P7n diamond does not accept nvidia display drivers

Hi
Recently assembled a machine on p7ndiamond and loaded with windows xp pro 32 bit,zotac 8800gt 512mb ddr3 graphic card.
My problem is whenever I try to install the nvidia display driver for windows xp..the installation starts fine but just after a few moments the screen blacks out and cursor begins to blink in the top left corner.Thereafter nothing happens...does not accept any commands and stay as it is.
Ultimately I have to reboot.
Any kindly soul out there may please help me out from this woe.
My configurations are-
msi p7n diamond motherboard
xms corsair ram 2x1 gb 800mhz
intel q6600 processor
zotac 8800 gt graphic card,512mb ddr3.
coolermaster 800w smps.

Boot to "Safe Mode", then use Driver Sweeper to get rid of current VGA drivers ==> http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=1655
Once done, reboot to normal mode and install 177.92 Release Date:    August 26, 2008
