P6N SLI V2 wont boot, blank screen

Hi, Ive just baught on eBay the MSI P6n SLI V2 mobo and i got it unwrapped it carefully as you do, took out my Abit P35 Pro and wacked this new board in (i want SLI so this was the best option with my budget (as the Abit board only supports Crossfire (and at a appalling x4 speed) so ive installed it all and ive put all the wires in following the instructions and it boots up perfectly, making all the normal sounds.
Now heres the problem... i have only 1 G card atm (lending the other out to someone) so i put it in NoN SLI mode, and i jsut get a blank screen. ive tryed other cards, allways a blank screen, and the cards all work in other pcs.
The cards i am trying to put into it are duel Geforce 8800 GT Fatal1es (1gb DDR2) and i have also tryed it with an ATI Radeon X 1860 (or something) but to no avail.
I have flashed the CMOS and tested to see if it was my RAM (Corsair Duel channel 4gb DDR2 800mhz (2x 2gb)
nothing happened...
so am i going to have to get my money back or is there something i havent done???

You have not provided enough info to help you. Please provide CPU model and PSU model and amps for +3.3V, +5V & +12V.

What do you mean by that? You 'cleared CMOS' or 'flashed BIOS'? Two entirely different things.

Hi Guys and Girls,
My Girlfriend recently inherited a T41 from her father and I decided to give it a clean up for her as her father had no anti spyware protection or anti-virus, so after installing a few programmes like AVAST and Spybot to clear it up we turned it off and yestreday when we tried rebooting for the first time, it went to the dreaded blue screen. So my GF resetted and now it wont even boot, power is commin through, the lights are on, I can here the drive on, but screen is blank, and nothing is happening. Can anyone help? would it be caused by the anit-viral programmes? or is ther something nasty at work here? I do know that the USB plugs had stopped working a few months ago, but I thought that was due to driver issues whihc I was goin to correct..if that info helps. Hardware failure doesn't necessarily refer to dropping the laptop or spilling liquids onto it. It refers to the end of the life of a particular component, which would then need replacing. Laptops are not made to last forever. Everyone knows that the only thing that lasts "forever" are diamonds.
Now back to your situation, you said that the IBM screen doesn't show up. If you look very closely to the LCD while booting up, are you able to see anything?

DOA? P6N SLI Platinum wont POST

Hello,
I recently bought a P6N SLI Platinum, and it won't POST. The screen flickers with the graphic card's POST, but then goes blank.
After cycling through some steps, the 4 LEDs of the self-diagnostic PCI slot cover are indicated as:
GR
GG
Which seems to indicate the board is getting hung up in the "Floppy Controller initiate" stage. Seems weird to me, both to get hung up at that stage and to have no POST on the screen before then. I unplugged the floppy cable, pushed the "CMOS reset" switch, but on switching back on the same symptoms persist.
I've no hard drive plugged in, just a Memtest CD in a DVD drive plugged onto the IDE. The CD and DVD drive are both good.
Is this a DOA board? What else should I try?

2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 Conroe
PCP&C 610W, 5V@30A/12V@49A PSU

Am still having issues. I decided that the problem was my display, so bought a new one. I managed to get Vista 64 to install, but the screen kept going blank. Tried a different screen, same problem. Then after a restart it wouldn't POST again. So I pulled everything out except the CPU, cooling and little MOBO display LED thing, and reseated the graphics card. System still won't boot, but shows intermittent displays on the 4 LEDs. First it got hung up on:
RR
RG
which indicates "Initializing Video Interface". I power-cycled again, and it then got hung at:
RG
RG
which now indicates "Testing Base and Extended Memory". So I power-cycle again, and now it won't show any LEDs at all!
I was wondering whether the MOBO or graphics card is at fault. But considering the inconsistent symptoms shown by the MOBO indicators, I'm inclined to suspect the MOBO.
Is it me, or is this motherboard a piece of ****? I can't work out what the problem is. Not sure what else to try. I haven't flashed any BIOS, done any OC'ing, so I do expect a much more reliable MOBO than this at the price they charged for it.
Open to suggestions.

T60 froze. wont boot. black Screen

Hello.
My T60 2007 QPG froze.
Pushed the power button to shut down.
Now it wont boot: fan starts then stops, just a blank black screen, no beep or beep sequence.
After reading the board i removed cmos battery, ram, hdd: no beep indicating an error.
Any suggestion?

