presented to it by the controller.
I'm sure the answer, whatever it may be, is common to all MSI boards with RAID controllers and possibly to all consumer boards-I've just never had any experience of them!
    Many thanks
    Rob

Onboard RAIDs are mainly software controlled unlike hardware RAIDs by add-on cards.

  • P67-GD65 Memory Questions

    Hi,
I have a P67-GD65 motherboard/I7 2600k and Cosair XMS3 2000MHz memory modules. When I use XMP in the bios it marks the memory at 1888mhz, but when I use the OC Genie button and boot into windows 7, MSI control center reports the memory at 1066. The CPU is OC to 4.2. Do you need to adjust the memory manually or could this be a display issue in control center?
    Thanks

Your memory is an example of overclocked and overvolted 1066 chips.
See the max bandwidth in the SPD Tab. PC3-8500F (533) i.e. 1066 and that is what they defaulted to, correctly.
If you inspect the SPD tab you will see 4 JEDEC profiles the last one (XMP) being DDR3-2000 at increased timings but requiring 1,65V which is not JEDEC standard.
Based on these profiles you will have to manually set your memory in the BIOS.
Go into your BIOS and manually select a DRAM ratio that sets your memory to 1333. Set your memory timings manually to 9.9.9.26, those will be the first 4 timings in the list of manually adjustable timings.
Then test your system. If that is stable, then use the same timings but set the memory to 1600. For this test increase your DRAM voltage to approx 1,55V.
    Test and report back.
You need a 64bit OS to be able to access more than about 3GB available RAM. If you have XP 32bit, you should have bought 2 X 2GB and saved a couple of dollars. You can read this thread as well. https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=108883.0

  • P67A-C43 2 questions: Temp and LAN

After OC'ing my i5 2500k to 4.2 ghz, my bios temp reads around 66-67 degrees. However, while idle in Windows 3 different programs read closer to 42-43. In WoW with everything turned to max at 1920x1080 it sits at around 50-53. I'd assume Crysis 2 would get it up to around 60. Why is my bios temp showing so much higher?
My second question refers to the onboard LAN. I'm almost positive it's dead in the water. Windows won't show any devices in the device manager, and I've tried enabling/disabling all the related stuff in the bios. The included drivers on the CD won't even let me install the network drivers (probably because it doesn't detect the hardware). Should I just assume it's dead? It's really frustrating that it's such a small problem because I don't want to RMA it just for that when I can spend 10 bucks and get a PCI card.

Does Intel Management Engine Interface show up in Device Manager, System devices? B2 or B3 board?

  • P67 GD65 voltage question

Ok so I know there can be variations in the voltage readings between the bios and let's say a program like hardware monitor. But in my personal experience with my particular motherboard the difference seems to be a bit high. Let me explain a bit further; in the bios I set the vcore @ 1.300v, but CPU-Z and Hardware Monitor both show 1.344v and 1.34v respectively @ full load. Is this normal? It seems a bit high to me, but what do I know lol.

Nothing to really be concerned about. Well below the industry recommended maximum of 1.400v's.

  • P67A-GD65 questions

Hi, I have this motherboard and I have some questions. First off, this is my second P67A-GD65. I managed to broke both BIOS with bad flashes and left with a dead mb. Fortunately the store where I bought the mb accepted to switch mine with another repaired one even if their guarantee didn't covered it. After I received the new one, I decided to stop trying to upgrade it. But some time after that I wanted to build a RAID 0 and it was recommended to upgrade the BIOS. So I did it, the exact same procedure as the first time, just that this time it worked.
But I don't know if its me or this BIOS have bugs. I think I used a beta version (4.4B3 says control center). For example, I don't have any beep when turning on the PC. At first I thought it was my case, probably a broken speaker. But a month ago I bought a new case and I made sure to plug in the speaker. Still no beep. Its not like it mathers me, but I think this is not right. Front-panel usb can't boot USB sticks, I don't know if this is a configuration failure of this BIOS. I remember I could boot from the front USB with my old BIOS.
So here I am, again like before, I don't feel comfortable with re-flashing my bios (if thats whats failing) because I don't know why I bricked my mb the first time and I don't know why I didn't brick the new one after. I just don't understand the way to flash or something. This is not my first time flashing things but for some reason I'm struggling with this mb.

It's meant to be like that. modernb boards with current bios only beep in case of problems. Most considered the starting beep annoying and it got removed (as it is useless anyway).

If back panel booting usb works it is no config problem. Most likely an issue with the case. Try the other front panel USB headers on the board too.

4.4B3 is indeed the latest beta bios or to be correct the last bios there ever will be for that board. The last official is 4.3.
If you want to downgrade to it:
1.) >>Use the MSI HQ Forum USB flasher<<
A.) Download the attached archive and place it on your desktop. Do not decompress.
B.) Download and install the Forum flash tool.
C.) Insert your FAT32 formatted usb stick.
D.) Make sure the legacy USB is enabled.
E.) Start the forum flash tool and select option 1. Then point the tool at the compressed archive we downloaded earlier. Then to your USB Flash Drive.
F.) Boot to the USB and follow the directions. MEMTEST is included with the forum flash tool and it is recommended to run this prior to any flash.
2.) Once the flash is complete, you must download and install the latest ME drivers:

  • [MSI P67A-GD65]. Quick and dirty question: Is there a Windows 8 option?

