P6N SLI Platinum - Model 7350 - CPU Compatibility and 4 Red Lights

The CPU compatibility list shows that the Intel E6400 is "under testing". I have been running the subject motherboard with an E6400 for 2 months before a system failure.
The system would not post and the D-Bracket connector showed 4 red lights indicating processor damage or not installed properly. The processor was removed and reseated. Still no post. The processor was removed and replaced with a new E6400. Still 4 red lights. the power supply tested ok. All components were removed and reinstalled one at a time. Still 4 red lights. The mother board was removed from the case and tested outside the case with no components. Still 4 red lights.
Although Intel replaced the processor (as indicated above) one technician stated that the motherboard is "under testing" and he was concerned about long term compatibility.
My last recourse is to replace the 7350 motherboard but I want to be sure it is compatible with the E6400.
Any help or advice regarding the compatibility issue or the 4 red light failure issue is appreciated.

Tried resetting CMOS several times (pushed button). Power Supply disconnected. Removed battery. Replaced battery. Motherboard out of case. only thing installed is video card. Still 4 red lights.
Should also tell you that memory was removed from 2 slots and put back into 1 slot. No change.
Is this motherboard compatible with the E6400?

P6N SLI Platinum (MS-7350) BIOS issue

I RMA'ed my P6N SLI Platinum MS-7350 and got back another identical board. However, this one has BIOS 2.7 in it. Bios 2.7 according to MSI page on this board is actually for the P6N SLI (also a MS-7350). The latest BIOS for the Platinum is 1.7. Im confused. Should I reflash it to 1.7 so that it has the proper BIOS instead of a BIOS from the P6N SLI not platinum? I know I have the platinum because the box says so AND the board has the copper heat piping across it unlike the MSI picture of the SLI (non-plat).

Then they clearly did return the Platinum board to you, as the P6N does not have those extras.

I'm interested because my P7N Platinum has a v1.3 BIOS, and (like your P6N) the lesser-capability board, the P7N, is up to BIOS v2.2. So I have wondered "Why is the simpler board getting more recent updates than the more sophisticated one?" But my system is working perfectly--it ain't broke so I don't need to fix it!

P6N SLI Platinum (MS-7350) 4 gig memory problem

I've owned this board over a year, running fine with 2 gig Corsair XMS2 CM2X1024-6400C4. CPU is E-6600 XP Pro SP3, AMI Bios v1.6, NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTS (320 MB). Power: Zerodba 620 Watt. Had cpu at 3 gz (1333 fsb) from 2.4 and 1:1 ratio (667) on memory, but when I added two new sticks (same as above) I got BSOD. I checked each set individually in first two slots and memtest passes. When all four sticks are in, memtest hangs, varying from 3 minutes to 54 minutes. Is there a conclusion to be drawn other than a bad motherboard/mem slots?
I tried liveupdate, then found out that's bad too and has its own bsod issues.... disappointing. Not too happy with MSI right now. Have I missed something? I put all bios settings back to standard before testing.
From the beginning, the onboard networking didn't work, but I had a spare SMC EZ Card 10/100 PCI (SMC1211 Series) card to pop in and it's been working fine. I have had occasional no video on bootup, but not sure if that's related. Sometimes native 1600x1200 res changes to 1024x768 after waking from S3 suspend, but I suspect that's driver related. I've removed and reseated all cards and memory and checked all cables are tight.
I could use some constructive suggestions please. I just turned 60 and in order to learn something new I have to forget something to make room. If you need more info, please ask.
The board is still under warranty....how is MSI on turnaround time? Am I better off just buying a new board?

shut down pc, open up your pc and remove three memory and leave the one closest to cpu slot 1. power the pc and let window and all prog to load. then download the cpuz prrog link below

make a note of those reading on paper.
then you have to make adjustment in your virtual memory for 4 gb please do that then (if you do not know please reply so i show you how) then shut down pc and insert the other three memory then power the pc and go into bios . in order to change memory setting you have to go from Auto to manual so first change the cpu setting from auto to manual then go towards memory you will see either 667 or 800 depending on your memory if it is 800 the enter 700 then hit return and the other setting you have to change according to those figure you made note of it on paper.
after these if you use the arrow downward keep hitting it till you get to the end of the page and on the left hand side you see another parameter by clickin on the setting you change it from 4% or 6% or 8% or 12% . this is another parameter that you have to change in order to get it stable. i would suggest 8%