P6n sli platinum cannot boot up

Hello
Everytime I boot up the D bracket suggests the computer is failing on initializing the floppy drive controller. i have changed the cable, and changed the floppy drive but same effect.
In the BIOS, if I go through and F10 for no save and exit, it then exits to bank screen as it fails at the point above. If i make any changes in the BIOS, and then try to accept those changes it freezes on pressing either Y or enter. At that point all I can do is turn off and start again. Naturally it doen't retain those changes. I have done this several times to disable the floppy.
I have removed the battery and put it back, (It's 16 months old). It then did allow me to disable floppy but still machine did not go beyond the above point. Whenever I have tried to go back into the Bios again, it will now freeze when I try and accept any change in settings.
As you will see I am unable to even boot from a floppy at this point so cannot een consider updating the BIOS. However before yesterday it has been working perfectly.
Any suggestions, or the loan of an axe to reprogramme the ****** thing would be much appriecated.

Remove power cord from the PSU and leave just one memory stick in 1st DIMM, once done proceed with >>Clear CMOS Guide<<
Then try to boot, if no change disconnect any storages{4 HDD's, 3 Optical drives, and any USB devices which you may have attached} and re-test.

P6N SLI Won't boot from SCSI card

I have a P6N SLI motherboard with a SCSI card I'm trying to boot from. The BIOS sees the card (as indicated by the BIOS when "Quick Booting" is disabled), however, it doesn't run the option ROM on the card necessary for it to boot from the SCSI card. I've tried several different SCSI cards (BusLogic, LSI, QLogic, Adaptec) and using a couple different video cards, one of them PCI. The only things I have plugged into the board are the video card and the SCSI card. Nothing seems to work. Am I missing an option in the BIOS or something?

Next you'll see a listing of devices connected to that card, SCSI devices in this case - assuming you have any plugged in.
4. After POST status screen - displays CPU, memory, any serial/parallel/USB IO configured and all devices initialized by the system BIOS and their assigned IRQs.
5. System BIOS loads and runs the boot sector on the configured boot device. If any option ROMs have hooked themselves into interrupt 0x13 (option ROM boot interrupt), i.e. SCSI, then a SCSI boot device is used.
My problem is that step 3 is skipped. My system goes straight from step 2 to step 4. Without the option ROM being called by the system BIOS, there's no chance of any SCSI device being used as a boot device.

P6N SLI Platinum not booting after CPU change

I just upgraded the CPU in my machine with a P6N SLI Platinum motherboard from a E6700 to an E8500. I first upgraded the BIOS to 1.7 as the MSI page seemed to indicate that was a pre-req for this CPU. The machine was working fine for a day with the new CPU.
I changed the CPU in the machine and when I tried to boot, the lights on the motherboard came on as well as the fan, but no video or sound. In addition none of the diagnostic LEDs on the D Bracket light up. They had been previously working. Neither do the lights on my memory sticks light up.
I tried clearing the CMOS by hitting the switch but nothing. I am now going to try switching back CPUs but I don't have much hope that that is the problem given the diagnostic LEDs don't light. Does anyone have any suggestions as to a fix or is this motherboard fried?
P.S. Do you hit hte CMOS clear switch when the computer is off but the motherboard is charged? Or do you unplug the computer and wait for the internal orange light to go out as well too?

Ah. Given I bought my P6N SLI Platinum 3.5 years ago when they first came out I imagine mine is one of the older versions that doesn't support 45nm CPUs by default. Is there a photo somewhere showing where the QC number is located exactly on this MB? It's probably located under my huge CPU heatsink and I'm not going to remove that for a third time just to check.
I really wish the MSI CPU compatibility page mentioned that. It would save me a lot of time. It's not worth my time and effort to dismantle my PC, send them the MB and wait for them to send me back a compatible one.
I verified the BIOS upgrade by looking at the version number at startup and using CPUZ.

Who did the replacement? If the screen was replaced due to a drop, there may be some internal damage or loose connection.
Some iPad users have been able to revive their dropped iPad. Turn the iPad over and give it a HARD SLAP on the back. May take several slaps.

