P6N SLI Platinum Won't Load Vista or XP

I trying to load an OS on a new build, but have run into an issue. The build went well, but the OS won't load.
While trying to load Vista (32bit) it says "Loading Operating System" and the progress bar goes all the way to the end but then never gets any further. It just sits there.
So, not being familiar with Vistas load I thought I would tried XP Home SP2. With this I am at least able to partition the drives and choose quick format but once it gets to 20% this too freezes.
So far I have gone into BIOS and chosen to load both safe defaults and optimized defaults, which makes no difference. I have also tried removing one or the other of the memory sticks, again no help.

MSI P6N Sli Platinum won't Post with E8500

Ok, I've been pulling my hair out on this one off and on for a couple of weeks, and I figured I'd finally just post here and hope for some advice.
I recently bought a C2D E8500 CPU on newegg to replace the E6420 I currently have running in my system. The motherboard is a P6N SLI Platinum with the v1.7 Bios. The problem is that whenever I swap the E8500 in for the E6420 the computer powers on, fans start spinning, and then it just sits. No beeps, no lights, nothing. When I put the E6420 back in the whole thing boots up just fine. I've cleared the CMOS two different ways (removing the battery and hitting the CMOS reset button), and nothing seems to help. I have tested the CPU in another machine, and it works just fine. The MSI tech support has told me that the problem shouldn't be happening, and has suggested that I RMA the board to them. I'd rather not be without my computer for 3-4 weeks, so I figured I'd post here and see if anyone had any advice before I pull the whole system apart and send the MB in.
PSU is a 700W OCZ
Graphics Card is EVGA 9800GT 512MB
Ram is 4GB AData
Let me know if anyone sees any obvious problems.

Sending the board to MSI to be serviced is probably your only option to solve this.

P6N SLI Platinum won't boot from XP CD after setting up striping RAID in BIOS

Hi,
I have tried fixing the boot order to CD, then RAID and vice-versa, no luck. My goal is to boot from the XP CD and press F6 to load the Windows RAID drivers from a floppy. Here is what I see:
It goes past the splash screen, detects the healthy array, tells me that the Sil bios is disabled, goes to the splash screen again, then goes to a flashing cursor on a black background. From there a Ctrl-Alt-Delete does nothing. I have to hit the restart button.
There are two Seagate 320GB drives on SATA1 and SATA2 (Index 0 and 1) in the RAID config.

I had not enabled the SATA3 port (CD/DVD drive) for RAID in the BIOS. While it is not part of the RAID, it apparently needs to be enabled in order to function in a RAID configuration.

P6N Sli Platinum front audio panel and CPU temp voltage issues

Hi All,
I got my P6N Sli Platinum yesterday, build up my computer without any major issues. However I have noticed that my audio front panel does not work. It could not detect my microphone when i plug it into front auido panel, it works fine for the rear auido panel though.
Another issues is I highly doubt the accuracy of CPU temp sensor. Msi 's software monitor reports my CPU temp is around 19-20 degree, I know that's too good to be true even I am using a water cooling system. Btw my cpu is E6600. Anyone else has the similar issues?
The third, I notice my CPU voltage is bouncing between 1.1 to 1.24 in CPU-z. And the multiplier is changing from 6 to 9, frequency is changing from 1.6g to 2.4g. I only see this in CPU-z. Msi 's own software reports CPU running at 2.4g though. Is this cpuz issue or something else?
Finally, any tips to max the overclock potential of this board? I have overclocked to 3.1g but there are some crashes. Going higher the board just won't boot up. I read a review on anandtech.com says 1.22 bios is good for oc. Where can i download that? I only found 1.1 bios on official site.

C2D-CPUs have a digital internal sensor to monitor CPU Core temperatures. Have a look at those with Core Temp ( http://www.thecoolest.zerobrains.com/CoreTemp/ ). This Tool reads the temperature data directly from the register of your CPU. There is nothing wrong with the sensor. It is rather the MSI tool that does not read the data it provides correctly.

