P7N Diamond, unable to access RAID Config during Boot

I've got a P7N Diamond motherboard, with 6 disks attached, one SSD (boot) and I recently installed 5 1.5TB disks as well. These I would like to run in RAID 5 mode.  I've enabled RAID for those channels in the BIOS, but I am unable to access the RAID config that's supposed to be available during bootup.  The system also has an ADAPTEC RAID 1430SA ROHS SINGLE PCI-E LP 4-PORT controller with two disks attached, could this be messing things up?  (I DO get an option to access this RAID config, but it fails claiming too little free memory (!) (It's a system with 4GB installed))   In Windows 7, the 5 disks shows up in the NV Raid as "Free disks", but I'm not able to do anything with them except setting SMART info.  In the Windows Disk management they don't show up at all.
So, anyone got any ideas on how to access the raid config (F10) during boot?
All suggestions appreciated
Thanks,
  Zem

The error regarding "too little free memory" isn't related to system RAM but to bios ROM address space.  As already stated, the Adaptec card is causing the conflict with the NV RAID controller bios.  This is actually a very common issue when trying to run multiple disk controllers in a single system and isn't any fault of the mobo.  There's only so much addressable space for BIOS to reside in.
You may be able to free up some address space by disabling the LAN Option (boot) ROM in CMOS and setting the JMicron controller to IDE instead of RAID.  Even better would be to disable the JMicron controller entirely.
If, after doing so, the Adaptec controller is still not able to work with the NV controller in RAID mode, then I'm afraid you're out of luck.

    wrt54g ver5

can access the internet fine. it seems to be a memory corruption problem
i has been doing more and more times

Since the router works, it is doubtful (but still possible) that the firmware is corrupted.  More likely there is another explanation for your problem.  Here are my tips for viewing your router's web pages:
You do not need an Internet connection. The router's "web pages" are built into the router.
Use Internet Explorer, it usually works.
    JavaScript must be enabled.
Use a computer that is wired to the router.
In the non-working computer, temporarily turn off your software firewall.
Point your browser to 192.168.1.1 , then login to your router. Your user name should be left blank. Your password is "admin" (with no quotes), unless you changed it.
If you are using Zone Alarm, right click on the ZA icon in the system tray (lower right corner of screen) and then click "Shutdown ZoneAlarm", and see if this fixes your problem. If this does not work, try the following with Zone Alarm: Open the ZAISS control center, go to Privacy, then temporarily turn off Ad Blocking and Cookie Control, and see if that fixes your problem.
Some Zone Alarm users have reported that adding 192.168.1.1 to their list of "trusted" addresses fixed the problem. This trick might also work with other firewalls.
If you are using Noton Internet Security with the Add-on Pack, be sure to turn off the Pop-up Blocker, and the Ad blocker. Some users have reported that they needed to uninstall the entire Norton Add-on Pack.
If you cannot get anything at 192.168.1.1 then perhaps this is not your router's address. Go to "Start" > All Programs > Accessories > Command Prompt.
A black DOS box will appear. Type in "ipconfig" (with no quotes), then hit the Enter key. Look at the "Default Gateway". Is it 192.168.1.1 ? Point your browser to the "Default Gateway", then login to your router.
If the above fails, disconnect your modem from the router, and try again. If this corrects your problem, then most likely you have a "modem-router" rather than an ordinary modem. Report back with this problem, and also state the make and exact model number of your modem (not the router).
If all of the above fails, power down your entire system, unplug it from the wall, wait one minute, then power up and try again.
If all of the above tips fail, then reset the router to factory defaults: Power down the router and disconnect all wires from it. Wait one minute. Power up the router, allow it to fully boot (1-2 minutes), then press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds, then release the button and allow the router to reset and reboot ( 2-3 minutes). Power down router. Wait one minute. Connect one computer, by wire, to a LAN port on the router. Boot up system. It should work.
If you still have trouble, then you need to download and install (or re-install) the latest firmware for your router. After the firmware upgrade, you must reset the router to factory defaults, then setup the router again from scratch. If you saved a router configuration file, DO NOT use it.

I have a Razor Copperhead mouse, which I keep as a backup for when my rechargeable wireless mouse decides it needs recharging (). It is usually tucked away under my desk, connected to a front panel USB port, but still I need to unplug it and reconnect it before I can use it. Same problem as you, but different mainboard and mouse, but its never bothered me as its not my main mouse...

There are two responses to your previous post.  See your previous thread.
    One response is as follows:
No options for RAID in the BIOS. RAID is managed via external BIOS; in my case, you access this by hitting CONTROL-F on startup. This works for the promise BIOS, but you also have the option of using the ICHR5 and it will have a different BIOS. See the supplementary manuals which came with the computer.
Also, in the integrated peripherals section of the BIOS, enable the SATA. I suspect you have to enable the SATA drives for both the Promise Controller and the ICHR5. Note also if you ever plan to boot off the RAID drive, you'll have to set this up in the "Advanced BIOS Features" section of the BIOS.
    Good luck.
    Scott
Also, please ensure the RAID drivers are installed!  These come on one of your system disks with the motherboard.  These install separate BIOS' configuration utilities which manage the RAID options.

