I did, i put SLI Switch Card : SLI MODE, 8x + 8x
I can see two video cards, (each video cards have 8x)
So when i want enable SLI MODE, and apply, suddenly SHUT DOWN MY COMPUTER..
Make sure power cables are connected to the each one.(if they have).

Evga Geforce 8600GT (normal) Core 540/1400"
If no change try with 2x matched VGAs...

[Athlon64] Msi K8N Neo2 Platinum problems with Patriot Ram

    First post, whoo hooo
So what version of BIOS are u running?  I recently installed the two newest versions 2.0 and 2.1, and they both give me problems.  With the latest (2.1) I'm getting the same error as you.  Returning back to previous BIOS fixed my problems.  Oh yeah, my RAM is Kingston Hyper-X, so i don't think thats your problem.
Let me know if you fix it, thats why im here, .

  • X38 Platinum: Problem with CPU detection

    Hi everybody,
I've got a little problem with my newly acquired x38/platinum...
I'm currently assembling a new PC on my own... So far all the component have been plugged-in EXCEPT the memory modules (I haven't purchased them yet).
Despite this complete lack of memory, I try to test the correct boot-up of the system.
And then the following problem occurs: the "lcd post" display hang on "CPU" (before rebooting indefinitely)... Not "DRAM" as expected...
The CPU is a Core 2 Quad, and is correctly powered with a 8-pin/12v connector. The CPU-Fan is powered from the correct on-board pins (cpufan). The speakers are plugged, but no specific "beep" are emitted.
One possible mistake I've made: the CPU-Fan is not fully plugged with the 4 "screws": i only (and hardly) manage to clip 2 of them, I'm afraid of breaking the board if y try too hard with the two others.
Could this problem be caused by the absence of DRAM? Or more likely by the the fact that the Fan is not fully clipped? By the way, is that normal that the CPU Fan is so Hard to plug correctly?
Any comments or idea would be greatly appreciated
Thanks (and sorry for the approximate english)
    MH.

mhz42, please provide full system specs.  Otherwise it is very hard to help you with your problem.  What brand and type of memory are you using?  What other components are part of your system configuration?
The mb is a x38 platinum 1333. The proc is a quad core qx8650, 1333fsb. The hd (western digital caviar) and optical drive (lg h66n) are both on sata and plugged. The memory used is 2go Kingston ddr3 1375mhz... (plugged in DIMM 1/2).
Anyway, I frankly doubt that the problem could come from anywhere else than the cpu (considering the post message)...

    What PSU are you using?

Did you properly plug in ALL power connectors?
The powering should be ok... (the MB, the proc, the cpufan and the graphic card are plugged) The processor seems to be correctly powered, if it was not the case, the post process wouldn't even start (tested)...

You could just buy a cheap Pentium 4 and flash it with that.
That's an idea. Or i could directly ship the mb back to msi and thell them to do it themself... After all the spec says cleary "quad core compatible"...
    So?
Just to be sure: the "since 1.1" from the compatibility table from MSI, refeers to the bios version right? Not a sort of MB revision or something?

  • MSI NEO2 Platinum, problem with mouse Genius PS2 optical

    Hello,
I have a MSI NEO2 Platinum motherboard with a mouse Genius optical PS2. When the S.O. init the mouse is not detected, I unplug and plug again the PS2 port and the mouse work perfectly ! ... The mouse is working perfectly, I test it in another PC, the problem is the motherboard !
The same situation is on Windows XP Professional and Linux Ubuntu 5.10.
Please help me, thanks for your attention !
    Raúl.