There is no issue. What CPU-Z allows you to see there is the C1E-feature of your CPU at work. When there is nothing to do your processor will automatically reduce Core Voltages and frequency to save power and keep temperatures down. As soon as the work load increases the multiplier is set back to x9 and core voltages increase dynamically. It is meant to be a good thing.
I have overclocked my system a little and I like that the C1E feature is still working at this speed setting CPU frequency to 2GHz and core voltage to 1.144v when my system is idle.
If you have problems with this feature you can turn it off in BIOS. The option is labeled as "C1E Support" and might be hidden somewhere. You may be able to hit "F4" to unhide it.
The MSI utilities are not the best tools to monitor your system. CPU-Z, Core Temp, Everest, Speedfan, Memset, Rightmark Memory Analyzer for example do a far better job.

P6N SLI Platinum, audio driver update gives "No Driver was supported..."

I have the audio driver from the CD that came with the mobo, but I wanted to update it to the new version. Currently I have R1.67 2.32, I tried to install the driver (R1.83 2.51) from http://global.msi.com.tw/index.php?func=downloaddetail&type=driver&maincat_no=1&prod_no=1140 but get the message "No Driver was supported in this driver package".
Also, I went to the Realtek site and got their even newer driver R1.84 but it asked me to remove the previous driver first, I'd rather check with the boards first to see what is going on.

Another off topic question. Does the Dual Core Center work ok with Vista x64? Wondering just in case before I get to using it. On my first Vista install is seemed to work, 2nd format it would come up with 2 error messages and not start:
"Error! unable to load ntuneoem.dll" and "Failed to load overclocking driver! This program must run as an administrator."
I have ntune installed on my 2nd format (which I found out doesn't work in Vista 64 properly) but cannot uninstall it from Add/Remove. A wizard window comes up and closes in the same seconds when I click uninstall. Tried to uninstall using the MSI CD which with I loaded it, still gives an error (tried to google the error msg but the msg is extremely rare and doesn't point to the problem). Going to have to manually remove it it seems and hope I get it all.

I've read tons of posts on forums, but most just give FSB speeds, not actual numbers to use in setting the system clock, so how do we know what to use actually?
When do you use the 1:1 ratio? or any of the others if your motherboard BIOS doesn't let you manually set your memory multiplier?

FSB VTT Voltage-I read that if you go to 20% it stabilizes your rig when
you overclock, so I set it and it worked great.

System clock I believe is how the memory freq is generated. "Auto" would be automatic, "Linked" would be linked to FSB speed, "Manual" wold be manually setting the speed.
65c on the cores or the CPU? Because if it's the cores, drop down, anywhere over 60c and your CPU may start skipping cycles.

CPU ratio is the multiplier in which you times the FSB speed to generate/set the CPU clock. E.g:

yes only increase for stability, never increase because you think you may need too.

They are fine, just don't go over 2.3v, your RAM chips will start to fry otherwise.

No, wrong way to do it. Do it like CPU VCore, only increase when stability is needed. Also monitor temperatures of NB as much as your CPU. Fan speeds don't bother me either, but temps do! Watch them at all times when overclocking.

Only increase if you need to, the SB core is usually the last voltage that needs increasing.

It's the voltage you supply to the FSB bus, too much and you will kill the FSB and your mainboard will be a fancy paper weight. Only increase when stability is needed, just like every other voltage.

DOA? P6N SLI Platinum wont POST

Hello,
I recently bought a P6N SLI Platinum, and it won't POST. The screen flickers with the graphic card's POST, but then goes blank.
After cycling through some steps, the 4 LEDs of the self-diagnostic PCI slot cover are indicated as:
GR
GG
Which seems to indicate the board is getting hung up in the "Floppy Controller initiate" stage. Seems weird to me, both to get hung up at that stage and to have no POST on the screen before then. I unplugged the floppy cable, pushed the "CMOS reset" switch, but on switching back on the same symptoms persist.
I've no hard drive plugged in, just a Memtest CD in a DVD drive plugged onto the IDE. The CD and DVD drive are both good.
Is this a DOA board? What else should I try?

