P6N Diamond, CPU Multipliers, 6x is sproradic?

Hello,
Have a strange situation with my E6750.  I understand that only the Extreme CPUs have unlocked multipliers, but how about the run of the mill CPUs?   I have had my 6750 running at 6x450, 2700mhz, and I have a CPU-z shot to prove it. Weird thing is, during boot and in system information..it shows 8x450. 3616mhz..??  Stranger still..if I reset Cmos, I cant regularly boot at the 6x multiplier, sometimes it does, most of the time it doesnt.  Is this just a fluky bios thing..or just flukey to get it to run 6x?  If anyone knows how to definitely enable the 6x multiplier, let me know the correct procedure.  (I'm thinking about mounting a Cmos reset button on the desktop to speed things up:))
Thanks in advance..
Oh yes..speedstep is disabled in CPU settings.
Paul

I say this to everyone who uses MSI's utilities.
Dual CoreCenter is junk! Don't use it.
Download CoreTemp from here.

3.  I disabled the on-board XFi because none of the x64 or x32 bit software would work with it.  Tried updating the software on Creative's site and each setup program said "no compatiable hardware detected."  I did have sound though and it *seemed* OK but I was a bit freaked out by none of the software working.
Use drivers from MSI CD, then update to the ones from the site here.

5.  If I unlink the settings in the Cell BIOS menu and set the memory speed to 1067 Mhz (which the memory is rated to) and leave all other settings along I get Video adapter problems ("GPU recovered from a fault") and occasionally RAID failures.  Updated to Microsoft's latest RAID driver from Windows Update and that seems to have stopped but still get weird GPU failures with memory running at rated speed.
Did you set timings and voltage to what Corsair specs state? Should be a sticker on DIMM to tell you all that.

  • P6N Diamond: CPU power connector(s)

My PSU is a PC Power & Cooling Silencer 750W.  It has what appears to be both an 8-pin and a 4-pin CPU connector.  The motherboard manual shows an 8-slot connector, but it came with a plastic tab on it which blocked 4 of the 8 slots.  Neither manual (MB or PSU - the latter simply a fold-out piece of paper...) says anything about the apparent discrepancy.  The tab on the MB is easily removed, which I did and connected the 8-pin PSU connector.  I'll be running a E6850 CPU and two BFG 8800 GTS video cards.  Can anyone shed some light on why there was this plastic tab over four of the slots?  Should I be using the 8-pin connector, or the 4-pin.  In all my previous builds, I've never had a choice.  I'd rather not power up only to find I've made a mistake and fried everything.

Modular PSUs may look nice and "improve" cable management, but they also introduce more points of resistance.
There also known to be unstable on the power rails, And can cause premature failures in system components due to it...
Dont bother, a zip tie is way better in the end!

  • P6N Diamond CPU voltage fluctuations

Lately my CPU voltage has been acting up overclocked or not, sometimes voltage has been ok by restarting system but now will not and system crashes running smp program.
CMOS has been reset multiple times and voltages are fine from power supply.
The thing i am not sure of and maybe someone has some input here, Im still running the first shipped bios 1.0 and my processor is a GO Q6600 and im not sure if that series processor is supported though i know the older series Q6600 is supported and am wondering if that could be causing the problem though sometimes in the past everything has been ok but i have never flashed a bios before because it has not been needed.
Any input would be helpfull so i can get the smp running again.
Hope the board is not going out anyways, im not sure if it is still in the warranty period or not.

I'm sure you've allready looked but by the CPU support list you should have 1.2 BIOS for the G0. B3 shows 1.1. You've had off & on problems with folding all along on that rig haven't you? Perhaps you should flash 1.2.
The list has been updated and no longer shows version 1.0 at all.
    No problem just started recently.

Try setting 1.36250V or higher.  I think you should try another PSU too.
I wouldn't recommend a BIOS flash in an unstable state.
Power supply voltages are rock stable but i may give it a shot i have an old 375 watt unit i can plug into the board to test and keep the Silverstone running all other stuff.
Processor has run stable @ 1.28 volts before problems started but i will raise voltage more just to see what happens.

