P6N-SLI PLATNUM, Memory voltage non adjustable ?

MS-7350 ver 1.0  bios ver 1.6   memory voltage cannot be changed from auto to manual for voltage adjustment. is there something i need to do to unlock this ?  memory timings are adjustable.

thanks for the quick responce, i will try that. all of the other settings are changed by first pressing enter first. also the memory voltage is not in bold white letters like the other settings, which led me to believe it is locked out.

    Hi All.
    I have  -
    MSI P6N Sli V2 -1.2bios
    Intel Quad Core q6600
    3gig Crucial Ballastic Memory 6400 800mhz
    MSI 8600gt 256mb
    Vista 64  bit
2 gig works fine gets a rating of 5.0 on vista but when 3gig is installed 4.5 is my rating when this should be 5.9. Now by looking at other threads people where able to fix this out with a beta/newer bio's but i never saw anythin on the V2 board. I was unsure on which one i need to get so that why iam starting this as a way to get the correct bios so i can use all my memory at 800mhz and not 399mhz as told by CPUIZ!
    Any Help is welcomed help!

CPUZ regonize memory at being 800mhz
Don't confuse memory type and memory speed.  CPU-Z might have recognized your modules as DDR2-800 modules (and it most likely still does) but it is impossible that it told you that your RAM was operating @800 MHz (because that would equal DDR2-1600 MHz). Impossible.

VISTA has rather an illogical performance rating tool.
Don't trust those ratings.  You sleep better that way.

nother thing is that the FSB : DRAM ratio is 2:3 surely this should be 1:1?
No, if the ratio would be set to 1:1 your RAM would be operating @266 MHz [=DDR2-533].
2:3 equals 1:1.5, your CPU operates @266 MHz FSB clock speed, that means
    266 MHz x 1.5 = 400 MHz [DDR2-800 MHz] memory clock speed.
BTW: If your memory really was operating at only half of its rated speed, your memory score would be a lot less.

  • MSI P6N SLI Platinum Voltage regulator cooler size question

I have a question about MSI P6N SLI Platinum's Voltage regulator cooler. Is it the same size of K9N SLI Platinum? The reason I ask is I plan to use water cooling on it. But the only regulator  waterblock I can find is desgined for K9N SLI Platinum from aqua computer http://www.aqua-pcs.co.uk/index.asp?function=DISPLAYPRODUCT&productid=218. So can I use this one on P6N SLI?

I guess not... P6N is much thinner, if your K9N VR cooler is as thin, then it can fit in. But I guess not.

  • P6N Sli-Fi cannot up RAM voltage?

    Hi All.
I've read through my motherboard manual and unless I'm missing something simple the BIOS will not allow me to change the memory voltage to anything above 1.8v. It stays set to AUTO. I can change the CPU voltage, but not RAM voltage. Is this because the Kingston Ram stick I have in it will not allow higher then 1.8v, or am I doing something wrong? I hit enter to select, nothing happens, I use the + and - simples and cannot adjust.
Basically I have some G.Skill ram that won't post and I just wanted to try to up the voltage to 1.9v and see if I could use my 2-1gb G.skill sticks before I RMA them for some Ram listed in the supported section. Figured it might be worth a shot to attempt to get this ram to work.

    Hey there Spafra,
You probablyalready got your problem solved, but just in case...
g.Skill rates your DIMMs at 1.8 - 2.0v, so you are safe to up the voltage within that range(to include 2.0v). If they still fail to boot at he higher voltages, you can still RMA them through g.Skill. That is, if the mobo boots with the Kingston or other 1.8v DIMM.
I have different RAM, though they are rated 1.8-2.1v, the mobo booted them fine with the 'DRAM Voltage' set at 'auto' (actually, with no voltage specified in the field).
Boot to BIOS Setup with the Kingston ram, if necessary, set your voltage to whatever you decide on, make any other changes you like, then press <F10><ENTER> and when the screen goes black turn OFF the computer AT THE PSU. Unplug the power cord from the computer, as well as the 24pin ATX and 4/8 pin CPU Power connectors (per  the manual), Change your RAM out for the g.skill, reconnect, and hit the 'START' button.
    Hopefully it'll boot ok.
If not, you may have to disable 'Execute Bit Disable' in the >>Advanced settings >CPU feature > Execute Bit Disable   [DISABLE] menu until you have a successful boot.
    TonyB.

