P6NGM-FIH vs. N9500GT-MD512Z

Hello,
I own a MSI P6NGM-FIH mainboard since some weeks, without problems. Today I got a brand new MSI N9500GT-MD512Z graphics card. Unfortunatly, the graphics does not function with this board, it boots with the internal mainboard graphic card even if I select PCI-E graphic card in BIOS. The N9500GT is running fine in a MSI P35 Neo2-FR mainboard. I have installed all power connectors to the mainboard, the graphic card itself has no power connector. It also does not show up in Windows XP as a new device. The mainbaords BIOS is the latest version (1.4). How to fix this?

the specs for 3.3V and 5V are 30 A each, so its enough.
Please post the amperage limit on the +12V power rail.  If it has multiple rails, write down the limit for each individual rail and the globlal limit for all rails.  Don't for get to post the brand & model name as well.

The PCI-E version doesn't matter
Please, what is so hard about answering a simple question as brand/model of the other video card you tried.  I am just trying to get as much information as possible.

The PCI-E version doesn't matter, the P35 is also a PCI-E 1.0 board and it works there.
The P35 Chipset is an entirly different chipset, so it may very well be of importance what kinds of video cards you are using.

    Hello !
I’ve got some problems with connecting my Samsung TV LA26B450 with my MSI N9500GT-MD512Z. I tried HDMI cable , I tried HDMI-to-DVI , …  On my TV I only see “ No signal “ , but the videocard does really send something to my TV ( otherwise I get “ Check signal cable “ ). When I check Nvidia Control Panel , there isn’t a second monitor or TV. When I connect a normal monitor ( not a TV ) , it works.
I also tried to use another videocard (NX7100GS-TD128E) with that HDMI-to-DVI converter , and that worked. But I need it for my 9500GT…
I tried it in Windows XP , Vista and Se7en , but with no result.

  • MSI P6NGM-FIH overclocking?

Hi - I'm looking to buy an MSI P6NGM-FIH for my dad.  He has no need for a graphics card.  I already bought an Intel E2160 CPU and I would like to overclock it to 2.4 to 2.8 ghz on stock air.
This board seems limited for voltage to the RAM.  Anyone have any experience overclocking with this board?  My dad just can't swing a more expensive board (w/o on-board video) and then a video card too.
Any suggestions on RAM would be nice too.  Or is this just the wrong board for his needs and my demand to overclock all CPUs at least a little.
    Thanks for your help!
    Mike

  • Porblem with MSI P6NGM-FD during shutdown.

Overall the PC is stable, works well. The problem is when I shutdown the PC, the harddisk turns off, but CPU and Case still runs. Some commented that this is a problem with the ACPI. Will it be solved if I request another motherboard with the same model, or I just need a bios fix from your site?
I need immediate response. I bought this last April 22, 2008. Please send me bios update if this is the only solution. I'm tired of experimenting/installing Windows XP.

    Hello christian1616,
first of all, let's make sure we are talking about the same board. There are three different versions of the P6NGM out there:
    - P6NGM-FIH -> BIOS v1.x   ----> MCP73U [FIH - GB Lan+1394+HDMI+D-Sub]
    - P6NGM-FD -> BIOS v2.x    ----> MCP73PV [FD - GB Lan+DVI+D-Sub]
    - P6NGM-L -> BIOS v3.x      ----> MCP73V [L - 10/100 Lan+D-Sub]
Check your current BIOS Version. It should be displayed during POST on the status screen:
If you cannot get a good look at the BIOS Information because the status screen disappears too fast, disable quick booting in BIOS.
    Some other thoughts:

Note that this is a plain user to user forum.  Nobody here works for MSI.
We can check if there are any newer BIOS Versions for you board but in order to do that, we need to know which BIOS Version you are currently using.

Have you been using an Install-CD that includes SP2?

    ACPI enabled.
Was (IO)APIC enabled as well when you installed XP SP2 and was MPS Table Version set to "1.4"?
Did you clear CMOS with main A/C power cable removed from PSU at any point and load "Optimized Defaults" in BIOS after that?

