P6N Sli Plat. and Wolfdale

Hi...does anyone know for sure if the P6N Sli Plat. can use the E8400 or E8500?  According to the compatibility list, either "stepping" version of either cpu is compatible if your board has Bios ver. 1.7.  But still I am cautious about buying one of those cpu's since I can't seem to find on forums where somebody has done this successfully (with 1 exception where they played with voltages and all that).  In fact even since bios 1.7 I still only read about people trying it without success.
Thanks

Going sli with those gts will help when the going gets tough and deliver more frames per second for a smoother gaming expierence. Those new nvidia drivers havent made any difference as far as i can tell. I see youre using klipsch speakers good choice there is no better option in my mind for i own a set of chorus 2s for my stereo and a huge klipsch fan, nothing makes the neighbors hate you more than rattling knick knacks off thier shelves in the houses around me.

  • P6N SLI Plat and floppy drive not working

System says the floppy drive works fine, but I put in a disc and it doesn't recognize it.  All I get is, "Please insert disc".
Windows says that drivers are up to date.
I really need to get it working so I can do a fresh OS install with raid drivers on the floppy.
I think im just retarded, or both my floppy drives are dead... or both my floppy discs are dead.
    Any ideas?

From what I'm reading it sounds like you are able to boot to Windows at the moment right?
If so, why not skip using a floppy disk to load driver, and just slipstream your RAID drivers into a Windows install CD?
There are tutorials all over the web to do this, here's a good one:
    http://www.maximumpc.com/article/How-To--Slipstream-your-XP-installation
Regarding your floppy issue, it's very possible for your floppies to be dead. Almost all of mine that I have around are toast by the time I get around to using them.
If you're dead set on using a floppy to load your RAID drivers, go buy a couple new floppies and see if you still have the same problem. If so, then you're a new $14 floppy drive away from solving your problem...

  • P6N SLI Plat and g92 sli question

Do any of you guys with this mb run it in sli with the new g92 nvidia cards and if so what kind of results did you get?  I'm very tempted to get another evga gts 512 and run it in sli however I'm concerned about the scaling in vista 64 and I'd like to hear from others who might have already done this.  I really haven't seen any benchmarks using this mb so I'm looking for some personal experiences to use as a guide.  I considered swapping mb's however if this one will yield good results I might try it first before spending more money.  Thanks.
Edit:  I looked at the sale ad one minute too long and have already ordered it with overnight shipping.  I should get it tomorrow and once installed I'll let you guys know how it goes.  I'm sure that it won't be long before a new sli mb finds its way into my pc.

  • P6N SLI Plat and realtek onboard sound in vista ?

Ok for everybody who's running the onboard sound in vista I have a question for you.  In your realtek settings do you have a multiband eq to adjust settings or is everything just a preset to choose from?  I dl'd the latest realtek drivers 1.67 and no multiband eq, only thing is presets that you must pick from to shape sound.  I'm looking for a multiband eq so I can adjust each frequency myself.  Thanks.

Everything is just a preset to choose from. I could not find an EQ anywhere. I was actually able to get some nice sound out of the onboard chip. First of all I put a check in "speaker fill". This alone will get sound in all speakers on a surround sound system. Second, I went into "sound effects" and "Room", and then selected "live". Again, this alone will give you sound in all speakers. And third, I set up "room correction" according to my speaker layout. All these combined have produced beautiful sound through my Z680 sound system. Is it true surround sound? I have no idea, but I like it.

  • P6N SLI Platinum and E8400 Wolfdale

I see on the site that this combination is still "Under Testing", but is anyone here running this combo successfully with the 1.5 Bios?  Also, does anyone know if it will even boot on the 1.4 Bios?  I want to purchase this combo but am worried that if I get a board with 1.4 I won't be able to boot it and I don't have a spare processor to be able to boot and then flash to 1.5 (assuming this will work with 1.5).

To be honest I haven't seen that many doa p6n plat's.
Sure there were some troubles, but mostly they can be fixed, especially with latest bios, everything is fine and dandy with my mobo.
Dont worry and just wait most of the owners are very happy with the p6n sli plat.
If you dont know how to flash read here:

  • Dual Core Center- MSI P6N SLI Platinum and MSI 8800 GTS 640

I have both the MSI 650i MOBO and the MSI 8800 GTS vidcard. When using an Asus P5B Dlx MOBO and this vidcard, Dual Core Center was installed and displayed the information for the videocard and allowed a mild OC. Now with both MSI products in the case, Dual Core Center only displays the information on the MOBO-- no 8800 GTS information. The tab at the top for the VGA does not bring up anything.  ??? I have tried installing the version on each one of the disks that came with each piece of equipment again and it doesn't seem to make a difference, it doesn't work. I downloaded the most recent version of the utility from the MSI site and still get only the MOBO information. How do I get the display for the video card.
Or since the MSI utilities typically are listed on the forums as not being the greatest, what else can I/should I be using instead?
    {I'll put this in the graphics forum too as it hits both areas...}

Running a P6N SLI Platinum and a MSI 7900GTO with Dualcorecenter 2004 and everything is ok.
Never installed any driver from the MSI CD which comes with the board or graphics card. All drivers are downloaded
    from Nvidia.
Maybe the 8800 series is not supported yet.

