P7N Diamond with GTX260 SLI?

Is this combination going to work? I saw on couple of forums that some boards that were SLI-ready didn't work with two GeForce GTX260 cards, so I'm trying to find one that does for sure. My new rig will be like this:
CPU: Inter Core 2 Quad Q9550
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX260 (and will buy another one soon)
RAM: OCZ 2x2Gb DDR2 1066Mhz Platinum Kit (will add another 4bg later, I think 4 is enough at the moment)
HDD: WD 1Tb 7200 + WD160Gb for OS's (Vista Premium 64bit and Fedora Linux)
PSU: Probably ThermalTake Thoughpower 1000W
OS: Vista Premium 64bit
and I will put it all in ThermalTake SopranoFX full tower. Now only thing I need is a board, so I was hoping that someone can help me pick one. Thank you in advance

I don't see why it wouldn't work. Could you give us some samples of the reports saying that GTX 280 SLI doesn't work?

  • New Need Sink needed for MSI P7N Diamond nForce 780i SLi (Socket 775)

    Hi Guys,
I've been having a problem with my machine where it will be working away as and then suddenly restart. I haven't been able to pin point the problem as it can happen regardless of applications or load thats on the machine. I've also run a couple of app's to check the RAM and its fine. The only thing I've been noticing is that the 4 cores of my Q6600 seem to be running a bit hot. On average on Idle there running between 45-55oc. Does this seem normal? I'm thinking that the cpu might be over heating when I'm running apps. I've seen one of the cores up around 68oc when under a bit of load. I'm using the stock heat sink at the moment and would like to cool things down it see if that helps. Can anyone recommend something suitable for my motherbroad.
    Thanks

Thermaltake ToughPower 750W Modular Power Supply
My Q6600 (also G0/SLACR but don't know what you mean by "Pro") is OC'd to 3.4GHz and has had no problems running stable.  Highest temps during OCCT/Linpack and LinX/Linpack peak at 80C 1st/2nd cores - 76 C 3rd/4th cores.  Other tests (e.g. Prime95 small FFTs) run much cooler.  I've run 2hr+ linpack tests with no errors, so I don't think you need to worry about your temps yet.
However, may I suggest that you check into is your power supply, in particular the modular connections.  I had the ToughPower 750W Modular before upgrading to PCP&C.  I noticed that the ToughPower's modular connections had a tendency to be just a tad loose.  They wouldn't dislodge but they had a little bit of play.  I could jiggle them ever so slightly while they were connected.  As a result, the CPU power cable (8-pin/4-pin) would cause a restart upon the slightest disturbance or sensation.  I've since discovered that modular connectors also affect the efficiency, power noise levels, and overall performance of a PSU.  All in all, I plan to avoid modular connectors entirely going forward.  Many newer cases have excellent cable management features and even old-style cases can be cleaned up with a little planning and effort.  So the modular cabling advantages don't offset the severe disadvantages.  Even if your problem isn't due to the PSU, it's something I'd recommend considering replacing.
Good luck.  Hope all the suggestions are able to help you nail down and resolve your issue.

  • P7N Diamond & 9600 GT SLI

    Hi,
Small question.. Does the P7N Diamond support two 9600 GT (asus) in SLI mode?
Probably does, but could I get a confirmation on this, because in the manual of the P7N, dual cards in SLI are connected with 2 SLI bridges..and the 9600 GT only has room for one bridge....
    Thanks in advance!

    Thanks for the quick reply!

  • P7N Diamond with 2x4GB?

I've been reading around and still not 100% on this so thought I would double check with the experts  I would like to upgrade my PC memory from 2GB (one stick) and replace that stick with 4x2GB sticks (DDR2 PC2-8500 1066MHz). Does the P7N Diamond support this much ram at 1066MHz or does it have to be PC2-6400 800MHz? Would it be compatible with my Quad Core chip?
    My system specs are:
    Q6600 CPU
    2GB DDR2 PC2-8500 RAM (One stick)
    MSI P7N Diamond Mobo
    NVidia 9600GT GFX Card
    500W 'nice' PSU
    2x1TB HDD
    Vista Ultimate SP1
Any thoughts would be great. Thanks

Actualy, after reading the following link I realized that 8 GB ram is pointless! http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/memory-module-upgrade,review-31549.html
So instead i am going to just order 2x2GB PC2-8500. The P7N Diamond should be fine with this I assume? No known issues?
    Will probaly buy this: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-149-OC