Am still having issues. I decided that the problem was my display, so bought a new one. I managed to get Vista 64 to install, but the screen kept going blank. Tried a different screen, same problem. Then after a restart it wouldn't POST again. So I pulled everything out except the CPU, cooling and little MOBO display LED thing, and reseated the graphics card. System still won't boot, but shows intermittent displays on the 4 LEDs. First it got hung up on:

RG
which indicates "Initializing Video Interface". I power-cycled again, and it then got hung at:
RG
RG
which now indicates "Testing Base and Extended Memory". So I power-cycle again, and now it won't show any LEDs at all!
I was wondering whether the MOBO or graphics card is at fault. But considering the inconsistent symptoms shown by the MOBO indicators, I'm inclined to suspect the MOBO.
Is it me, or is this motherboard a piece of ****? I can't work out what the problem is. Not sure what else to try. I haven't flashed any BIOS, done any OC'ing, so I do expect a much more reliable MOBO than this at the price they charged for it.
Open to suggestions.

P6N SLI Platinum

I recently built a new computer with the P6N SLI Platinum mobo. The cpu (Intel Duo 2 Core E4300), vid card (evga 8800 GTS), memory (mushkin 2gbddr2 800), hd (Maxtor 320 gig SATA), and psu (apevia atx 500 watt) are all new. When the computer boots, all the fans and leds come on, but the monitor doesn't get a signal and the screen is black. I reseated the vid card and tried dvi/vga adaptor and a different monitor. The orange light and green light on the mobo are on. I used the pcie power 6 pin plug for the vid card. The 24 pin and 4 pin power connections to the mobo are ok. I haven't seen the bios because of the black screen. I also cleared the cmos and still no signal. I also tried an old Voodoo 2 pci vid card without the 2d pass through option and still no signal (don't know if that would work any way, but worth a try). The optical drives and the hd spin so they seem ok. I installed the D bracket with the lights to the usb header and jdb header. Should I see lights on this D bracket when the computer is booting? I don't see any and I don't get any beeps.

I now have no lights on the D bracket after clearing cmos again. I tried booting with one stick of ram and no change, then I tried booting with no ram and no change (no D bracket lights and no beeps). At this point, I have very little plugged into mobo - 1 hd, two optical drives, cpu, 2 fans and that's it.

Kingston Value Ram 1GB 667MH (of course tried in different slots, stick @ time)
NEC DVD player/burner
Old Maxtor IDE drive W/OS (I have new Seagate serial but won’t install it until I get everything else running.
Computer goes in an endless reboot cycle. First, showing a black screen with small parallel white hash marks. Can pull up Bios but that’s as far as I can go. At first, I thought the high end Geil memory might be at fault. But after installing the more generic Kingston I get the same looping.
In Bios, it is reading all my hardware; CPU, memory, hard drives, temperatures, voltages, etc. the only thing it doesn’t specifically show is the Evga video card. I don’t know if there is really any place it would show except in Hardware Profile.
One other thing, Bios is showing the NEC as the Primary IDE Master and the Maxtor as the Secondary IDE master (although I have tried it both ways). I generally like to boot first from my DVD then go to hard drive.
I don’t know where to go from here. Can anyone give me some suggestions?

With JUST new Sata drive & DVD I get message "Reboot & select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device & press a key" in other words, install windows. No flashing anything.

Yes, have tried boot sequence every which way . DVD functions as I ran Memtest for 4 hours last night.
I think I will use the information mentioned in the 3 links V gave me earlier to "repair" the OS on my old Maxtor drive. It is partitioned with OS in one area by itself, docs in another partition, programs another, etc. so I wouldn't lose any work. At worst, I might have to reinstall some programs. At best, I accomplish what I set out to do.

P6N SLI Platinum mobo with hard drive/sata crashes

i've experienced a (now recurring) problem with my hardware over the past several months. i've come home from work twice now, once about 2 months ago, the other just today to find my computer stuck at the windows xp loading screen. if i tried to reboot the system, it would hang at that point, until i disconnected the offending drive/sata channel (i had 3 hard drives in my system, 1 150gb drive with operating system, ect, and 2 500gb drives for storage (mp3s, video, ect). i've narrowed the problem down to either the motherboard or the sata cables (i don't have spare cables to test with), as the hard drives work perfectly in an external usb enclosure. any ideas of what could be wrong?

