P7N Diamond, Bios P07, QX9650, 8GB PC-8500 problem

Read through main fo the topics in this forum, and tried to identify similar problems, but seem not to be successful.
P7N Diamond board, with the nwest beta P07 bios.
QX9650 quad chip,
and patriot PC2-8500 2GB memory sticks.
2x EVGA 88800GTS-512 (G92) video cards.
So first I flashed the new bios, with only 2 memory sticks in 0, 2 slot, I get  post with just fail safe settings, and SLI ready memory enable, which the vendor claims these stikcs can do.
I boot, but the CPU bounces around between 6x and 8x.
If I add 2 more memory sticks to come to 8GB total, I crash during boot in Vista 64.
So remove 2 sticks again, and try to play with bios settings to get anything stable, but... nothing.
Any ideas, help.
Thanks much.

It's normal for your speeds to fluctuate.  It is speedstep(EIST) in action.  It lowers your cpu speed to save power when it isn't doing anything or a light load.  You can disable it in your BIOS if you want and it should run full speed at all times.
Can you boot into Vista with 1 video card and be stable?
What power supply are you using?  It sounds like you are lacking enough power to run both those cards.  Make and Model number for PSU.
You may also need to manually setup your memory timings.  DDR2 memory has a top limit and it is PC2-6400.  Anything over that limit is overclocking and may need adjusting to get them to run.
Make sure you only have keyboard, mouse, and monitor plugged for testing to help eliminate other issues.
Can you make a signature with all your computer components listed similar to the one I have below.  it will help us help you.  It's sometimes hard to help when you don't have enough information.

Hello, I was wondering what do you guys/girls consider to be the best bios for the p7n diamond edition motherboard? I am overclocking to 3.6ghz on a q6600 kentsfield GO edition, anyway what would be the best for overclocking? thanks!

  • [Solved] Mushkin 996599 (2x2GB XP2-8500) @ MSI P7N Diamond (BIOS 1.0)

    Hi
My problem is that the ram wont run on its rate speed i asked on
the manufacturers forum and the response was that
to ran at rated speed 1066MHz the ram needs more tRFC .
My board runs the ram at tRFC 49 and i don't see any setting in the bios to change that.
Apparently  is  weird since 680i boards would provide 62 of tRFC by default which would be plenty.
    what can i do.
    thanks in advance,

Any high-quality DDR2-800 (CAS=5) is able to run at 933-1066MHz if you increase the voltage to 2.0-2.2V
All you need is a nice heat spreader (otherwise is burning like hell).
    p.s.
    "Mushkin 996599" is not a real DDR2-1066.

  • P7N diamond bios settings listing, saving, and loading

I think I know the answer to both of these  questions, but what the hell maybe the obvious isn't always the case and a yes to either would be really cool so
Is there any way to list my bios settings, you know like a simple cat or tostring() so I can have a cheat sheet
if I save my bios settings in user settings, can I load those into a new version? (I'm thinking they're erased with the new flash, it wouldn't work, or it would flash back

Allow me one last comment in this thread because I think Karlbad did not get the point of my reply:
Creating a tool to readout parts of the CMOS Memory (where the settings are stored) is not a problem.  Here is the data a simple BASIC Program puts outs:
The tricky point is to relate each and every one of these numbers to their particular function within the parameters of my particular BIOS Setup structure.  To translate these numbers back to the actual options in the BIOS Setup mask is a possible task.  However, it takes many, many hours.  This in itself is not a problem either: the crucial point is that this needs to be done for any particular BIOS Version that is looked at.
If this relational problem is considered, it easy to understand that pen&paper and/or a digital camera are better ways to get the job done.  They do not take hours of programming which would need to be repeated for any particular BIOS Version.  And because of that, such tools are a complete waste of time, a complete waste of energy and ambition and also a pointless activity.  And (to take the arguement one step farther) that is precisely why you will not be able to find anything useful using Google.  Useful tools for this kind of task don't exist, because they are pointless.
Now, if that is to hard to understand, I don't know what to say.  Reacting with swearing is probably the only possible response.  However, it does not rule out the fact that your memory in conjunction with a pen and a piece of paper and/or a camera is the best option here.