  • P6N Diamond New Problem: Second HDD Randomly Starts/Stops Since recent Update

    Howdy All,
Continuing problems with the P5N Diamond.
    This one's new.
Previously I had the same problem as many others with the cold boot issue. Somehow, someway, it just stopped: cold boot or not, one day it just started booting fine....go figure.
However, I recently (about 3 weeks ago) did the MSI live update that included something or other pertaining to the E-SATA....support for it or something to that end. Although I don't use the E-SATA, I installed it thinking I might at some point and since installing it, I have discovered a new problem: my second drives (in RAID 0) just opens/closes randomly. It seems to mostly occur when operating demanding programs: gaming, watching a video, that sort of thing.
Everytime it does this, it takes me to desktop and asks me what program I want to use to open the program......which when I do, is nothing more than my second (D drive) HDDs in RAID 0. I then get the yellow pop up message in the bottom toolbar from Windows saying it's experienced a write failure problem. It hasn't done any damage that I can tell and I've lost nothing, but being taken to desktop perpetually is a major issue. This problem is driving me absolutely up the wall. No sooner than I start to do something and wham.....I'm at desktop being asked what program I want to use to open up the second HDDs. I've also tried just leaving it open but to no avail: it just randomly continues to open and close.
I have my O/S on the C drive and 2 more HDDs in RAID O for back up on ports 6 & 7. Since doing the MSI update that included the E-SATA whatever, this new problem almost prevents the computer from being usable: certainly nothing in gaming is possible along with anything that requires uninterruption.
    Here's my system:
    M/B: P6N Diamond
    CPU: E6850
    RAM: Corsair XMS PC-8500, 2 x 1 gig
    HDD: 1- WD 150 Raptor
    HDD: 2- WD 5000AAKS in Raid 0
    Vid Card: EVGA 8800GTX
PSU: PC Power & Cooling 750 Silencer
    ODD: Sony DRU 830A
    FDD: Sony Floppy
    Misc: Scythe fans x 5
    O/S: XP Pro w/ SP2
    Running BIOS 1.2
So, being fairly certain the MSI update created the problem, my question is, how do I undo the MSI's most recent update to remove it? When I go into Add/Remove Programs, nothing is listed there. I'm not sure this is the source of the problem but I do know I didn't have it beforehand.
I'd greatly appreciate any help with this....even any ideas. While I have some computer knowledge, I'm not as tech savvy as most here, but this problem is, apart from driving me up a wall, making the computer almost unusable. FYI, I haven't done a System Restore because I've installed several things since and don't want to lose them if I can isolate the problem, but I will if that's what you all recommend.
Again, sorry for what may be a noobish question, but I'm not sure where else to go. After dealing with MSI's tech support, I'd rather talk to a wall.
    Thanks greatly.
    Pepper1

    Mark,
Forgive me for asking, but I am a bit confused. Is your "cold boot issue" now solved? If so, do you think that the new drives are the key?

    Sorry for late post.
After setting up the HW RAID (2500YS) for booting the system still cold boots.  strangely this time the reset (Ctrl+Alt+Del) doesn't seem to work.  I must of did it two dozen times and it would never clear.  I then just powered off after the other 2 drives on the nvidia SATA cleared and seen the HD LED light up and stay on for a few seconds(seems stuck on the 4723 checks of the drive) and then powered down and powered right back up with no cold boot issue.  It has worked this way every time for the last week or so and I tested it like 20 or so times(3-4 times a day).  These drives are listed as being compatible after the firmware update (and I did that already) so I guess it is either the MB BIOS needs updating or it's the way the nvidia chipset runs this setup is wacky.  This is assuming the 4723 HD compatibility list is correct.
here's a summary of the drives so far.
36GB Raptors (old revision) - can take forever to boot properly and corrupted my disk in 3 days of testing (scrambled my directory structure)
105GB Raptors - Just reset(Ctrl+Alt+Del) 1-4 times after the HD LED goes solid for a few seconds.  worked for two months no errors.
250GB Caviar RE(2500YS) - have to power off (power button) when HD LED goes solid.  so far no problems for a week.
80 GB SATA II Hitachi Deskstar (HDS728080PLA380 - May 2005) - same as 150 GB Raptors, just a reset or four, only did a days worth of testing with no errors.
well, I was hoping for those 2500YS to work properly.  Now it makes it really hard to track the problems with so many different errors and 3 different places it can go wrong 4723/nvidia/msi/HD Manufacturer.  wait, that's 4.  Oh boy!
Hopefully this gets resolved soon.  I've already had to move this MB to my secondary system, and for other reasons than this.  I didn't mind hitting the reset button to get this to run.  I get the feeling that MSI has abandoned this board on us.  with the new P7N being released it will be even harder to get anyone to mess with this thing.