    Raúl,
The PS2 slot is NOT a hot plug! If you remove and reinstall it while there is power to the mobo you stand a very good chance of destroying the PS2 Slot.
    Take Care,
    Richard

  • RESOLVED - K8N Neo2 Platinum problem with large Seagate disk

    Hi All,
I've been running this system for 4 years and I'm very happy with it. But I've run into a problem:
I'm trying to exchange my 120 GB Seagate Barracuda systemdisk with a 500 GB Barracuda and I can't install XP with SP2.
First I tried to clone the old HD with Norton Ghost and Acronis True Image. The cloning looked fine but after taking the old HD out and moving the new one to P-ATA 1 as Primary Master I get an "error - no operating system found". I also tried a fresh install from CD. After the CD reboots the system I get the same error.
The HD is present in BIOS with the right parameters and all is looking well - but still no go.
I've fiddled around in BIOS (vers. 1.3) with the different settings (LBA, Large, Auto, Csh.) The last 2 options gives the "no operating system" error and the first 2 gives a "disk error" although Seagate says that I should change settings to "LBA".
I only have the new HD in the machine. I also tried fixboot and fixmbr. I can see all the installed files when I put it in as a slave.
    So my question is:
Does the K8N Neo2 Platinum have a problem with large hd's as system disk?
Or is this a Seagate or Windows problem ?
    Any help is much appreciated!
    Mads

Actually that was the first thing I did just to see if the drive worked :-) - except that I had it as master on the second ide cable. It formats like it should and all partitions report "healthy". The only difference is that the new drives c-partition is set as active (can't find a way to change it back)  - while the old one is set as system. Could this make a difference ?
Since neither cloning nor a fresh install works I think the problem is something else. Maybe I should try Seatools and see if that makes any difference.
Thank's all for help so far! - Other suggestions ?

Hello.I got the board for a year now and lately im facing problems with the hdd`s.I have 3 new discs installed on but quite often they disappear completely causing windows(vista 64)to freeze.I asume that the sata controller is faulty. The problem seems to get fixed whenever i change the positions of the sata cables but after a while comes back.Does anyone else facing a similar problem?I ll install the latest bios version to see if things gets better.

    did you solve this problem?
Im really sorry for making over a year to answer :bonk:but the problem is still there.I have now two hdds(the third one is not functioning with the other two ones on:worship:.I have checked my hdds one hunded times without finding a single error.I changed the PSU with a 750watt corsair but still no light .Ive learn to live with it.Whenever my pc refuses to boot(the bios  doesnt recognize the discs)i open the case and disconnect the  hd im using for storage, boot into windows, shut down the pc,reconnect the other one, boot again and voila!!!! Everything works fine for 3 to 5 days in a row until the nightmare returns.I sent the board back to the store for rma but they didnt find anythin wrong.
The only possitive is that i havent had any  "freezing" experience inside the windows for  a long time now.My pc works flawlessly with one hd so im willing to keep it till summer.

    Question:
The first time you took the board in did they replace it on the spot or did you have to wait for a few days?
If I may ask where did you purchase the board?
they tested it, bought it online so it took some days for the package to go and return. They also tested the board.

    Hello, collegues,
I just installed new Audigy 2 ZS PL, and found that not working:
. DVD-audio player in "Mediasource Player" - as if I am trying to start the DVD-audio playing concerning Creative instructions ("insert disc and enjoy..."), both across icon

The using DVD-audio disc is original, from the Creative Audigy 2 ZS box(with audio samples), OS Win XP with SP &2, all previous audio hardware was deleted before 2 ZS installation, speakers Inspire T7700. Each time after attempt to load DVD-player I'm forcing to reload PC. Same time, DVD-movies was playing normally (with "Intervideo DVD Platinum" software), but after third attempt to load Creative "DVD-audio player" I had as result the crash of normal DVD-moving playing (only front and central speakers was working), and it repaired only after full deleting audio from system and repeatedly fullfilled Audigy installation). Can somebody explain, what is this - Creative software lags or PC hadware conflict ?