My 1.2 bios does have an option to save settings
Yes, but not to a file external to the BIOS and even if, you would get a similar sequence of raw data as you can see in the screenshot above.
Your best options under the bottom line:
    - use your memory
    - use pen & paper
    - use a camera
    --> Problem solved.

    Funny, people should read first.
Running them on 1066MHz instead of 800MHz will get you little to none extra speed.
The only thing you'll get is the possibilty of an unstable system and maybe a 2 second win.
Furthermore, it will only be noticeable in benching, in real life you will not know the differ between 800MHz and 1066MHz.
Just my thoughts on the "1066MHz memory issue", which alot of peeps have lately.

  • P7N Diamond / MS-7510 -- Flashed my BIOS & now S.O.L.?

Long, excruciating story put short: I bought an MSI MS-7510 motherboard which is OEM for an Acer Aspire G7700 machine. It's based on the retail MSI P7N Diamond board, but a few minor differences. Anyway, the BIOS that came with it was an Acer BIOS, as reported by the BIOS itself, but an MSI Live Update utility reported that the BIOS in there was the 1.4 (an MSI P7N Diamond BIOS). Not knowing which was actually in there, I tried to install a more current Acer BIOS for that board. The Acer flash utility informed me that my board ID was incorrect, so I went on to flash using the MSI P7N Diamond BIOS, v1.4. After successfully flashing via DOS, the computer does not post, it doesn't do anything when I start it. The hard drives, MB, CD-ROMs, PSU, and case fans all get power, but my monitor gets no feed from the video card, nothing. It seems to me that I put the wrong BIOS in there. Am I S.O.L.? Is there any way to flash the BIOS at this point? I'm guessing I can't do anything via USB stick or CD-ROM, as without a proper BIOS, the computer doesn't know what to look for, etc. Is there a hard modification I can do for this board? Jumper pins to reset the BIOS? Anything?    I'm stuck here and could really use help!

Sorry to say, but we don't support OEM products on this forum. You need to contact Acer in regards to your problem.

  • Troubles hitting 3.0ghz on Q6600 and P7N Diamond

    Hi all,
I'm kinda new to the whole over clocking thing but after reading a few posts it looks like my system should be able to hit 3.0ghz on the Q6600 G0 without much problem. The only problem is when I disable the normal over clocking stuff and set my FSB to 1333 with my voltages up a bit my system won't post. Below are my specs:
    MSI P7N diamond Bios V1.2
    Q6600 Kentsfield G0 @ 2.40Ghz with a default voltage of 1.280V
    8GB (4 sticks) of OCZ Fatal1ty Edition DDR2 1006 (PC2 8500) - OCZ2F10664GK
    Nvidia 260 GTX.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Seeing is believing! Since you have the most recent official bios release, within the forum, some posts may exist addressing some beta releases that might increase the memory parameters. Not sure if the P07 performance bios may help, but it also may be worth looking into. You have a lot of RAM. The mem. controller is probably pretty stressed as well when all the slots are full, & may need a boost in V's. Have you tried testing with just 1 stick of RAM in slot #1?
Edit: Almost forgot, if you do decide to flash your bios, make sure all the settings are returned to a stable stock, & use the forum USB Flash Tool.

  • P7N Diamond Blue Screen Issues

Ok first off specs... Nothing is overclocked--
Motherboard: P7N Diamond Bios V. 1.3 (Flashed and reinstalled after CMOS clear)
    Power Supply: Ultra 1000W Model: ULT-HE1000X  (+5V [28A]; +3.3V [24V]; +12V [70A]; -12V [0.8A]; +5VSB [3A])  All tested and working well with in normal specs
    CPU: Intel Q9550
RAM: 4 x 1GB 1066 PC2-8500 Kingston HyperX Ram (pulled each one and tested)
Hard Drive: Seagate 500GB SATA (Tested-No issues)
Video Card: XFX 9800 GT, 512MB GPU (Brand new..Replaced 8800 GT)
Operating System: Windows Vista Ultimate 64Bit. (Reloaded)
Worked fine for approximately 9 months.  Now however I am getting recurrent Blue Screens, even after testing each piece and following the instructions given on other threads in this forum.  Please advise.