    Hello everyone,
I have a P67A-GD65(b3), with a Sapphire R9 280x with a GOP Bios. Windows 8.1 are installed in a gpt partition, the Windows Boot Manager is booting the machine. I have the latest beta bios installed (E7681.443).
My question is: Does this bios have the Windows 8 options (like fast/secure boot etc)?
I can't seem to be able to find them anywhere.
Are these options supported with another bios?
The bios is flashed using the forum tool, and all the relevant instructions (remove power, reset etc).
    Thanks in advance.

hi hpstg, did u run good on windows 7 with latest bios for your mobo and your amd gpu ?
im having issues with my amd 7950 gpu...  with latest mobo bios beta....   i get intermitint crashes...
This has nothing to do with the OP's question.
As for his question, I do not see any win 8 features on that board. I may be wrong, but if there were, somewhere in the bios release notes you would see "Win 8 Support"

  • P67A-GD65 beep code question

    First my specs:
    P67A-GD65 (B3)
Intel i5 3.3 Mhz (Turbo Boost is OC'd to 4.2) Sandybridge
    CM Hyper 212+ Cooler
    G Skill 2X4GB 1600 Mhz DDR3
    HD4850
    Corsair CMPSU-TX750
    WD 1TB Caviar Black
Ok so I built this computer 2 days ago and it Posts perfectly fine. I have been using it for the past 2 days and have had zero BSODs so far. However there is three things I am concerned about.
    1. When I boot the computer I get 1 long beep and 3 short beeps. Now I assume this is a memory problem. Thing is CPU-Z is registering all my RAM and I ran Memtest twice (in the BIOS) and it passed both times.
    2. If I take my USB Mouse and Keyboard out and boot up, I get 1 long beep 2 short beeps. Now apparently this is a video card problem but the video works perfectly fine and I know for a fact that this is a good card. (I have been using it for almost a year)
    3. When I start the BIOS I notice it does not recognize my primary drive (it does recognize my external if plugged in) but then that screen disappears and then it boots into Windows fine and I can use the primary drive freely with no problems. I have all my SATA drives in AHCI mode and have all drivers for that mode installed. (it does not detect in IDE mode either, just FYI)
So...my question is, should I be worried about this at this point or is it a "You POST successfully so stop whining and enjoy your computer".
    Thanks!

Hi! I have the same thing with beeps. There are 1 long, 2 short, and then one short high pitch after a small delay. No USB connected at all.
The next problem is that when I hit OC Genie button on, the system even can not load bios. It is loosing power every 1-2 secs. Here is good example (not me but the same motherboard) on how it looks like
    or
Without OC Genie it boots Win7 install USB flash drive nicely.
And one of the most weird things: when I enter BIOS, it says (in top right corner) that CPU temp is 97(!!!), but it cant be so because I've just turned the power on!

  • I have a question to HU16E about OCing for P67A-GD65 board

im currently struggling with OCing on P67A-GD65 B3 board.
it seems like 2600k going to 4.4GHz with 1.3 vcore fine.
but going over is bit confusing.
i noticed HU16E has gone over 5.0~ speed. do you mind to share which settings you put in the bios?
my goal is to go about 4.8-5.0GHz.
    thanks in advance :]

whoop sorry about that. i was just in hurry to have more stress tests.
these are the components that i have
    MSI P67A-GD65 B3 Board with 1.10 BIOS
    Intel 2600k Sandy Bridge D2
    Corsair H50 Liquid CPU Cooler
    4x4GB Corsair Vengeance 1600mhz
    GeForce GTX570
i was able to OC 2600k up to 4.4GHz by just by upping the vcore to v1.300.
but i feel like going up to around 4.8 will need me to config all other voltages but i cant figure them out :S
im testing 4.5GHz with the same vcore ATM. but im sure it'll BSOD anytime soon
Imo enable int ppl set vcore to 1.4ish and go 48*100, if your lucky ull have 4800mhz stable, i use these settings didnt really change anything els and im getting 50*100, works perfectly.

BIOS update could depend on exactly which CPU is selected, but for most, the BIOS of 1.4 seems to be the current release version. It supports the majority of CPU's to date. If not planning on OC'ing, or any glitches encountered of compatibility issues, no need to update BIOS. Your 8800gts should run great.

  • P67A GD65 B2 vs B3 question

    Hi,
I couldn't find much more information about the B3 stepping release that only the SATA problem is fixed but I have 2 identical setups with both a P67A GD65 and 2600K, same bios versions and settings. One is a B2 and the other a B3. I've all energy settings enabled and I noticed that the B2 drops Vcore to 0.904V while the B3 drops it to 0.800V when Idle. When under load, both overclocked to 4.6 with auto Vcore, the B2 will reach 1.432V and the B3 only 1.368V. Does anyone know if this is because of the new mainboard revision or can it be CPU related (maybe new batch of CPU's)? The B3 setup is a couple of weeks old and the B2 from the beginning of the year. It can't be bios related I think since I've tried a couple versions now(I'm currently on 1C0 on both boards). I don't care much about the idle state but under load it differs a lot in power consumption and heat.

