P6N SLI CPU voltage options

hi all
I have checked the other P6N SLI posts for this but i was unable to find it. no doubt someone will point me to one but i will ask anyway.
In the cell menu the option for voltage for the CPU is a little confusing to me. My previous asus motherboard had simple voltage settings going up in 0.250v sections, like
1.250v
1.275v
1.300v
they were alot more accurate and smaller but i hope you get my idea.
In my P6N SLI menu, it only gives options like 0.125v and upwards to around 0.300v
I do not get what voltage is what for my CPU. As my CPU is a E6550 its highest voltage is 1.5, how can i know what to select if i were to overclock the thing?
thanks for anyone who understands.
Dan

oh right, so how do i find what my default VID voltage of my CPU is ?
Intel lists it as
VID Voltage Range: 0.85V – 1.5V
You can get the VID by downloading and running Core-Temp.  You can leave the CPU voltage at "auto" and the MB will adjust for the correct CPU voltage..you can see approx CPU voltage in bios, under Hardware  Monitoring.

  • MSI P6N SLI Platinum Voltage regulator cooler size question

I have a question about MSI P6N SLI Platinum's Voltage regulator cooler. Is it the same size of K9N SLI Platinum? The reason I ask is I plan to use water cooling on it. But the only regulator  waterblock I can find is desgined for K9N SLI Platinum from aqua computer http://www.aqua-pcs.co.uk/index.asp?function=DISPLAYPRODUCT&productid=218. So can I use this one on P6N SLI?

I guess not... P6N is much thinner, if your K9N VR cooler is as thin, then it can fit in. But I guess not.

  • P6N Diamond CPU voltage fluctuations

Lately my CPU voltage has been acting up overclocked or not, sometimes voltage has been ok by restarting system but now will not and system crashes running smp program.
CMOS has been reset multiple times and voltages are fine from power supply.
The thing i am not sure of and maybe someone has some input here, Im still running the first shipped bios 1.0 and my processor is a GO Q6600 and im not sure if that series processor is supported though i know the older series Q6600 is supported and am wondering if that could be causing the problem though sometimes in the past everything has been ok but i have never flashed a bios before because it has not been needed.
Any input would be helpfull so i can get the smp running again.
Hope the board is not going out anyways, im not sure if it is still in the warranty period or not.

I'm sure you've allready looked but by the CPU support list you should have 1.2 BIOS for the G0. B3 shows 1.1. You've had off & on problems with folding all along on that rig haven't you? Perhaps you should flash 1.2.
The list has been updated and no longer shows version 1.0 at all.
    No problem just started recently.

Try setting 1.36250V or higher.  I think you should try another PSU too.
I wouldn't recommend a BIOS flash in an unstable state.
Power supply voltages are rock stable but i may give it a shot i have an old 375 watt unit i can plug into the board to test and keep the Silverstone running all other stuff.
Processor has run stable @ 1.28 volts before problems started but i will raise voltage more just to see what happens.

  • Qusstion about the P6N SLI 2 ( Voltage)

i see the Voltage in the bios not really clear the VTT Volt seein in frosent by hope 2-4-6-8-10-12
and the CPU voltage is start 0.000
what is the mean this VTT and CPU volt ??
i mean i no what its mean but i cant understand how match to UP them ..
in the CPU-Z i see it on 1.37 and in bios its 0.375 so i think the mean 0 is = 1 no ?
In the Platinum Combo P35 i see the volt and the cpu defult is 1.000 so i dont have this prblam ther..

    MighT,
The default/auto CPU VCore is taken from the CPU, it is unique to every CPU. Whatever value you set in the BIOS will add onto the VCore VID.
    E.g
CPU has a VID of 1.325v. You set 0.025v in the BIOS.
    1.325 + 0.025 =  1.350v

  • What P6N Sli-Fi voltages are safe?