S10 would not boot, blank screen, hardware problem??

hello all,
my s10 was working perfectly the previous night, but the next day when i press the power button, the screen was blank.
When I press the power button, the blue light came on to indicate power, and also the wireless light came on.
The fan also started up, but then it turns off, leaving a blank screen, it seems nothing was booting or working except for those 2 lights. I have tried it with battery in and out and also with AC. But it still doesn't work.
Is it a hardware (like maybe circuit or harddrive) problem? As when I decide to hold down and press on power button when i found out is not working, the screen flickers and the computer shuts down.
I got some important school work, last yr of high school, hopefully someone can help me to get my computer running again, is only 5 months old =[

I will propose you something close to one thing done but slightly different and tried (and worked) many times and with many different laptops having the same issue as yours. You need to Reset any possible electrostatic Charge.
take off the battery and the power cable (this means no contact to any current)
press continuously the power button for 10 seconds.
plug back everything and retry
if it persists you can try it a second time but if after this it's still the same you must call the hotline and repair you unit as long as you are under warranty.

OSX wont boot - grey screen

Hi, I turned on my imac g4 15" 700mhz today to find that it wont boot osx at all!
When i start up the computer, i hear the chime, the light comes on and i hear the fan, hd etc. Then, the grey screen appears with a central finder logo (Which is normal, i think). This is when the computer freezes....HELP....WHAT CAN I DO?
I have tried several things suggested on the support pages such as booting from the cd which wouldn't allow me to do anthing - even re-install osx!

I've encounted the same problem today on my work computer (a G5 Dual 2.5ghz). You'll likely have to do the same thing i did to recover your data:
Remove the drive, mount in another computer (you mentioned that you tried to firewire it to another G4). Instead, actually remove the drive from your machine and install in the other G4. Boot the other G4. Hopefully the drive will mount as a secondary drive. If so, back up your data. If not, run Disk Utility "Repair Disk" on it. You may have to run a third party app like Tech Tool Pro or Disk Warrior. Doing that should fix the drive enough for you to get the data off.
Even if it does, you should probably flatten the drive and do a clean install of the OS. Make sure you run Disk Utility again off the installer disk to insure the drive is competely repaired.
Worst case, you buy a new drive is you are worried about it crashing again. Either way, you should be able to get to your data with a little work.

MediaShield RAID 5 implementation on a P6N SLI Platinum plus boot question

Hi guys
I have a P6N SLI Platinum I am considering using to replace my old decrepit Thecus N4100+ NAS enclosure. My NAS has four 750Gb SATA II drives in RAID 5 giving a total usable amount of about 2Tb.
I have a few questions please:
What is the maximum size RAID that MediaShield will support? I seem to recall reading somewhere it was 1.6Tb? This is a problem with 3Tb storage (1/4 redundancy)!!
What is the performance like running RAID 5? What are the read/write times like?
How much of a performance hit does the PC take running RAID 5 with MediaShield? This box has an E5500 quad core 4*2.8Ghz chip but is running some very hungry software (one build is a DAW based on Cubase and various VSTs; another is running Photoshop CS3) which I can't afford to be tied up sorting out low level RAID stuff if it's going to be a problem. Can I dedicate one of my four cores to the XOR for the RAID 5 freeing up the other three for actual PC stuff?
There is currently one SATA drive already in this box containing the OS. If I use the four SATA ports for the MediaShield RAID and buy a 3rd party PCI/PCIE SATA controller card to plug this current drive into will I be able to set it to boot from it or do I need to migrate the drive to an IDE drive and put it on the IDE chain?

I have a E5500, it's a dual core chip.
Second, media shield sucks. Don't use it unless absolutely necessary.
Buy a pci-e 1x 'firmware' card, I use the RocketRaid 2300 cards, good and cheap. Good, usable RAID5.
They have a performance advantage, a load time advantage, cpu utilization advantage, and most importantly, if you want to migrate your array over to another motherboard, you can. Easily.
If your mobo dies, and you replace it with a more current one, your array is toast with mediashield.\
Boot from a motherboard sata port. Don't boot from a RAID 5 array, trust me.

K9n2 sli platinum wont boot

My computer wont boot. it blue screened mentioning wdf01000.sys and now it will freeze on the splash screen, if I try to view post or go into bios it also freezes. When it freezes in the splash screen the leds say that it is testing RTC. When it freezes in post or to enter bios it says that it is testing base and extended memory. What should i do? let me know if any more information is necessary.

oh and my psu is a 650w xigmatec I tried booting with one stick and it still doesnt work. I guess the only option it to reseat the cpu...