  • Deciding on a new CPU for P6N Diamond

    Hi all,
I'm looking at upgrading my cpu before moving to vista.  I'd like to get a nice extreme edition since this is my dream pc.  I'm pretty sure the QX6850 will work with it, but has anyone tried the QX9650?  I saw some of the other Yorkfield processors are under testing and will most likely work with the latest bios, except the QX9650.  I'd be will to buy the processor and wait for the next bios update, but I'm not sure if the next bios update will add support for that processor.
    Thanks

Sorry for the bad news, but the P6N Diamond will NOT support any Yorkfield processors in the future.  Future bios updates will only support Wolfdale processors...not the new quad core series..:(  If you want to run a 45nm CPU, you will need to stick with a dual core or update to the 780i or 750i board.  Bummer.

  • Aftermarket CPU cooler to fit P6N Diamond and my new build

Hi, after my motherboard finally quit a couple weeks ago, I am starting to build my new system.  I just purchased a P6N Diamond motherboard and I'll be picking up an E6700 Core 2 Duo and I already know that I am going to overclock slightly.
With the heat pipes this board has, I'm wondering if and if so, what aftermarket CPU cooler will fit on this board.  I'm not going for a major overclock, but I would like to see 3GHz per core or slightly higher.
Also, Does anyone know what speed of RAM I should get to bump this processor up to 3GHz?  On my last setup, I used DDR 434 and ran it at speed to get the processor up from 3.0C to 3.24GHz and 3.4E to 3.67GHz (upgraded at one point).  I am still not sure on what RAM I should use yet for compatibility issues, but I guess I need to figure out the speed first.
I also just ordered my video card today as well.  I went with a EVGA eGeforce 8800GTX Superclocked card.  Later on down the road when the price comes down, I'll pick up another to run SLI.  From what I read on MSI's website, SLI (with the P6N Plat) doesn't support SLI in Vista... Is this true with the board, or will it be a driver/BIOS issue that can be fixed later?
The computer this is replacing is my HTPC.  I used and will again use this thing for just about everything.  I regularly watch movies, record/watch TV, listen to music, play games, etc.  I have it hooked up to a 40" flat panel LCD HDTV and have loved running and HTPC since I bought the TV in December.  Hopefully this next system lives up to what I'm hoping it will be.

The GeminII cooler may not fit. But the Tuniq is also too heavy IMO.
I would pick this; it has good clearance and is one of the best coolers on the market. Except for this obviously.
But it's all down to personal preference.
I really like the Thermalright SI-128 SE that you recommended.  My last Thermalright was able to cool my 3.4E @ 3.7GHz processor down when my old Zalman could not.  Do you know if this will fit?  I'm not sure the larger Thermalright will fit in my case...

  • P6N Diamond reboots with E6850 CPU (Kernel-Power)

I hope I give enough information to possibly help with my issue. I recently changed my CPU from a Pentium D 3.4GH to the Core™2 Duo CPU E6850 Conroe 3.00GHz. I can't run for more than two hours before I get a sudden reboot. I checked the event viewer and there is a critical event: Kernel-Power. I'm not trying to overclock (although I'd love to learn how too). I've listed my specs below and thought I'd mention that I don't have a heatsink and fan on the CPU. I'm using the Corsair liquid cooler. I have fans blowing on the heatsinks to keep the heatpipe cool. Checking it with a Fluke IR Thermometer I get 45c on the 680i heatsink and 50c on the 590i heatsink. This temp is comparable to when I had the Intel heatsink and fan on the cpu. I use the Cooler master CM Sniper for my case and there seems to be adequate air flow. I just did a reinstall (cleaned the hard drive) using the Pentium D and have been adding and updating one driver at a time to see when the problem would start. As soon as I added the E6850 CPU the reboots started. I changed back and the reboots stopped. The Any help and/or ideas would be appreciated.