    VIDEO: Nvidia 6600GT
Ok heres my problem, My second video card on PCI express stopped working after storage of the computer. I switched the two video cards, they both work. I reset my bios, no luck. Enabled SLI broadcast arpeture, nope. The damn SLI switch card lost the flimsy plastic piece holding it in, tried taping it in, tryed reversing it to non-SLI, tried removing it. No go on the second video card. It worked perfectly before I took out the second card for a while. Tryed reinstalling drivers. Tried everything but removing the motherboard and reinstalling it..
Windows just wont reconigze the damn card. Both cards are firmly seated.
I'm about to take a hammer to the piece of *$##
    Any ideas?

Problem fixed. Had to cram the sli selector card into the socket, and then secure it into place with 3 pennys (more of a cost than the cheap plastic piece MSi supplied ).

  • PREY - Sound Problem Solved - SLI related, not SB related -

    Hi Folks,
I have posted this in a few places on the web to help out people with PREY now that it has hit the shelves so they don't have the same issues I did. My story:
I just spent $ 75 bucks I didn't need to. I have a MSI K8N Diamond Plus running a AMD 4800+ Dual Core, with 2 gigs of RAM in dual channel, and two EVGA E-Geforce 7900 GTX 52MB running SLI. The mobo comes stock with onboard sound, which is a Audigy SE w/ EAX-HD. Turns out the sound is based on a Li've 24-bit chip soldered onto the main board. It is a 6 bit card, meeting the minium requirements on the box.Bought Prey, loaded it, and the game looked perfect but vocals were totally distorted and there was horrible static. I did everything, tried reloading vid drivers, sound drivers, nforce drivers, the game three times and still no joy. I came on this site and played with the hardware acceleration etc etc etc that I have read so often in many posts. No joy.So my buddy convinced me I needed a Creative X-FI card. So I went out and bought a X-FI Extreme Music. I went into the CMOS and disabled onboard sound, uninstalled the old Creative drivers, even uninstalled my nforce and vid drivers. Put in the new card, rebooted, installed newest nforce 6.86, rebooted, installed newest vid card drivers, rebooted, installed newest drivers for X-FI with the Fatality OpenAL support, rebooted. Defragged. Re-installed the game. Went to play it expecting to reap the beautiful sound goodness I worked for, and the same frickin problem. All that work, new card, same vocal distortion and static. At this point I started looking over my shoulder expecting to see my wife standing there with her arms crossed giving me the hairy eyeball with one eyebrow up and tapping her foot. You know how that is....So I went online, scoured 6 dozen mainstream and obscure sites all the way to Russia and found ONE site where one guy on the 0th page on the 5th post on it was talking about the DEMO he tried of PREY and he mentioned in passing that he disabled SLI and ran the game in single card mode because SLI interfered somehow with the sound. So I thought to myself, no way. I right clicked my desktop, went to Settings, Advanced, clicked on Nvidia, went to the SLI tab and cleared the box for "Enable SLI".Rebooted. Game runs perfect. Now I gotta explain to my wife why I spent $ 75 bucks on a sound card I didn't really need. But all that doesn't matter now, cuz I spent 5 hours on it last night. Words cannot describe this game. I've played them all - and I just have to say I want to meet the designers and shake their hands. This is the most beautiful, imaginati've, NON-repetiti've, refreshing, eye-candy drop dead georgous FPS I ever saw. The musical score is genius. The imagination that went into the storyline, and artwork is astounding. Most importantly, the gameplay is none other than spectacular.Enjoy it fellow SLI'ers. I hope this post helps you.Grog

You're late to the party. I am currently running almost the exact same setup as you with the exception of my 7900GTXs in SLI being from XFX, but that part obviously doesn't matter and the sound board being an X-FI Elite Pro.
Anyway, the onboard Audigy SE works great in everything with SLI enabled, but I obviously want to use the X-FI and that's where I run into the problems with SLI enabled. However, SLI isn't the problem given how it works for many other sounds boards and on top of that, the SLI architecture was around before the X-FI, so Creative needed to test against this more stringently.
Regardless, it's been known for a while about disabling SLI, it's just not a good answer. Thanks for the input though.
I agree about Prey, very entertaining!Message Edited by zcaa0g on 07-8-2006 2:23 PM