  • P6N SLI V2 and E8500 = no post / boot, just black screen.

    Hi,
I have had my P6N SLI V2 for quite some time and never had any problems with it with my old E4600 processor.
Yesterday i decided to upgrade to E8500 (needed more kick from the cpu with my "new" GTX260).
The computer wont boot up at all when the E8500 is installed, fans spin normally etc. but no picture at all, just the "black screen"
I also noticed that my GTX260 cooler fan wont start, tought i broke the somehow at first but then i put my old radeon xsomething in, the fan starts spinning but still same, no picture.
When i put the old E4600 back in, everything works fine.
After this i have tried pretty much everything i can think of, first flashed latest bios i could find (1.4, with the E4600 installed), then cleared cmos, tried failsafe defaults, just one memory module, 2 differend graphics cards, removing extra peripherals,  but now i am pretty much out of ideas. Has anyone actually managed to get E8400 or E8500 processor to work with P6N SLI V2 ? Those cpus are in the supported list but still i have read people complaining about the same problem and found no solution to it from anywhere.
    If so, how?
    -Core 2 Duo E8500, Wolfdale, SLB9K
    -P6N SLI V2 (Bios: 1.4)
    -2 x 2gb mushkin 800mhz (5-5-5-18)
    -corsair 750w, 80+ single 12v raild PSU
    -EVGA GTX260

Thats just... brilliant. (mine is 02)
Spending 160 euros on a CPU (store won`t refund it since there is nothing wrong with it) not to mention roughly 20 hours trying to figure out what is wrong with it just because the supported CPUs list does not have this "little" information... well it sucks, big time.
Then again, i am probably not the first person to say so.
10+ points to Svet for the quick anwer though, just hope i would have found out about this a bit earlier..
never the less, i feel like i have been cheated in some way..
I actually also contacted MSI trough the online customer support form, they said that the E8500 should work, pointed me to the supported CPUs list again and advice me to clear cmos once again so i quess that who ever answered, did not have this information at hand at the time. Well it is an old MB so no big surprises there.
Do you have information on how to proceed with this "adding something to the motherboard" thing, can it be done within Europe, preferably in Finland? Or should i contact the person who answered my question with the online support form by replying to it for this?

    Hi guys,
Ive just bought an additional sata2 drive for my pc. I already have a raid - 0 setup.

it doesnt appear in the My computer window?? this is really beginning to bug me, the only advice online has been to format the drive which ive already done twice!!
I am no expert, so iam out of ideas. Any help appreciated.

  • Integrated SB Live 24 bit on K8N Neo4 SLI Plat and custom EAX

I want to be able to create some custom EAX settings but I can't seem to find any way to do that on the SB Live 24 bit that's integrated on the K8N Neo4 SLI Plat board.  Is anyone able to do this or is it a limitation of the integrated SB Live 24 bit?  I hope it's not the latter...  Thanks.

Hello, uninstall your sound drivers and go to creative site and get the lastest drivers with creative sound console, install both this sould work..  also clean out all the old sound drivers after uninstalling with driver cleaner. I think thats how i did it.    good luck henry9

  • K9N2 SLI Plat and 630 Propus

My wife just bought the 630 for me (early Christmas) and I was wondering if anyone has tried it in the K9N2 SLI Plat.  I see the 600e and the 605e, but not the 620 or 630.  Do I now need to get another mobo?  Any thoughts?  Thanks for the help.

Re seat the CPU and make sure its properly installed, also remove power cord from the PSU and do >>Clear CMOS Guide<< then retry

  • E6600 stock sink, P6N SLI Plat.

ok so I built my system last week and its been up and running pretty well for 2 weeks.  But I worry about dumb crap often and I noticed when I installed the heatsink, to get the 4 corner fasteners to fasten the board did bend a little bit pushing the socket portion of the board down.  Just wondering if this is normal, if theres going to be a failure down the road, just dunno.   My AMD 939s never did this.

I'm no expert, but I can say those things are way more flexible than i'd have thought... Had a problem with my P6N SLI-FI, had a sauder ball on one of the holes for my 775 socket.. Before I noticed it I managed to injure my thumb pressing down on the clamp, and the board took the abuse.. I wouldn't recommend but if it works don't mess with it?

  • Video messed up with P6N SLI Platinum and ASUS EAX1950PRO

    Specs:
    CPU Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 2.4G
    4 GB Patriot Ram
    P6N SLI Platinum
    ASUS EAX1950PRO
    RocketFish 700w psu
Problem:  I don't get the grpahics card post screen just the MOBO's and the video is all messed up.  There are multicolored vertical blinking lines running up and down the screen.  I can see through the clutter that it is posting fine (it looks for a boot device) but I figure I need to fix the graphics issue before going any further.
I am working on a new system, so at this point everything is unplugged except the RAM CPU and video card.  I have tested it out switching the ram sticks out so unless they are both bad it is not the ram.  What is my problem?  ANy help would be rad.
    Thanks

Test your video card in a different system or try a different video card in the P6N SLI Platinum.