  • P6NGM-FD Bios Inquiry?

Just have some questions about this particular line of boards. MS-7336 and MS-7336-010 seem to be the same board.
So which bios is the newest version for the P6NGM-FD board? And what is the different between that and the P6NGM?
I have two of these boards. One purchased from Fry's Electronics the other was Purchased from NewEgg.com.
    Frys MB:
Bios Version 1.0 / Updated to Version 1.1
    Problems:
Does not shutdown system from Vista.
Intermitent Problems with the PCI-E Slot, aka if you reset the bios system fails to post at all. No Beeps, it just sits flashing, until you remove the PCI-E card. Once you resetup the bios options and put the card back it works fine.  Which is definitely strange behavior in my opinion.
In addition after the 1.1 Bios Flash there have been several other problems with the External Video Card, including it shutting off during normal operations.
Unrelated problem you can flash this bios on this board with the Bios Update from the P6NGM and it does work. It will no longer post with onboard video but all PCI-E related problems stop.
    NewEgg MB:
    Bios Version 2.0???
This board is running bios version 2.0 and is labeled as a P6NGM-FD with PCB Version 1.0, how is this possible?
So where exactly is the list of Bios Releases for these boards. Since MSI.com.tw has no record of the P6NGM-FD, it is on the MSIComputer site, but not bios information again.  What exactly is the deal with this set of boards, one ships with a 2.0 bios which does not exist evidently.  Any thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated.
    System Configuration System 1:
    Bios: Version 1.1

    PSU 1: Thermaltake TR2 RX (+3.3V 30A, +5V 28A, +12V1 14A, +12V2 15A, -12V 0.3A, +5VSB 3.0A)
    PSU 2: Thermaltake W0099RU 250W (+12V 25A)
OS: Windows Vista Business (Build 6000)
    System 2:

    Bios: 2.0
    MB: MS-7336 (Box says MS-7336-010)

Please don't use MSI Live Update for flashing, especially when the board and BIOS situation is a little more tricky.

After looking at those links and checking the PCB. It is not an P6NGM-FD it is an P6NGM-FIH.
Does it say "FIH" on the board itself?  As far as I can see, there is no difference in PCB Version (all three boards are PCB v1.0 according to the product site).
    Quote
Interesting to note the P6NGM-FIH does accept the P6NGM-FD 2.0 Bios.
Mh, this is generally not a good idea.  The three boards use different variations of the NVidia MCP73 Chipset:
    - P6NGM-FIH -> BIOS v1.x [latest BIOS = v1.1]  ----> MCP73U [FIH - GB Lan+1394+HDMI+D-Sub]
    - P6NGM-FD -> BIOS v2.x [latest BIOS = v2.0]   ----> MCP73PV [FD - GB Lan+DVI+D-Sub]
    - P6NGM-L -> BIOS v3.x [latest BIOS = v3.2]     ----> MCP73V [L - 10/100 Lan+D-Sub]
If you flash the wrong BIOS, you may end up with a dead board or impact its functionality. Although all these BIOS Version are based on each other, they are not identical.
Another thing you should know is, that BIOS v1.10 for the FIH-board is actually newer (12/05/07) than BIOS v2.0 for the FD-board (10/25/07).  I strongly suggest not to use BIOS v2.0 on your FIH-board.
BIOS v1.1 is the latest BIOS for the P6NGM-FIH board. There is no official version that is newer than that.

  • No video in windows on P6ngn-FIH board

I have had a P6ngm-FIH for 6 months working fine with the on board VGA. Now without any hardware changes I get no video. On start up I get the MSI splash screen, although it is smeared in the lower right corner, then the bios about my healthy RAID then black. I have tried reinstalling on a new IDE drive and it shows the windows splash screen then the message setup is restarting then black. I have cleared CMOS and tried a video card - same result. I think the on board video is bad. any suggestions?

I think that the onboard video chip has gone bad. RMA it.