  • P6N SLI Platinum mobo with hard drive/sata crashes

i've experienced a (now recurring) problem with my hardware over the past several months. i've come home from work twice now, once about 2 months ago, the other just today to find my computer stuck at the windows xp loading screen. if i tried to reboot the system, it would hang at that point, until i disconnected the offending drive/sata channel (i had 3 hard drives in my system, 1 150gb drive with operating system, ect, and 2 500gb drives for storage (mp3s, video, ect). i've narrowed the problem down to either the motherboard or the sata cables (i don't have spare cables to test with), as the hard drives work perfectly in an external usb enclosure. any ideas of what could be wrong?
    basic system stats:
    msi P6N SLI platinum motherboard
    intel core 2 duo E6600 2.4ghz processor
    crucial ballistix DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) 2 gb SDRAM
EVGA GeForce 8800 GTS video card
western digital raptor 150gb 10k rpm SATA hard drive
western digital caviar 500gb 7200 rpm SATA hard drive
PC Power and Cooling Silencer 750w power supply

    in brief,
1- if you have one memory it should be in slot 1, closest to cpu, if two X 1Gb then they should be in one and three.
2- do you know what is virtual memory if so have you made adjustment or not.
3- you have freeze due to wrong bios setting till we get a good picture of your bios difficult to pin point the mistake, so use either a digi cam or web cam and take shoots of your bios then we can pin point the mistakes

  • Problem with MSI X58 Platinum SLI - IOH temperature !

    Hi guys.
    I have this PC configuration:
    - MSI X58 Platinum SLI ( Bios Version 3.8 - http://img822.imageshack.us/img822/6707/161020101249.jpg )
    - Intel Core i7 930 2.80 GHz box ( with Intel Turbo Boost running sometimes at 3.06 Ghz )
    - MSI GeForce GT240 1GB DDR5 128-bit HDMI
    - Corsair 6GB DDR3 1333MHz CL9 XMS3 Triple Channel Kit ( sets to AUTO and running at 1066 Mhz )
    - Corsair CMPSU-750TXEU
    - Ordinary case ( http://img828.imageshack.us/img828/4200/161020101246.jpg & http://img29.imageshack.us/img29/8480/161020101247.jpg ).
    - Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit.
I bought my PC components 2 months ago, so they are new.
    Now, guys I think that is a problem with my motherboard. When I turn on the computer in Bios I have this temps: CPU – 30 C (86 F); IOH – 71 C (159 F); System 30 C (86 F) - http://img687.imageshack.us/img687/394/161020101242.jpg. After 2 minutes the temperatures are: CPU – 34 C (93 F); IOH – 82 C (179 F); System 41 C (105 F) and 2 more minutes later the temperatures are: CPU – 34 C (93 F); IOH – 84 C (183 F); System 43 C (109 F). After 30 minutes of doing nothing I have this temps: CPU – 35 C (95 F); IOH – 85 C (185 F); System 42 C (107 F) -
Guys it is normal with IOH temperature ? I am a little worried about it ( to be honest I am more than “a little” … I am worried a lot ).
Ok, I know I don’t have a good case but in 3 weeks I should receive this Thermaltake Spedo Advance Case (http://www.thermaltakeusa.com/Product.aspx?C=1121&ID=1829) and I will buy a new CPU cooler ( I don’t know yet wich one – maybe Corsair CWCH70 or Noctua NH-D14 but I have to see the case first … to be sure there is a plenty of space for those coolers ).
Pls help me with that IOH temperature. It is normal ? What if I intend to make a little OC ( lets say CPU to 3652 Mhz and RAM to 1333 Mhz … but also I will ask for your support ! ) my motherboard will burn ?
If it is necessary I will contact my retailer and send him back the motherboard but … I like MSI a lot.
Thx guys for your support !