P6N SLI Platinum (MS-7350) Bootable Raid Array issues

Attempting to install XP on bootable SATA Raid after text portion of install on reboot receive error message.
"A disk read error occured"
Manual has incorrect dir structure x:\nvidia\system\c55+mcp51\raid <-- does not exist
there is a sataraid folder under xp subfolder which appears to contain the storage controller drivers.
Additionally have attempted to download the sataraid drives from the website with the problem
During the Windows text install it does appear to see the drives as I can format them and install the setup files accordingly but it shows both drives which set to striping I would expect to see only one drive as listed in the bios "Sata Raid XXX.XX"
These drives are good I have tested them on another system without an issue.

Right. They are WD Raptor 150 GB ADFD 10,000 RPM drives.

DVD on IDE2 connection on Mainboard...shows up as Secondary IDE Master in BIOS. I had the Primary IDE Master set on "not installed", and it shows up as "not detected" in the BIOS.
I HAD the boot sequence as: DVD, RAID, disabled. I changed the boot sequence to Raid, DVD, disabled, did the "save and exit" and it went to a black screen with the cursor blinking. So I powered off wit the power button, waited 15 sec, then powered back on with the power button...same thing...black screen with blinking cursor. If I set the order back to DVD, SATA, disabled, I get back to the point I was where I started, that is: bios showing everything right, but xp install showing two drives. I don't know why it gives the black screen when the RAID is set to first boot since it is supposed to skip it if it doesn't work and move on to the next in line, which would be the DVD.

P6N SLi platinum supports some yorkfields

Just in for the P6N SLi platinum users:
The Yorkfield Q9300 and Q9450 are supported on the mainbord with the current BIOS, 1.5 as well as the wolfdale E8190, E8200 and E8500
The Q9450 and E8400 are still under testing.

Great news, altough the QX doesn't work, you now can still buy a new quad with nice speeds

When I read the site today it says than none of the 45nm CPU's such as the Q9300, 9450 etc are supported. Am I misreading this? In a separate thread I mentioned my dilemma. I have the P6NSLi Plat board and need a quad core CPU to run the application I need it for (golf simulator). Any options? Also need a Geforce GTX 285 or 295 card. That should work, correct?

MSI P6N SLI Platinum Sound problem

M using MSI P6N SLI Platinum (MS-7350), i am having problem with sound, i have attached 5.1 sound system all speakers are working fine accept front right, may i know what the problem is ? I've Tried everything thet was possible, Head phone, Speaker Wire, etc. etc.

What if you switched the speakers around? Does the signal from front right still missing?

Conflicting info on Pentium D 930 cpu-P6N SLI Platinum mobo compatability

I have seen conflicting information on the compatibility of the Pentium D 930 CPU and the P6N SLi Platinum motherboard (MS-7350 Ver. 1). On MSI's website I have searched for this motherboard and then gone to the compatible CPUs. Several Pentium D models are supported, however 930 is not among them. In searching on this site I have spotted at least one user who seems to have used these two together successfully.

it appears that this user was using the bios update version 1.5 originally and then upgraded to 1.6. Both appeared to work for him.
I was hoping to find out if anybody else has an opinion as to the suitability of this combination? From the physical evidence, it would appear that this works. Is this perhaps just a situation where MSI didn't bother to update their CPU compatibility list as bios versions evolved?

Well, seems some Presler cpus are supported so it could work. So far I don't see any technical reason why it shouldn't. None the less there is no official support since it is not mentioned in the cpu support chart. Either it will work with no problem or not boot at all. You can do no harm to it trying. If it works the post screen could show unkown processor because of lacking support but if you get that far everything will work fine.
With the other user having it work there should be no problem. Just try it as I guess you have an old 930 lying around (you don't want to buy such an old cpu or do you?).

