P7N Diamond not booting

My system has stopped booting or is only partly booting. It use to flash the lights on the keyboard, light up the green light by the power switch on the case and then the monitor would come out of standby and show the BIOS screen. While it was doing this the fans, pump, and drives would also start.  Now it's just the fans, pump, and drives that are powered on. All of the "on board" lights are also lit up. I've removed all USB and audio connectors, unpluged the floppy drive and card reader and it didn't help.
It's about a year old, but the last month it started not booting and I would power it off and back on and it would work. Now that doesn't work any more.

I'm convinced now, that it's the motherboard. I have it out on the table and have replaced the CPU, PSU, memory, and vid card with ones I know work. It did start once and I got it to go into BIOS set up,but I couldn't get the time set because the clock was in overdrive. Hours were clicking off as fast as minuets.  In the short time I messed with it, the date/time had advanced from noon on Mar.19Th to 6AM, Mar.20. I loaded the fail safe option, rebooted and it never came back on, just the same old fans and leds come on but no video. I also tried an old (16mb) PCI video card and that didn't work either. The leds by the PCI slots do light up showing that they are functioning.
So unless someone knows some abra cadabra words to fix it, I'll consider it dead.
Motherboards don't normally appear dead - boot - then die again.
Since you said:

I think it has gotten worse, now the case switch and "on Board" button will only start it once in awhile.
It makes me think the PSU has gone faulty.

  • P7N does NOT BOOT solution

For a day now my computer would not boot.  The fans would go one and everything would get power. I tested every component in my computer for a while now and I have finally figured out what was wrong with my computer. I knew it had to be the motherboard or cpu cause i had tested everything else with other components.  Anyway, I googled this issue and somebody said to use the VGA to DIV adapter to fix this...I know what you are thinking, "That WILL NOT WORK!!" Well it did. so now whenever i turn on my computer I have to plug in my VGA to boot then I just switch to my DVI after and it works fine.

I had the same problem with my P7N Diamond not booting all the time. I would have to reset 5 or 6 times before it would boot. When I pulled the 2 MSI 8800 GTX video cards and switch slots, the problem went away. When I switched them back, I got the boot failure problem back. I don't know what would cause it, but it was a cheap fix.

  • MSI K8N Diamond not booting

I have a slight problem with MSI K8N Diamond. It is not booting and according to the manual d-bracket says memory error.
    My system:
    Motherboard: MSI K8N Diamond
    CPU: AMD Athlon64 3000+ Winchester (socket 939)
    Memory: 2x Corsair ValueSelect 512M
Graphics card: PNY GeForce 6600GT 128M
Hard disk: Western Digital Caviar 200GB IDE
    Power supply: Antec SmartPower 350W
    PSU's Max DC Outputs:
    +5V: 35A
    +12V: 21A
    +3.3V: 28A
    -5V: 0.5A
    -12V: 0.8A
    +5VSB: 2.0A
When I got motherboard, I plugged everything in and it seemed to work. I got to sleep and on the morning the motherboard didn't boot up anymore. D-Bracket just says memory error and nothing comes to screen. Because of that I sent the first motherboard for RMA (did cost me 27 euros). I got new motherboard today, but I have the exactly same problem. System not booting up because of memory error.

    ... or my processor's pci-express is broken....
    You probably mean Hyper-Transport....
As for the PSU, you can try with the PSU of your friend to test the MOBO.
But do the following, take the MOBO out of the case and test it outside on top of a pile of newspapers, then put in the CPU+HSF, memory 1 stick in slot 1, gfx, and your friend's PSU, press the CMOS reset button, connect the AC plug to the PSU and start it. Test it like this...and post back with results...
    Be well....

  • P7N Diamond first boot problems!

    Hey guys
I have just installed my new MSI P7N Diamond mobo into my computer, but the thing won't boot !
All the stuff i had in my system worked fine with the old mobo, so it should also run fine here, but sadly it doesn't :/
    Here's the specs:
    E8500
    MSI P7N Diamond
    2x2 gb Mushkin Redline
    320Gb seagate HDD
    2x8800GT
I have tried to reset the CMOS and taking the batterie out, no succes..
    Please help !
    /Razbojnik
    PS. Merry Christmas ^^