I've got a C2D 6420 (2.13 GHz stock) that I'm overclocking to 3.0 GHz and here are the voltages I've set in BIOS (v. 2.6):
    CPU voltage = 0.000V
    Memory voltage = 1.80 V
    NB = 1.3 V
    SB = 1.65 V
    FSB VTT = 16%
I'm happy with my CPU and memory voltages based on the manufacturer recommendations, but can someone tell me what NB, SB, and FSB VTT voltages are considered safe on this board?  I'm especially concerned about the FSB VTT--I'd read somewhere that a high VTT can destroy the board.  But is 16% too high?  To be honest, I don't even know what 16% means--does it mean 16% over the stock VTT voltage and, if so, what is the stock voltage anyway?
    Thanks.

Hi, although I rather dislike the tool I am going to recommend now, I would suggest to try MSI Dual Core Center:
Thanks for the reply, maybe I'll try the Dual Core Center--but looking at the image, I don't see FSB VTT, NB, or SB voltages listed?  I'm kind of a newbie at overclocking, but what does the 3.3v, 5v, and 12v voltages mean?

  • P6N SLi platinum, Voltage questions for oc to 3Ghz

    Hello dear forumusers,
I have recently overclocked my cpu by a little (2.76 ghz instead of 2.67Ghz) however, my memory is a little bit slower because its voltage is on auto and I cannot get it on manual .
I can set the timings and speed ( 667Mhz) but it runs on 638Mhz, so I need to adjust the voltage but as said I cannot change it
Is this resolvable by updating to another bios or is it just impossible?
    Bios is v1.0
Edit, found already, page up page down does the trick

I've been experimenting a bit and now reached 2.98 Ghz with stock cooler, idle @ 25C, loaded @ 55C
The fsb:dram is 9:8 and mem is now running at 662Mhz, was 638 Mhz????
I cannot set the divider myself unfortunately, or me don't now how to (see specs for info)
One more question( you can put this post in the overclock forum if you like) I want to reach 3Ghz as a max, but as soon as I set fsb on 1500(now 1490) it will boot but within 10 to 30 min orthos will stop.
What do I have to do to get it stable, my mem is running on 1.85V as described by kingston and I raised the NB by .025V, now 1.275V and on 2980Mhz it's rocksolid, no errrors after 5 hours of orthos.
Do i have to raise the Vcore or something else, any comment is welkom
    Thanks in advance

when i start my computer i get that at begin
a 267 MHz processor is installed , this processor is not support on this system board and will run at reduced processor clock speed , system performance will be impact .
euh what is that . i still getting that .. i updated bios still  do that same msg all the time  so my processor   say  2.13 under windows but if i do a cpuz  that say 1600 .  and sometime i saw 2.13 for like   1 sec and go to 1600 again .. can someone help me ..
    MB = P6n Sli
    CPU = E6420

    Hello welcome to the forum,
It's just a warning, totally ignore it.
Your CPU changing speeds is a result of Intel EIST, or Speedstep it's more commonly known as. It default multiplier and drops voltage when CPU is idle.
Get ORTHOS from here, does speed go back to 2.13GHz?

  • P6N SLi OC issue.

    Hello,
First off let me start off by saying hello and greetings to all. Now let me get to the issue that plagues me. I recently built my computer back in Apr 07. Here is what I am staring at.
    Mobo: MSi P6N SLi
    CPU:   E6300 C2D @ 2.8ghz
    Mem:  2g(2x1g) Kingston Hyper X
    Vid:    Nvidia 7950GT 512mb
    PSU:   Thermaltake Toughpower 700w
    CD/DVD drive
    HDD:   Internal 160g WD
Icy Dock 2x 320g WD HDD
I have been searching and reading and pretty much printing out all the information on overclocking my CPU. I recently got it to run stable at 2.8ghz at stock voltage on Orthos for 3 hours. I had backed down my ram to run at 667 at 5-5-5-15 2T and set the bios to linked.
Everything works fine well almost everything but I will get to that in a second. I can surf the web, watch videos, listen to music, and download stuff with no issues. However when I log onto a game such as GW or WoW, I can play for about 15 minutes and then the computer would reboot.
I had an error before that stated something about settings not being supported on my OC. I have searched here and about a dozen other forums and printed out everything I could and read how everyone was able to OC this thing. A ton of people it seems have gotten past the 3ghz barrier with no issues but I cannot even push it without receiving an error or the computer failing to boot all together. I have even found plenty of post with people running almost an identical set up as my own. I want to push the 3g barrier but I cannot even play a single game without the computer going down at 2.8.
Has anyone else ran into this problem any suggestions would be greatly appreciated? I have read alot here but nothing seems to address this issue. I do have the most recent bios, I am running XP Home, I am just at a loss right now.