    Hello and welcome,
    What bios do you have?
If its 1.0 its possibly not fully supporting your cpu and you probably need to flash your bios.
If you need to flash, read here on how to safely:
    https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=113295.0
    And go here for biosfiles:

                                             Hyper 530w psu
System runs fine and is faultless.
My problem seems to be getting the cpu to run at the speed I set it at. Even with "speedstep" manually disabled it lowers the multiplier under normal use and only speeds up when under load. Have  an E4300, E4400 and a lovely E2160 which all have the same results.
Also.....Every time I set the BOOT order so that my HD is first and the rest disabled, upon re-entry to bios, boot order reverts back to having all boot devices in list.
Incidently I have run all 3 cpu's and run the usual benchmarks once a sweetspot is found.
Results conclude....E4400 MO stepping is crap compared to the baby E2160 which is only a couple of points short of my best result with the E4300 [3.4] on standard cooler.
All 3 cpu's stay set at their maximum on my sons Gigabyte GA-G31MX-S2 which is a lowly board in comparison.
Anyone any tips before I decide to buy another motherboard to try maybe the XFX MB-N650-IUL9 NF650i Ultra cos I dont need SLi

Isn't that a good thing? Are you experiencing any performance problems or lags?
The feature that is responsible for this behaviour is called C1E [Enhanced Halt State].  There is a hidden BIOS Option somewhere named "C1E-Support".  Press F4 while you are in BIOS to make it visible.  The default setting is AUTO or Enabled.
I am running a slightly overclocked system with C1E-Support enabled.  In the last 12 month I have experienced no perfomance problems or lags.  I kind of like the idea that the CPU is running at full speed only when it needs to.  Also note, that the CPU multiplier is not the only thing that is automatically adjusted.  VCore is decreased as well when system is IDLE.  The helps to lower power consumption and keeps temperatures down a bit as well.

  • How do I monitor my northbridge temps? - P6N Diamond

That stupid little northbridge fan is stupidly loud so I'm playing with taking the fan out. How can I monitor my northbridge temps? Both my nvidia controls and speedfan give me environment and cpu and gpu, but none give me northbridge temps. Can any tell me how to monitor my northbridge temps?

You will need a thermal sensing device to determine the temperature properly but the P6N Diamond does not run really hot anyways.

  • P6N Diamond BIOS Failure

      Hello,
I just recently tried to update the BIOS on my P6N Diamond (MS-7320, PCB 1.0) from version 1.0 to 1.3.  I used the AMI flash utility in widows 7 (32 bit).  It completed with no issues and then did a restart. Upon restart it begun POST, but then hung up showing the p6n diamond logo.  After 10 minutes I started a cold boot and the wonderful black screen of death appeared.  My mobo will not POST.  There were no beeps upon powering on - CPU fan ran - all video cards ran and the PSU was running.  I started with basic trouble shooting.  I tested the monitor on another PC and it worked.  I removed both 8800GT video cards and installed in another PC - They worked.  I then removed the dimms  ddr2 800 and switched them to another PC and those worked.  I then removed the e6400 cpu and tested it in another PC and it worked.  I reinstalled the cpu - 1 dimm in slot 1 - 1 8800GT - and removed all power and cables to the SATA drives.  I then hit the CMOS clear button - plugged in the PS and then booted.  Still no POST.  Unplugged the power and I looked for the JBAT1 Jumper on the mobo.  I found it but no jumpers so then I removed the CMOS battery and walked away for about 30 mins.  I then re-inserted the CMOS battery - pluged in the PS and tried to boot again only to get the same black screen.  The only thing 2 things I believe I can try is to switch the dimm from slot 1 to slot 4 and try again - if that fails I will download AMI Bios ver 1.0 to a floppy a disk rename it to AMIBIOS.ROM insert it into the drive and hold CTRL HOME to force the read of Drive A.
I did install the USB 2 PCI adaptor with the code lights.  The lights showed 1 red 2 green & 3 & 4 red which showed an error with RAM.
    Questions:
Does anyone know of anything I may have missed?
If I previously had the BIOS set up to skip drive A - will the CTRL HOME keys still work?
Where do I purchase a BIOS chip for this mobo - Is it possible I could install myself?
I think the manufacture warranty is still good for parts only.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

You should not have updated the BIOS from within Windows.

If the BIOS Boot Block is not corrupted, yes.  The Recovery Routine has nothing to do with any BIOS Settings regarding the system's boot order.

Only if you have sufficiant soldering skills (you need to solder out the old chip and then solder the new one back in without damaging the chip and/or the mainboard).