  • P6N Sli Platinum front audio panel and CPU temp voltage issues

    Hi All,
I got my P6N Sli Platinum yesterday, build up my computer without any major issues. However I have noticed that my audio front panel does not work. It could not detect my microphone when i plug it into front auido panel, it works fine for the rear auido panel though.
Another issues is I highly doubt the accuracy of CPU temp sensor. Msi 's software monitor reports my CPU temp is around 19-20 degree, I know that's too good to be true even I am using a water cooling system. Btw my cpu is E6600. Anyone else has the similar issues?
The third, I notice my CPU voltage is bouncing between 1.1 to 1.24 in CPU-z. And the multiplier is changing from 6 to 9, frequency is changing from 1.6g to 2.4g. I only see this in CPU-z.  Msi 's own software reports CPU running at 2.4g though. Is this cpuz issue or something else?
Finally, any tips to max the overclock potential of this board? I have overclocked to 3.1g but there are some crashes. Going higher the board just won't boot up. I read a review on anandtech.com says 1.22 bios is good for oc. Where can i download that? I only found 1.1 bios on official site.
    Any reply will be appreciated.
    Cheers

C2D-CPUs have a digital internal sensor to monitor CPU Core temperatures.  Have a look at those with Core Temp ( http://www.thecoolest.zerobrains.com/CoreTemp/ ).  This Tool reads the temperature data directly from the register of your CPU. There is nothing wrong with the sensor.  It is rather the MSI tool that does not read the data it provides correctly.

There is no issue.  What CPU-Z allows you to see there is the C1E-feature of your CPU at work.  When there is nothing to do your processor will automatically reduce Core Voltages and frequency to save power and keep temperatures down.  As soon as the work load increases the multiplier is set back to x9 and core voltages increase dynamically.  It is meant to be a good thing.
I have overclocked my system a little and I like that the C1E feature is still working at this speed setting CPU frequency to 2GHz and core voltage to 1.144v when my system is idle.
If you have problems with this feature you can turn it off in BIOS. The option is labeled as "C1E Support" and might be hidden somewhere.  You may be able to hit "F4" to unhide it.
The MSI utilities are not the best tools to monitor your system.  CPU-Z, Core Temp, Everest, Speedfan, Memset, Rightmark Memory Analyzer for example do a far better job.

  • P6N SLI CPU voltage options

    hi all
I have checked the other P6N SLI posts for this but i was unable to find it. no doubt someone will point me to one but i will ask anyway.
In the cell menu the option for voltage for the CPU is a little confusing to me. My previous asus motherboard had simple voltage settings going up in 0.250v sections, like
    1.250v
    1.275v
    1.300v
they were alot more accurate and smaller but i hope you get my idea.
In my P6N SLI menu, it only gives options like 0.125v and upwards to around 0.300v
I do not get what voltage is what for my CPU. As my CPU is a E6550 its highest voltage is 1.5, how can i know what to select if i were to overclock the thing?
    thanks for anyone who understands.

oh right, so how do i find what my default VID voltage of my CPU is ?
    Intel lists it as
    VID Voltage Range: 0.85V – 1.5V
You can get the VID by downloading and running Core-Temp.  You can leave the CPU voltage at "auto" and the MB will adjust for the correct CPU voltage..you can see approx CPU voltage in bios, under Hardware  Monitoring.

  • P6N sli platinum + F2-6400PHU1-1GBNR memory from g.skill

    So I have a msi p6n sli platinum (650i)  and 2 x F2-6400PHU1-1GBNR  g. skill memory.
I was wondering what timings / voltages others had reliably attained with the same.

I need to understand the purpose of this thread. It is fine to have general enquiries on the board's combination with other hardwares, but at least provide us more idea of what you are trying to understand.
It'll be good if you can let us know your current config on your current system combination and break the ice from there.

im with Jack and MSI doesnt support 1066MHz on the P6N SLi Plat.
    Read here:
    http://global.msi.com.tw/index.php?func=prodmbspec&maincat_no=1&cat2_no=&cat3_no=&prod_no=1140#menu
Fifth line from top, 800MHz is max.
And yes i know it says so on the box, that 1066 is supported, but it isnt.
But if you think you'll have a faster computer, well it isnt noticeable, that is if you have any gain, cause usually those high MHz DIMM's are on higher latencies then lower MHz DIMM's. If you gain anything its a few nanoseconds we are talking about here.
For instance 1066MHz 5-5-5-18, is as fast as 800MHz 4-4-4-15
Also DDR2 1066MHz is usually overvolted 800MHz memory and thus will have a shorter and sometimes more unstable lifespan.
Furthermore if you use 4 sticks-o-ram on this board, your limited to 667MHz, otherwise your memorycontroller would be overflooded with too much data.

Maximum temperature at the junction point (where the die is glued to the chip carrier inside). Max temp is 100°C for Allendale and 85°C for conroe. The internal sensor coretemp uses does not return a absolute temperature but rather how many C° is left until Tjunction is reached. So to calculate the temperature they use Tjunction - Sensor Reading = Temperature. You can see here how speedfan's wrong assumption of 85°C for allendale creates a 15°C offset.