  • OC on a P7N Diamond with a Q6600

    I have:
Intel Core 2 Duo Quad Q6600
    P7N Diamond
    Roseweii 850W PSU
    NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GTX
    OCZ 4GB DDR2 800MHz (PC2-8500)
    Windows Vista 32-bit
Been having trouble with system stability, computer restarting 10min to 3 hours into gameplay, and discovered a lot of other people with the same CPU and MB as I do with the same problem until they OC the CPU to 3.0 MHz.  Question is how do I OC the CPU to 3.0 GHz?  I get the FSB to 1150 MHz but any higher and the computer powers up like normal but the monitor remains in sleep mode as if the video card has gone out and I have to yank the CMOS battery to get a screen to come back up.  Are there other settings I am missing to push the OC up to around 1333 MHz (about the speed for 3.0 GHz)?

Well i dropped the multiplier to 6 and went for 400fsb but it wouldnt do it even at 1.4 on the nb
after a few dozen combinations i managed to get it 10 round ibt stable at 412fsb with fsb term on 1.210 and gtl down 1 notch (hit minus button once from auto - 0.7something) and nb at 1.425
CPU volts didnt factor as it was running below stock speeds
i tried lowering the nb volts to 1.4 but it failed ibt so seems those settings are it if i want 412 fsb
*sigh* doesnt look like these 780i mobos will ever reach 450 fsb :(

  • P7N Diamond 750 in SLI mean NO PCI slot free?

    Hi there,
i'm going to order that mobo soon cause seems a very intresting compromise for OC,peformance and SLI.
    Correct me if i'm wrong:
To use SLI video cards i have to use the 2 light blue PCI EXPRESS slots, but considering the MOBO layout, THTAT MEANS NO STANDARD PCI SLOT FREE???
because watching the layout and the space from PCIE light blue slots and standard PCI slot, seems that no peripheals can be installed with 2 SLI card installed.
Hope i'm worng, but i'm looking for anyone who can confirm or deny this

"To use SLI video cards i have to use the 2 light blue PCI EXPRESS slots, but considering the MOBO layout, THTAT MEANS NO STANDARD PCI SLOT FREE???"
You can use 1st Blue PCI-E and 3th white PCI-E to SLI 2 VGA's. Use the longer SLI connector. By this way standard PCI will be free and can be used as well, when you have double slot graphics cards installed.
/* It has been tested and worked great without performance lost or whatever */

Also check to make sure your power supply is certified to support 3-way SLI with 8800 GTX cards.  I have a CoolerMaster Real Power Pro 1000 and it is not certified for 3-way with 8800 GTX cards.  It IS certified for 3-Way with the 9800 GTX cards.  The 8800 series apparently draws a bit more power.
Check the SLI-certified power supplies here: http://www.slizone.com/object/slizone_build_psu.html
i thou the PSU listed at Slizone is just a guideline? Oh men. Can't imagine i spend so much on the enermax psu and in the end i doesn't have enough juice for 3 cards.

  • P7N Diamond 9800GX2 Quad SLI additional GPU problem, pls help!

    Hi all,
So I have an interesting dilemma:
I'm running my system with dual watercooled 9800gx2's in Quad SLI (both in blue pciex16 2.0 slots).
The issue is that I cannot install an additional GPU in the white or yellow slots for my touchscreen monitor/additional output.
What happens exactly is that the screen doesn't turn on (in any dvi or hdmi output)/pc doesn't boot up (the output led on the primary gx2 doesn't turn blue as it should).
I'm running the latest nonbeta release bios. I unplug, clear all power, reset cmos, reset all cards, check plugs, etc. when installing the third card.
I've tried both a 8800gt, and a radeon 2400xt I had laying around. I've tried with the gx2's in quad sli, not in quad sli, and not in sli at all (meaning one gx2 became two cards) with the same effect. The 8800gt will only work when one gx2 is installed.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

If you are trying to get 2 x GX2 + 1 x 8800GT or R2400XT, I'm not sure if it is actually capable in terms of SLI.
Don't quote me if I'm wrong, however, in my point of view, GX2 = SLi with 2 Cores back to back, so having 2 GX2s will means Quad SLi already, which is already the maximum of SLi capability. As such, I do not think that you can add 1 more card to run in parallel to the GX2s since SLI is already being maxed out.
I think you should consult nVidia on this as well.