Well it's the keyboard controller so you could have a dead mainboard.
But it's only booting on a cold boot, so a PSU issue is a bit of a definete.
Do you have a different mainboard you can try? Or a less taxing VGA?
    Quite welcome.
Picked up a 750W ThermalTake PSU this evening, will swap PSUs in the morning
Keeping fingers crossed that it is the PSU and not the MB as that will push back the build even farther.
Incidentally, I pulled the CPU out and put it in the Shuttle works like a champ so that rules out CPU too.
Looks like it is down to MB or PSU and the answer should be known tomorrow.
Thanks for bearing with me thru this, as this is my first build with an MSI MB. Have done  a couple hundred of builds with Shuttles and ASUS boards, and am hoping it is either a bad "new" PSU or karma knocked me in the arse with a lemon MB.
Have read some really great things about there boards, and know several people who have used them with great reviews.
    Once again thanks

  • MSI A88X-G41 PC Mate - no CPU voltage settings

I see no CPU voltage settings in the BIOS.
The manual states a "Digit All Power" section with 6 voltage regulator settings(CPU & NB) ,item that is not present/visible in the BIOS page.
    Is it hidden ?!
Is there a key combination for this to be revealed ,like other manufacturers have or MSI had in the past ,for this item to show up ?!
The only voltage setting visible is the DRAM one.3 BIOS-es tested and all are the same.

  • P6N Sli Platinum front audio panel and CPU temp voltage issues

    Hi All,
I got my P6N Sli Platinum yesterday, build up my computer without any major issues. However I have noticed that my audio front panel does not work. It could not detect my microphone when i plug it into front auido panel, it works fine for the rear auido panel though.
Another issues is I highly doubt the accuracy of CPU temp sensor. Msi 's software monitor reports my CPU temp is around 19-20 degree, I know that's too good to be true even I am using a water cooling system. Btw my cpu is E6600. Anyone else has the similar issues?
The third, I notice my CPU voltage is bouncing between 1.1 to 1.24 in CPU-z. And the multiplier is changing from 6 to 9, frequency is changing from 1.6g to 2.4g. I only see this in CPU-z.  Msi 's own software reports CPU running at 2.4g though. Is this cpuz issue or something else?
Finally, any tips to max the overclock potential of this board? I have overclocked to 3.1g but there are some crashes. Going higher the board just won't boot up. I read a review on anandtech.com says 1.22 bios is good for oc. Where can i download that? I only found 1.1 bios on official site.
    Any reply will be appreciated.
    Cheers

C2D-CPUs have a digital internal sensor to monitor CPU Core temperatures.  Have a look at those with Core Temp ( http://www.thecoolest.zerobrains.com/CoreTemp/ ).  This Tool reads the temperature data directly from the register of your CPU. There is nothing wrong with the sensor.  It is rather the MSI tool that does not read the data it provides correctly.

There is no issue.  What CPU-Z allows you to see there is the C1E-feature of your CPU at work.  When there is nothing to do your processor will automatically reduce Core Voltages and frequency to save power and keep temperatures down.  As soon as the work load increases the multiplier is set back to x9 and core voltages increase dynamically.  It is meant to be a good thing.
I have overclocked my system a little and I like that the C1E feature is still working at this speed setting CPU frequency to 2GHz and core voltage to 1.144v when my system is idle.
If you have problems with this feature you can turn it off in BIOS. The option is labeled as "C1E Support" and might be hidden somewhere.  You may be able to hit "F4" to unhide it.
The MSI utilities are not the best tools to monitor your system.  CPU-Z, Core Temp, Everest, Speedfan, Memset, Rightmark Memory Analyzer for example do a far better job.