  • MSI P6N SLI-FI - two video cards non SLI help

    Hi,
I am currently running Win 7 Pro 64bit on a MSI P6N SLI with a GeForce GTS 250.
I would like to run 3 monitors and thus install another video card. I was thinking about an GeForce 9400GT using PCIe.
My manual tells me I can only run two video cards in SLI mode, which I don't want to do.
Searching this forum, I found two contradicting posts; one telling me that it is possible to run two cards non-SLI (https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=107857.0), one telling me it's not (https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=124883.0).
Can anyone tell me which one's true?
And as an alternative, would it be possible to use a PCI (non-PCIe) card like a GeForceFX 5200 additionally to my GTS 250?
    Any help would be appreciated,
    greetings
    cmdkeen

that guy would be me and yes, my pc BSOD-ed like hell with a 8600GT and a 9800GTX, but only after a few days.
maybe it was a driverissue, but I gave up after a 3 weeks
now im running a 250GTS alongside the 9800GTX (non sli !!) and that works fine, since the 250 is essentially a rebranded 9800GTX.
so dont  be to happy yet and wait for a few days/weeks and see how it goes.
if it BSOD's, best bet is to get an identic vga, would be my advice.
good luck an keep us posted.

  • What the most stable quality 4gb (2x2gb) memory for the P6n SLi Platinum?

    Hi,
I'm looking for the most stable and very good quality 4gb of ram for the P6N sli platinum MB - what make does everyone recommend for this board?
I note that Kingston value ram is mentioned on the Approved list but I wanted something faster than the valueram?
Does anyone have either G.Skill or super talent and if so how do they work?  Any other makes that you can recommend?
I know that there have been issue swith 4gb of ram for Xp/Vista 32 bit systems but from what I am reading hopefully the next bios should resolve this ...?
Thanks as this is the only item that's holding up my build now !

I don´t know whats the most stable 4GB solution is, I only can tell you, that I use Micron/Crucial mamory for years and never had any problems.
Actually in my new P6N-SLI Platinum are working 4 1GB dimms of crucial value ram ddr2-667 without problems.
There is a new bois version 1.22 for the platinum which solved the 4GB problem of earlier bios versions.
That was a bios problem and not a problem of the ram.
Manufacturer as Gskill on their GBHZ6400 modules and OCZ on their 1066 SLI modules are using the same Micron chips called D9GMH which are on my values.
They have great potential above the rated 667 speed. Cause i´m coming from germany and at the moment the prices of memory here are very cheap, a lot of people are thinking about upgrading their memory.
All what I read about here in germany G.Skill, Mushkin(very expensive), OCZ, A-data, TeamGroup are the most reliable rams
when it comes to high speeds and low latency modules.
At least I recommend the Crucial Ballistix ddr800 if you are not able to handle special settings in the motherboard bios.
And of course there are coming 2GB modules from most of the manufacturers, so you only need 2 modules for 4GB.
    It´s your choice...
    greetings from germany

  • P6N SLI. Will G.Skill memory work with this board?

I have been an exclusive Asus MoBo user over the few years that I've been building my own rigs. Tom's Hardware has a good write-up on MSI boards and it caught my attention and interest, especially after comparing features versus cost as well as positive user reviews.
I'm wanting to build the next system around a Core 2 Duo and eventually include all that would be necessary for an efficient HD-DVD/BlueRay system.
After much comparing I've decided enthusiastically that I want a P6N SLI board. My current system is based on an Asus P5ND2-SLI board sporting a P4 630 CPU and 2 Raptors in RAID 0 configuration. It provides imagery via an EVGA 7800GT CO card. My last minute concern comes from narrow memory compatibility according to the MSI memory guide. This concerns me because my current system uses DDR2 memory and I just recently invested in two 1GB DDR2 667 G.Skill modules for it which I have yet to receive.
My enthusiasm for an MSI board...the one I want...was bolstered by the idea that I thought I could use these new memory modules in it. Not seeing G.Skill in the MSI memory list has dampened my enthusiasm.
If anyone knows if G.Skill will work in this MSI board I'd appreciate the renewal of excitement. Otherwill I'll just spent $20 more for an Asus board.
    Thank you

Just a few days ago there was a Test-Report on the P6N SLI on the German MSI Forum.
    http://www.msi-forum.de/thread.php?threadid=29899
These were the Modules that were used throughout the test:
    G.Skill DIMM Kit 2048MB PC2-6400U CL4-4-4-12 (DDR2-800) (F2-6400PHU2-2GBHZ)
I am not sure of the specific kind of G.Skill modules you ordered.  Here is an overview if all modules with exact model-IDs:
    http://www.gskill.com/gallerymain.html
If you know the exact kind of the RAM-sticks you already purchased you can also have a look here:
    http://www.gskill.com/gstechforum/
The thing is that it is not only a question of if G.Skill modules are supported or not but also a question of which specific model you are planning to install.