To reach stability (still testing as I don't quite trust it yet but it looks promising)
**This is after testing PSU, And Hard drives for failure**
1 Replaced the Video Card (It was artifacting as the blue screens started, but they continued after replacement)
2 Repair installed OS to make sure it was not software related
    2 Blew out dust
    3 Updated Bios
4 Pulled CMOS battery and replaced it
5 Pulled all but 1 stick of RAM (Tested each stick separately to make sure they were still good) set to auto settings in bios
7 Reinstalled OS to Fresh drive
8 Installed Newest drivers and updates
9 Reinstalled the other 3 GB of RAM
everything appears stable now....but if something happens I will be sure to let you know

  • Re: P7N Diamond standby problems

I too have a very similar problem and it's driving me nuts! Although I've been all over this site reading similar posts (and all over the web), I see no-one offering any solution.  :(
Like MrMicrochip, my system goes happily into S3 standby mode but when when trying to resume (keyboard or power button), it powers on briefly with all fans running and 5 seconds later just dies. Nothing posts on the screen and the only way to get the machine running is to power the whole thing off and re-boot as normal. Reset or the power button has no effect.
I've tried all of the applicable BIOS settings with exactly the same results.
I've updated everything I can think of to the latest version - BIOS, Win XP service pack 3, NVIDA drivers (180.48), and tried various settings in Windows.
    My System
MSI P7N Diamond (BIOS 1.2 - just upgraded from 1.1)
    Intel Core 2 Duo E8500
    XFX GeForce 9800GTX
    4Gig Crucial Memory 1066MHz/PC2-8500
3 x 500GB Seagate Baracuda SATA drives running RAID 5
    Coolermaster RealPower 1000W
Windows XP - tried both on SP2 and SP3
If anyone can help out I'd be very grateful. S3 standby will be really, really helpful with the way I work.
    Thanks

cheers,  i think we got it,  the malfunction is due to USB keyboard and the USB terminals and nothing else,, generally even your mob supports usb keyboard but believe me a lot of guys have found that it does not function fully and usb keyboard fail in many ways, and if you look most manufacturers still Kipp ps2 keyboard terminal even so they are suppose to be out of date but because they have proved to be more reliable than usb keyboard. so your short solution is try ps2 keyboard (i myself do not use usb for this reason) but having looked at your PC config, you have three hdd 500gb and 4 memory sticks, and most likely dvdrom, floppy,..etc. and 1kw psu . but a Lot of mob power distribution is poorly designed and also psu power distribution is poor too,  a lot of power has been devoted to hdd and dvd etc and mob ignored then put  these two together we may end up in a situation like this.
    Solutions:
1-assuming you got the latest bios ,
2- assuming  the terminal molex power supply connector to your CPU is 8 then it must be 8 and not 4, if your psu has only 4 then you must use another molex 4 pin connector
    A-use ps2 keyboard
B-use usb keyboard but try to remove one or two hdd and see if stand by functions or not (most likely these are the culprits, they draw too much power from psu)
C-use PCI usb card and then connect your usb keyboard to the pci usb card. there is more power in terms of voltage and current stability in pci terminals than anywhere else.
D-update the driver for your usb keyboard using device manager
and the final solution which might hurt your pride send the mob back to msi and ask for a refund

     Hi everyone,
I've had my board up and running for around a week now and up until Saturday it had given me only a few minor problems, the first of which was a BSOD when trying to install the Jmicron drivers and the driver s for my X-FI (they do not seem to like each other). I eventually uninstalled the Jmicron  drivers and disabled the controller in bios which seemed to do the trick.
For a while after that everything seemed fine got my various games installed all of which seemed to play fine ( TF2, HLF2 (EP 1 & 2), Stalker, X3). Then on  Saturday I decided to install the Crysis demo and for a short time all was well, then my system just rebooted, no BSOD no error just restarted to windows this happened again and again. I also bought COD4 and the same happens with as well never in the same place just random. It also rebooted once during a norton virus scan when tried to enter My Computer
My system is running cool enough I think I have 1 105CFM 120mm intake fan, 1 side intake fan 80mm and 2 55CFM 80 mm exhaust fans the air is only ever slightly warm and that was after playing HL2 EP2 for 2/3 hours.
I am at the moment running prime 95 and so far after 3hours all is well, I am also running X3 demo (@ max settings 4xaa 16xaf)in a continuous loop in the background as well to try and trip my system up but at the moment no reboot.
     Any Ideas?