Two different processor exemplars can definately exhibit different voltage characteristics.  If you can, switch the processors between the two boards and see what happens.

  • Serious gaming Question about MSI P67A-GD65

I really need to know for a fact, I mean really need to know.   I play on getting 2 6990's and put them in CrossfireX.  The thing is I see this board is 2 PCI E 16x but I see PCI E (16x, 8x).  Does that mean the 2nd PCI E slot is running only at 8x?  The sole purpose of having 2 6990s is to max out performance for the whole year.  I see the 5970x2 lasted a whole year and is still faster than the 580GTX.  I want to have 2 6990s to have superior FPS status for the whole year of 2011.  Now if it's only 16x lanes for the top slot but 8x lanes for the last slot then will I see a performance loss of potential than if it was 16x on the bottom too?
MSI P67A-GD65 for 2 ATI 6990's in CrossfireX
If it's only 8x on the bottom then I cannot upgrade to a 2nd card.  I see bench performance differences of 8x vs 16x with the latest cards of the day were massive.  I can see how the cards of today would be even more massive.

Quote from: bobkn on 25-January-11, 11:04:00
The Maximus IV includes an nVidia NF200 PCI-E controller. Regular P67 boards only have 16 total lanes for graphics.
One thing I'm not clear on: the data rate with PCI-E on the P67 is supposed to be double that of the older chipsets. Naively, the data rate on a P67's X8 graphics bus ought to be the same as for one of the older X16s.
A pair of 6990s? Maybe you should have waited for Socket 2011. 40 PCI-E lanes, quad channel memory, 8 core CPUs, etc.
Perhaps the reason why they only have dual 8x and triple 8x not dual 16x or triple 16x.  I think the NF200 chip is just a to make it look more expensive.
The last post in this forum the guy says it decreases performance.
    http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=237334
It adds more latency.  I had an EVGA Killer Xeno Pro which is a hardware NIC for the PC.  When I do head to head headshots on my screen in TF2 against another sniper it shows fire on my barrel but no kill or damage on the shooter after I die.  Even with a ping of 20ms and the other guy had like equal or more.  When I removed and sold it, everytime I see a flash on my screen and I'm lined up properly for the headshot with someone with equal or a bit more ping than me I always get the kill or at least damage before I die.  I honestly thing adding more things was like the P4 architecture having long pipelines.  The longer it takes data to travel the slower it will be and could be significant in performance loss.  I'm going to have 2 ATI 6990's on my MSI board and see what will happen.

  • P67A-GD65 questions about RAID, Overclocking, Sleep, etc

Just got this motherboard a couple of months ago.  Running Windows 7 64-bit Ultimate.  BIOS 1.G0 and yes I am aware that there is a newer version.  It's my first MSI board and I have a few questions.
    1) I am interested in setting up RAID 0.  I have 2x brand new Western Digital 7200 RPM drives that I would like to put into RAID 0 for my OS (and backup to another drive of course).  Which ports should I use?  The integrated Intel RAID controller or the third party (JMicron or Marvell?), which I have currently disabled in the BIOS to increase boot time.  The drives are SATA 3.0 if that matters, not 6.0.
    2) I have a Core i7 2600 non-K installed.  Would I still be able to use the included MSI tools to overclock, even if the multiplier is fixed?  Should I use OC Genie or Afterburner?
    3) What are the BIOS settings that I need to tweak to be able to come out of sleep by moving the mouse or pressing a key on the keyboard?  I tried enabling the "Resume by USB/PCI/e" options but it always makes it so that the computer comes back out of sleep immediately after Windows starts the go-to-sleep process.
    4) I am using this is a server.  Is there any BIOS/hardware level power management that I could implement since it's a machine that will likely be powered on 24/7 except for when I decide to put it to sleep?
Edit: and before anyone decides to post some link about the difference between hardware and software raid, I ALREADY KNOW.  I am just wondering based on which controller I'll get better performance out of, Intel ICH10R vs Marcel SE9128.  All of the forum posts I've seen online are only with regards to SSD drives and not mechanical, which will yield different benchmarks.

    1) RAID preference is individual. Since you disabled 3rd party for loading time, will you want to sacrifice loading time now? Do you need to connect more drives to the system as a standalone data drive or just those needed for RAID?
    2) Overclocking Q&A, please refer to Overclockers section.
3 & 4) I would use S1 and tweak settings in OS Power Management for hibernation settings. Since it is a server on 24/7, usually, just the monitor will be off and screensaver on. The rest are not needed to be powered off or put to energy saving.

  • P67A-GD65 B3 - probably a dumb question, but....

i cannot see the headers for the front panel switches.  the manual says JMPT4 but there are no headers there for them.  in my box are the little header things but i can't see where to put them.  i don;t want to keep powering up the mobo by the power button.  it doesn't work on my ivy cpu so i have borrowed a sandy to update the bios.
but where is the header for the front buttons????

thanks, i'll look again.  i couldn't pull but didn't look hard enough obviously