in brief,
1- if you have one memory it should be in slot 1, closest to cpu, if two X 1Gb then they should be in one and three.
2- do you know what is virtual memory if so have you made adjustment or not.
3- you have freeze due to wrong bios setting till we get a good picture of your bios difficult to pin point the mistake, so use either a digi cam or web cam and take shoots of your bios then we can pin point the mistakes

Net Issues with P6N SLI Platinum

Hello all. I am having issues getting the internet to work on my new system with the following specs:
Mother Board = MSI NVidia nForce 650i SLI Chipset Based P6N SLI Platinum
CPU ............ = Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600, LGA775 Pkg 2.40 GHz, 8MB L2 Cache Total, 1066 MHz FSB
Memory ...... = Geil 2GB PC2-6400 DDR2 800 CL=5-4-4-12 1.9-2.5v (x4)
PSU ............ = Zerodba 620W
Video .......... = EVGA e-GeForce 8800 GTS
Hard Drives . = Seagate Barracuda 320 GB SATA 3/GB Transfer
OS .............. = Vista Ultimate OEM 64-Bit
I can't get the system to recognize the router or network or even access the internet when plugged directly into the cable modem. I've power cycled plenty of times, and the other systems in my network work without fail. I've disabled UAC, windows firewall, and anything else that might be interfering on the software end. I have installed the latest drivers from the msi site, and have even installed the latest nforce drivers from NVidia's site as well. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

P6n SLI PLATINUM bios v1.2

So I upgraded to 4gb ram finally, and have got it to work without errors in dimm slots 2 and 4, and have been having performance issues such as slow loading, stuttering in games, and just in general slowdown with loading up applications, but absolutely no crashes or freezes of any kind, no BSODs or anything else that would be hardware related I assume.
Defragged, fresh install of windows 7, video card drivers updated and everything else checks out fine. The only thing I can think of is that over in HardForum doing a google search brought me to this post:http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1164174 with issues related to 4gb on the mainboard having slowdowns with older bios versions.
Seeing as how this is relevant to me getting new memory, my patriot memory gave out with BSODs so I was forced to upgrade but had way better performance with just 2gb stick of ram (even in win7).
Should I do a bios update?

I haven't really done much upgrading since I purchased this a few years back, and quite surprised to see the hit and stuttering in performance in games all of a sudden after upgrading to new ram, and the ram tested out fine for 3 days straight doing multiple passes with memtest 4.0. I tried doing it in DIMM slots 1 and 3 but have been getting errors, maybe I've got a bad board?

P6N SLI Platinum BIOS issue...

So I purchased an e8400 processor after the 1.6 BIOS update came out for my P6N SLI Platinum, got it yesterday. I put the processor in and it didn't work . I turned to Google to have the internet fix the issue, and it seems if I adjust some options in my BIOS, it may make the e8400 work. Two of the things it said to change were EIST and C1E. I went into my BIOS, and tried hitting F4 in the CPU menu to get C1E to show up, but it won't. The EIST option is no where to be found either...
Anyone else running into the same issue, or got a e8400 to work after changing stuff in the BIOS?

Mobo: P6N SLI Platinum
CPU: Intel Pentium D 930
RAM 2GB (1GB x2) Patriot DDR 667 (PC 5300)
GPU: eVGA nVidia GeForce 8800GT
PSU: Thermaltake 500W

Dont clear the bios after you take out the old cpu or it wont work
I have been tinkering with it all day just to see what the actual problem is and it doesnt seem that it is the EIST OR C1E. from what I have done it seems that it is a problem with the voltages that keeps it from booting. If you change those with the other cpu in and then save and exit. Dont let it reboot, shut it off before it starts to boot up again and put the e8400 in

Followup-- MSI P6N SLI Platinum does not work with E8400

I am just following up like I said I would... and the *RMA'ed* E8400 still fails to post with a BIOS updated (v1.6) P6N SLI Platinum. It works fine with an E4500... but not the E8400. MSI really shouldn't say it's compatible when it's not. I am going to send the board back to Directron and replace it with the new Gigabyte GA-EP35-DS3L. Very unhappy with MSI right now and probably won't buy from them again. I'm going to stick with another gigabyte for now. Anything I can do before sending it back tonight? I am very disappointed, especially because this really is a perfect board for me.

You can drop MSI an email to see if you are able to get an engineering BIOS to try out.