    Give this a try.
    FSB 1333
DRAM (800 is the best I can get, you might work at 1066)
    CPU RATIO 9
    DRAM VOLTAGE (your rated spec)
    CPU VOLTAGE 0.08750
NB VOLTAGE ONE TICK UNDER 1.400
    SB VOLTAGE 1.525
    CPU GTL 20
    NB GTL 20
    FSB TERM VOLTAGE 50
    D.O.T / EIST/ SLI Mem = DISABLED
    Spread Spectrum = DISABLED
You may be one of the ones like me and a few others that can only run this board stable with overclocking the cpu to 3ghz. That should be easy to do even on air, but keep an eye on it. I was unable to get viper, g.skill or patriot memory to run at 1066 with my board, at least so far, so you may have better luck than I. Except for getting your memory to work at 1066, I can almost promise that this will work for you. I also had the problem with the jmicron drivers and do not use them now.
Word of warning, too much playing around with this can lead to OS corruption, so be easy.

with the default vcore (1.1) the system boot and load win64 at 1550 fsb and multipler by 9.5x; if I try fsb 1600 or 1604 (for the supposed fsb hole) the system does not boot. I've tried to up the vcore and the 8x multipler with the same result.
I don't think that is a cpu limit (all e8500 go to 4 ghz), but my inesperience to set up the parameters on the "cell menu", like all voltage parameters.
    Thanks a lot

What were your voltages? You're going to need a lot of nb volts with all that ram in there. The only thing I have is some screens from e8400 bench runs. I'll put them here so you can look. These were with beta bios 1.21. I was pushing voltages quite hard for this although I can't remember the exact numbers. That mobo doesn't have that cpu now. I'm running a q6600 in the P7N diamond now. I may have some photos of those bios settings though stored on my drives, I'll try and look tomorrow.

  • P7N Diamond and C2D E8400

I'm trying to find out what is the best and most stable BOIS to use with a E8400 other then MSI recommend 1.2 BIOS. Because when my system POST it stops a NVRAM testing.... and just hangs there. I would like to leave my BIOS setting to default and not have to manually changes setting unless I am overclocking my system.

BTW, an MSI tech-rep I spoke to today said that ACPI was not enabled in BIOS before installing Vista, therefore Vista does not recognize the system as being ACPI compliant. He suggested I re-install OS after first enabling ACPI in BIOS. What do you think, make sense?

first of all sorry for my bad english. I have an Acer G7700 Predator after a Board mailfunction i bought a "real" P7N Diamond. After assembly i got some problems. The system bacame instable. I have an qy9650 Extreme with 4 x 2 GB Kingston KHX8500D2t1. When i set all Bios options in cell menue on AUTO the regonize the RAM as 800 MHZ Ram with 400 Mhz DRAM Frequency. This seems to be the right default settings. In the hardware maintaince manual of Acer the FSB is set to 1333 Mhz with a DRAM Frequency of 400 MHZ. With this setting my system becames extreme instable. So i set the DRAM Frquency to 533. The System runs over 2 hours stable with rigth mark memory tester. After that i set the DRAM Frequence to 333 MHZ to get an 1:1 DRAM FSB ratio. Systems runs stable. Now i wonder how i get the RAM work into 400 MHZ Mode ? Mabye i need some instruction to understand the dependency between FSB-DRAM.

Is it important to have an FSB:DRAM Ratio of 1:1 ?
    No, not at all.

How much  difference is between 667 and 800 Mhz ?
DDR2-800 will, of course, be faster.  Only a couple of percent, but definately noticeable in benchmarks.
DDR2-800 is usually not a problem.  However, the fact that your are using four modules puts a lot of stress on the memory controller and on the memory bus in general.  That is why it sometimes takes slight voltage bump to get things stable.  As I said earlier, 1.95V should be enough.  Perhaps 1.9V already is.