  • N1996

Couldn't find an authoritative link for this one, so just copied and pasted what I found posted on several Google hits I found on this subject.
A lot of people were looking for N1996 board drivers, thinking that N1996 is the model number for their MSI products, such as MSI motherboards, optical drives, VGA cards and etc.
Well, that is not the model number.
It signifies that the product may be legally sold in Australia. Now it requires EMC compliance must be marked with the C-tick logo and ACA supplier code number. Our ACA supplier code is N1996. The supplier is responsible for holding a Compliance Folder that contains compliant test reports and a Declaration of Conformity.
This is more about ACA supplier code. According to ACMA (Australian Communications and Media Authority), Supplier Code Number means the number issued to a person by ACA or ACMA upon application for registration to use the compliance marks (A-Tick or C-Tick).
So basically, ALL MSI mainboards will have this N1996 identifying mark on, signifying that the product can be legally sold in Australia. N1996 is NOT your mainboard model.
To identify your mainboard correctly, see this FAQ:

Well if you provide mainboard serial number we can findout that too,[or current BIOS version installed]
but for drivers only is not need to known. They all are using the same drivers.
/* We can exclude the last 2 marked with red */
So here are drivers for your board:

  • P6NGM no longer boots after clearing CMOS?

Hi all, hope you can help me with this.
I got a new graphics card today (PoV 9800GT), I put it in my P6NGM (not exactly sure which version, uATX, it has VGA and DVI out, but no HDMI) and it didn't work, I would get the regular boot beeps but no signal.  Onboard card was working fine, so I was scratching my head trying to figure it out
Thought I'd clear the CMOS to see if it made a difference, so I turned the PC off, moved the jumper over, left it a little while, turned it back on and... nothing.  Fans kick up but I get no beeps and no signal even on the onboard card now.
Only thing I can think of is when I first bought the mobo I found out it doesn't support 45nm CPUs as standard, so my E8400 wouldn't work.  I borrowed my brother's 65nm c2d, updated the bios and after that my 45nm chip worked fine.  Can clearing the CMOS somehow revert the bios version or has this got nothing to do with it?
    Many thanks.

Really?  How does that work?  I see no supplemental power necessary.  However, nowadays it all needs a 12v rail.  Used to be most of it ran off the 5v rail, but no more.  Can't know that unless you tell us.  Too much guessing here.  Please post your full system specifications.
Yes there's a few models out there now that have this, mostly on 45nm dies.  Zotac do a similar one too.

The Point Of View GeForce 9800 GT Green Edition low power design reduces power consumption by up to 30% compared to a standard GeForce 9800 GT graphics card and no longer requires a supplementary power connector from your PSU, yet still delivers the same great 9800 GT-class performance as previous versions.

    Hi!
I'v got a problem with FIH port on device HP LaserJet M3035 MFP. I can't activate it. HP support in Russia can't give me any answer how to activate it. They said that it allways active. But i read on hp website this:"To test the functionality press the green "Start" button on the digital copy module. If a 3rd party device is connected the the 3rd party device will prompt you for information to allow you to make copies. If a 3rd party device is not connected and the FIH port is turned on the digital copy module control panel will display: Copier Disabled"
    Please help me!

The product you have seems to be a commercial printer. For the best chance at finding a solution I would suggest posting in the forum for HP Business Support!

  • MSI K9AGM2-FIH HD audio

    Hi.
    I built MSI K9AGM2-FIH - motherboard - micro ATX - AMD 690G with an AMD 4000x2CPU 2GB ram and 256mb 7600 pci-e card
The problem that I am having it is the Realteck High Definition.
When I try to install it, it finds the software and tries to run it but the it says
"error occurred during installation of the device. The device's co-installer is invalid"
Does anyone know what this means and how to fix it.?
I have the latest drivers from msi
    Thanks

I have now tried the reference driverQuote from: Hans on 28-August-07, 03:10:13
Did you try Realtek's reference driver? You can find it on their site: Realtek Guide by Backwoodz
but no joy, I did put the motherboard software in first.
Going to uninstall everything and try again.