  • P7N Diamond - JMicron JMB363 RAID w/PATA

So I've upgraded from 975XPUE (RIP)to P7N Diamond and have WinXP running somewhat stable.  Amazingly, this is using prev OS install from 975X mobo.  Somehow I've managed to get new chipset drivers installed and all hardware recognized.  I'll probably do a clean install down the road but would like to pick up a new drive first to keep old drive for backup.
Anyhoo, I'm having issues getting the JMicron controller to configure my 2 x IDE drives into a RAID 0 array.  P7N Diamond is using JMB363 controller whereas 975X had the older JMB361.  And the older mobo/JMicron chipset was able to run PATA drives in RAID 0 just fine.
But now I'm stuck.  This is partly my fault.  When I originally swapped mobos and booted the system, the JMicron BIOS actually recognized my existing RAID 0 array.  I had set the bios option to "RAID" and the subsequent JMicron boot screen listed both drives as "RAID Inside".
However, I wasn't initially sure which BIOS options referenced which IDE controllers.  Turns out, the NVidia controller (primary port) is in the sub-menu and only has options for IDE and RAID.  The JMicron controller (secondary port) is in the top menu and has options for IDE, RAID, *and* AHCI.  This misled me into thinking the BIOS options were reversed, that the top menu referenced NVidia primary controller and the submenu referenced JMicron secondary.  At least, that's how it was done on the 975X.  So, in a brilliant decision, I changed the RAID option on JMicron controller to AHCI (because that's how the Intel controller on my 975X was configured and how I thought WinXP would expect to see the primary boot drive).
On subsequent boot, JMicron screen now showed PATA drives as "Non-RAID".  So, my array was lost, but luckily I only kept expendable files on RAID.  But now I'm not able to rebuild a new array.  Resetting the BIOS option to RAID mode and entering the JMicron configuration will display both drives in Non-RAID config.  But if I try to create a new array, it says "no enough drive available".  If I try to revert drives to Non-RAID or delete a RAID array, it says all drives are already Non-RAID and there are no existing arrays to delete.
So I'm lost.  I've seen posts in some msg forums claiming JMicron can only support RAID on SATA drives.  But the JMB363 only has eSATA ports.  And I can't imagine only supporting external devices for RAID?? That and I know from personal experience that JMB361 was able to put PATA drives into RAID, and that the JMB363 recognized my old array initially (before I foolishly ruined the config).
Any ideas how I can create a new RAID 0 w/ 2xPATA on the P7N Diamond?  Has anyone else attempted this?
    Things I've tried:
    1)  Deleting partitions on PATA drives and leaving empty;
    2)  Deleting partitions on PATA drives and creating new;
    3)  Resetting BIOS option for JMicron to IDE and repeating steps 1 and 2 above
    3)  Resetting BIOS option for JMicron to AHCI and repeating steps 1 and 2 above
    3)  Resetting BIOS option for JMicron to RAID and repeating steps 1 and 2 above
    Want to try next:
    1)  Remove PATA drives from current sys and lowlevel format in a diff machine

(config is same as in sig except substitute P7N Diamond for 975X PUE)

Download the latest driver directly from JMicron (1.17.40.05):

  • P7N Diamond and multiple RAID

I'm looking to buy a new system and MSI's P7N Diamond looks like a good choice to me.
The specs says that the onboard nForce 570i SLI supports 6 SATA II ports in RAID 0, 1, 0+1, 5
Is there anyone who knows if its possible to have multiple RAIDs configed on that controller?
I'm thinking 2x WD Raptor 36GB in one RAID 0 for the system and 2x WD 1TB in one RAID 0 for data.
Is it possible to have both RAID-disks and non RAID-disks (single disks) on the controller on the samr time?
    Many questions...
    Most gratefull for any help!
    Best Regards!
    /Pär

"Is there anyone who knows if its possible to have multiple RAIDs configed on that controller?"
Yes should be fine, just create 2 independent arrays.
"Is it possible to have both RAID-disks and non RAID-disks (single disks) on the controller on the samr time?"
If you want to use the same Sata ports for single disk(s), you will need to disable RAID from BIOS for those Sata channels where are connected your HDD's which will be used as single drive.
    Example you may have:
    SATA1  WD Raptor 36GB |
    SATA2  WD Raptor 36GB | both 2x WD Raptor 36GB assigned in RAID0 (or 1)  --->  Array 1
    SATA3  WD 1TB |
    SATA4  WD 1TB |  both 2xWD 1TB assigned in RAID0 (or 1) ---> Array 2
SATA5  Some other SATA HDD as single drive (RAID for SATA5 should be disabled in BIOS)
SATA6  Some other SATA HDD as single drive (RAID for SATA6 should be disabled in BIOS)

  • Accessing Variant config characterisctics during CONDITION BASE formula

    Hi,
I would like to access the characteristics values for a variant config during the SD pricing in the order. Since I don't have the batch at that point, how to I read from the variant itself? The document may not even be saved at that point yet.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks
    Leonardo

    Hi Leonardo,
You can use reference characteristic to read data from the database table. To do pricing per the values of characteristic you can write object dependencies to set values in pricing. Note 935885 has information reference characteristics you can use. Please review help,sap.com for more information on how these can be set. If you give me an exact example for your requirement , I can guide you with the steps you can use.