Well, I have sent my GFX to RMA, I think that was the problem.
I tried to use the second gfx as my primary card, but it wouldn't boot, so I thought it was broke..
The strange thing was that it worked fine with my old motherboard (Asus P5N32-E SLI)..
Still haven't got any info on my RMA status, but I believe I'll have it back again in a week or two..
While I'm writing here, I should point out, or acctually ask a question.. I had some system freezes and some BSOD (about 5 times in the last month).. I think the BSOD thing is cleared and that it was a Vista thing, but my system stille freezes sometimes when I watch movies, or play games on my com.. Still haven't found the cause  :/

  • P7N2 DIAMOND NOT BOOTING/STARTING

Hello all, i have the following system P7N2 Diamond Motherboard, Intel Q9650 Processor, Kingston Hynix 2GB 1600MHZ RAM, Nvidia 8600GTS Graphics Card. First i put it all together and started it up, boot screen came up 'press <DEL> to enter setup' 'Press <TAB> to blah blah. It wouldnt go past that point. It also beeped (1 LONG 2 SHORT). My first problem was my keyboard wouldnt work. So i checked that is was plugged in. It was. So after a min it turned itself off. I tried again and it did the same. On the 3rd attempt nothing on the screen showed up at all, nothing beeped, Nothing. I checked everything out that it was seated properly and even reseated it all. I have tried with minimal components. I have also tried another graphics card. Still Nothing. When i turn it on the cpu fan goes. I have the 24pin power in and also i am only using the 4 pin cpu power cable. MSI say this is ok? The power supply is an OCZ Coolermaster 400W. There are 3 lights on the Motherboard where the power and reset button are. They light up as follows. Top (RED) Middle (Blue) Bottom (RED). When it is turned off the bottom light stays (RED). Does the mean anything. I have tried to explain as best as i can. Any Help would be great, Thanks.
    Gary

Okay.  Your BIOS Version is v1.0 then and this version does not officially support your processor.
You can check the CPU Support list here:
    http://eu.msi.com/index.php?func=prodcpu2&prod_no=1445&maincat_no=1&orderby=cpu_name%20ASC#menu
Install a processor supported by BIOS v1.0 and see if the system starts up properly.  If it does, update the BIOS and test that Q9650 again.

  • Can't boot from USB on P7N Diamond

I have BIOS Ver. 1.3 installed on my P7N Diamond board. I used the flashing utility from MSI to install it. Now, to install Ver 1.4, I am using the Forum Flasher. My board will not recognize the USB drive in the F11 Boot Menu or in the BIOS boot selection option. It does show up as USB storage after the memory check along with a USB mouse.I made sure that all USB options in the BIOS were set. I let the Forum Flasher fix my drives to make sure that was done right. The last stick I tried was brand new, never used.
I am running RAID 0+1 on SATA 1 thu 4, SATA 5 + 6 are DVD drives, nothing on the 2 eSATA ports.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

The only time the USB storage appears is during POST. In the BIOS the 4 hard drives used for the RAID are listed, the 2 DVD drives are listed, but no USB storage. In the F11 boot selection it offers the 1st floppy, NVRAID and the 2 DVD drives. The same are offered the boot sequence section of the BIOS options.

  • P7N Diamond won't boot with new Intel Q9400

    Hi
I recently bought a new Intel Q9400 CPU to replace my old Q9450 that was broken and causing the computer to freeze. I tried to install the new Q9400 CPU and the computer would not boot. The red LED on the mobo was on. When I pressed the on button the fans span for about half a second but then stopped and the machine shut down. I have replaced it with a firend's E8400 and it boots fine again.
Before I installed the Q9400 I flashed the BIOS to v1.4 so I was confident that it would work but it didn't. After it didn't work I cleared the CMOS and it still didn't work.
Is there a compatibility issue with P7N Diamond and this CPU? My mobo is revision 1.0, does this make a difference? If not then I suppose the CPU must have been DOA and I'll need to RMA it.
    Thanks,
    Jim

Very unusual for a CPU to become "broken"--more likely the PC developed another problem? I'd test the 9450 on another system too if I were you.

  • P7N Diamond will not POST

    Hi everyone.
This is my first build. The board powered up just fine, but would not POST. No beeps, nothing. I tried stripping down the system, part by part, until I was down to just one stick of RAM & the CPU - no luck. I've been doing some extensive researching, and I've tried everything I can think of.
    Here's the build:
OCZ PSU - Game Xtreme series 700 W
    P7N Diamond
Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 Kentsfield 2.4GHz (retail box)
    Corsair DOMINATOR (2 X 2GB) DDR2 1066
    MSI NVIDIA GeForce 8600GT, 256 DDR3
Seagate Barracuda SATA drive, 250 GB
    Sony IDE combo optical drive
I RMAed the board & processor (replacement)
I'm quite frustrated and disappointed at this point.  Any tips/tricks or advice would be welcome!