    Hey guys,
Here is a nice cheap alternative.
Here is my story about the same issue.  I found it after looking at why my computer freezes sometimes. Not very often but enough for me to do some investigation.   I noticed my IOH temp was a whopping 117 degrees Celsius. lol.  Surprised my mobo didn't burn out by now.  I wanted to evaluate the situation with the heat sink and decided to take it off.  After taking it off I found extremely crusty purple compound on board the chipset and the heatsink.  I took me FOREVER to scrape it off. it was almost like a cement which I found odd.  After scraping and cleaning the surfaces with alcohol, I placed some silver compound on and proceeded to put it back on.
Well, upon hooking everything back up I was still at 95 to 103 degs.   Now I started to really look at the options to replace this.  I had SLI config which means I had to do something clever with the southbridge as well.  A nice thermaltake chipset solution w/fan and a low profile copper southbridge with shipping was about 45 bucks.  Hmm ... This is a sure fix from the threads I have read and its really kid of expensive to fix a simple defect. the problem is not necessarily with the heatsink not being sufficient.  Its the combo of the compound used vs the amount of pressure applied between the heatsink and chipset.  It was completely unacceptable.  I knew this right away when I was watching the temp and then I would press on the top of the IOH heatsink and I would watch it drop another 15 degrees in less then 10 seconds. The springs are extremely weak and not effective at all in transferring the heat from the NB.
Here if my fix.  Cost me less than a dollar at the hardware store and it works ideal thus far.  Do this at your own risk.  Doing this will probably void any warranty too.   All my problems are solved and I am running at 57 degrees, YES, 57 degrees with the stock heatsink and no additional cooling.
For one scrape all that old crap off like I did. Apply your new compound. But when you go to replace your heatsink, use the following method.  The trick is to use metal screws with a mobo washer, original springs from the plastic studs and a nylon locknut.  Use screws that are the same diameter and length (maybe a tad bit longer) as the plastic retainer studs.  Also grab a few of those red nylon mobo washers too, were gonna need them as well.
After scraping and applying compound, reassemble as follows.  Screw with washer inserted into the back of the mobo so the threads are out front.  The plastic/nylon washer is betweeen the screwhead and the back of the mobo as a insulator. Put the heatsink on. With the threads thru the heatsink already, put the springs on and start spinning on the locknut.  I torqued the nut down on the spring until the spring almost became fully compressed.  The purpose of the spring here is really to prevent you breaking something and at the same time using the max force of the spring since it weak to begin with. Thats why we need to compress it down pretty much all the way. There will be little to no room in the spring at this point.  The heatsink at this point should be pretty solid to the board as well.  I noticed with the plastic studs before the heatsink would wobble if you gave it a little rocking back and forth before.  Not this time. Shouldn't move much if at all.  Remember not to torque down too much. You don't want to go beyond the springs compression. Even if you did by accident, its better then not using a spring at all. If you feel that it starts to feel tight when torquing, you torqued too far. Stop an backup a 1/4 turn or so.  It is also very important to make sure both torques are equal on both sides as well. Alternate sides when torquing down.  I could tell by how much thread I had left on both sides and by looking for any uneven sides.
To summarize, the compound is a problem no doubt.  After you resolve the compound issue, its all about the adequate pressure between the heatsink and the IOH.  Much like the amount of pressure needed between your CPU and your heatsink give or take. And the pressure that would be as an aftermarket solution like the thermaltake chipset cooler. You dont see cheesy springs on that.  Wake up MSI. Simpy using a more effective spring could save MSI some cash in the long run. I envision a leafsprin design like the thermaltake chipset one.  The heatsink design could be better, sure, but the design itself is not the problem. Replace the heatsinks if you would like to, if your overclocking and stuff.  Funny, this board I have is a refurb too and only had it for a few weeks. Figured they would have done something about it.
Sorry the pics are not the best. Here is about as close as I could get to the finished product