  • MSI P6N SLI Platinum and SLI!

    Hello!
This motherboard comes with that SLI switch Card (required to be inserted before SLI function works)
Also how can I remove that card from its place?
And in what manner do I have to insert that card to make SLI function work?
    Helpful replies will be appreciated...

Pull the 2 metal levers at the sides sideways and the card will flip out - Turn it around (Theres 2 arrows saying "non sli mode" and "sli mode") Put the side that says "sli mode" facing the connector, press it down and the metal clips will click back into place.

  • P7N SLI Plat. and memory settings

Hey guy! Again, great forums! Thanks for all the help. Noob question coming up.
I have a couple of questions about the P7N SLI Platinum and memory settings. Oh, before I begin, let me say that I bought this stuff as part of deal, and ended up with the 1066 ram.
I have a few options under my belt, and I don't know which would be the best. I'm also looking for some kind of software to test RAM speeds; test between MHZ and timings performance? Does Sandra do that? Anyone know of any other programs?
Some recommend that I run 1:1 FSB:RAM ratio (looks like the most favored), but some say some boards can do better if everything is running as fast as it can, and not to worry about the ratio.
So which is it with the P7N, which is a 750i chipset?
Here's the rest of the situation:
    I have a set of 2x2GB DDR2 1066 5-5-5-15; 2T  @2.1v.
    I have a Q6600 2.4GHz   @ 3.0Ghz (1333x9) OC-ed.
I have run this memory at 1066 on this board with no hitches (overclocking the board essentially, but it handles it like a champ)
I can also run it at 800; but I have not tried tighter timings on this.
I can run it at 667 and lower timings to 4-4-4-14; 1T with no problems (so far). This gives me a 1:1 ratio as well.
This is what I am running right now.
What should I do with this board and this CPU? Should I keep 1:1 and tighten timings? I don't know if I can go below 4-4-4-14; I haven't tried yet.
Or should I run at 1066 with the stock timings?
I have been reading, but I keep hearing conflicting information (though I will admit, it's hard to find info that is very recent; articles varied from '06-'08) Some say 1:1 is best, others say that it's not necessary these days, with modern boards?
The different performance preferences also seem to vary from chipset to chipset? Is that correct?
Thank You very much for helping a lost noob!

Remus this is no bulldash, i had two 1GB DDR2 1066 cl5 1.8 volt and i sold it on ebay a week ago for £21.00 . i used it on my p6 which would take only ddr2 800 (it ran at 800mhz 1.8 volt but these were not suitable at all in terms of stability) and also on my asus which would take ddr21066 but only after overclocking fsb but keeping the default voltage at 1.8volt. those who say ddr2 1066 1.8 volt does not exist should review their comments. i believe crucial does ddr2 1066  1.8 volt and also ddr2 1066 2.1 volt
here is the proof of ebay

a memory has an oscillator and we  refer to them as 800mhz or 1066mhz. because memory sticks have 240 terminals or pins for transfer of data in order to be able to increase the rate of transfer not only the oscillator speed has to be increased other parameters has to change.
DDR2 1066 1.8 volt is a memory which it's  oscillator oscillate at 1066mhz when 1.8 volt is applied to, it's terminals with cas latency 5 or Cl5.
DDR2 1066 2.1 or 2.2 volt is a memory which it's oscillator oscillate at 1066mhz when 2.1 or 2,2 voltage is applied to it's terminals otherwise it will oscillate at 800mhz. these kind of DDR2 1066 are referred to as DRR2 800 overclocked.

  • P6N SLI Plat + Adaptec 1220 pci-e sata card = lockup and no drive detection

Well today my adaptec aar-1220sa pci-e sata adaptor card came in and I was eager to install it.  My first attempt to boot up without a drive attached was met with a slow bios screen and then when windows vista finally got to the desktop none of my usb peripherals would work.  I flashed the card to the latest bios and installed the newest adaptec drivers and if I hook my wd sata drive to it I cannot boot.  If I leave it in with no drives attached it will let windows boot however the usb hub is out and I have to remove it in device manager and then reinstall it in order to get my mouse and other usb devices back up and running.  I was wondering if anyone else had tried this card and if you got it to work what did you do?  So far for me it will not detect any sata drive that I hook up to it. Thanks.
PS: I'm going to rma this thing as I've never had a drive controller behave like this thing does.  I don't think that it was ready for prime time yet.

Quote from: Puffnstuff on 03-May-07, 00:59:46
My problems were all induced by the adaptec card.  Once it was removed from the system everything went back to normal.  I've used many add in drive controller cards in my day and none of them have behaved so abnormally as this one did.  I believe that the problem is entirely with the adaptec sata adaptor and not with my system or mb.  If I have to add more hd's I'll get a pci card or just add ide drives since I do have a free slot available.
I have used 2 eSATA cards on previous systems.  Always ran like garbage and screwed up the boot process.  Thats why i got the p6n plat with the esata onboard so I'd have no problems.  My guess is you were having an IRQ conflict.