Did you try a clear CMOS? Different memory? My Dominators wouldn't boot without 2.00v VDIMM.
Yes, I tried clearing CMOS. I WOULD'VE tried different memory, but I don't have any compatible sticks around. But, I tried removing all the ram, thinking that if that Dominators were causing the problem, the board would start to post, and then beep at me when it couldn't find any RAM - no results. :-(

  • P7N Diamond 1066mhz Reaper boot issue

I have had this machine for a year, originally I had 4 sticks of 800mhz OCZ ram in it, but somehow 2 of the sticks developed errors (1 stick from each batch of 2) and they were returned, I ended up replacing them with 2x2gb OCZ reaper HPC sticks which i have been running at 800mhz (i know thats their ACTUAL speed).
Problem is, they are rated to 1066mhz and its always been niggling at me to run them as they should.
I currently have them set at 1066mhz, 2.1V, 5-5-5-15 and they seem pretty stable, the problem is that the machine wont boot from cold like this, i can sit here all day and use it, but if i shut it down then hit the power button the lights come on for a split second and then nothing. The only way to get it to boot is to reach round and turn the PSU off for 5 seconds then turn it on and it will boot first time. This as you can guess is a real pain in the ass.
If i drop them down to 800mhz it boots fine with no issues, but I would really like to figure out why it refuses to boot like this.
Currently most settings in the cell menu are on auto, i stuck the NB up to 1.4V to see if that would help but it did nothing and the issue remains, any help would be appreciated or I may have to drop the speed down again just to save my back.
Edit: forgot to say im running beta bios 1.2B1

Ok..  I have the exact same ram, and I'll tell you what I did..  First off, the P7N Diamond (and I'm assuming the Platinum as well) doesn't give you an option to change tRFC in the cell menu.  These sticks need the tRFC to be set to 54.  Depending on when you bought your RAM (I bought mine May 08), the sticks may or may not have this change implemented as to whether they FORCE tRFC to 54 clocks.  If yours are a bit older, chances are that they do not have this fix implemented.  I have been assured by OCZ that all NEW 1066 Reaper RAM now has the SPD adjusted to force tRFC to 54 clocks.
If you think you have an older set of RAM, check out this link - http://www.ocztechnologyforum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=36341
Instructions are posted there on how to flash the SPD of your Ram to force tRFC to 54 clocks.
Originally, I couldn't understand why I couldn't get my RAM up to its rated speed.  I knew that I would technically be overclocking to get up to 1066 from 800mhz, but every time I changed the speed in the Cell menu I would either get a hard lock or BSOD.  Once I flashed the SPD, everything now works tickety-boo - no problems whatsoever.  Give it a shot..
Also, just a quick note - you probably won't need to give your ram as much juice after you've flashed the SPD..  I know that they're rated up to 2.1 or 2.2v, but chances are at 1066 with 5-5-5-15, you can get away with 1.9-2.0v
Dude Can u tell me the exact settings u have done in BIOS . And I dont think that my system is really stable with these settings . And what does SPD means ? I am really noob in Overclocking .

  • P7N Diamond, unable to access RAID Config during Boot

I've got a P7N Diamond motherboard, with 6 disks attached, one SSD (boot) and I recently installed 5 1.5TB disks as well. These I would like to run in RAID 5 mode.  I've enabled RAID for those channels in the BIOS, but I am unable to access the RAID config that's supposed to be available during bootup.  The system also has an ADAPTEC RAID 1430SA ROHS SINGLE PCI-E LP 4-PORT controller with two disks attached, could this be messing things up?  (I DO get an option to access this RAID config, but it fails claiming too little free memory (!) (It's a system with 4GB installed))   In Windows 7, the 5 disks shows up in the NV Raid as "Free disks", but I'm not able to do anything with them except setting SMART info.  In the Windows Disk management they don't show up at all.
So, anyone got any ideas on how to access the raid config (F10) during boot?
    All suggestions appreciated
    Thanks,
      Zem

The error regarding "too little free memory" isn't related to system RAM but to bios ROM address space.  As already stated, the Adaptec card is causing the conflict with the NV RAID controller bios.  This is actually a very common issue when trying to run multiple disk controllers in a single system and isn't any fault of the mobo.  There's only so much addressable space for BIOS to reside in.
You may be able to free up some address space by disabling the LAN Option (boot) ROM in CMOS and setting the JMicron controller to IDE instead of RAID.  Even better would be to disable the JMicron controller entirely.
If, after doing so, the Adaptec controller is still not able to work with the NV controller in RAID mode, then I'm afraid you're out of luck.