  • P7n diamond with q6600

Ok guys, I have an opportunity to get this board for $160 from a buddy of mind. I recently had a q6600 with a 1.3125 vid on a Gigabyte p35-ds3l board that I was able to clock to 3.6ghz stable.
I recently just picked up another q6600 with a 1.2125 vid
A couple of questions for you...
    1) Will Crucial Ballistix work on this board?
    2) Are there any significant modifications I will need to do to this board to keep the northbridge cool?
    3) Are there any common "fsb holes" in this board?
    4) Have any of you clocked  your quad to 3.6 stable ( I will be using a ultra 120 extreme with ultra kaze fan)
Thanks in advance... I can pick up the board this afternoon if I want, but I'm just wondering how successfull people have clocked the q6600

3 Way SLI Connector Model 401-MB-0023-01
Hi there recently i received a package from your company with an motherboard MSI P7N
Diamond, nForce-780i SLI, i suddenly understood that there were not any kind of
3 Way SLI Connector! Therefore i am now asking how come there are none of this inside
your package and if i want to order a part! Where do i get it from? I asked EVGA they said
that they were chipping theirs sli bridges with their motherboard and said that is also what
your company do as well! So i ask you again how come there is no 3- way sli connector in
my package! Reason for this high priority is since i have 3 GTX 280 sli and i can't run 3
-way without this 3- way sli connector!
I live in Norway and i have been struggling with finding people who might be able to solve this problem for me!
So i would appreciate you and the company too have a look at this case and let me know if
its possible to get one from you! Without any money cost! And if it is possible to get one but
it will charge then, how much? Best regards From Halvor bø

Your board should have come with three SLI cables. Two short & one long to comprise the 3-way SLI bridge cables. Installation & full description can be found on pages 2-22 & 2-23 of your owners manual.

  • Users running the P7N Diamond and QX9650 please weigh in. I need help...

OK, I'll start from the beginning.  I had an EVGA 780i mobo, which ran a Q6600 at 3ghz quite easily.  Well, I decided that I had money to burn so I ordered a QX9650.  It would not work on the EVGA, the cpu voltage and cpu fsb voltage would not adjust no matter what I tried.  So, I popped the cpu into my kids rig, which has a DFI X38 mb and the cpu worked perfectly, voltages adjusted, multiplier adjusted, etc.  During the RMA process to EVGA, I got an MSI P7N Diamond to run SLI with.  Stuck the cpu in it and away I went into Vista 64, all happy.  I had to bump the memory voltage up to 1.95 volts, but that was it.  I then decided to raise the multi from 9 to 10.  I set it, warm booted and tested it in Vista.  100% stable.  2 days later, I attempted to turn my computer on.  No post.  I had to power off/on very quickly to get it to post, at which point I got an error message that the cpu vid had failed or there was a mismatch with the cpu to fsb ratio, hit F1 to enter setup or F2 to load defaults.  I e-mailed MSI and received beta P05 and it was just downhill from there.  I couldn't cold boot at all, stock settings, OC settings, voltages adjusted, it didn't matter.  So back to the shipping bios.  I got a new beta this morning, dated 2/18, and it was the exact same.
    Issues with both beta's:
    1.  Cannot cold boot.
    2.  Logitech G15 acts erratically prior to entering Vista.
    Things I have tried:
    1.  Raising Vcore.
    2.  Raising NB/SB voltages.
    2.  Raising FSB Terminator voltage.
Nothing helps.  MSI simply told me not to OC and run at stock and that there was no problem.  Is there anyone else out there that has this cpu and mb?  If so, can you post your experience with it and let me know if there is something I am doing wrong or could try?