  • MSI P6N SLI-FI cannot adjust cpu voltage

Ok ive tried two different bioses (2.0 and 2.12) and in both I cannot adjust the cpu voltage. It reads 0.00000V and I cannot adjust it please help.

Personally, I think people are jumping to conclusions about OCZ memory .  My (MSI SLI Platinum board) system runs perfectly stable with OCZ memory.  Saying that OCZ is a problem is too broad a statement - hell, OCZ sells 11 different models of DDR2-800.
The memory in question in this case happens to be the Platinum version (actually, in this thread, the memory doesn't even seem to be the issue), which must have it's voltage oc'd to 2.1v when running at the stated 4-5-4-15 DDR2-800 speed.
Anyway, cell_491, make sure that you've disabled:
C1E (might be hidden on Advanced settings -> CPU Features page... use F4 to show it)
    D.O.T
    EIST
    ALL spread-spectrum settings
...note that these boards will reset to some defaults if you fail to POST a few times, so make sure the above are still disabled.  Also, keep in mind that while the memory 'settings' are or can be 'unlinked' from the FSB, it's still using a divider internally, so you might want to clock the memory down to 667 when you're trying to determine the FSB top-end.
I've been running my E6400 at FSB 1333 (333 x 8 = 2.664 GHz) with my OCZ DDR2-667 ram oc'd to DDR2-800 4-5-5-12-24-2T 1.9v (unlinked 400mhz ram freq) perfectly stable for the past few weeks.  Last night I played around with oc'ing the CPU some more and managed to get up to around FSB 1480 (370 x 8 = 2.96 GHz) running stable by adding some voltage, but I'm still running the stock Intel heat-sink and the E6400 starts getting pretty hot at that speed, so I backed it back down to 1333 (2.6GHz) which I'm now running in linked mode with my memory at 4-4-4-12-20-1T at 1.9v (I haven't started tuning the timings yet).
I need this board to make my living, so it has to be stable and I can't afford to fry anything, so until I upgrade the cooling, I don't plan to try for something over 3GHz, but if you've got good cooling, then this might help.  It's for the 680i chips so the BIOS options will be different, but the 650i uses the same NB as the 680i, so there's a lot of info that should be usefull (including some max recommended safe voltages).

  • P6N Sli-Fi cannot up RAM voltage?

    Hi All.
I've read through my motherboard manual and unless I'm missing something simple the BIOS will not allow me to change the memory voltage to anything above 1.8v. It stays set to AUTO. I can change the CPU voltage, but not RAM voltage. Is this because the Kingston Ram stick I have in it will not allow higher then 1.8v, or am I doing something wrong? I hit enter to select, nothing happens, I use the + and - simples and cannot adjust.
Basically I have some G.Skill ram that won't post and I just wanted to try to up the voltage to 1.9v and see if I could use my 2-1gb G.skill sticks before I RMA them for some Ram listed in the supported section. Figured it might be worth a shot to attempt to get this ram to work.

    Hey there Spafra,
You probablyalready got your problem solved, but just in case...
g.Skill rates your DIMMs at 1.8 - 2.0v, so you are safe to up the voltage within that range(to include 2.0v). If they still fail to boot at he higher voltages, you can still RMA them through g.Skill. That is, if the mobo boots with the Kingston or other 1.8v DIMM.
I have different RAM, though they are rated 1.8-2.1v, the mobo booted them fine with the 'DRAM Voltage' set at 'auto' (actually, with no voltage specified in the field).
Boot to BIOS Setup with the Kingston ram, if necessary, set your voltage to whatever you decide on, make any other changes you like, then press <F10><ENTER> and when the screen goes black turn OFF the computer AT THE PSU. Unplug the power cord from the computer, as well as the 24pin ATX and 4/8 pin CPU Power connectors (per  the manual), Change your RAM out for the g.skill, reconnect, and hit the 'START' button.
    Hopefully it'll boot ok.
If not, you may have to disable 'Execute Bit Disable' in the >>Advanced settings >CPU feature > Execute Bit Disable   [DISABLE] menu until you have a successful boot.