P6N Sli Platinum front audio panel and CPU temp voltage issues

I got my P6N Sli Platinum yesterday, build up my computer without any major issues. However I have noticed that my audio front panel does not work. It could not detect my microphone when i plug it into front auido panel, it works fine for the rear auido panel though.
Another issues is I highly doubt the accuracy of CPU temp sensor. Msi 's software monitor reports my CPU temp is around 19-20 degree, I know that's too good to be true even I am using a water cooling system. Btw my cpu is E6600. Anyone else has the similar issues?
The third, I notice my CPU voltage is bouncing between 1.1 to 1.24 in CPU-z. And the multiplier is changing from 6 to 9, frequency is changing from 1.6g to 2.4g. I only see this in CPU-z. Msi 's own software reports CPU running at 2.4g though. Is this cpuz issue or something else?
Finally, any tips to max the overclock potential of this board? I have overclocked to 3.1g but there are some crashes. Going higher the board just won't boot up. I read a review on anandtech.com says 1.22 bios is good for oc. Where can i download that? I only found 1.1 bios on official site.

C2D-CPUs have a digital internal sensor to monitor CPU Core temperatures. Have a look at those with Core Temp ( http://www.thecoolest.zerobrains.com/CoreTemp/ ). This Tool reads the temperature data directly from the register of your CPU. There is nothing wrong with the sensor. It is rather the MSI tool that does not read the data it provides correctly.

There is no issue. What CPU-Z allows you to see there is the C1E-feature of your CPU at work. When there is nothing to do your processor will automatically reduce Core Voltages and frequency to save power and keep temperatures down. As soon as the work load increases the multiplier is set back to x9 and core voltages increase dynamically. It is meant to be a good thing.
I have overclocked my system a little and I like that the C1E feature is still working at this speed setting CPU frequency to 2GHz and core voltage to 1.144v when my system is idle.
If you have problems with this feature you can turn it off in BIOS. The option is labeled as "C1E Support" and might be hidden somewhere. You may be able to hit "F4" to unhide it.
The MSI utilities are not the best tools to monitor your system. CPU-Z, Core Temp, Everest, Speedfan, Memset, Rightmark Memory Analyzer for example do a far better job.

P6N SLI Platinum not booting after CPU change

I just upgraded the CPU in my machine with a P6N SLI Platinum motherboard from a E6700 to an E8500. I first upgraded the BIOS to 1.7 as the MSI page seemed to indicate that was a pre-req for this CPU. The machine was working fine for a day with the new CPU.
I changed the CPU in the machine and when I tried to boot, the lights on the motherboard came on as well as the fan, but no video or sound. In addition none of the diagnostic LEDs on the D Bracket light up. They had been previously working. Neither do the lights on my memory sticks light up.
I tried clearing the CMOS by hitting the switch but nothing. I am now going to try switching back CPUs but I don't have much hope that that is the problem given the diagnostic LEDs don't light. Does anyone have any suggestions as to a fix or is this motherboard fried?
P.S. Do you hit hte CMOS clear switch when the computer is off but the motherboard is charged? Or do you unplug the computer and wait for the internal orange light to go out as well too?

Ah. Given I bought my P6N SLI Platinum 3.5 years ago when they first came out I imagine mine is one of the older versions that doesn't support 45nm CPUs by default. Is there a photo somewhere showing where the QC number is located exactly on this MB? It's probably located under my huge CPU heatsink and I'm not going to remove that for a third time just to check.
I really wish the MSI CPU compatibility page mentioned that. It would save me a lot of time. It's not worth my time and effort to dismantle my PC, send them the MB and wait for them to send me back a compatible one.
I verified the BIOS upgrade by looking at the version number at startup and using CPUZ.

Question regarding P6N SLI Platinum CPU support?

I went to the product page list on the main MSI website and it lists the Kentsfield CPUs, but I happen to have an Intel Yorkfield Q9450 CPU. The question is, will this motherboard support that CPU or will it only support the ones listed on the product page?
I have the P6N SLI Platinum mainboard and recently got my hands on the Q9450 chip and would like to swap out CPUs with the Core 2 Duo E6700 that is in there now - anyone know if I can or not? The product page says that a CPU with a FSB of 1333 has to have that set manually in the BIOS, which I am willing to do, just need to know if this mainboard will even support the CPU I want to put into it.

Nuts, that's what I was afraid of...I was thinking that since the product page specifies a CPU with a FSB of 1333 (which the Q9450 has) it would be compatible.