I reseated the cpu, no luck:( the leds where it hang are r/g/g/g when trying to post and g/r/g/r when trying to go into bios.

Looks like i figured it out, I disconnected everything from the mobo and reset the cmos, then booted with one stick of ram and it worked fine, so i booted with 1 ram and hd and it booted into windows, i then flashed the bios and everthing works ok, i am gonna add my video card and other stick of ram and hope everything is happy, i am worried about adding my logitech keyboard and mouse though, but i guess i will just see what happens, thanks for all the advice.
yet another edit: i think i have a stick of ram that is bad, it wont boot with that stick in which was weird because it passed memtest... oh well, i ordered more. (6 gb will be better than 4 anyways)

L512 Wont Boot , Splash Screen then stuck blank screen and Fan in full throttle

I was using the laptop, then it went to suspend mode due normal timeout.
When it came back, the fan start to spin full throttle but it was functionating beside that, normally.
I restarted but then it never boot again.
This is the process where it gets stucked
Boot to Splash Screen, Beep, then a black screen and the fan start to spin at full speed.
(In the post in diagnostic mode, shows no error, pass the memory check, shows the info of the processor )
I tried this:
Retired Hard Disk,
Press 60 Seconds (Reset BIOS) - without battery and power cord
Press 10 times the power button an then 30 seconds -- without battery and power cord
Visually there is no damage in the usb ports, maybe i will need to disassembly to get a better view to check if there is a short somewhere.
With this symptoms , what should else i try. Could be a memory issue?

It happens that if i wait for about 30 secs, then it will boot up, asking a proper boot media.
I was testing it and was workiing fine, except for the Fan working at full speed, Not suspending or shuting down or Hibernate. Only blinking power button led. So a rude disconnection /Battery Extraction needed to acomplish full shutdown.
But Now in the bios diagnostics splash shows
2201: Machine UUID is invalid
The bios shows only 0s in the uuid section.
i was looking for some imformation about this problem, and i found tah can be solved using some kind of floppy for servicing the laptop.
I ve already downloaded a copy, Havent tried yet, But plan to do some test. as soon i can get some spare time.
It appear tha some comand will let me regenerate the UUID, and with some luck, reflashing the bios will solve my problem.
I'll update as any new steps performed

GX600 failure to boot, blank screen.

Hey, my laptop is unable to boot, with just a blank black screen showing. Devices are working such as the wireless adapter, CD drive, just no display. i think this problem could be BIOS related, is there anyway i can manually reset the BIOS as i'm not sure what else do. If anyone else has had the same problem.

1. Unplug the battery and the AC adapter, wait a minute, then plug just the AC mains only.[keep the battery removed]
2. Press and hold the "Hot Start"{See ***} button for 30 seconds.
3. Press the power button.
4. If notebook can boot normally, shut it down then plug the battery back.

T430U not booting - blank screen or never gets passed splash screen

I rarely use this machine but a couple of months ago I went to boot it up and found that I was not able to get past the Windows splash screen. Sometimes I don't even get the Windows splash screen, I just get a black screen. Rarely I get a Windows screen saying that it is diagnosing a system problem or something to that effect and I can even get to where it will allow me to do some Windows diagnostics but nothing ever comes of it and the process is extremely slow.
I called Lenovo, but of course my machine is out of waranty so the tech just gave me a few pointers and said I could send it in to the depo but the potential repair cost could range up to about 75% of what I paid for the machine in the first place. Anyways, after having me try a few things in the BIOS he suggested that it was likely the hard drive. I mistakenly thought from the time that I bought this machine that the OS was installed on the 24 GB SSD so I ordered a new SSD and swapped it in. This made no difference at all as I have now learned that the mSATA SSD drive is merely for cache to speed up booting.
I am afraid that this means the main HDD is at fault, and quite frankly, if I replace it I am going to do a fresh install of Windows 7. But I do have pictures and docs that I would like to salvage if possible. Any ideas on what might be going on here?

I've had pretty good luck with it in getting files off of dying hard drives. Wrap the hard drive in a small towel and put it in the freezer for a half an hour, then take it out and hook it up and run recuva right away. You might get lucky.
It sounds funny but I've had it work more than once.