  • P6N SLi F1.....inability to lock cpu multiplier

    Hello
    I have a system based on the P6N Sli-F1 Bios ver 2.3
                                             2Gb Ocz Platinum pc6400
                                             xfx 7600GT Fatal1ty
                                             Hyper 530w psu
System runs fine and is faultless.
My problem seems to be getting the cpu to run at the speed I set it at. Even with "speedstep" manually disabled it lowers the multiplier under normal use and only speeds up when under load. Have  an E4300, E4400 and a lovely E2160 which all have the same results.
Also.....Every time I set the BOOT order so that my HD is first and the rest disabled, upon re-entry to bios, boot order reverts back to having all boot devices in list.
Incidently I have run all 3 cpu's and run the usual benchmarks once a sweetspot is found.
Results conclude....E4400 MO stepping is crap compared to the baby E2160 which is only a couple of points short of my best result with the E4300 [3.4] on standard cooler.
All 3 cpu's stay set at their maximum on my sons Gigabyte GA-G31MX-S2 which is a lowly board in comparison.
Anyone any tips before I decide to buy another motherboard to try maybe the XFX MB-N650-IUL9 NF650i Ultra cos I dont need SLi

Hello and Welcome to the Forum!

Isn't that a good thing? Are you experiencing any performance problems or lags?
The feature that is responsible for this behaviour is called C1E [Enhanced Halt State].  There is a hidden BIOS Option somewhere named "C1E-Support".  Press F4 while you are in BIOS to make it visible.  The default setting is AUTO or Enabled.
I am running a slightly overclocked system with C1E-Support enabled.  In the last 12 month I have experienced no perfomance problems or lags.  I kind of like the idea that the CPU is running at full speed only when it needs to.  Also note, that the CPU multiplier is not the only thing that is automatically adjusted.  VCore is decreased as well when system is IDLE.  The helps to lower power consumption and keeps temperatures down a bit as well.

  • P6N SLI Platinum not booting after CPU change

I just upgraded the CPU in my machine with a P6N SLI Platinum motherboard from a E6700 to an E8500.  I first upgraded the BIOS to 1.7 as the MSI page seemed to indicate that was a pre-req for this CPU.  The machine was working fine for a day with the new CPU.
I changed the CPU in the machine and when I tried to boot, the lights on the motherboard came on as well as the fan, but no video or sound.  In addition none of the diagnostic LEDs on the D Bracket light up.  They had been previously working.  Neither do the lights on my memory sticks light up.
I tried clearing the CMOS by hitting the switch but nothing.  I am now going to try switching back CPUs but I don't have much hope that that is the problem given the diagnostic LEDs don't light.  Does anyone have any suggestions as to a fix or is this motherboard fried?
P.S.  Do you hit hte CMOS clear switch when the computer is off but the motherboard is charged? Or do you unplug the computer and wait for the internal orange light to go out as well too?

What is the QC number (by the cpu socket) is 01, 02, or 03?
     See this thread for more:

Ah. Given I bought my P6N SLI Platinum 3.5 years ago when they first came out I imagine mine is one of the older versions that doesn't support 45nm CPUs by default.  Is there a photo somewhere showing where the QC number is located exactly on this MB?  It's probably located under my huge CPU heatsink and I'm not going to remove that for a third time just to check.
I really wish the MSI CPU compatibility page mentioned that. It would save me a lot of time.  It's not worth my time and effort to dismantle my PC, send them the MB and wait for them to send me back a compatible one.
I verified the BIOS upgrade by looking at the version number at startup and using CPUZ.