Video messed up with P6N SLI Platinum and ASUS EAX1950PRO

4 GB Patriot Ram
P6N SLI Platinum

RocketFish 700w psu
Problem: I don't get the grpahics card post screen just the MOBO's and the video is all messed up. There are multicolored vertical blinking lines running up and down the screen. I can see through the clutter that it is posting fine (it looks for a boot device) but I figure I need to fix the graphics issue before going any further.
I am working on a new system, so at this point everything is unplugged except the RAM CPU and video card. I have tested it out switching the ram sticks out so unless they are both bad it is not the ram. What is my problem? ANy help would be rad.

Test your video card in a different system or try a different video card in the P6N SLI Platinum.

Dual Core Center- MSI P6N SLI Platinum and MSI 8800 GTS 640

I have both the MSI 650i MOBO and the MSI 8800 GTS vidcard. When using an Asus P5B Dlx MOBO and this vidcard, Dual Core Center was installed and displayed the information for the videocard and allowed a mild OC. Now with both MSI products in the case, Dual Core Center only displays the information on the MOBO-- no 8800 GTS information. The tab at the top for the VGA does not bring up anything. ??? I have tried installing the version on each one of the disks that came with each piece of equipment again and it doesn't seem to make a difference, it doesn't work. I downloaded the most recent version of the utility from the MSI site and still get only the MOBO information. How do I get the display for the video card.
Or since the MSI utilities typically are listed on the forums as not being the greatest, what else can I/should I be using instead?

Running a P6N SLI Platinum and a MSI 7900GTO with Dualcorecenter 2004 and everything is ok.
Never installed any driver from the MSI CD which comes with the board or graphics card. All drivers are downloaded
from Nvidia.
Maybe the 8800 series is not supported yet.

Core 2 Quad Q8400 Problem (P6N SLI Platinum) [FIXED]

Hello, I recently bought an Intel Core 2 Quad Q8400 with the understanding that my P6N SLI Platinum will support Yorkfield cores, given I have the latest BIOS. I updated my BIOS to 1.6, yet it just hangs on the MSI screen and will not POST. I just want to know if I indeed do have the latest BIOS, and if so, if there's anything I or MSI can do to remedy this problem. I really don't have enough money for a new mobo or CPU, and I'm going to be extremely irritated if I just wasted $170 on this... Thanks in advance.

here it says what CPU 's the board can run.
so MSI does say, what you can use, but it doesnt say on the box, cause it changes all the time, so they keep an online list.
and no, they cant write a new BIOS, its a chipset limitation from the NVIDIA chipset that cant be overcome by BIOS update unfortunatly.
I would go for a cheap P45 board, they can almost run all s775 CPU's and its newer then the P6N.

P6N SLI Platinum

I recently built a new computer with the P6N SLI Platinum mobo. The cpu (Intel Duo 2 Core E4300), vid card (evga 8800 GTS), memory (mushkin 2gbddr2 800), hd (Maxtor 320 gig SATA), and psu (apevia atx 500 watt) are all new. When the computer boots, all the fans and leds come on, but the monitor doesn't get a signal and the screen is black. I reseated the vid card and tried dvi/vga adaptor and a different monitor. The orange light and green light on the mobo are on. I used the pcie power 6 pin plug for the vid card. The 24 pin and 4 pin power connections to the mobo are ok. I haven't seen the bios because of the black screen. I also cleared the cmos and still no signal. I also tried an old Voodoo 2 pci vid card without the 2d pass through option and still no signal (don't know if that would work any way, but worth a try). The optical drives and the hd spin so they seem ok. I installed the D bracket with the lights to the usb header and jdb header. Should I see lights on this D bracket when the computer is booting? I don't see any and I don't get any beeps.

I now have no lights on the D bracket after clearing cmos again. I tried booting with one stick of ram and no change, then I tried booting with no ram and no change (no D bracket lights and no beeps). At this point, I have very little plugged into mobo - 1 hd, two optical drives, cpu, 2 fans and that's it.

P6N sli platinum not working

Hi all,
I have a problem, i bought my self a P6N sli platinum, so i installed it but it doesnt work:(
I am not getting any vga signal, i know i installed it alright but it isnt working.
I think its my cpu it might not be working with this P6N, i hope anyone can confirm this, because when i check the CPU support at the MSI site it says its compatible.
I got a : Pentium 4, 3.2 mhz 640 2m/800fsb
I hope i get an answer because i have to return the P6N in 5 days, if it isnt working.

O yes and non of the lights on the D-Bracket go on, the green light and orange light on the P6N are on.