Just got a machine from a company in California. Had some initial problems and returned it on RMA. Got a new MB, RAM and one new graphics Card.
Now that I have it back I am having trouble fully booting. Every once in a while, I am able to get through the boot sequence and start running games only to have the machine freeze then blue screen. After that cycle I am back to the beginning, not being able to boot into vista.
As far as the beep codes, I get two separate short beeps, then two rapid beeps (back to back) then a fourth beep.
RAM is seated in slots 1 and 3
The 2 graphics cards are seated as follows:
One card is in the first blue PCIE slot
2nd card is in the (only) white PCIE slot (presumably so that I can seat the included X-FI Xtreme sound card into the only PCI slot)
    Recommendations?

Quote from: Oglow on 12-September-08, 03:07:50
As far as the sound card goes, I assumed it was PCI due to the length of the tab that goes into the mobo. It is the same one that everyone else received with the board, though (X-FI Xtreme). Can I really insert this into a PCI-E slot when the tab on the sound card is MUCH shorter? I never would have considered that...
Whoa! No, of course not. Sorry, better forget what I said in that case. The difference between a PCI and PCIe 1x connector should be really, really obvious, so you'll have done it right. I was just confused, as I did get the PCIe version with that board (there are both a PCI and a PCIe version of the card, though).
Quote from: Oglow on 12-September-08, 03:07:50
I will have to get into BIOS and verify the voltge to my RAM. I am not a modder and have never OCed anything therefore I don't typically screw around with BIOS settings too much.
If you haven't changed the defaults, the RAM should run at 800 MHz, in which case it doesn't really need the higher voltage, so that's okay then.
Oh, and I've never noticed the USB-beep relation, but then I don't have a lot of USB devices. :p
Anyway, keep us posted, and good luck

Wow.  You either build lots of systems, or your expectations are pretty low.  'A fact of system building' should only apply to large OEMs not the home builder doing a like a build a year.  That would be a pretty high rate of failure that any manufacturer should be embarrassed by.
I'm curious as an employee of Intel how many folks have had issues with Intel branded boards?  I know that we tend to build systems that are less enthusiast-friendly than other manufacturers, but if it's enthusiast-friendly and doesn't work what good is it?
I have built loads of systems and I still do. I've had my share of doa hardware. It's not an everyday occurance but it happens. A build a year? I've built 8 so far this year and of those I've had one no post mobo (XFX 790i), a bad ram kit, 1 vid card with memory artifacting, a Q9550 (oem) that died a sudden death during testing, and a failed psu. That last item was my fault for skimping. I just know it happens and I don't waste time stressing about it, I rma and get on with it. I like happy endings so I don't sit in the problem, I resolve it. How many folks have had issues with intel branded boards? I'm not sure where you're going with this but I'm guessing intel's numbers aren't much different than MSI's or anyone else's when it comes to percentages. Like any other manufacturing process, it's a given that there will be faulty parts shipped.

  • P7N Diamond has to boot 3 times before OS Starts

When my computer boots, it goes through the main screen showing what is installed. The screen goes black and then 5 seconds later the computer boots again.
It then goes into the “Sorry Windows didn’t start correctly screen”, with the options, start normally etc. When you select normal, the computer reboots, and goes back into the same screen. Select normal/last best configuaration and Vista boots as normal.
It is very annoying and takes 2 minutes to get into the OS because of all this messing about.
I have read that there may be a problem with the Nvidia drivers for the SATA with optical drives that may cause problems. Does anyone know if this is the case as it is driving me mad?
I know there is a problem with these drivers and some SATA optical drives in XP, as this is causing BSOD.  I was wondering if this is the same for VISTA?
Any help would be great thanks.

    Thanks for the info
I have removed some of the Nvidia drivers for my SATA and let Windows install generic drivers for my SATA optical drives and so far so good.
I am not too impressed the Nvidia drivers could be the problem I am having.
Regarding my memory timings, I have them set at default as I cannot work out what are the best settings to get my memory working at 1066. No matter what I try to get the memory to work at 1066 (which the MB supports) it will not boot. So at the moment it is set at 800 and I am leaving it at that, unless anyone has the setting for my memory to run at 1066 on my MB??
    Cheers