I forgot my passcode, so I was unable to access my phone. I then tried to restore it, but it has frozen during the process. It won't connect to my mac again and I can't stop the process because my lock button is broken. What do I do?

My first advice is "Back up the device, then have it replaced."  Second item of advice, "Don't forget your passcode."
One of the purposes of the lock button is to recover from certain software failures.  Without the lock button, such a recovery is nearly impossible.  My advice would have served you best when the malfuction first developed, not after you forgot your passcode.

  • Problems w/ on-board NVidia RAID + PCI RAID on P7N Diamond

    Here's the setup and issue.
I'm booting off of the on-board NVidia RAID on my P7N Diamond.  It's RAID5 w/ 4 WD 640GB drives.  Works fine.
I've recently pulled a NetCell SyncRAID SR5000 PCI RAID card (runs an adapted RAID3) from an old system where it worked fine and was NOT the boot drive...just storage.  Plugged it in the one and only PCI slot on my P7N Diamond.  Once it's in, the system will no longer boot.
When the PCI RAID card is not installed, the mobo's BIOS boot menu shows "NVIDIA RAID5 1".  As soon as I install the PCI RAID card, the NVidia RAID disappears (no longer an option at all) and is replaced by "IDE:Revolution".  At that point the system cannot find any bootable source and fails.
I also get an error message "Not Enough Space to Copy PCI Option ROM".
Unfortunately, MSI's tech support is passing the buck on this one.  They're saying:
Then sound like the card and the board sata controller are not compatible. If the card is connected it disable the onboard SATA controller. Once the card install the port is enable again. please check with the card manufacture. thanks
I really find this annoying as the card works just fine in other systems.  It's having an issue WITH THIS MOTHERBOARD, but they tell me to go to the card manufacturer.  The real problem is NetCell went out of business a few years ago, so they're not available to go to.
So, the quick and dirty is the manufacture of the only motherboard I've had a problem with concerning this card won't help, and the card manufacture cannot be reached.  I'm hoping someone here may come up with a workaround.
I'm trying to consolidate down to 1 computer, and I specifically purchased a case and power supply with this RAID migration in mind.  I'm gunna be PISSED if I can't use a RAID array I spent close to a grand for (a couple years ago)!

MSI continues to blame the chipset or PCI card for the incompatibility (not the motherboard), saying there's nothing they can do.
Does ANYONE have an idea other than setting aside my RAID array?

  • P7N Diamond RAID

    I have a P7N Diamond which is running Vista64 on a single 750GB Samsung F1 harddrive.
I want to buy another identical drive and run them in RAID 0.
What is the simplest way to migrate my current installation to RAID?
Will I need a third drive?

    Conor,
You dont need a third drive for Raid 0..2 is sufficient.  You may want a third drive as a "backup" drive running in Sata mode, thats what I use.  For Raid 0 you will need two identical drives, and you will need to format the drives and then load the OS to them.  (A backup image will need to be loaded onto the Raid array if you want to clone your original setup.)  Once the OS is loaded to the Raid array, you need to get into disc management and activate the array, and then you're off and running.

You may be one of the ones like me and a few others that can only run this board stable with overclocking the cpu to 3ghz. That should be easy to do even on air, but keep an eye on it. I was unable to get viper, g.skill or patriot memory to run at 1066 with my board, at least so far, so you may have better luck than I. Except for getting your memory to work at 1066, I can almost promise that this will work for you. I also had the problem with the jmicron drivers and do not use them now.
Word of warning, too much playing around with this can lead to OS corruption, so be easy.

  • Can't boot from USB on P7N Diamond

I have BIOS Ver. 1.3 installed on my P7N Diamond board. I used the flashing utility from MSI to install it. Now, to install Ver 1.4, I am using the Forum Flasher. My board will not recognize the USB drive in the F11 Boot Menu or in the BIOS boot selection option. It does show up as USB storage after the memory check along with a USB mouse.I made sure that all USB options in the BIOS were set. I let the Forum Flasher fix my drives to make sure that was done right. The last stick I tried was brand new, never used.
I am running RAID 0+1 on SATA 1 thu 4, SATA 5 + 6 are DVD drives, nothing on the 2 eSATA ports.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

The only time the USB storage appears is during POST. In the BIOS the 4 hard drives used for the RAID are listed, the 2 DVD drives are listed, but no USB storage. In the F11 boot selection it offers the 1st floppy, NVRAID and the 2 DVD drives. The same are offered the boot sequence section of the BIOS options.