    Hello,
I have baught the K9AGM2-FIH (MS-7237 Version 1.0) to connect it via HDMI to my Samsug LE37M86BD Both are supporting 1080p.
When I choose at catalyst controlcenter 1920x1080p (progressive mode) the resulition is only 1920x1080i (interlaced mode). I recognize it at the onscreen display of the TV and the flickering when I'm scrolling and on menue soft appearance.
How do I get the progressive mode enabled!
    Thanks
    Oliver
PS: 760p is working at progressive mode.
PS2: I have tried the CCC from the deliverd CD, from the MSI Hompage and the most recent (31.5.07) from ATI. Every time the same result interlaced mode only.

    Wirruna,
It will be jumpy because the resolution is too high. Your using integrated VGA don't forget.
this is cleary a driver issue
did the default windows driver work at 1920x1080?
what about posting a support request at http://ati.com/support
    http://support.ati.com/ics/support/KBList.asp?folderID=10578
AMD 690G series clearly says "Supports a maximum resolution of 2048x1536 @ 32bpp"
meybe try PowerStrip, get that to 1920x1080 @ 50hz

  • Brand New mobo (P6NGM) with IRQ Conflicts, PLEASE help

I've posted multiple times in another well respected PC forum and have not resolved my issue yet. Would GREATLY appreciate assistance.
    Here's my story and attempts:
I'm building a new PC for my parents:
    mobo: MSI P6NGM
cpu: Pentium dual core e2200 (800fsb)
    memory: 2g DDR2
    video: Radeon 9600PRO 256MB PCI-E
I'm having problems in Device Manager.
the modem (Smart Link 5k Voice Modem) and something called the NVIDIA nForce System Management Controller both have a yellow-exclamation point on them and when I looked at their properties\device status says:
    Quote
This device cannot find enough free resources that it can use (code 12).
If you want to use this device, you will need to disable one of the other devices on this system.
I have all of the current drivers and latest BIOS installed (and confirmed).
I believe it's telling me I have an IRQ conflict and when I looked at the Device Manager \ Resources by Type, it tells me that there are 3 devices on IRQ 7, 2 devices on IRQ10 (my PCI-E video card and the 56k modem), and 2 devices on IRQ11 (the NVIDIA nForce PCI System Management).
I did a google search and tried disabling the com ports 1 & 2 (but could only find & disable com port 1)
but this didn't improve the problem.
I also tried un-plugging 2 front USB-2 ports from the mobo.
    no improvement there either.
meanwhile, IRQs 2, 3, 4, 9, 14, and 15 are empty. Is there any way to assign to these?
Please help.  I just built a dual core AMD with another MSI mobo for my daughter last month and didn't have any issues with it.

yes, i tried switching to the other PCI slot (this mobo only has 2). no improvement
Last night, I also tried disconnecting everything (3 USB ports connected to the mobo) and performing a fresh install of XP. I was extremely disappointed that this didn't work either.
I also tried unistalling all of the devices on IRQ10 and rebooting with IRQ10 Reserved (so all of the devices would be assigned to something else). Then I uninstalled the modem again and enabled IRQ10, hoping that everything would have been assigned elsewhere and only the modem would be assigned to IRQ10 this time.
    NO LUCK!
I've NEVER had so much difficulty with IRQs, and only installed 2 devices: the PCI-E video and a PCI modem.

  • K9NGM3-FIH and Wake-On-Lan?

Just updated my K9NGM3-FIH with the 2.7 BIOS and now I can't seem to find any way to get Wake-On-Lan on there, can anyone help me with this?

BIOS revisions seldom give new features, they are bugfixes and give new CPU support.
They do not improve speed or such....unless the speed is caused by a bug somewhere, but then a lot of people reported that.
BIOS is NOT a driver...leave it alone if you have no problems.
Anyway, in order to use WOL, you normally have to set the BIOS setting PME-wakeup and/or PCI-wakeup....as well in the driver that it needs to wakeup on magic-packet.
However, not all boards wakeup from poweroff, try sleep and see what it does.
What are you trying to do anyway? I ask this as wakeup-packets do not pass routers!! You have to be on the same LAN to send it.