Below is the actual transcript that I had with MSI on this issue.  As far as they are concerned, I don't need to change the multiplier on my QX9650.  (Start reading from the bottom up for the actual order of the conversation)
    Quote
MSI Tech. 02/19/2008 Then, there is no problem with the mb.
End User 02/19/2008 There doesn't seem to be any issues with usb while on using the shipping bios, I only see it when I flash to the beta bios'.
MSI Tech. 02/19/2008 If the stock bios also has the usb issue then try: Have all USB device connected to the rear USB ports that are build onto the mb and retest with all USB header on the mb be removed from any front USB connections or adapter connections and retest. If all steps have been tried and problem still persists then please kindly refer to our website for manufacturer warranty RMA info/request: http://www.msicomputer.com/support/CustomerS.asp
End User 02/19/2008 No change. I cannot even cold-boot at stock settings with this. Also, it still kills my Logitech G15 keyboard randomly. i have to unplug it and plug it back in to get it to power up, and that is only after I boot into Vista. Back on the shipping bios for now at stock settings. Please, if you would, keep me informed of changes or progress. Thanks.
End User 02/19/2008 Thanks! I will poat back if it helps or not.
MSI Tech. 02/19/2008 Beta bios v111 attached to this form.
End User 02/19/2008 Is there any other beta bios' that you have that could help? The P05 didn't work out so well, maybe you have a newer one that I could try? It seems odd that it is only on a cold boot that I have issues and not on warm boots. I am willing to try anything you got at this point!
MSI Tech. 02/19/2008 Sorry, but MSI did not see any issue with using QX9650 processor.
End User 02/19/2008 So are you saying that as far as MSI is concerned, there is no issue with the QX9650 and the P7N Diamond motherboard? I am not asking you for advice on hot to OC it, I am asking you if you know of the issue and are looking into it to try and correct it. If you do not think there is an issue and are not going to investigate it, then I will be very disappointed.
MSI Tech. 02/19/2008 If there is no problem with standard bios and no OC then you can refer to other website/forum for OC suggestions or settings. MSI does not provide these setting/suggestions since it can cause damage to the components.
End User 02/19/2008 Also, I am unable to use the Dual Core center, as I am running Vista 64. It does not load properly when using this OS.
End User 02/19/2008 As of now, it boots and runs fine with the shipping bios and no OC. But, why would I have paid such a high premium to get a QX9650, that has an unlocked multiplier, if I cannot use it? Is this strictly an issue with the newer 45nm Intel processors or is it something else? If not being able to use my cpu's unlocked multiplier is "ok", then I may return the board for a refund.
MSI Tech. 02/18/2008 What is the problem when system uses the standard bios and not OC?
End User 02/18/2008 Is there a fix on the way or is it just a problem with my hardware? I have it back on the shipping bios and it is at least cold-booting now, as well as my G15 is working. I upped the NB voltage a hair above auto, maybe this has somethinng to do with it?
MSI Tech. 02/18/2008 Use the standard bios and use software to OC: http://global.msi.com.tw/index.php?func=downloaddetail&type=utility&maincat_no=1&prod_no=1372
End User 02/18/2008 I was way too quick to say everything is OK. I now have cold boot issues aplenty. 9 times out of 10 it will not post on a cold boot, but will warm boot. I have to power off then on real quickly to get it to post at stock speeds. Also, my Logitech G15 started to act erratic with the P05 beta. I am back on the shipping bios until I hear from you.
End User 02/18/2008 Thanks you for the beta. I flashed to it, cleared the cmos and set everything back up and now I have a new problem. Even though I have disabled the EIST function in the bios, it still seems to be on. i am using cpu-z version 1.44.1 to monitor the multiplier and it randomly shifts between whatever I set it to and 6. It is even doing it when the system is loaded, ie playing games. Please, help!
MSI Tech. 02/18/2008 Beta bios attached to this form.
End User 02/18/2008 Everything is stable 100%. But, on my QX9650, I set the multiplier to 10X to run at 10x333=3.33ghz. It was fine until this morning. I turned the computer on and it would not post. I powered down and repowered it up and it siad the cpu vid had failed or errored, hit F1 to enter setup or F2 to load defaults. I entered setup and the multiplier was set back to 9x. I left it there and am ok now. Is there a beta bios that helps out operations with the newest Intel 45nm processors, such as the QX9650?
I have absolutely no issues in Vista itself, it is 100% stable.  It is only on a cold boot that I have serious issues.  And yes, I got 3 in a row, went to work for a few hours, then came home and bam!  No cold boot.  Also, I don't know how comfortable I am raising the vcore that much, as 1.21-1.25 is the normal operating range.  1.3625 is aweful high.  Now, with the 65nm quads, that is more in the range of what would be needed, but no way should it be necessary to pushh this QX9650 to a meeger 3.33ghz.  As far as temps go, I have the processor watercooled, so no worries there.  I am away from home now until Saturday morning, so I can't test anything until the weekend.
    Thanks alot for the responses!

This is from awhile ago, but may have some ideas & settings that may be of use for you. The OC seemed to work better with a 1:1 ratio. Ram speed of 825 - FSB of 1650 in my case. It would not run stable at RAM speed 1066. 412.5 would net about 3.506 or so for you. Hope this helps.
thanks for the help, I think is the problem, the memory's, I will test and see how it