  • MSI P6N Diamond Driver Probl

I recently was one of the brave few to order a MSI P6N Diamond motherboard. This board is only few months old if that, and of course all the drivers and bios for this board are buggy. One thing I should note about this board is if you disable the IDE controller, your cpu voltage will shoot up to .7 volts( stock is .3) and if your lucky , fry your brand new E6600 chip. (NOT COOL)?Besides that fun I will get to the point. I could of cared less about the onboard X-FI , but with PCI slots going by by and no one is making any PCIexpress sound cards (that I am aware of). I sorta figured well shoot, now I am stuck with this sound card.
At first, I was , wait its a creative labs sound blaster X-FI, those are those new ones that seem really cool (NOT). I wont lie, in games it sounds million times better then my old Audigy did, no more pops or cracks (5 year old card) the EAX effects sound more life like, 5. channels works cleaner. I was like "way-a-go creative!"? Then the problems started.
I loaded up my favorite program Fruityloo
    ps.
After looking over the sound properties , I notice there was no ASIO cards to be found? Hmm.... Could? naa, no ASIO on a creative labs sound card? At first I thought I must of time warp back to the Li've! days, shoot at least I could use KX drivers make that baby work great!? This time I was left in the dark ?No problem, I will just goto creative.com and download the new drivers, forget those MSI drivers came with the board, I would rather use the manufactures drivers instead anyhow (creative). WRONG!! "setup could not find any supported devices in your system"?... Figures ?So i tryed to boot leg the drivers and force them to work , naa that wont work. So I am guessing Creative WILL NOT support this sound card because they didnt install it on to the motherboard, MSI did, they are the ones who do the driver support, go bug them! (as i would figure). MSI says "well we use there drivers off there site and make them work with our boards, they are up-to-date!" I dont know , this sucks, is there a way i can rip off the X-fi chip on my motherboard and get a refund, heck shoot me over a audigy 2 at least those work 'ok'....
?Besides that ASIO problem, I notice FEAR Combat will BSOD and sometimes say a file called "t3filt.sys" was involved, funny that file comes up as a "Sensaura" file? I have no clue what thats all about, I know this if I disable the onboard sound card from the BIOS, the system runs 00% stable, I enable it, game will randomly crash....
I do know what a computer is and how to get drivers working, but I would almost bet my problem is the driver, and not the hardware (I hope). Sean-

so how bad is it's does this mean iam SOL or what, i just got done reading one of those other threads on here about the X-FI extreme audio scam, I guess iam right up in there with the rest guys. I cant jerry rig the drivers at all, is there any third party drivers that will work? What can one do?If it comes down to it I will litterly desolider the x-fi chip off the board, no sence in having it on there if iam not going to use it?Probley snap it in half when iam done and mail it back to creative. • P6n diamond - error beeps and freezing

Ok so I have had the MSI p6n diamond since july. Since the beginning I couldn't buff the Anti Aliasing to more than 4x or else my game would (whole pc) freeze up with the sound also freezing. So I just didn't buff it. Recently I started getting problems. No matter what I am doing, my PC freezes up. If it is in a game the sound gets freeze choppy, you know what I mean, no matter at what settings I play it. Then the whole PC started freezing up like this. It is working, but not doing anything, just being on. And the image on the monitor is frozen. Is it possible to be the mouse, because I sometimes have to change the usb slot of the mouse when it goes to sleep? So the only way to use the PC after a freeze, is to restart via the button on the case. But then sometimes, an odd thing happens. I get this 5-10 second continuous beep from the start which then has a 1 second pause and again the long beep. I tried searching in the manual and on the intranetz, but all the info was different and the only error thing connected in the manual was the LED codes. And when the beep is on, the led codes are nothing out of the ordinary. Basically it wont go through the intitial beep when the pc is turned on. So i restart it a few times, just getting the beep, or getting a blank screen and nothing happening. Then the same stuff happens, if I go into bios, it will sometimes freeze there, so that leads me to think that It is not the Windows, which i installed over 3 times (fresh installs). I defragmented the hard drive a few times using O&O defrag. Basically I am out of options. Help would be appreciated a lot.

PS Maybe it is a voltage issue? It is at auto voltage, but maybe I should change it? Everything is at auto voltage btw. What should the voltages be?
Basically what error beeps mean would be the greatest help you could give me. But only for this mobo specifically. I want to know in which part of my pc the problem is.

"Then the same stuff happens, if I go into bios, it will sometimes freeze there"
It looks like PSU fault..Try with better PSU.. Good suggestions can be found here: https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=112039.msg836246#msg836246
Also check CPU cooling system, re-seat CPU and apply new thermal paste(but not too much)
